12 Best Supermarkets in Toulouse

Finding the right supermarket in Toulouse can shape your weekly routine, whether you are stocking up a family kitchen, hunting for organic produce, or simply grabbing a late-night snack after exploring the Ville Rose. The city offers a surprisingly diverse grocery landscape, ranging from sprawling hypermarkets on the outskirts to compact urban express stores tucked into historic streets.

Navigating this mix requires knowing which stores excel in price, freshness, and convenience. While international chains have a strong presence, regional cooperatives and specialty grocers often provide the best quality when it comes to local cheeses, wines, and produce from the Occitanie region.

In this guide, we focus on practical value: where to find the best parking, which locations offer the finest bakery sections, and how to balance your budget without sacrificing quality. We have evaluated these stores based on product range, price-to-quality ratio, and the overall shopping experience.

Whether you are a new resident settling into neighborhoods like Saint-Cyprien or a visitor staying in an Airbnb near Capitole, this list will help you shop like a local. From hypermarkets that sell everything from tires to truffles, to neighborhood markets that prioritize organic farming, there is a perfect fit for every lifestyle.

Below, you will find the essential supermarkets that define the grocery scene in the Pink City.

Don't waste your time and money here. Employees get annoyed with customers to chat among themselves. LOL I met a super disrespectful employee at the self-scan today. Why do you have to fling a bag at a customer? Just because you had to cancel it twice?? Is that what you get paid for? It was absolutely inappropriate and unacceptable. I'm sure it happend because you didn't pay attention properly. I don't speak French, so I just tried to be nice, and she took advantage of it. I was in a hurry and I didn't want to miss the subway, so I couldn't defend myself or complain at the time. Shame on you!

Unorganized!! I always go shopping at Auchan Balma Gramot, and here is not comparable to that. The prices are much higher than balma. However the staff were kind.

Arrêtez de détruire la planète s'il vous plaît avec les gants jetables! Good supermarket but I am taking off two stars because they have just introduced single-use plastic gloves for handling fruit. There is no scientific health benefit from these non-sterile plastics, but we can be sure they increase the amount of microplastics in the sea and rivers. If Auchan doesn't reconsider, I will continue to reduce the number of stars.

Can you confirm you will be open this Sunday, April 20? I am arriving at Toulouse airport at about 11am and would like to buy groceries as soon as possible. Thanks John

Large supermarket, plenty of fresh food and good prices. Convenient location and opening hours. No tofu in stock, but that’s a good reason to support the new little bio shop around the corner. Auchan selection of spices and chillies has improved. When I had mobility issues I notice that trolleys often become unavailable near the entrance of shop. But staff were kind. Update: you can photocopy and buy stamps and mail international letters. NB: the hours of opening for Post Relay are less than the supermarket. Weekday Post Relay hours (today): 10-19h with an hour break in service from 13-14h. Saturday 9-13h. Sameday pickup for post: noon weekdays, 11h Saturday.

It's the biggest shopping for our daily needs. Almost every retail products especially food can be found here. There's a lot of varieties too. Th only problem they have is less cashier. Sometimes people need to wait for 20 to 30 mins just to pay. Otherwise, it's great.

Smelly, very dirty, chaotic and warm. While the range of products available is good, there is very little logic in how the store is organised. There was rotting fruit (and the smell of rotting fruit), shelves are dirty and the entire store gives a dirty / smelly / run down impression. The entrance of the mall is also surrounded by drug addicts so overall I would not recommend this store.
Aditya Soni★★★★★
Market is great here at Toulous.. Colourful buildings, narrow pathways, people's enjoying their meals together... Days are longer... A bit strange to see market getting closed during day time...
Madina W★★☆☆☆
ROTTEN BEEF. It was the second time I bought meat in the market and it was rotten. First time when I bought it it was getting dark on top. I thought it happened because of the air but when I opened the package the smell was bad. Recently I bought beef again and it said that it would expire on April 27th. I tried to cook it on the 24th. Before cooking meat was in the freezer! It looked red on the outside but dark inside. It smelled bad. I didnt risk and threw it away. Another 10 euros wasted! Will never buy meat in this store again! P.S. I often see rotten meat on the shelves covered in mold in this store.

Carrefour @compans located at a dynamic location. Flour sugar and sweetner shelves can be improved. There was a damaged wine bottle on the ground took more than 2 hours to clear the dampness. Room for Improvements. overall above average.

The supermarket is perfectly sized and has a wide range of products. The prices are ok, considering its location. The staff seems to be continuously changing, but the service is fairly normal, nothing particularly exciting nor bad to be noted. On the other hand, I too purchased rotten chicken there, like others in previous comments. We all seem to not have had issues with beef nor pork though, so I'm inclined to think it might be more of a problem with the chicken raiser/packer/distributor/ transporter than a problem of the U Supermarket itself. Therefore, I suggest the supermarket starts checking with the poltry suppliers what is the matter with the meat they offer and do proactive quality control of their product.
Larry Brennan★★★★☆
Surprisingly useful. It seems like nothing much when you walk through the door, but it really shines when you get to the dry goods area. They have things I've been looking for for a while like large cans of whole peeled tomatoes and Tabasco sauce. They even have catnip!
Peter Freeman★★★★★
Medium sized supermarket next to the pont neuf you will find all the cool beverages you need on a warm summers day or nice evening as you watch the sunset from the bridge. They also have a salad bar and a surprisingly fresh and abundant fresh produce section.

I visit this place regularly for the last two years (I live within two minutes walking)... In the beginning, I felt like they were profiling me by following me or asking to check my bag or stroller! It was very insulting! Thankfully, I think they've finally started to recognize me as a frequent shopper and the staff is much friendlier and accommodating now.

I want the cashier's to be patient with foreigners who couldn't speak french good even when it is crowded. The cashier spoke English.. but i felt it was a little bit harsh.. may be it was her slang.. but she could have told with a smile and politely... But i understand her feel with the crowd and i support her...

Small(ish) grocery store and it has most essentials for putting together a decent meal I suppose, as long as you’re not Celiac. However there are no gluten-free breads available. BUT to be fair…there were no gluten free breads available in any of the 5 stores I visited in Toulouse. I even went to 2 pharmacies, but the two pharmacies I visited in Toulouse, the guy behind the counter looked confused as to why would I be looking for bread in a pharmacy. Valid point! BUT… we have previously found gluten free bread in the pharmacies in Spain and Germany.

This is the closest grocery to me and so I prob go here 3x a week for either groceries or picking up/returning packages. It is great that I can take care of packages in the same trip as groceries. They keep the store very clean and are constantly restocking. Service is top. They are quick to call more employees to the cash registers if needed and will go back and forth between registers to reduce the wait time while the person before bags. This also allows for better social distancing. I always see them in masks and frequently cleaning their hands which is essential right now.

Convenient supermarket located in the heart of Toulouse. While smaller in size due to its city location, I found the selection suited my needs as I was staying for the weekend in an apartment hotel nearby. Was enamored with the large selection of inexpensive French cheeses and charcuterie. Even the baguettes were great, though I know I probably should have went to buy one at a boulangerie instead. I still found the quality to be pretty good to what I find in the US. Checkout was interesting. I did self checkout and you need to scan all items and pay before bagging them. Overall, I found this supermarket to be convenient and good for tourists staying nearby and looking to grab a few groceries.
E. Vasco★★★★☆
It might be the cheapest supermarket in the hypercenter, and it has a wide selection of products. I usually go there because my little dog is allowed to shop with me. Being a pet-friendly business is definitely a plus. On the donwnside, it's gets overcrowded sometimes, in those days, the supermarkter isn't the tidiest/cleanest of places, and the staff isn't particularly nice.
Olivier Rozario★★★★☆
Toulouse boulevard de Strasbourg Intermarché very good. Sunday also open this shop. Price quite high sometimes. Service excellent.
Gene Cooperman★☆☆☆☆
Reasonable selection for reasonable price. But I recently lost 10 euros there. I was owed 40 euros change from a 50 euro bill. The cashier gave me some 10 euro bills that had previously been tightly folded together into quarters, with only a quarter of the top bill showing. No time to unfold it and then count it, with customers waiting. There were 3 ten euro bills there instead of 4, when I later counted. I suspect the cashier detected my American accent. I called up the store later and explained in my adequate French. They took my name and phone number and I dictated the code at the bottom of the cash register receipt so that they could trace everything, but they did not offer to reimburse me. It's been a week now and no reimbursement. Buyer beware. Count your change before you leave the store.
Turan Burak Yeşilyurt★☆☆☆☆
When I go to express cashier area to pay and buy sth, the guy said "I need to check your bag". For what? If you are not looking like France or European people, they are checking your bag. It was my worst shopping experience in Toulouse.

Tips for Shopping at Supermarkets in Toulouse

To make your grocery shopping in Toulouse as efficient and enjoyable as possible, it helps to understand a few local nuances. The rhythm of the city, the layout of the stores, and the payment methods can differ slightly from what you might expect in other parts of the world. Here are some essential strategies to save money and time while navigating the aisles.

Bring Your Own Bags and Weigh Your Produce
Plastic bags are rarely free in France, and Toulouse is no exception. Keep a few sturdy reusable bags in your car or backpack. Additionally, in most large supermarkets, you are required to weigh your fruits and vegetables yourself using the scales in the produce section. Print the sticker and place it on the bag before heading to the cashier to avoid delays at checkout.

Understand the "Drive" System
Many large hypermarkets on the outskirts of Toulouse offer a "Drive" service. This allows you to order your groceries online and pick them up at a designated warehouse bay without leaving your car. It is a massive time-saver for busy families. Even if you prefer shopping in person, knowing the layout of these pickup zones can help you avoid traffic congestion in the parking lots during peak hours.

Shop the Periphery for Freshness
Like most grocery stores, the freshest items—bakery, produce, dairy, and meat—are located along the outer walls of the store. The center aisles are for processed and shelf-stable goods. If you want the best baguette or the freshest local cheese, stick to the perimeter and look for labels indicating "Produit en Occitanie" or "Origine France."

Time Your Visit Strategically
Toulouse supermarkets are notoriously busy on Saturday mornings and between 5:00 PM and 7:00 PM on weekdays. If you want a calmer experience, go during lunch hours (12:00 PM to 2:00 PM) or late in the evening. Note that many stores close for a few hours on Sunday afternoon, so plan your weekend shopping for Sunday morning if you need to restock.

Look for Regional Specialties
Don’t just buy generic brands. Even in large chain supermarkets, there is usually a dedicated aisle or endcap for regional products. Look for Cassoulet from Castelnaudary, Violet-flavored sweets, and local wines from Fronton or Gaillac. These items are often priced reasonably in supermarkets compared to tourist shops in the city center.

The grocery culture in Toulouse is a blend of efficiency and gastronomic pride. By choosing the right store for your specific needs—whether it is a quick urban dash or a bulk weekly stock-up—you can significantly improve the quality of your meals and reduce your stress levels. Take the time to explore a few different options on this list to find the one that feels most like home.
