10 Best Shopping Streets in Tossa de Mar

Tossa de Mar pairs its medieval old town and castle-walled coastline with a surprisingly walkable shopping scene. Unlike sprawling retail hubs, this Costa Brava town concentrates its best browsing along a handful of atmospheric streets where locals and visitors mix. From handmade leather goods to Catalan delicacies, the shopping experience here feels more personal than transactional.

Most first-time visitors make the mistake of only passing through the souvenir stalls near the beach. While convenient, those kiosks rarely reflect the craftsmanship and flavor found just a few steps inland. The real finds sit along narrow pedestrian lanes, under stone archways, and inside family-run workshops that have traded here for generations.

The town’s layout naturally lends itself to a relaxed shopping walk. You can move from the fishing quarter to the Vila Vella, then back toward the modern commercial streets without ever needing a car. That compactness means you spend less time commuting and more time comparing ceramics, tasting olive oil, or trying on espadrilles.

Timing matters when planning your route. Many independent shops close for a long midday break, especially outside peak summer months. Plan to browse in the late morning, pause for lunch, then return after the siesta when storefronts reopen and the golden-hour light makes the stone facades glow.

The best shopping streets in Tossa de Mar also serve as cultural corridors. A single lane might lead you past a 14th-century church, a family bakery, and a boutique selling linen clothing. That blend of history and everyday commerce gives each purchase a sense of place that a mall or online order simply cannot replicate.

Whether you are hunting for a unique gift, upgrading your summer wardrobe, or simply enjoying window displays with a gelato in hand, Tossa de Mar rewards slow exploration. Bring a reusable bag, wear comfortable shoes, and prepare for cobblestones that have polished smooth over centuries.

Below you will find the ten streets that consistently deliver the best mix of quality, variety, and local character. Use this guide as a walking itinerary rather than a strict checklist.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Castell de Tossa is much more than a historic landmark—it's the soul of Tossa de Mar. I visited early in the morning and found locals jogging along the ancient walls, couples enjoying peaceful walks, and travelers quietly sitting by the sea, taking in the breathtaking Mediterranean view. There was no rush, no noise—just the gentle sound of the waves and the refreshing sea breeze. Sometimes, the greatest luxury while traveling isn't a five-star hotel. It's simply finding a quiet place to slow down, breathe deeply, and appreciate the beauty around you. The medieval walls, stone pathways, and endless blue sea create an atmosphere that feels both timeless and peaceful. Every corner offers a different perspective, making it a place worth exploring at your own pace. If you're visiting Costa Brava, don't just come here for a quick photo. Stay a little longer, wander through the old fortress, and let this beautiful place remind you that the simplest moments often become the most unforgettable memories. Highly recommended. A beautiful and peaceful place to visit. Walking along the historic Muralles de Tossa de Mar offers stunning views of the beach, the Mediterranean Sea, and the charming old town. It was lovely to see families and couples enjoying the area, which added to the welcoming atmosphere. The views from the walls are absolutely worth it, with plenty of great photo opportunities and spots to simply take in the scenery. A perfect place to explore, relax, and appreciate the history and beauty of Tossa de Mar. Highly recommended!

This is beautiful place to walk to in the evenings or afternoons. Find your way into the outpost from within the city. You will have to get lost and discover your way through. But along the way, you will come across the toasty quaintness that is Tossa. Let some of my photographs explain what I mean.

The walls of Tossa de Mar are absolutely magical and one of the most beautiful historical places on the Costa Brava. Walking through the ancient stone paths feels like entering a medieval painting suspended between the sea and the sky. The atmosphere changes with every corner — narrow stairways, old towers, hidden viewpoints, and breathtaking panoramas over the Mediterranean. What makes this place unforgettable is the combination of history and nature. The medieval walls overlooking the turquoise sea create views that are almost unreal, especially during sunset when the stones turn golden and the water reflects the light below. From the top, you can see the beaches, cliffs, boats, and the white buildings of Tossa spreading along the coast. The area is beautifully preserved and full of character. Small cafés, art shops, flowers growing between stone walls, and quiet corners make it feel alive rather than just historical. You can truly imagine centuries of sailors, fishermen, travelers, and defenders walking through the same paths. I especially loved simply slowing down there — not rushing, but taking time to absorb the textures, sounds of the sea, warm air, and the feeling of history surrounding everything. It is romantic, peaceful, and deeply atmospheric. Without question one of the most memorable places in Catalonia and a must-visit if you are anywhere near Tossa de Mar.

What an incredible historic gem! The Muralles de Tossa de Mar (the walls of the Vila Vella) are absolutely breathtaking. This is the only remaining fortified medieval town on the entire Catalan coast, and it’s easy to see why it’s a National Monument. Climbing (or even just wandering) along these ancient stone walls and towers offers some of the most spectacular panoramic views over Platja Gran, the sparkling Mediterranean, and the rugged coastline. The mix of history, charming narrow cobblestone streets inside the walls, and stunning scenery is perfect. It’s magical at sunset! Free to explore, well-preserved, and full of atmosphere with little shops, restaurants, and viewpoints. A must-visit if you’re in Tossa de Mar — it truly transports you back in time while delivering postcard-perfect photos at every turn. Wear comfortable shoes for the uneven paths and bring your camera.

Basically everything you would expect to find in a supermarket. Some decent discounts. A small playhouse for kids. Lots of parking. Really strong AC. Great for summer

We were from The Netherlands having holiday here a week. We went here to do grocery. The supermarket staff were so unfriendly. They even didn’t look at us or pay attention of our questions when we spoke English.

Nice, big and convenient. Be aware that parking is not free, and there are no signs or indications for it. You will need to validate your ticket at the cashier (the more you spend the less you pay, basically 0€ if you came shopping).

Lots empty shelves. Meat section is pretty good though. Tiny tiny soft play Area. Literally only room for 2 kids

Excellent mid size supermarket to get by in Tossa. It has everything you need, a patient and friendly staff, good prices, and, very importantly, a full on A/C to forget about the scorching summer outside. We didn't use the car park, but seems to be the right size. The place has a petrol station besides, so extra convenience. It also has a little "playground" for toddlers. Totally recommended!

The Murallas de la Vila Vella are without a doubt the most emblematic landmark in the area. It is an excellent place for iconic, artistic photos, especially during the golden hour when the light hits the medieval stone against the Mediterranean Sea. The historic path is beautifully preserved, and every corner offers a unique perspective. A must-visit if you are looking for the best photography locations on the Costa Brava.

Walking along the old walls of Vila Vella was one of the nicest parts of visiting Tossa de Mar. The stone walls, towers, narrow paths, and sea views make the whole area feel very special, almost like stepping into a small medieval village by the water. It’s a beautiful place to walk slowly, take photos, and enjoy the views of the beach and coastline. The walk is a great mix of history and scenery in one place. Every corner had a different view, from the old town streets to the blue Mediterranean Sea.

Beautiful walk up to the bar/restaurant at the top which had great beer and food (including kids food) toilets up there too and exceptional views of Tossa de mar
Victor Manuel Mendez★★★★★
What an amazing place. Charming little town with old medial castle. There are many shops/restaurants/bars on the way to road to the Castle. Once inside the old castle walls, it almost feels like you have travel back in time. There are also a few shops and restaurants within the walls. The views from walls and from a church at the top of the hill are amazing.

Editing my review: Writing in capital letter makes you sound even more rude. You are just lying! I went to the store twice and you had the same attitude. The second time, my daughter was choosing a hair clip with me while my husband was waiting outside and it is him who noticed you were zooming on us with your camera. The two other reviews prove that this is true and you are just not good at selling! You make a living out of selling your products so you should be more welcoming. I insist, don’t go there: rude people and expensive and bad quality products. They are plenty of nice stores were you feel welcomed in Tossa!! Very disrespectful sellers! They follow you in the shop as if you are going to steal. In addition, the products are bad quality and expensive.

I bought a pair of Rip Curl shorts, among other things. I spent over €300. I wore them for one day and they ripped. I took them back and they told me I'd sat in the wrong place and snagged them... there were 30 snags. They said they'd send them to Rip Curl. After 15 days, they told me they wouldn't replace them and would give me 10% off my next purchase. Not to mention that some of the clothes were three years old... if you don't have good after-sales service, don't sell expensive brands; you might as well sell knock-offs, "I Love Tossa" t-shirts, and keychains. I lost €80. I left the shorts there. I'll never go back.

Tips for Shopping in Tossa de Mar

Before you set off with your wallet, a few local insights will save you time and help you find better value. Shopping in Tossa de Mar follows rhythms and customs that differ slightly from larger Spanish cities, and understanding them makes the experience far smoother.

Carry some cash, especially for small purchases under ten euros. While most established boutiques accept cards, a few artisan stalls and family-run food shops still prefer efectivo. Keep a mix of small bills and coins so you can pay quickly without holding up the queue at a busy bakery.

Shop during the late morning or early evening. Many independent stores close between roughly 1:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m., particularly outside July and August. Arriving right when shops reopen in the early evening often means cooler temperatures, fewer crowds, and more attentive service from owners.

Ask about product origins before buying “local” goods. Some ceramics, textiles, and olive oils are imported from other regions or countries. A reputable shopkeeper will happily tell you which items are made in Catalonia and which are not, helping you make an informed choice.

Don’t be afraid to walk one street further inland. Prices drop noticeably once you leave the immediate seafront and main tourist arteries. The same bottle of wine, pair of sandals, or souvenir magnet often costs ten to twenty percent less just a three-minute walk away.

Learn a few polite Catalan or Spanish phrases. A simple “bon dia” in the morning or “gràcies” when leaving goes a long way. Shopkeepers in Tossa de Mar respond warmly to visitors who make a small effort, and that goodwill sometimes translates into extra samples or a small discount.

If you find something you love, buy it then rather than planning to return later. Many shops stock limited quantities of handmade items, and the one-of-a-kind ceramic bowl or leather bag you admire in the morning may be gone by evening. Tossa de Mar’s inventory moves quickly in high season.

A slow stroll through these streets reveals why Tossa de Mar remains one of the Costa Brava’s most authentic shopping destinations. The absence of large chain stores works in your favor, keeping the focus on independent artisans, regional food producers, and shopkeepers who know their products personally.

Take your time, step into courtyards that catch your eye, and let the town’s medieval layout guide you. The best souvenir from Tossa de Mar is rarely the most expensive one. More often, it is the item you found in a tucked-away workshop, wrapped in paper by the person who made it.
