12 Best Bakeries Near CosmoCaixa Barcelona

After a morning spent exploring the wonders of science at CosmoCaixa, from the flooded Amazonian forest to the interactive touch-and-play exhibits, an appetite inevitably starts to build. The museum is nestled at the foot of Tibidabo in the Sarrià-Sant Gervasi district, an upscale residential area known for its quiet streets and quality local commerce. While the immediate vicinity feels peaceful and removed from the tourist crowds of the Gothic Quarter, you do not have to travel far to find exceptional baked goods.

Barcelona takes its bread and pastries very seriously, and the neighborhoods surrounding this iconic museum are no exception. Whether you are looking for a flaky, buttery croissant to enjoy on a bench, a crusty loaf of pa de pagès to take home, or a decadent slice of cake to reward the kids for good behavior, the local forns (bakeries) and patisseries deliver. The area offers a mix of traditional Catalan establishments that have been perfecting their recipes for generations and modern artisan workshops pushing the boundaries of sourdough and viennoiserie.

Understanding the local baking culture enhances the experience. In Catalonia, a "forn de pa" is traditionally a bread bakery, often selling simple sweet pastries, while a "pastisseria" focuses on finer cakes, tarts, and confections. You will also find modern "boulangeries" or "obradors" that blend French techniques with Catalan ingredients. Knowing what you are craving—a savory snack, a sweet treat, or a quality loaf—will help you choose the perfect spot among the options near the museum.

To help you navigate the options, we have curated a list of the best bakeries within walking distance or a short tram ride from CosmoCaixa. This guide focuses on quality, authenticity, and proximity, ensuring you do not waste precious sightseeing time on mediocre pastries. We have prioritized places that offer not just great food but also a genuine sense of local life, allowing you to taste the neighborhood’s character.

Each entry below has been selected based on the quality of ingredients, the skill of the bakers, and the overall value for visitors. You will find a mix of high-end pastry chefs and humble neighborhood staples. Whether you are fueling up before heading up to Tibidabo or winding down after the museum’s planetarium, these spots offer the perfect bite.

Here are the best spots to satisfy your carb cravings near CosmoCaixa, arranged roughly by their proximity and unique appeal to visitors in this part of Barcelona.

Had a great experience today at Manolo Bakes thanks to Horia and March. The service was super fast, they are always smiling, very friendly, and they speak good English 😄, which made things easy and comfortable. They really made the visit enjoyable and welcoming. Big thanks to them for the excellent service — it definitely made my day! Also, thanks to Horia for his help with a little translation from Catalan to English!

We always enjoy coming to this coffee shop! The service is excellent, and the staff are always welcoming, polite, and attentive. The coffee is consistently delicious, and they offer a great variety of fresh pastries, baked goods, and sweets. Everything we’ve tried has been wonderful. It’s the kind of place that makes you want to come back again and again. Highly recommended! ✨✨✨

Top spot for bread, a quick coffee and treats! Everything here is really, really good. Their breads are a masterclass in baking, and the chocolate cookie is easily one of the best around, good quality ingredients. Good coffee, too! Definitely worth a stop if you're looking for a tasty treat done right.
Julie Kuhrt★★★★★
These pastries were amazing! I was skeptical at first (as they are on the pricier side), but honestly they are worth it. You can tell they really put thought and care into the flavors they choose. And I’ll be dreaming about that rhubarb pastry. The focaccia is also super fluffy.
Beata Kanya★★★★★
Great service, amazing pastry! Light and fluffy, not too sweet at all. Loaded with fresh strawberries, and the hint of lemon was such a pleasant suprise! Definitely recommend!
Charlie Liu★★★★★
Vanilla roll is very good. The custard filling is satisfying and not too sweet. Bun could be more soft though.
Beth Hughes★★★★★
So nice I had it twice! The crème Catalan pastry was insanely good, I went back 2 days later for another one. Gooey custard and flakey buttery super fresh pastry. Honestly in the top 5 pastries of my life. Coffee was great too. Went to two locations both good.

Very nice and elaborated pastries. They have a lot of different flavors and shapes. The staff is very kind and professional. The dark moon was nice very chocolate, with a good mix of all the flavors from the external part to the inside mousse. The pistachio was interesting. The pistachio mousse with the crusty pistachio was very good. Not sweet and feel very good. However the inside marmalade of orange, passionfruit and yuzu was good on its own while the mix of this flavor with pistachio together was not the best mix i was able to test. The outside shape was very good, white chocolate with valrhona chocolate for sure. Anyway, taste and flavors are very personal, hence it is best for you to try and make your own opinion In all case this is a very good pastry for Barcelona, price are on the upper side as you can expect for this kind of work. The pistachio (festuc) was 14 euros The dark moon was 9 euros The cheesecake was 9 euros The 10 blueberries financier were 13,50 euros The kouign amann was 2,30 euros The roll of pistachio and orange was 7,50 euros As well to take in mind, if you order through delivery service app like Glovo, the price are 10% more expensive than public price in the shop. Probably they do that to save gross margin on the Glovo commission fees. Not very ethical but why not, most restaurants seems to do that.

We visited Patisserie Hofmann with pretty high expectations, given its popularity. The location is excellent and very convenient—easy to find while walking around the area. Another major plus is the pricing; for such a well-known brand, the prices are completely reasonable and affordable. Service was also on point; the staff worked quickly, so you don't have to wait in line for too long, which is always a pleasant surprise. Visually, the pastries and cupcakes look absolutely stunning. They immediately catch your eye with their beautiful presentation, vibrant colors, and rich toppings, making you expect an explosion of flavor. Unfortunately, that's exactly where the disappointment lay. The cupcakes themselves were quite dry on the inside, even though they look incredibly moist and juicy at first glance. The texture definitely didn't live up to their promising appearance. The main downside, however, is the space. The interior is extremely cramped and tiny, with only about three available seats. Because of this, it's almost impossible to sit down comfortably to enjoy a cup of coffee or eat your treats on-site. It feels much more like a grab-and-go concept, which slightly takes away from the overall experience. Great presentation and location, but the dry taste and lack of seating leave you with rather mixed feelings.

Edible art at its finest!!! DELICIOUS! Would make an incredible gift! Beautifully ornate, immaculate presentation that comes in an aesthetic gift box and bag. Honestly the most delicious desserts!!! I tried the “Limited Edition” and the “Festuc” (Pistachio). WOW AMAZING! I loved both! Absolutely worth the money. I got these as takeout to go.
summermirim★★★★★
The pastries at Hofmann Bakery were the best I’ve ever had. They were incredibly flaky, soft, and delicious. My favorites were the pistachio and orange pastries, and I also tried the plain one. Everything was amazing—highly recommended! 😋
Laura Ballard★★★★★
Incredible pastries and patisserie, kind of glad it's here otherwise it would be taking my money regularly! I ordered a cheesecake croissant and mascapone croissant (recommended by the lady as it's their best seller) they both were filled perfectly. The cheesecake had a lovely balance between the tartness of the fruit against the cream filling. The mascapone croissant I could fully understand why it's their best seller, again not too sweet and lovely balance (I like to warm my pastries up) so made it extra special. I also ordered dark moon and romantic and honestly such beautiful patisserie. The romantic was my favourite out of the two but it brought back childhood flavours for me. Definitely recommend the romantic if you like white chocolate and raspberry. I really wanted to try the strawberries and cream as well because that looked delicious!

Stopped here while visiting La Boqueria and it was a great choice. The cappuccino was perfectly made and the egg breakfast sandwich was fresh, flavorful, and satisfying. Everything came out quickly and the service was genuinely friendly. A really nice place to start your morning

Buenos Días 😃 Our first trip to Barcelona has been amazing so far! 🤩 We stopped at Amapola Fleca i Café for breakfast, and it did not disappoint. The food was delicious, fresh, and very affordable. We ordered churros with hot chocolate ☕️😋 (I forgot to take pictures, so I borrowed a photo of someone else’s churros lol), a croissant 🥐, chicken and spicy empanadas, a ham deli sandwich, a café au lait, and a cappuccino, everything was excellent. What really stood out was the AMAZING service 🤩. The staff was incredibly friendly, welcoming, and patient, which made the experience even better. I highly recommend stopping by if you’re in Barcelona and looking for a great breakfast spot!

I visited Amapola Fleca i Cafè right on La Rambla, and it was a highlight of my trip! The waitress was so helpful and her recommendations were spot on. The Cappuccino Flavors was the perfect treat, and the pistachio alfajor was absolutely delicious. I also tried the ham and cheese croissant, which was fresh and flaky, and topped it all off with a superb Crema Catalana. Everything was so good! If you are walking down La Rambla, this café is a must-visit for a quick bite or a sweet treat.
Casa Aqua de Azul★★★★★
Food is still great and the new carry boxes are perfect for take away. The new ice drinks are also a great addition for the summer. I got a new Iced Match Orange drink today and I thought ok I will try it. I watched her make a fresh Match with hot tea and a match whisk. A+ Then. it looked exactly like the photo. A++ But I got distracted by starting this Google review as I saw the review sign so I didnt see how she made the rest but I didn't need to. I am not usually one who goes in for cool tricks with food (well sometimes, when not expected, and this was not expected.) 3rd. I placed the straw in and it exploded ! I thought i would have to stir it.....but it just exploded in the cup and mixed itself. I was cool. The color before was prettier as it turned i not this green smoothie color but still the unexpected essential of it was WOW! But the BEST part was last of all which gives this drink AAAA++++ I took a drink of this and it was an explosion in my mouth of flavors. Super fresh! I saw a TikTik for Matcha and Watermelon the other day and thought "oh that could be interesting" well now I am making mi esposa make it for me. You have to try this drink! Enjoy
Beckie Phanh★★★★★
I got a croissant and an iced coffee with vanilla. It was so yummy and such a great price! Definitely recommend stopping by for breakfast. They also had really good looking breakfast sandwiches but since I was on a time crunch I only grabbed a quick croissant. Def worth stopping by if you’re in La Rambla!!

Cute little bakery near La Boqueria if you want to grab a coffee and walk around the market and shop. They had a nice variety of pastries, sandwiches, and other breakfast items. They had juices, matchas and coffee (hot or iced). The service was great as well. There's a little spot you can eat downstairs if you didn't want to walk around with your food item.

Amazing experience at this little cafe. We went in as the sandwiches looked amazing from the outside. I had a ham and Brie salad one, it was the best sandwich I have ever ate. I had an iced vanilla coffee and again… best coffee i have ever had. It was so good we went back the next day for another coffee and some more food. Amazing value for money too! Staff were so friendly and recommended things to do!

Super kind local type spot. We have gone twice now with very great consistency and definitely order the caramel iced latte ! The ham and Brie sandwich was like an elevated BLT. The cuts are beautiful from a culinary student prospective. Line moves rather fast if there is one. Def stop in!

Such a great cafe! The vibe is incredibly warm, cozy, and laid back. I ordered an entrepà, and it was very tasty, excellent quality with freshly baked bread and generous portions of jamón and arugula. You can truly tell they put a lot of love into their food. The service was friendly and efficient, too. It seems like a perfect spot to enjoy with love ones or to bring a laptop, so I’ll be back during the week to work for a bit and try more of their sandwiches and pastries. Highly recommend!

A wonderful stay in Barcelona! The pantry was one of the highlights—great selection and a warm, welcoming atmosphere. Special thanks to Ali at the bakery for the friendly service, and to our Italian friend at check-in who made us feel right at home from the start. Ali and friends did a great job packing our pastry to take back to ny. The rooms were clean, comfortable, and well-maintained, and overall the staff was excellent throughout our stay. One small suggestion: the coffee and cappuccino could be a bit stronger and served hotter—but still enjoyable! Would definitely return and recommend to others visiting this beautiful city.

A legendary bakery in Barcelona! And truly, I haven't eaten bread like this in years, if not ever in my life! Excellent sandwiches, coffee, and what we love most: the daily rush of people stopping by before school, before work, or on their way to classes. And the absolutely delightful staff—young, helpful, polite, and fluent in English, patient with our attempts at conversation in Spanish!

we ate fresh bread from here for lunch on the beach and it was amazing. the olive oil loaf was delicious and we had the cutest kalamata olive baton i've ever seen. staff super kind and the bread selection was amazing. gracias!

This is hands down the best bakery in Barcelona! It's lively every morning, but absolutely worth the wait. The seating is cozy and limited, yet the charm and energy of the place make up for it. Prices are reasonable, and the fresh pastries and sandwiches are delightful--they even offer the option to toast or heat up the sandwiches. The coffee and cappuccinos are fantastic, too. You can watch the bakers at work through the windows, and the smell of freshly baked bread fills the air. I highly recommend starting your day with breakfast here!

The sandwiches are amazing and very filling! The place is decorated in beautiful yellow tones, creating a warm and lively atmosphere. Highly recommended! 🥪💛

The best bread in town! Very welcoming staff. Absolute love and recommendation

Best breads in the city without a doubt! Their baguettes are incredible so do other breads and bakery. You can buy ready sandwiches for a picnic at the Barceloneta beach but you can also buy a bread and complement the stuff from supermarket to make your own sandwiches, as I like with mozzarella, avocado and tomato. They also have a cafe just across the street where you can buy coffee and pastries, which is also possible to have a seat and chat or work.

Their window is so mouthwatering, a feast for the eyes. I didn’t expect to see savory items early in the morning but they had pizza along the wide variety of sweet treats. I took a matcha and cinnamon roll (which i found a bit dry) and the service was very friendly. I didn’t realize when I came in the morning but the place is pretty popular, as is saw a queue in the afternoon.

Found this cookie shop via TikTok… 🍪 It was much quieter than I expected in all fairness. They did have an array of beautiful cookies with different flavorings and designs. I believe it was 4 cookies for €16 if I am right. The cookies were okay, a little dry, but okay!
ChunkyCherry★★☆☆☆
I went here for some late-night cookies. It wasn’t even that late, around 8 PM. They had a nice, large selection of different types of topped cookies, which looked great. The staff asked if I wanted my cookie heated, and I said yes. They warmed it up for me, but to be honest, I just wasn’t impressed at all. The cookie was still super dry, even after being heated. And that’s kind of the biggest issue for me. How do you even make a cookie dry? On top of that, the service wasn’t great either. Just not a very good overall experience. Not much more to say. It just didn’t deliver.
Kateryna★★★★★
Very tasty, moderately sweet and delicate. The raspberries add a touch of tartness, complementing it very well🥰

Pizza is better than the cookies. The service is great! You'll be fine if you dont go here but im not mad I did. Also to all my fellow tourists... stop being rude. Why are you like that? Be kind, be patient and be better.

Best gluten free bakery in Barcelona! We were lucky that our accomm was nearby but what a gem. You won’t believe it’s GF. Best baguette and quiche to die for. We bought for a picnic and a train trip leaving Barcelona. Don’t miss this fabulous spot. Coffee is excellent too.

By far. The best bakery patisserie I have ever been too. I just regret not eating more. I am in Paris now and the GF bakeries here don’t hold a candle to Jansana. Such friendly staff too. Their GF is the best. Totally worth it to go out of your way to have GF at Jansana. P S. The quiche is out of this world. Thank you for making my gf food experience perfection. 5 stars ⭐️

A wonderful small pastry shop that is 100% gluten free. I have no issues with gluten and the spinach quit was as good as any quiche I’ve had. The coffee was very good too. My wife completely enjoyed her croissant.

Tips for Enjoying Bakeries Near CosmoCaixa

To make the most of your bakery crawl in the upper reaches of Barcelona, a little local knowledge goes a long way. The rhythm of the day here differs slightly from the tourist center, and knowing when to go can mean the difference between a warm, fresh pastry and a slightly stale one. Here are five practical tips to ensure you eat like a local and get the best value for your money.

  1. Time Your Visit for Mid-Morning: Local bakeries in residential areas like Sarrià-Sant Gervasi typically bake their first batch of bread and pastries very early, but a second wave of fresh goods often comes out around 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. This is the sweet spot for finding warm croissants and freshly filled xuixos, just as the morning rush has subsided.

  2. Look for the "Forn" Label: While trendy boulangeries are fantastic, do not overlook the traditional "Forn de Pa." These establishments are the backbone of Catalan baking. Look for the word "Forn" on the sign; these spots usually offer the best value for money on classic breads, savory coca de forner, and simple chocolate croissants that locals actually buy daily.

  3. Try a Coca, Not Just a Croissant: While French pastries are ubiquitous, challenge your palate with a Catalan specialty. Ask for a "coca de llardons" (a flaky, sweet bread with pork cracklings and pine nuts) or a savory "coca de recapte" (topped with roasted vegetables). It is a far more authentic representation of the region than a standard pain au chocolat.

  4. Cash is Often King (or Card Minimums Apply): While most modern bakeries near the museum accept credit cards, some of the smaller, traditional family-run forns have a minimum spend for card transactions (often €5 or €10). Carry a few euros in cash to avoid missing out on a great pastry or having to buy extra bread you might not need just to hit the limit.

  5. Bring Your Own Coffee Strategy: Many traditional bakeries are takeaway-focused with no seating. If the bakery does not have a café area, purchase your pastries to go and walk a few blocks to one of the many public benches or small squares in the area. The streets surrounding the museum are quiet and leafy, offering a much more peaceful coffee-and-pastry break than a crowded café.

Exploring the bakeries near CosmoCaixa offers a delicious glimpse into the daily life of Barcelona’s upper districts, far removed from the tourist traps of Las Ramblas. It is an opportunity to slow down, practice your Catalan greetings, and taste the craftsmanship that defines this city’s culinary identity. By choosing a mix of traditional forns and modern artisan spots, you can turn a simple snack into a cultural experience.

Whether you are tearing into a crusty baguette filled with Iberian ham or savoring the delicate layers of a butter croissant, the area surrounding the science museum provides plenty of fuel for your adventures. Take your time, chat with the bakers if the line allows, and enjoy the simple pleasure of exceptional bread in one of Barcelona’s most beautiful neighborhoods.
