12 Budget-Friendly Hotels near Palais Garnier

Staying near the Palais Garnier places you in the beating heart of Haussmann-era Paris, surrounded by the city’s most iconic department stores, opulent architecture, and unmatched metro connections. It is a district synonymous with luxury, but that does not mean your accommodation has to drain your travel fund. With a little insider knowledge, you can sleep just steps from the Opera House without paying a five-star premium.

The secret to finding affordable lodging in the 9th and 2nd arrondissements lies in knowing where to look. While the grand boulevards are lined with palace hotels, the surrounding side streets hide charming two-star properties, family-run boutiques, and compact design hotels that prioritize comfort over unnecessary frills. These budget-friendly options often trade sprawling lobbies for unbeatable locations and warm, personalized service.

When evaluating value in this area, consider what you are actually paying for: the ability to walk to the Louvre, stroll through Galeries Lafayette, or catch a late-night ballet without worrying about the last metro. By choosing a smaller room or a hotel without a full-service restaurant, you unlock access to one of Paris’s most expensive neighborhoods for a fraction of the expected cost.

Parisian hotel ratings can be deceiving. A two-star hotel in France is often spotlessly clean, secure, and perfectly adequate for travelers who plan to spend their days exploring rather than lounging in a suite. Many of these properties have been recently renovated, offering modern bathrooms, memory foam mattresses, and high-speed Wi-Fi while keeping their historic facades intact.

Location is your greatest ally when saving money. Staying within a ten-minute walk of the Palais Garnier means you are central enough to walk to the Marais, the Seine, or Montmartre without spending a single euro on public transport. This pedestrian advantage effectively adds €10 to €15 per day back into your budget compared to staying in a cheaper outer arrondissement.

Another factor to consider is the time of year. While Paris is always in demand, visiting during the shoulder seasons of early spring or late autumn often reveals significantly lower rates at these centrally located hotels. Booking directly with the hotel rather than through a third-party aggregator can also unlock breakfast inclusions or room upgrades that make a stay feel far more luxurious than the price suggests.

Below is a curated list of reliable, budget-conscious hotels that deliver exceptional value without sacrificing the magic of staying near the Palais Garnier. Each property has been selected for its consistent guest reviews, cleanliness standards, and proximity to the opera district.

We had a very good stay at Monsieur Helder Hotel Opéra. Check-in was very easy & smooth. All staff was very helpful, pleasant & attentive throughout our stay- even helping with our thermostat and extra water in the night. Our room was sufficient, extremely clean, & quiet with a very comfortable bed. Very close to wonderful restaurants, shops and central to the many sights and sounds of Paris. It made our first day/night in Paris wonderful & restful. Would recommend to other travelers.

Very nice hotel but too expensive for what it provides. Especially given I like to travel budget friendly. Location is perfect and service js exceptional

We are disappointed with this hotel. We came here last year and actually enjoyed our stay, so we decided to come again. We booked the same room category but ended up in a much smaller room (??!), definitely not suitable for a vacation for 2 people. Staff told me that this room category has rooms of different sizes, so basically it depends on luck if you get on the wrong floor. For the same price you can get a very different service. Also it is way too expensive for what you get, but we decided to go along with it, expecting something at least slightly enjoyable. It was not, and what I'm complaining about is not indicated anywhere ! No pictures of the room when booking it. This time, our stay also felt different and we realized it was because we were not interacting with the same staff. Receptionist did a good job, but the one we were lucky to meet last year really made a difference. Last year, we felt cared for. It was always nice seeing the receptionnist, chatting a bit, and we knew he'd be happy to help. But the one we met this time was doing his job and that's it. Of course there is nothing wrong, but we realized that it was a big part of what made us enjoy our stay last year, as the receptionnist made us feel home. It definitely made a difference in the fact that we came back. This time, we just felt that we had a bed to sleep in, and we didn't feel attached to the hotel. There was nothing wrong with the receptionnist but we felt he didn't care as much and wouldn't feel enthusiastic interacting with us. That's not a big issue, just a bit sad. All in all we felt like strangers who were expected to give money and not be an annoyance. Service was okay for sure, but we still strongly feel that we got scamed. As returning customers we were excited to come back, and expected a totally different experience. We won't come back.

Ridiculously small rooms at a ridiculously inflated price. All the staff were very pleasant and helpful but the actual amenities of the hotel are ridiculous. One would have more space and privacy in a youth hostel than this €200 euro a night room. Painfully small and under equipped.
Isabel H. Park★★★★☆
The room is tiny but bearable given that you're in Paris. It's clean and compact(well-equipped). The receptionists are pretty kind especially the daytime staff. You might feel a bit overpriced depending on when you visit.

We had 3 people stay in a 1 bedroom suite with 1 single bed and 1 double bed. The apartment is very clean and looks relatively newly renovated. Including very nice bathroom with standing shower. Clean and plenty pressure for shower water. The room have no ac but have ceiling fans ( new style). It was April so weather was good without AC. Location is prime.. near Lourve and central to many areas for Paris and shops. It also has small kitchen and cookwares, because my stay was only for couple days we didn’t cook. Because why would you when Paris have awesome food all around. There is no reception but can call and talk. A none problem for us. Fantastic experience!

May 31, 2026 Disliked: cleanliness, staff & service, amenities, property condition I can only say that I DO NOT recommend it. There are no signs around the area. It was difficult to find, especially at first time. As soon as you enter, the lobby has a very unpleasant smell mould and urine. There's no air conditioning in the room, and the fan didn't help, so I just opened the window. Otherwise, I could get heatstroke. In the early mornings, there was roadwork going on right outside the window, accompanied by beeping and loud conversations... he bathroom sink was clogged because it filled with water within seconds of use, making it unusable. I used the kitchen sink. There were only two tea bags left...but no cups, so I drank tea from a glass. Good location not worth the price.
Justin Nadeau★☆☆☆☆
DO NOT STAY HERE. The only, slightly, redeeming quality about this 'hotel' is its location. The lobby and hallways smell like sewage, the rooms are tiny - barely enough room for two people, the sheets and towels were dirty and old (ours had blood stains), only 1 outlet functioned in our room, and the elevator has a max 200kg limit. I would strongly recommend that you look somewhere else for lodging.
Sonntag März★★★☆☆
The location is very nice. We stayed at the top floor so it wasn't that loud at night. The room is small but quite lovely. Unfortunately the bed is very small and very uncomfortable. Everything looked clean besides the shower window which is very moldy. The whole building has a very bad smell to it. Overall it is fine for a short stay but if you want to stay at the hotel some time to get some rest, I cannot recommed it at all.
Daniele Mancuso★☆☆☆☆
Attention: misleading listing regarding the beds. I booked a French bed, but there was only a single bed. The room was cold and poorly insulated. The cleaning staff made a lot of noise early in the morning and, on the last day before check-out, they knocked twice to ask whether I had paid the city tax, which I had already paid. The bathroom sink was practically clogged. I informed the property immediately but received no response. I do not recommend booking this property.

Clean rooms, however no cleaning throughout the 10-day stay (we really struggled with e the towels, and had to buy toilet paper), no communication on WhatsApp, the place is too small overall, with paper thin walls, through which every single noise frop adiacente rooms can be heard. However the location highly compensated for the above disadvantages wity an added benefit of a small supermarket jus downstairs

Total scam! I’ve come at the apartment late on a friday, i was supposed to spend the weekend in Paris. The place is very small and not properly manteined, but i’m not picky, so i went to the bed: dirty linens with hair and yellow stains, not even ironed. I suddenly called the customer service, who’s not speaking english properly, they told me they can’t do anything. I was tired so i booked another hotel close by and went away without spending more than 30 minutes inside the apartment. The day after i asked a total refund. Now, after a month, i’m still waiting for my refund. I only received a ridiculous offer for settling of 20€ (they called it cleaning fee) and another right today of 80€ where they asked to cancel my review on Booking. As you can imagine, this is one of many other reviews i’ll write then.

This accommodation looked to be a reasonable deal when I booked it. Problems started the day before check in. They had not provided any means to access the property and would not respond to my emails and calls asking for assistance. They eventually took my call at 7pm on the first day of my booking and gave me access to the appartment. When I finally got in (four hours late) they appartment was a complete mess. Bed unmade l, wet towels throughout, bins unempltied, sink full of dishes etc. On calling to complain, they said they didn't have any other rooms for me to stay in so I had to book another hotel at my own cost. When I complained and insisted on my refund, they told me they would return my money both over the phone and via email. It's now two weeks on and they will not respond to my emails and have not returned my money. I now have to go to the bank to explain that this WS Opera accommodation have stolen my funds and have them reverse the transaction. This was the absolute worst accommodation experience of my life. You should avoid booking this hotel at all costs.

Only one thing here is the best - location. You can get for any famous tourist attractions just walking for a 10 minutes. Other things are trash. Flats created like huge apartment were sliced for smaller flats. Rooms so tiny, they smells like... I don't know how, but it is terrible. You should keep windows open to get fresh air all the time. There are black mold on bathroom walls.
GC★☆☆☆☆
I booked this apartments beacuse of the position, that is good. Unfortunately the apartment was too small and not so clean. I ordered a change of towel, that they asked me for, but nobody showed. After the stay I wrote a negative review on booking, and the manage canceled my reservation in order to cancel also my review. Absolutely incorrect behaviour. You have to clean better the apartments and don't use this uncorret way to increase the votes!!

Translation: The rooms without air conditioning were literally like an oven. A single fan isn’t enough to make any difference. The reception area is cool only in the morning during breakfast; afterward, the air conditioning is turned off and it becomes an oven as well. I also feel sorry for the staff who work there—it must be a nightmare. It was not a pleasant stay at all. If you want to leave your luggage after check-out, you’re charged €5 per bag. That’s outrageous. The central location was the only positive aspect.
Adina Serac★☆☆☆☆
The hotel it has barely 3 stars..rooms are very small, even if we got a superior one and no air conditioning. We had some fans in the rooms, but just mixing the hot air..there were like 27 degrees in the room. The staff it is impolite and not willing to help with nothing. Totally not welcoming which it is quite weird for a hotel. The only good thing it is location and cleaning services where a nice lady is in charge. Not recommended.
carol magnanelli★★☆☆☆
Very disappointing stay during the summer. The hotel has no air conditioning or any effective way to keep the rooms cool, which made the heat unbearable. The only solution provided was a small floor fan that barely worked and was extremely noisy. We even had to ask for a replacement because of the noise. For a hotel in Paris during summer, the lack of basic cooling facilities is unacceptable. I would not recommend staying here in hot weather.
Ana Gabriela Ciortoloman★☆☆☆☆
DO NOT STAY AT THIS HOTEL! My belongings were STOLEN from my room because someone took our key card while the man at the reception was not paying attention. If the hotel were to reimburse me, I would probably have posted a review more to raised awareness for the people staying in. But because this is 100% their fault and they have video footage that proves this and they still do not reply to emails and still did not manage to reimburse me 2 months from the incident, this review is more of a STAY AWAY!
Diego Zarzosa★☆☆☆☆
A hotel with no air conditioning. A fan in a room that was 42°C (108°F). When I asked to cancel my stay, they didn't even reply. Quite rude, and the facilities are more like something from centuries past,l. A terrible choice; it's overpriced for what they offer, which is practically nothing. They don't even answer mails. If you can go to another hotel, don't hesitate, run!

Just had a great stay in Hotel Lautrec Opera, it’s so well located. Metro right beside the hotel, loads of cafes, restaurants etc within a minute or two walk. Air con worked well and wasn’t too noisy, had a lovely room with a window opening onto the street. Despite being so central and next to a major street, the hotel is tucked away, so not too noisy at night! Comfortable rooms, good beds, shower good. A good base for exploring the city. The only thing they could improve, is for drinking water to fill water bottles in the foyer. Thumbs up from me!

Another thing is, calling this building the painter's house may be an embellishment. This building was 'la maison close' which the painter visited sometimes. You can find several references to the hotel's address on Wikipedia. I thought of sharing this because it is fair for potential guests to know the actual nature of the building. As this hotel seemed clearly not for 'typical Japanese' customers, I decided to leave after being kept waiting for more than half an hour for check-in. You also have to be ready for being told things like 'Just sit there and wait. This is not Japan' or mocking comments like 'typical Japanese' from seemingly the manager there. I have a recording of the whole conversation, and I am ready to share it if you have any questions. I'm not opposed to the fact that there have been lots of people happily staying there, and this is just to let you know that you have a chance to face an unwelcoming receptionist, which might ruin your stay in Paris.
Javier Yáñez★☆☆☆☆
The rooms are tiny and poorly manteined The location is dark, messy and borderlan dangerous The service is horrendous. Employed make double charges for random concepts and then refuse to refund due to “lack of permissions from management” A shame of an establishment

Great place. Strategic and accessible to food, drinks, shopping and MRT connections. Room is clean, place is quiet and staff is friendly. Try it and you will return again......

A modest and compact hotel that really delivers on comfort, cleanliness, and convenience. As a solo female traveler, I found it ideal for a short stay. The room was quite small, but thoughtfully arranged, with a surprisingly comfortable bed and efficient A/C which is a lifesaver during warm days in Paris! The location is a standout. It is tucked on a quiet, low-traffic street, yet just minutes from metro stations, great dining spots, and major shopping and tourist areas. As a female solo traveler and a first-timer to Paris I felt pretty safe walking around during the day, though I can’t speak to what it’s like at night since I didn’t go out then. While my room’s window faced a concrete wall, it didn’t bother me much because I was only there to sleep after full days out exploring. A few minor drawbacks: no microwave, a fridge that wasn’t very cold, a slow-draining sink, and thin walls (you may hear your neighbors in the bathroom). That said, for the price and location, it’s hard to beat. If you’re looking for a practical, no-fuss place to stay with everything you really need, this hotel is a solid choice. Highly recommended!

At first glance you will probably hate this hotel. It's tiny, the rooms are tiny, the bathroom is tiny, it doesn't look anything like the pictures online(it was recently redone). However, for its price point it is amazing. It is so close to downtown Paris. The Mo'Marte is a 20 minute walk away. The service here is friendly and are quick to lend a helping hand. My suggestion is to skip the breakfast. Definitely not worth the extra money when there is a whole city full of incredible bakeries all around. Overall nice place to stay on a budget.

Aweful hotel, aweful service. Stay Away! I walked into the hotel and tried to book a room last minute. Hotel asked that I put in a "guarantee" and said I would be able to inspect the room before booking. I went back, a couple hours later, to inspect and decided not to stay there as the room stunk of cigarettes and was super noisy. When I tried to get my money back they claimed it was nonrefundable. I had to put in a dispute with my credit card company.... and now I'm not even sure if I will get my money back. Side note: I spent 10 days in Paris and 3 different hotels. Did not have a problem with any one of them!!! Only this one!
Celia Grande★★☆☆☆
Way too much noise that comes from outside or collindant rooms. The elevator starts in the first floor, forcing clients to carry their baggage one floor upstairs. The room is okay with no curtains or blinds.

It’s been many years, but it was a fine smaller hotel, reasonably priced. I had a good time just chatting with the staff later in the evening.

Grand Hôtel du Havre: no goodwill — not recommended I booked this hotel at the gate, only minutes before my scheduled flight, because its location is often essential for my travels. When the airline changed my flight, I asked Trip.com to cancel the booking and provided supporting documentation. Trip.com told me that the property had declined my request. The room was never used, I received no refund, and I was left to bear the consequences alone. I travel frequently and have dealt with many disruptions. Hotels have always helped before—sometimes after reviewing supporting documents, sometimes simply as a matter of goodwill. The Grand Hôtel du Havre is the first hotel I have encountered to respond in this way. Having read other public reviews describing concerns about the hotel, I was left with the impression that building a pool of repeat customers may not be a priority here. The decision to retain a single payment rather than make a goodwill exception has certainly cost this hotel a returning guest: me. For this reason, I cannot recommend staying here. I am almost grateful to be a citizen of a country whose consumer law provides broader statutory protection when plans change unexpectedly, rather than leaving the outcome entirely to a hotel’s goodwill. I am considering referring this matter to the relevant consumer-protection authorities and the Tourism and Travel Mediator. The hotel has earned its rating.

I don’t know if am going to be able to sleep. Walked in late and evening since I missed my train. Extremely dirty carpet and smelly. Dust and damp. Listen, if you just need a place to rest this place in the middle of Paris, this is what this place will give you. This is literally central paris, you get a queen sized bed with fresh sheets, you have a washroom. This hotel is not good for light sleepers because of the subway that is running under it at all times BUT if you sleep like a rock or are only here to sleep after a full day of activities, this hotel has got you. They are effective, they have rooms, they are central paris. Only use this as a bedroom this is NOT an apartment (maybe a 3×3m space, bed takes up most of it). ALSO you get a very Parisian view from your window. Will note the air conditioning is non existent so the window will do its job if you leave it open at night).

The hotel cancelled my reservation just two days before my arrival. When I contacted them, they told me they didn’t know why the reservation had been cancelled and said, “it’s not my problem.” I then asked to speak with a manager or someone else, but the person I was speaking to claimed they were the manager and the only staff member working at the hotel.

The room was very comfortable and clean. Plenty of space to hang up your clothes, a kettle in the room made it nice to make a coffee in the morning. Staff where amazing. Could not fault. bottled Water always on hand for free. Fam in room if needed. Room was small but had a balcony. Little outdated in decor in places. But satisfied needs. But clean and maintenence good. Didnt get breakfast.so cant comment on that. Local food Korean style in area. Little too far out for us location wise. For the money we paid was good. Small hotel . Fully working lift. Spiral stairs. Wouldn't stay again jusy due to location for us. But would recommend for anyone on a budget

I chose this hotel because I was drawn to the fact that Baudelaire once stayed here during his early, lesser-known years. From the balcony of my classic-style room, I could even see the National Library — a wonderful setting for anyone who loves literature. The neighborhood is full of charming cafés, restaurants, and boutiques, and the location is fantastic. The Louvre Museum, the Opéra Garnier, and the Palais-Royal are all about a 10-minute walk away. I truly enjoyed staying in such an inspiring and convenient area. That said, I wouldn’t recommend having high expectations for the breakfast😅

Hotel Baudelaire is conveniently located just north of the Louvre near several metro stops that can get you across the city! The staff are incredible, every single one was very helpful spoke great English and were very accommodating of my poor French attempts (Merci!). The beds were firm. The showers had excellent water pressure, and it was a wonderful base of operations for our week long trip! Thank you to the staff for helping make Paris magical for my wife and our friends!

Hotel Baudelaire Opéra is a solid choice if you’re looking for a well-located, no-frills stay in Paris. As a three-star hotel, it offers good value for money, with decent rooms that are generally clean, even if not perfect. The location is convenient, and the service stands out as particularly friendly and welcoming, making the overall experience easy and comfortable. A reliable option if you want something simple that does the job well. Quietly rated: worth stopping.

Our second stay at the F-A and it was very good. The people who work here are excellent, competent and friendly. Our rooms were clean, well kitted out and comfortable. Hmm… Where to start. This little gem in the 9th arrodissement is truly a find. 2 star hotel but 5 star service. The staff was ever so helpful - what ever we asked for, was met with a smile. Wifi wasn’t working for couple of days and they gave us free breakfast for those days. They also arranged us a drive from and to the CDG airport; extra charge of course. Our twin bed room on the 5th floor was small but cosy and clean. The bathroom was nice and the shower had its’ own little space so the whole floor wasn’t wet after shower. Rooms were cleaned daily if you wanted. The breakfast was nice - croissants, pain au chocolat, omelette, bacon - you name it. In the room was a water kettle and some tea. Very good sound insulation - once the windows were closed you could hear nothing from the streets. The hotel had a facade renovation with scaffolding but that didn’t bother us at all. And the location - quiet little street with a small suoermarket just on the opposite side of the street. Lots of restaurants and bars around and Saint-Georges metro stop just few minutes down the street. All in all I can truly recomment this sweet little hotel. Un grand merci au charmant personnel ❤️

For a 2 star hotel it’s an OK hotel: good beds, amazing breakfast for a 2 star, great shower. However, I asked for a quiet room. I got a room at the back, so yes no noise from the stteey. But they gave me a room right next to the elevator which I heard zooming up and down all night long. If you book this hotel make sure to ask a room far away from the elevator. Also be aware that the doors are not sound proof so you will hear other guests walking past or slamming their doors.

The hotel is under renovation. The service was very good. Marilia & Valeria welcomed us and took care of us well. They offer free water, still and sparkling and refreshments for sale. Located walking distance from everything. Remember that most streets in Paris are one way and walking make actually be faster than taking a taxi. AC was good, but could have been installed at a better location than blowing 100% into the bathroom. The airflow was minimal at best. Their breakfast was absolutely delicious and plenty in a quantity and quality. Would I stay here again? Absolutely.

Great location (walking distance to Montmartre). Competitive prices (£100). Clean rooms. Friendly staff. Basic but we really enjoyed our stay.

Tips for Booking a Budget Hotel near Palais Garnier

Securing the best possible rate in this prestigious district requires a strategic approach rather than just luck. The following recommendations will help you maximize comfort while minimizing costs, ensuring your Parisian trip focuses on experiences rather than expensive overheads.

Travel during the shoulder season. Avoid the summer peak and the December holiday rush. Rates in late January, February, and November can be up to 40% lower for the exact same rooms near the Opera. The weather is cooler, but the museums and cafes are far less crowded, offering a more authentic local experience.

Look for "Continental Breakfast" options. Many budget hotels in the 9th arrondissement include a simple French breakfast of coffee, croissant, and juice in the room rate. Taking advantage of this saves you €10 to €15 per person compared to eating at a sidewalk café every morning, which adds up significantly over a week.

Choose a room on a higher floor. If you are sensitive to street noise, request a room overlooking the courtyard or on the upper floors. Hotels near the Grands Boulevards can be lively late into the evening; a quieter room ensures you sleep well without paying for soundproofing upgrades found in luxury properties.

Verify the elevator situation. Many historic Haussmann buildings have narrow staircases and retrofitted elevators that are quite small. If you are traveling with large luggage or have mobility concerns, confirm the elevator dimensions and whether it stops on every floor to avoid an inconvenient surprise upon arrival.

Book refundable rates and monitor prices. Paris hotel prices fluctuate based on events, fashion weeks, and even weather. Book a refundable rate early to secure your room, then set a price alert. If the rate drops, cancel and rebook directly with the hotel to capture the savings without any penalty.

Navigating the hotel landscape around the Palais Garnier does not require sacrificing the romance or convenience of central Paris. By focusing on well-reviewed, smaller properties and applying a few smart booking tactics, you can allocate your travel budget toward unforgettable dinners, museum passes, and perhaps a ticket to the opera itself.

Ultimately, the goal of your trip is to experience the elegance of the Opera district, not to spend your days commuting from the outskirts. A well-chosen budget hotel here keeps you immersed in the city’s beauty from the moment you step out the door until the lights of the Palais Garnier dim behind you at night.
