12 Pharmacies in Oviedo City Centre

Finding a reliable pharmacy in a busy city centre can feel stressful, especially when you are dealing with a sudden headache, a sick child, or an empty prescription box. Oviedo’s historic core is highly walkable, but knowing exactly where to go saves you valuable time and energy. Whether you are a resident running daily errands or a visitor caught off guard by allergies, having a mental map of the local farmacias is essential.

The Spanish pharmacy system is highly regulated, ensuring that you receive professional advice and authentic medication every time. In Oviedo, pharmacists are trained to offer guidance on minor ailments, interpret prescriptions, and direct you to urgent care if necessary. Unlike in some countries, many medications that require a prescription elsewhere might be available over the counter here, but a pharmacist’s assessment is always your first step.

Location matters immensely in a city centre defined by pedestrian streets and historic plazas. While you might be tempted to simply search for the nearest green cross, not all pharmacies have the same opening hours or stock levels. Some specialize in dermatology, others in homeopathy or orthopedics, and a few operate as the designated late-night duty pharmacy for the entire municipality.

For tourists, language barriers can add an extra layer of anxiety to a health concern. Fortunately, the central pharmacies in Oviedo are accustomed to serving international visitors and pilgrims walking the Camino de Santiago. Many pharmacists speak English or French, and they can often provide the generic Spanish equivalent for common European medications, helping you avoid a trip to the hospital for minor issues.

Residents, on the other hand, often look for a pharmacy that offers more than just medication. Services like blood pressure monitoring, weight checks, and personalized medication reviews (Sistema Personalizado de Dosificación) are valuable for older adults or those managing chronic conditions. Building a relationship with a specific pharmacist in your neighborhood ensures continuity of care and personalized attention.

Accessibility is another crucial factor. While Oviedo’s old town is charming, its narrow cobblestone streets can be tricky for wheelchairs, strollers, or the elderly. Many of the centrally located pharmacies have adapted their entrances to be step-free, but it is worth knowing which ones offer the easiest access and the most spacious interiors for a comfortable consultation.

Below is a curated list of pharmacies located in and around the heart of Oviedo. This selection focuses on those with a reputation for excellent customer service, central accessibility, and consistent stock of common necessities.

People in Asturias are notably courteous, nowhere more so than in shops. That made the treatment I received from one of the young female pharmacists—whose name tag read “Sara”—all the more appalling. She neither greeted me nor deigned to utter a word; instead, she regarded me as though I were an idiot for failing to divine that she was, in fact, both able and willing to assist me with my purchase.

Great service, busy pharmacy but everyone here is super helpful and kind. A great variety of products are in stock, beauty products, feminine and baby products, skincare, prescription and non-prescription meds. Will definitely return.

Both times I've been there, the people serving me have been incredibly friendly; it's a pleasure to go to places where you're served by such wonderful people.
Eugenia Fernández Salas★★★★★
I'm absolutely delighted with the service I received. It's the only pharmacy in Oviedo where they actually went out of their way (the guy, I don't know his name) to find a product that was supposedly out of stock. Two months later, they surprised me by calling to say they'd managed to get it! He was incredibly kind and helpful, absolutely fantastic!
F★☆☆☆☆
I went twice because it's close by, and both times he sold me a bunch of things I didn't need that cost a fortune—more than I'd ever spent at a pharmacy before. Plus, I felt pressured to buy things because I was in a hurry and feeling pretty unwell, while the guy was just rambling on and on. He seems more like a salesman than a pharmacist; I don't know, he just doesn't inspire confidence. I won't be going back.

I'm very satisfied with the diet service at Vetusta Pharmacy. The nutritionist pharmacist created an easy-to-follow daily and weekly diet plan for me, along with natural supplements that they provided at the pharmacy. I reached my goals easily, and The price was also quite reasonable.

Today I went to this pharmacy looking for a prescription medication. The incredibly unfriendly employee told me they didn't have it and acted completely nonchalant. She didn't offer any alternatives, no compatible medication, or even order it from Cofas and give me a delivery date... unheard of for a professional pharmacist. They simply don't have the medication, end of story. She couldn't care less about us patients.

I didn't want to write this review, because everyone pays for each other, but there's an employee at this pharmacy who really needs to do some self-reflection and take a hard look at the arrogance with which she treats customers. It's awful. She looks at my prescription and shouts that I have a urinary tract infection (do they have to know what I have, even if it's just a minor issue?). Ninety percent of customers go to the pharmacy not for pleasure, but out of necessity, and a little empathy and human warmth would go a long way. And then there's the issue of generic medications, which is getting tiresome at this pharmacy. If the doctor prescribes a medication with a specific brand name, that's the one they give you; they don't give you the generic. Even when I didn't ask for it, they didn't offer it, and it wasn't because of a shortage. When I tell her I want the generic, she rudely asks if they'll give it to me, and I tell her no. Then she tells me I need to take probiotics because of the yeast infection (she didn't offer them to me when I was taking generic medication, of course). I tell her I have it, she looks at me incredulously and insists again, and I repeat that I have it. I give her the money, she goes to get the change, and then she just stands there talking to her colleague with the change in her hand, while I wait. Anyway, other people here have helped me, and it's been a positive experience, but the whole generic drug thing is getting really tiresome, because it's not an isolated case.
Rafael Lopez Manzanara★☆☆☆☆
This is the first time a pharmacy has asked for my health insurance card. My ID has always been enough. I'm giving it one star as a warning to anyone who comes here not to forget their card, and so that the staff here can update their software or ask other pharmacies how they handle it.

Terrible service. You can't return a product that's completely untouched, even the day after you bought it. They didn't even provide a bag or wrapping paper. They said they'd call you back, but they never did. They told you that once something leaves the pharmacy, it doesn't come back in. Well, let's see if they follow the pharmacy's policy and keep everything out and never bring it back in. I'm absolutely outraged.

I bought a can of formula on Saturday afternoon after leaving the hospital and mistakenly purchased the wrong brand. I returned first thing the next morning with the unopened product to ask if it was possible to exchange or return it, but they told me that the pharmacy's policy is that once products are sold, they don't restock. Ultimately, an exchange wasn't possible. I recommend asking before buying if they accept returns on these types of products. I had to re-post the review because they deleted it even after I appealed.

Rules don't make good people, actions do. A lack of empathy and humanity. Yesterday at 4:30 in the morning, my wife, my 11-month-old daughter, and I went to this pharmacy. My wife was suffering from gastroenteritis; she had been vomiting for over six hours. I went to buy Primperan for the vomiting, a €2.90 medication. I told them I had the prescription first thing tomorrow morning, that my wife works in healthcare, and that I had no one to leave the baby with while I went to the emergency room. The response was a perfect example of a segment of this declining society: "No, without a prescription I won't give you anything, I can't, those are the rules, go to the emergency room and get a prescription." It didn't matter what I explained; for them, those were the rules… Thank God there are professionals with empathy and humanity, and it wasn't necessary to go to the emergency room with a viral infection and an 11-month-old baby, spending more than 5 hours there just to get a prescription and an IV drip.

A couple of months ago, I went to this pharmacy for a consultation with Graciela. She explained my skin type and the routine I was using. She offered more affordable alternatives and gave me several samples of the products so I could decide which ones I liked best. She spent almost an hour with me, answering all my questions, and gave me all the feedback in writing. The consultation, besides being free, didn't pressure me into buying any specific product. She also sent me a follow-up message via WhatsApp and is keeping in touch, making sure everything is going well. Plus, the pharmacy has a points system, so shopping there is still cheaper, which is a bonus. It's definitely worth it.

The pharmacists offer excellent service from the very first moment, both in person and over the phone. They are very friendly, approachable, and always willing to help with any questions. It's clear they are highly professional and genuinely care about their customers. They also usually have everything you need in stock, and if they don't, they'll get it for you quickly. Without a doubt, a trustworthy pharmacy that's a pleasure to visit. Highly recommended.
Pedro de Mendoza★★★★★
Excellent experience, highly recommended for being a very complete pharmacy with exquisite and personalized service. Pharmacy with services such as weight and measurement, and pharmacy and over-the-counter products. It does not have 24-hour service. The best: - Undoubtedly, the service from the staff. They answer the phone and reserve any product you request if they have it in stock. Once there, they give excellent advice and even take the trouble to check SESPA protocols to confirm or expand on the information—in my case, it was for antigen tests. And all this with exceptional politeness and kindness. - The pharmacy itself: original layout with a curved aisle, good lighting, cleanliness, and organization. - Variety of products (pharmacy and over-the-counter) due to the good size of the establishment. - Other services such as a weighing and measuring machine. The worst: - It is not open 24 hours a day or on weekends after noon on Saturday. - Parking is a bit difficult if you arrive by car.
Mari Sol★★★★★
I'm absolutely delighted with this pharmacy; in fact, it's my favorite for buying over-the-counter products, and it's also my go-to pharmacy. The pharmacists and assistants are all excellent professionals and incredibly friendly. I usually deal with Graciela, who is delightful and a fantastic skin specialist. Since I started following her recommendations, my skin has improved dramatically. (I'm over 40, and I can attest that the products and the care I received before meeting her make a noticeable difference.) They offer advice in person or via WhatsApp, pamper their customers with discounts, samples, and impeccable service. I shop both in-store and online, where they ship very quickly. They also frequently have great promotions and post tips on Instagram and WhatsApp... an unbeatable pharmacy and service. They deserve a 10 out of 10.
María Verdeja★★★★★
I really like this pharmacy. They offer personalized and specialized service. The dermatology section is truly excellent. Last week I participated in a workshop, led by Graciela, on skin cleansing and treatment, which I found fantastic. Highly recommended, very good, and most importantly, it delivers real results.

Exorbitant prices. I went in to buy a pharmacy product (Systane Complete eye drops) and the price was outrageous: 21 euros, when I've bought it at other pharmacies for 12, and even for 10 on sale. The profit margin is close to 100% on products for chronic use, which people have no choice but to buy.
Javi Sanchez★☆☆☆☆
Pharmacy closed, light on. By law, the green crosses that identify pharmacies must remain unlit when the establishment is closed to the public. This regulation aims to prevent confusion among users and ensure that the signage indicates an active service.
Luis Daniel Álvarez Calderón★☆☆☆☆
Early Sunday morning, April 6th, I went to the pharmacy to pick up several prescription medications. The woman who served me didn't seem very experienced or was half asleep, as she charged me €22.15 without a receipt or anything, which I thought was high. I got in my car and went to another pharmacy on duty in Oviedo to get another medication, since the first one didn't have one of the prescriptions in stock. I went back to get the same medications and looked inside the bag to check if I had been charged correctly, as the total didn't add up until I noticed that one of the medications hadn't had its barcode cut off, so the discounted price hadn't been applied. I couldn't verify this because I hadn't received a receipt either. I went back again to ask about the price of the dispensed medications and to request the discount on the one I had just bought. The woman, very slow and confused, cut off the barcode after a while at the back counter. He came back to process the payment, but without a receipt, which I complained about again because this situation made me suspicious. I don't know the price of Prodefen Plus, but it seemed exorbitant compared to online listings. Even so, the service and attention I received were terrible. I'm wondering if it was an accidental mistake or something else. I would like to report this incident. Thank you.
Ramón Llacer Ferrer★☆☆☆☆
The pharmacy itself is quite ordinary—clean, bright, and well-stocked—but the employee was utterly heartless. I went in to buy medication for a teenager's menstrual pain and politely asked for a glass of water so she could take the pill. She refused, suggesting I buy a small bottle for €1.10. That's what you call humanity. I certainly won't be returning.
Pedro Aranda★★★★★

Ever since I discovered this pharmacy, I always go there whenever I need to go to the pharmacy, even if it means traveling a bit. They always serve you incredibly fast. Their staff is very friendly, and if you have any questions, they're happy to help. They also pay attention to every detail. It's a pleasure to go to this pharmacy, both because of the atmosphere—it's so clean and well-maintained—and because of the staff. They offer routine blood sugar tests at a reasonable price. I am terribly disappointed with my recent visit to Migoya Pharmacy. The mistrust and unpleasant experience that I encountered was simply appalling. They have a serious problem with their money handling process, as I noticed they consistently short-changed customers. When it was my turn to pay, I handed over a higher amount with the expectation to receive my rightful change in return. However, exactly to my initial prediction, I was still cheated. Their excuse about the cashier making a "simple mathematical error" clearly didn’t hold, as it was not the only case.

Practical Tips for Using Pharmacies in Oviedo

Navigating the healthcare system in a foreign country or even just a busy city centre requires a bit of local knowledge. These tips will help you get exactly what you need quickly, safely, and without unnecessary hassle, ensuring your experience at an Oviedo pharmacy is smooth and efficient.

1. Understand the Green Cross and Duty Hours
Every pharmacy in Spain displays a green cross, often illuminated. If a pharmacy is closed, it will display a sign indicating the "Farmacia de Guardia" (duty pharmacy) for that day. You can find this list posted on the door of any closed pharmacy, or you can check the official College of Pharmacists of Asturias website for the daily rotation. This is crucial for late-night or Sunday emergencies.

2. Bring Your Physical Health Card or EHIC
If you are a resident, always carry your Tarjeta Sanitaria Individual (TSI) to ensure your electronic prescriptions are correctly processed. For EU tourists, carry your European Health Insurance Card (EHIC). While it doesn’t cover the full cost of medication like a Spanish prescription does, it identifies you within the system and can be useful if the pharmacist needs to verify your identity or direct you to a public health center.

3. Don’t Hesitate to Ask for the Generic (Genérico)
Spanish pharmacists are legally required to offer the cheapest generic version of a prescribed drug unless the doctor specifically writes "no sustituible" (do not substitute). If you are buying over-the-counter medicine, asking "¿Tiene la versión genérica?" can save you a significant amount of money. The active ingredients are identical and regulated by the Spanish Medicines Agency (AEMPS).

4. Be Specific About Symptoms, Not Just Brand Names
If you are looking for a specific brand from your home country (like Tylenol or Advil), it may not exist in Spain. Instead of asking for the brand, describe your symptoms or ask for the active ingredient: Paracetamol for pain/fever or Ibuprofeno for inflammation. Pharmacists are highly trained to map your symptoms to the correct local medication, preventing dangerous mix-ups.

5. Respect the "Behind the Counter" Policy
In Spain, you generally cannot grab medication off a shelf yourself. Even basic painkillers, antihistamines, and cold medicine are kept behind the counter. Approach the pharmacist or the counter staff, state what you need, and they will retrieve it for you. This allows them to screen for potential interactions with other drugs you might be taking, which is a major safety benefit.
