Annecy is often called the “Venice of the Alps,” but its appeal goes far beyond the postcard-perfect canals and the crystal-clear lake. It is a city where Savoyard tradition meets a vibrant, modern food scene, and where eating well does not require a reservation at a Michelin-starred table.
For visitors and locals alike, the real challenge is finding a meal that feels authentic, satisfying, and fairly priced in a city that has become one of France’s most popular destinations. The good news is that Annecy is full of hidden gems, from tiny bistros tucked down medieval passageways to lively crêperies and family-run bakeries.
This guide focuses on the best affordable restaurants in Annecy, where you can enjoy generous portions, local ingredients, and warm service without breaking your travel budget. Every recommendation has been chosen for its consistency, value for money, and genuine connection to the region’s culinary identity.
Whether you are looking for a quick lunch between sightseeing stops, a cozy dinner after a day on the lake, or a casual spot to try fondue without the formal atmosphere, you will find an option that fits. The goal is to help you eat like a local, not a tourist, while keeping your wallet happy.
Below, you will find a carefully curated list of restaurants that prove affordable dining in Annecy can still be memorable, delicious, and deeply rooted in the Alps.

We had an open sandwich and the tartliflette. Very friendly staff and good place to watch everyone go by whilst you ate.

This is a cute & cozy place. We were greeted with a warm smile for dinner at 7 pm. My husband & ordered the sandwich (Pollo Hermano & Itellien).
We were both so full when we were done. The portions are big & served with side salad. The food was served less than 10 mins from the order time.
The decor with pig theme was also cute.

We went here for dinner on a Saturday. It was raining then so we opted to wait for a table to become available inside rather than sit outside. The ambience was quite good and cosy. The owner/manager was very kind and funny. Both my friend and I ordered tartines of different flavors. The quantity was enough and the salad was great. The wine was also nice. It was a quirky place and has a limited menu but I would recommend going here to try it.

We were made to feel like an inconvenience rather than welcome guests. We didn't speak much French and the Mâitre D' made it perfectly clear they don't have a menu in English. So we used Google translate. It was service with a scowl and none of the staff could raise a smile. It was busy and maybe they were under staffed but that's their problem not mine.
The food was mediocre at best. It was cheaper than most, for a reason - it was very average. I had beef in peppercorn sauce. The peppercorn sauce seemed to be totally devoid of peppercorn. A side dish of legumes de jour. That consisted of 3 carrots, sliced lengthways , with an added herb of some description. They were luke warm.
I've had better fries in a Burger King.
The place over the road - the Crazy Clock, had better food and that's just a pub really. I was asked if I wanted to leave a tip !
Yeah. Learn to smile and try to be nice.

We were staying in Old Town Annecy and it definitely wasn’t worth the trip. Looked forward to this all week! Food looks good but taste wise is very very basic. If you’re from the UK, I’d say it’s comparable to The Harvester…. not great

Best meal we had during a holiday to Lyon, Aix Les Bains and Annecy! Food was glorious and not overpriced like a lot of the other places in old town. Small menu but the focus is on a small amount of dishes done very well. Lovely little terrace by the canal but away from the main drag so not overly busy. Service was also wonderful. Amazing food and great value considering the quality.

Super friendly staff, very accomodating. We came with a 1,5 mth old baby.
Food was delicious ! The velouté as a starter was a blast. I could have a gallon of it ! The duck was perfectly cooked
We highly recommend and will be back there as soon as we come back to Annecy !
Ingrid Lau★★★★★
Great, authentic, solid dishes! There were no unnecessary frills, and sauces complemented the mains well (without being overpowering).
Here are our favourites - scallops (cooked to perfection), duck (crispy skins, well balanced flavours), and poached pear (texture nicely done). We hope we will have the opportunity to come again.
Michel Pham★★★★★
A refreshing local and seasonal place among the touristy canal-side restaurants. A dynamic and young team who offers a small menu with local and seasonal ingredients.
The dishes were simple yet delicious and you have a delightful view on the canal. I want to highlight the great and friendly service which rounded up this wonderful culinary moment in Annecy.

One star is for the starter and nice and kind waitress from yesterday.
Please remove Chicken salad from the menu. We ordered Muge, Asparagus and Chicken salad for main courses. Muge fried with too high temperature, can even taste the burning oil taste. Chicken salad means four to five pieces of HARDCUTTING chicken put on salad and drip some sauces with some cheese, perfect. Asparagus got the same problem as the Muge, kill the sweetness from a beautiful green Asparagus, fried oil taste even with Hallandaise sauce.

This place is a GEM 💎. If you come to Annecy make sure to go there for lunch.
Service is outstanding with a dedicated half price menu for kids based on the full size menu. Our daughter took a half sized version of the main dish (fish) and it was wonderful she ate it all.
What a difference compared to French fries and nuggets kid’s menu that other restaurants offer.
Food was delicious with nice flavors and original choices. The chef is really trying to offer something innovative. Dessert was great too. Prices are not high at all for what you eat.
Atmosphere was calm but cosy, location is great (even if you come by car or bike).
Truly recommended.
One small improvement : get an ikea baby chair for littlies.

I don’t get how this place wasn’t full — everything was amazing. Super friendly staff, really fast service, and the food was just excellent. We had the minestrone and a pea tartlette with fish from Lake Leman to start, then veal and fish for the mains, and a fantastic dessert. Everything tasted great and they use local products which is awesome. Great wine selection too, and prices were very reasonable. Highly recommend!

I don’t remember if I ever posted a negative review of a restaurant anywhere in any country I traveled to. There were restaurants with mediocre food and service I encountered, but never disrespectful. This would be my first. My family (two children, my wife and I) went to this restaurant to have lunch. Out of many places around we chose this one based on the excellent reviews. We came 15 minutes before the restaurant opened and waited to be seated. The young lady seated us and took our order. Then the circus started. My wife was not hungry and just wanted water. The young lady became very frustrated and told us that all of us must order food because the restaurant needs to survive. This is not a joke. I did not hear this since the waitress had a very heavy accent in English. It was my wife and daughters that heard it. Who in the world talks to their customers like that. The waitress was visibly frustrated and really did not have any desire to deal with us. The food was decent though. If the owner reads this, please understand that treating your guests like this is the same as spitting in their plate. I regret very much not walking away. Stay away from this place. It’s not worth being fed and humiliated at the same time. I attached my card statement as proof so nobody thinks this is some kind of competition revenge or fake review.

Wonderful plat du jour. exquisite presentation and imaginative use of ingredients. The maki fusion starter was light and flavoursome as was the hake main with capers and green beans. Very reasonable for 27e, and good selection of wine by glass. Highly recommend for lunch or dinner. Attentive staff yet not rushed. Also air conditioned which helped on a very hot day

We wandered into La Cabane hoping for a break from the endless cheese parade that France has thus offered—and miracles do exist! The service was so wonderful we half-expected them to tuck us in for a nap afterwards. The food? Solid. Duck and carrots three ways, because apparently one way of carrots just isn’t dramatic enough.
Our stomachs appreciated the cheese vacation, though I swear the fondue at the next table was silently judging us. Highly recommend if you need proof that French cuisine can survive without smothering everything in fromage.
Recommend would go again.

We enjoyed the food here, especially the octopus and the tartiflette. The staff was friendly and the place has a good vibe.

During the chiller nights, it was terrific to find a spot inside LA Cabane. The cozy table by the front window was perfect. Having Vegan options on the menue was a welcoming addition to our heavy diet while on vacation. The quinoa, red beans, pepers, purple cabbage, etc bowl was fantastic. Very filling! I'd wanted the Buddha Bowl, since I was desiring something warm. Our terrific waitress asked the chef to make an exception for me unprompted. I was grateful. I ordered the sweet potato fries on the side! Dessert was tasty too! I disnt know there was a whole cozy room upstairs too, till I went up and used the water closet. The wood branches and log slices on the walls were a wonderful decor choice that made the whole experience that much better!

Absolute banger of a sandwich! Super friendly staff too! Perfect for taking to the lake.

Could be really good, but definitely not for vegans. The focaccia itself was so good, but the vegan option is basically paying for the non vegan option with meat and cheese, choosing not to have meat and cheese, and then paying more if you want to add something else to the otherwise plain 2 ingredients sandwich. So at the end: one sandwich with only avocado, tomatoes, salad and cucumber ended up cost 2 euros more than the one with meat and cheese.

Amazing! Just amazing!!!! ✅✅✅ tried both the raclette and tartiflette. I will go back tomorrow again for sure 🤩

Lovely little shop under an archway. Saw a few people ordering their tartiflette (a Savoyard dish with potatoes, lardon, cheese and onions) and their hot wine, but opted for a raclette sandwich with diot (savoyard sausage).
The sandwich was huge, and came with a generous heaping of melted cheese. It also comes with vegetable and sauce toppings (like Subway). I went with the miel (honey) topping, with cornichons and tomato. It was absolutely delicious, and the baguette was crispy but not too hard.
If the weather permits, a bridge with a gorgeous view is right next to the shop, and makes for a lovely setting for a bite!
The place is quite busy, so do prepare to wait a while.
Edit: Came back again to try a sandwich with Raclette and Ham! Still delicious, but I personally prefer the one with diot!
Georgia★★★★★
Had a small line but worth it! The cooked ham and raclette cheese sandwich was amazing. They are also huge so you could share 1 sandwich

Great Vibe and Cocktails, But Service Missteps and Cooking Accuracy Need Work
We recently dined at Chez Ingalls in Annecy, and while the restaurant has a lot going for it conceptually, a few key execution errors held the experience back from being truly great.
On the positive side, the atmosphere is fantastic, especially with the charming, tucked-away courtyard entrance and cozy wooden interior. The cocktail program is excellent—the drinks were well-crafted, balanced, and beautifully presented. Additionally, their wine selection is extensive and offers some great regional choices that pair nicely with the traditional menu.
However, the main courses and the service left room for improvement. I ordered the steak requested at medium, but it was served rare. While the quality of the meat was clearly there, the execution on the temperature was off.
The biggest detractor from our evening was the service. While navigating the seating area, our waitress physically pushed my arm against the chair to move past. It actually hurt, but what was most disappointing was that she didn’t even offer a brief apology or acknowledge it before moving on.
Chez Ingalls has all the ingredients for a top-tier dining experience in Annecy—the ambiance, the drinks, and the menu potential are all there. If they can refine their service etiquettes and ensure the kitchen hits requested cooking temperatures, it would easily be a 5-star spot.

Huge restaurant with indoor and covered outdoors area. A reasonable fixed price menu or à la carte options. Service was very good. You can tell the restaurant is a well oiled machine. Food came out quickly and was good - nothing exceptional in terms of taste but a reliable place to eat in Annecy.
Lana Lumi★★★★☆
Everything was great. We had the burgers and the Caesar salad, and both were really good. The staff were polite and everyone spoke English, which made the visit very pleasant. The only thing is that it was a little difficult to quickly understand some of the dishes from the menu, but overall we really enjoyed the experience.
Ruby Lin★★★★☆
Great restaurant and delicious food.
However with a humble suggestion that it might be not so appropriate to collect the leftover in front of customers. We sit right in front of the corner where waiter/ waitress collected leftover and used plates. It is difficult for us to ignore it whenever there is something dumped in front of us. Not just us stared at the pile of leftover but also customer from the other table. Hope this little advice from us would make the overall dining experience better!

This was one of the best overall dining experiences we have had in our travels throughout Europe. From the friendly and attentive staff to the amazing and outstanding food, I cannot think of one thing that could have been better. Even the weather on the outside patio was exceptional. Our server accommodated our very limited French and the sommelier was very helpful with selecting our wine. In addition to ordering a la carte from the menu, they also offered a fixed price option that included starter, main and dessert...which we both chose. The portions were more than enough and the presentations were outstanding...to match the flavor and taste of the food.
The guests all seemed to be French "locals" which added to the ambiance of the evening. This is a "must try" if you are ever in the Annecy France region.
A tad challenging to find if you arrive by Uber (which we did) but well worth the extra effort. Actually located on a terrace up two flights from street level and across a common/public square. A great "find"

Beef tartare with salmon eggs yum! Sea bream ceviche- yum! The set menu of 3 courses for 43 euros in the evening, thumbs up. Clean toilet. When you book through the website, they ask for an eighty Euro credit card deposit. Definitely put it on the gourmet list!

Very nice restaurant on a main walking street, with beautiful old buildings , shops and restaurants.
Pleasant interiors, comfortable seating indoor and outdoor. The downside is the restroom, it’s small and not easily accessible, there are steps and a narrow door.
Very good food, fresh and tasty, in good size portions. We had an embarrassing misunderstanding, we thought we ordered a vegetarian salad, Google Translate had no idea what Rosette is (evidently it’s a French specialty with pork and a lot of fat, not for us).
The server and manager were very professional, kind and understanding. They replaced it with another salad, which was great.
Good restaurant, good food, good people 🙂

The dining room is pleasant, modern, and air-conditioned, making for a comfortable atmosphere. The staff were friendly and the service was good throughout our visit.
Unfortunately, the food was a real disappointment. The menu is quite limited, and while we were there, the people sitting next to us complained that their steak was very tough. I had originally planned to order beef as well, but after hearing their comments I decided to choose pork instead.
The pork was acceptable, but it certainly didn't justify the price. The vegetables served on the side were very bland and lacked any real flavor. The mashed potatoes were also disappointing and, in our opinion, not enjoyable at all. My wife felt exactly the same.
Because of the meal, we decided to skip dessert. While the atmosphere and service deserve credit, the quality of the food simply didn't meet our expectations. Sadly, we don't plan to return.

A wonderful authentic bouchon experience! I had the ravioli with cèpes which was rich, earthy, and perfectly prepared. The oeufs à la neige for dessert were light, delicate, and the perfect way to end the meal. Warm atmosphere and great service. Highly recommended!

Authentic experience with beautiful food. Small menu but something for everyone, I had the fish. Beautiful wine 30euro bottle and dessert exquisite, creme brulee. Felt more authentic and away from tourist treadmill.

This place hits on so many notes. I would give it another try but on the first experience, everything was going great until the main arrived. Service was very nice. The starter was very nice. But we ordered medium rare rib-eyes and they came out solidly in the medium well category. The flavor was there, just overcooked. I will say that steaks seem to be one of the more difficult to get right in Europe. In summary, very nice overall, just missed the temperature.

Bally Mahay★☆☆☆☆
At first glance the place looked great, but when i eventually managed to sit down having ordered a veggie burger and sweet potato fries, i was left with nothing but disappointment. The bun was so hard and rubbery i couldn’t cut through it and eventually gave up and only ate the veggie filing which was minimal and the sweet potato fries were clearly from an over cooked stalk batch which were not worth eating.

This restaurant came highly recommended and they exceeded all expectations! The service and food was incredible and was a great way to end a fabulous 2 week vacation in Europe

A lovely gem in Annecy-le-vieux! Excellent food, including a nice variety for vegetarians, vegans, and meat eaters alike. Tasty, beautifully prepared dishes and attentive service. Highly recommend!

On arrival at the booked time of 13:30h, the welcome was perfunctory: polite, but lacking in any warmth. I tried to order the menu du jour and was informed that only the veggie burger was still available. I would have preferred to have had the risotto, but was happy to try the burger. So, I asked for the burger but without the burger bun, because I am gluten intolerant. I was told in no uncertain terms that that was impossible. On asking why, I was told that serving a burger without the bun would distress the chef! Utterly ridiculous!! Exceptionally pretentious!
I ended-up having just an à la carte main course (for same price as the three-course menu du jour) and then going to a lovely salon de thé in Menthon St Bernard for coffee and cake. Amazingly, the salon de thé was quite capable of adjusting what it serves to meet its clients’ requirements (bravo!).
I will not be visiting Bistrot Green again.
PS Watch out for broken glass on the ground, because the staff don’t seem to feel that it is necessary to tidy up when a client accidentally knocks their glass off their table and it shatters on the ground - which is what happened at the table next to ours! I was surprised that no client cut their foot as they walked over the broken pieces. Not a good approach to client safety.

I had a great time! The charcuterie board was amazing, with a fantastic mix of cheese, meat, and delicious olives. They also have a good selection of wine. The best part, though, was the vibe and the friendly people. It’s a place where you feel welcome and relaxed. Highly recommend it for a fun and enjoyable dining experience!

Tasty steaks & fries! There is a covered outdoor space to sit outside. Only down side is that it took quite some time for the food and drinks to arrive. Otherwise definitely recommending it!

Our hotel could not recommend Chez Pen because they did not know it. Well, they should. Welcoming and friendly (a bit loud, but we are a bit old!). Outstanding lamb shank perfectly cooked (be aware, the portions are huge) and a very good wine list. Lively but also very relaxed, so don't go if in a hurry, but do go for a special experience. Pen is a great host.

Food delicious, drinks also very nice. It’s a restaurant focused on cheese/dairy dishes so expect lots of regional specialties and milk/cheese rich options. We all loved the food. Quality ingredients are used and everything is cooked and presented beautifully.

this place was spectacular. i ate inside and the ambiance was very much mountain like with wood all around and some leather too.
the derive was amazing. the waiter was smiling and polite and gave great recommendations.
i ordered the tartiflette. the portion was very generous and the flavor was out of this world. its a simple plate but the ingredients were extremely fresh.
i wish i had left some space for dessert because the options all sounded amazing. will be back!
Kirsten Millsap★★★★★
The tartiflette was really good, and the bread they brought us was chewy and fresh. I enjoyed the bruschetta that I ordered, which was quite tasty, and really loved the dressing that was on the salad greens. Lovely atmosphere, attentive, and fun server who spoke English quite well. I would love to have tried the raclette— but the day was quite warm, and it seemed a bad idea to bring a large heating element to our table— but we spoke to other diners who did have it, and they said it was fantastic. Maybe next time we visit we will try it!

Our first time trying Savoyard fondue and the experience at Le Freti was nice. We made a reservation prior so we got seated quickly. It was very nice of them to tell us that it's possible to only order 1 pax portion for 2, as we felt that it was just right for us. Everything was amaxing and the atmosphere was calm.

Had dinner with some friends here. Hands down the best restaurant in all of Annecy. The fondue and the raclette were superlative, without even talking about their wine and desserts that were on a league of their own. The atmosphere was amazingly cozy. The staff is super kind and welcoming, we had the pleasure to be served by hadrien, super friendly and helpful. Explained everything about the food and suggested everything when we needed help. I hope to meet him again next time I will be back here.
Smart Tips for Eating Affordably in Annecy
Dining out in Annecy can be surprisingly reasonable if you know how locals approach it. The city’s most expensive tables are often clustered around the busiest tourist corridors, but just a few steps away you will find the places where residents actually eat. Keep these practical strategies in mind, and you will stretch your food budget much further while enjoying better meals.
First, look for the formule du midi at lunchtime. Most restaurants offer a two- or three-course set menu at a fraction of the evening price, often including a starter and main or main and dessert. Second, do not overlook the city’s excellent bakeries and traiteurs, which sell fresh quiches, salads, sandwiches, and Savoyard specialties that make a perfect picnic by the lake. Third, embrace the local custom of ordering a plat du jour, which is usually the freshest and most affordable dish on the menu. Fourth, avoid dining right on the busiest canal-side terraces, where you pay for the view; instead, walk one or two streets back into the old town. Finally, remember that tap water is free and safe to drink in France—simply ask for a carafe d’eau instead of bottled water.
Annecy’s food culture is one of the most rewarding parts of visiting the region, and you do not need a luxury budget to experience it. A simple lunch of local cheese, fresh bread, and a glass of crisp white wine by the water can feel just as special as a formal dinner.
The key is to follow the rhythm of the city: eat early or late, look for the daily specials, and be willing to wander away from the main tourist flow. Do that, and you will discover that the best affordable restaurants in Annecy offer not just good value, but some of the most authentic and satisfying meals in the French Alps.
