17 Best Hotels in Marseille

From the timeless allure of the Vieux-Port to the sun-drenched cliffs of Les Calanques, Marseille moves to a rhythm entirely its own. As France’s oldest city, it offers a raw, authentic energy that polished Riviera towns often lack.

Choosing the right base here is essential, because the neighborhoods vary wildly in character, from gritty, artistic quarters to serene coastal retreats. The city’s accommodation scene has undergone a remarkable transformation in recent years.

Gone are the days when travelers simply passed through on their way to Provence. Today, Marseille boasts a compelling mix of design-forward boutique hotels, historic palaces, and chic seaside escapes that cater to every style of traveler.

Whether you are arriving by TGV at Saint-Charles or sailing into the iconic port, your experience is shaped by where you wake up. Do you want to be steps from the bustling fish markets and bouillabaisse restaurants? Or would you prefer the quiet crash of Mediterranean waves and a private terrace overlooking the sea?

For first-time visitors, staying near the Vieux-Port offers unrivaled convenience, putting you in the heart of the action. Meanwhile, those seeking a more local, bohemian vibe often gravitate toward Le Panier or the emerging district of La Joliette. Each area offers a distinct lens through which to view this complex, beautiful city.

Luxury seekers will find world-class service in converted historic buildings and modern architectural marvels. Budget-conscious travelers, on the other hand, are not left out, as the city has embraced the boutique hostel and affordable design hotel trend with open arms.

This guide curates the very best places to stay, ensuring you find the perfect match for your travel style. We have considered location, design, amenities, and the unique character that makes a hotel in Marseille truly memorable.

We had a wonderful stay and a very positive experience at the hotel. A special thanks to Mr. Larbi, who was incredibly kind, helpful, and attentive throughout our stay. His ability to speak German was especially helpful for us and made communication so much easier. We truly appreciated his warm hospitality and excellent service. Thank you, Mr. Larbi!
Ramonia Bonnici★★★★★
We had a wonderful experience at this hotel, and we especially want to thank Larbi at reception for his exceptional kindness and professionalism. We arrived in Marseille very early after an early morning flight from Malta and were extremely tired. Larbi kindly checked whether our room was ready and was able to offer us an early check-in free of charge. This made such a huge difference to our stay, as we were able to rest and recharge before heading out to explore the city. His helpful attitude and genuine willingness to assist did not go unnoticed, and we truly appreciated the warm welcome. Thank you again, Larbi, for making the start of our trip so much more comfortable! Highly recommended.
Colin Moore★★★★★
This is a great hotel in a central location near a Metro station and bus routes. The rooms are both adequate and clean, and the beds very comfortable. Reception staff are able to communicate in English, polite, and were very helpful. The breakfast, whilst not cheap, was very good in terms of quality and variety.

Not a 4 star as claimed. Although it has it's charm. Reception very friendly and helpful. Small gym, indoor pool big enough to swim in. Great choices for breakfast (ask for omelettes, they're delicious.) Our bedroom (315) was too small but for 1 night we managed stepping over and around our luggage. Wardrobe very dark and you can't see clear enough to make coffee (inside wardrobe) Also small fridge in there but not very cold. Walk to Marina (it's a must to go there) about 20-30 mins away. Hop on/off bus close by. Would stay here again but ask for larger room. Comfiest fluffy pillows ever!

Honestly this is one of the worst hotel I have been to in my life. The furniture are very old. The couch is not usable, meaning you can't seat on it because it is broken!!! The bunk bed is unstable and squeaky. While you take the shower, the water temperature changed from hot to cold several times without touching it. The kids room (more like a little storage converted in room where only the bunk beds could fit) didn't have AC. The restroom toilet portion (also the shower and sink part) have fans that don't work, so it is was nice to be the 4 of us, without ventilation in such a tiny space.. The furnitures are falling apart... so much that the restroom sink cabinet drawers fell directly on my feet when I opened it. The lights switch in the bunk bed room is not properly attached to the wall, it is not safe for small kids. On top of this, when I talked to the front desk they offered our breakfast for free. The night before at the concierge they said the breakfast was included with my reservation. 157 euros trashed.

Easy access with public transport. Friendly welcome. Confortable room and bathroom. Quiet and clean. I recommand the good quality for the price given.
Andre Eitner★☆☆☆☆
Very disappointing! Would not recommend! I stayed at La Grand Prado, and it was a terrible experience. The room was very dirty — dust everywhere, stained walls, dirty carpet and bed linen. There was absolutely no service. The front desk staff were unhelpful and made me feel like I was bothering them. Breakfast was supposed to be included, but in the morning they told me there would be no breakfast because the staff member responsible for it didn’t show up to work. No apology, no compensation — completely unacceptable. On top of that, they charged me a €100 deposit, even though I had already paid for the hotel in full. I never got a clear explanation as to why. I do not recommend this hotel at all. For the same price, you can find a place that’s clean and treats its guests with basic respect.

Throughout the week we spent at this hotel. An initial 1 star review was all I could think of giving it, having said that the place did grow on me and now I'd recommend the hotel to others. This is mostly down to the staff whom we're all lovely, polite, and really tried their best. Don't expect any elegance from the rooms, they are tired and as other reviews mentioned, in need of renovation. But they are well insulated from sound, warm, great bath/shower and with a very nice balcony. For the price we paid, we very much recommend it.

We stayed at this hotel for one night and were extremely satisfied with our experience. The location is excellent. It is about a 10–12 minute walk from Marseille Saint-Charles Train Station and only 5–6 minutes from the Old Port (Vieux-Port). Although it is located in a central area, our room was very quiet, allowing us to enjoy a relaxing stay. The reception is open 24/7, and the staff were friendly, welcoming, and helpful throughout our stay. We also appreciated the complimentary tea and coffee available in the lobby at any time. Although we did not have breakfast, the breakfast area looked spacious, stylish, and beautifully decorated. We stayed on the top floor. Our room was spacious, bright, and spotlessly clean. It smelled wonderfully fresh when we arrived, which immediately gave a great first impression. Having a bathtub was a nice bonus. The bed was comfortable, the air conditioning was quiet and cooled the room very efficiently, and the Wi-Fi was fast and reliable throughout our stay. Overall, we were extremely pleased with the hotel. Its excellent location, cleanliness, comfortable rooms, welcoming reception staff, and thoughtful complimentary refreshments made our stay even more enjoyable. If we visit Marseille again, we would definitely stay here again and happily recommend it to other travellers.

We had a very pleasant stay at this hotel. Our room was very clean, comfortable and well equipped. The highlight of our trip, however, was Theo. Unfortunately, we didn’t get the chance to see you again before leaving, Theo, but you truly made our stay special. Your recommendations, tips, and guidance helped us discover Marseille in a way we never would have on our own. Thank you so much for your kindness and enthusiasm. We will always remember Marseille, hotel Marsiho and the wonderful memories. We wish you all the best and we will definitely be back 🙂

Service was amazing from everyone at reception, especially Rami! The air conditioning was great and I really liked the common area. The only issue I had was that the curtain in my room wouldn’t close all the way so I had a bit of trouble sleeping because of the light coming in. I would love to stay here again in any case but especially if they fix this one small issue 🙂
Camila Valenzuela★★★★★
Great option in the old port area. Super nice rooms, good noise isolation, decent breakfast. A nice plus is their complementary coffee and tea all day!
J Y★☆☆☆☆
I left my jacket in the room yesterday. I called in the afternoon, but they told me they hadn’t seen it, which is unbelievable because it’s not even an expensive jacket. I tried calling the reception again and asked them to check once more, but they didn’t even answer the phone. I honestly cannot imagine how I could lose my jacket in this hotel. I only checked out yesterday, and the cleaner said she didn’t see my jacket, which is simply not possible. It is a nice white jacket, although it is not expensive. If the cleaner did not take it, then what happened to it? This situation is unbelievable and extremely disappointing. I will definitely make an official complaint about this.

The hotel and the rooms were amazing and the service was good. Breakfast was very French (in the best way possible!) my only recommendation is improve the quality of the eggs (yes, random but besides that no notes). The location is close to the main port which is great but the neighbourhood behind was a bit rough. Almost forgot! hotel guests get a discount (I think is 10%) at Big Fernand downstairs! Great burgers!

I had a wonderful stay at this hotel and would gladly recommend it. The entire team was extremely friendly, helpful, and attentive throughout my visit. They were always quick to provide information and assist with anything I needed. I especially appreciated their responsiveness when an important document of mine was mistakenly delivered to the wrong hotel. The staff immediately took action, contacted the other location, and helped me locate it quickly so I could retrieve it without any issues. That level of care really stood out. The room was amazing: comfortable, clean, and beautifully maintained. The location is also fantastic, making it a perfect place to stay. A big thank you to Stephanie, Lilya, Lana, Adrien and Lorenzo (I’m sorry if I miss someone, all reception staff working on 4th of May was amazing!) for their kindness, professionalism and reactivity! I would definitely recommend this hotel and would happily stay here again!
Linda E Hudson★★★★★
We stayed for one night here. It was everything we could have wanted. The location is very convenient for the Vieux Port and within easy walking distance of restaurants. Our room was very comfortable with a typically French outlook onto the street below with Plaine trees in our view. We loved the trams with their bells passing by throughout the day. It was light and bright and soundproofed for a quiet and good night’s sleep. Great amenities in our room;- Nespresso coffee, Nuxe products, clothes steamer. However the best part of our stay was our Nepalese receptionist (we are so sorry not to remember her name). She was very efficient, helpful, informative and friendly. She made us feel welcome and that nothing was too much trouble. We will definitely stay here again.

I was given a connecting room and felt unsafe given that I was a solo female traveller. Was met with a little unhappiness at reception when I requested for a room change. Also, I requested ahead for a high floor. The room change landed me in the first floor. View was nice but felt unsafe the entire time because people from the street could look directly into my room. Lilya and the other receptionist on day duty were quite friendly and provided helpful hints to explore around Marseilles. Overall the room cleanliness was pretty good and I liked the housekeeping, except it was not super thorough in the bathroom. Nevertheless, convenient enough location for me to wander. Thankfully the AC worked. Overall room had a nice enough layout but I could not get the sunlight I needed because of the location of the room I was provided. Customer service shouldn’t be tier based.

I had a wonderful stay during my visit to Marseille. The location is perfect — close to the Old Port and within walking distance of many great restaurants and attractions. The hotel is modern, very clean, and the rooms are comfortable and well maintained. What truly made the difference was the exceptional service. The staff was kind, professional, and attentive throughout our stay. They went above and beyond to make sure everything was perfect, and their friendly attitude made us feel very welcome. I highly recommend staying here when visiting Marseille. I would definitely come back!

I booked 4 nights in a 6-bed female dormitory with a private bathroom, and it was absolutely amazing. I am completely satisfied. The room is really clean. The bed light and curtains are perfect - great for reading books and for privacy. It was the best choice I made. Felt safe and so comfortable throughout my stay!
Nunya Bizness★★★★☆
My start here was horrible. I showed up to find out I had to pay for luggage storage. Not cool! I left it in the open. Had I known this though, I could have left it at my prior stay secured. Then my phone wouldn't connect to the WIFI. This was fixed by a staff member who showed up later in the day. Great job on his part! Wifi is unsecured (do better!) The dorm room was large. There was a mirror in the pod, however NO mirror by the sink? I had a tiny pillow (do better!) and a blanket that was too warm. There were only 2 toilets and 2 showers for the whole floor, but it worked out for me. The kitchen is pleasant, although overcrowded in the morning. The courtyard would help, but it was cold, super windy AND many people smoke out there. No thanks! The fridge is way too small (do better!). Staff washes the dishes. Yay! I slept great. 8 hours is tremendous! There were people making noise in their lockers during the night and morning. Lastly, I could hear people walking on the floor above me.

+Great location- easy access to bus station and to train station. Good accessability to a Marseille center. The hostel bed was well equiped- the curtain, very good light with changable intesity, electrical socket. Bed is also rigid and quet. Good lockers. Very good common area. There is large are in basement and also large outside area to use. Also a kitchen with water boiling option, fridge and microwave. -On first floor there is only one shower. I was lucky that I was not in that floor. On my was better situation, but also the variant with toilets and showers in one room is not ideal.

Great location, clean rooms, and good value for money. However, the room was very cold at night because of the central air conditioning. I reported the issue twice, but unfortunately the staff was not very helpful. Overall, a decent stay, but customer service could be improved.
Logan Kelly★★★★★
I stayed here on two separate occasions in April, and for a hostel I was pleasantly surprised. I found the bed and pillow comfortable and liked that the bed had a curtain. The bunks are also stable and there is no shaking of the bunk bed when shifting position. The bed had a power outlet and it's own lighting as well. For a hostel it's great - but of course a lot depends on the other people in your room.

Sal Chebbah★★★☆☆
I really wanted to like this Ibis, particularly because the people working here are genuinely wonderful. The receptionist who checked us in was exceptional. Patient, helpful and friendly, he went out of his way to find us a better rate for the room. The café and breakfast staff were equally kind, and throughout our stay everyone seemed willing to go above and beyond rather than simply do the minimum. And, unexpectedly: some of the best coffee we had in Marseille at breakfast! After a surprising amount of mediocre coffee elsewhere, that deserves a special mention. There is also something refreshingly normal and relaxed about the place downstairs. The other guests seemed friendly and easygoing, the staff chatted and smiled, and despite being a large corporate hotel, it somehow had a human atmosphere. That is not something you can manufacture through branding. Unfortunately, the rooms themselves are another story. They are just incredibly sad. Basic is absolutely fine when something is thoughtfully designed, but these rooms feel cheap, dated and joyless. Lying in bed, I genuinely felt as though I were in a cabin on an overnight train rather than a hotel in Marseille. The décor is unattractive, there is very little warmth, and even the television isn’t a Smart TV, which feels surprisingly outdated now. The corridors also have a persistent unpleasant smell, something we unfortunately encountered in several buildings during our time in Marseille. I understand that Ibis isn’t selling luxury, and I’m not judging it against a five-star hotel. But affordable doesn’t have to mean depressing. A hotel room is still your temporary home, and thoughtful lighting, comfortable materials and a little attention to design can completely change how a space makes you feel. So strangely, I came away liking the people and the atmosphere of this hotel much more than the hotel itself. The rooms desperately need some love. The staff absolutely don’t. They were warm, patient, funny, helpful and consistently kind, and they transformed what could have been a very disappointing stay into something much more pleasant. And whoever is responsible for that breakfast coffee: please don’t change a thing.

We had a very pleasant experience at the hotel, especially thanks to the wonderful staff. The gentleman at the reception was very welcoming, kind, and helpful. The cashier working in the restaurant was also extremely friendly, open, and attentive, which made us feel very comfortable. A special mention goes to Leo, one of the waiters. He was incredibly friendly, attentive, and accommodating throughout our stay. We also had a slightly uncomfortable situation with a stranger who tried to sit down at our table. Leo immediately noticed what was happening and reacted very professionally and protectively. He asked the person to leave, made sure we were safe, and even arranged for someone to accompany us to the elevator and make sure we got upstairs safely. He also immediately contacted security to make sure everything was handled properly. We really appreciated how attentive, caring, and professional Leo was in that situation. His quick reaction made us feel safe and looked after. Overall, the staff were kind, welcoming, and professional, and we are very grateful for the excellent service.
Rocío B. Parisi★★★★☆
Stayed only one night for work. The bedroom was super clean, tidy and comfortable. The only thing that I didn’t like is that it has a “3-in-1” hair, body and hand wash instead of normal shampoo/conditioner. Breakfast is super good, from an endless coffee machine, going through orange and apple juice, breads, jams, cheeses, pastries, crepes, fruit, and even scrambled eggs, bacon and beans. I really enjoyed my stay!
Serb Paul★★★★★
We stayed at Ibis Marseille Centre Euroméd for two nights in November. The hotel is located 20 minutes walk from Marseielle St Charles, near les Docks Village and 10 minutes walk to Les Terrasses du Port in a quiet part of Marseille. Check-in was quick and efficient; staff handled our arrival professionally. The room was clean, functional, and comfortable for a short city stay. Bedding was excellent and the layout made good use of the space. A small minus there is not enough towel in the room only one per person. Suggestion would be great to have a face towel. The breakfast offered a excellent selection of hot and cold items, fresh pastry, cheese, orange juice, and got us out the door each morning. For a two-night stay it felt like good value given the location and level of service. Good choice for travelers who want a clean, well-located hotel with friendly service for short stays.
Stelios Zacharias★★★★★
Excellent Hotel 🛏️ Very nice experience with normal size rooms (not too small like other options) and very friendly staff that tried to help in all the cases. Location is nice close to the port and main square Breakfast was classic, not too many options but enough

Staff here is very friendly and helpful ( even in English ) The overall vibe here is a budget hotel, nothing special really. The Terrace and courtyard is surprisingly lovely. The only negative here was the shower curtains are old and moldy, but this can be fixed easily with new curtains for 10€

I booked online and was not informed that a Toyota hilux could not enter the parking lot, all while advertising parking (not limited to very small cars). The staff on the night of the 18 may was extremely rude and refused to help or to get me in contact with a manager. He said that when I pre booked the parking via booking.com, I would have been informed if the lot proportions. This was not the case as Booking stated that you cannot pre-book parking.

The location is good , but there is no fridges in the rooms you must go to the reception and give your thing to them for cold drinks, there is also no light sheets even in the summer, i went to other B&B but this one the worst , the rats are everywhere in the backyard The staff are friendly and nice people

This hotel is located in the center of city. Double room is not quite spacious as I expected. Well furnished with a table, a bed and a lot of sockets 😂 If you love taking shower with hot water, it will be a minor point, I was waiting 5 mins until they coming (3rd floor)

A Wonderful Stay in Marseille We stayed at this hotel with my girlfriend during our visit to Marseille, and we couldn't be happier with our choice. The room was spotlessly clean, and the hotel facilities were also top-notch. The breakfast was really nice for the price. However, what truly made our experience exceptional was the service provided by the hotel staff, especially the two young men at the reception during the morning and afternoon shifts. Both were extremely kind and helpful, assisting us with our luggage and addressing all our needs with a smile. Thanks to them, our experience in Marseille was truly special. I highly recommend this hotel, especially for the dedication and excellent service of its team.

Great location near the train station but the area did seem a bit sketchy at night coming and going. Very helpful front deck. Good breakfast. Noon check-out - which was nice. Our room was great - on a top floor with views of Marseille rooftops. We got one of the larger rooms at a discounted rate. The only problem we had was that when we arrived late in the afternoon on a very, very hot day, the air conditioning was turned off and the temperature in the room was very warm. The air conditioning worked great but it still took over 90 minutes to get the room to a comfortable temperature.

Stayed for just one night after arriving in Marseille by train. Hotel is in a great location to the gare, walking distance to many great neighborhoods and about 15 minutes to vieux port. The staff was excellent and the room was quiet, clean and pretty with very comfortable beds. The breakfast in the morning was fresh and delicious with a beautiful outdoor patio. Priced affordably. Highly recommend this hotel.

A very comfortable hotel located In front of the Central train station and 10 minutes walk from the old port area. Rooms are clean and wide, lounge area is equipped with a billiard and darts, breakfast is generous. Rates are fair, they also offer 3/4 car parks in front of the hotel entrance at social cost. The district where the hotel looks not that safe during the night as it is closed to Central train station, but for the rest i have appreciated a lot staying at Alex’s.

Lovely staff, great location next to the train station and a nice variety for breakfast. They also had a sweet little kitty that lived in the courtyard that was friendly. Wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.

The hotel is in a great location and has a warm, welcoming atmosphere. Hugo and Lisa greeted us kindly and were extremely professional throughout our stay. Ms Nadine at the front desk was amazing. I had lost my luggage and she helped me find a good store to buy clothes, get me iron board and also loaned me umbrella because there was a lot of rain. She is a great professional and provided excellent service.
vyvy mika★★★★★
The host was very nice, the location near to the main attractions points, like 10 to 15 min walking to the old port and the old town Le Panier. Also near to the metro station. There were plenty of restaurants nearby and a 24/7 bakery. The room was clean with all the supplies needed, with a little balcony with a stunning view.
Tobias Kwetina★★★★☆
Clean hotel, quick check-in, Madame Nadine is a star. Liked the room but some improvements required: 1) Water pressure is too low, bad for women and poor experience. Need to be fixed. 2) Water temperature is a problem: too hot and cold water not really available in both shower and normal tap. It seems the appliances require maintenance. 3) The room heats up so if aircon not working you feel hot and need to open windows (mosquito) Takes 10 min from main station, Careefour 1 min away and of course you are in the middle of many attractions. Location wise perfect!

Ангелиночка Вика★☆☆☆☆
The worst hotel I have ever seen. The staff, specifically a man around 50 years old, who is either the manager or owner, I’m not sure – is an absolutely rude person who doesn’t know how to deal with guests. I travel a lot for work and stay in hotels 1-2 times a week. I was passing through Marseille, very tired, and had an early train the next day. So I chose a hotel near the station. I picked between two options. I had seen negative reviews about this hotel but thought they were exaggerated. How wrong I was! To the point that this is the first negative review I’ve written. Even when I stayed in a hotel where I had to sleep in a jacket for 80 euros a night because the heating didn’t work – I didn’t write anything bad. This hotel is unsafe! Because its manager or owner is aggressive and unreasonable. That’s the first thing you need to know. Second, the rooms only look good in the photos. In real life, they are disgusting. There was no window in the room, only in the bathroom. The room is as dark as a hole. The bathroom window looks out onto a garbage dump, where there are dirty socks, underwear, and some clothes. And right there, there’s a loud extractor fan buzzing. It’s impossible to sleep. The mattresses are terrible, your back will say goodbye. The shower is tiny, even for me, I weigh 49 kg. There’s a steep staircase and a broken elevator, but the owner doesn’t consider this a problem. There’s no luggage storage, they’ll suggest you put it on a chair in the dining area. The area is dangerous. I would strongly advise girls not to stay here. This “hotel” doesn’t deserve 3 stars. The most interesting thing is that after I wrote a negative review about the hotel on Booking.com, the manager canceled my reservation, even though I had stayed there. Of course, I didn’t get a refund because it’s considered a “penalty” for not checking in, but I actually stayed there. And it’s this rudeness that made me leave a review here as well. Apparently, he does this all the time to keep his rating from falling to the bottom. I sincerely do not recommend this place to anyone.
bunny king★★★★★
I hope you can ignore the negative reviews The room we had on the fourth floor was lovely it seemed very new and and modern very clean with everything we needed coffee soap tissues etc The room was small but very clean and bed was comfortable The two gentlemen at the front from Algeria were friendly and helpful Very close to the train station
Nicholas Westerman★☆☆☆☆
AVOID THIS PLACE! I booked a room through booking.com and called the hotel to organise a late check in which they confirmed on the phone. When I arrived I was told they had given the room to someone else and would not refund it. They then cancelled it on booking.com saying I had not shown up, meaning they did not have to refund me (they did this after I arrived). So I paid for the room and got no room or refund. The manager was one of the rudest people I have met travelling, and given others have said similar things, I would consider this a borderline scam. I have travelled around the world, and this is only the second 1 star review I have left (I would give 0 if I could). Don't be sucked in by the price, and don't use booking.com!
Daniel Smith★☆☆☆☆
Avoid this hotel if possible. The air conditioning is a false promise. If you open the windows you’ll need ear plugs. Broken facilities. Not worth the price in my opinion.

had a wonderful stay at this hotel. The staff were welcoming and attentive, the room was clean and comfortable, and the overall atmosphere was relaxing. A special thank you to Denisa from the bar area—she was friendly, professional, and truly made my experience even better with her excellent service. I would definitely recommend this hotel and look forward to staying again.

Good location in a quieter part of the city, especially convenient if you’re visiting the stadium area. Rooms are clean and comfortable, and the staff is friendly. Not a luxury hotel, but perfectly fine for a few days stay.

For our visit to the Velodrome it was perfect. The staff were good but totally overrun for the breakfast. The hotel was busy but the morning team were a bit unorganized and under prepared. Apart from that it is a good hotel to stay in when visiting Marseille.

Comfortable, quiet hotel with convenient parking. Friendly staff - especially the efficient breakfast team. Good breakfast. Straightforward walk from the centre for those who don’t mind a good walk but close to the metro for those who prefer or if the weather is bad. Several decent restaurants within easy distance. The only slight fault is that the shower base is very slippery.

THEY ASK FOR A 200 EURO SECURITY DEPOSIT THAT YOU NEVER GET BACK!! Be careful not to get scammed!! You read that right: I stayed just one night at this aparthotel, and upon arrival, they asked for a €200 deposit. Since they didn't provide a receipt, I became suspicious. I went back on the evening of my check-out day and spoke to someone at the reception who told me it would be refunded immediately. But nothing happened!!! I am currently going through a chargeback process with my bank. DON’T go there—they are scammers and will steal your money!! And they don't respond to any attempts to contact them!!

The staff saves the place, it obviously needs some refreshing. But people working here are lovely. Also it is useful to have the metro station nearby.

We had a good overall experience at this aparthotel. The rooms were clean, tidy, and well-maintained, which made for a comfortable stay. The staff were friendly and helpful throughout, and a special mention goes to Tata at the reception, who was particularly welcoming and accommodating. One downside was the spa area, which was quite crowded during our visit and didn’t offer the relaxing atmosphere we had hoped for. We were also surprised to learn that we had to take out our own rubbish to bins on the street, which felt a bit unusual for a hotel stay. Despite these small inconveniences, we enjoyed our time and appreciated the great service and cleanliness. Would consider staying again.

Appartment perfect. Good quality bed. Check-in ok. Only a problem that will avoid that I book again to your appartments. I didn't got an invoice at my company name. After more than 100 bookings worldwide is the first time that one otel tells me that they cannot do an invoice at my company name. The person in the check-out was very stupid speaking and he was not listening at all. He told me that I have to ask the invoice at company name to Booking. I tried to explain him that Booking is just a intermediate platform that doesn't provide invoices. The hotel was paid by my company and I need an invoice at company name, not at my personal name. It was a completely impossible to have any reasonable solution from him. I cannot work with an hotel that doesn't provide the appropiate invoices at company name. Obviously in case of tax inspection, I will have to explain this negative to the spanish authorities because payer and invoiced person do not match. Very unpleasant attitude from this person at check-out. Really incredible because I'm also Booking partner and I know very well the rules but he didn't listened.

Odalys City Marseille Le Dome is decently located only a few minutes walk from a metro station and just round the corner from a supermarket. However, our trip was in June and the temperature reached around 35c and the rooms AC was just insufficient and barely working. In the day the room was holding at around 24.5-26c according to it's own internal thermometer which was bearable but in the nights it reached 27C+ as the AC errored out making it just too hot to sleep. We requested this to be fixed or an alternative room or some assitance twice but were just waved off by the man at the desk who said a technician would be coming the next day (he didnt, or at least it wasn't fixed). Basically we paid for AC and did not recieved it as far as I am concerned. Would recommend avoiding.

Room , bathroom size, bed & pillow comfort was perfect. AC was quiet and efficient. Even the lights go out when remove the hotel key, AC stays on. If you care about excessive energy consumption, consider turning it off when you leave the room. Breakfast was very good but one of the attendants was curt. After showing me the table where I have to sit, no further instructions were given for the first timers. It is a self service breakfast which is situated in a tight space out of sight. I needlessly waited few minutes with assumption that they will bring at least coffee or guide me where to get the food. Other than small hiccup, I truly enjoyed my stay.

We had a two night stay at this hotel and must say I am impressed with the friendliness of the staff and their attention to the needs of their guests. In many ways it did not feel like a hotel and you were very much seen and valued as a guest. If we needed anything, they would gladly help us out and went above and beyond. Comfortable and clean rooms and delicious breakfast. I would definitely use this hotel again.

The most perfect place to stay in Marseille, the suites are beautifully appointed, comfortable and meticulously clean. The kitchen is very usable and is kitted out excellently, everything you need to actually cook. The location of the Hotel, and the Suites is perfect for exploring Marseille, it's busy and exciting, but it's not loud and it's incredibly safe. Just minutes from the Port, and surrounded by the most wonderful restaurants and shops. A particular joy was having the Spar shop just down the road. (Not like any spar shop in the uk) The staff at the Hotel couldn't have been more helpful, spoken perfect English and where very patient letting me practice my French. Marseille is always worth visiting, but especially so if you have a fantastic base like this.

We loved the apartment, very comfortable and great location. The breakfast was very good and buffet was very cosy. But most of all, we were very happy with the staff, they delivered great service. Shoutout to Hamza, Khadija, Lea and we forget the last few names, but they were very helpful. We are definitely coming back to this hotel when visiting Marseille. Un grand merci 🙏🏼

We spent a few nights early march in this Maisons du Monde hotel and it was very enjoyable. All the staff we met had always been helpful and very kind, very easy and nice experience overall. The room was great, very clean, the furnitures were good. The bathroom was very clean and easy to use for 2 people. The bedding was comfortable (the bed was a bit in the bigger side than what we usually like but it was fine, you just need 4-5 minutes to reach the other side of the bed while rolling). We did not benefit from the breakfast as Marseille also had a lot of nice places to offer in the area and had a full agenda, but we regretted it a bit as it seemed very good! Next time we will make sure to taste it! The shared areas are a bit small, but nicely furnished and comfortable. The hotel is very conveniently located, we did not have any discomfort from the noise of the area. Maybe our new favorite place to stay in the area? We’ll definitely try again!

Stayed here for my birthday as a surprise. We were greeted at check-in by a thinned lip, bald white man in his 60’s. Not one smile not a welcome and not a visible willingness to be nice. If you do not like people, receptionists is not the job for you. So this comment is for to the direction of this hotel : Employees need to go through soft skills training : (smile, Bonjour, Welcome). The bald man said the number of our room out loud, he needs training to understand that he cannot do that. Receptionists also need to tell the guests to close their door well, otherwise there is a constant bip like sound that sounds like an alarm. Regarding the room, if you have a hard time sleeping with light, bring a sleeping mask as early in the morning the light invades the room (check photo of 6am) The bed is ok and the room was spacious, the toilet was quite small and the bath tub was quite good, with good water pressure. Breakfast was basic and a chaos in the morning, however they do have it so it is better than nothing. Overall if you’re on a budget this might be good for you, however look around you might find better at the same or a big higher price.

Disappointing breakfast service and unhelpful staff Our stay itself was fine, but the breakfast experience completely spoiled it. Breakfast was advertised as being served until 10:00 a.m. We arrived at approximately 9:45 a.m., well before closing time, yet there was almost nothing left. The vegetarian options were extremely limited, and there were very few items available in general. The only thing I wanted was scrambled eggs, but the tray was empty. When I politely asked if it could be refilled, I was told it was too close to 10:00 a.m. and they would not prepare any more. If breakfast is advertised until 10:00, guests should reasonably expect food to be available until the, not to find empty trays 15 minutes before closing. There was also a significant language barrier. I approached a member of staff/security in the breakfast area, but he did not speak English, and unfortunately I don't speak French. I then went to reception hoping they could resolve the situation. Instead, the receptionist simply went to speak to someone in the back twice and returned with the same response: they would not refill the eggs because it was too close to closing time. Even after I politely asked whether an exception could be made, there was no willingness to help or offer any alternative. What disappointed me most wasn't just the lack of food, but the complete absence of customer service. A little flexibility or empathy would have gone a long way. I left breakfast hungry despite paying for it as part of my stay. Based on this experience, I would not recommend this hotel if breakfast is an important part of your booking.

A very clean and well-managed hotel with friendly, welcoming and attentive staff. The overall service is professional and makes you feel comfortable from the moment you arrive. The breakfast is excellent, with a good selection and quality products. A personal highlight for me were the high-tech toilets – a modern and impressive touch that stands out. The only point to mention is the location at night, which may feel less ideal depending on the area, although this is of course not something the hotel can control. Overall, a very good hotel by French standards – clean, well run and offering great value. I would happily stay here again.

I had a very pleasant stay at the MEININGER Hotel Marseille Centre La Joliette. The hotel is modern, clean, and well located, making it a great base for exploring Marseille. The rooms were comfortable, nicely designed, and had everything needed for a short city trip. The staff were friendly and helpful throughout my stay, and the overall atmosphere felt relaxed and welcoming. I also appreciated the common areas, which were stylish and practical. The only reason I’m giving 4 instead of 5 stars is that the room could have been a little quieter at night, and breakfast had room for more variety. Overall, a very good value-for-money hotel that I would definitely consider staying at again when visiting Marseille.

The hotel has some positive aspects, especially the breakfast variety and the overall location. However, several issues negatively affected my stay. I requested room cleaning twice during my stay (1 and 3 September), but the room was not cleaned on either occasion. At breakfast, some items ran out before the end of service and were not replenished, and the bread and cereals did not seem particularly fresh. In addition, the bed squeaked every time I moved, which made it difficult to sleep comfortably. Overall, the stay was disappointing due to the lack of housekeeping and the maintenance issues. I hope these points will be addressed for future guests.

We stayed at MEININGER Hotel Marseille for a weekend trip and overall had a good experience. We were a group of 5, so we booked a room for five people, which worked really well for us. The room was nice, very clean, and looked recently renovated. The design was modern and pleasant, and the bathroom was perfectly clean, which we really appreciated. The temperature in the room was adjustable and comfortable. The staff were friendly and helpful throughout our stay. There’s also a gaming area in the hotel, which is a fun plus if you want to relax or hang out. A couple of small points to improve. Check-in is a bit late at 3 pm, and even though we arrived earlier, it wasn’t possible to access the room before that. Also, luggage storage is not free, you have to pay to store your bags, which felt a bit unusual compared to most hotels. Lastly, the windows in the room could use a better cleaning. As for the location, it’s decent, not too far from the Old Port and conveniently close to the train station. Overall, a pleasant stay with a few improvements needed.

Great location and an incredibly efficiently run property. The staff are welcoming and helpful, and there is a terrific vibe in the lobby with entertainment, a solid food bar, and a great communal kitchen setup. The room itself worked out completely fine. The only recommendation I'd highly suggest for management is providing extra floor towels or paper towels in the bathrooms. With backpackers constantly splashing water everywhere, the bathroom floors really need some extra padding or matting to keep things clean and dry

Hotel in a great location and good value for money. There is air con in hotel rooms the breakfast is basic but nice and there is a luggage room to store luggage for a small fee . Staff are welcoming and lovely. Would be nice if there was a fridge in room however there is a small communal kitchen to cook and store things in the fridges

Disappointed with Service & Overnight Staff Our group arrived at 4:00pm, only to find that our room was still not ready—an hour past the posted 3:00pm check-in time. While delays happen, this can be a real inconvenience for travelers with tight schedules, so future guests may want to plan accordingly. The real issue, however, came with the overnight staff. At 5:45am, I went to the lobby to ask about coffee service, as the receptionist the previous day had informed me it was available for purchase upon request. The front desk was unattended, so I checked the coffee area. To my surprise, the staff member on duty was asleep behind the counter. When I inadvertently woke him, he reacted with hostility—raising his voice, telling me to leave the coffee room, and treating my request as unreasonable. Even after I calmly explained what I had been told, his response was dismissive and disrespectful. He eventually charged me 2 euros for the coffee, but the interaction was unnecessarily unpleasant. Hospitality should be about professionalism, respect, and creating a welcoming environment. Unfortunately, this was not the experience here. Based on this, I cannot recommend this property and would caution others to consider alternative accommodations.

Stayed here for a few nights, we come from the UK and the staff were 10/10 and very understanding and good English! The room was clean and tidy and the balcony could just do with a repaint. The pool is a lovely place to be also!

Rooms were fine. The bed was comfortable. It was nice to have a pool. Breakfast is pricey and not worth it. One of the staff was amazing!! They should have 2 people at the desk for the check in as it was super busy. Some of us slept in the living room and we kept hearing people slamming doors in the hallway. I would recommend staying only one night there. Great location.

Our view was great. A nice little terrace to have (our own) breakfast every morning. The pool was on the other side of the hotel, which was great because it could get noisy. Staff was very friendly. Location at 10' walking distance from the Prado beach and a large supermarket. Great experience!

The hotel is very close to the subway and bus station "Timone", a 5-7 minute walk, close also to Lidl and Casino supermarket. The room is spacious, clean, modern equipped, with AC. The only minus is that it has no fridge in the room. The bathroom is clean, one could argue that it has no shower cabin/curtain but for us it was ok. The bathroom had enough soap and shower gel, you don't need to bring it from home :). The personal at the reception is very friendly, always smiling. Our room was at 5th floor on the side of the entrance so we could have a nice view to the palm trees in the front of the hotel. The breakfast has good quality products, the scrambled eggs are very good. The only minus is that during our 4 days, we had the same breakfast every day, a change would have been necessary. Overall we had a very good experience.
Maria Assaf★★★★☆
It was great value for money as hotels in Marseille are super expensive. It also had aircon which is a rarity in the area. The bed was comfortable which is also hard to find for that price. The location was pretty good too. It could be cleaner as there was cigarette smell in our room every day and one of the towels smelled weird, but they changed it and it was fine. There was also a coke bottle under the bed which we only noticed at the end. Facilities were good. One of the staff ladies was super nice and friendly.

Practical Tips for Booking a Hotel in Marseille

To make the most of your stay in this vibrant Mediterranean hub, a little local knowledge goes a long way. Understanding the nuances of Marseille’s geography and culture will help you avoid common pitfalls and secure the best possible experience. Here are essential tips to consider before confirming your reservation.

1). Match the Neighborhood to Your Vibe

Marseille is a city of distinct villages. The Vieux-Port is ideal for tourists wanting central access, but it can be noisy at night. Le Panier offers artistic charm but involves navigating narrow, steep streets. If you prioritize relaxation and swimming, look toward the Corniche or the Vallon des Auffes rather than the city center.

2). Book Well Ahead for Summer and Events

Marseille is a major Mediterranean cruise hub and a gateway to Provence. Hotels fill up months in advance for the peak months of June through August. If you are visiting during major events like the Marseille Jazz Festival or a big football match at the Stade Vélodrome, early booking is not just recommended; it is essential.

3). Prioritize Air Conditioning

The Mediterranean sun is relentless, and Marseille can experience intense heat waves during the summer. While many historic buildings have been renovated, not all budget options offer powerful air conditioning. Always verify that your room has individually controlled climate control, especially if traveling between June and September.

4). Consider Parking Logistics

If you are planning a road trip through Provence, driving in central Marseille can be stressful. Many boutique hotels in the Vieux-Port or Le Panier do not have on-site parking. Look for hotels that offer partnerships with nearby secure garages, or consider staying in a district like Prado or La Joliette where parking is more accessible.

5). Look Beyond the Facade

Marseille is a city of contrasts; a beautiful historic exterior doesn’t always guarantee a quiet interior. Street noise, particularly from scooters and nightlife, is a common complaint. Read recent reviews specifically mentioning noise levels, and request a room facing the courtyard or on a higher floor if you are a light sleeper.

Finding the right hotel is the key to unlocking the true spirit of France’s most underrated major city. It allows you to transition seamlessly from the chaotic beauty of the Noailles market to the serene blues of the Mediterranean without missing a beat.

Marseille rewards the curious traveler. With a well-chosen base, you can spend your days exploring hidden coves, dining on wood-fired pizza in Le Panier, and watching the sunset paint the Notre-Dame de la Garde in shades of gold. Where you stay isn’t just a place to sleep; it is the foundation of your entire Provençal adventure.
