Marseille is a city of raw energy, sun-bleached limestone, and the constant hum of the Mediterranean. As France’s oldest city, it offers a travel experience that feels distinctly different from the polished boulevards of Paris or the glamour of the Riviera.
It is gritty, vibrant, and undeniably authentic, drawing budget travelers, backpackers, and savvy explorers who want to experience real Provençal culture without the hefty price tag. Finding an affordable place to stay in this bustling port city can be the difference between a stressful trip and a memorable adventure.
The good news is that Marseille’s hospitality scene has evolved significantly in recent years, moving beyond outdated hostels to include stylish budget hotels, modern design spaces, and cozy family-run establishments. You do not need to sacrifice comfort or location to stay within your budget.
However, the sheer size and diversity of Marseille can make choosing the right base overwhelming. Neighborhoods vary wildly in character, from the historic maze of Le Panier to the bohemian streets of Cours Julien and the bustling energy of the Vieux-Port. Understanding which district fits your travel style—and which affordable hotels offer the best value—is key to enjoying everything this dynamic city has to offer.
Price, location, cleanliness, and transport access are the pillars of a great budget stay in Marseille. While “cheap” is relative, the city offers excellent options for travelers looking to spend less on a bed and more on bouillabaisse, museum entries, and boat trips to the Calanques. This guide focuses on properties that consistently deliver value, comfort, and convenience for the price-conscious visitor.
We have analyzed current market options, guest reviews, and neighborhood accessibility to bring you a curated list of accommodations that prove budget travel does not mean boring travel. Whether you are here for a quick weekend city break, a base for exploring the Calanques National Park, or a stopover before heading to North Africa, there is an affordable room waiting for you.
Below, you will find a selection of the best cheap hotels in Marseille, carefully chosen for their balance of price, quality, and location.

I stayed at this hostel for a few nights, and unfortunately had a terrible experience. After my second night, I came back from being out all day to find that my key card no longer worked. Another guest had to let me back into the room, where I found that my bed had been completely stripped and remade and all of my personal belongings were gone, just like the beds of guests who had checked out that day.
I immediately went to the front desk to report what had happened, but the only response I received was, "Um, I don't know what to tell you." There was no urgency, no real effort to help locate my belongings, and no guidance on what my next steps should be.
Because I was leaving very early the next morning, I checked with reception one last time before I left to see if there had been any updates. I was told they would follow up, but I never heard anything. Since then, I have made multiple phone calls, sent emails, and submitted requests through the hostel's website asking for updates on my missing belongings and requesting a refund. Every attempt has gone unanswered.
Losing belongings worth hundreds of euros while traveling was incredibly stressful, but what made the experience even worse was the complete lack of communication, customer service, and follow-up. Based on my experience, I would not recommend staying here.

Super sweet hostel right in the middle of Marseille.
There are plenty of things around the corner and many tourist and party areas are easily walkable from here.
The rooms are hostel rooms, so they could need a renovation, but they are really spacious! and the hostel has a super huge backyard for people to hang out and get to know each other.
When I was there, there were several events, like pop-up tattoos, a concert,...
I can fully recommend the hostel.
Oliver Bennett★★★★★
has a great location near the Vieux Port and a very backpacker-friendly atmosphere. Rooms are basic and can get noisy at times, but perfectly fine for hostel standards. The common areas are good for meeting people, although cleanliness can vary when it’s busy. A good choice if you care more about location and vibe than comfort.

I have been a long term client of this place over the years and a major reason for me to travel to hostels is to cook my own meals.
How can you explain that the kitchen remained without a single heating plate for three days, IN THE MIDDLE OF PEAK SEASON and despite numerous complaints from customers ? Unacceptable. And by the way, only in French hostels.
Next time I will be in Marseille, I will try the People Hostel instead.

The hostel is easy to find thanks to the big sign. There is secure luggage storage. They loaned me a lock with a deposit. Thank you for all of this.
On to the critique. While the location is good (right in the middle of everything), the sidewalks in the area are too narrow for carrying luggage. The WIFI sucks. The shaky beds are the worst I have encountered. They are cheap! Do better! There is street noise from the bed, so the shaking and noise make sleep challenging. There is no heat, yet the blanket is too warm. Lastly, the sensor lights in the bathroom suck! The lights went off when I was showering AND peeing.
The facilities are cool. Labyrinth-esque. The dining room is the most social I have encountered in a long time while traveling.

Booked via lastminute.com, was a friendly welcoming and had no issues during 2 night stay. Located in the business sector of Marseille, with the local tram service just a 2 minute walk away.
Price for the room was very good, room was a nice size with TV, fan, cooker and fridge to store your own food and drink in during your stay and walk in shower in bathroom. Bed was very comfortable. Overall a nice cosy size for the room, yes there was a few stain marks on the curtains and under the bed could have been cleaned better.
The deposit payment is rather high at 250 Euro but the hold was cancelled on the transaction the next day and money back in account which they did state on checking in and checking out. Guessing the deposit is so high as probably had past issues with people trashing the room.
People overlooking the fact that it's a 3 star hotel and complaining about small little things. Yes things could be improved but for 3 stars I would say it's well worth the stay.
I would like to say Merci for the hospitality and we will likely see you again in the near future!

Room was somewhat clean.
Stuff was nice and helpful.
We couldn’t reach accommodation with our car because of the work at the street. Breakfast was just fine. Just enough variety for everyone to find something.

I travel across France regularly, and unfortunately I can say this is by far the worst Apart hotel I have stayed in anywhere in France.
The check-in was delayed by more than 2 hours, which was extremely frustrating after a long trip. Communication with the staff was also very difficult.
The breakfast was another big disappointment — this is the only apart hotel I’ve visited where there were absolutely no hot food options at all. The selection was very poor and far below the standard you would expect.
The overall aesthetic and condition of the hotel are also very weak compared to other Apart hotels in France. The reality looks much worse than the photos. Honestly, the place feels more like a 1–2 star hotel rather than the standard it tries to present.
Marwane Habchi★☆☆☆☆
Very bad rooms, floor is nasty curtains as well.
I even got to hear people at the reception complaining about bed bugs, the manager wasn’t cooperative at all calling them liars and saying that it happens to all people and it is normal.
Besides the deposit of 250 euros while the night is 150 or so, there are some amazing hotels close by that provide way better services. I was fooled by the number of stars never again.
Andy Chen Chen★★★★★
Abdul working in the front desk is such a polite and helpful young man, he made me feel welcome and provided me with such a great service that most five stars hotel wouldn’t offer, he is the reason that made the stay worth it!

Honestly this is one of the worst hotel I have been to in my life. The furniture are very old.
The couch is not usable, meaning you can't seat on it because it is broken!!! The bunk bed is unstable and squeaky. While you take the shower, the water temperature changed from hot to cold several times without touching it.
The kids room (more like a little storage converted in room where only the bunk beds could fit) didn't have AC. The restroom toilet portion (also the shower and sink part) have fans that don't work, so it is was nice to be the 4 of us, without ventilation in such a tiny space..
The furnitures are falling apart... so much that the restroom sink cabinet drawers fell directly on my feet when I opened it. The lights switch in the bunk bed room is not properly attached to the wall, it is not safe for small kids. On top of this, when I talked to the front desk they offered our breakfast for free. The night before at the concierge they said the breakfast was included with my reservation. 157 euros trashed.

Easy access with public transport. Friendly welcome. Confortable room and bathroom.

Very disappointing! Would not recommend!
I stayed at La Grand Prado, and it was a terrible experience. The room was very dirty — dust everywhere, stained walls, dirty carpet and bed linen. There was absolutely no service. The front desk staff were unhelpful and made me feel like I was bothering them.
Breakfast was supposed to be included, but in the morning they told me there would be no breakfast because the staff member responsible for it didn’t show up to work. No apology, no compensation — completely unacceptable.
On top of that, they charged me a €100 deposit, even though I had already paid for the hotel in full. I never got a clear explanation as to why.
I do not recommend this hotel at all. For the same price, you can find a place that’s clean and treats its guests with basic respect.

Throughout the week we spent at this hotel. An initial 1 star review was all I could think of giving it, having said that the place did grow on me and now I'd recommend the hotel to others.
This is mostly down to the staff whom we're all lovely, polite, and really tried their best.
Don't expect any elegance from the rooms, they are tired and as other reviews mentioned, in need of renovation.
But they are well insulated from sound, warm, great bath/shower and with a very nice balcony.
For the price we paid, we very much recommend it.

Disappointed with Service & Overnight Staff
Our group arrived at 4:00pm, only to find that our room was still not ready—an hour past the posted 3:00pm check-in time. While delays happen, this can be a real inconvenience for travelers with tight schedules, so future guests may want to plan accordingly.
The real issue, however, came with the overnight staff. At 5:45am, I went to the lobby to ask about coffee service, as the receptionist the previous day had informed me it was available for purchase upon request. The front desk was unattended, so I checked the coffee area. To my surprise, the staff member on duty was asleep behind the counter. When I inadvertently woke him, he reacted with hostility—raising his voice, telling me to leave the coffee room, and treating my request as unreasonable. Even after I calmly explained what I had been told, his response was dismissive and disrespectful. He eventually charged me 2 euros for the coffee, but the interaction was unnecessarily unpleasant.
Hospitality should be about professionalism, respect, and creating a welcoming environment. Unfortunately, this was not the experience here. Based on this, I cannot recommend this property and would caution others to consider alternative accommodations.

Stayed here for a few nights, we come from the UK and the staff were 10/10 and very understanding and good English! The room was clean and tidy and the balcony could just do with a repaint. The pool is a lovely place to be also!

Rooms were fine. The bed was comfortable. It was nice to have a pool. Breakfast is pricey and not worth it.
One of the staff was amazing!!
They should have 2 people at the desk for the check in as it was super busy.
Some of us slept in the living room and we kept hearing people slamming doors in the hallway.
I would recommend staying only one night there.
Great location.

Our view was great. A nice little terrace to have (our own) breakfast every morning. The pool was on the other side of the hotel, which was great because it could get noisy. Staff was very friendly. Location at 10' walking distance from the Prado beach and a large supermarket. Great experience!

You get what you pay for, and this place never promised luxury standards.
However, basic hygiene wouldn't take much effort. Like functional toilets that flush, and SOAP to wash your hands. That, to me, is not acceptable.
To be used when desperate and not under any other circumstances.

Rooms have just been renovated everythings brand new beds still wrapped in plastic so no more bed bugs comfortable bed place can be a little noisy at night with other guests but maybe that was just my bad luck reception very friendly let us check in early would have been five stars but charged me city tax for 2 people when I was there myself and was only supposed to be charged for 1 person as clearly shown on my Agoda receipt but could be bothered arguing over 1.33 euro other than that great value would definitely recommend

Absolutely horrible, I am not joking when I say do not go here.
Arrived and the man acted as though he was on drugs, wet sneezed into his hands then handed me my money and passport.
Once we got into the hotel room the bed frame was broken, the stool was broken, and there was used toilet paper on the toilet, like come on if your not gonna clean it at least pick the toilet paper up to pretend that you have.
I then got accused of ransacking the place cause I lifted up the bed sheets to look for bed bugs, and surprise surprise we found them.
I want my money back but they denied the request. Come on surely they can’t be strapped for cash considering all the people they have ripped off, I am owed £113 and I will get it!

Staff here is very friendly and helpful ( even in English ) The overall vibe here is a budget hotel, nothing special really. The Terrace and courtyard is surprisingly lovely. The only negative here was the shower curtains are old and moldy, but this can be fixed easily with new curtains for 10€

I booked online and was not informed that a Toyota hilux could not enter the parking lot, all while advertising parking (not limited to very small cars). The staff on the night of the 18 may was extremely rude and refused to help or to get me in contact with a manager. He said that when I pre booked the parking via booking.com, I would have been informed if the lot proportions. This was not the case as Booking stated that you cannot pre-book parking.

The location is good , but there is no fridges in the rooms you must go to the reception and give your thing to them for cold drinks, there is also no light sheets even in the summer, i went to other B&B but this one the worst , the rats are everywhere in the backyard
The staff are friendly and nice people

This hotel is located in the center of city. Double room is not quite spacious as I expected. Well furnished with a table, a bed and a lot of sockets 😂

A Wonderful Stay in Marseille
We stayed at this hotel with my girlfriend during our visit to Marseille, and we couldn't be happier with our choice. The room was spotlessly clean, and the hotel facilities were also top-notch. The breakfast was really nice for the price.
However, what truly made our experience exceptional was the service provided by the hotel staff, especially the two young men at the reception during the morning and afternoon shifts.
Both were extremely kind and helpful, assisting us with our luggage and addressing all our needs with a smile. Thanks to them, our experience in Marseille was truly special.
I highly recommend this hotel, especially for the dedication and excellent service of its team.

We had a wonderful experience at this hotel, and we especially want to thank Larbi at reception for his exceptional kindness and professionalism.
We arrived in Marseille very early after an early morning flight from Malta and were extremely tired. Larbi kindly checked whether our room was ready and was able to offer us an early check-in free of charge. This made such a huge difference to our stay, as we were able to rest and recharge before heading out to explore the city.
His helpful attitude and genuine willingness to assist did not go unnoticed, and we truly appreciated the warm welcome. Thank you again, Larbi, for making the start of our trip so much more comfortable! Highly recommended.

This is a great hotel in a central location near a Metro station and bus routes. The rooms are both adequate and clean, and the beds very comfortable. Reception staff are able to communicate in English, polite, and were very helpful.
The breakfast, whilst not cheap, was very good in terms of quality and variety.

Not a 4 star as claimed. Although it has it's charm. Reception very friendly and helpful. Small gym, indoor pool big enough to swim in. Great choices for breakfast (ask for omelettes, they're delicious.) Our bedroom (315) was too small but for 1 night we managed stepping over and around our luggage. Wardrobe very dark and you can't see clear enough to make coffee (inside wardrobe) Also small fridge in there but not very cold. Walk to Marina (it's a must to go there) about 20-30 mins away. Hop on/off bus close by. Would stay here again but ask for larger room. Comfiest fluffy pillows ever!

I booked 4 nights in a 6-bed female dormitory with a private bathroom, and it was absolutely amazing. I am completely satisfied.
The room is really clean. The bed light and curtains are perfect - great for reading books and for privacy. It was the best choice I made.
Felt safe and so comfortable throughout my stay!
Nunya Bizness★★★★☆
My start here was horrible. I showed up to find out I had to pay for luggage storage. Not cool! I left it in the open. Had I known this though, I could have left it at my prior stay secured. Then my phone wouldn't connect to the WIFI. This was fixed by a staff member who showed up later in the day. Great job on his part!
Wifi is unsecured (do better!)
The dorm room was large. There was a mirror in the pod, however NO mirror by the sink? I had a tiny pillow (do better!) and a blanket that was too warm. There were only 2 toilets and 2 showers for the whole floor, but it worked out for me. The kitchen is pleasant, although overcrowded in the morning. The courtyard would help, but it was cold, super windy AND many people smoke out there. No thanks! The fridge is way too small (do better!). Staff washes the dishes. Yay!
I slept great. 8 hours is tremendous! There were people making noise in their lockers during the night and morning. Lastly, I could hear people walking on the floor above me.

+Great location- easy access to bus station and to train station. Good accessability to a Marseille center.
The hostel bed was well equiped- the curtain, very good light with changable intesity, electrical socket. Bed is also rigid and quet. Good lockers.
Very good common area. There is large are in basement and also large outside area to use. Also a kitchen with water boiling option, fridge and microwave.
-On first floor there is only one shower. I was lucky that I was not in that floor. On my was better situation, but also the variant with toilets and showers in one room is not ideal.

Great location, clean rooms, and good value for money. However, the room was very cold at night because of the central air conditioning. I reported the issue twice, but unfortunately the staff was not very helpful. Overall, a decent stay, but customer service could be improved.

I stayed here on two separate occasions in April, and for a hostel I was pleasantly surprised. I found the bed and pillow comfortable and liked that the bed had a curtain. The bunks are also stable and there is no shaking of the bunk bed when shifting position. The bed had a power outlet and it's own lighting as well. For a hostel it's great - but of course a lot depends on the other people in your room.

The hotel is very close to the subway and bus station "Timone", a 5-7 minute walk, close also to Lidl and Casino supermarket.
The room is spacious, clean, modern equipped, with AC. The only minus is that it has no fridge in the room.
The bathroom is clean, one could argue that it has no shower cabin/curtain but for us it was ok. The bathroom had enough soap and shower gel, you don't need to bring it from home :).
The personal at the reception is very friendly, always smiling.
Our room was at 5th floor on the side of the entrance so we could have a nice view to the palm trees in the front of the hotel.
The breakfast has good quality products, the scrambled eggs are very good. The only minus is that during our 4 days, we had the same breakfast every day, a change would have been necessary.
Overall we had a very good experience.

It was great value for money as hotels in Marseille are super expensive. It also had aircon which is a rarity in the area. The bed was comfortable which is also hard to find for that price. The location was pretty good too. It could be cleaner as there was cigarette smell in our room every day and one of the towels smelled weird, but they changed it and it was fine. There was also a coke bottle under the bed which we only noticed at the end. Facilities were good. One of the staff ladies was super nice and friendly.

Very good value for money for a short stay in marseille. We were pleasantly surprised how big our family room was after staying in other B&B hotels elsewhere. The air conditioning worked very well. The staff was very friendly and helpful. When we got to the room, we noticed the shower gel was almost empty and we were missing a towel, but it was fixed super quickly after a visit to reception.
We can’t comment on breakfast (didn’t take it)
Very well located, It’s only a short walk to the city old town and there’s a big mall with stores and restaurants a few minutes away.
This is still a budget hotel, so people shouldn’t expect luxury and extras, but the room had everything we needed and we enjoyed our stay.

Very convenient location for my needs, as it is right next to the bus, tram, and metro stops I use. This was my third stay at this hotel, and I will definitely come back.
The staff is extremely warm and helpful, and the breakfast is very good, with plenty of healthy options.
I wasn’t aware that housekeeping/cleaning is offered as an optional service in some hotels of the chain. I will make sure to pay closer attention to the booking details next time.
Looking forward to visiting Marseille and this specific hotel again.

What a horrible place to stay, let's start from the basics but not less important. WiFi internet, it's the worst internet connection I had in a hotel, in my entire life. It's so bad 😭 and it was impossible to watch anything, even listen to Spotify or send a WhatsApp message it was impossible. And I complained couple of times, but receptionist just ignored me saying that it was working at his phone.
Secondly, the size of the room, it was way too small, mainly the toilet. Next down 👎 point, the security was very low. No keys to open the room, just a code written in a piece of paper, easy to lost or or get scammed by anyone. Who see it. And not forgetting the code machine available in the reception witch take your money from credit card but do not deliver you the coffee, and the hotel doesn't refund you the money. Anyway it wa da big deception, I do not recommend it to anybody

Stayed here for my birthday as a surprise.
We were greeted at check-in by a thinned lip, bald white man in his 60’s.
Not one smile not a welcome and not a visible willingness to be nice.
If you do not like people, receptionists is not the job for you.
So this comment is for to the direction of this hotel : Employees need to go through soft skills training : (smile, Bonjour, Welcome).
The bald man said the number of our room out loud, he needs training to understand that he cannot do that.
Receptionists also need to tell the guests to close their door well, otherwise there is a constant bip like sound that sounds like an alarm.
Regarding the room, if you have a hard time sleeping with light, bring a sleeping mask as early in the morning the light invades the room (check photo of 6am)
The bed is ok and the room was spacious, the toilet was quite small and the bath tub was quite good, with good water pressure.
Breakfast was basic and a chaos in the morning, however they do have it so it is better than nothing.
Overall if you’re on a budget this might be good for you, however look around you might find better at the same or a big higher price.

Breakfast was advertised as being served until 10:00 a.m. We arrived at approximately 9:45 a.m., well before closing time, yet there was almost nothing left. The vegetarian options were extremely limited, and there were very few items available in general. The only thing I wanted was scrambled eggs, but the tray was empty.
When I politely asked if it could be refilled, I was told it was too close to 10:00 a.m. and they would not prepare any more. If breakfast is advertised until 10:00, guests should reasonably expect food to be available until the, not to find empty trays 15 minutes before closing.
There was also a significant language barrier. I approached a member of staff/security in the breakfast area, but he did not speak English, and unfortunately I don't speak French. I then went to reception hoping they could resolve the situation. Instead, the receptionist simply went to speak to someone in the back twice and returned with the same response: they would not refill the eggs because it was too close to closing time. Even after I politely asked whether an exception could be made, there was no willingness to help or offer any alternative.
What disappointed me most wasn't just the lack of food, but the complete absence of customer service. A little flexibility or empathy would have gone a long way.
I left breakfast hungry despite paying for it as part of my stay. Based on this experience, I would not recommend this hotel if breakfast is an important part of your booking.

A very clean and well-managed hotel with friendly, welcoming and attentive staff. The overall service is professional and makes you feel comfortable from the moment you arrive.
The breakfast is excellent, with a good selection and quality products. A personal highlight for me were the high-tech toilets – a modern and impressive touch that stands out.
The only point to mention is the location at night, which may feel less ideal depending on the area, although this is of course not something the hotel can control.
Overall, a very good hotel by French standards – clean, well run and offering great value. I would happily stay here again.

I had a pleasant stay at B&B HOTEL Marseille Prado Vélodrome. The staff was welcoming and helpful, the room was clean and comfortable, and the location was very convenient. Good value for money and a calm atmosphere. Thank you for the hospitality.

For this company, ghosting a customer who's claiming a partial refund due to their lack of transparency and miscommunication is apparently standard practice, since as soon as they're put in front of their own mistake they just stop answering.
Moreover, receptionists won't help you solve anything, they'll just hand you an email address and charge you with the responsibility to talk to their management, rather than doing it themselves for you right there.
BEWARE: They advertise a parking service WITHOUT mentioning that you should book it in advance. You discover that the parking is full only when you arrive there and don't offer any alternative solution. In the booking process on their own website, there's no trace of an option or a section to book a parking place alongside the room. So they basically want you to GUESS that you should call them to secure a parking place, without stating it clearly anywhere.
When faced with this evidence and screenshots from their own website, they just stop answering your emails, so they prefer losing a customer and developing a bad reputation to making a gesture of goodwill.
This company incarnate all that's wrong in the contemporary way of making business, with no respect whatsoever for their customers. STAY AWAY.

Bad experince regarding personel.. When you ask them something they don't know the answer, although the questions are about the city, ect. They are rude, laughing to peoples faces, making fun in French, talking about customers. Even if its low budget hotel, we payed for staying there and for vacation, not for attitude!! Too bad..

Absolutely terrible establishment. Never spend your money here.
Terrible customer service and the employees will treat you like trash.
Worst hotel stay I have ever had.

My experience was overall quite positive. The location of the hotel is amazing, next to the Vélodrome and to a shopping center. The area is safe. We were nicely welcomed and the room was cozy. It was tidy and honestly perfectly sized for our two nights. The only downside was the cleanliness of the bathroom. It didn't feel very clean and the towels didn't smell very nice. I love a good smell in hotel rooms, bedsheets and towels. This would've been great. Another thing that bothered us was that we couldn't a parking place (we didn't know parking places had to be reserved with the room reservation and there was an event so we couldn't park in the other nearby parkings). The breakfast was good. Not too over the top but it was good for me. I would recommend staying at this hotel for a few nights.

THEY ASK FOR A 200 EURO SECURITY DEPOSIT THAT YOU NEVER GET BACK!! Be careful not to get scammed!! You read that right: I stayed just one night at this aparthotel, and upon arrival, they asked for a €200 deposit. Since they didn't provide a receipt, I became suspicious. I went back on the evening of my check-out day and spoke to someone at the reception who told me it would be refunded immediately. But nothing happened!!! I am currently going through a chargeback process with my bank. DON’T go there—they are scammers and will steal your money!! And they don't respond to any attempts to contact them!!

The staff saves the place, it obviously needs some refreshing. But people working here are lovely. Also it is useful to have the metro station nearby.

We had a good overall experience at this aparthotel. The rooms were clean, tidy, and well-maintained, which made for a comfortable stay. The staff were friendly and helpful throughout, and a special mention goes to Tata at the reception, who was particularly welcoming and accommodating.
One downside was the spa area, which was quite crowded during our visit and didn’t offer the relaxing atmosphere we had hoped for. We were also surprised to learn that we had to take out our own rubbish to bins on the street, which felt a bit unusual for a hotel stay.
Despite these small inconveniences, we enjoyed our time and appreciated the great service and cleanliness. Would consider staying again.

Appartment perfect. Good quality bed. Check-in ok. Only a problem that will avoid that I book again to your appartments. I didn't got an invoice at my company name.
After more than 100 bookings worldwide is the first time that one otel tells me that they cannot do an invoice at my company name. The person in the check-out was very stupid speaking and he was not listening at all. He told me that I have to ask the invoice at company name to Booking. I tried to explain him that Booking is just a intermediate platform that doesn't provide invoices. The hotel was paid by my company and I need an invoice at company name, not at my personal name. It was a completely impossible to have any reasonable solution from him. I cannot work with an hotel that doesn't provide the appropiate invoices at company name. Obviously in case of tax inspection, I will have to explain this negative to the spanish authorities because payer and invoiced person do not match.
Very unpleasant attitude from this person at check-out. Really incredible because I'm also Booking partner and I know very well the rules but he didn't listened.

Odalys City Marseille Le Dome is decently located only a few minutes walk from a metro station and just round the corner from a supermarket. However, our trip was in June and the temperature reached around 35c and the rooms AC was just insufficient and barely working. In the day the room was holding at around 24.5-26c according to it's own internal thermometer which was bearable but in the nights it reached 27C+ as the AC errored out making it just too hot to sleep. We requested this to be fixed or an alternative room or some assitance twice but were just waved off by the man at the desk who said a technician would be coming the next day (he didnt, or at least it wasn't fixed). Basically we paid for AC and did not recieved it as far as I am concerned. Would recommend avoiding.

Not great, not terrible. Rooms were clean and include an AC and a kitchenette, including a dishwasher, which was great. No cleaning for the first 7 days, though, and you have to clean and put away the dishes before you leave, as well as take out the trash (?) - that one really surprised me, not seen that done in a hotel before. Breakfast was nice, with fresh croissants and crepes and stuff, I just missed veggies to go with the eggs :-/ Staff was friendly.

I stayed here in the Superior Double with Balcony while studying abroad, and I had a great experience with the hotel. As a student traveling alone. I would 100% recommend this hotel to other students who are studying abroad. I’d love to come back someday!

A nice apartment/hotel with a full kitchen (fridge, microwave, plates, utensils, etc.) and large by European standards. It is in a nice part of town with lots of shops, restaurants, and a variety of food stores. Also just a few minutes from the Metro station. The street outside is not very busy but surprisingly, noise easily got up to my 3rd floor room.

They couldn’t find our booing when arrival and threaten us to pay €300 deposit or kick us out. They promised it will not go through and we also making sure it got refunded when checking out. However I stillsee still the €300 on my bill.

Good hotel, close to the metro station, the rooms are a bit worn, but ok, there is also a small kitchen with everything. You have to take out the trash yourself and wash the dishes as well. The litter box is 10 meters from the main door, so it is not difficult to take it out every morning. If you don't want it, cleaning can be ordered at the reception counter for money. The hotel also has a laundry room with washing machines and dryers. The service is excellent. In the morning, the metro runs every 11-12 minutes, you should take that into account if you are going to the main railway station. There are many grocery stores near the hotel, a pharmacy 100 meters away.
Practical Tips for Booking Cheap Hotels in Marseille
Before you finalize your reservation, it helps to understand how the local market works. Marseille is a major conference hub and a popular summer destination, which means prices can fluctuate dramatically based on events, cruise ship arrivals, and the tourist season. By planning strategically and knowing where to look, you can lock in a great rate without compromising on the quality of your stay.
1). Book far in advance for summer weekends
From June to September, Marseille fills up with tourists heading to the Calanques and the beach. Budget rooms sell out first, and last-minute prices can double or triple. Secure your room at least two to three months ahead if you are traveling in peak season.
2). Stay near a metro line if you are priced out of the Vieux-Port
Hotels directly overlooking the Old Port are rarely cheap. However, neighborhoods like La Plaine, Noailles, or Castellane are just one or two metro stops away. You can often save 30% to 50% on your nightly rate simply by staying a 10-minute walk or a 2-minute metro ride from the center.
3). Avoid booking during major events
Marseille hosts major football matches at the Stade Vélodrome, as well as large conventions at the Parc Chanot. When Olympique de Marseille plays at home or a big expo is in town, even the most basic hotels raise their rates. Check the local event calendar before choosing your dates.
4). Look for “Hôtel de Charme” or independent 2-star properties
While big chain budget hotels offer consistency, independent family-run hotels in Marseille often provide more character and better personalized service for the same price. They may lack an elevator or have smaller rooms, but they usually make up for it with prime locations and local advice.
5). Consider a room without breakfast
Hotel breakfasts in France can be surprisingly expensive, often costing €10 to €15 per person. In Marseille, you are never far from a boulangerie or a café where you can get a café crème and a croissant for a fraction of that price. Opting out of hotel breakfast is one of the easiest ways to keep your daily costs down.
Marseille rewards the traveler who comes with an open mind and a smart plan. By choosing one of the affordable accommodations listed above, you free up your budget for the experiences that truly matter here: hiking the limestone cliffs of the Calanques, watching the sunset from the Palais du Pharo, or getting lost in the vibrant markets of Noailles.
The city’s reputation as a rough-around-the-edges port town is part of its charm, but it is also a place of incredible warmth, diversity, and beauty. With a comfortable, budget-friendly room as your base, you can explore the oldest city in France without worrying about your wallet, allowing you to soak in the Mediterranean atmosphere at your own pace.
