Just a short stroll from the striking glass and iron facade of CosmoCaixa, the upper reaches of Barcelona unfold as a surprisingly rewarding food destination. While the science museum draws families, curious minds, and travelers from across the city, the surrounding neighborhoods of Sant Gervasi and Sarrià remain largely the preserve of locals. This means that the cafés and restaurants clustered around Avinguda del Tibidabo offer a far more relaxed, authentic experience than the bustling eateries of the Gothic Quarter or Eixample.
Whether you have spent the morning exploring the flooded forest exhibit or are simply looking for a reason to venture beyond the city center, the area’s culinary landscape is rich with variety. From traditional Catalan farmhouse cooking to modern brunch spots serving avocado toast, the dining options here cater to every craving. Because this district is residential, the quality of food is high, with establishments working hard to earn the loyalty of their regular neighborhood clientele.
Breakfast in Barcelona is often a simple affair of coffee and pastry, but the brunch culture has exploded in recent years. In this part of town, you will find a delightful fusion of both worlds. You can sit at a marble bar with elderly locals dipping churros into thick hot chocolate, or you can find a trendy, light-filled space offering specialty coffee, eggs benedict, and freshly squeezed juices. The area is particularly known for its excellent bakeries and artisan coffee roasters.
One of the great pleasures of dining near CosmoCaixa is the access to outdoor terraces and the quieter pace of life. Many restaurants are situated on sloping, tree-lined streets, offering views of the iconic Tramvia Blau route or the distant Mediterranean Sea. The air feels cleaner up here, away from the traffic of the center, making a leisurely brunch feel like a genuine retreat rather than a rushed refueling stop.
When selecting the best spots for this guide, we focused on a blend of quality, atmosphere, and proximity to the museum. We considered not only the creativity of the menu but also the consistency of the service and the comfort of the seating—essential factors when you are traveling with tired children or recovering from a morning of walking. The goal is to provide you with reliable options that suit different budgets and tastes, from quick bites to indulgent feasts.
Because this area is not a typical tourist trap, you will notice that many menus feature seasonal ingredients sourced from Catalan markets. Traditional dishes like pa amb tomàquet (bread rubbed with tomato), Iberian ham, and local cheeses feature heavily, often elevated with a modern twist. For those with a sweet tooth, the patisseries in this district are among the best in the city, offering everything from flaky croissants to intricate cakes.
To help you navigate the options, we have curated a list of the ten best places to eat breakfast or brunch within walking distance of the museum. Whether you are looking for a strong espresso and a pastry to go, or a long, sociable lunch that blends into the afternoon, you will find an option below that fits the bill perfectly.

Reviewing brunch spots is somewhat of a new challenge, especially in a city like Barcelona, where there are hundreds of them and many feel like variations of the same concept.
The real secret to a good brunch review lies in the subtleties: textures, presentation, and balance of flavors,as well as, of course, the courtesy of the staff.
Nonna’s brunch is, so far, the best I’ve had in Barcelona. The Hollandaise sauce was impeccably velvety, and the eggs Benedict split and bled in a way that felt almost miraculous. The toppings are more than generous. The bread had a distinctly homemade crunch, far removed from anything artificial. The mushroom and egg toast came with a tartar-style sauce that elevated the entire dish (and, quite frankly, my day).
The coffee also deserves a mention. I was genuinely surprised by how good the oat milk cappuccino was, and let’s be honest, oat milk coffee doesn’t always deliver.
As promised, a note on the staff: consistently kind, and more importantly, genuinely cheerful, even when the place was full.
I’ll definitely be coming back regularly for that oat milk cappuccino.

We found this place because it was near our hotel and what a lovely find. The food was delicious and plentiful. They have food coffee, mimosas and other fresh beverages for breakfast/brunch. We had a large group of 6 and they were able to accommodate. The service was quick, friendly and the price was well worth everything we had. We had French toast, eggs Benedict, pancakes and the chicken sandwich - we couldn’t find any pics so it’s the only one I’m posting. The wait staff is lovely. Don’t miss going here if you’re in the area - definitely worth the trip.

Sooooo yummy. The cafe is super cute inside and outside. The staff were all very friendly and nice to chat with. I had an iced latte and really enjoyed it. The turkish eggs were great. The french toast was also very yummy, maybe could have just used a little more syrup. Loved it all! Would totally recommend

This small brunch spot is perfect. Menu has enough options for anyone, service time can vary though wasn’t too high for me. Good ambiance, not too loud, you can easily talk. The food is great, the photos speak for themselves.

Great coffee, delicious brunch dishes. The gluten free bread is tasty and the veggies are so fresh. Solid brunch spot. Best cortado of my trip so far.

Was probably the best breakfast I had while on holiday. Staff was attentive, food came quickly and was delicious, and had a nice seating area to relax and enjoy.

Beautiful little place, staff are so friendly and accommodating. The food is absolutely delicious (we had eggs benedict, it was unreal) and their smoothies are lovely. I would highly suggest a visit here when coming to see the sagarda familia.

Came here twice for breakfast during my stay in Barcelona. The food was fresh, tasty, and there were great healthier options to choose from. I really appreciated the early hours and that there are eggs on the menu! There are even gluten free items. Great option for early breakfast before hitting the sights like la Sagrada Familia. Indoor and outdoor seating. VERY clean and comfortable bathroom. Great prices. But best of all was the courteous service. Will recommend to other friends traveling to the area.

We spent the week in Barcelona and found this gem of a restaurant. We had Tim as a server every morning. He was fantastic! Very friendly, accommodating and always greeted us with a smile. Honestly we went back every day because of him. The food is delicious and has a wonderful selection to choose from. The cappuccino is to die for. If you’re in the area it’s a must try!!!

I had a very delicious breakfast and was extremely satisfied. The food was great, and the experience was truly enjoyable.
A special thanks to the waiter — he was incredibly kind, friendly, and attentive to the customers. He made the atmosphere feel warm and welcoming.
I will definitely recommend this place to my friends and family.

I went to Breakfast Club Brunch Barcelona with a group of friends for brunch, and overall the experience was a bit mixed. When we arrived, the atmosphere felt quite chaotic. The staff were clearly overwhelmed and running around, which made the service feel disorganized. We had to wait a while before getting our table, even though it wasn’t extremely busy.
Once seated, we noticed that the table was quite small for four people, making it a little uncomfortable, especially once the food and drinks arrived. Speaking of drinks, they were fine nothing exceptional, but decent and enjoyable.
For food, I ordered the eggs Benedict. They were okay, but honestly nothing memorable. I’ve had much better and tastier versions elsewhere, especially considering the reputation of the place. The vegetables that came with the dish were undercooked, which was disappointing and took away from the overall plate.
In the end, the experience wasn’t bad, but it didn’t fully meet expectations. The place has potential, but better organization, more attentive service, and some improvements in food quality would make a big difference. Given the hype around this spot, I expected more.

Really good food! We were in the area and ended up here after reading the reviews and we were not disappointed. Glad we’ve tried it!

Great breakfast place. We were seated immediately (just a 1 minute wait on a Sunday morning) with group of 3.
Eggs Benedict were tasty (local variant that i liked), great advocado toast as the 'el rancherito' toast with pulled pork.
Large portion and freshly made. Recommended

We had an incredible experience when we visited for breakfast. The staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful, and they provided excellent service.
I ordered the shakshuka, which paired perfectly with their orange matcha cooler. The Spanish latte they serve here was fantastic.
They're dog friendly and also offer outdoor seating. I highly recommend that anyone visiting the city stop by here!

The perfect brunch spot. After a few days here, it is the first meal we throughouly enjoyed. The turkish eggs and the burrata breakfast were both amazing. Smoothie was also great. All that at a fair price point. Highly recommend:) there's also two very cute dogs just casually chilling around sleeping and saying hi to customers!

Excellent small cafe very worthy of seeking out. We stopped in for lunch; there was a wait but well worth it. We ordered the Shakshuka Halloumi, it was healthy, satisfying, very comforting. The sauce was right amount of seasoning, very flavorful and served hot. The Trufada iberica was served on hearty bread, eggs cooked just right. A generous amount of ham on top, greens and the truffle paste all combined for a flavorful & satisfying meal. The Carioca smoothie was perfect protein smoothie on a hot day. The Vitamina juice was delicious and felt very fortifying. The staff at the juice bar never stopped working. Our server was super welcoming & spoke English for us. He was prompt and attentive to us and they were very busy.

Fantastic restaurant! The food was absolutely delicious, and every dish was prepared with great care. We especially appreciated that the restaurant is dog-friendly, which made our visit even more enjoyable. The atmosphere was welcoming, the service was excellent, and the staff were kind and attentive. We had a wonderful experience and would definitely visit again!

Every single dish was a hit. It’s a pet friendly place, where the owner also kept his dogs in the store and of cos they named their store after their lovely dogs. We loved all the food that we ordered, especially the Protein Turkish eggs that was paired with their sourdough.. maybe I need more bread for the dip! The dips were soooo good, flavored with nuts and a tiny bit of spice (red pepper oil) that enhances all the flavours. And I got to learn it’s their local romesco sauce - a vibrant, smoky, nutty Spanish condiments originated from Catalonia region. I wiped out every drop of the sauce.
Service was excellent, we were a big group but they try to put us together whenever possible so we could share all the amazing food orders and get to taste every single one on the menu.
Thank you for having us. I love everything on the menu and to learn new flavour where culture’s involved, delighted my soul.

Best brunch place I have been to in a while. I can definitely understand why people stand in queue to catch a table here:). We enjoyed some really high quality coffees and dirty chai lattes. Our food was ready super quick and the staff was so nice and helpful. The ingredients were really fresh and the plates were beautifully presented. My mom is gluten-free and she was really happy that they had something for her. The black corn waffle instead of the regular one was a one of a kind taste, it really complementet the rest of the Bennis Avocado. The c&s burrito I ordered was amazing with its melted cheese and tomato sauce, I couldn't recommend it enough! It was a wonderful meal to end our trip in Barcelona. We will definitely be back!🙌

Very fast service and competent staff. Fago was quite kind and helpful.
The food is ok but could be improved a little, especially a better bread for the eggs Benedict. The potatoes were a little undercooked. Overall a pleasant experience.

This place was the highlight of my trip!
I came everyday for brunch, got a billy mug gifted as a loyal customer haha, and had the best service and the most delicious food. I would eat eggs benedict and Zoara’s smoothie everyday if I could, thank you so much!🥰

All was perfect! Since we arrived we wanted to get the outside tables (that always get sun for the mornings), but the terrace was full! The waiters were super nice in remembering it though and we were able to get a table shortly after we got our table inside which was great! Huge thanks to João who was super nice and very attentive! He made our brunch even nicer!
Food super good, it's one of my go to spots for brunch here in Barcelona!

My friend and I came here for breakfast and had a really great experience. We ordered two dishes: one bread with mushrooms and one toast with scrambled eggs. Both portions were very generous for the price, and everything tasted really delicious. The food was fresh and flavorful, and we were pleasantly surprised by how much we got.
The service was also extremely kind and welcoming, especially Joāo, who took great care of us and made us feel very comfortable.
Overall, it was a lovely breakfast spot and we would definitely come back.

Honestly one of my favourite moments of being in Barcelona was here! As a Sex and the City fan (but not only, my friend didn't watch the show and she still loved the place) I found the place amazing, full of references and so aesthetic. The food was amazing, tasty and we didn't wait much, so were the drinks. We expected it to be very busy, we arrived around 1 pm and even though we had made a reservation it was not needed as the place wasn't busy. At some point me and my friend were the only one there. We had so much fun, we took photos everywhere and the most fun part was the gossip book, where we could write or read anonymous gossips. You can also get a free drink if you post the gossip on Instagram. We stayed there for two hours and would have stayed more, we really felt amazing. The staff also made everything better, Markus (I hope I wrote his name right) was so nice to us, really kind and he made us feel really welcome. I definitely recommend the place and I would have loved to come back there if we had enough time, but we definitely will in the future! ❤️💋
For reference, we had brunch, coffee and desert (pancakes) and we expected to pay a lot, but the price was surprinsingly reasonable.

Delicious food and very nice staff. I had Brunch by Nanny and an iced caramel latte, then we shared Petrovsky for dessert. The eggs and bacon were perfectly cooked and were good quality products, the avocado also perfectly chosen. The latte was very tasty and not too sweet, which is always a nice touch, especially for a latter with caramel. As for Petrovsky, the Spanish menu described the dish as brioche-based, which we found a bit confusing. I think syrniki as in the web menu would have been a better description. They were tasty and not too sweet, the fruits were very fresh and tasty and the English cream nice, but if we had known they were syrniki and not brioche we might have gone for the pancakes today. They were still tasty though. Well balanced and tasty altogether, especially for a themed cafe, which I found surprising 😊.

A Brunch Experience Worth Talking About!
A special mention to Henry, the owner, who is absolutely fabulous and incredibly stylish. From the moment we arrived, he made us feel so welcome with his warm personality, attention to detail, and genuine hospitality. He truly sets the tone for an unforgettable experience.
I had an amazing time at Brunch and The City. The restaurant is beautifully inspired by Sex and the City, with stylish décor and a fun atmosphere that perfectly captures the spirit of the iconic series. It’s the perfect spot for brunch with friends, a special occasion, or simply treating yourself.
The food was absolutely delicious, and I highly recommend the Mr. Big dish with avocado. Every bite was full of flavor, and the presentation was excellent.
If you’re looking for one of the best brunch spots in Barcelona, this place is a must-visit. Great food, amazing vibes, and outstanding hospitality from Henry. I’ll definitely be back!
Nadzeya Marchukevich★★★☆☆
A cozy place, and the service was very fast despite the venue being fully booked.
I don’t understand how the place is connected to the TV series, apart from the names and the photos on the walls — there’s no real unifying concept.
As for the food: the oat-milk coffee was tasty. My friend liked the dish in photo #1, but the potatoes were too salty. The dish in photo #2 is more complicated — the first bite is very tasty, but halfway through it becomes too greasy and salty, and I couldn’t finish it.
Marta Horňáková★★★★★
An absolutely perfect place! The atmosphere was fantastic, the staff were incredibly friendly, and the food was simply outstanding. I would definitely come back!

Manifest Inspiring Brunch felt less like a trendy cafe and more like my new favorite Barcelona living room. Sitting in the trendy relaxed cafe, I completely fell for their beautifully presented, massive vegan breakfast and perfectly spiced hot chai latte. The staff treated me like family from the first hello, making it the perfect cozy escape right near the Sagrada Família.

The food was fine, coffee was good, very nice customer service in a very Instagram friendly setting.
I had the avocado toast and it was lacking in something. Perhaps salt to cut the lemon juice? Not sure. It was a beautiful meal tho! The bread wasn't toasted, it was just a thick slice of white bread, lacking in flavor and there was just so much of it. For being the vehicle for the avocado, you don't have to do much but just a little toast would be nice to give a contrast to the soft avocado. There were pumpkin seeds and some nuts, very good, but not enough to make the avocado toast a stand out.
Husband had the salmon eggs Benedict which he enjoyed.
I would be happy to go back, but would just try something different.
Portions are plenty!

Their coffee ☕️ is delicious too, and the seating area is great.

The staff were smiling and welcoming, and the overall atmosphere of the restaurant was really lovely.

Amazing cafe in Barcelona. Boutique vibe and unbelievable chef creations for a brunch that will surpass others. Delicious smoothies and rich espresso. Staff was very attentive and kind. My only criticism was felt pressure to tip higher percentages when paying. The server specifically pointed out the higher % amounts and watched. It was odd. Will come back though as food was worth it

We had the absolute best kind of brunch. The food was absolutely delicious! This is one of those popular brunch spots in Barcelona so we had to wait for about 5-8mins as they were full. However once we got in, it took a bit of time for the servers to get our orders since it was busy. The food came out super quick. I had the classic bennie with the black corn waffle and I added pulled pork. Hubby had the B&C burrito with pulled pork, absolutely delicious. Portions are big, we could have literally shared one meal. For drinks we had the matcha latte and dirty chai latte. I really think I’ll be going back tomorrow for the carrot cupcake!

went this time with my darling Genevieve! I travelled here last year to a different location - but the service is excellent and equal. Will come back, I recommend everyone to go and without dogs or with is very relaxing. Great air conditioning and WiFi, good space to take a break from the city

It was our first time here and we absolutely loved it. The place is really cute, the food and drinks are amazing. The service is great. It's a fancier place and bit on the pricier side, but you get big portions, so it pays off.
I only have one thing to critize and that is that regular pancakes with nothing but Nutella cost more than the ones on the menu, bc they take the special pancakes' price and add "+Nutella", which is crazy in my opinion, as you get charged for sth you didn't get.
Practical Tips for Breakfast Near CosmoCaixa
Dining in this residential district is a pleasure, but a little local knowledge can make your experience even smoother. The pace of life here is distinct from the tourist center, and understanding the rhythms of the neighborhood will help you eat like a local. Here are some essential tips to ensure you get the most out of your morning meal near the museum.
1. Mind the local breakfast hours.
While brunch spots often open around 9:00 AM, traditional Catalan cafés may only serve coffee and pastries early, with kitchens not firing up for savory dishes until 1:00 PM. If you are an early riser looking for eggs or a full English breakfast, stick to the dedicated brunch restaurants on the list rather than traditional bars.
2. Book ahead on weekends.
Sant Gervasi is a family neighborhood, and brunch is a sacred weekend ritual for locals. The most popular spots fill up quickly between 11:00 AM and 1:00 PM, especially those with outdoor terraces. Calling ahead or booking online can save you a long wait, particularly if you are visiting with a group or have young children in tow.
3. Consider the hilly terrain.
The area surrounding CosmoCaixa and Avinguda del Tibidabo is famously steep. While most of the restaurants listed are within a 10 to 15-minute walk, some routes involve significant inclines. Wear comfortable shoes, and if you are pushing a stroller or have mobility concerns, consider taking a short taxi or bus ride to your chosen venue.
4. Don’t skip the bakeries.
Some of the best breakfast experiences in this district are not sit-down restaurants but traditional forns de pa (bakeries). Many offer a small counter area where you can enjoy a café amb llet and a freshly baked pastry for a fraction of the price of a brunch plate. This is the most authentic way to start the day like a Catalan.
5. Combine your meal with a local landmark.
To make the most of your trip up the mountain, pair your breakfast with a visit to the nearby Parc de la Tamarita or the historic Tramvia Blau terminus. Eating a takeaway pastry in the gardens or watching the vintage tram pass by adds a layer of charm to the experience that you simply won’t find in the city center.
The area around CosmoCaixa offers a refreshing change of pace from the crowded lanes of Barcelona’s old town. It is a place where you can hear the clinking of coffee cups over conversation rather than the roar of tour buses, and where the food is prepared with the care that comes from serving a regular, discerning clientele. Taking the time to explore these streets is a reward in itself.
Whether you are fueling up before a day of scientific discovery or winding down after it, the breakfast and brunch scene here delivers on all fronts. From the first sip of a perfectly pulled espresso to the last bite of a buttery pastry, you will find that this corner of Barcelona nourishes both body and spirit in equal measure.
