Marseille’s dining scene is a vibrant reflection of its multicultural identity, shaped by centuries of maritime trade and immigration. While the city is famous for bouillabaisse and pastis, its Asian food culture has quietly become one of the most exciting in southern France.
From steaming bowls of Vietnamese pho to delicate Japanese sushi and fiery Sichuan stir-fries, the city offers a remarkable diversity of flavors. Unlike Paris, where Asian restaurants are spread across multiple arrondissements, Marseille’s options feel more concentrated and personal.
Many of the best spots are family-run establishments that have been serving the same recipes for decades. This creates a dining landscape where authenticity and warmth often trump trendiness. The port city’s connection to Asia runs deep, particularly through its historic links to Vietnam and China.
Generations of immigrants brought their culinary traditions with them, adapting recipes to local Provençal ingredients without losing their soul. Today, that fusion of cultures makes eating your way through Marseille’s Asian restaurants a genuinely unique experience.
Whether you are a local looking to expand your regular rotation or a visitor seeking a break from French bistro fare, the following guide is designed to help. It covers a wide spectrum of cuisines, price points, and neighborhoods, from the bustling Noailles district to the quieter streets near the Vieux-Port. Each recommendation prioritizes quality, consistency, and the kind of memorable meal that keeps people coming back.
One important note before diving in: Marseille’s dining culture is relaxed, but popular restaurants fill up quickly, especially on weekends. Booking ahead is always wise, particularly for dinner service. Also, many smaller establishments are cash-only or have limited card minimums, so carrying some euros is a practical tip.
The following list represents the very best of what the city has to offer right now. It is based on a combination of local reputation, ingredient quality, and the overall dining experience. You will find hidden gems alongside well-known favorites, ensuring there is something for every craving and budget.

The menu seemed limited and at first I didn't understand where the beer was. Generally nice food, attentive staff and nice bar buns!

Nice Chinese restaurant in Marseille, recommended by many colleagues at work. Finally had the chance to try on a Saturday for lunch.
The ordered dishes were tasty and the service was good. I was not disappointed.

We loved this restaurant so much that during our 3 days in Marseille we came here every single evening for dinner. The food is delicious, the portions are generous, and the prices are very reasonable. Everything was perfect, and we truly enjoyed every visit. Highly recommended to anyone who enjoys Asian cuisine!

It was my first experience of Japanese cuisine and it was amazing. I really recommend going there.
I've had Donburi Tsukune, Tempura Shrimps, Fried Gyoza, also Ramune to drink. It was good, but a little bit too sweet for me. For dessert I've had cherry blossom and yuzu mochi. Overall 10/10 experience.

Exceeding service and very nice staff - starting the kitchen early for us despite not being open yet. Mandus excellent, Yakisoba well balanced. Definitely recommended!

We had the fried gyoza, tempura shrimp and the Cantonese yakisoba and they were all delicious. A shoutout to Ghislain for being so lovely!

My husband and I were very happy to stumble upon this restaurant. The food was nice and the flavours were authentic to their Japanese region. The owner was very kind, and he put in a lot of effort into his cooking and his service to provide a positive experience. Authentic Asian atmosphere, flavorful dishes, and a very warm owner made this a great find. The beef with onions and Korean chicken were both tasty, and the portions were perfectly sized for the very reasonable prices.
A solid recommendation for anyone in Marseille looking for satisfying Asian cuisine.

The food tastes absolutely delicious, but you should be prepared for the portions. They are LARGE. The service is also friendly, though the place does tend to get a bit crowded quickly as it’s quite small.

It is a small restaurant but the food and service is great! The atmosphere is homey and cozy. We went there for dinner on a rainy evening in marseille and left with a full tummy. Good vegetarian or vegan options also.

The place is amazing! We had wings, and raviolis for starters and for main - general tao chicken and bo bun with chicken. The food was presented in a very nice way! Portions are extremely satisfying. All dishes were super delicious, made with fresh ingredients. Its a very nice and affordable place with authentic food. The owners are lovely!😻 will definitely come back when in Marseille. ❤️ thank you for this wonderful experience!!!

Very kind man, helped us late at night while being busy to still get a chance to try some vegan asian food! Soups were really great (i especially liked the thai one), good to know the pho is less of a soup and needs rice on the side. I would for sure recommend it as the price-quality ratio is amazing 😋
Jodie Bradshaw★★★★☆
Must visit for vegans, it was a blessing to have so many options - especially in Marseille! Staff were welcoming and the atmosphere was chic. I'd strongly recommend the green curry if you like a mild spicy kick! The saigonais curry had a meaty kick. Both green and yellow curries were thick like soups so we came away nice and full. Very much enjoyed their house cocktail, also.
Tosh★★★★★
Food so good, we practically licked our plates clean. The wait staff were really nice and funny. My favorite was the noodle soup on the vegan menu followed by the yellow curry and spring rolls. For dessert, we had a biscoff tiramisu which was excellent and was demolished in no time. They had a lot of other interesting desserts too but we didn't have room in our tummies after a truly scrumptious meal.
Shruti Nivas★★★★★
Fantastic experience! The food is really really good. Vegetarians and vegans have tonnes of options here to choose from (there is an entire menu), including a selection of atleast 3 desserts. The owner is such fun to talk to- friendly and funny. Would recommend this over and over again

A truly memorable evening at Ginger Phoenix in Marseille.
The meal opened beautifully with clams infused with delicate aromatics and sea snails in a refined coconut broth. The cod was cooked with precision — tender and perfectly balanced — while the lamb with olives delivered depth and elegance without heaviness. The ginger caramel dessert offered a subtle yet distinctive finish, balancing warmth and sweetness with finesse.
The cuisine reflects a confident personal style — refined technique paired with expressive yet restrained flavors.
The owner’s warmth and hospitality, including speaking Chinese, added a thoughtful and welcoming touch to the experience.
An elegant and highly recommended dining destination.
Paige Koehler★★★★★
One of the best meals we had on our trip - definitely go here. Our server translated everything from French to English which was very generous (and an impressive task) for him to do for us and was very warm and welcoming. He let us know the chef is often inspired by seasonal items and changes the menu based on the best ingredients and creativity. The pork belly was top notch along with the Saigonese salad. The flavors were layered, each second you tasted something different. Highly recommend, great vibe / drinks and flavors!
Jasmine Tait★★★★★
Loved the vibe of this restaurant so much- menu was really original and food was delicious. Waiter and Chef were amazing and so kind to remake our order when we forgot to mention an allergy (totally my fault and definitely didn’t expect them to remake but they so kindly did)
rachel rogers★★★★★
Lovely space close by the Opera serving beautifully presented and delicious food which matches and merges French and Asian flavours. Mouthwatering ceviche featured passion fruit and yellow kiwi. Pork came with a glossy sauce redolent of a Mexican mole. Dessert was a flavour bomb in the form of a ginger creme caramel. Vegetarian and vegan options available. Excellent wine and beer lists plus a choice of artisan pastis. Just go.
M Cl★★★★☆
A nice meal but not special . Apart from salads on the menu only a pork and fish choice for a main course. A red meat option would have been good. The mahi mahi was served in a bowl in a strong flavoured soy based sauce that was too much for it and overpowered its flavour . It’s great to put forward local producers but the blond beer I tried was average and I should have gone for a wine instead.

Absolutely — here’s a glowing but still classy review that sounds genuine rather than exaggerated:
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Absolutely exceptional! From the moment we arrived, everything was perfect. The food was simply outstanding beautifully presented, full of flavour, fresh, and cooked to perfection. You can genuinely taste the quality and care that goes into every dish.
The atmosphere is just as wonderful: warm, elegant and welcoming, with the perfect Vieux-Port Marseille vibe. It’s the kind of place where you can relax, enjoy your meal and immediately want to come back.
A special mention to the staff, who were incredibly polite, attentive and professional throughout our visit. Friendly without being intrusive, always smiling and making sure we had everything we needed. That level of hospitality really makes a difference.
Excellent food, beautiful ambiance and impeccable service honestly one of those restaurants that deserves every one of its five stars. A wonderful experience from beginning to end, and definitely a place I would recommend without hesitation. We will absolutely be back! ❤️

Absolutely incredible! The ramen was the freshest and most flavorful I’ve ever had. Our host, Ying, was so warm and welcoming, and the whole experience felt thoughtful and genuine. The mochi and drinks were outstanding too (the matcha is a must-try!). We came last week and came back again because it was just that good. A new gem. Highly recommended! 🍜✨

I had a great experience at Rice Street Vieux Port. The food was absolutely delicious – every dish was full of flavor and really well prepared. The prices are also very reasonable for the quality you get.
One thing we especially appreciated was the atmosphere. Compared to some of the neighboring restaurants, it was much calmer and quieter, without all the loud chatter, which made the meal even more enjoyable.
The service was wonderful as well. Everyone was very kind, attentive, and welcoming throughout our visit.
Highly recommended if you're looking for excellent food, friendly service, and a more relaxed dining experience in the Vieux Port area. 😊

It was a cold night and I was looking for hot ramen to warm me up! I decided to go to this place hoping for the best... and I was incredibly impressed. I had just been to Japan earlier this year and this was as close as one could get!! If you’re wondering where to get ramen… go here!!! There’s plenty of seating, inside and outside, and the vibes are good here. The server was very friendly and helpful. I loved it here. I will go back the next time I want a hot bowl of delicious ramen!!

First time trying cambodian food and it was glorious! We enjoyed all the appetizers but the soup with porc lacqué was incredible, same as the takoyaki.

Definitely a 5 stars from me! Pork spring rolls, beef noodle soup and Khmer stir fry with rice are all to die for.

Either the previous ratings are fake or the hostess ais the reason. We went there. The hostess was absent. The host was late. we didn't care, as long as the food is good. Unfortunately some items were seasonal and not available. Of all the available items, we ordered sczchuan cool noodle, disappointing as sczchuan people use specially processed noodle with heavy alkalined noodle which is more slippery , more yellowish, more chewy. this is not. Since noodle is the core, if you can't provide this type of noodle, you would rather not provide this cool noodle. We ordered rice noodle with sour soup, that requires wild tomato and litsea oil. If you don't have litsea oil then the rice noodle will not have that flavor. The dumpling with chili oil is way too salty but no chili oil at all.the today special Benton box is not good rice being fluffy. I did check reviews before. I feel either this restaurant is a bluff or as I can imagine the hostess being absent is the reason. I hope they can improve. This is way below my expectation and contradicts to the reviews
Mandy “MandyLLL” Luo★★★★★
The best and most authentic Chinese comfort food on my France trip. We had rice noodles, which tasted just like what I eat growing up. The noodle itself is fresh and of high quality, unlike in some other places that could be plasticky and overly chewy. Broth is homemade and so flavorful, my husband drank his beef broth to the last drop. Price is quite reasonable, highly recommended! Lemon tea is very good too. 好吃不贵, 老板老板娘都是纯纯中国人,鉴定完毕。

Highly recommended. The beef pho tastes great, and the couple running the shop are very nice. I think it's the best pho in Marseille.
Stephen S. Y. Wong★★★☆☆
It’s a Vietnamese noddle shop , combined with the banhmi shop.
Friendly staff, attentive and willing to try. They asked a few time on how things are. So do looks like they care.
Having lived in Vietnam prior I have tasted quite a bit of Vietnamese food. With the French connection to Vietnam and the population my expectation was higher.
The beef pho (noodle) I had, with good quality beef (tender) and beef balls, a bit more meat for the price of 14/5 euro would be nice.
The broth (the soup) needs more time to get the taste richer. Now is a bit bland, needs a richer soup. To save it I need to mix the lime/chilli and fish sauce to make it good.
The biggest problem is the noodle, it’s way too thick and chewy. Authentic one is much softer. Need re sourcing for that.
We also had a bowl of mix noddle. The spring roll was nice. And overall was good for that. It’s hard to be wrong as it’s cold noddle / mix with veggie and sauce only.
On the wall some deco. Mindful some of the pics are showing Japanese ramen and Chinese. Very common setting in Europe to mix it all up. Try replace with Vietnamese pic only. It’s like have Italian / German pics in a French Resturant people know you are not authentic.
Overall the shop can be improved with a few small twist. I hope they can try to maximize its potential.

We went there because we're at the shopping center but there is nothing special there, the food tastes really industrial especially the veggie, lack of narural taste and full of industrial curry sauce. So disappointed.

What can I tell you ... One of our dishes was not warm enough and the taste of both dishes was below average.
Dish 1 (yakisoba) : noodles were dry and bland taste
Dish 2 (Japanese curry) : I had two bites and didn't finish it (see picture)

Delicious food! Katsu curry is amazing😍 Gael was very friendly and helped us out with the translation on the menu🙏

We went there because the reviews were good but unfortunately it's a big disappointment. We couldn't believe how it was possible they had such good reviews. First, to begin with, you go there thinking you will eat nice Asian food, but so many options of the menu are tested out as unavailable. So for example all bubble teas weren't served anymore. Then we ordered and we were finally told that one of the meal wasn't available after we paid.
Finally we expected delicious food as per pictures and reviews, but the meals we ordered were simple rice bowl with an industrial sauce such as sweet chilly and some pieces of fried chicken. Nothing special, nothing really good made, everything looks industrial. No toppings to make the meal look well finished. So overall big disappointment.

This is one of our favorite places to relax and enjoy a good meal in a good company. We visit regularly and always have a wonderful experience. Since it's a Korean BBQ restaurant, we love ordering the meat for grilling and it is always fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented, with delicious marinades that make the experience even more enjoyable.
The rice, pajeon, and all the other dishes we've tried have been consistently excellent. The staff is always kind, welcoming, and attentive, creating a warm and friendly atmosphere.

Truly the highlight of our trip to Marseille. The staff was really friendly and helpful even though we did not speak French, the food was absolutely delicious, the prices were very good (we paid €30 per person for 2 full meals, two side dishes, drinks and desert) and above all it was a clean and neat place. We will be coming back!

This place is a bit hard to call authentic Korean food.
It feels more like Chinese-style Korean cuisine.
If you’re really looking for true Korean food, it probably won’t suit your taste.

We just had an incredible dinner here. The Mi Hoanh Thanh and Goi Cuon were both 10/10 — perfectly cooked with bold, explosive authentic flavors that tasted just like they do in Vietnam.

I saw a Marseillais food blogger on Instagram giving a very good review about Cô Bày and when I saw the restaurant while I was having errands in the Castellane area I told myself "It's easy to get there, I must return and try it!" So I did: I came with my husband and our 8mos old son and I can say I absolutely loved EVERYTHING about the experience. First of all the ambiance: it gives chill and exotic vibes and gave me the feels of immersing myself in Miss Saigon theatrical scenography. The service is superb, perfect in every detail. But the best part, of course, was the food. One of the things that impressed me when the food blogger talked about this resto was that the Chef is a woman that put all her passion on giving her personal interpretation of Vietnamese cuisine and let me tell you, you can feel all the love and dedication she had in reinventing these dishes. Everything we ordered was beautiful to the eye and most of all an explosion and perfect mix of different flavors that took the most famous foods of Vietnamese culinary tradition to another level. From entrée to dessert everything was so tasteful and special and also the excellent quality of the ingredients was evident. We even met the Cheffe and beyond cooking so extraordinarily, she is also really sweet and kind, and same goes for the staff that served us. I can't wait to come back bringing our friends with us. Loving asian food, this is one of the best we had here in Marseille, it's a must try!

I’ve been many Vietnamese restaurants before and so far this is the best one. The dishes are quite tasty, especially the fried squid starter. I also like the Bo Bun TANTAKY much but the portion was too much for me so we took away and finished in the evening. The owner is super friendly and dedicated. We are lucky to get the Vietnamese coffee and fruit cup for free. Thank you very much!

Great food, very delicious. The fried noodles were not what we expected to be (thought it would be thicker egg noodles), but still they tasted good. It was a one-man show for service but he was as efficient as he could have been.

Wow. What an amazing gem of a restaurant! The standard of authentic Vietnamese food was only matched by the stunning hospitality shown by the owner and host. This family run restaurant is exceptional and a must visit if you are in the vicinity. Thank you once again for the wonderful food and even better hospitality.

The best pho I’ve had in France so far.
There’s not much to say about this pho other than it’s amazing. Broth is packed with flavour, ingredients are all high quality and they even add crispy onions to top it off.
My only complaint would be that for the size you get, the pho is definitely overpriced but if you were to order their pho you would absolutely not be disappointed

It’s really tasty, the owner here is super friendly and nice, we had two meals here during our trip here. Ad every time when we here, the owner here gave us free drinks (self-made) for us. The food is too good to be true. This is the coco-nut curry that dish. It’s my favorite one

The food was okay but for the rice I recommend more potion because it's small, also too much crispy flakes

Very good food, corn dog was very Doughty and there were to much sauce on the chicken (my preference) the machine was very easy to order on and they had many options i wish it could be more, they had a boba ish category when I kicked in it was blanc so that was a bit disappointing but overall it went fast food were delicious and oots of space. The machines was clear with diffrent types of allergies but some things was a bit annoying to klick around because we didn't understand (we did translate it to English) but nice experience and i highly recommend.

Overall the experience was good. We liked the Bao burgers, fried chicken was nice. The only let down was the rice, too dry (maybe yesterday’s rice?).
Concept is good, all the Korean codes. Not sure about long term

There's a reason why you need a reservation for Le Toigue - it's authentic and incredible. The staff is so friendly and accommodating and the presentation of the food is superb. The dumplings in the bird nest was the cutest thing I've seen...and delicious too! It's safe to say that we've got a new favorite Thai restaurant in Marseille.

An authentic Thai restaurant in the south of France. Not only the food is authentic, but also the atmosphere, staffs, and decorating style. It's like a little Thailand in Marseille. The staffs are super friendly and helpful, Food is TOP! However park places are difficult to find in the area.

This Thai restaurant is a true gem! The food is incredibly authentic, bursting with flavor and beautifully presented. Every dish tastes fresh and perfectly balanced, just like you’d find in Thailand.
What really makes the experience special is the people — the staff are so personable, friendly, and always smiling, which makes you feel genuinely welcome. Their warm hospitality matches the quality of the food, and together it creates a wonderful dining atmosphere.
Highly recommended if you’re looking for authentic Thai cuisine served with heart!

The menu doesn't feature vegan options, but they will veganize your favourite dish! This is the best Thai restaurant in the south of France, serving real Thai food and 100% taste. I love going here.

Had a good lunch here on a hot day. My son search for ramen since he was craving Asian food and found this place. There is a parking garage close by, maybe a 3 min walk which was convenient.
We ordered gyoza and shrimp tempura for app, both good. For ramen, we ordered tan tan men and umi ramen, both delicious. Although I like tan tan men better since it’s a little spicy with ground pork veggie. Umi ramen was also good, it was full of mussels with great seafood flavor. The service was very attentive. Overall, I would recommend haiku and would come back again. If you are craving ramen, give this place a try

Very nice place to be on the cold day. Everyone from the door to the table was super attentive and helpful. We felt immediately the great hospitality and smiles.. very welcoming. Spacious on the upper floor as well as the ground floor. Food was fast and tasty. To me it’s a bit too salty for the ramen gambas. But overall is quite good.

We were warmly welcomed by the staff. We sat close to the ramen kitchen and we could see how it cooked.
The ramen & the broth was great & authentic, the Chashu pork was tasty & tender, and the best was the EGG!!!
We also ordered the YAKI BUTA NEGI. The pork was well marinated & soft. It melted in the month.
We will definitely come back again.

If you're craving authentic Asian cuisine in Marseille, Mmily is a must-try! This restaurant offers a fantastic variety of dishes, spanning Japanese, Thai, and Vietnamese flavors. It's a real treat to have so many options in one place.
I highly recommend their Pad Thai and Bò Bún – both were absolutely delicious. The sushi selection is also impressive, with a wide range of choices to satisfy any sushi lover.
What truly made my experience special was the warm and friendly service from the Asian staff. They were incredibly welcoming and helpful.
Overall, I can't recommend Mamily enough! It's a wonderful restaurant with delicious food and a lovely atmosphere.

A wonderful atmosphere with sweet and helpful staff. The food was delicious and filling. However, I wouldn't come here for the bubble tea and from their menu I was expecting more from the fruit salad. Overall, the main meals look so good and taste even better, very worth the price.

Absolutely fair price for the quality and amount of food that you get. They display the ingredients and make the bowls right in front of you.
Friendly and fast staff. *i apologize for breaking one of your pepper dispensers!
Japanese vibes especially in the top floor.
They also have ordering machines if you are the shy non social type.

I visited at 8 p.m. on a Saturday in late June. It was a bit hot upstairs. The food was great (I had cơm bò lúc lắc) – well seasoned, good portion, and reasonably priced (€15 for both a drink and a dish). The staff were really nice and friendly.
How to Choose the Right Asian Restaurant in Marseille
With so many excellent options, narrowing down where to eat can feel overwhelming. The key is to match your mood, group size, and neighborhood plans with the right style of cuisine. Marseille’s Asian restaurants vary widely in atmosphere, from quick noodle counters to elegant omakase counters.
Start by identifying the primary experience you want. Are you looking for a fast, affordable lunch between sightseeing stops, or a leisurely multi-course dinner to celebrate a special occasion? Vietnamese and Chinese eateries in the Noailles area often excel at the former, while Japanese and upscale Thai restaurants are better suited for the latter.
Consider your dining companions. Families with young children may prefer the casual, noisy energy of a Chinese banquet-style restaurant where sharing is encouraged. Couples seeking a quieter, more intimate meal should look for smaller sushi bars or Korean barbecue spots with table service. Solo diners will find the counters at ramen shops and pho houses particularly welcoming.
Think about dietary needs as well. Japanese and Vietnamese cuisines offer plenty of light, vegetable-forward and gluten-conscious options. Korean and Chinese menus can be more meat-centric, though most kitchens are happy to accommodate requests for no MSG or less spice. When in doubt, call ahead and ask.
Finally, trust the local rhythm. If you see a line of Marseille residents waiting outside a tiny storefront, that is usually a sign of something special. Some of the city’s best Asian meals happen in places with minimal decor but maximum flavor. Do not judge a restaurant by its facade; the real magic is in the wok, the broth, and the rice.
