Awful food and horrible service. 1. The dishes tasted like frozen meals, yet they were quite expensive. The sauce was bitter due to they added several large pieces of lemon peel, the potatoes were watery, and the chicken was dry and tough on the outside. 2. I waited for nearly half an hour for the food. Afterward, I had to ask for the bill three times. I explicitly informed the server that I had a train to catch, to which he simply replied, 'Pas de souci.' Eventually, he gave me an incorrect number and told me to hand it to his colleague. This led to where multiple staff members had to spend extra time trying to locate our actual bill. Because of this incompetence, I missed my train, and not a single staff member offered an apology. Personally, I didn’t enjoy the experience; however, I would recommend this place to anyone who enjoys chaos and wants to be a part of it.

It is possible to find bad food in France. There are so far as I know only two poorly run restaurants in the country - surely another month and we might have located a few more. Nonetheless, there is a place run by Germans about an hour south of Dijon. But that place is a gastronomic palace compared to the American High-school Cafeteria food this repellent pit of culinary despair purveys.

I very love and trendy places. Good atmosphere and in a central location. The staff were friendly. The food was good and delivered fairly quickly. An item on my order was missed. But luckily we had ordered plenty and portions were generous. Will reccomend to all. Halal food served. Well decorated. Outside seating available.

One day in Lyon. So many places to pick from. This had a large welcoming terrace. We had a fantastic meal. No alcohol. But sometimes You need that after all the wine in France.

It is what people are describing it, great food, lovely service, portions are big! The first choice if you are looking for halal food, definitely worth it. Gaston did great job helping me to choose, well knowledgeable about the menu, he will make your life easy 😅!

Huge disappointment ! We were expecting high quality and fresh food and not dishes with techniques to the detriment of taste. Nice guys serving but with no training. If you are planning to visit that restaurant assuming that it is Paul Bocuse quality change your plan

We just visited this place, ambience was nice, unfortunately the service experience was awful. We were 2 persons and a kid we got a burger and sandwich and finished it without our juice and water served,no food served for my kid he was so hungry so we shared our meal with him.Later he got the pancakes plate and french toast plate I was so disappointed to see the size of it never looked liked freshly fluffy pancakes. The quantity of the food is not worth the price. We pais total almost 80€.However the orange juice was fresh which was served too late so could’nt enjoy it.

Best dinner I had in Lyon! Every dish was fantastic and they had a lot of mocktails to choose from which were phenomenal. Highly recommend this place. Added bonus is the place is halal.
Rafia Bon★☆☆☆☆
The waiter was super friendly, however the quantity and quality of food don't at all match up the price! Food was mostly cold, especially the brioche perdu, which was quite unpleasant. The tea cups are all quite small and again not at all par with the price. Especially compared to our neighbourhood at the pentes de la cx where we have extravagant coffee shops and the price match the quantity and quality! To top it off, the manager of the place completely lost it when we just inquired about the supplement charges for a chai latte. She was enraged that we didn't know how to read the menu and it was all our fault, zero customer relations! Whereas she could've politely explained and offered a coffee to calmly talk over things and also to build loyal customer base. Utterly disappointing..the team looks burned out and very unhappy. Definitely NOT recommended. Overpriced and unfriendly

We had dinner here yesterday. Even though we didn’t have a reservation, the friendly staff managed to find a table for the four of us. We didn’t have to wait to be seated. We ordered a pizza, carbonara, and a panuozzo. The portions were generous, and everything was delicious. The food was excellent. The staff were cheerful, friendly, and very professional. Our waitress spoke excellent English, which I think is a huge advantage in such a popular tourist destination. We highly recommend this place. Even though it gets very busy and you may have to wait for a table, it’s absolutely worth it!

Overall: 9/10 A menu (main + bread) for 17€ Cuisine: 9/10 It’s one of the best Indian restaurants I’ve ever tried in France! Location: Lyon , few minutes walk from Part Dieu Staff and service: 9/10 Very Friendly and welcoming staff! excellent service! Ambiance and setup: 9/10 Very beautiful and comfortable restaurant, they really took care of all details price: 9/10 Fair prices, around 6€ for appetizer, 15€ for a main, 6€ for a delicious drink!

Food is okay, not as tasty as I normally get from Indian restaurants. Service is good though and location is very good. Tight space in the restaurant, and a bit pricey too. Food is not filling for the price.
Sandeep Gupta (sandyish)★★★★☆
Good food and decor. The portions were small for ok for the price. The service was however way poor than what we expected after reading such good reviews. The owner was very good but the staff definitely need some coaching on hospitality.

The ambience was great! Food taste was delicious but pricey for the less quantity. The kulfi dessert was not that great and over priced for a small portion. Mango lassi I highly recommend it. Great place & customer service. Make sure to get a reservation before you go!!

- Great food in the middle of Lyon - halal food with Lahori touch - we couldn’t believe that we’ll find such great food in Lyon - butter chicken, chicken karahi/masala, lamb biryani plus doodh patti was brilliant - extraordinary chakki fresh atta roti was a standout (bit pricey but vacation add on 🙂) - Junaid son of the Owner was extremely helpful - met Mr Ashraf as well who is the owner and founded the place back in 1984

The food is decent, but the quantity is insufficient. It’s extremely expensive for what it is, as we paid ~ 130 € for 4 persons. The restaurant upstairs is a fairly plain and tight space. There are no exceptional flavours, everything is quite simple, and the menu options are few.
VILMA DUCHARNE★★★★☆
Excellent service and great food! The only downside : they didn't have corn tortillas. Otherwise the food was good, the nachos were tasty and the chili con carne was delicious. The waiter asked us what we wanted and brought it back quickly. He was nice and warm. Definitely coming back again when I’ll be living in lyon in 2 years. Of course recommend it.

The food looked very apetizing, and the taste was excellent. The staff were very welcoming and friendly too. The only small downside is the expensive price compared to the serving size.

I have been to several hundred restaurants and have never felt so compelled to write a review until this amazing experience. Let me tell you a story. While my wife and I were searching for a restaurant to have dinner for my birthday while in Lyon, we stumbled upon MOON RESTAURANT. We tried not to have high expectations as we have been to many similarly high rated places in the past that ended up leaving us disappointed, but MOON seemed promising from looking at the photos online. Reservations can be made online, but the system did not accept my non-French phone number so I called to make a reservation and the process could not have been easier. The location is a bit tucked away and not on the main surface street, but took us about 30 seconds to figure out where it was (up the stairs/elevator or across from the entrance to Hotel des Congres). When we arrived, we were greeted almost immediately by a very kind and energetic waitress who offered a few different table choices. There are tables inside and outside to choose from. We chose one inside by the front window which was perfect for us. As we sat at our table, the waitress notified the chef that we had arrived. She then told us that she would be back in a couple of minutes to help us translate the menu if needed, as she was also assisting another set of customers. We looked at the menu and knew exactly what we wanted as our starters and mains. The restaurant does not serve alcohol, but has a surprisingly great selection of non-alcoholic beverages. We ordered the burrata di buffala (buffalo milk mozzarella filled with cream) and tartare de saumon (salmon tartare) as our starters. For our mains, we had the ravioles a la creme de truffe noir (ravioles with black truffle cream) and the entrecote (beef steak) medium rare with white cheese sauce. My wife ordered the litchi drink while I had 2 agave flavored non-alcoholic beers. Within a few minutes, our starters arrived which we were very impressed about as every other place we have been to so far in France had us waiting over 15 minutes before anything arrived. After we finished our starters, the waitress cleared our plates and our mains arrived within a few minutes. The plates looked absolutely stunning and tasted amazing. Everything was cooked to perfection and the timing on the course arrivals were perfect as well. You can taste the passion and love that the chef has for cooking and turning food into art. We normally do not order dessert, but all of the choices looked so delicious. After speaking with the waitress, we set our eyes on le moon chocolat valrhona (premium chocolate lava cake, ice cream, tuile, whipped cream, pistachios, various fruits, white snow/soil, and raspberry+banana coulis). It comes with choice of vanilla or chocolate ice cream and we chose vanilla thinking that chocolate on chocolate was going to be too heavy. I still wanted to try the chocolate ice cream though to see how it was so I asked if I could have a small spoonful just to try. The waitress said that she would ask the chef. When the dessert arrived, it was plated with vanilla ice cream while also having a full portion of chocolate ice cream on the side, very generous. There is no wrong choice in ice cream and honestly the best dessert we have ever had…. I had an espresso noir (post dinner espresso) and we settled our bill. For the quality of food/service at that price point, we could not have been happier. While making small talk, we found out that the chef and waitress are actually married and running a family business. By the way… the chef also prepared and cooked everything in the kitchen BY HIMSELF…. So much talent. Cheers!

The food is delicious and the staff is kind. I came here from a recommendation by a local. They did not disappoint and the price point was reasonable. This place is delicious. I had the Kabouli Pilao and it was juicy with the flavors complementing each other. If I’m ever back in town I will definitely come back again.

Dinner at Afghan Kitchen was an absolute delight and a wonderful discovery. From the first sip to the final cup of tea, everything felt authentic, comforting, and thoughtfully prepared. We began with a refreshing lassi, perfectly balanced — creamy, light, and not overly sweet. A great way to start the meal. The starters were excellent: the chicken tikka was tender, smoky, and well-marinated, while the seekh kebab was juicy, flavorful, and cooked just right. Fresh salad and the trio of sauces (mint chutney, yogurt, and chopped salad) paired beautifully with the grilled dishes. The main course was outstanding. The Kabuli Pulao was fragrant and perfectly cooked, with carrots, raisins, and almonds adding subtle sweetness and texture. It was light yet deeply satisfying. The slow-cooked chicken curry was rich but not heavy, with gentle spices that let the flavors shine rather than overpower. To close the meal, we were served traditional Afghan green tea, warm and soothing — the perfect ending after such a fulfilling dinner. The ambiance is calm and welcoming, the presentation elegant, and the service genuinely warm and attentive. You can feel the authenticity and care behind every dish. If you’re looking for real Afghan cuisine in Lyon, away from touristy places, with honest flavors and generous portions, this place is a must-visit. Highly recommended — I’ll definitely be back.

Amazing food! Came across online and visited with some friends, flavours were top tier and service was incredible. Would definitely go again and recommend.

Food is great, service on the other hand is not existent. During our meal was a complete lack of attention by the waiter who didn't even once come to our table to refill the water, asking if we wanted anything else or how the food was. I also ordered a coffee that never arrived. (Note on the photo: taken at the very start of the meal just after we got served, and before starting to eat and drink. Party of 4. Photo was my dish.)

I was there last weekend , the service I can tell is not good . I ordered chicken dish and after 50 mins the order came wrong they bought it meat instead . When we complained about it they said they will reduce in the price , noting that I did not eat since the meat was not good and the service is so slow to change the meal. Even though he said he made a 20% discount on the price at the end I paid the total price . This is not professional and acceptable way to treat your customers . We will never come back again.

It was our first time trying Lebanese food, and we had no idea what to order, especially with the menu in French and Google Translate failing spectacularly. Thankfully, our waitress recommended the meat set for five, and it turned out to be the best introduction we could have hoped for. When it arrived, the table was completely covered in an incredible spread of grilled meats, warm flatbreads, and a colorful array of mezze. Every dish was a delight. The meats were tender, perfectly seasoned, and kissed with that irresistible smoky char. The hummus was silky and fresh, the salads crisp and vibrant, and the kebabs packed with just the right amount of spice. Sampling a bit of everything turned the meal into a fun culinary adventure rather than just dinner. We were thrilled that the set also included dessert. The flan was smooth and lightly sweet, and the assortment of treats let us taste a little bit of everything - a perfectly satisfying finish. By the end, we were full, happy, and completely smitten with our first Lebanese dining experience in Lyon.

By far our best dining experience in Lyon. Forget about the bouchons and head over here for a fantastic change of pace. Outstanding food, beautifully prepared and presented, and the most genuinely congenial service is the most delightful crowning touch. Excellent Lebanese wines please even the most finicky palettes. Superb on all fronts !

This restaurant is a 10/10. The food is exquisite, and each bite is flavorful, prepared with great care and intention, and beautifully presented. Portions are generous, so you truly get both quality AND quantity. The service is excellent, and the atmosphere is warm and inviting. I can only recommend it to anyone curious about Lebanese food or simply looking for a comforting taste of home while far away.

Service was very slow but the food was very good and the atmosphere was good. It was a Sunday and the place was really busy. Make reservation to be sure.

Wow!! Loved everything I ordered: chicken kabobs, yogurt/cucumber sauce, and hummus (sorry no photos, ate too quickly 😆). I cannot wait to go back. If I could've purchased the plates, I would've! Great place for trying and sharing different flavors/dishes.

Tips for Enjoying Halal Dining in Lyon

While the list above provides a fantastic starting point, navigating the halal food scene in Lyon can be enhanced with a bit of local knowledge. The city moves at a specific rhythm, and understanding the culture of dining here will help you maximize your experience.

From timing your meals to understanding the layout of the neighborhoods, a few simple strategies can make your culinary journey smoother and more enjoyable.

1). Check for “AVS” or Certification

While many restaurants state they are halal, some are more transparent than others. Look for signs indicating “AVS” (A Votre Service) or a specific halal certification body in the window. If you are unsure, don’t hesitate to ask the staff directly; they are usually accustomed to the question and happy to clarify their meat sources.

2). Book Ahead for Dinner

Lyon is a busy city, and the best restaurants fill up quickly, especially on weekends. If you are planning to visit a sit-down restaurant, particularly for dinner, making a reservation is highly recommended to avoid disappointment.

3). Explore the Guillotière Neighborhood

If you want the highest concentration of halal options, head to the 7th arrondissement, specifically the area around Place du Pont and Cours Gambetta. This district is a hub for Middle Eastern, North African, and South Asian cuisine, offering everything from cheap eats to upscale dining.

4). Be Mindful of French Meal Times

Kitchens in Lyon often close between lunch and dinner service. Lunch is typically served from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM, and dinner usually starts no earlier than 7:00 PM or 7:30 PM. If you are hungry in the late afternoon, your options may be limited to fast-food or kebab shops, which often serve continuously.

5). Ask About Alcohol Policies

Even if a restaurant serves halal meat, it does not always mean it is completely alcohol-free. If this is important to you, verify whether the establishment serves alcohol on the premises or if it is a “dry” restaurant, as this varies significantly from place to place.

The evolution of the halal restaurant scene in Lyon represents a beautiful fusion of French culinary standards and Islamic tradition. It is a testament to the city’s ability to adapt and embrace different cultures while maintaining its title as the world’s gastronomic heart. Dining at these establishments offers more than just sustenance; it offers a taste of how Lyon is changing and growing.

By choosing any of the restaurants on this list, you are setting yourself up for a memorable meal that respects your values. Whether you are in the mood for a casual bite or a lavish feast, Lyon proves that halal dining can be an exceptional, world-class experience.
