Stepping out of the majestic Hôtel des Invalides, with its gilded dome glinting in the Parisian light, often leaves visitors with a profound sense of history—and, quite frequently, a growing appetite. After wandering the vast esplanade and absorbing the military heritage of France, the surrounding 7th arrondissement offers a delicious counterpoint to the grandeur.
This elegant neighborhood, while known for its embassies and quiet, aristocratic streets, hides a vibrant culinary scene waiting to be discovered by those with a sweet tooth. The area is not just a museum district; it is a living, breathing community where artisans perfect the delicate craft of French baking daily.
From the crisp, buttery layers of a perfect croissant to the glossy, intricate artistry of a Paris-Brest, the standards here are exceptionally high. These establishments serve a discerning clientele of locals, politicians, and international travelers, meaning quality and consistency are not just goals but necessities.
Knowing where to find the best bread for a picnic on the Champ-de-Mars or the most refined patisserie for a special gift can transform your visit. You want to avoid the tourist traps with their stale displays and seek out the genuine artisans who have earned the respect of the neighborhood.
This guide focuses on the authentic experiences, the family-run ovens, and the award-winning pastry chefs who have made this corner of Paris a haven for gourmands. We have walked the streets, sampled the goods, and curated a list that balances heritage with modern innovation.
Whether you are looking for a quick, flaky snack before visiting the Rodin Museum or a luxurious box of chocolates to take home, this selection will guide you to the very best. Prepare your palate for a journey through butter, sugar, and flour that is as culturally significant as the monuments themselves.
Here are the finest bakeries and patisseries within a short stroll of Les Invalides.

Very decent baguette and very good service despite being one of the more busy boulangeries. But most of all what I liked was the extensiveness of their sandwiches. There’s something for everyone.

If you love authentic French pastries served with love, you have to come here!
A huge thanks to the team at Bulangerie du Musee for taking such wonderful care of me and helping me choose all the perfect pastries that me and my family needed to begin our very first evening in Paris.
Even though you were almost about to close, you still took the time to help me with kindness and warmth. Your beautiful pastries made our first evening in Paris truly magical and added such a special taste to our first memories of this wonderful city.
You know what you did for us. Thank you for your generosity, your care, and your incredible pastries.
Magical moments, made even more special by you. Thank you!

Fantastic little boulangerie! For those that don’t know (I didn’t), boulangerie means everything is baked fresh in house.. and boy can you tell! Everything we tried was fantastic. Pair that with a great cappuccino plus wonderful customer service and you have yourself an awesome little shop.

Bonjour!
This was the very first bakery I visited, first time in Paris, and this was the go to spot for my friend and I every single day. From Baguettes, croissants, pastries, to coffee. Everything was so delicious and something I wish I could have everyday! On top of all the goods, the service and people working, are the most kindhearted! Super thankful we came here!

Amazing cakes and pastries! I came here multiple times during my stay in Paris, since it was the closest boulangerie to my accommodation, and it was a favourite stop of mine to pick up some afternoon tea or dessert. Great range of sweets, and all delicious! My favourite was the raspberry macaron sandwich.

I had a wonderful experience at this bakery. It was very busy and there was a queue. It looks like a museum inside - so beautiful. Tables and chairs to sit on outside, which is a bonus. The sandwiches were good, but the Pear and Chocolate Tart was sensational - not too sweet, so fresh and crumbly - I think it was the most delicious dessert I’ve ever eaten 🥹 (on this trip anyway 🙃)

Maison Bergeron was very close to where we stayed, and during our 7 days in Paris, it was the only bakery we visited every single day.
The service was excellent—warm, friendly, and welcoming. As tourists from Taiwan, our French was quite limited, but the staff were always happy to speak English with us and made us feel comfortable from the moment we walked in.
During our stay, we tried a wide variety of items, including baguettes, traditional baguettes, chocolate croissants, sandwiches, salads, croissants, éclairs, cannelés, palmiers, and several delicious desserts whose names I unfortunately can’t remember.
Everything we tasted was fresh and delicious. Maison Bergeron quickly became one of our favorite places in Paris, and we will definitely be back the next time we visit the city.
Highly recommended for anyone looking for excellent pastries, bread, and friendly service in Paris.

Lovely bakery, though be prepared for it to be busy. We tried the crookie and the pain au chocolat. The crookie was outstanding, easily the highlight. The pain au chocolat was fine, nothing special, but perfectly good. Beautiful spot and worth a stop.

Stopped by La Parisienne for a croissant while exploring Paris. The croissant was fresh, flaky, and very tasty—exactly what I was hoping for from a local Parisian bakery. My go to daily bakery. Evening baguettes Tradition are out just before 4pm. Baguette cereal only in the mornings - don’t get them for the evening. Staff speaks English but please start with a Bonjour. Fresh tarts/pies are displayed cut and displayed whole. Get those as they are made that day. Other tarts are kept on the shelf’s until it is sold and can sit for a few days in the open. Lunch lines are long but move fast. Make sure you take a look at what you want before getting in line. Breakfast lines can be long between 9 and 10am but moves fast.

A Slice of Heaven at Notre Pâtisserie, Paris!
My visit to Notre Pâtisserie was nothing short of magical-this charming Parisian gem exceeded all my expectations with its flawless pastries and warm, inviting ambiance.
The Tarte au citron meringuée was an absolute revelation: the crisp, buttery crust cradled a velvety lemon filling that struck the perfect balance between tangy and sweet, finished with a delicate torched meringue topping. Pure sunshine on a plate!
Their legendary Opera Cake is a masterclass in precision-layers of almond sponge, coffee buttercream, and dark chocolate ganache harmonize into an elegant, rich symphony of flavors. Each bite was sheer perfection.
I fell in love with their Orange Brioche Buns, too-pillowy soft dough swirled with fragrant orange zest and a hint of caramelized sweetness. Paired with coffee, it was morning bliss.
And of course, their Croissant? The gold standard. Shatteringly crisp exterior giving way to airy, honeycombed layers with that unmistakable French butter aroma. Worth waking up early for!
With impeccable craftsmanship in every creation and service that makes you feel like family, Notre Pâtisserie is a non-negotiable stop for any pastry lover in Paris. Merveilleux!

We passed that small and lovely boulangerie in the late afternoon and spontaneously bought 2 butter croissants 🥐 and also 4 eclairs.
What should I say..... everything was just devine.
Original tone of my teenager son:"This is the best and most delicious eclair I ever had" and I had to agree.
The lady in there was very friendly and even we ate everything shortly after leaving, it was packed very carefully and beautiful.
Would definitely recommend this little treasure and will go back when in Paris again.
Katelyn Miller★★★★★
We were only in Paris for a day and a half but this was truly a highlight of our stay back in May 2025. Maison Galland was across the street from where we were staying so the concierge recommended it. I stopped in at least three times during our short stay. The croissants and pan au chocolat were fantastic and fell in love with a simple turkey sandwich. Everything was reasonably priced. The madame at the counter was so kind, patient, and understanding with my very limited French. We hope to visit Paris again and will definitely be back for more delicious adventures. Merci!

Fantastic little bakery!
Their brioche à la fleur d’oranger is spectacular! Their viennoiseries are amongst the best I’ve tried.
I love that they sell bite-size versions of crowd favorites like croissants, apple turnovers, and pain au chocolat so one can try multiple things without over indulging or wasting food.
Devon Wescott★★★★★
Delicious! The ladies behind the counter are so kind and patient, especially with those of us who don’t speak French, and the pastries were a delight. The quiche is not to be missed. We will be coming back here as many times as we can before we leave Paris!

2025: We took away the croissant au beurre to taste test with bakeries in the area and were really impressed. The croissant had the most light and crispy exterior and airy soft interior. After each bite the croissant came back to its near original height. The combination of taste/texture/appearance made it the winner. This time compared to last year there were ~5 patrons ahead of us in queue. It’s popular! 2024: Sourdough baguette made from corn, buckwheat and wheat was crunchy outside and soft and dense interior. So good! (5⭐️) We tried the original croissant and a pain aux raisins and those were okay. (More bread like) We visited on a weekday before 8am and we had time to peek at the full set of offerings and choose something. Soon after a queue of 5 patrons gathered so we felt some pressure to get our order and move on out. Appears to be popular with regulars.

If you’re in Paris, Liberté Pâtisserie is a must.
I came here on my last trip a few times and had to bring my daughter back this time. It’s still my favorite pâtisserie I’ve tried in Paris so far. The location is lovely, everything feels incredibly fresh, and the croissants are some of the best I’ve had.
I’ve tried a few different things on the menu and everything has been consistently good. I also love sitting outside on the bench, it’s such a simple but perfect spot to slow down for a bit.
They have great drink options too, including non-caffeinated choices, which I really appreciate.
For me, it’s just one of those places that does everything right.
Sam_Travels★★★★★
They offer many options with great coffee service. The staff was very friendly and nice! You can also sit and enjoy your breakfast for a small extra fee. The portion was quite generous, it was so heavy that I couldn’t finish my first one and had to take the rest to go. The prices are also reasonable; my friend and I paid less than €30 in total.
Kal Ganesan★★☆☆☆
Walked over a mile based on some review and was disappointed. Had vegetarian sandwich and cappuccino. The baguette was tough so wondering if it was fresh made that day! Cappuccino was okay. Wouldn’t recommend! Most people were buying pastries and not many sandwich choices!
Mama Noni★★★★★
Stopped in for the dine-in lunch deal (€10.90 for a sandwich, drink, and dessert) and was instantly impressed. The place was buzzing with a steady stream of happy customers, and it’s easy to see why. The breads and pastries are some of the best I’ve tasted — fresh, buttery, and beautifully made. The selection of desserts is incredible, and the madeleine is hands down the tastiest, melt-in-your-mouth one I’ve ever had. Excellent quality, lovely atmosphere… I think I’ve just found my new favourite spot! Can’t seem to upload a video of the selection but other reviews on here are representative.
Other useful info:
Mainly take away. Very small sitting area but there’s also a bench outside. Only major downside is that there’s not a toilet for customers.

Great place to have breakfast and brunch!!!
This bakery has many reasons to be voted for 5 stars:
- Great variety of pastries (Try the almond croissant)
- Vintage environment reminding something from old Paris times
- Great location near the Eiffel Tower
- The staff is very kind and helpful
- There are tables to eat in, which is something you can’t find easily in Paris
- Fresh & tasty bread baguette
It was my first experience eating in Paris and I am happy for that!

First off the ladies at the counter were quite rude, they laughed at us when we didn’t understand something they said, and we asked them what was in one of their pastries and they barely answered super vaguely. The cappuccino didn’t taste like coffee and the hot chocolate wasn’t good. Prices were decent and the pastries were good. Place is cute though.
Polina Vasilyeva★★★★☆
Tasty coffee, wide choice of pastries, nice vibe, they put our croissants on dirty board, not even on a napkin. No WC. Eclaires are not in the refridgerator.

Great little café in Paris! Excellent coffee, fair local prices (not touristy), fresh food, and a convenient menu with a few sandwiches and desserts. Everything we ordered was delicious. Just visited this place and everything was amazing. The sandwiches and pastries were all delicious, and the flan was definitely our favorite. Allan was the best - super kind and friendly. He helped us decide what to order and also gave us so many great recommendations for places to visit since it's our first time in Paris. Thanks again, Allan!

I almost cried it was so good, beginning with the extreme kindness of the service. It was almost all locals standing in line and then when it was our turn to order, they were so great to explain in English and be patient and he actually made a fresh sandwich instead of handing a ready made in the case. And helped make decisions and it was a beautiful experience that even left a mark on my teenagers. Thank you for the incredible bread and pastries and coffee as well as the forever impression 🫶

Everything I have tried were great. Flan is sweet and creamy. All is delicious and I really enjoy every of them!

The flan is perfectly done with soft melty inside and bit chewy thin outside. The vanilla beans are visible, so the fragrance is really sweet and strong.
Tips for Choosing the Right Bakery in the 7th Arrondissement
The sheer number of storefronts displaying golden baguettes can be overwhelming, and not all are created equal. To ensure you spend your calories and euros wisely in this prestigious district, it helps to know what separates a true artisan from a simple reseller of industrial dough. By observing a few key details, you can navigate the neighborhood like a local food critic and avoid the disappointment of a mediocre pastry.
1. Look for the "Artisan Boulanger" Sign
In France, the title "Artisan Boulanger" is legally protected. If you see this sign on a storefront, it means the bread is kneaded, shaped, and baked on the premises. If the sign is absent, the establishment is likely a "depot de pain," simply reheating frozen or factory-made dough. For the best experience near Les Invalides, always prioritize shops displaying this official certification.
2. Time Your Visit Strategically
The rhythm of a French bakery is sacred. If you want the best selection of pastries and viennoiseries, visit between 8:00 AM and 10:00 AM when the shelves are fully stocked and the croissants are still slightly warm. For baguettes, observe the local rush around 12:30 PM; if a line forms out the door before lunch, you know the bread is worth the wait.
3. Assess the Visual "Less is More" Principle
A world-class patisserie often displays a curated selection rather than a chaotic mountain of goods. Look at the precision of the glazing on the fruit tarts and the uniformity of the lamination on the croissants. If the pastries look tired, melted, or overly handled, it is a sign that the turnover is low and the product is not fresh.
4. Don’t Judge by the Storefront Alone
While the 7th arrondissement has many beautifully decorated shops, some of the best flavors come from modest, older establishments that have focused on ovens rather than interior design for decades. Conversely, some modern chains look beautiful but lack soul in the dough. Read the reviews focusing on the specific items you want, such as the "flakiness of the croissant" rather than the "cute decor."
5. Master the "Tradition" vs. "Classique" Choice
When buying a baguette, you will usually be asked if you want a "tradition" or a "classique" (or "standard"). The "baguette de tradition française" is strictly regulated by law; it can only contain wheat flour, water, salt, and yeast—no additives or preservatives. It is almost always the superior choice for flavor, texture, and digestibility, and it is what the locals buy.
6. Consider the Savory Side
A great bakery is not just about sugar. If you are looking for a quick lunch to eat on the lawns of the Esplanade des Invalides, look for a bakery that offers high-quality savory items like quiche Lorraine, croque monsieur, or fresh sandwiches on their own baked bread. This is often a better and more authentic value than eating at a nearby brasserie.
The area surrounding Les Invalides is a microcosm of French gastronomic excellence, where the simple act of buying bread becomes a ritual. By seeking out the artisans who respect tradition while embracing quality ingredients, you are participating in a cultural legacy that dates back centuries.
