12 Best Bakeries Near Casa Vicens Gaudí

Gaudí’s architectural universe in Barcelona extends far beyond the Sagrada Família, and Casa Vicens stands as one of his most vibrant early masterpieces. Tucked into the tranquil Gràcia neighborhood, this UNESCO World Heritage site draws design lovers, history enthusiasts, and curious travelers away from the city’s more crowded landmarks.

After wandering through the Moorish-inspired tilework and lush garden spaces of Casa Vicens, you will likely work up an appetite. Fortunately, the surrounding streets of Gràcia and nearby Sant Gervasi are a paradise for artisan baking and traditional Catalan pastries.

This area is not dominated by generic chain coffee shops. Instead, you will find family-run forns de pa (bread ovens), specialty croissant labs, and historic patisseries that have been perfecting their craft for generations.

Whether you are craving a flaky, butter-laden croissant, a traditional coca de vidre, or a crusty rustic loaf to enjoy in a nearby plaza, the options are exceptional. The local bakery culture here is deeply rooted in quality ingredients, slow fermentation, and a profound respect for tradition.

We have scouted the streets around Casa Vicens to curate a list of the most authentic and delicious bakeries within walking distance. This guide focuses on venues that deliver consistent quality, unique flavors, and a genuine sense of place.

To help you navigate the area like a local, we have balanced famous institutions with hidden gems that tourists often miss. Get ready to trade the tourist traps for the scent of toasted flour, caramelized sugar, and freshly pulled espresso.

Below, you will find our curated selection of the best spots to satisfy your carb cravings near this architectural icon.

My mouth will never be the same. I walked all over Gracia, buying baked goods from all sorts of shops. And nothing compared to the goodness being baked at Flor de Gracia. The croissant is crunchy, flaky, buttery, light, rich and decadent in all the right ways. The dough is prepped onsite and they bake throughout the day ensuring the buds on your tastes are greeted with warmth and freshness. The price is also right #bobbarker. Croissants are 1.50 Euro, the massive and creative rollos are around 3.5 euro and cafe con leche is 2 euros. It’s takeout only so be prepared for that. My mouth will be sad to not experience this place for the foreseeable future. P.S. I’m sure this place is going to go viral with some trendy food tiktokers, so stop by before it gets muy famoso.

I wanted to come here for a while but every time I try, there was a huge line of people. Now i understand why hehe. I had a pizza and a “sugar brioche” (can’t remember the actual name) and they were pretty good, the pizza was big, chewy and airy, like a focaccia, with a good sauce, not over powering. The brioche was very light, fluffy and not too sweet, well balance with the sugar on top. I kinda regret not trying anything else but I wasn’t really hungry. Definitely i will back with an empty stomach. Btw the service was good, their recommendations were spot on. Very friendly staff.
Armel Paler★★★★★
Staff were accommodating and helpful during my visit. The bakery offers a good option of vegan. The pistachio bread came in generous portions and was good. Would recommend.
Laura Sondagh★★★★★
They really deserve 5 stars. One of the best pastry I’ve ever had, and I’ve tried a lot of rolls before, but these were genius!! On the picture you see; I had the pistachio caramelized roll and an oat matcha latte. I also recommend the vegan buns XD
travel photos j★★★★☆
The best cinnamon roll I’ve had in Barcelona! They have great coffee and delicious pastries. There’s only one bench outside to sit, as most things are for take-away, but the staff are super friendly and explain everything and different Languages. You can even see the baker making the pastries fresh. Keep in mind they only have one gluten free option, but they kindly recommended another bakery nearby.

Top spot for bread, a quick coffee and treats! Everything here is really, really good. Their breads are a masterclass in baking, and the chocolate cookie is easily one of the best around, good quality ingredients. Good coffee, too! Definitely worth a stop if you're looking for a tasty treat done right.
Julie Kuhrt★★★★★
These pastries were amazing! I was skeptical at first (as they are on the pricier side), but honestly they are worth it. You can tell they really put thought and care into the flavors they choose. And I’ll be dreaming about that rhubarb pastry. The focaccia is also super fluffy.
Beata Kanya★★★★★
Great service, amazing pastry! Light and fluffy, not too sweet at all. Loaded with fresh strawberries, and the hint of lemon was such a pleasant suprise! Definitely recommend!
Charlie Liu★★★★★
Vanilla roll is very good. The custard filling is satisfying and not too sweet. Bun could be more soft though.
Beth Hughes★★★★★
So nice I had it twice! The crème Catalan pastry was insanely good, I went back 2 days later for another one. Gooey custard and flakey buttery super fresh pastry. Honestly in the top 5 pastries of my life. Coffee was great too. Went to two locations both good.

One of the best bakeries in Barcelona. The sourdough is moist and tasty with an amazing crust. The pastries are all top notch. Highly recommended.

After a very disappointing experience at Sol de NIT, finding Oso Grizzly was the best thing that could have happened to our morning. From the moment we arrived, Bruno welcomed us with exceptional professionalism and genuine kindness, making us feel comfortable right away. The food was excellent, the pastries were absolutely delicious, and the overall atmosphere was warm and inviting. Great service can turn a meal into an experience, and Bruno truly made the difference. Highly recommended—Oso Grizzly is a place worth visiting.

Really yummy rolls! The owner was so kind and took the time to explain to me some of their most popular products: cinnamon roll, cardamon roll, and also the choco babka roll. So I had to get one of each lol. All of them are really delicious but my personal favorite was the choco babka! They're not overly sweet and the dough is really soft, it doesn't dry out (this is the main reason I'm writing this review 😂). This means the rolls keep well - even after a few hours they're still soft, or you could freeze them as well for later consumption and they'd reheat beautifully. Highly recommend them all. Way better than many other rolls in similar BCN bakeries imho 🤭
Mischa Lindenberg★★★★★
Delicious fresh baked pastries. We had the cinnamon and cardamom buns. The coffee beans are a nice smooth medium roast, perfect with the oat milk. They also have decaf, which is rare around here. Nicely situated on the lively square of Plaça del Sol to sit down 🌞. Love this place!
domihisis★★★★★
amazing place, the vegan focaccia is so tasty, the attention was first class and the place is cosy and welcoming. Prices are good, even cheap because the quality is outstanding. The sourdough’s is 100% recommended. The coffee and the matcha are spectacular, prepared by a smiley local girl. The owner bake everything daily. 10/10 Dog friendly.

We were passing by this wonderful bakery when travelling Barcelona. Impressed by the quality of breads and pastries and visited for a few times during our stay in the city. We love apple pies!!
Rosemary Gutierrez★★★★★
This review is long overdue, but I must add you can’t truly appreciate an experience until you miss it. Forn J. Monserrat is the only bakery I know where scratch-made bread meets authenticity, history, and family. This bakery has definitely been around for at least a century and the original family still runs and manages it. The experience of visiting something so authentic made me feel special. I was invited to try some tiny chocolate dipped croissants by the sweetest and kindest soul, Sandra. The tiny warm croissants just melted in my mouth. They were amazing! Besides that, the family sells several other varieties of scratch-made breads with recipes that have literally been handed down over the years! Authenticity is invaluable, and you can see that every year when the lines wrap around the building and down the street during Kings day for their authentic king's bread (Rosca de Reyes). Also their bread can be perfectly paired with cured meat. I definitely recommend anyone give this place a visit!
Enrique Tomas★★★★★
We are so delighted with this bakery that we are dreaming with croissants, apple pies and Coca de Llordons. The apple pie was a gastronomic orgasm! We have to recommend this bakery as the best in the area.

I love this place! Bread, "ensaimadas", "bunyols"... one of very few traditional remaining bakeries in Barcelona.

Alexey Subach★★★★★
The cheesecakes were just exceptional - the classic one had a small afternote of sheep’s cheese but it wasn’t overpowering but rather complementary. The pistachio one was also great and definitely not one of those cases where the flavour just feels off - here the pistachio flavour can easily compete with the classic one and almost feels like it’s a natural part of the recipe. The place is clean and neat inside and the staff is nice. Definitely a must and worth a detour even!
Leona Wang★★★★★
The chocolate on display might look a bit rich, but it’s actually topped with salt and olive oil—a very unique way of eating it, and quite interesting! When I tried it at home, I found it full of flavor. The rich cocoa taste combined with coarse salt balanced out the richness, with a hint of bitterness. It’s exactly the kind of flavor I love! This one won the "best flavor" vote with three out of five votes. It’s a must-try! The lava center is incredibly creamy with a rich milky flavor, complemented by a hint of sea salt for that perfect sweet-and-savory balance. We devoured it in no time . My friend highly recommended the pistachio flavor, and I second that. The balance of sweet and salty is spot-on, and the pistachio aroma is incredibly rich without being overwhelming. I absolutely loved it 💕. What’s most noteworthy is the cake base, which is different from Joncake or supermarket versions. It has a granular texture that pairs perfectly with the cake, creating a unique contrast. According to the staff, they specially developed this base, putting a lot of thought into it.
Maybel Gamboa★★★★★
Best birthday cake ever! Dark chocolate cake topped with olive oil and salt to complement the flavor 💯👏 also, the owner is really accommodating as he accepted my last minute order
Nastia★★★★★
Wow, what a taste, what a smoothness and what a service 🫶 I really enjoyed their coffee and an unforgettable Passion fruit - mango cheesecake 💛 It was just divine, melting in my mouth, with right balance between the sweet and sour! Well done, guys 👍
Frederique De Sousa★★★★★
Amazing delicious cheesecake ! They have a lot of nice flavors. The « more creamy » version with cow milk is excellent ! Really worth it to give a try! You will like it

Cindy Lin★★★★★
Bakery with a great hip vibe. Stumbled in on a walk and am so happy I did - the person ahead of me got sourdough which I want to try next time; but I got an Apple foccacia and the polenta/corn cake - the cultured cream with olive oil was delicious on top of the cake and the Apple focaccia is one of the tastiest pastries I have ever had - the crunchy bottom adds a lovely texture and it truly is delicious. 10/10 recommend. The space is small so better for take away or a single person sitting down 🫶🏽
Jorge L. Rojas★★★★☆
I came here to try the pastries. We had the brownie and the carrot cake. Both were decent but lacked a “kick”. I have heard excellent comments about this place so I will be back to try their bread offerings next time. So far, the place did not meet my expectations.
Antonia Letzel★★★★★
I took everything to go and had it on a bench nearby, since there is not a lot of seating options and nothing outside, but there are a lot of nice places to sit nearby. The carrot cake was probably the best one I have ever had and the service was super nice! Would definitely come again
Borja Berastegui★★★★★
Handy Bakery in Gràcia is a cozy little spot that nails the balance between great coffee and homemade treats. Everything is baked in-house, and it shows—from the moist berry loaf slices to the bright mini cakes with that pink glaze that catches your eye right away. The brownies are dense and rich, topped with just enough nuts and berries to make them feel a bit special without overdoing it. The coffee here is definitely a highlight. Whether you go for a smooth espresso, creamy latte, or a clean batch brew, it’s clear they take it seriously. The yogurt with granola is simple but feels fresh and made with care. The vibe is relaxed, and the staff is genuinely warm, which makes you want to stick around longer than planned.

We visited when they just opened in the morning. The atmosphere was really great and it is very clean. We ordered a medialuna and coffee.. I can say the medialuna really surprised me! Very tasty.. kinda sweet and not messy to eat. Bought other flavours too.
Hoow Z★★★★★
A great spot for coffee lovers. The coffee is incredibly creamy with perfectly textured milk. The croissant is delicious — crispy, buttery, and well-made, though slightly sweet for those who prefer less sweetness. Overall, a very satisfying experience and highly recommended.
Javier★★★★★
At this point it’s becoming my weekend coffee run with two medialunas, they’re great! I think it’s like €5.50 for the coffee + 2 medialunas combo which is very good. If you’re not from here and want to try some classic Argentinian medialunas with a good coffee, this is the place. They also have stickers if you want 👀
Tomiris Is★★★★★
The best croissants i have ever tried! Can’t get over it! Dream about them every day since i finish eating until my next time buying them… Beautiful shop, nice place, and for me a big advantage that they open at 8 AM, as long as many nice cafes are closed this time. Thank you for opening in Gracia! I wish your business stay strong and long so i can enjoy your products for longer
Amanda Sajewski★★★★★
A cute comfortable cafe we found when we needed a break from walking around the neighborhood. The drinks were refreshing and delicious. La limonada de maracuja had so much flavor. And the mini croissants were the perfect little bite!

My favorite morning spot in Barcelona! It’s an incredible bakery. I absolutely loved the almond croissant it’s hands down one of the best I’ve ever had. Their sandwiches are also delicious and made with very high-quality bread. I ended up having breakfast here every single morning during my stay. There’s no better way to start the day in Barceloneta
Lucy★★★★★
Delicious sandwiches and croissants (especially the one with almonds) and fresh orange juice is a big plus for me. Very nice to be able to have your snack and drink while sitting watching the street. Service is lively and nice. I love to take my morning snack in here whenever I can.

Great vibes! Why assortment of pastries, I need to come back for a baguette! What drew and was seeing the bread being made in a separate room adjacent to the bakery. Everything looked divine and I would love to eat the menu. I had a vegetable pizza but will be back for more!

Came upon Forn Mistral while exploring the Gràcia neighborhood and saw the line going out the door. Got in line to see what all the fuss was about. Everything look delicious. Tried a crème ensaimada and it was fantastic. I would definitely recommend this bakery and would love to return and try their other items.

Came across this bakery by chance, absolutely delicious! We got the cream pastry and it didn’t disappoint - absolute bargain too!
Melissa Giannotti★★★★★
I’ve been here more times than I should admit and they are perfect every time! The plain ensaimadas are unmatched to any other in Barcelona so far. Literally light as a feather! Their breads are also good as well as the croissants. If you’re around for their Coca Sant Joan definitely get some of those as well! It does seem odd they don’t open until 11am, however.

They are always kind and there is a big variety if sweets. Missing more salted options. Limited space inside, it is more to grab something on the go.

All the products seem so attractive and delicious, really hard to decide. I had croissant with pistachio and it was great. Friendly and smiling service and laid back atmosphere with a couple of seats that you can also enjoy your coffee or patisserie in the inside
Matt Blum★★★★★
If you can’t love what comes out of this place, you shouldn’t be trusted around a bakery. The cannolo is a bullseye. The maritozzo could start a religion. The Pain Suisse is immaculate enough to make a Parisian blush. Even the pizza has swagger. La Pasticceria di Gracia isn’t dessert, it’s therapy in powdered sugar and yeast. My Sunday ritual now...one pastry at a time until I’ve conquered them all.
Paco Paco★★★★★
An amazing find in Gràcia. Incredible pastries, excellent coffee, and genuinely warm service, a place where you truly feel spoiled. Pure coffee heaven!
AliMiDi★☆☆☆☆
A small Italian pastry shop, with limited seats inside and a small bench outside where you can sit for a quick bite. Quite disappointed with their coffee, the cappuccino was watered down and not creamy/foamy at all, I couldn’t drink it. Espresso was also below average. As for the pastries- the sfogliatella frolla is really nice, but that’s about it for me. The cornetto was nothing like the ones in Italy, they were dry and yeasty. Same for the colomba- worst I ever had. Dry, tasted like yeast and nothing else, very expensive for what it was. Not the greatest service either- the lady chitchats with other people for 5 min before acknowledging the people in line; or answers the phone while people are waiting, and goes away to talk, poor manners towards customers.

Insider Tips for Enjoying Bakeries Near Casa Vicens

To truly appreciate the baking culture of Gràcia, it helps to understand the local customs and timing. These tips will ensure you get the freshest pastries and the most authentic experience possible during your visit.

  1. Go early for the best selection. Traditional Spanish bakeries bake in the early morning hours. Arriving before 10:00 AM ensures you get pastries that are still warm from the oven and the widest variety of breads before they sell out.
  2. Learn the local terminology. While croissants are common, try ordering a palmera (palmier), an ensaïmada (spiral pastry), or a savory empanada. Asking for pa de pagès will get you a rustic, country-style loaf perfect for picnics.
  3. Embrace the "merienda" hour. Locals often enjoy a sweet treat and coffee between 5:00 PM and 7:00 PM. Visiting during this time allows you to experience the bakeries at their liveliest, when fresh afternoon batches of pastries often emerge.
  4. Bring cash for small purchases. While many modern bakeries accept credit cards, some traditional family-run shops have a minimum spend for card transactions. Carrying a few Euros ensures a quick and smooth transaction.
  5. Look for the "Forn de Pa" sign. This designation means "bread oven" and indicates that the establishment bakes its own dough on-site. This is a marker of quality and freshness, distinguishing artisan bakers from resellers.

Exploring the bakeries near Casa Vicens is more than just a snack break; it is a cultural immersion into the daily life of Barcelona’s most charming neighborhood. The craftsmanship found in these ovens mirrors the handcrafted detail Gaudí poured into his architecture.

As you sit in a sunny plaza with a paper bag full of warm pastries, you will understand why the residents of Gràcia are so proud of their local institutions. Take your time, savor the flavors, and enjoy the slower pace of life that defines this beautiful corner of the city.
