10 Specialty Coffee Shops near the Louvre Museum

Standing in the courtyard of the Louvre, surrounded by centuries of art and history, can be an overwhelming experience. After navigating the endless galleries of the Cour Carrée or fighting the crowds near the Mona Lisa, your energy levels are bound to dip. Fortunately, the Parisian coffee scene has evolved dramatically, leaving behind the days of harsh, bitter espressos in favor of carefully sourced beans and precise brewing methods. You no longer have to settle for a mediocre café crème just because you are in a tourist-heavy district.

The area surrounding the Palais Royal and the 1st arrondissement has quietly become a haven for coffee purists. Here, you can find Australian-style flat whites, Scandinavian light roasts, and French artisan roasters all within a short walking distance of the museum. These spaces offer a perfect contrast to the gilded opulence of the Louvre, providing minimalist interiors where the focus is entirely on what is in your cup. Whether you need a pre-museum caffeine boost or a post-exhibition place to rest your feet, the options are exceptional.

Understanding the geography of the neighborhood is key to planning your visit efficiently. The Louvre is massive, and the distance between the entrance at the Pyramid and the edge of the Palais Royal can be significant after a long walk. The best specialty coffee spots are clustered on the northern and eastern edges of the museum, making them highly accessible if you are exiting near Rue de Rivoli or heading toward the Bourse de Commerce. Choosing the right spot depends on whether you prioritize a quick takeaway, a comfortable seat, or a specific pastry pairing.

These establishments are more than just pit stops; they are destinations for those who appreciate the craft of coffee. Many of the baristas working behind these counters have trained rigorously, competing in national championships and sourcing beans directly from farms in Ethiopia, Colombia, and Brazil. They treat espresso extraction and milk steaming with the same precision a sommelier might apply to a fine Burgundy. This dedication to craft ensures that your sensory experience in Paris extends beyond the visual arts.

While Paris is traditionally a city of café terraces where you linger for hours, the specialty coffee culture here often operates on a slightly faster rhythm, especially in the morning. However, that does not mean you should rush. Many of these locations offer baked goods that rival the city’s best boulangeries, from cardamom buns to perfectly laminated croissants. Pairing a naturally processed pour-over with a fresh pastry is one of the most satisfying breakfasts you can have before entering the museum.

Accessibility and atmosphere vary widely from one shop to the next. Some are standing-room-only espresso bars designed for a quick shot, while others offer cozy basements or sunlit back rooms where you can rest your tired legs. Because this area is a hub for both luxury shopping and tourism, the best spots are often tucked away on quiet side streets or inside historic passageways. Finding them feels like discovering a secret, a quiet rebellion against the generic chains lining the main boulevards.

To help you navigate the noise and find the truly exceptional cups, we have curated a list of the best specialty coffee experiences near the Louvre. These are places where the grind is dialed in daily, the water is filtered, and the milk is textured to a glossy shine. After exploring our recommendations, you will also find essential tips for navigating the local coffee culture like a pro.

Had a wonderful and easy experience here this morning. Ordered on a screen which made all the options clear and easy to add alternative milks and extras. The barista was very efficient, kind and deserves her praise. Thank you !

Finding a great specialty coffee shop in Paris made our day. The coffee was absolutely delicious—smooth, rich, and perfectly brewed. The café is beautifully designed with a calm, cozy atmosphere, making it the perfect place to start the morning. If you’re looking for a great cup of coffee in Paris, this is definitely a spot worth visiting.

Unpretentious quant coffee shop located on St. Honoré. Flat white was solid and smooth. Not acidic and coffee is roasted nicely. Wife went with matcha w touch of honey. She said it was very good as well. If in the area a must try post shopping at Chanel. 🙂

A veritable quiet haven in the middle of the day. Frequented by university students quietly studying. We enjoyed a Focaccia Rustique. The single staff member obviously enjoys working there and it shows in her attitude. A gem. 💎

Amazing coffee, our adventure to find a speciality coffee store in Paris was successful! Amazing filter and espresso selection, roasted and brewed to perfection.
Charlotte Hughes★★★★★
As a trained barista myself (although I have moved careers now) I have to say the coffee was one of the best I have ever had. The beans, the roast, the grind, the pour - it was all so delicious. Such a deeply satisfying cup of coffee that I wanted another one immediately after! The staff were so friendly, very polite about my terrible French! They had such incredible knowledge about their product and helped me when choosing some beans to take home. The cinnamon roll and the hazelnut cookie were a delight. If you’re the sort of person who gets their coffee from big name brands then you probably wouldn’t enjoy or appreciate this place. If you’re somewhat of a coffee connoisseur, then you have to experience it. It is a little pricey but my goodness, it’s worth it. Next time I’m in Paris, this is the 1st place I’m going.

This café had good quality; we had an Americano and a Matcha Latte and were satisfied. But the prices are a bit high. The seating area is also very European-style, meaning it’s a bit cramped 😃😃
Addy Em★★★★☆
I had a great v60/Origami pourover cup here. It was a much better pour than at motors cafe that was double the price for a similar bean/roast. It felts like the brew was more carefully done, with focus and patience. It was also not a rushed experience.

Savory crêpes here are so good that we ended up ordering a second one after finishing the first. Highly recommend the kebab + cheese + egg combination — super flavorful and satisfying. We also tried the banana chocolate crêpe for dessert and it was delicious too. Definitely worth a visit!

You will be missing out if you don’t eat here. The 6 gentlemen work like clockwork, knowing what the other is thinking. Efficient, friendly, small establishment that’s big on taste, value, and team work. The New York sandwich is great sandwich that starts with a nice crunch of the French baguette. The crepes are exceptionally large and loaded, and packed with flavour and freshness. This is a bucket list restaurant for lunch that’s outstanding value. My kids loved the food. You guys are brilliant, thank you.

Happy Café was such a fun stop for us—definitely one we’ll remember! We ordered two Nutella crepes, a Kinder Bueno crepe, a Nutella crepe with pistachio ice cream, and a marshmallow-topped donut, and everything was delicious. The crepes were warm, soft, and generously filled (we clearly couldn’t get enough of the Nutella 😄). The Kinder Bueno crepe was super indulgent and perfect for chocolate lovers, and the Nutella crepe with pistachio ice cream was a great combo—rich, creamy, and a little different. The donut topped with marshmallows was also a fun, sweet treat. But by far, the highlight was the owner. He was absolutely hilarious and created such a welcoming, friendly atmosphere. He made us feel right at home from the moment we arrived, which really made the whole experience stand out. Great desserts, amazing vibes, and an owner who truly makes the place special—we’d definitely come back!

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Best Milkshakes and coffee in opposite big wheel. Paris – Bon Appétit! If you’re looking for one of the best milkshakes in Paris, this place is a must-visit! The milkshakes are incredibly rich, creamy, and perfectly blended with high-quality ingredients. Every sip is packed with flavor, and the presentation is just as impressive as the taste. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, and the staff are friendly and attentive, making the whole experience even better. Whether you’re craving a classic chocolate shake or something more indulgent, you won’t be disappointed. Highly recommended for anyone with a sweet tooth. Bon appétit!

Happy Café definitely lives up to its name. The people here are genuinely kind, friendly, and seem to enjoy what they do. The menu has plenty of great options, and everything we ordered was fresh and delicious. You can really see why it’s called Happy Café. It’s not just the food, it’s the people. We’d happily come back the next time we’re in Paris. One small thing that really stood out: one of our orders was taking a little longer than expected, and since it was such a hot day, the staff brought us complimentary lemon drinks while we waited to make sure we stayed hydrated. It’s little gestures like that which turn a good meal into a memorable experience.

A fantastic café on Rue de Rivoli and the perfect place to take a break while exploring Paris. The atmosphere is pleasant and relaxing, the coffee is excellent, and the food is fresh and delicious. The service is friendly, attentive, and efficient, making the whole experience even more enjoyable. Great location, fair prices for the area, and a lovely spot to enjoy breakfast, lunch, or an afternoon coffee. Highly recommended.

Honestly the best spot! Amazing location right in front of the Louvre, but still such a relaxed and chilled atmosphere. Everything was great, but what really made it special was Eva, the manager. She is genuinely the loveliest person ever and made us feel so welcome from the moment we arrived. So warm, friendly and incredibly hospitable. Would 100% recommend and definitely come back! 🤍

One of the most beautiful cafes I’ve been to in Paris. The place itself is cozy but since it’s located in the heart of the city, it’s a bit noisy but def not a problem to have a casual convo. The banana matcha with cream is good but a bit watery for those who like sweet matcha and slightly expensive for the portion. But def will come back and try out the cake!
Nick P★★★★☆
I stopped by this café and tried their iced matcha drink, which was really good and had a nice, balanced flavor. The quality of the drink was great, and I enjoyed the overall experience. My only complaint is that the portion size felt a bit small for the price. Other than that, everything was enjoyable, and I’d consider coming back. The café had a welcoming atmosphere that made it a nice place to relax for a bit. I’d definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a tasty matcha drink, as long as they don't mind paying a little extra.

Great food, with quick friendly service. All the food and drink we ordered here were very good. The Crazy BeneAddict was delicious with perfectly poached eggs and sauce, with a fresh and flakey crossiant that paired really well with everything. The Miss Tatin French toast was sweet and savoury but maybe a bit too heavy for an early morning breakfast dish. The yogurt and macchiato were also done really well, and the ice tea was delicious. Just a note that their location is undergoing renovation until mid Aug 2026 so they have temporarily relocated to another spot just across street and slightly further north. This location is comfortably sized with nice decor.

I had breakfast here every morning during my stay in Paris, and it quickly became one of the highlights of my trip. The bread was always fresh, the muffins were served warm, and everything was absolutely delicious. It’s such a pretty place, with a lovely, welcoming atmosphere that made each morning feel special. The perfect way to start the day in Paris.

Lovely breakfast spot in Paris with plenty of healthy, vegetarian and gluten-free options. We tried the avocado toast, greek yogurt with homemade granola, and the crazy beneaddict, everything was really tasty and fresh. The only downside is that the restaurant is very tiny. We were 5 people and had to sit packed next to each other, so we left right after finishing our breakfast.

I visit for breakfast and brunch, very good food I liked the scrambled egg with mushroom and spinach. pancake is fluffy and delicious. Excellent Coffee. It’s a small place usually full of people. However the waiting time is decent I tried it twice waiting time is less than 10 minutes especially for couples and small groups.

I had a wonderful time at this charming café! The drinks were absolutely delightful—the Hot Chocolate was rich and decadent, and the barista did a stunning job with the latte art. The Americano was hands down the best I've had in days; it was incredibly smooth, with a perfectly balanced flavor that was neither bitter on the palate nor in the aftertaste. • Crazy BeneAddict 🥐 ◦ Description: Thin slices of smoked salmon, 2 poached eggs, and Benedict sauce, garnished with dill. ◦ Review: This was delicious! The combination of flavors was spot on, and the portion was very satisfying for one person. • The Brouillade 🍳 ◦ Description: 3 farm-fresh scrambled eggs, pan-fried halloumi, sautéed spinach & roasted mushrooms, homemade pesto, served with a baguette. ◦ Review: This dish was a winner! The scrambled eggs were incredibly generous (I couldn't finish them all!), and the halloumi added a lovely salty touch. The complimentary baguette was perfect for soaking up the flavors. I would love a bit more bread next time to enjoy every last bite! I will definitely be coming back for more!

We were absolutely delighted with our evening at Le Marly. We had booked a table in the row closer to the Louvre courtyard. However, when we were seated, we were given a table next to a service station for the waiters, which partially blocked our view of the pyramid. I politely asked whether it would be possible to move us if a table with a full view of the pyramid became available. The hostess was incredibly kind and, with a smile, did everything she could to make it happen. Within just five minutes, another table became free, and as soon as it was cleared, she moved us there. That thoughtful gesture truly made our evening, especially because we were celebrating an important occasion. The magical lights of the Louvre added an extra touch of magic to the whole atmosphere. I would also like to highlight the excellent service. The waiters speak English fluently, are attentive, and are happy to help with choosing dishes. By the way, the cheesecake is absolutely incredible, and we also really enjoyed the salmon gravlax starter. At one point, someone at a nearby table started smoking a cigar. I asked a waiter who was not even serving our table if something could be done, and he immediately handled the situation by asking the guest to stop, as cigars are not allowed. His quick response allowed us to fully enjoy the dishes we had ordered without the smoke disturbing us. Overall, we had a wonderful experience at Café Le Marly and left extremely satisfied. ✨💌😻.
Alisha★★★★☆
The atmosphere, food and services is great! The tables on the outside are a little small. We did not reserve a table tho that might be why. All in all we had a great experience to eat next to the Louvre and we could also see the Eiffel Tower from our table. ✨✨🍽️ We had one main course per person, water, homemade Ice tea and a glass of wine. Very delicious

Le Café Marly offers a wonderful dining experience in one of the best locations in Paris. The staff are warm, welcoming, and attentive, making you feel comfortable from the moment you arrive. The view overlooking the Louvre is absolutely stunning and adds something special to the meal. The food is delicious, with every dish beautifully presented and full of flavor. Considering the location and overall experience, the prices are very reasonable. A perfect place to enjoy great food with an unforgettable view. Highly recommended!
Ashley Hanna★★★★★
This might just be my favorite meal in the entire world. As someone who is well-traveled, I don't give that honor lightly. I've gone out of my way to make a day trip into Paris from other European countries just to eat this meal: A caesar salad to start, the roasted scallops for the main course, and a crème brûlée for dessert. The food is simple, delicious, and technically flawless. 10/10
Foodie Adventurer★★★★☆
Overall, we had a fine experience. The service was good, and the staff were polite and attentive throughout our meal. One small downside was that heavy silverware was dropped onto the wooden floor several times during service. The loud clatter was quite startling and made the atmosphere feel a bit stressful at moments. The hot chocolate is every bit as good as the reviews say and was the perfect sugar boost after six hours of walking through the Louvre. A word of warning: it’s incredibly rich and decadent without being overly sweet. We shared one order, and it was the perfect amount for the two of us. As for the food, the orecchiette with Bolognese was the highlight of the meal. It was flavorful and perfectly cooked. I’d happily order it again. The Caesar salad, however, was disappointing. The meat on top looked unusual and was difficult to identify. It didn’t taste or resemble either chicken or anchovies, leaving us unsure of what we were eating and making the dish feel off. Unfortunately, it’s not something I would recommend.

Today I tried Café de Louve and it was fantastic. As a solo traveler, I was a bit nervous dining alone, but the staff greeted me warmly as soon as I arrived. I was seated right away, given time to choose from the quaint menu, and my food arrived quickly and tasted delicious. The staff were friendly and well-spoken, and the prices were amazing considering the café is so close to the Louvre. I ordered the Petit-Déj Plus (photo included), which also came with a butter croissant. Everything was fresh, tasty, and generously portioned. I’d definitely recommend this spot.

I really appreciated how friendly and welcoming the barista was, great customer service. The café itself has a clean, modern aesthetic and looks nice from the outside. Unfortunately, it wasn’t my favorite coffee shop. The seating wasn’t very comfortable, especially if you’re planning to stay for more than a few minutes, and the coffee just wasn’t to my taste. I know coffee is subjective, but the flavor profile didn’t suit my preference. Overall, it’s a nice spot for a quick stop, but I personally wouldn’t return because I value comfortable seating and enjoyed the coffee less than I had hoped.

I just wanted to have one more coffee before I went to the airport and this place was nearby. I checked reviews which were great and I can definitely agree with them. Place is quite compact and there are limited number of tables. I was bit in hurry so I decided to take away my coffee. I had pretty fruity double espresso which tasted exactly like specialty coffee should taste. It was possible to choose from several coffee beans for espresso or filter. I would definitely recommend to come here if you like speciality coffee.

We ordered Caffe Latte and Dark Latte (i.e. Mocha), and both of them were good. Dark Latte is essentially Mocha, and it’s delicious with enough chocolate flavors but not too sweet. The service is also pretty good. It’s nice to buy a cup while waiting in line to get into Louvre.

Essential Tips for Enjoying Specialty Coffee Near the Louvre

Navigating the coffee culture in Paris can be a bit different than in the Anglophone world, and knowing a few local customs will greatly enhance your experience. The pace of service, the ordering process, and even the size of the drinks can differ significantly from what you might be used to in the US, UK, or Australia. By understanding the rhythm of the Parisian café scene, you can ensure that your coffee break is a moment of pure relaxation rather than confusion. Here are the key strategies to keep in mind when hunting for your caffeine fix near the museum.

1. Adjust Your Expectations on Cup Sizes
In specialty coffee shops in Paris, you will rarely be asked if you want a "Venti" or a "Grande." Most artisan shops serve coffee in standardized sizes: an espresso is a small shot, a flat white or cappuccino typically comes in a 6 to 8-ounce cup, and a filter coffee is usually a single 10 to 12-ounce serving. This is intentional, as baristas want to preserve the correct ratio of coffee to milk. Do not expect large, milky American-style drinks; embrace the smaller, stronger, and more balanced Parisian standard.

2. Timing is Everything
The area around the Louvre operates on a distinct schedule. If you want a quiet, relaxed experience, avoid the morning rush between 8:30 AM and 10:00 AM when locals are grabbing their pre-work espresso. Similarly, lunchtime between 12:30 PM and 2:00 PM can be incredibly busy. The sweet spot for tourists is often late morning or mid-afternoon, around 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM, when you can usually find a seat and enjoy a slower pace before the evening aperitif crowd arrives.

3. Look for the Roaster
To ensure you are getting a true specialty experience, look for shops that display their roasting partners prominently. The best shops near the Louvre often feature beans from local Parisian roasters like Kawa, Substance, or Lomi, or international heavyweights like Manhattan or Friedhats. If you see a retail bag with a "roasted on" date that is within the last two to three weeks, you are in the right place. This focus on freshness is the primary indicator that the shop prioritizes quality over volume.

4. Order Like a Local
While English is widely spoken in the tourist-heavy 1st arrondissement, knowing a few terms helps. If you want a white coffee, order a "flat white" or "cappuccino." If you prefer black coffee, you can ask for a "café filtre" (batch brew) or a "V60" for a hand-brewed cup. A "noisette" is an espresso with a dash of milk—a perfect middle ground if you find a straight espresso too intense but a milky drink too heavy. Also, it is common to pay after you finish your coffee if you are sitting at a table, though many counter-service shops require payment upfront.

5. Cash or Card Etiquette
Most specialty coffee shops in Paris are fully equipped for contactless payments and credit cards, so you rarely need cash. However, if you are making a very small purchase, such as a single espresso under €3, it is polite to have a coin or a small note ready, though not strictly necessary. Tipping is not required in France as service is included in the price, but if the barista has been particularly helpful or made you a beautiful pour-over, leaving a €1 or €2 coin in the tip jar is always appreciated.

6. Water and Palate Cleansing
High-quality baristas often serve a small glass of sparkling or filtered water alongside your espresso. Do not ignore it. Drinking water before your coffee cleanses your palate, allowing you to taste the nuanced flavors of the beans—whether they are floral, fruity, or chocolatey. If you are drinking a filter coffee, taking a sip of water halfway through can help you detect how the flavor profile changes as the coffee cools. It is a small ritual that elevates the entire sensory experience.

The beauty of exploring coffee near the Louvre is that it mirrors the museum itself: it is a curated collection of masterpieces. Just as you would not rush past a Rembrandt, you should not rush through a perfectly brewed Geisha or a silky flat white. These shops represent the modern face of Parisian gastronomy, where technique and tradition meet to create something memorable.

As you plan your cultural itinerary, remember that a great cup of coffee is not just fuel; it is part of the Parisian art de vivre. Taking twenty minutes to sit in a sunlit corner with a hand-brewed single origin allows you to process the art you have just seen. It grounds you in the present moment, offering a quiet pause in a city that is constantly moving. Whether you are a seasoned coffee connoisseur or simply someone looking for a better alternative to instant hotel coffee, the streets surrounding the Louvre hold a brew worth seeking out.
