12 Best Bakeries Near Mestalla Stadium

Whether you are a lifelong Valencia CF supporter making the weekly pilgrimage to Mestalla or a first-time visitor eager to soak up the electric atmosphere on Avenida de Suecia, matchday is about more than just the ninety minutes on the pitch. It is a ritual that involves the pre-game coffee, the half-time debate, and the post-match analysis. For many, that ritual is incomplete without a stop at a local bakery to fuel up before the roar of the crowd or to soothe the sting of a tough loss with something sweet.

The area surrounding Mestalla Stadium is a vibrant residential neighborhood that blends the passion of football with the culinary traditions of the Mediterranean. Unlike the tourist-heavy center of Valencia, this zone offers an authentic glimpse into local life, where neighborhood ovens have been firing since before the stadium’s foundations were laid. Here, the scent of fresh bread often mingles with the distant chants of the "che" faithful.

Finding the perfect spot to eat, however, requires navigating a mix of traditional Spanish hornos (ovens), modern pastry labs, and cozy cafés. You might be looking for a hearty empanada to line your stomach, a delicate croissant with café con leche, or a bag of freshly baked bread to take home for a bocadillo. The options vary wildly in style, price, and atmosphere.

This guide focuses on the very best bakeries within a comfortable walking distance of the stadium. We have prioritized establishments that locals actually frequent, ensuring you get high-quality ingredients, authentic recipes, and that unmistakable Valencian charm. Whether you value speed on a busy matchday or a leisurely brunch on a quiet Tuesday, there is a perfect spot waiting for you just around the corner.

To curate this list, we evaluated each venue based on the quality of their dough, the variety of their offerings, their proximity to the stadium gates, and their consistency of service. We have skipped the generic chains in favor of places with a distinct personality and a true mastery of the oven. You won’t find stale tourist traps here, only the real deal.

As you plan your visit to the iconic stadium, remember that the streets of the Algirós and Mestalla neighborhoods hold culinary treasures that rival the action on the pitch. Arrive early, bring your appetite, and prepare to discover why Valencians take their baked goods just as seriously as their football. Here is our curated selection of the essential stops for any food-loving football fan.

Even sweet food "peut te toucher l'âme". Pastelería "Vicente Raimundo" is an undeniable and unchallenged proof of that. Best buñuelos de calabaza in Valencia. Look no further to indulge your sweet tooth!

There are some nice cakes and pastries, but the service is seriously bad. At least from the elder lady. It feels like she's doing you a favour. No smile, no information about the products. Really heavy and unpleasant communication. 😔
Ella Ross★★★★★
Best bakery in Valencia. So many great options to choose from and all the pastries and breads are fresh and homemade. They are also very cheap for such high quality. Highly recommend.
Tiago Cardoso★★★★★
Best breads in town, hands down. Unique variety and flavors. Highly suggested to find an exotic bread or some other pastries. Place is always crowded, so be ready for some queues. Besides, cards not accepted.
Sal FromCal★★★★★
Nice local bakery with a wide selection of bread and pastries at good prices. I was the only non local when I purchased a loaf of bread and two empanadas. Both items were very good.

We were really looking forward to it, having had it on our wish list for a while. We'll definitely be back for the food. But the woman who "served" us couldn't have been more curt and unpleasant. She gave us a look of disdain, a face that said we disgusted her, and when we asked her two or three questions... well, she practically called us idiots. And we're a nice family and were only inside for about 60 seconds. I recommend you look into that.

In this bakery, formerly known as "the French bakery," my grandparents bought their bread DAILY, then my mother, and now (much less frequently) I do. It's sad to see that they follow the same policy as Mercadona for both ensaimadas and croissants: raising prices while reducing the quantity. Today I bought a croissant and an ensaimada. The croissants are practically made without the horns, just the body, and the ensaimadas are gradually becoming more like the small ones. Of course, they don't lower the price. And when you tell the employee, she gives you a sour look.

Everything from the bakery is delicious. But the 7 o'clock opening time... that's debatable. I have to buy bread at 7 to make sandwiches for my daughters, and often they're inside, but it's 10 o'clock and they still haven't opened. On top of that, it seems like they don't want to serve you at that hour. I understand they have things to do inside, but if it's difficult for them or they can't open at that time, they should change their hours. I'm not going there specifically for that reason, as I'm already short on time. This happens often; it's not an isolated incident.

A very good bakery with a great variety. The palmeritas are delicious, and the bread is just as good. Honestly, the aroma is irresistible as you walk by.

This place is truly amazing and very unique. The decoration is incredibly beautiful; the moment you walk in, it gives you a sense of warmth, peace, and very good feelings. Every detail has been thoughtfully considered, and the atmosphere is truly special. The staff are extremely friendly, attentive, and sincere, especially one of the employees, the handsome gentleman who brings such great energy to the atmosphere, made us feel very good. 😊 Everything is very delicious, and the location is also great. It is a place where people can spend enjoyable time, create beautiful memories, and want to come back again and again. I definitely want to experience the atmosphere here in winter as well. I will definitely come back. I wholeheartedly recommend it! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Great coffee shop with delicious food, excellent coffee, and a welcoming atmosphere. The vibe is warm, relaxing, and perfect for enjoying breakfast, lunch, or just a cup of coffee. Friendly service and a great overall experience—we’ll definitely be back!

It's quite crowded for breakfast, you order at the counter and they serve it. The food is tasty, the salmon sandwich is nothing special.

A wonderful cafe in a great classy neighbourhood. The location is great. The design is small but wonderful using the light wooden colours. The coffee is delicious. And the cheese cake that I have tried was so great. Recommended.
Teagan Litten★★★☆☆
The menu here looked unique and really tempting, so I was excited to try breakfast. I ordered the avocado salmon toast, but it didn’t quite meet my expectations, the bread was a bit cold and hard, and overall it felt like it was missing that extra touch of care. If you’re after something simple, this place works, but if you’re looking for a more special breakfast, you might want to explore other options.

A small café amongs the blocks of flats, with a nice atmosphere. We ordered two different slices of cakes and two cups of coffee (café cortado). The cakes were home-made, very tasty. The coffees were good, too. Highly recommend!

This was the first place we visited in Valencia and the owner and workers were so nice! The pastries were amazing and the interior is super cute and cozy. After talking for a bit the owner gave us free alfajores which was very nice of her :))

Found along the subway to the hotel. It's not bad, with a good selection of sweets and even some savory options. It's not very big inside for eating in, just a couple of chairs. The sweets aren't particularly attractive, but I'd give them a 7 for taste. Prices are very competitive.

On the way to the beach we decided to stop here for a lunch. So we got some toasts with a drink and a coffee set plus we got some cookie and a pistachio dessert. My toast with salmon and avocado was delicious. The fish was soft and melted in my mouth, bread was fresh, soft inside and crunchy outside. Pistachio dessert was a bit strange- it absorbed some scent from the refrigerator. Overall our experience was good. Staff were friendly and welcoming, speak good English. Atmosphere was good, not loud music on a background, clean tables, clean windows. Definitely will come back when in the neighbourhood.

Very cute cafe with absolutely fine prices! The service is rlly great and I wanted to say thank u one more time. My boyfried is alergic to apples so they made the smoothie without applejuice for us. When I told them that it is not sweet enough, they gave me another juice for free, too mix with the smoothie :)) The food is also rlly great!

Just had breakfast here, so my opinion is as fresh as the orange juice. Delicious croissant artesano, which just melts in your mouth. Triangulo espinaca with some crunch on the outside and moist, flavorful interior. All served warm. Orange juice and coffee to accompany. All with table service, and all for a little over 7 euros. What’s not to like?
FreeTown Red★★★☆☆
We’ve ordered 2 branches and one breakfast. Quite low quality ingridience, omlet was quite badly made and instead of fries we recieved chips. Seems to be more fast food rather than bakery & coffee. I found some ther better places worth of try in the same area.

Very good and fresh bakery. Everyday you can find something sweet or salty to take to go. Everything is high quality. We came back a few times a it was top of the top. The service does not speak English but is nice and always tries to get along by showing and smiling. We did not speak Spanish but always could get what we wanted.

Authentic Valencian bakery I stumbled across. They have a few shops in Valencia. Absolutely delicious, very well priced, and the locals shop there. Visited twice during my two days' stay. Do yourself a favour and drop by.

It’s 10/10. Good atmosphere, a lot of different pastries. Friendly people and sooo tasty. And because my bun with chocolate had soooo much chocolate - my bag has the half of it rn 🫠😂

This place is incredible! Stumbled across it on the way to another breakfast place and decided to go back here. So happy I did. The pastries are delicately made and they have interesting offerings that I haven’t seen in other bakeries. They even accommodated my extremely pathetic attempt to speak Spanish when ordering and (PSA to those for whom it really matters) they can speak a little English when needed. Probably gonna go back multiple times.
Alan★★★★★
15 years ago there were countless small bakeries producing excellent bread. I used to go out at 7am to get a fresh loaf. Then things started to change. Petrol stations would have an oven to finish off factory made dough. On this trip to Valencia I have found a few good old school bread makers and none better than Alfonso Martinez. They are opposite the central market so easy enough to find. The bread was just as I remember it: light, crispy, delicious. A baguette here cost €1 and you can get one from carrefour for 45c. But I promise Alfonso’s bread is worth the extra.

We ordered some bocadillos and empanadas. They were very dry, no flavour at all, and had a bad texture. You can get much, much better food for a lower price at every street corner in this city. I would not recommend coming here until they improve.

Very expensive No fresh products
Josh Armstrong★★★★☆
The pastries were good, and had good flavor. The only problem is that I went later in the day and the breads were a bit dry. Even though she warmed them up and it still was not as good as it could’ve been if I went fresh. Either they need to make more during the day, close earlier, or find a way to keep them from drying out.
Johannes W★★☆☆☆
We went here after a hard night of drinking and chatting up a couple birds in the marina beach club. And let me tell you one thing, its 10s only Season over there. We came back and some local bloke recommended this spot. Trust me I’ve never tasted more in inedible Pizza but it is definitely an experience you have to have had. Also a beautiful place for a good ol’ golgo (If you know you know).

Undoubtedly, a very good maker of cakes and patisserie items. The baguette style bread is in need of real help. Unsalted dough may be a deliberate choice, but the crust quality is undeveloped. The dough needs time, and I'd suggest a sourdough starter for depth of character. But notwithstanding this deep low, the cakes are a highlight
Rose B★★★★☆
I like some of their bread and have also tried some of their sweets, like the chocolate dome, which was full of flavour. They package everything nicely, to make sure it all travels well. Their displays are always fabulous and enticing. On the downside, they are a bit pricey if compared to similar bakeries in the area. Their savoury food options, such as the lasagna and the empanadas are not as good as their sweets.
Samuel Csető★★★★★
We ordered a cake for birthday through the online website which was super easy. Cake was ready for the selected date, time and was beautiful. Quiches were tasty and staff spoke English very well and was super helpful. They even gave us a lighter for the candles as we forgot to buy it. Cake was verx tasty and perfect! 10/10 can recommend a visit.

This is our second time ordering a birthday cake from Passage à Paris. I’d say it’s the best French-style cake in Valencia. We ordered the Mille-feuille, the strawberry fruit tart, and the raspberry fruit tart — all were delicious. I’m usually not a big fan of pastries, but I really love their cream. Highly recommend!

This pastry shop must be one of the best in Spain. We are incredibly fortunate to have them in Valencia. They offer a delectable selection of small cakes, perfect for surprising your guests at any party. They also have exquisite cakes for birthdays and special occasions, as well as large cakes for an indulgent personal treat. And let's not forget their divine French pastries, 🥮 🥐, which will undoubtedly make any day special. A must-visit for anyone exploring the city." These are just minor suggestions, and the original review effectively conveys the writer's enthusiasm for the pastry shop.
Evan★★★★★
This authentic French dessert store primarily caters to take-away service, offering only two small tables for quick in-house indulgence. The owner, a delightful and attentive host, promptly shares detailed product information. We savored a Fraisier, Tarta Limon y Merengue, and Eclair de Pistache, and each dessert was a delightful explosion of flavors, masterfully balanced without veering into excessive sweetness. Alongside, we complemented our treats with refreshing juices, all of which came to a reasonable total of about 15 euros, a testament to the exceptional value for such high-quality offerings. For those in Valencia, this is an absolute must-visit for an authentic taste of French desserts. This recommendation holds true for locals and travelers alike. I'm eagerly anticipating my next visit on my return to Valencia.

THE OG SPOT FOR VALENCIAN HORCHATA! Cool spot to have an horchata and farton (slightly sweet , doughnut like , bread stick). The horchata was just a little too sweet for my liking . But very nice spot and quick service. Their fartons were some of the better ones we had in all of Valencia .
Melissa & Jamie★★★★★
Came to Horchatería de Santa Catalina for churros and they were some of the best we had in Valencia. They were served fresh with a crisp outside and soft centre. The hot chocolate was just right too. It was rich enough to enjoy with the churros without being overly heavy. A big thank you to Naomi who looked after us. She was friendly and made us feel really welcome.
roylan zuriel★★★★☆
Came here as recommended by my tour guide that this place is one of the original horchata places - I personally enjoyed the horchata with the farton and dipping that into the horchata. It wasn’t too sweet which is what I prefer, I even ended up ordering two portions. Service was really quick and you pay as soon as you get your order.
Dario Fiorucci★★★★★
A historic institution in Valencia that is an absolute must-visit. The interior is charming, decorated with traditional ceramics that create a wonderful old-world atmosphere. It’s the perfect place to try authentic, chilled horchata, paired with traditional fartons for dipping. A delightful, classic stop right in the heart of the city.
Hande Demirci★★★☆☆
Honestly, I found it quite overrated. The dough was okay, but the chocolate didn’t have a rich or deep taste and was below average for me. We went because of the hype, but I wouldn’t personally recommend it. The horchata was also not really for me. I understand it’s a unique and traditional taste, so I don’t think it’s necessarily the place’s fault - I just didn’t enjoy it.

We simply loved this place. The savory pastries were very delicious, and the sweet baked goods were excellent as well. The recommendations from the very friendly staff member were outstanding: the raisin cookie was absolutely delicious, and the tiramisu we took home on his recommendation was a real pleasure to eat just now. Thank you very much for that!

Tips for Visiting Bakeries Near Mestalla

While visiting a bakery is a fairly straightforward affair, navigating the rush of a matchday or the quiet hours of a Spanish afternoon requires a little local knowledge. The following tips will help you avoid the crowds, order like a local, and ensure you get the freshest possible product during your visit to the stadium district.

Time your visit around the match. If Valencia CF is playing at home, the bakeries within a two-block radius of the stadium will be packed roughly 90 minutes before kickoff. If you want a relaxed experience, visit three hours before the game or wait until the match has started. If you are heading into the game, buy your pastries early before the shelves are picked clean by hungry fans.

Know the local schedule. Many traditional Spanish bakeries close for a few hours in the afternoon (the siesta) and reopen in the early evening. Do not assume a bakery will be open at 4:00 PM. Morning hours and early evening hours are your safest bet for finding the widest selection of fresh bread and pastries.

Order like a Valencian. While many staff members speak some English, knowing a few words goes a long way. Ask for a "bocadillo" for a sandwich, "dulces" for sweets, or "pan integral" for whole wheat bread. A simple "por favor" and "gracias" will ensure you are treated with the same warmth as the regulars.

Carry cash for small purchases. While most modern bakeries and cafés accept credit cards, some of the older, traditional hornos still prefer cash for small transactions like a single croissant or a loaf of bread. Keep a €10 or €20 note in your pocket to avoid any awkwardness or missed opportunities.

Ask about the "especialidad de la casa." Every great bakery has a signature item they are famous for. Rather than just grabbing a standard croissant, ask the person behind the counter what they are most proud of. Whether it is a savory coca, a unique filled pastry, or a specific type of rustic bread, this is how you find the hidden gems that don’t make it onto the standard tourist blogs.

The beauty of exploring the bakeries near Mestalla is that you are experiencing the city like a true local. You are stepping away from the stadium’s commercial food stalls and into the places where generations of fans have started their matchday traditions. The flour on the counter and the warmth of the ovens tell a story of a neighborhood that has grown up alongside its beloved football club.

So, whether you are grabbing a quick espresso and a sweet treat before kickoff or loading up on bread for a picnic in the Turia Gardens after the game, these bakeries offer the perfect complement to your stadium visit. Take your time, enjoy the flavors, and let the local food culture enhance your experience of one of Spain’s most historic football grounds.
