Tossa de Mar is one of the most visually striking towns on the Costa Brava, where medieval stone walls meet a curving bay of turquoise water. Unlike some of the more purely resort-driven destinations nearby, this town has managed to hold onto its historic soul while still welcoming travelers from across the globe. The narrow, winding lanes of the Vila Vella invite slow wandering, and the seafront promenade hums with a relaxed, unhurried energy that makes it easy to linger.
Finding the right cafe in Tossa de Mar is less about grabbing a quick caffeine fix and more about choosing the kind of atmosphere that suits your mood. Some mornings call for a strong espresso at a marble counter while locals chat in Catalan, while other afternoons are best spent on a shaded terrace overlooking the sand. The town’s cafe culture reflects its dual identity as both a working fishing village and a beloved Mediterranean escape.
Because Tossa de Mar is compact, the best cafes are rarely hidden far from the main flow of visitors. Still, the difference between a memorable stop and a forgettable one often comes down to small details: the quality of the beans, the texture of the foam, the freshness of a pastry, or simply the angle of the sun on a particular corner. These nuances matter when you want to experience the town the way residents do.
The local coffee scene has evolved considerably in recent years, with a new wave of specialty roasters and artisan bakers joining long-standing family-run establishments. This means you can start your day with a meticulously poured flat white and end it with a traditional crema catalana and a carajillo, all within a few minutes’ walk. The variety is impressive for a town of this size.
Many of the best spots also double as places to sample local products, from olive oil-drizzled tomato bread to small-batch pastries made with almonds from nearby orchards. A good cafe here is often a gateway to understanding the region’s food culture, not just a place to sit down. Paying attention to what locals are ordering is usually the quickest way to find the true highlights.
When selecting the cafes below, I considered not only the quality of the coffee but also the comfort of the seating, the friendliness of the service, and the overall sense of place. Each recommendation offers something a little different, whether it is a view of the castle, a quiet courtyard, or a perfectly baked croissant. These are places where you will want to stay for a second cup.
Whether you are visiting for a day trip from Barcelona or settling in for a week by the sea, this list will help you find the right spot for your morning ritual or afternoon pause. Here are the ten best cafes in Tossa de Mar to add to your itinerary.

Had a lovely lunch here, with great service and wonderful food. Tinto de verano, croquettes, and pan am tomat - the food was well prepared, tasty, the service was tops, and the location and atmosphere made for a memorable meal. Very easy to recommend Siena!

We stopped by Seina for a quick coffee.
We ordered a cappuccino and a double espresso, along with an empanada and a xuixo.
Everything tasted very good and we really enjoyed the snacks. The coffee itself wasn’t the best quality, but that seems to be fairly standard in Spain.
We were also pleasantly surprised by the restroom — it was very spacious, clean, and stylish.
Overall, a nice short stop and a pleasant experience.

We enjoyed ten beautiful days in Tossa de Mar & visited this restaurant twice. Food&service are outstanding. Ensure you request to dine in the outdoor courtyard rather than on the street. Thank you to the wonderful lady who oversaw the service & who was fluent in English, French& Spanish.

The food at this restaurant was delicious, comparable to Michelin-starred restaurants. The service was excellent. I'll definitely come again.

We’ve been here 3 times in 5 days, and that says everything. By far the best restaurant in Tossa! Every dish we tried was excellent — the lubina, bacalao, cheesecake, and crepes were all delicious — but my absolute favorite was the incredible variety of homemade ice cream, all clearly made with so much love. You can really taste the quality and care in everything they serve. Wonderful food, great atmosphere, and a place we kept wanting to come back to. Highly recommend if you’re in Tossa!

Really disappointing experience at Loop Café. The burger meat was raw inside, I couldn’t even finish it. The fries were tough and chewy, almost like plastic, not fresh at all. For the price, I expected basic food safety standards to be met. Wouldn’t recommend and won’t be coming back.

I have been to Loop on a number of occasions by myself and with my family. On each occasion the customer service has been excellent. The food is very tasty and very reasonably priced and the vibe is nice and chilled. I would recommend Loop to anyone who likes good food, excellent customer service with a smile and a nice chilled out vibe. I look forward to my next trip to Loop!
Michelle Ann Mancera★☆☆☆☆
I was disappointed with my experience at Loop Café. We brought a bottle of water and some chips without realizing that outside food and drinks were not allowed. If the staff had politely explained the policy to us, we would have completely understood and respected it.
Instead, the waitress called us rude, which felt unnecessary and unprofessional. At the end of the day, we were still paying customers, and we expected to be treated with respect and spoken to politely. Respect should go both ways. If staff expect customers to be respectful, they should also communicate with kindness and professionalism.
Unfortunately, the service left a much worse impression than the food, which was average. A simple, courteous explanation would have made the situation completely different. I hope the café takes this as feedback and improves how it treats its customers.

I had such a lovely experience at Loop Café in Tossa de Mar! I tried the salmon bagel with a fresh orange juice, and it was absolutely delicious, super fresh ingredients and beautifully presented. The café has a really cozy vibe, friendly staff, and a great atmosphere to relax. Definitely a great spots I found in Costa Brava. Highly recommend!

Great Sangria and service! Just arrived in Tossa will be back for dinner soon! Have since returned three times so far, and now tried the food and cava sangria, both great. Also got to watch the FIFA World Cup final there yesterday evening. Jefferson the lead waiter/manager of this bar is first class with customer’s and his staff alike. We will be visiting many times more during our stay in the area.

Ok, so…I’ve sampled a lot of different ice cream in my life (no judgment please!)…and I have to say that I think this may be THE BEST chocolate ice cream I’ve ever had, anywhere in the world! Sure, the setting and the service helped make it special, but the gelato was honestly delicious. I had a cone with one scoop of coffee and one chocolate, my husband had vanilla and chocolate - both were yummy, as were the iced latte’s (with oat milk). There are a few good ice cream shops in Tossa, but this one was a cut above.

A clean bar/café with good food. The service, however, left a lot to be desired. The woman who took our order seemed to think we were burdening her, and scowled when we asked for a sandwich without ham 🤨

The place looked inviting and the prices looked reasonable but what we got plated was not worth it what so ever. The breaded squid was from a grocery store and heated up, served. Which cost us €14. Food seemed processed (cooked from Frozen) , and I think there were 8 pieces of calamari.

Eduardo Miralles★☆☆☆☆
The place is open to both guests staying at the resort and people passing by, which sounds like a nice option. However, our experience as visitors was quite frustrating.
We were a large family, so naturally the order took a little longer. It took around 17 minutes for our order to be ready, but the resort staff came to remind us that the parking spots are limited to 15 minutes and insisted that we leave.
The problem is that, after being told to move the car, getting back to the area is not that simple. The roads around here are quite long and curvy, and making a quick loop is not really practical, especially with a large family and kids.
If the café is going to promote itself as being open to people passing by, there should be a more practical solution for parking. Otherwise, I think it would be better to stop promoting it to passersby, because the current setup can create a pretty frustrating experience.
Parking on the street also doesn’t feel like the safest option when you’re traveling with kids.
And after all that, I almost forgot to mention that the place itself is actually quite nice. Unfortunately, I wasn’t as impressed with the coffee. For a place presenting itself as a specialty coffee shop, I expected a higher level of coffee quality.

What a wonderful restaurant! We had an excellent dining experience and left truly impressed.
The food was delicious, with a varied menu offering something for everyone. The atmosphere was fantastic, and the beautiful view made our meal even more memorable. Despite visiting during the busy high season and arriving without a reservation, the staff kindly found a table for us and made us feel very welcome.
The service was fast, professional, and friendly throughout our visit. Everything exceeded our expectations.
Without a doubt, this is one of the best restaurants in Tossa de Mar and a place that everyone should visit. We highly recommend it and look forward to coming back!
Cara Emerson★★★★★
We had such a fantastic dining experience! The seafood was incredibly fresh and beautifully presented. The seafood platter was packed with lobster, prawns, mussels, and perfectly cooked shellfish, served with crispy fries and a fresh salad. Every bite tasted fresh and was cooked to perfection.
We also ordered the seafood tartare, which was absolutely outstanding. It was beautifully plated, full of fresh flavors, and the balance of textures and sauces made it one of the highlights of the meal.
What really made the evening special, though, was the staff. They were warm, attentive, and genuinely welcoming from the moment we arrived. To top it all off, they surprised us with complimentary shots at the end of our meal, which was such a thoughtful gesture and made the experience even more memorable.
Amazing food, excellent service, and a great atmosphere. We’ll definitely be back and highly recommend this place to anyone who loves fresh seafood! 🦞🍤🍽️🥂
M G★★★★★
Right by the beach and sea, this place has a lovely setting. I’d highly recommend sitting out on the terrace for the view. The restaurant was very busy when we visited. The seafood paella was good, though quite similar in style and flavour to others I’d had before, so I probably should’ve tried something different. The small fried fish were alright and be careful of the bones.
Ahmed Oz.★★★★☆
Great place with really good food. The only slight downside is the variety, if you’re looking to dive deep into authentic Spanish cuisine, the menu is a bit limited, but it’s honestly not a huge deal. Prices are a little on the higher side, though. The portions are decent (not tiny, but not huge either), but they don’t quite justify the price tag
Laura Du★★★★★
Every dish was spot-on—we loved it so much we came back two days in a row. The lobster soup was rich and flavorful, and the scampi and razor clams were incredibly fresh. The lava cake had a deep chocolate aroma with just the right sweetness. The staff were warm and attentive, and even provided a Chinese menu. Jacky was especially lovely—sadly we forgot to ask other staff names. Looking forward to coming back!
Tips for Enjoying Cafes in Tossa de Mar
A little local knowledge goes a long way when navigating the cafe scene in Tossa de Mar. The rhythm of the town changes with the seasons, and the best approach to ordering, timing, and seating can make your experience noticeably smoother. These practical tips will help you blend in and get the most out of every coffee break.
1. Order at the bar for lower prices
In many Spanish cafes, the price of a coffee is cheaper if you stand at the bar rather than sit at a table, especially on a terrace. If you are in a hurry or just want a quick espresso, order and drink it at the counter like a local. You will often save a euro or more per drink.
2. Time your visit to avoid the midday rush
The busiest time for cafes in Tossa de Mar is between 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., when day-trippers and late risers converge. For a more peaceful experience, arrive before 9:30 a.m. or after 4:00 p.m. The light is also better for photos during those quieter hours.
3. Look for “menú del día” coffee combos
Some cafes offer a combined breakfast or snack deal that includes coffee plus a pastry or sandwich at a reduced price. These combos are often written on a small chalkboard near the entrance. Asking for the “combinado” can save you money while giving you a taste of local baked goods.
4. Carry a little cash for smaller establishments
While most cafes in Tossa de Mar now accept cards, a few of the older family-run spots still prefer cash for small purchases under five euros. Keeping a ten-euro note in your pocket will save you from having to find an ATM before your morning cortado.
5. Ask for “café amb llet” to try the local language
Tossa de Mar is in Catalonia, and while everyone speaks Spanish, using the Catalan phrase for a milky coffee is a small gesture that is warmly received. It is pronounced roughly as “ca-FEH am-YET.” The same applies to “gràcies” instead of “gracias.”
The cafe scene in Tossa de Mar rewards those who slow down and pay attention to the details. A quiet morning by the old walls, a shaded table with a view of the bay, or a simple conversation with a barista can become some of the most memorable moments of your trip. Rather than rushing from sight to sight, allow yourself the pleasure of sitting still for a while.
As the fishing boats return in the late afternoon and the stone streets begin to glow in the golden light, there is no better way to absorb the atmosphere than from a well-chosen cafe. Whether you prefer a modern specialty brew or a traditional Spanish coffee with a sweet bite, this town offers a seat for every kind of traveler.
