10 Best Shopping Areas in Arrecife, Lanzarote

Shopping in Arrecife offers a refreshing contrast to the bustling, tourist-driven resorts found elsewhere on Lanzarote. As the island’s capital, this coastal city blends everyday local life with a distinctly Canarian retail experience. You will find everything from modern high-street fashion to traditional markets selling produce that has been part of the island’s culture for generations.

Unlike purpose-built commercial centers, the retail landscape here is woven into the fabric of the historic neighborhoods. A shopping trip often involves strolling past whitewashed buildings, stopping for a cortado, and browsing stores that have been family-owned for decades. It is a slower, more authentic way to experience the island.

The main artery for retail is the bustling Calle Real, also known as Calle León y Castillo. This pedestrianized street serves as the commercial heart of the city, offering a dense concentration of fashion, footwear, and accessory stores. However, to limit yourself to this one street is to miss the hidden gems located in the surrounding plazas and the marina district.

For visitors seeking souvenirs, the challenge is often finding quality items that are not mass-produced. Arrecife addresses this by offering a mix of artisan shops and local food markets where you can purchase authentic Canarian goods. From volcanic stone jewelry to locally produced wine and sea salt, the city provides plenty of options for meaningful gifts.

The layout of Arrecife is highly walkable, making it an ideal destination for a day of retail therapy without the need for a car. Most of the key shopping areas are connected by scenic promenades that overlook the Atlantic Ocean or the natural lagoon known as Charco de San Ginés. This proximity to the water adds a unique atmosphere that indoor malls simply cannot replicate.

Whether you are hunting for the latest European fashion trends, unique handicrafts, or simply want to stock up on local delicacies, Arrecife covers all bases. The city manages to balance modern commerce with traditional trade, ensuring that every type of shopper finds something to suit their taste and budget.

Below is a curated guide to the ten best areas to explore. These locations offer the highest concentration of quality stores, the best atmosphere, and the most reliable shopping experiences in the capital.

Very large open mall in arrecife about 8 times bigger than the biosphere in Puerto del Carmen. It has a vast array of shops and restaurants, spoilt for choice including a primark. Set over approximately 3 floors including free car parking for around 1000 cars and bus 🚌 stop outside. Inside is very welcoming with its water features and planting design. Well worth a visit for the day even if its just window shopping.

Most good indeed for the most part. Good shops but don't expect fast service in Hiperdino. 20 check outs, no self scan, huge queues, lazy staff. We had to put everything back as we were going to miss our flight.

Ok mall. No designer stores but it gets the job done. Tasty Tea is the best thing about this mall, them Korean chicken fried wings are to die for. + the brown sugar milk tea.

Nice shopping centre. Plenty of clothes and food shops. Don't understand why some people travel 2000 miles to go to McDonald's though. 🤦‍♂️

Quite a nice open mall with a good variety of shops. Some international brands and some Spanish brands too. Theres a small selection of food and cafes with a fresh juice bar too. Toilets were very clean and nice places to relax and sit too. Would recommend a quick visit

Arrecife Visit★☆☆☆☆
The perfect place to perform illegal acts. Most of this center has closed, unfortunately, including the viewing terrace. There are still sporadic advertisements and a bistro, as well as a gym. I would not go there at night. It was probably abandoned when the new shopping center Open Mall opened just 1km away. To the detriment of the whole - actually very nice environment here.
Mark Pearce★★★☆☆
Small, modern shopping centre with parking. I visited on a week day morning. Unfortunately there aren't many shops still in business here. I saw a baby shop, herbalario, and physiotherapists. There's also the general office for the centre too. The busiest place was the café. This seems very popular and the main reason most people go to the CC. The CC is fully accessible, is well cared for and toilets are available for all. It's a shame that so few outlets are taken. Probably too small to be attractive and too far from the centre as well. Hopefully it gets new life in the near future.

Great visit, and handy to get to if you have a car etc from playa blanca etc. We'll worth a visit.

Tiny shopping mall, disappointing range of shops and very little of interest. Car park is very cramped. On the positive side, it was free parking for 3 hours. And there was a KFC and Burger King. Glad we got in at 10am as the car park is very tricky and narrow. When we left it was full and hard to manoeuvre. We had hoped to kill a few hours here before our flight, sadly it just didn't have enough decent shops.
Monica Ioannou★★★☆☆
A small indoor shopping center, with a variety of shops (clothes, shoes, toy shop, supermarket, photo shops). You'll probably find what you're looking for. There's a few food shops as well including a burger king and kfc, as well as bowling and a cinema. Nice little indoors mall to spend a few hours here.
Cheryl Skipworth★★★★☆
Its a good sized shopping centre with a variety of stores but could do with clear map signposts of the floor layout. We was looking for a specific store but it took a while to find as we had no idea which floor it was on, which side of the centre ect.
Carlos J.B de Bourbon de Parme★★★★☆
Neat shopping center on the edge of Playa Honda. Many shops in 3 departments, reasonably spacious parking facilities.
Mark Pearce★★★★★
Very pleasant, airy, spacious shopping centre and easy to get around. There's a very good variety of quality stores here, which also range from affordable through to high priced. The three floors are linked by a choice of stairs, elevators, escalators and moving walk ways. This makes it superbly accessible for everyone. Probably the best I've seen. We went on a Sunday morning and it was busy. We were going to have coffee and a snack, but after waiting for a while gave up on that. Car parking outside at street level was over popular and cars were queuing, waiting for a space. Underground parking is also available and quicker to park in. I'm not sure if that involves any cost though. We had a scooter and parked easily for free. The HiperDino supermarket occupies about half the ground floor. I like HiperDino, but it seemed like the wrong place for it. Not quite fitting in with the other shops. Otherwise we really liked it here, and it compares very favourably with a lot of American malls we've been to. Very worthwhile visiting.

Good selection of shops and a couple of nice cafes.

A nice if small shopping centre that despite recent made up events is still looking clean and prosperous.... Optimus occupies the basement and is a decent hardware ish store. The rest of the shops look good but unfortunately Worten was looking a bit sparse (possibly due to clearing out old stock for the new season) but some good deals were to be had despite that. A good place for a quick browse and a good coffee if nothing else 😁
Stephen Allen★★★★☆
There's not loads there, cafe, toy shop, diy, electrical, bags and home stuff shops. The shops them selves are all pretty good. There's plenty of parking, but getting out can be a slight challenge uf the roads around are busy. It's never that busy. I use it a bit, although there usually better shop for most things. Don't have any need for the toy shop now, and bags ain't my thing.

We were on a long NCL cruise and Lanzarote was one of the stops. There was a shuttle buses took us to take us part way to city center and we walked the rest of the way. This is a very large port and lots of activity, commercial and cruise ships. The customs building for the cruise ship was modern and pleasant. Very picturesque.
Justine Edwards★★★★★
An absolutely fantastic Marina! This Marina is spotless, no litter or garbage anywhere. The restaurants and shops are all within quick walking distance, some just a few steps away if you are on a boat! We have stayed here for a week and have found it peaceful, staff friendly and helpful as well as the boating facilities. Laundry area a bit small. Great parking and accessibility to the main centre of town. Would definitely recommend a visit, a stay and to support the wonderful shops and restaurants.

It’s a very nice place to walk from the cruise ship to the town center. There are several shops and a supermarket.

This place is awesome, you can enjoy their beautiful places, like ancient museum, and the park..while having your free time you can have a walk through seaside while watching the beauty of their very clear ocean.

Last night i got a new lash glue from primark, i used it assap getting home and the next day my eyes are puffy and red. I personally dont recomend buying makeup from primark its nasty and they dont even test it to see if its good or not but clothes or anything else is alright. Good evening and i hope yall see this and avoid makeup from there
Monica Ioannou★★★★☆
Always on the hunt for primark when being abroad. It's a different vibe. The store is big enough and they kept everything tidy. Gutted the disney section wasn't big enough and there were barely any stuff. But was happy with what i found

Huge store, wide variety of options. Wish the home section was bigger. More people needed on the tills as more often than not, there are long queues.

Staff is the worst in this store. Not very helpful and rude. Don’t even bother to ask for your size because it will take forever to get it or it won’t even be brought to the store and they don’t care to take a look what’s going on when you asked for the second or third time. Lost almost an hour of my time for an item which was supposed to be in stock but in the end wasn’t. And they were too busy having a long chat between then than actually look why it was taking forever. Was just told well it takes a bit of time . Well thank you very much for nothing , being rude and wasting my time. When it’s not in store in your size they don’t even bother to have a look to see if it’s available online or in another store. The fitting rooms are always full of dust on the floor and the curtains are broken since forever so kinda have to see how you close it properly so you won’t feel watched. You get the feeling that they don’t wanna be there and don’t want to be bothered if you need help either. Never ever have I seen such unprofessional and useless staff in a Zara.

This was Lanzarote first central comercial, right now there are only few shops opened, a nail salon, a hair salon 2 bars, one at the entrance and one in the back, a tailor for fixing clothing and a sews fixing store, that's about it!! Oh you have Sakura v on the topside which is Asian buffet
Nahuel Muñoz★★☆☆☆
Meh, the old shopping center has gone downhill. It gets two stars for the recent gym, which was a welcome addition, but otherwise... there aren't any interesting shops left. They were overtaken years ago; now there are only a few haberdasheries, remnants of shops, and secondhand stores.
sergio hernández de león★★★☆☆
Shopping center in clear decline. It needs a major renovation, not only of the facilities but also of its operations. It needs a new direction. A few shops and restaurants still remain. It has a good location.
David Lechtenbörger (ReKoJeJoKeR)★☆☆☆☆
The bathrooms are locked. I went to ask for the key and they told me it was only for customers. Even though I was sitting at a table in the bar, I bit my tongue and explained the situation. It turns out only one of the establishments has the key, while my two kids and my grandfather were peeing. I finally get the key and struggle with the door because the lock is reversed—opening it means closing it, and closing it means opening it. Okay. I let my family in and wait like a doorman. They finish, and I lock up. Damn, I've locked a woman in because there's another key and they take longer. I open the door for her and apologize. Now all I have to do is return the key and go back to the table, because the bar is at one end of the center and the bathrooms are at the other. Makes perfect sense. Do you really expect me to come back?
Eugenia Toledo★★★☆☆
There are few businesses operating, there's a great coffee shop, a place that sells mobile phone accessories, a radio station, a boutique, a place that sells second-hand curiosities; it's a quiet place and well run by its managers.

Tips for Shopping in Arrecife

To make the most of your retail experience in Lanzarote’s capital, it helps to understand the local customs and logistics. Shopping here is generally relaxed, but knowing when to go and how to handle your purchases can save you both time and money. The following tips will help you navigate the commercial streets like a local rather than a tourist.

Respect the Siesta and Sunday Closures
Most independent shops in Arrecife close for a few hours in the afternoon, typically from 1:30 PM to 5:00 PM. Additionally, nearly all retail stores are closed on Sundays. Plan your shopping spree for weekdays between 10:00 AM and 1:30 PM, or in the early evening after the heat subsides.

Carry a Mix of Payment Methods
While major chains and department stores accept all major credit cards and contactless payments, smaller artisan stalls or market vendors may prefer cash. Keep a small amount of euros on hand for purchases at the local markets or for small items in family-run boutiques.

Look for Tax-Free Shopping
If you are a non-EU resident, you can claim back the Spanish VAT (IVA) on purchases over a certain threshold. Look for the "Tax Free" sticker in store windows. Ask the cashier for a Digital Tax Free form before you leave the store, as this can be processed at the airport before your departure.

Support Local Artisans over Mass-Produced Souvenirs
Instead of buying plastic magnets or generic t-shirts, look for items made on the island. Aloe vera products, Timanfaya volcanic stones, local wines from La Geria, and hand-rolled cigars make for far more authentic and higher-quality gifts. These are usually found in specialty shops rather than the main tourist strips.

Wear Comfortable Footwear
The best shopping areas in Arrecife are connected by pedestrian streets and seaside promenades. You will be walking on cobblestones and pavement for several hours. Leave the flip-flops at your hotel and opt for supportive sandals or sneakers to keep your feet comfortable throughout the day.

Bring a Reusable Bag
Spain has moved toward reducing plastic waste, and many stores now charge for plastic bags. Carrying a lightweight foldable tote bag in your daypack is both eco-friendly and practical for carrying your purchases as you walk from shop to shop.

The retail landscape of Arrecife is best enjoyed at a leisurely pace. Rather than rushing from one store to the next, take the time to wander down the side streets branching off the main avenues. Often, the best discoveries are found in the quiet plazas where local artisans sell their wares away from the crowds.

A day spent shopping here is also a culinary journey. Intersperse your browsing with stops at local tapas bars or bakeries to keep your energy up. By combining retail therapy with the city’s gastronomic offerings and scenic waterfront views, you will experience the true rhythm of life in Lanzarote’s vibrant capital.
