10 Best Tourist Attractions Near Plaza de España

Standing in the heart of Seville, Plaza de España is more than just a square; it is a theatrical masterpiece of Renaissance Revival architecture that captures the romantic spirit of Andalusia. Built for the 1929 Ibero-American Exposition, the sweeping semi-circular complex is framed by ornate bridges, colorful azulejo tiles, and a navigable canal that has earned it the nickname "The Venice of Seville." While the plaza itself demands a significant amount of time for admiration and photography, its strategic location in the lush María Luisa Park makes it the perfect launchpad for exploring the city’s most iconic landmarks.

Many visitors make the mistake of viewing Plaza de España as a standalone destination, snapping a few photos, and immediately heading back to the hotel. However, the surrounding area is a treasure trove of cultural heritage, shaded gardens, and historic riverfronts that often get overlooked in rushed itineraries. By understanding the geography of the neighborhood, you can seamlessly transition from the grandeur of the plaza to the intimate corners of Seville’s old town and the bohemian vibe of the Triana district.

Seville is a city best explored on foot, especially during the mild months of spring and autumn when the scent of orange blossoms or jasmine fills the air. The attractions near Plaza de España offer a diverse mix of experiences, ranging from UNESCO World Heritage palaces and ancient tobacco factories to bustling food markets and riverside promenades. Whether you are a history buff, a foodie, or a family traveling with children, the immediate radius around the plaza provides a comprehensive slice of Sevillian life.

This guide is curated to help you maximize your time and avoid backtracking across the city. We have focused on destinations that are geographically logical to visit before or after your time at Plaza de España, ensuring a smooth flow for your walking tour. Each attraction listed below has been selected for its proximity, historical significance, and the unique value it adds to your understanding of the Andalusian capital.

Accessibility is a key factor when planning a day out in the Andalusian heat. The locations described here are connected by wide, flat avenues and the shaded paths of María Luisa Park, making them suitable for strollers and wheelchairs. Additionally, many offer convenient connections to the tram and metro lines if you prefer to rest your feet between stops, allowing you to cover more ground without exhausting yourself.

As a local search expert and frequent visitor to the region, I have prioritized depth over quantity. Rather than listing every minor monument, this article focuses on the ten best attractions that offer the highest return on your time investment. These are the places that locals recommend to visiting friends and family, ensuring you experience the authentic character of Seville rather than just a checklist of tourist traps.

Before you set out, remember that Seville operates on a Mediterranean schedule; many sites close for siesta in the late afternoon and reopen in the evening. Planning your route around these hours, and utilizing the nearby park benches for rest, will make your exploration of the area around Plaza de España a truly unforgettable highlight of your Spanish journey.

A must do, whether you are religious or not. Steeped in history, beautiful decorated and incredible architecture. Christopher Colombus tomb is located in the main hall. The views from the tower are amazing, and reward the climb, although all ramps not steps - there are plenty of openings that allow a breeze into the tower or a place to sit and rest for a moment.
Deepsikha Majhi★★★★★
Very nice n big. Amazing work done inside the cathedral. Go with guide to have a better experience. Jesus life story wall made up of golden color is wonderful. The view from the bell tower is not so clear because there are wire fences all around. And there are ramps not stairs to go up. But the city view is beautiful from there. Both old n new architecture can be found in the city.

Stunning architecture. Huge cathedral. Love that the tower is a sloping path not steps. I think much easier to “ climb “. Great view shame about bird wire does restrict view a tiny bit Definitely worth a visit Go at 4pm we went on Saturday @4 no queue at this time and not packed inside

2026/04 35 slopes and 17 stairs. The La Giralda is the iconic bell tower of the Catedral de Sevilla in Seville, and is one of the most recognizable landmarks in southern Spain. Originally built in the 12th century during the Almohad dynasty as a minaret for the city’s main mosque, it was later transformed into a bell tower after the Christian conquest of Seville, reflecting the cultural changes brought by the Reconquista. Architecturally, the tower is a remarkable fusion of Islamic and Renaissance styles: the lower section preserves its Moorish design, with intricate brick patterns, arched windows, and geometric decoration, while the upper section was added in the 16th century, introducing classical Renaissance elements. The tower rises to about 104 meters and is crowned by the “Giraldillo,” a large bronze statue that functions as a weather vane and symbolizes faith. A unique feature of La Giralda is its interior system of ramps instead of stairs, originally designed to allow riders on horseback to ascend to the top. Today, visitors can walk up these ramps to enjoy panoramic views over Seville, including the cathedral, historic quarters, and the Guadalquivir River. As both a functional structure and a cultural symbol, La Giralda represents the layered history and architectural continuity of Seville across centuries.

Stunning History, Great for Kids (But Skip the Stroller!) La Giralda is an absolutely magnificent historical landmark. The rich history inside the palace structure and the beautifully preserved relics are incredible to see in person. If you are visiting with young kids, there are some wonderful highlights for them—our 4-year-old daughter absolutely loved the fish feeding and the pigeon feeding area, which kept her completely engaged and entertained! However, a major heads-up for parents traveling with toddlers: there are no elevators here. If you bring a baby trolley or stroller, be prepared for some serious heavy lifting up and down narrow, historic staircases just to get inside and outside the main areas. Additionally, while the famous climb up the tower itself uses sloping ramps rather than traditional steps, the final stretch has narrow stairs, and strollers are not allowed up the tower for safety reasons. Tip for parents: Leave the stroller at the designated hotel/check area or swap it for a baby carrier before you head inside. It is 100% worth the visit, but much easier to navigate without wheels!

For me, the most beautiful park in the world. The plaza on its own is breathtakingly stunning. We have arrived end of April, 30 degrees but still manageable. The architecture from Gonzalez is exceptional. You can take a horse drawn carriage, hire a bicycle car type thing or a boat and row the canal. The 48 benches dedicated to provinces or Spanish cities are excellent for relaxing after walking around the park. There are view points all over the plaza and its all just so photogenic. We saw a flamenco show in the central area in the day and then there are flamenco guitar players and other musicians dotted around the plaza all day and into the night. The actual park has so many vibrant flowes, lots of shaded seating areas and water features and ponds (with some slightly grumpy ducks floating around). We went 3 times in one day and I am looking forward to going again on this trip. It was spectacular at sunset and with an almost full moon overhead. Wear comfortable shoes and take water.

Hands down the most beautiful park in the world! The sheer amount to do inside of a park is incredible, there is fountains, waterfalls, statues, monuments, wildlife! You can easily spend a whole day from dusk till dawn just wandering this park. If not though I personally recommend coming towards golden hour and watching the sunset so unbelievably stunning. I was in Seville end of November and the park was beautifully maintained - on my last day I saw a huge landscaping team working you can tell the city takes pride in the park. It was so peaceful at all times with families and friends hanging out - I sat in the evening by myself eating dinner and it was completely peaceful you couldn't say that about most parks imo. I really felt drawn to spend as much time as possible there I will definitely be back in springtime to see it in full bloom.
Vivacious Spirit★★★★★
A gorgeous park in the middle of Seville, with Plaza de Espagna at its core. Enjoyed strolling here and resting under the abundantly flowersome pergolas and mature trees. There was a waterfall too and ice creams nearby, so peaceful and offered a bit of welcome shade and coolness. Finished off at the Plaza, admiring the astounding architectural details and soaking up the unique, old-timesque energy of this place. It has a slow, sultry, romantic feel to it with horse-drawn carriages passing here and there to and from the plaza and a sleepy canal with a stunning footbridge and small rowing boats adding to the overall charm.
Jonny Cruz★★★★★
This park was so amazing. Really big and so many nice little squares and animals and water features. It was great to walk around for a while taking photos and videos and was nice and cool from all the shade away from the otherwise hot weather.
Emma Payne★★★★★
I arrived about 9am and it was a lovely time where the gardeners are out, it’s quiet and you can get really nice photos with no one in them. Sit and have a coffee, read a book or explore through the gardens.

This is a nice little attraction, which is donation run. Well worth a few euros to climb the stairs and take some vista pictures. There is a small navel museum within, with a audio guide download able by smartphone. Worth a visit, but challenging if you don't like spiral staircases or are less physically able, as there are a lot of steps.
Andrew Brown★★★☆☆
It’s a beautiful building but the exhibits within are a little lacking. Entry It’s a little of putting as a donation is requested before entry. Perhaps if this was done on exit there would be a fear that there would be a significant reduction in the value of the donation. That is a realist prospect! A collection of poorly labelled paintings and nautical exhibits lie with in. The view from the tower is not worth the climb ( there are not many steps ) at the top the turrets are protected from tourists being foolish. We donated 10€ on entry but felt 5€ was perhaps the real value. The main entrance is among the many phonetical bus tour salesfolk. Step off the main road onto the river, find a bench and take in the history of the building. It is a beautiful building.
Borut Vasle★★★★★
Actually inside is Seville naval history museum. You can donate as much as you want. Otherwise is free. Museum is small but as a history lover I could be there at least one hour or more. The view is really beautiful. Highly recommended.

Torre del Oro is one of Seville’s most iconic landmarks and a must-visit when exploring the city’s historic riverside. Standing proudly on the banks of the Guadalquivir River, this 13th-century military watchtower has witnessed centuries of Spanish history and continues to be one of the city’s most photographed monuments. Built around 1220 during the Almohad dynasty, the tower originally formed part of Seville’s defensive walls and was used to protect the city by controlling access along the river. A heavy chain was once stretched across the Guadalquivir from the tower to prevent enemy ships from entering the city. Over the centuries, Torre del Oro has served many purposes, including a watchtower, a chapel, a prison, and even a storage place for precious metals brought back from Spain’s voyages to the Americas. Its name, which translates to “Tower of Gold,” has inspired several theories. Some believe it comes from the golden glow reflected by its lime mortar and straw-coated exterior when the sun hits it, while others associate it with the gold and treasures that once passed through Seville during Spain’s Golden Age of exploration. The tower itself has a distinctive 12-sided design and consists of three sections built during different historical periods. Today, it houses a small Naval Museum (Museo Naval), where visitors can learn about Seville’s rich maritime history, Christopher Columbus’s voyages, historic navigation instruments, maps, ship models, and Spain’s important relationship with the Guadalquivir River. One of the highlights is climbing to the top of the tower. Although the climb is relatively short, you’re rewarded with beautiful panoramic views of Seville. From above, you can admire the Guadalquivir River, the elegant Triana Bridge, the colourful riverside promenade, passing boats, and several of Seville’s famous landmarks. It’s a wonderful viewpoint, especially during sunset when the golden light reflects beautifully across the river. The surrounding area is equally enjoyable. The riverside promenade is lined with palm trees, cafés, cyclists, and people enjoying leisurely walks. It’s a lively yet relaxing part of the city and an excellent place to sit for a while, watch the boats drift by, or simply soak in Seville’s atmosphere. Whether you’re passionate about history, architecture, or simply want one of the best views in the city, Torre del Oro offers a little bit of everything. Its historical significance, beautiful riverside setting, and well-preserved architecture make it one of Seville’s most recognisable attractions. If you’re visiting Seville, don’t just admire the tower from the outside. Take the time to explore its fascinating history and climb to the top for the views. It’s a relatively quick visit but one that adds so much context to Seville’s incredible maritime past and its role as one of Europe’s most important trading cities during the Age of Discovery.
Selim Mezher★★★★☆
Nice to see but dont expect a great view from the top. Also has some nice small museums inside. Visits are on donation basis so you choose how much to pay.

It’s a huge plaza with so many beautiful design. With two tower in each side. The big fountain in the middle and the beautiful bridge. It’s a perfect spot to collect beautiful photos for sns. There is jogging track too. The best time to come here is in the morning when there is few people so you can soak the atmosphere. One of A really must visit place in sevilla

One of the most beautiful sites in Sevilla. It was an incredible experience to see this Spanish masterpiece in person; and experience the feeling of visiting Naboo at the same time. The architecture, the fountain, the atmosphere were all outstanding and I deeply enjoyed my visit. A must-see location in Sevilla.
Alicia Almarales★★★★★
I had such a great experience here! It was quite busy when I visited, but honestly, it didn’t bother me at all. There was also a flamenco performance happening at the time, which was such a fun and unexpected addition to the experience. I spent some time walking around, taking beautiful photos and even found a nice spot to sit down and read my book for a while. I really enjoyed the atmosphere and loved simply taking my time to explore and relax. Definitely worth a visit!

Igors Litvinuks★★★★★
A truly stunning place and one of the highlights of Seville. The architecture is beautifully preserved, both inside and out, with incredible attention to detail throughout the palace. The courtyards, intricate decorations, and lovely gardens make it easy to spend several hours exploring. I was glad to have a bottle of water with me, as the visit took around 2.5 hours at a comfortable pace. Buying tickets online in advance is definitely the best option, especially during busy periods. I also recommend combining your visit with the Cathedral, which is only about a 10-minute walk away. Highly recommended for anyone interested in history, architecture, and beautiful gardens.
Don MacAuslan★★★★★
Visited on a walking tour. Carlos our guide was excellent. Stunning architecture, mosaics and colours. Also gardens are spectacular. Skip the line tickets are a must in high season. Also bring water if visiting in June as temps in seville in summer are surface of the sun hot! Highly recommend.
Cindy, Realtor & Travel Lover★★★★★
The Royal Alcázar of Seville is one of those places that makes you stop every few steps and say, “Okay, one more photo…” The architecture is breathtaking, the details are incredible, and the gardens are absolutely magical. We could have spent hours wandering through the pathways and courtyards. Every corner feels like a postcard. A few tips from a fellow traveler: book the earliest entry time possible because the Seville heat is no joke. Bring a fan, wear comfortable shoes, and don’t forget your headphones for the audio tour. And ladies… wear your cutest outfit. 📸✨ There are photo opportunities everywhere. Seriously. Every archway, garden path, fountain, and courtyard is begging for a picture. If you’re planning a trip to Seville, the Royal Alcázar is 100% worth it. Beautiful, historic, and somehow even more impressive in person than in photos. 10/10. Bring water, bring a fan, and make room on your phone for about 300 photos. 🇪🇸☀️🌴🏰📷
Édouard Baladès★★★★★
The mix of architectural styles makes this place truly enchanting. The gardens are vast and provide a welcome respite from the heat on Seville’s many sunny, hot days. During peak season, be sure to book several days in advance, as the tickets are sold out every morning.
Wukong★★★★★
An absolutely breathtaking visit to the Real Alcázar of Seville. The palace is a stunning blend of history, art, and architecture, with intricate Mudéjar details, beautiful courtyards, and richly decorated rooms that feel like stepping back in time. The gardens are equally impressive—peaceful, expansive, and immaculately maintained, perfect for wandering and taking in the atmosphere. Every corner tells a story, and the overall experience is both culturally enriching and visually unforgettable. A must‑see landmark in Seville and one of the most beautiful historic sites I’ve ever visited. Highly recommended.

A must-visit landmark in Seville! The architecture is stunning and offers amazing panoramic views of the city. The walkway at the top is well designed, and the views are completely different during the day and at night. One of the best features is that with a single ticket, you can visit twice on the same day—once during the daytime and once again in the evening. This makes it a great value, as you get to experience the city in both daylight and with the beautiful nighttime illumination. I highly recommend visiting before sunset, staying for the views, and then returning after dark to enjoy a completely different atmosphere. Definitely one of the highlights of my trip to Seville.
Nilima Begum★★★★★
Beautiful and picturesque views! Especially in the evening with the light show. We went just before sunset and the views were incredible! Quite busy at that time though so difficult to capture the individual pictures you may want. Aside from that, great views at the top and great vibes down below on the steps where people were singing and dancing! A family friendly evening out
Kev Hayward★★★★☆
Great view point to see the city. Booking in advance is recommended, and if you go in the day you can go back again once in the next 48hrs, so we used it to go after sunset to see the magnificent lights and city sights all lit up. We ate in the square opposite and watched as the sunset and the Setas then lit up, showing us the lights from underneath. Doesn't take you 40 minutes to walk around, unless you count the 15min virtual show at the end, which we didn't do.
Alaleh - FoodyTO★★★★★
This is a world’s largest wooden structure and a must-visit in Sevilla. It also creates a nice change in the older and historic part of the city. The structure is modern and unique, and walking around the top gives you a different view of Seville. We visited here early evening to watch the sunset and also the beautiful lighting of the structure. We also enjoyed the 360 view of the city as we walked around the centre. There’s also a short movie played at the end of the visit, which gives a nice history lesson.
Lee Hinchcliffe★★★★☆
Not bad, but if anything perhaps a little underwhelming overall, Seville doesn’t have much to see from a height, and various roof top bars would have given you the same expierience. Not a lot of money for a solo traveller but would add up for a family of 4. Queueing process was easy as can be, and all the staff I interacted with were super friendly as well. After reading various bits online I deliberately chose to go when the sun set which was the correct advise. What I would say is a lot of people obviously did the same, it was quite busy, and had to navigate around people taking photographs for social media. Obviously had to make changes due to the visitor numbers, I had read was wooden built, not that you would know that now.

A beautiful palace which was a residence of royalty. Kept very clean and well presented. The gardens are a haven and a wonderful place to sit and take in the atmosphere. Must have been a special place to live in. It's a quiet place in comparison to the more well known tourist sites so makes for a relaxing excursion. The audio guide is good. The information cards were faded, especially the English writing which was printed in a light colour while the Spanish one was in black ink. Made them much harder to read, especially if youre "mature" with eyes that arent the sharpest. Walkable from the main sites in the centre of Seville. Great place to visit and to get away from the hordes of tourists

Give yourself at least 2 hours to explore this place. You can access the free audio guide on your device and head phone at the entrance from scanning the QR code provided. If you come here during late spring like us, you will see all these beautiful flowers and the smell of the orange trees is divine. The audio guide is very useful and clear by taking you through every single part of the Palacio accessible for guests. Enjoy the tour and take in this wonderful building as a part of your trip to Seville. A must visit!

My daughter and I loved this. Coming from London this was very much affordable, about £15pp. They had a great selection of fish and a smallish gift shop at the end. Is recommend.

A somewhat small but stunning collection of aquatic life from around the globe. A lot of the tanks/enclosures seemed a little small but all animals looked incredibly healthy and well cared for with plenty of enrichment. They also have plenty of promotion for environmental preservation etc which is lovely to see

Parking garage on-site; beautifully done aquarium and the animals all housed appropriately. We enjoyed the exhibits and displays were in Spanish & English.

We visited the aquarium in Seville and while it’s not extremely spectacular, it’s definitely a great attraction for children. The highlight is one large main tank, which really makes an impression. You can walk around it from several sides and see sharks, turtles and rays. There are a few spots where you can get very close to the glass and see the animals just centimeters away, which kids will absolutely love. Parking was very convenient — we found a nearby parking lot via Google Maps and reached the entrance in one or two minutes. The ticket price feels fair for what’s offered, and the entire place is stroller-friendly. I’m taking one star off because of an unpleasant situation near the reception area. There was a restroom that wasn’t clearly marked as staff-only, and when my wife tried to use it, a staff member reacted by shouting at her. This could definitely have been handled in a much more polite and guest-friendly way. Overall, we still recommend this aquarium, especially for families with children.

Great family visit to the Acuario de Sevilla. The huge shark tank was a standout, and the anaconda snakes were a fun surprise. We also enjoyed the behind-the-scenes jellyfish area, which felt unique and educational. Recommend for families with kids. It’s fun, engaging, and easy to explore.

The Plaza de España is flanked by two glorious towers, and this is the South Tower. Take a few minutes to appreciate their design. Decorating the red brick are ceramic tiles that have been glazed and intricately painted. They are called azulejos, derived from an Arabic word meaning polished stone. Seville has been a famous manufacturer of these tiles since the 13th century. They are a common element in Spanish and Portuguese architecture. The façade of the South Tower is also beautified with Corinthian columns and pilasters, dentil molding and spires. Visitors can explore its beautiful surroundings and enjoy panoramic views of the Plaza.

A truly stunning place to visit. Head up the stairs for better views. The tile features of different cities are a delight. Worth a visit.

Beautiful place, but there was a big stage in the middle for Iconica Sevilla fete, so it covered a lot of the Plaza de España. It was closed to go up, but still a must visit place. Free to visit.
Jo Arbolado★★★★★
So beautiful, although there was an event stage in the middle. Please buy watercolor paintings from the artist sitting next to the plaza. He is really good and dedicated on his masterpiece. He made me a nice piece of art that I requested. Thanks to him.

The southern tower of these 2 imposing towers at the side of this masterpiece of Architecture. All Plaza de Espana is an amazing masterpiece of Architecture, one of the top 3 most beautiful and interesting landmarks in Sevilla and probably one of the top 10 in all Spain. Once there we felt we had to be back several times and at different times of the day and especially at night to fully enjoy it, just take a look at the pictures. And...do not miss it.

Wandering through the old town, or Santa Cruz neighborhood, we visited this square, although the locals say it's not a square, but rather a widening of the street. We were lucky to visit and admire it; it's a place not often visited by tourists. In this "square," there are also other crucifixes, like the two wooden crosses embedded in one of the building's facades. As I later learned, these crosses were placed there around the 15th century and have become a symbol of this neighborhood.

Essential Tips for Visiting Attractions Near Plaza de España

To make the most of your time around this historic hub, a little local knowledge goes a long way. Seville’s climate, cultural timing, and ticketing systems can be challenging for first-time visitors, but a few practical strategies will dramatically improve your experience. The following advice is designed to help you navigate the area like a seasoned traveler, saving you money, time, and unnecessary stress during your day of sightseeing.

  • Start Early to Beat the Heat: During the summer months (June to September), temperatures often exceed 35°C (95°F) by noon. Begin your day at Plaza de España at 9:00 AM and explore outdoor spaces like María Luisa Park before the midday sun. This also allows you to capture photos of the plaza without large crowds.
  • Book Tickets in Advance for the Alcázar: The Royal Alcázar of Seville is one of the most popular attractions in Spain and often has queues that stretch for over an hour. Purchase your tickets online before your trip and select an entry time that aligns with your visit to the plaza to avoid wasting valuable vacation time waiting in line.
  • Wear Comfortable, Non-Slip Footwear: The area surrounding Plaza de España features a mix of cobblestones, polished marble, and sandy park paths. You will likely walk several kilometers, so supportive shoes with good grip are essential for navigating the varied terrain safely and comfortably.
  • Carry Water and Use the Public Fountains: While there are cafes near the plaza, prices are high and seating is limited. Bring a reusable water bottle; Seville has numerous public drinking fountains, particularly within María Luisa Park, where you can refill for free to stay hydrated throughout the day.
  • Utilize the Tram for River Connections: If you plan to visit attractions across the river in Triana or along the Paseo de Cristóbal Colón, use the T1 tram service. The "Prado de San Sebastián" stop is just a short walk from the north side of Plaza de España and offers a cheap, air-conditioned escape from the heat.
  • Respect the Siesta Hours: Many smaller museums, shops, and even some churches near the old town close between 2:00 PM and 5:00 PM. Plan to visit outdoor attractions like the parks or the riverfront during this window, or stop for a long, leisurely lunch at a local tapas bar to recharge.

Exploring the area surrounding Plaza de España offers a perfect blend of architectural wonder and local culture. By pacing yourself and following the tips above, you will transition smoothly from the grandeur of the 1929 exposition grounds to the authentic, everyday rhythms of Seville. Whether you spend your afternoon rowing a boat in the plaza’s canal or getting lost in the maze of the old Jewish quarter, this part of the city is sure to leave a lasting impression.

As the sun begins to set, consider returning to the vicinity of the plaza to see it illuminated against the twilight sky. The changing light brings out the warmth of the brick and tile work, offering a completely different perspective from the bright daylight hours. It is the perfect way to end a day of discovery in one of Spain’s most enchanting cities.
