Arrecife, the sun-drenched capital of Lanzarote, offers a drinking and dining scene that often surprises first-time visitors. While the island is famous for its volcanic landscapes and coastal resorts, the city itself has quietly cultivated a vibrant nightlife culture.
Unlike the purpose-built tourist hubs further south, Arrecife feels authentically Canarian. Here, you are just as likely to be sipping a local wine next to a lifelong resident as you are a traveler who wandered off the beaten path.
The geography of the city plays a significant role in its bar culture. Centered around the Charco de San Ginés, a sheltered lagoon, the best venues often come with a view of bobbing fishing boats and historic bridges.
From traditional taverns serving papas arrugadas to sleek cocktail lounges mixing innovative vermouths, the variety is impressive. The compact nature of the city center means you can easily explore several distinct neighborhoods on foot in a single evening.
The local drinking culture leans toward the relaxed and social. You will rarely find a strict dress code, and the atmosphere remains welcoming, focusing on good conversation and quality beverages rather than loud music.
Whether you are looking for a strong morning coffee with a splash of something extra, a craft beer, or a glass of the island’s volcanic Malvasía wine, Arrecife has a corner for you. The key is knowing which streets to wander down.
To help you navigate the capital like a local, we have curated a list of the essential stops. These venues have been selected for their consistency, atmosphere, and dedication to quality, ensuring you experience the true spirit of Lanzarote.

We had a lovely lunch here today. We were served by Marti who was polite and helpful. When we arrived (1230 on a Thursday) it was quite busy, so service was a little slow, but really not a problem when you're sat somewhere with such nice views. Food was delicious and the prices reasonable for such a restaurant.

Very beautiful place, I had my first date with my husband there in this magical place. We are always returning. But i need to say that is really needed to changing and adding some new foods amd meals to the options. Is already 1 year the same options. If you put inovation in this will be very great and again magical everyday we return back!

We had an amazing experience at this restaurant! The food was excellent, the service was outstanding, and the view was absolutely stunning. Even though it was the weekend, the queue was short and we were seated very quickly. We were given the best table, which made everything even more special
A special thanks to our waiter Marti – he was incredible and made our visit even better. We also really appreciated that they took great photos of us!
We are giving this place five stars and highly recommend it to everyone visiting Spain

So, this place is well worth the visit. I’ve been many times and although it is a little pricier than other restaurants in the island, the aura and views are some of if not the best in the island. The food is not amazing but it’s not terrible either, the steak is good, the mojo is good. The desserts are fantastic and what stand out on the menu to me, the fruit ceviche is to die for and it is a must try item on the menu. I’ve never had anything like it and it’s a bursts of different flavors that mend so so well. The ambience is great, the service is pretty good, professional. Sometimes you get a not to attentive waiter that forgets to bring you things that you ask for but that’s no reason not to go, most of them are nice and kind. I go here for coffees and just to enjoy the views. For a steak / fries and coffee it comes out 23 euros. Well worth it.

Really good smoothies and view. We visited on 13.6.2026. The lady who served us was really nice, she gave us peanuts for free. The service was quick and excelent. It wasnt expensive at all. For a smoothie we paid 6 euros. And we were the only one in the restaurant.

A charming and welcoming place, the waitress's service was a 10/10, super attentive. We honestly didn't know what to order and she recommended some fantastic options. Her lemonades and iced teas were so delicious that we took her advice and tried some amazing cocktails. We will definitely be back more often.

Some of the best cocktails on the island!!! The atmosphere and service are fantastic, and the prices are super reasonable too. I was personally won over by the iced coffee—it was delicious!!! I visit every time I'm at the mall; highly recommended.

A terrace specializing in cocktails, with a varied menu including non-alcoholic options. Liena served us, she was fantastic, preparing a specialty from the menu and another one upon request.

Waited 40 minutes for food. Asked what’s going on. Then told it’s a mistake and they have nothing left that we ordered. Didn’t care. No apology. We left without eating. Disgustingly rude arrogant staff. AVOID THIS PLACE.

Ahh what a shame but the paella wasn’t right at all. The cocktails were nice and strong. We made a quick decision to have paella instead of having a look around and doing our research first. Unfortunately it wasn’t great, we asked for mixed but there wasn’t any seafood, just meat cubes like the frozen ones. It was soggy, not dry rice like it’s supposed to be.

The warmest of welcomes and the coolest of little tapas places.
Every bite and every sip has been considered carefully by the wonderful owners.
Music choice is superb.

Finding this local place on my last night visiting the great city of Arrecife was a true pleasure. The people running this small wine and tapas bar are enough reason to come down for an evening of cozy dining out. Always friendly and helpful with great passion and knowledge of their products. All wines are local Canarian ones so a good opportunity for discovery. The tapas might look quite classical, but nonetheless they tasted fantastic! Out of this world really. I would recommend to visit this cozy bar first. You might be tempted to visit a second time during your stay

Katu is a great wine and tapas bar with very welcoming hosts who clearly take pride in their quality business. Unfortunately we'd been drinking beer so it didn't make sense to drink wine but the choices of wines including many Canarian producers, looked mighty impressive. We'd love to go back and taste a few, along with the gorgeous looking tapas. Thank you for welcoming us guys 🥂🙂

Me and my partner visited 3 times during our 6 night stay in Arrecife. The couple running the bar are charismatic, friendly and can't do enough for their guests. The menu for both the food and drink is well thought out, as is the art, music and decor. Easily our favourite place on the island.

Katu Taberna was most definitely a highlight of our trip and as such we visited multiple times. Everything from the warm welcome and attentive service to the drinks and the food were exceptional! The pair that run the place are clearly passionate about what they do and their hard work shows.

Good place for a glass of wine or a beer and some tapas. Friendly staff! If you get some red wine, make sure to complement it with a plate of "Iberico dried meat tastine". Good combo! Its worth the short walk

We have been coming to Arrecife now for about Seven years staying across the road from this place, but have never been here for food or drinks. How silly are we? We walked past last night and decided ‘ why not?’ We had the best meal and the most attentive service we have enjoyed for a long time. We did rather over do the wine, which was delicious and local and the tapas were to die for. We will be back soon, I think! Well done.

La Tasca La Rasca – Quick Tapas Spot
La Tasca La Rasca is a great place for tapas when you want something fast and good. The service is very quick. We only ordered croquetas (pork and beef), one Estrella de Galicia beer, and a Coca-Cola. Everything was good and tasty.
It’s a nice place to relax and take a short break. The only thing missing was a little background music to make the atmosphere even better.
Overall: Simple, fast, and good quality. We recommend it for a quick stop.

Day 2 in Lanzarote and I can confidently say that we had the best food so far. Frankly I picked this place quickly, because it looked well place in comparison to where we wanted to head. It was one of the few places open and probably the most buzzing. We arrived and were given a table, our waitress, Nadia brought us menu and was very helpful when we asked her for recommendations; we got the house salad (BANG!), squid ink croquetas, tartare y pan con tomate. Everything was perfect so, so tasty I wish their menu could give a better idea of how Delish the food is. And Nadia, she was absolutely FAB! Gracias !

Lovely meal tonight. Just dropped in and ordered the three specials off the board. Tuna tomato salad, blood sausage (black pudding) tortilla and fried anchovies (whitebait). All great.
Q G★★★☆☆
I must say my experience at Taca La Raspa in Arrecife was, unfortunately, quite disappointing—largely due to the service, but also because the food failed to impress.
From the moment we arrived, the interaction with our server—who I believe may have been Eastern European and had brightly colored hair—felt uncomfortable. She insisted that we order drinks first and wait for them to arrive before allowing us to place our food order, even though we already knew exactly what we wanted to eat. It came across as unnecessarily rigid and unwelcoming, setting a poor tone for the meal.
As for the food, it was underwhelming. We tried the fried fish, which was passable, and tuna tacos that were noticeably dry. The papas arrugadas lacked the usual tenderness and flavor one expects from this Canarian classic, and the mojo sauce served alongside was perhaps the least enjoyable I’ve ever had—bland and lacking the characteristic punch. The grilled cheese arrived drenched in too many competing sauces, overpowering what should have been a simple, flavorful dish.
The redeeming element of the meal was the wine—a Vulcano seco, crisp and refreshing, which helped elevate an otherwise average culinary experience. However, at €73 for two people, the value for money was simply not there.
In summary, while the restaurant has a nice location and potential, I found both the service dynamics and the execution of the food disappointing. I would suggest improvements in staff hospitality and more careful attention to the balance and authenticity of flavors.

Relaxed atmosphere, great food. We had a few small dishes, all of which I’d recommend highly:

We walked up with no reservation and were greeted warmly and seated right away.
Our waiter spoke excellent english and was very friendly. Prices also reasonable, bellies full for under €40.
Couldn’t recommend more!

This place doesn’t look like much from the outside, and yet I’m really glad I ate there. If my hotel had been in Arrecife, I would have come back several times.
Everything was flavorful and well cooked — I definitely recommend it.

I stumbled on this place whilst killing time in Arrecife waiting for my flight home. It looked different to the other touristy restaurants that I'd seen so decided to have lunch there. The staff were really welcoming and recommended the 'local fish', Canterero. I'm really glad I went with their recommendation, it was sensational! The service was faultless and the food sublime. Please do try this place if you're in Arrecife!

Having read about the great food experience decided to try the place out for a lunchtime snack.
Not disappointed and will be back tomorrow.
Located away from the main bars around the old harbour it is where the locals go and apart from two others all Spanish and busy even at 2:00pm.
House white wine a very quaffable Rioja.
Scallops were superb and the fresh bread very tasty.
One of the better secrets in Arriceffe old town.

If you really enjoy a local Spanish/Colombian cuisine, then I would highly encourage you, portion are huge and the variety of the dishes is amazing as well, cod croquettes €6 😋

I ordered by clearly pointing at a photo on the menu, but only anchovies were served instead of the dish shown.
When paying in cash, I should have received €3.50 in change, but I was given a handful of 20cent coins that later turned out to be incorrect and misleading.
Ordering mistakes due to language barriers are understandable. Dishonest handling of money is not.
Very Disappointing Experience.

Food is great when offered; we (married couple) took staff recommendations fir tapas, and it was all good. We can't comment on sweets or puddings as we were not offered any, at all! Staff just ignored us after the main courses. We had to ask for the bill, then left quickly. We won't be returning.

Such good quality spanish fusion in Arrecife. Amazing service and food. Highly recommend the sweet potatoes with kimchi mayo and meatballs! Charcuterie board also had a good selection of cured meats that were smoky and flavourful but not too salty. Also wallet friendly, all the food added up to €34 as seen. Really worth it in our opinion. Special mention: butter is President butter!!

Tips for Enjoying Arrecife’s Bar Scene
Navigating the nightlife in Arrecife requires a slightly different approach than in the larger Canarian resorts. To make the most of your time and blend in with the local rhythm, it helps to understand a few unwritten rules and practical logistics regarding how, when, and what to drink.
1. Embrace the Late Schedule
Spanish time applies here, though perhaps slightly tempered by the island lifestyle. Do not expect bars to be buzzing before 9:00 PM. Locals often start with a quiet drink around 8:00 PM, with the atmosphere peaking between 10:30 PM and midnight. Arrive too early, and you may find yourself alone with the staff setting up.
2. Order the Local Wine
Lanzarote produces some of the most unique wines in the world due to its volcanic ash soil. Skip the generic Rioja and ask for a "Malvasía Volcánica" or a red from the La Geria region. It is usually priced reasonably by the glass and offers a taste of the island’s terroir that you cannot get elsewhere.
3. Don’t Skip the "Tapa"
Many traditional bars in Arrecife still uphold the custom of serving a small complimentary snack with your drink. However, this is not universal. If you are feeling hungry, look for bars advertising "tostas" or "raciones." Sharing small plates is the best way to sample local seafood and cheeses while bar hopping.
4. Carry Cash for Smaller Venues
While larger cocktail bars and modern breweries will happily accept credit cards, some of the older, more traditional taverns in the backstreets operate on a cash-only basis. Keep a €20 note in your pocket to avoid missing out on a hidden gem simply because you cannot pay with your phone.
5. Explore Beyond the Lagoon
The Charco de San Ginés is beautiful, but the surrounding streets, particularly Calle Liebre and the area near the Castillo de San Gabriel, hide some of the best local spots. Walk a few blocks inland to find bars with lower prices and a higher concentration of local residents.
The beauty of Arrecife’s bar scene lies in its lack of pretense. It is a city that invites you to slow down, look out at the Atlantic, and appreciate the craftsmanship in your glass. By venturing away from the main tourist promenades and into the narrow, salty streets, you unlock a side of Lanzarote that feels deeply personal and memorable.
As the night winds down and the lights reflect off the water of the Charco, you will understand why the capital is the beating heart of the island’s social life. It is not just about the alcohol; it is about the atmosphere, the history, and the people you meet along the way.
