Annecyβs culinary identity is often defined by its breathtaking alpine lake and Savoyard comfort food, but the cityβs Italian dining scene has quietly become one of the most exciting in the French Alps. From wood-fired Neapolitan pizzas to handmade pasta tossed with truffle cream, the βVenice of the Alpsβ offers a surprisingly authentic taste of Italy just steps from the Thiou canals.
Whether you are wandering through the pastel-colored streets of the Vieille Ville or enjoying a lakeside evening in the PΓ’quier district, there is an Italian table waiting for you. The proximity to the Swiss and Italian borders brings a wave of culinary influence that local chefs have embraced with passion, using both imported Italian staples and fresh regional produce.
Finding the right spot can be overwhelming, especially during the busy summer tourist season when every terrace looks inviting. You want more than just a tourist trap; you need a place where the dough ferments for 48 hours, the mozzarella is flown in from Campania, and the service makes you feel like family.
We have analyzed local reputations, ingredient sourcing, and consistency of execution to bring you a curated list that balances old-school trattorias with modern, design-forward pizzerias. Whether you are craving a romantic dinner for two, a lively family gathering, or a quick but high-quality lunch, this guide covers the full spectrum of Annecyβs Italian landscape.
Before you book a table, it helps to know what makes these establishments stand out. We have focused on restaurants that offer not only excellent food but also the unique ambiance that defines dining in this stunning lakeside city.
Below is our carefully selected list of the best Italian restaurants currently operating in Annecy.

I had an absolutely wonderful experience at this Italian restaurant! From the moment I walked in, the atmosphere felt warm and inviting, with cozy lighting and charming dΓ©cor that made it perfect for a relaxed evening out.

The staff here are lovely and incredibly helpful. The food, however, does not stand up to the ratings that I saw online. I have had pinsa at many other restaurants and never once did it come out ice cold. I got the impression that the crusts were made earlier in the day or the day before, and they couldnβt even be bothered to reheat them before putting toppings on them. The toppings were creative, but considering I felt like I was eating yesterdayβs pizza, the prices were certainly too high for what was on offer. The grissini are beautiful to look at, but tasteless. I brought three kids with me and felt really bad that they were eating basically cold salami on less-than-fresh pinsa crust. I left a tip for the server because it wasnβt their fault but honestly, this place does not come close to being as good as people say. I was shocked.

Pinza is absolutely exceptional! π€© The ingredients are fresh and perfectly combined for a fantastic taste experience. The wine is delicious, and the service is kind, friendly, smiley, and cozy. The only minor comment is on the glasses used for digestives, as their policy is to use the same as wine glasses, which is a bit of a shame. Otherwise, we'll be back again and again! We just won't be ordering digestives. π

The Pizza was very good, one of the best pizza spots in Anncey. (Not my favorite one but still very good)
The location is great, in the middle of the old city, can get very crowded and noisy so take that into account if u don't like noise.
There are a variety of choices in the menu and we all like our pizzas, so would say great.
The dough is perfect with a very nice crust.
There is an outside as well as inside sitting area.

Could be really good, but definitely not for vegans. The focaccia itself was so good, but the vegan option is basically paying for the non vegan option with meat and cheese, choosing not to have meat and cheese, and then paying more if you want to add something else to the otherwise plain 2 ingredients sandwich. So at the end: one sandwich with only avocado, tomatoes, salad and cucumber ended up cost 2 euros more than the one with meat and cheese.

I was quite surprised to see such a high review and such disappointing dishes (for me, at least). I had a salad for the appetizer, but the ingredients didn't mix well together. There was asparagus, radish (with almost no taste), sun dried tomato (tastiest in the dish) and some olives, plus yogurt. I didn't like it.
Then, for the main, I had fish with asparagus. It was tasteless. I was completely disappointed by this experience.
On the other hand, the service was really nice. Kudos for that

Itβs good pizza but a bit disappointed after I was told the chef/owner (the Italian guy in the kitchen) was from Naples. For starters the margherita was a bit heavy on the cheese and didnβt really look like some of the margheritas I saw in the photos. The pizza is good, nice tasty tomato sauce. But Iβve definitely had better, again for the marghertia I was served, a bit more cheese than I would prefer. But if youβre hungry itβs great food. I took my food to go so I canβt comment on the service.

Fantastic pizza. We sat outside and itβs not the most fashionable restaurant in Annecy, but the pizza is very very good. We had one of the cheaper options whose name escapes me, basically a slightly spicy one. There was loads of cheese and topping , pizza base was thin in the middle and crispy and fuller at the edges but not too much. For me a really good combination. Seems the owner is Italian, looks like they slice their sausage/hams in house. Lovely waitress who was run off her feet on the night of the France v Senegal match.
We queued for 10 mins but it was worth it. Itβs good value for money and very tasty. Recommended.
Ps. We had a cheap bottle of primativo that complemented the pizza and was delicious and value for money too. If you like pizza β¦ itβs a hit

We had a lovely dinner on the terrace! The outside area is quiet enough, but gives you a beautiful view and atmosphere! The pizza is fantastic! One of the best pizzas outside of Italy! When I first saw the location of this place in the center of Annecy, I was fully clenched and preparing to be tourist trapped.
I was surprised to see that in terms of quality, the food was quite nice and the staff was actually polite and patient.
I'm so used to horrible quality food from rude staff in these central tourist locations that I just had to come write a review and let people know this is a good option for the area. Mind you, we did speak French so perhaps we didn't get the full tourist experience.

We had a Pizza and the risotto. The Pizza was absolutely exquisite. Thin base and thick crust. The risotto was good but it was amazing for a vegan option especially considering the consistency. Terrible experience! Very far from
Italian restaurant!
The guy with glasses ( the waiter) was very arrogant and not friendly with me from the beginning. I just asked to change my wine for another one as I didnβt like the taste of wine and he said me if u choose another itβs same. When I asked him to see the bottle, he said me we donβt show it in France how we put the wine. I said Iβm from Paris and he said me: In Paris yes, but in Annecy we donβt fill from the bottle in front of the client. So he didnβt change my wine.
Then I ordered the pizza and he said - Are u sure u like it? I said - yes, if itβs really Italian pizza, sure I would appreciate that. Iβm sorry I came by taxi to your Italian restaurant because it was 4.9 in google and itβs not the service I deserve.
The pizza arrived not in Italian pastry, very dry, not a lot of cheese. Very far from real Italian one. I was living in Italy and know well what is Italian pizza. Plus on the top of it over roasted.
The view was on garbage to enjoy the smell during romantic dinner and wasps around.

A great Italian trattoria serving traditional Italian dishes. Far from the tourist hustle and bustle of Annecy city center. Modern decor, super friendly service, and a lovely outdoor terrace with a view in warm weather. My wife and I came across this place by accident when our initial dinner plans fell through and I am so glad we did. It was definitely the best meal we had in Annecy.
It's a small place and the patio where we sat had a lot of charm. The waiter was extremely personable and knowledgeable about the menu and its dishes. From the patio we had front row seats into the kitchen where a master solo chef was making everything to order. There was a separate bar tender handling drinks. The small crew seemed friendly with each other and it gave the whole restaurant an understated, family-run vibe which was very welcome in a town so focused on tourists. Our service was perfectly paced and attentive and we left full.
The whole meal was good but I am writing this review because of how good the gnocchi with cream sauce and guancaile was. The gnocchi themselves were big which made them perfect for mopping up the peccarino sauce. This sauce was incredible and everything you could possibly want from a white sauce. Creamy, cheesy, salty, fatty with a little tang and lots of umami. We were only in Annecy for 2 nights but nearly came back the second because it was so good.
We also had a delicious lemon ricotta appetizer as well as anancini which we devoured. For mains I got what was called a "bread" (think meatloaf) with beef & veal plus a really good red sauce. But to be honest once I tasted that cream sauce that was all I wanted to eat.
Only regret we have is that we were too full for dessert. I'm sure it would have been amazing.
If I'm ever back in Annecy (fingers crossed), this will be my first meal!

An excellent spot in Annecy!
We had a fantastic time at Bella Ciao. The staff is welcoming and friendly, and the food is truly perfect.
Special mention for the pizzas: they are exactly as they should beβauthentic, generous, and above all, made to be eaten and enjoyed, not just to look pretty on Instagram! It's sadly becoming rare to find truly good pizzas that prioritize taste and quality over appearance.
And let's talk about the Aperol Spritzβfinally, a real Spritz, perfectly balanced and generous! Unlike many places in Annecy where they're rather stingy with the Aperol, here you really get your money's worth.
I highly recommend Bella Ciao for the quality of the food, the authenticity of the pizzas, the welcome, and the atmosphere. It's a place I'll keep in mind and return to with great pleasure!
Well done to the whole team, and thank you for this wonderful experience!

A very, very good Italian restaurant. The waiter is friendly, welcoming, and always smiling. The chef, who is Italian, is very kind and comes to the table to ask about the dishes.
The quality/price ratio is excellent.
We thoroughly enjoyed our meal!
Highly recommended!

How to Choose the Right Italian Restaurant in Annecy
Selecting the perfect spot involves more than just scanning a menu. The difference between a mediocre meal and an unforgettable experience often comes down to a few practical details that locals know well. Use these expert tips to ensure your Italian meal in Annecy meets your expectations, whether you are a visiting foodie or a long-time resident looking for a new favorite.
Book ahead during peak season. Annecy is one of Franceβs most visited cities, and the best Italian tables fill up days in advance, especially on weekends from June through September. If you have your heart set on a specific restaurant, call or reserve online at least 48 hours before your visit. Walk-ins are possible for lunch on weekdays, but dinner service is almost always fully booked.
Look beyond the lakefront terraces. While dining with a view of Lake Annecy is magical, the restaurants directly on the main tourist thoroughfares often prioritize volume over quality. Some of the most authentic Italian kitchens are tucked away on side streets in the old town or in residential neighborhoods like Cran-Gevrier. You will often find better prices and more attentive service just a five-minute walk from the water.
Ask about the flour and the oven. A truly great pizzeria will be proud to tell you about their dough. Look for terms like βbiga,β β48-hour fermentation,β or βstone-milled flourβ on the menu or ask your server. A wood-fired oven that reaches at least 400Β°C is non-negotiable for that leopard-spotted, puffy crust that defines authentic Neapolitan pizza. If a restaurant cannot answer these questions, the pizza is likely an afterthought.
Check the pasta-making process. The best Italian restaurants in Annecy make their pasta in-house daily. Fresh tagliatelle, ravioli, and gnocchi should have a delicate, slightly rough texture that clings to sauce. If the menu lists βpasta fresca fatta in casaβ or the staff can tell you which shapes are made that morning, you are in the right place. Dry pasta is acceptable for certain dishes like carbonara or amatriciana, but it should be imported from reputable Italian brands.
Respect the Italian dining rhythm. Italian restaurants in France often operate on slightly different hours than traditional French brasseries. Many pizzerias close between lunch and dinner service, reopening around 7:00 PM. Arriving at 6:00 PM for an early dinner may leave you waiting outside. Conversely, Italians eat later, so a 9:00 PM reservation often gives you a more relaxed, authentic atmosphere with fewer tourists.
Donβt skip the antipasti and desserts. A common mistake is filling up on bread and pizza while ignoring the starters and sweets. The quality of a restaurantβs burrata, arancini, or vitello tonnato tells you a lot about their ingredient sourcing. Likewise, a house-made tiramisu or panna cotta is the mark of a kitchen that cares about the full dining experience, not just the main course.
Annecyβs Italian restaurant scene continues to evolve, with new openings and chef-driven concepts appearing each year. What remains constant is the cityβs ability to blend French alpine charm with the warmth and generosity of Italian hospitality. Whether you choose a bustling pizzeria in the old town or a refined pasta bar near the lake, you are in for a meal that honors both tradition and local character.
The next time you find yourself strolling along the Thiou or watching the sunset paint the mountains pink, let your appetite lead you to one of these exceptional Italian tables. Buon appetito.
