12 Best Seafood Restaurants in Vigo

Steeped in maritime tradition and defined by its working fishing port, Vigo offers a seafood culture that feels less like a trend and more like a way of life. As one of Europe’s largest fishing hubs, the city receives daily landings of Atlantic treasures, meaning the distance from ocean to plate is often measured in hours rather than days. This deep connection to the sea shapes every aspect of the local dining scene, from humble taverns to refined marisquerías.

The Galician approach to seafood is famously restrained, relying on impeccable raw material rather than heavy sauces or complicated techniques. Whether it is percebes (goose barnacles) harvested from dangerous coastal rocks or sweet langoustines from the nearby rías, the goal is always to highlight natural flavor. In Vigo, you will quickly learn that simplicity is the ultimate sophistication, especially when the product is this fresh.

Navigating the city’s dining landscape can feel overwhelming for first-time visitors, as seafood is served everywhere from bustling market stalls to elegant dining rooms. The key is understanding the difference between a standard tourist trap and an establishment that respects the seasonal rhythms of the Atlantic. Locals tend to gravitate toward places that maintain long-standing relationships with specific fishmongers and shellfish gatherers.

Price and quality are not always directly linked in Vigo, which is good news for travelers on a budget. Some of the most memorable meals can be found standing at a marble bar, sipping a crisp Albariño while picking at freshly steamed mussels. Conversely, a splurge on a perfectly prepared rodaballo (turbot) or a centollo (spider crab) can be worth every euro for a special occasion.

The concept of "marisqueo" is central to understanding why Vigo’s seafood tastes so distinct. The cold, nutrient-rich waters of the Rías Baixas create a unique ecosystem that produces bivalves and crustaceans with unparalleled sweetness and texture. This geographical advantage cannot be replicated, making the local seafood a genuine expression of terroir—or rather, "mar" (sea).

Timing your visit can also enhance the experience, as many restaurants close during the late afternoon and reopen for dinner around 8:30 PM. Lunch is typically the largest meal of the day, and booking ahead is highly recommended for popular spots, especially on weekends. A little planning ensures you avoid disappointment when hunting for that perfect plate of arroz con bogavante (lobster rice).

Below is a curated selection of establishments that consistently deliver the authentic flavors of the Galician coast. These range from iconic institutions with decades of history to modern spaces that respect tradition while adding a contemporary touch.

Guillermo Rademakers★★★★★
Galician food is well know and always praised for restaurants like this. The sea food, fish, meat, wines and much more appear on a more than correct menu, with starters, main and desserts, although the fish and sea food are the key elements. Excellent wine list with diversity and quality seems just fine. Great location at fishers street with a nice terrace and indoors tables, great service and ambient that makes it magnificent. The price is mid / high but the quality of ingredients and dishes makes it worth it. So a must for anyone visiting Vigo, or anything close. It can be for a daily meal or a celebration, although the experience would simply be memorable, so just enjoy it!

This was by far my culinary gem of Vigo! Had it in mind for our arrival but didn't work out due to a delay in my schedule. We were determined to try it in the last day and were so passed out that we tried a couple spots we eyeballed but they were all packed and even turned away a couple hosts and promoters offering their places. We scored literally the last table with JUST enough trying before the kitchen would close. We were greeted veru kindly and served right away and offered some treats on the house. The Andalusian Calamares were the best we've had and the Pimientos de Padrón were delicious! Then the Arroz con Marisco!!!!! The Albariño was excellent and very reasonably priced. Their dessert menu looked amazing but we just had no space. This was meant to be and I'm very grateful that everything lined up in a way we visited this gem. Don't miss it!

The main reason we came was to try authentic, fresh seafood.. and it did NOT disappoint. For €72 you can fulfill all your seafood dreams. Everything was delicious from start to finish, unbelievable flavor, worth every cent. And the dessert is a must really! We were full and didn’t want more but they convinced us and I’m glad they did. Homemade dessert and you can truly taste the freshness. 10/10 experience.

My wife and I had an incredible experience at Casa Vella. The food was absolutely amazing—every dish was full of flavor and beautifully presented. The staff were extremely knowledgeable, attentive, and genuinely friendly, which made the whole experience even more special. The atmosphere is just as impressive—such a beautiful place with a warm, welcoming vibe. If you’re visiting Vigo, this is truly a must-visit restaurant. Highly recommend!

Fabulous Calimari- the best for a long long time. The croquettes were also awsome. Get here early as the queue was 25 strong by 1.30. We didn't have it but the Fish platter looked amazing. Wine also delicious.

One of the best paella we had in Spain. The Complete salad was good too. Went well with the wine.

5 Stars ⭐️ Would give more if I could. Been coming here for years with my partners family who themselves have been coming here for years. Food is outstanding and fantastic value. Service is top notch and they go out of their way to help. Highly recommended.
William Shim★★★★★
We’d seriously give more stars if we could. Walked in on Sunday at 1pm, the place was already fully reserved. We were super lucky to get a table. Ordered seafood platter for 1 (wanted to get for two but the staff told us not to do that. Not many restaurants are honest like that) and seafood rice, which we’ve waited for ten years to eat in Vigo. And the whole experience was mind blowing. We’ve traveled throughout the world for good food, and this place was easily top 5 of all time. Super friendly staff and an overwhelmingly positive experience. And you know right away the place is legit when there’s a fish tank in a restaurant. Need to go back!
Julia Wald★★★★★
Absolutely incredible meals! I came alone and got the peppers, scallops, and seafood rice. Came back with a friend and got the seafood platter and little cannoli like things for dessert. Fabulous, thank you!
Toby Conacher★★★★★
I had been here several times more than 20 years ago, it was very good then and was still excellent on my visit yesterday. They understand and cater for cealiacs. Our waitress was very friendly and nice to my five year old grandson.

Well it’s not a cheap restaurant compared to others around the area but the quality of the seafood is amazing. The lady staff was super kind and nice. She made our day. We had the fish carpaccio, navajas, pulpo and the turbot. They were all excellent.
Lazarela Hrvatin★★★★★
Incredible seafood restaurant! The lobster salad is an absolute must-try. If you enjoy dry wines, I highly recommend the Albariño Do Ferreiro—it paired perfectly with the meal. The restaurant is on the expensive side, but the quality of the food and overall experience made it well worth it.
javier rivero★★★★★
To be honest, this is a very expensive place. Expect to spend around €40–€60 per person depending on what you order. While the food quality and service are excellent, some guests feel the pricing is a bit steep for the overall setting, which hasn’t been modernized much over the years. “Top food, but pricey. The place could use some renovation.” The quality of the food is absolutely top-tier. From fresh oysters, scallops, and barnacles to Galician-style octopus and perfectly cooked fish and seafood rice dishes, everything is sourced locally and served with care. They focus on seasonal products, traditional recipes, and fresh seafood straight from the Ría de Vigo. Dishes like the rice with lobster, grilled razor clams, and classic empanadas are standouts. Overall is a very good restaurant.
Jim Tarwater★★★★★
If I could give a 6 star rating, this would be the place! Amazing seafood. From appetizers through to the coffee schnapps at end the night, just wonderful! Service was AMAZING! Helping us with our Spanish while peaking very good English, she made meal most enjoyable. Her description of every course guided us all to something on the menu. A party of 5, 3 had seafood, 1 had a steak, and 1 had a vegetarian dish. We tried 3 of the deserts w/ the “French toast” as everyone’s favorite. I had the grilled, wild turbot, and also pictured is the vegetables over rice and the Arroz de monkfish and prawns.
Victor Restrepo★★★★★
Excellent restaurant that has been in operation since the 1930s. The menu is not extensive but everything is delicious and very well prepared. Great wine list and impecable service. Highly recommended.

Best seafood we've had for a long while, six stars out of five. Reasonably priced, the octopus was beautifully done, the squid and the scallops were freshly made. Looking at the photos from other people, we regretted not ordering baby squids! You made us want to visit Vigo again. Just to add - 1. there is no service charge in case people got confused 2. we had great service from two gentlemen - thank you for being patient with us whilst we used the translator app! I'll make sure we learn some Spanish before we visit again!
Rachel Rigali★★★★★
The garlic shrimp was delicious, it has a slight kick to it but mild enough that it was enjoyable with the shrimp and bread. We also ordered the beef entrecot which came with yummy fried potatoes. The restaurant is quite small with few tables so you may need to wait during busy timings.
Rachael L★★★★★
Came for an early lunch before the place filled up. Friendly service and food was good. A great spot for some Galician specials, too bad I wasn’t able to try more dishes but I really enjoyed my piementos and garlic prawns and dry white wine.
Mai★★★★☆
I found all the dishes to be well-balanced and consistently delicious. The prawn ajillo was particularly outstanding.
PALOMA RUIZ★★★★★
Excellent traditional Tavern in Vigo old town. Food, mainly fish, really fresh and tasty. Inside and outside options. Staff very friendly and professional. Don’t miss this place if you’re around!

Excelent choice !! ✅ Very nice restaurant in the heart of the old city center in Vigo. The food was delicious and the waiting staff, Cristina and her colleagues are great , profesionals that make you feel right at home. Our way Camino Portuguese - costal route. Visited April 10 , 2026
Mister Morelight★★★★★
Superb evening at El Capitan in the center of the pedestrian area of Vigo. The restaurant has a peculiar layout: you enter through the kitchen and up on the second floor. Yes, the poor waiters go up and down for service. Speaking of service, it was impeccable from start to finish. Not too intrusive yet always on point. As for the food, we would highly recommend the Mariscada : it was very well seasoned, the way only an experienced chef can do as each seafood has different cooking times. It was delicious and we would go back just for that dish. One of the better seafood dish we have experienced in our whole trip in Spain. The fried calamari was also well executed, but did not offer any surprises either. With wine, count about 55€/person. P.S.: if this review was useful in selecting your choices, please leave a quick ❤️, thank you 🙏
Marcos Valen★★★★★
Delicious food! Great service, fast and efficient. Kind and friendly staff. Located in a popular spot of Vigo. Clean and simple.
jorge garcia rey★★★★☆
Good for fresh fish and seafood. Excellent produce and very good Galician empanadas (savoury stuffed bread - with sardines, cuttlefish, scallops; similar to Cornish pasties). Pulpo was also great. Service slow (a bit hit-and-miss, probably because they are so busy at weekends) and overall price was higher than other restaurants with similar quality.
Diogo Ferreira★★★★☆
Service was super quick and friendly. We stayed on the bottom floor next to entrance, the tank and drinks. Arguably the worst table. Also had an unimpeded view to the kitchen, smells are a bit strong. We had: - Croquetas de Jamon e Choco. The squid ones were incredible - Arroz de Marinero for three, really good. Great portion as well 👌 - White wine sangria with just lemon. Simple but great - Tiramisu and Tarte de la Abuela. Great portions and quite rich 39€ per person. A bit pricey but guaranteed to be satisfied

I've eaten a lot of Paellas in my life, and this was not only the best Paella I ever had, it was also one of the best meals I ever had in my 23 years of life. It was absolutely superb. The staff were also extremely competent.
Wadad Lahad★★★☆☆
A nice place located in the main road. They have an indoor and outdoor. The service is good. The place is always busy and full. The frieds Calamri were fresh and tasty. The fillet steak was not a fillet, neither the taste nor the shape.
Luz Bernal★★★★★
A must-visit spot when you're in Vigo. Recently and beautifully renovated, this restaurant offers excellent service and delicious food. The menu is extensive, featuring some of the very best of Galician cuisine, along with a carefully selected wine list to complement every meal. The combination of outstanding food, attentive service, and a welcoming atmosphere makes this a place well worth visiting.
David Teo★★★★☆
Came here at around 6pm for an early dinner after a long day of travelling in / around Vigo. While the kitchen only opened at 7.30, the waiter was kind enough to let us know some dishes which were already available. What stood particularly was the grilled turbot - absolutely superb, so tender and seasoned so simply but also to perfection, with each bite so fresh and delicate. Octopus in Galician style was also right on point, loved the paprika on top.
Marco Galluci★★★☆☆
I had the famous Paella and it was pretty good, It serves 3 to 4 people easily! The vibes of the restaurant are nice, pretty chill, classic, and the waiter that helped us was very good as well. Overall good service, good food, worth the try.

Fantastic service from the moment we stepped in the restaurant, food to die for very taste if ordering lots of different dishes to try between a group of you they bring them out a bit at a time rather than all at once so nothing gets cold. Napkins changed. halfway through as some is finger food, good dessert menu. Wheelchair friendly. 😎

We came across this restaurant by chance after our reservation at Otilho Bar was cancelled without notice. But we didn't regret it at all. The service was just top notch. We ordered octopus, striploin, salad, cheesecake, tiramisu. Every dish was simply unbeatable! We highly recommend this restaurant.

After 4 vacations to Vigo especially to eat seafood, we finally discovered this amazing restaurant! Without a reservation we were gratefully seated during a busy lunchtime. We ordered the Mariscada for 2 persons & the price on the menu said 54.50. We assumed that they probably meant per person when the immense platter arrived! The variety of shellfish was incredible; 2 Necos, multiple varieties of shrimp , 2 kinds of crabs, 2 kinds of clams, etc!!! The crusty bread brought to the table was warm & the friendly service was appreciated. I ended with a sweet crepe for dessert. INCREDIBLE!!!
Andreas 8181★★★★★
This place is amazing! The food was delicious, arrived quickly, and the service was excellent. But the real highlight was the homemade tarta de queso. I've had many cheesecakes in my life, but I've never tasted one that was so light, creamy, and perfectly gooey while still being incredibly flavorful. I would come back just for that cheesecake alone. Highly recommended!
Brian Connell★★★★★
This is one of those restaurants where time appears to have stood still, and if it ever closed, would be mourned by generations of locals. It is traditional, in the sense that the food is unpretentious but high quality, with an emphasis on fish and meat. The servers are busy, sweat dripping from their foreheads which is wiped away with a tiny serviette. The white plates are thick, of industrial strength, and can survive being loosely jostled. The tables have pristine paper tablecloths laid over stained fabric tablecloths. If you wanted to be picky and to ignore where you've arrived to, I'm sure it wouldn't take long. But that would be to ignore the history, tradition and food. Forget everything else. Get the seafood platters, the percebes, the fried sole, razor clams, heap them high, washed down with a local Albarinõ and feast. The meat dishes looked amazing but I only have one stomach, I need to return for that. For now though my advice is simple. Treasure this restaurant and all places like them, you won't see their like again.
Lillian Chung★★★★★
Very nice restaurant, came in an hour before they closed and we were served in less than 15 mins! We were one of the lasts to leave and the waiter didn't rush us to finish, it was very appreciated. Highly recommended, price is reasonable and the food was delicious. We ordered the table for 2 with a seafood platter and a second main course: pulpo al feira and goat. I thought i was not going to finish all these but we did! The amount given was a lot but we managed to finish! Great service!
Cosmina Tudor★★★★★
Food was great, friendly staff and super fast service!

Amazing experience! The food was delicious, the service so great, the employees were all nice and it seems a good work environment, everything clean, elegant, nice treatment, quality food, good portions. Didn’t get to try the cheesecake cause they sold the last one after I ordered, but the waitress apologize in a very polite way and gave us complimentary shots on the house. Will definitely come back, nice place for a special occasion! Just make sure to book in advance because it gets busy, i called at lunch for dinner reservation and they had a table at 10pm, so call in advance

I was invited by my boyfriend to enjoy my birthday in this restaurant in Vigo during our stay here. Oh my! What a place! Not only the delicious dishes that fulfilled every expectation and beyond. The wine was excellent! But above all that the service! The lady made us feel more then welcome and was extremely kind and friendly! Knew all the things how to serve wine or clean the table in between. Every one working in this place seem to know exactly what to do. No stress of hectic. At least we didn’t see any… Thank you very much for making my birthday so exceptional! And the Spanish Happy Birthday sang by all the team was so nice! 👍 🙏🏻
James Dooms★★★★★
Came here for lunch and it did not disappoint. There’s a reason this place is part of the Michelin guide because the food is very tasty with traditional Galician flavours. From the octopus to the rice, everything was very flavourful. The service was tentative and the price is very fair for what you get. Overall a great experience and would definitely recommend.

We drove all the way from Portugal just to visit this restaurant. The experience was just perfect, great service, amazing food. We tried the tuna carpaccio and rice with the monk fish, both dishes were delicious and full of flavours. Also they had the best gluten free bread !! 🥖 aaand they gave us appetizer and free shot of liquor at the end.. wow 🤩

The food was fantastic and the staff was friendly, efficient and helpful. The cod, scallop, crepe with meat with cream sauce, tuna, Greek yogurt ice cream, mojito ice cream, and wine were all delicious. The ambience was nothing to rave about but it was quiet and pleasant. €45 pp including food and drinks.

Proper old school kind of place. Wall to wall with Celta Vigo shirts and memorabilia. Sells great seafood that belies the rather shonky look they have going on.
Ralph Schelling★★★★★
A dream place for seafood foodies!
Martin Strom★★★☆☆
Arroz con bogovante was a disappointment, we’ve had much better elsewhere, and the service is just over the line but only by a wafer. The host was less than engaging with our Galician friends and we will not be returning. Should up their game or else they will start to suffer a downturn in business is our prediction.
Marko Biljan★★★★☆
Bar/restaurant to go! This place is known by locals only (I wouldn't known about it without locals). Also a place where top athletes are going. Don't get discouraged by the appearance of the bar, just drop in. You will get very good sea food! It is cold in the bar (in the winter time), not super clean, the service doesn't have top manners and uniforms, but the food compensate everything.

(I'm local and writing review in English) I am from Vigo and come here every few months, and it's always reliably good, every time, never bad. Perfect galician seafood made with the freshest ingredients and in the simplest way. It can't be tastier, and very reasonable price too. Impossible to find better value and quality. The staff are amazing professionals, they been working here for years.

Practical Tips for Choosing a Seafood Restaurant in Vigo

Selecting the right restaurant is about more than just looking at a menu; it requires a bit of local knowledge to ensure you get the freshest experience possible. The following advice will help you eat like a local and avoid common pitfalls that often lead to mediocre meals in a city known for excellence.

Look for the "Marisquería" label. In Spain, a marisquería specializes specifically in shellfish and seafood, often displaying live specimens in tanks. These establishments usually have a higher turnover of product, which guarantees freshness.

Check the daily catch board. The best restaurants will list what has arrived from the port that morning. If a menu is laminated and features the same items year-round, it is often a sign that frozen or imported products are being used.

Do not be afraid of the percebes. While goose barnacles look intimidating and are often the most expensive item on the menu, they are the ultimate Galician delicacy. Order a small portion to share; the intense briny flavor is unlike anything else in the ocean.

Ask for the local white wine. Skip the international brands and order a bottle of Albariño or Godello from the Rías Baixas region. The high acidity and citrus notes of these wines are scientifically suited to cutting through the richness of shellfish.

Embrace the late lunch. Many restaurants offer a "menú del día" at lunchtime that includes a starter, main course, dessert, and wine for a fixed price. This is often the best value in the city, and the seafood options on these menus are usually the freshest available.

Trust the simplicity of the grill or plancha. When in doubt, order fish that is simply grilled with olive oil and sea salt. This preparation allows you to taste the true quality of the product; if the fish is fresh, it needs nothing else.

Watch for the locals. A restaurant filled with Galician families and workers is almost always a safer bet than one filled only with tourists. Do not be deterred by a lack of English menus; pointing at what the next table is eating is a perfectly acceptable strategy.

Vigo is a city that rewards the curious eater, and the best meals are often found by wandering away from the main tourist thoroughfares. The sound of clinking glasses, the scent of grilled seafood drifting from a kitchen, and the sight of a crowded bar at noon are all indicators that you have found somewhere special.

Ultimately, dining in Vigo is about more than just sustenance; it is a cultural ritual that connects you to the Atlantic and the generations of fishermen who have worked these waters. Take your time, order more than you think you need, and let the freshness of the ocean speak for itself.
