12 Best Asian Restaurants in Rouen

Rouen may be world-famous for its Gothic architecture and connections to Joan of Arc, but the historic capital of Normandy has also quietly become a dynamic destination for food lovers. While the city is traditionally associated with butter-rich French classics and sweet patisseries, its dining scene has expanded dramatically to embrace global flavors. Among the most exciting developments is the growing variety of Asian cuisine, offering everything from steaming bowls of pho to expertly seared sushi.

Finding authentic Asian food in a city steeped in French culinary tradition can be a challenge, especially if you are visiting for the first time. You might be looking for a quick, healthy lunch between sightseeing stops, or perhaps you want a relaxed dinner that breaks away from the usual bistro fare. Either way, knowing where the locals go is the key to avoiding tourist traps and experiencing the true depth of flavor this city has to offer.

The restaurants on this list represent the best of Rouen’s diverse Asian food landscape. We have considered not just the quality of the ingredients, but also the authenticity of the recipes, the atmosphere of the dining room, and the consistency of the service. Whether you are a resident looking for a new favorite spot or a traveler craving the comfort of noodles and spice, there is something here to satisfy your appetite.

From the bustling streets near the Place du Vieux-MarchΓ© to the quieter lanes surrounding the Rouen Cathedral, these eateries are spread throughout the city center. Each one brings a unique regional focus, whether it is the delicate balance of Japanese sushi, the fiery heat of Thai curries, or the rich complexity of Chinese and Vietnamese classics. You will find that many of these chefs have adapted their menus to highlight fresh Norman produce while staying true to their culinary roots.

Navigating the restaurant scene in a foreign city can be overwhelming, especially when you are balancing a packed itinerary of museums and historical sites. That is why we have curated this guide to the twelve best Asian restaurants in Rouen. You can trust that these selections have been vetted for their ability to deliver a memorable meal that rivals the city’s best traditional French tables.

1. Great food! I had a salad with beef and a Vulcan beef. Both were made excellently, mostly due to the nice handmade sauces. 2. The personal was super sweet. 3. The location with the outside terrace is great and not overcrowded. 4. Definitely recommend!

We are on a trip through Normandy and have been trying as much French food as possible. For four days, we didn't have a truly great meal until we found this place. The chef is very friendly and has a spectacular talent for combining flavors. Without a doubt, this was the best food we've had in months. Highly recommended!

Not good for people with allergies. I told the waitress twice that I had a peanut allergy and she assured me that what I’d chosen would be fine. Then she served me a dish with peanuts clearly on top and when I asked she said it was rice then I asked another server who said its peanuts on top!! So I repeated that I had an allergy and they changed the rice but when I ate it I reacted so there must have be traces or something. Either way they didn’t take my allergy seriously at all and I had to take my epipen and get picked up in an ambulance AND after all that they still made me pay for my meal that I had two bites of and meant that I had to spend the day in hospital! Seems like a nice resto as long as you dont have a serve peanut allergy.

This small gem is excellent if you are looking for a hit of flavor and spice. The chef cooks a variety of south asian dishes in the open. He has some inspired fusion ideas. My wife and I picked a couple of dishes with heat warnings and were not disappointed.

Don’t miss it in Rouen if you love the real taste of the Hongkong food. The chef couple is from HK, friendly&polite, and with good service and very clean. They speak cantonese, English and French. So happy to find this restaurant, will be back for sure.

Amazing restaurant serving delicious Hong Kong cuisine. Limited menu, which always bodes well, and the staff are very thoughtful and attentive. Food was delicious. I had the Prawn Fried Dumplings to start and the Beef udon noodles for main. Both freshly made with good quality ingredients. Would return be back in a heart beat if I wasn’t only in Rouen for a night.

It is a small restaurant with a great atmosphere. We had noodles with beef and fried rice with an omelet, both of which were very delicious. Furthermore, the red bean ice drink was also good.

First of all, all the dishes were incredibly delicious. I ordered the seafood bouillon noodles and they were amazing β€” unlike some ramen dishes that can be quite bland. My friends tried the Yumyum and the Chicken Exotique, and they said they absolutely loved them. Xia long bao were delicious. Loved the sakura mochi, so fresh. I love asian desserts because they are not too sweet. Coconut pearls were also very good. The atmosphere was very cute and cozy. The owners were incredibly sweet, and we were very happy with the service. Every detail in the place was clearly thought through with care. The plush keychain they gave us at the counter was also unbelievably cute πŸ₯° I would definitely recommend it β€” a must-visit Asian restaurant in Rouen. We’ll definitely be back to try the other dishes.

We had a really good experience, the staff was welcoming and kind; food was great, tasty and the portions were really generous. Optimal place to eat considering the price we paid as well. Would recommend visiting. The quality of the homemade pasta was a highlight of the meal.

This was our third visit this year, but the food quality has really gone downhill compared to a few months ago. The dishes looked awful and tasted bad. Honestly, we could barely eat them. As a Chinese person, I’m pretty sure it’s not the same chef. The dish I ordered before looked and tasted completely different this time. I was especially shocked that the Kung Pao shrimp tasted like it was made with ketchup and brown sugar. The staff wouldn’t admit it, but something has clearly changed. Sadly, we won’t be coming back, and we can’t recommend this restaurant because of the inconsistent food quality and the staff’s unwillingness to acknowledge the issue.

Definitely a must eat location, especially on a Sunday evening when little else worthwhile is open. We had chicken teriyaki and beef with onions. Both very tasty, and of ample size for a main course. Washed down by a glass of rose. Very enjoyable evening.

A wonderful place just off the main tourist restaurants area. It’s a beautiful little place with extremely friendly staff. I order the nems followed by pork caramel. The best Vietnamese food in France! This is a must visit if you come to Rouen. It is in an excellent location near the cathedral as well as the shopping streets. The food is also exceptional. Amazing portions and very authentic taste. The price is also very good; the formules are a great deal. I paid 20 euros for an appetiser, main dish, and an espresso for lunch.

We went to Bistrot Saigon for dinner. We had two bowls of Pho, noodles with pork and the caramelised pork. The food was was flavoursome, fresh and quick. The Pho broth was really good, as was the beef - tender and rare, just as it should be. Could always do with a bit more herbs, bean sprouts to go with the meal - felt a bit light for my liking. The pork with noodles was really well prepared - lots of fresh herbs with the meal, pork was yummy and very little fat. Nuoc Mam sauce was a good balance between sweet and chilli. The caramelised pork with eggs was delicious - perfect balance between caramel flavour, meat and egg. Maybe slightly more rice to go with the meal but that is personal choice. Would recommend and would go back.

Absolutely delicious Taiwanese food! Every dish we tried was full of flavor, fresh, and clearly prepared with care. The quality of the ingredients and the authenticity of the cuisine really stood out. The staff were friendly, and the overall experience was excellent. I would definitely come back without any hesitation. The only downside was that I visited during a heatwave, and the dining room could have benefited from air conditioning or stronger cooling. Apart from that, everything was fantastic. Highly recommended! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

My family and I visited this restaurant in search of an nice Asian restaurant. The place was beyond our expectations. The food was awesome and the customer service was amazing. The waiter was very nice. They have a small range of food options varying from beef, pork, champions and tofu, but don’t let that fool you, the food quality was exceptional. Hmm, it was a bit odd. I don't think I agree with the very high ratings this restaurant has on Google. It's not a bad place, but it has its own take on Asian food, with various cuisines mixed on the menu. The main dishes are very generous (or too large), the rice is good. I had a bibimbap which lacked the traditional gochujang sauce (or any sauce for that matter), though it was served in the correct dish/bowl.

WORST.FOOD.EVER!!! This is the ONE place to avoid if you are ever in Rouen and craving Asian cuisine. We were β€œlured” into the restaurant, what with its wafting asian cuisine smells during our last two days of staying in the neighbourhood!!! And we were sooooo excited to try and eat Asian food in France!!! Only to be disappointed beyond belief. I have never ever written a bad review. I believe in not going back to a place/restaurant where I had a bad experience than writing about it on β€œsocial media”. But this restaurant and experience has forced me to go against my personal approach in the interest of the community. My husband and I ordered a main dish each and then ordered a plate of Udon noodles to share…that’s when it all went south and we were sternly told by the waiter that we couldn’t get the β€œfree rice” that was supposed to be a part of the main dish. My husband said that we were fine to pay for the β€œfree rice”…but the racist attack had started and continued!!! The waiter gave us a horrible vibe - why are you customers here???? NOT AT ALL SUITABLE FOR THIS JOB!!! These photos should be a testament to what we (my husband and I) experienced:

Really good place for Asian food in the heart of the city! This lovely place offer variety of traditional Asian plates, with rich and fresh flavors. The dishes were quite big, and the prices were pretty cheap compared to other types of restaurants in the region. I also liked the atmosphere and the service, which was friendly also for foreigners. I highly recommend go there!

Crispy (and fast!) shrimp tempura and a beef bimbimbap that was as good as any I've ever had made this experience a 5/5. Add to that the fact that I ordered the wrong dish, which was promptly replaced without question, makes my recommendation even more sincere. Great food, great service, great memory.

An absolutely fantastic bowl of Pho Bo! It can be hard to find a place that respects the traditional details, but this spot nails it. They use proper beef cuts with excellent texture, and the thinly sliced beef was served perfectly medium-rareβ€”just the way it should be. The generous mountain of fresh basil and scallions was the perfect finishing touch. Highly recommend!

We were staying in Rouen as tourist. So we hoped to find a good place to eat. We arrived and were assigned a table. After a while we grabbed a menu cart for ourselves from the counter, after more waiting we went up to the counter and asked if she was going to take our orders. We figured she was too busy and therefor told us to put in our order on the tablet next to the counter... Like in McDonalds. Our dinner arrived separately and was just put on the table without any further interaction... Like in McDonalds. The food itself was ok, tasted like they followed a Vietnamese recipe with local groceries but did not want to add any special spices. All in all this place is perfect if you want to try Vietnamese and take it home with you. For us it was not a very memorable experience, but for the cold Vietnamese coffee...those were good!
Regina Reynoldsβ˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…
The food here was delicious. Their coffee and tea is also top notch. However, this place is insanely busy, and there aren't that many seats, so you may end up standing around for a while until a table clears. I'm not sure if that's a problem throughout the day or if we just happened to show up at an extremely busy time for them. Pro tip: the plastic on top of the bubble tea is very sturdy, so don't be afraid to really go for it with the straw!

The most terrible vietnamese food I ever had here in France. My friend noodles wasn't salty at all, it was covered with soy sauce, but just tasted like no seasoning at all.

The most delicious ramen soup we've ever had! A variety of fresh and delicious vegetables in the soup. The first course - asparagus with fruit, a bit strange, we didn't like it as much.

My partner and I were visiting from the UK and spoke very little French. The waitress and bartender were both amazing and tried their best to understand us and figure out our orders. The food was delicious, best karaage we’ve had before and the ramen was to die for. Could not recommend more, left a tip for the amazing service.

Food was good. Excellent service and atmosphere. The Karaage and aubergines were stand out. They also offer hot Sake. The meat for the ramen was cold.

When I say this place stands out as one of our best experiences in a 2-month-long European tour, you will find I am not exaggerating. Mizu is one of the best places in Rouen, and a must if you are looking for a spot to eat. I can tell you first hand the Chef is someone I know personally. He is exceptionally dedicated to Japanese culinary history and techniques, and could write volumes on the matter. This is a labor of love. You will be hard pressed to find a more kind and talented kitchen anywhere in France like the fine people here at Mizu. The plating is immaculate, the flavors; rich, complex, hearty. The staff were some of the most welcoming we have experienced. The atmosphere was fun and laid back, a very hip place to stop by and enjoy some of the very delicate mix drinks with friends. Hugo, we miss you and can’t wait to return. Good luck, Mizu!

Tips for Choosing the Best Asian Dining Experience in Rouen

To make the most of your culinary journey in Rouen, it helps to know a little about how the local dining scene operates. While the city is welcoming to tourists, many of the best restaurants operate on French dining schedules, which can differ significantly from other countries. Understanding a few local customs and planning ahead can elevate your meal from good to unforgettable.

Book a table in advance. Rouen is a busy city, and the best restaurants often fill up quickly, especially on Friday and Saturday nights. Even if a place looks small or casual, calling ahead or booking online ensures you will not be turned away at the door.

Check the opening hours carefully. Many Asian restaurants in Rouen close between lunch and dinner service, typically from 2:30 PM to 7:00 PM. If you are used to eating dinner early or late, plan your schedule around these windows to avoid finding the doors locked.

Ask about spice levels. Don’t be shy about asking the staff how spicy a dish is before you order. While some restaurants cater to French palates by toning down the heat, others pride themselves on serving authentic, fiery versions of Thai or Sichuan dishes. A quick conversation with your server can save you from an uncomfortable surprise.

Look for lunchtime menus. If you want to experience a high-end restaurant without breaking the bank, visit during lunch. Many of the top Asian spots offer a "menu du midi" or set lunch that includes an appetizer, main course, and sometimes dessert at a fraction of the dinner price.

Pay attention to the tea and dessert menus. A truly great Asian restaurant will often put as much care into its beverage and dessert selections as it does into its main courses. Look for places that offer imported teas, homemade mochi, or traditional sweet soups, as this is a strong indicator of attention to detail and authenticity.

Be open to fusion. Rouen’s location in Normandy means chefs have access to incredible local produce, dairy, and seafood. Some of the best Asian restaurants in the city creatively incorporate these ingredients into their dishes. A sushi roll featuring Norman cream cheese or a curry made with local vegetables can be a delicious reflection of the region.

Rouen offers a remarkable variety of Asian dining options that go far beyond the standard takeout experience. By exploring these restaurants, you are not just feeding yourself; you are participating in a cultural exchange that highlights how global flavors can thrive in a historic French setting. The city’s commitment to quality dining ensures that even the most discerning foodie will find a new favorite spot.

As you wander through the medieval streets with their half-timbered houses, let your senses guide you toward the inviting aromas of ginger, lemongrass, and soy. Whether you choose a steaming bowl of ramen to warm up on a rainy Norman day or a platter of fresh sashimi to enjoy on a sunny terrace, the Asian restaurants of Rouen are ready to impress. Bon appΓ©tit!
