12 Best Bakeries Near Casa Batlló

Barcelona’s Eixample district is a masterpiece of urban planning, but it is also one of the best places in the city to eat. After marveling at the undulating façade and trencadís mosaics of Antoni Gaudí’s Casa Batlló, you will likely find yourself hungry for something just as memorable. The streets surrounding Passeig de Gràcia are densely packed with artisan bakeries, historic patisseries, and modern sourdough labs. Whether you need a quick croissant before entering the museum or a full pastry box to enjoy later, this neighborhood delivers.

The challenge for visitors is separating the tourist traps from the true local institutions. In a city with such a deep bread culture—from the rustic pa de pagès to the sugar-dusted xuixo—quality matters. You do not want to waste a meal on a stale industrial baguette when a world-class butter croissant is just around the corner. That is why I have focused on spots that locals actually queue for, not just places with prime real estate.

This curated guide is designed to save you time and ensure you taste the best baked goods Barcelona has to offer within walking distance of Casa Batlló. I have considered not only the flavor but also the atmosphere, the history, and the convenience for a traveler on foot. Some of these spots are perfect for a standing espresso at the bar, while others are ideal for grabbing provisions for a picnic on the rooftop of La Pedrera.

Because Barcelona is a city that moves on coffee and sugar, timing matters. Many of the best bakeries sell out of their signature items by mid-morning, especially on weekends. If you are an early riser, you will be rewarded with warm pastries and shorter lines. If you are visiting later in the day, I have included options that maintain high quality through the afternoon.

Accessibility is a key factor in this list. You will be doing a lot of walking, so every recommendation here is located within a comfortable 5 to 15 minute stroll from the Casa Batlló main entrance. I have prioritized pedestrian-friendly routes through the chamfered corners of the Eixample, allowing you to combine your carb-loading with sightseeing.

The list below balances tradition with innovation. You will find century-old ovens preserving Catalan recipes alongside young bakers pushing the boundaries of laminated dough. No matter which you choose, you can trust that the ingredients are high quality, the butter is real, and the craftsmanship is serious.

Let this be your roadmap to the flakiest croissants, the richest cakes, and the crustiest bread in the heart of Barcelona.

While looking for a traditional spot serving Spanish breakfast we stumbled upon this small-sized restaurant/cafe. We ordered a traditional egg/potato tortilla as well as a raspberry croissant. The portions weren't large however the food they served us was of high quality. All the dishes seemed to be freshly prepared on-site. The tortilla was tender and very fluffy but the croissant was extremely good! In fact one of the best we've ever had. It could be slightly less sweet for my personal taste. We were also given extra tomato bread to share free of charge which was also quite tasty. The staff at the till was helpful and spoke good English. The local offers both seating inside and outside. It isn't too spacious but it's clean.

Definetely a sheer pleasure and for sure you will eat Pasión 🙂 The housemade sandwich was tradional handmade with love and one of the best i ever had somewhere. Thanks for the nice welcome and warm service a family run-business with heart - highly recommended / Una recomendación absoluta!

Our favorite bakery during Barcelona stay. We came here every morning. I liked that this bakery offers egg dishes with quality pastries which are not common to see at the most of the bakeries in Barcelona. We paired egg potato tortillas (quiche type) with their delicious fresh pastries. Coffees were great too. Ensaimada and raspberry croissant and nutella berliner are the must!

We visited this place 3 times during our short trip to Barcelona. It was amazing, very good coffee and delicious food. Small baguette with Iberico was divine. We will definitely come back when we are in Barcelona again.

Very nice bakery/café, you can have some nice breakfast. The sandwich was VERY good, very crispy bread, very fresh ingredients. I also ordered a Tortilla de Patatas, it was als good, but it didn't exactly match my taste. They also gave us small bread pieces with tomatoes. Overall good experience 🙂

I visited Baluard Barceloneta and ordered a ham and cheese croissant, something I’ve always wanted to try, and it did not disappoint. It tasted amazing, I honestly could have eaten about ten of them. I also had a chocolate brownie which was really tasty as well. The café itself had a lovely vibe, with dim lighting, comfortable seating, and a really relaxed atmosphere. The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming, even though I don’t speak a word of Spanish, which made the experience even better. Overall, I would definitely recommend this place for great food and a nice café experience in Barcelona.

I absolutely loved this bakery. Since my hotel was just one block away, I stumbled across this place on my very first day. The young lady working here wear matching uniforms that give them such a Mediterranean vibe. All the breads are displayed behind glass windows, and it’s total eye candy for anyone who loves European‑style artisan bread. After bouts of indecision, fighting back my hesitation and slowly working through it, I finally settled on what I wanted to try: a baguette sandwich with Spanish ham and arugula, topped with what looked like either flaxseeds or sesame seeds. The young lady rang me up quickly, slipped the sandwich into a paper bag, and twisted the two top flaps of the bag into signature little horn‑shaped folds before handing it over. I opened it and took a bite. The crust had a firm, chewy texture, with slow‑building wheat aroma, plus the toasty fragrance of those seeds — whether flax or sesame — flooding my mouth. Just when I thought that was as good as it got, the savory saltiness of the ham hit, followed by the rich, creamy depth of the cheese. I don’t know if this is the most authentic Spanish bakery around, but as a first‑time visitor to Spain, I was genuinely blown away. That said, getting this bakery’s bread as my very first bite after arriving in Spain almost feels unfair — it’s set the bar so high that I won’t be able to experience Spanish bread in gradual, layered fashion.

Baluard on Provença stays at the top of my list because the team actually keeps the room cool and dry, a small miracle in Barcelona’s summer. Walk in and the modern-rustic bakery opens into a bright back area filled with greenery and plenty of seating, while a separate counter up front moves the take-away line quickly. The temperature control pays off in every bite. Pastries come out crisp and flaky, never limp. The almond croissant shatters perfectly, buttery without feeling heavy, and the lemon pop cake surprised me in the best way, light and bright with just enough zest to keep me going back for one more forkful. Service seals the deal. Alida greeted us with the kind of warmth that makes you feel like a regular, offered tasting notes on a few local specialties, and treated each order with care. I am already planning a return trip to work through the rest of the Spanish pastries and snag that triple-chocolate croissant I eyed on the way out.

Not really a sit down place but there is a small wooden bar with a couple of stools where I had my delicious coffee and fresh cinnamon roll. Service was very friendly and the breads they have there look absolutely incredible. Will be back to try them next time I'm in Barcelona!
ANNA YOKOTA★★★★★
The staff was very cheerful and kind, and above all, the bread was exquisite. Most people go for take-out, but there are two seats inside where you can relax.

One of our favorite bakeries and a place we keep coming back to. The pastries here are excellent, and the croissants are flaky, buttery, and consistently fresh every time we visit. We've been here many times and the quality has always been very consistent, which is one of the reasons we return so often.
Bartholomew Tan★★★★★
If I could do it all over again, I’d buy two of everything. The ensaymadas were unbelievably light and fluffy, with delicate, airy layers and just the right amount of sweetness. The xuixos were just as memorable - crisp on the outside, filled generously with smooth cream, and not overly sweet.
alexandra chan★★★★★
I ordered a croissant normal and a ensatmada cabell d’angel, both of them are really soft, the cabell d’angel has really nice filling. Absolutely love it, they’re just nicest pastry i’ve ever tried.
Huilin Ni★★★★★
The prices are a bit higher than a usual bakery, there's usually a pretty long line, but the wait was definitely worth it because you can tell how their products are handmade and very fresh. The chocolate inside the croissants we had wasn't melted properly (first time it happened), but the ensaimada was delicious! So good! Would love to go back and try their other pastries, they all look super tasty.
Evita T★★★★★
What a hidden gem this place turned out to be! I tried the ensaimadas with cream and absolutely fell in love. Yes, I really mean it! The staff were warm and friendly, and everything I tasted was spot on. It’s a fantastic bakery overall. I didn’t get the chance to try the bread, but it smelled incredible. Definitely something I’d go back for. It was so good it made me want to move there, just so I could eat their ensaimadas every single day!

Top spot for bread, a quick coffee and treats! Everything here is really, really good. Their breads are a masterclass in baking, and the chocolate cookie is easily one of the best around, good quality ingredients. Good coffee, too! Definitely worth a stop if you're looking for a tasty treat done right.
Julie Kuhrt★★★★★
These pastries were amazing! I was skeptical at first (as they are on the pricier side), but honestly they are worth it. You can tell they really put thought and care into the flavors they choose. And I’ll be dreaming about that rhubarb pastry. The focaccia is also super fluffy.
Beata Kanya★★★★★
Great service, amazing pastry! Light and fluffy, not too sweet at all. Loaded with fresh strawberries, and the hint of lemon was such a pleasant suprise! Definitely recommend!

Vanilla roll is very good. The custard filling is satisfying and not too sweet. Bun could be more soft though.
Beth Hughes★★★★★
So nice I had it twice! The crème Catalan pastry was insanely good, I went back 2 days later for another one. Gooey custard and flakey buttery super fresh pastry. Honestly in the top 5 pastries of my life. Coffee was great too. Went to two locations both good.

Such a great cafe! The vibe is incredibly warm, cozy, and laid back. I ordered an entrepà, and it was very tasty, excellent quality with freshly baked bread and generous portions of jamón and arugula. You can truly tell they put a lot of love into their food. The service was friendly and efficient, too. It seems like a perfect spot to enjoy with love ones or to bring a laptop, so I’ll be back during the week to work for a bit and try more of their sandwiches and pastries. Highly recommend!

A wonderful stay in Barcelona! The pantry was one of the highlights—great selection and a warm, welcoming atmosphere. Special thanks to Ali at the bakery for the friendly service, and to our Italian friend at check-in who made us feel right at home from the start. Ali and friends did a great job packing our pastry to take back to ny. The rooms were clean, comfortable, and well-maintained, and overall the staff was excellent throughout our stay. One small suggestion: the coffee and cappuccino could be a bit stronger and served hotter—but still enjoyable! Would definitely return and recommend to others visiting this beautiful city.

A legendary bakery in Barcelona! And truly, I haven't eaten bread like this in years, if not ever in my life! Excellent sandwiches, coffee, and what we love most: the daily rush of people stopping by before school, before work, or on their way to classes. And the absolutely delightful staff—young, helpful, polite, and fluent in English, patient with our attempts at conversation in Spanish!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - 5/5 stars - Forn De Sant Jaume Went here after seeing the beautiful cakes and decided on the 'cacahuete', which means peanut. The cake was delicious, nicely flavoured and had a great flavor balance🥰 It is not too sweet but consists of different dimensions. The staff couldnt speak English that well, but by speaking some Spanish everything worked out😁 Easily one of the best cakes I have eaten in Europe. A hidden gem for sure🙂

Forn De Sant Jaume in Barcelona is a delightful bakery that offers a charming experience with its wide variety of pastries and sweets. Located in the La Dreta de l'Eixample district, this bakery is known for its high-quality offerings, including empanadas, croissants, and a selection of chocolates and candies. The atmosphere is cozy and reminiscent of an old-fashioned diner, making it a perfect spot to enjoy a coffee and a sweet treat. The staff is friendly and attentive, ensuring a pleasant visit. Overall, Forn De Sant Jaume is a must-visit for anyone looking to indulge in delicious pastries in Barcelona.
Avery Ling★★★☆☆
It's alright but I wouldn't go back for the 'best' chocolate croissant which had a crust like a biscuit and inside like soft doughy bread. I've had much better croissants. Coffee with milk and chocolate croissant was €4.20. Good simple breakfast if you've got an early entry ticket for Casa Batllo or Mila. Probably nicer to sit at the outdoor terrace but I opted for an inside table as I was short on time. It was warm and stuffy and busy.

Everything we tried was absolutely delicious. The pastries were exceptional, and the quality was outstanding, especially considering the prices. The coffee was just as impressive, rich, flavorful, and clearly made with high-quality beans. The café had a lovely atmosphere, and the staff were warm, friendly, and welcoming. I would definitely come back and highly recommend it.

My daughter and I visited this pastry shop for the first time, and it instantly became my favorite in Barcelona! Not only can you enjoy truly exquisite and delicious desserts here, but the people who work here are simply incredible. Their genuine kindness, respect for every guest, and desire to make your visit special can be felt from the very first moment. The love and care are present not only in every bite of these amazing desserts but also in the atmosphere itself. You truly feel welcomed, as if they have been expecting you, and everything here has been thoughtfully created to make your experience unforgettable. Thank you to the entire team for such a warm welcome and a wonderful experience. We will definitely be back!

found here through friend's recommendation. and it is absolutely amazing!!!! I like less sweet desert and this 70% chocolate mose is perfect, creamy soft with such authentic cacao flavour, great balanced with crispy and slightly sweeter bottom. and the girls who worked here were super nice and patient. I took about 5 mins to decide which one to buy and she explained me everything. plus, she offered me a sample of their champion desert and the creamy filling was beyond description: not only chocolate creamy but so many other rich tastes, a bit sweet mixed with a slice of sour and lovely bitter. it's no wonder the champion of 2023!

The place is lovely, desserts are tasty and well balanced. Chocolate one was splendid. But… the lady behind the counter was not very friendly. Sweet desserts, sour faces.

I got lucky to stumble by when there was no line, and got to choose the vanilla-gerds out of all of the amazing pastries they had! It was not too sweet, very velvety and airy, perfect for a light afternoon snack! The staff were also very friendly and helpful! A must visit in Barcelona!

We had a wonderful experience at Faborit Casa Amatller🫶🏻The hot chocolate was rich and creamy, and the pastries were absolutely amazing. The café has a lovely atmosphere, making it the perfect place to relax after exploring the city. The historic setting makes the experience even more special. 💕

Wow! Great place with great history and story. You also have a guided tour of the hose which we didn't take. We came late and no crowd were there. Coffee was average, but chocolate was awesome, really the real thing hot chocolate. Ambient is vintage from the begining of 20th century with some modern style parts. Really nice experience and sweet stop.

Faborit | Casa Amatller – a perfect pause in the heart of Barcelona Faborit inside Casa Amatller is one of those places that instantly elevates your day. The location alone is breathtaking - sitting inside a masterpiece of modernist architecture on Passeig de Gràcia already sets the tone before you even order. The food is fresh, well-balanced, and thoughtfully prepared. Whether you’re stopping by for breakfast, brunch, or a light lunch, everything feels clean, modern, and high quality. Excellent coffee, beautifully presented dishes, and ingredients that clearly speak for themselves nothing overdone, just done right. What really stands out is the atmosphere: calm, stylish, and full of character. You feel the history of the building, but with a contemporary, relaxed vibe that makes you want to slow down and enjoy the moment. Service is friendly, attentive, and effortless - exactly what you hope for in a place like this. Perfect for a break from sightseeing, a casual business meeting, or simply enjoying Barcelona at its best. Faborit at Casa Amatller is not just a café - it’s an experience. Highly recommended.

The hot chocolate was amazing and not expensive given that they are inside Casa Amatller. The seating area outdoors is really nice and you can see the back side of Casa Batllo. It’s a nice place for a quick break during the day.

⸻ If you are planning to tour Casa Amatller anyway, this is a perfect spot to have lunch. The ticket includes your meal, their famous chocolate dessert, and the full house tour, so it ends up being a great value. The food was fresh, the chocolate is truly worth trying, and the whole experience feels very “Barcelona.” If you get the option to sit outdoors in the little courtyard, definitely do it. It is peaceful, pretty, and adds so much to the atmosphere.

This is hands down the best bakery in Barcelona! It's lively every morning, but absolutely worth the wait. The seating is cozy and limited, yet the charm and energy of the place make up for it. Prices are reasonable, and the fresh pastries and sandwiches are delightful--they even offer the option to toast or heat up the sandwiches. The coffee and cappuccinos are fantastic, too. You can watch the bakers at work through the windows, and the smell of freshly baked bread fills the air. I highly recommend starting your day with breakfast here!

Best breads in the city without a doubt! Their baguettes are incredible so do other breads and bakery. You can buy ready sandwiches for a picnic at the Barceloneta beach but you can also buy a bread and complement the stuff from supermarket to make your own sandwiches, as I like with mozzarella, avocado and tomato. They also have a cafe just across the street where you can buy coffee and pastries, which is also possible to have a seat and chat or work.

Best gluten free bakery in Barcelona! We were lucky that our accomm was nearby but what a gem. You won’t believe it’s GF. Best baguette and quiche to die for. We bought for a picnic and a train trip leaving Barcelona. Don’t miss this fabulous spot. Coffee is excellent too.

I had this bakery on my radar before even arriving in Barcelona, and I am so glad it was just a short walk away! As a huge sweet tooth, I naturally gravitated here, and they truly have a little bit of everything. From chocolates and candies to croissants and heavenly cream-filled pastries, the list just goes on. They even sell larger portions and whole cakes if you need treats for a celebration. The shop is very much a quick grab-and-go situation, making it super easy to pop in. What really stood out was the care they put into the packaging. They wrap your treats up so beautifully and even give you a convenient little handle to carry everything. I absolutely have to stop by another day before I leave (twist my arm!). Honestly, just pick whatever looks tasty to you, and I promise it will be incredible. Check this place out. It is totally worth the stop and truly the place to be for sweets!

Saw this place on Instagram and came to try the iconic Xuixo. It's creaminess is so good and delicious. They also sells chocolate and other confectioneries. Really liked their old school style decor too, feeling a bit nostalgic looking at those antiques in display at the window.

My husband brought me here and told me this place was highly recommended. However, the pastry that he wanted to try was sold out. Regardless, we ordered something else and it was delicious! I hope I get to come back and try more items.
Mish Ellesee★★★★★
I wish I could have tried more, but my review is based solely on the Strawberry Meringue - it was everything I wanted it to be. The slightest crunch on the outside and soft and gooey inside, with just the right amount of sweetness. Everything looked so amazing and I have no doubt it would all be equally as good.
Benjamin Lang★★★★★
Saw this charming bakery as I was coming out of the metro station and I had some time to kill, so I decided to try it out. What an amazing idea that was because I was blessed with the best dang pastries in town! I ordered a chocolate croissant that was crispy on the outside, but soft and frail on the inside. It was completely (thankfully a generous amount) filled with chocolate! I also ordered the famous xuixo de crema. This was hands down my favorite pastry I’ve had on my trip to Barcelona thus far. I got some other pastry I didn’t quite catch the name of, but it was delicious nonetheless! This is definitely a place worth visiting, and will be somewhere I’ll find my self at again.

Very nice and elaborated pastries. They have a lot of different flavors and shapes. The staff is very kind and professional. The dark moon was nice very chocolate, with a good mix of all the flavors from the external part to the inside mousse. The pistachio was interesting. The pistachio mousse with the crusty pistachio was very good. Not sweet and feel very good. However the inside marmalade of orange, passionfruit and yuzu was good on its own while the mix of this flavor with pistachio together was not the best mix i was able to test. The outside shape was very good, white chocolate with valrhona chocolate for sure. Anyway, taste and flavors are very personal, hence it is best for you to try and make your own opinion In all case this is a very good pastry for Barcelona, price are on the upper side as you can expect for this kind of work. The pistachio (festuc) was 14 euros The dark moon was 9 euros The cheesecake was 9 euros The 10 blueberries financier were 13,50 euros The kouign amann was 2,30 euros The roll of pistachio and orange was 7,50 euros As well to take in mind, if you order through delivery service app like Glovo, the price are 10% more expensive than public price in the shop. Probably they do that to save gross margin on the Glovo commission fees. Not very ethical but why not, most restaurants seems to do that.

We visited Patisserie Hofmann with pretty high expectations, given its popularity. The location is excellent and very convenient—easy to find while walking around the area. Another major plus is the pricing; for such a well-known brand, the prices are completely reasonable and affordable. Service was also on point; the staff worked quickly, so you don't have to wait in line for too long, which is always a pleasant surprise. Visually, the pastries and cupcakes look absolutely stunning. They immediately catch your eye with their beautiful presentation, vibrant colors, and rich toppings, making you expect an explosion of flavor. Unfortunately, that's exactly where the disappointment lay. The cupcakes themselves were quite dry on the inside, even though they look incredibly moist and juicy at first glance. The texture definitely didn't live up to their promising appearance. The main downside, however, is the space. The interior is extremely cramped and tiny, with only about three available seats. Because of this, it's almost impossible to sit down comfortably to enjoy a cup of coffee or eat your treats on-site. It feels much more like a grab-and-go concept, which slightly takes away from the overall experience. Great presentation and location, but the dry taste and lack of seating leave you with rather mixed feelings.

Edible art at its finest!!! DELICIOUS! Would make an incredible gift! Beautifully ornate, immaculate presentation that comes in an aesthetic gift box and bag. Honestly the most delicious desserts!!! I tried the “Limited Edition” and the “Festuc” (Pistachio). WOW AMAZING! I loved both! Absolutely worth the money. I got these as takeout to go.

The pastries at Hofmann Bakery were the best I’ve ever had. They were incredibly flaky, soft, and delicious. My favorites were the pistachio and orange pastries, and I also tried the plain one. Everything was amazing—highly recommended! 😋

Incredible pastries and patisserie, kind of glad it's here otherwise it would be taking my money regularly! I ordered a cheesecake croissant and mascapone croissant (recommended by the lady as it's their best seller) they both were filled perfectly. The cheesecake had a lovely balance between the tartness of the fruit against the cream filling. The mascapone croissant I could fully understand why it's their best seller, again not too sweet and lovely balance (I like to warm my pastries up) so made it extra special. I also ordered dark moon and romantic and honestly such beautiful patisserie. The romantic was my favourite out of the two but it brought back childhood flavours for me. Definitely recommend the romantic if you like white chocolate and raspberry. I really wanted to try the strawberries and cream as well because that looked delicious!

How to Choose the Right Bakery for You

With so many exceptional options near Passeig de Gràcia, deciding where to go can be overwhelming. The best choice depends on your schedule, your appetite, and how far you are willing to walk. To help you navigate the neighborhood like a local, I have put together a few practical tips that will elevate your bakery experience and ensure you never end up with a stale pastry or a long face.

  • Check the baking schedule: Many artisan bakeries bake croissants early in the morning and a second batch around midday. If you want a warm pastry, aim for opening time or just before the lunch rush.
  • Look for the "Forn de Pa" sign: Traditional Catalan bakeries often have a wood-fired oven and bake bread multiple times a day. These are usually better for savory bread and rustic loaves than modern pastry shops.
  • Order like a local: Instead of asking for a generic "croissant," try a "croissant de mantega" (butter croissant) or a "palmera" (palmier). Locals also often order a "cafè amb llet" to stand at the bar rather than taking a table.
  • Bring cash for small purchases: While most central bakeries accept cards now, some traditional family-run ovens have a minimum spend for credit cards. A €5 or €10 note is always useful.
  • Ask for a box, not a bag: If you are buying delicate pastries like mille-feuille or cream-filled xuixos, ask for a "caixa" (box). A paper bag will crush the pastry and ruin the texture by the time you sit down to eat it.

Exploring the bakeries near Casa Batlló is more than just a snack break; it is a deep dive into Catalan culture. The way a city bakes its bread and sweets tells you a lot about its history, its climate, and its pace of life. By choosing one of the recommended spots above, you are participating in a daily ritual that has sustained Barcelonians for generations.

Take your time, watch how the locals order, and do not be afraid to point at something you have never seen before. The best travel memories often come wrapped in parchment paper, still warm from the oven, enjoyed on a sunny bench with a view of Gaudí’s genius. Bon profit!
