Saint-Tropez may be globally synonymous with glitzy beach clubs and celebrity yacht parties, but beneath the modern veneer of champagne spray lies a deeply rooted Provençal culinary soul. For discerning travelers and locals alike, the true magic of this coastal village is often found away from the port’s superyachts, inside dining rooms where time slows down and recipes have remained untouched for generations.
The traditional restaurants of Saint-Tropez offer a sanctuary of authenticity, focusing on the rustic flavors of the Var region. These establishments prioritize the bounty of the Mediterranean Sea and the sun-drenched produce of the Provençal countryside over trendy plating or fusion concepts. Dining here is about understanding the "terroir" and the maritime heritage that shaped this historic fishing village.
When you sit down at a classic table in Saint-Tropez, you are participating in a ritual that predates the tourism boom. You can expect dishes like soupe de poissons (fish soup with rouille and croutons), daube provençale (slow-cooked beef stew), and the iconic tarte tropézienne—a brioche filled with orange blossom cream that was reportedly named by Brigitte Bardot.
However, navigating the dining scene here can be tricky, as tourist traps often mimic the aesthetics of tradition without delivering the quality. A truly traditional restaurant is defined not by red-checkered tablecloths alone, but by a commitment to fresh, local catch, seasonal vegetables, and a respect for the slow pace of a Provençal meal. It is a place where the host treats you like a guest in their home rather than a passing customer.
To help you distinguish the genuine gems from the imitations, we have curated a list of establishments that embody the spirit of the region. These venues range from hidden backstreet bistros to harbor-side institutions, all sharing a common thread of culinary integrity.
Whether you are looking for a romantic dinner after a day on Pampelonne Beach or a long, leisurely lunch paired with a crisp local Rosé, this guide will point you in the right direction. Prepare your palate for olive oil, garlic, saffron, and the freshest seafood the Côte d’Azur has to offer.

4.5/5 stars. Made a reservation for lunch and were seated quickly. We got a seat outside with a nice view of the church. The menu was a set lunch menu with a 2 course meal (choice of appetizer or dessert plus an entree) for 27 euros, and you order from this wooden board, not a physical menu.
I got the stracciatella, tomatoes, and arugula pesto for the appetizer, and the sea bass for the main. The appetizer was refreshing, and I enjoyed the mix of herbal flavors. The seabass was tender, and I enjoyed the side of veggies, although some parts of the dish were a little too salty. I tried my husband’s dessert - the pavlova, and it was light and not too sweet. It took a little while to get the bill (as is typical in Europe), but we enjoyed the food and the view.

The menu was small but thoughtfully curated, and every dish we tried was absolutely delicious. We were lucky to get a table outside on a charming little side street, which created a cozy and authentic atmosphere. It was calm and relaxing, yet close enough to the other guests to give the restaurant a warm and lively ambiance. A wonderful dining experience that we would happily recommend.

Great midi option, good price (27 plat + entrée ou dessert) to be in saint tropez. The plat was very good but the tarte tropezienne was one day old and sec. Service not very welcoming

My husband and I took a day trip to Saint-Tropez for our honeymoon and stopped here for lunch. It was the BEST dining decision we made because it was truly one of the best meals we have ever had! I‘m still dreaming about it. Everything was incredible at absolutely reasonable prices. I wish we could have stayed in Saint-Tropez just to revisit this gem of a restaurant.

We had incredible food in St. Tropez but this might have been our favorite. A small menu typical French experience with amazing food. Cute atmosphere in the old town. 10/10

We had the best experience at this family owned restaurant! The food was amazing - our favourite was the calamari. The wife was away for the night so the owners mum stepped in - she also made the best lemon meringue tart we have ever had. Would absolutely recommend this restaurant due to both the food and service.

A lovely, elegant, genuine & authentic French meal
It’s been tough to find decent French cuisine in St Tropez . It almost doesn’t exist. Or at least not in the way anyone who has been to Paris would understand. It’s a little disappointing.
But this place, on our last night, definitely did the trick
Good food. Authentic French cooking, flavors, and ingredients.
All good. Actually, on reflection, this might be a 4+.
If you’re in St tropez, definitely go. You won’t be disappointed.

The people working here are incredibly warm, genuine, and welcoming!
The food was absolutely delicious. everything we tried was amazing: the calamari, the lamb shank, the shellfish pasta, and the dessert. The rosé wine was also fantastic.
I already want to come back for more!

This restaurant is situated in a beautiful picturesque side street/alleyway full of restaurants, slightly away from the super touristy harbor or the overpriced hotel in Saint Tropez. If I have to imagine a restaurant where the few locals (apparently they exist, because we met them) eat at, this is definitely one of those. The dishes are made with care and ingredients are fresh. I like the fish soup, where you first rub the raw garlic on the croutons, then you add cheese on top of the scrubbed garlic, then you drop it into the piping hot fish soup. It reminds me of the delicious hearty bouillabaisse I had in Marseille. I like the side rice and vegetables too.
The owner husband and wife duo are very friendly. Reservation is recommended. They speak English.

My husband and I were only in Saint-Tropez for one day and were lucky enough to get a reservation here. The servers were so incredibly kind and attentive. The food and drinks were lovely. We really enjoyed this meal! Merci Beaucoup!

Let’s start with the positive - the dinner setting is very beautiful and well decorated, with the tables surrounding the pool.
Negatives - we were walked to our table, which was missing a chair, so we waited for that to be brought over (even though we made a reservation for 3 people). We sat down and then within 5 minutes we were asked for our food order, which felt a bit rushed. Service didn’t seem friendly at all. The mains came very quickly, my fish course was okay but lacked flavour, chicken was fine. The tiramisu was so bad, as seen in another review it was like watery cream, with some cocoa powder. Lemon meringue pastry was so hard I had to ask my partner to break it for me!! We told the waitress it wasn’t very good when she asked how everything was and then replied “it’s a traditional Italian tiramisu” with no apology or understanding. As someone who has lived in Italy I can also tell you this is not the true Italian tiramisu.
- our dirty plates also laid on a tray next to us for longer than I would of liked too
- we waited for our bill for a while and got bored of waiting so went to the counter and again mentioned our dislike of the desserts to which we got a meek sorry and asked what was wrong with it which was then met with a shrug 🤷🏻♀️ they didn’t take it off the bill or apologise much.
Such a shame as we came last year and the food was excellent so we made sure to visit again this year but sadly will not be returning!
Julie Hockton★☆☆☆☆
We were on time for our dinner reservation. We order an aperitif, which was fine, than sat for 45 minutes and no one came back to check on us or asked if we were ready to order even though our menus were clearly on the table in front of us. So we asked for the check, which was politely given to us, no one asked why we weren’t having dinner, and we left and ate at Gourdi and had an amazing meal. We are living in Antibes at the moment and have been to St. Tropez before and have never been treated so dismissively.

Great local spot, approved by our hotel concierge. It was a perfect last meal in St Tropez for us. Definitely need to order the mussels entree with a bottle of rose of course. For our mains we shared the truffle gnocchi (YUM) and the grilled calamari. The calamari was just okay, a little dry but the ratatouille served with it was delicious. Overall an affordable, authentic, and delicious meal with a great atmosphere!

A lovely warm and welcoming family run restaurant. The food is authentic italian and delicious! We will definitely be back. Make sure you book in high season. Highly recommend.

Came here twice because it was just that good! The homemade pastas are exceptional — we tried both the truffle and the pesto with stracciatella, and while both were mouth-watering, the truffle one was simply unforgettable. The salmon tartare was generous and delicious. They do a homemade lemon meringue pie, light, fluffy, and delicate, a real surprise! Beyond the food, the service was just as memorable: the waitresses were all smiley, bubbly, and genuinely kind, something rare these days. And to top it all off, the prices were very reasonable, which feels almost unheard of for Saint-Tropez. Truly a 5-star quality/price/service!

This place is a gem !
It's tucked away from the crowds dining at the waterfront .
Simple decor and amazing food !
The mussels were sublime and the other two salads we had to share were excellent as well.
Service was great and the champagne was chilled !
We loved it and will definitely recommend it and hope to come back again on another visit to Europe.

We reserved online the same day for dinner. The staff was very friendly and all dishes were of the highest quality. The gnocchi with truffles were one of the best I've ever had in my life. Hanna Rothenstein★★☆☆☆
The restaurant is tucked away on a charming little street, and we were served quickly thanks to an early arrival. For a starter, we ordered the foie gras, a disappointing portion that felt more like an afterthought accompanied by a few spinach leaves and some grated carrot that looked like it had been picked up from carrefour express. All of this for €36.
The main course risotto was decent truffle risitto but it had weirdly some gravy on top which didnt do anything to the flavour. But what really left a sour taste was the overall lack of hospitality for the prices being charged. We received a single piece of bread, no olive oil, no butter, and when it came time to pay, the waiter’s only words were to point out that service was not included (it said in the menu that service charge was included), which felt less like standard practice and more like a prompt to tip generously for an experience that frankly hadn’t earned it.
Benjamin Hammer★★★★☆
Dinner at Caprice des Deux was overall enjoyable. The staff was very friendly, and the food was good. The food, however, did come out incredibly fast…so fast that I felt rushed. (The menu was small, so I’m sure it’s easier to fire.). Additionally, being mostly in a small street, several times there were people trying to sell things, and the staff didn’t try to have them not bother the patrons.
The food itself was quite good. I had the filet of beef with truffles and the peach Melba for dessert.

Lovely wine bar away from the crowds with wonderful food, wine, and staff. We especially enjoyed the mussels and tomatoes with burrata along with their white wine by the glass. From the cutlery to the cups and plates we could tell everything was designed and picked out with intention. Prices were fair compared to other restaurants along the pier but the quality was above and beyond.

I arrived at the restaurant at 13:45 and ordered a three course meal. I had really high expectations of this place but was left disappointed. The waitron kept rushing me through the meal - I couldn’t take a single bite without her coming to ask me if I was finished. She also started packing up while I was eating. Sure, I understand that the last sitting in restaurants across France is 14:30 but if you know you won’t be able to serve patrons or your service will be sub-par then don’t allow sittings after 13:00.
The burrata was subpar and so was the pasta. The pasta was said to come with a special sauce but really it was chunk of burrata on top. I wouldn’t recommend!

Lunch is buffet-style, and you can come casually dressed, sit on the gorgeous terrace, and enjoy truly unbelievable food while surrounded by stunning scenery.

This is clearly the most generous brunch I’ve ever experienced. But above that, it was the most beautiful and the most relaxing.
Not expensive considering the selection. It was like my favourite restaurant, except without the wait. Unlimited snow crabs, lobsters, ribeyes, and then the desserts… Twenty plus creations, delicious for both eyes and tastes. And no wait! This is my kind of fast food.

Thjs is a local restaurant in the heart of Saint-Tropez, overlooking the water and harbor. It's mostly tourists who go here so it can be busy in high season. The food is ok but not great, it lacks flavor and passion. Go for a light snack and a glass of wine if your wanting to be near a really nice area.

After spending the last few weeks in the area, we had unfortunately experienced many overpriced restaurants with rather disappointing food. This place was such a wonderful surprise!
We came here for lunch and were lucky enough to get a table without a reservation, which made the experience even better. Every dish we ordered was absolutely delicious, full of flavor, and clearly prepared with great care. The service was outstanding as well. The staff was friendly, attentive and fast, even though the restaurant was very busy.
As I am highly pregnant we also really appreciated that they offer non-alcoholic alternative drinks, which is surprisingly rare in this area.
What impressed us the most was the excellent value for money. Considering the location, the quality of the food, and the fact that this is Saint-Tropez, the prices are more than fair.
We highly recommend this restaurant and will definitely be back.

My dad took the 1969 photo while we were on holiday in St Tropez in 1969. Both restaurants are still there today!
The food was great and the service and atmosphere were excellent as you’d expect. It’s not cheap, but the starters are recommended as ‘for sharing’ and there are main courses that don’t break the bank. The desserts looked amazing, but we didn’t have one.

The service was super super nice.. Thank you Nicolas
- The Pallea was average.. Needed seasoning.
- Grilled Sardines was very good

Review to Management
We were really looking forward to our family meal at La Petite Plage after having such a good experience at NOTO next door. Unfortunately, our evening was completely spoiled by the service we received from our waitress, Charlotte.
From the moment we sat down, the attitude we experienced was extremely disappointing. Charlotte asked if we wanted the wine list, and I simply asked if we could have some water. From that moment onwards, the service felt completely different.
It took around 30 minutes to order our starters, followed by another 30 minutes before we could order our main courses. By the time we were ready to order dessert, another hour had passed and unfortunately it was then too late.
This was supposed to be a lovely family evening, but the poor service and attitude made the whole experience extremely frustrating and disappointing.
I am addressing this directly to management because I genuinely believe that this level of service needs to be taken seriously. One member of staff can have a huge impact on a customer’s experience and, ultimately, on a restaurant’s reputation.
We had a completely different and very positive experience at NOTO next door, where both the food and the staff were excellent. Based on our experience, I would recommend trying NOTO instead.
I hope management takes this feedback on board and looks into what happened, because we certainly won’t forget how our evening at La Petite Plage was handled.

A noticeably excellent choice in St Tropez
Especially when others at the harbor front are well below standard & overly expensive.
The feta salad to start was amazing & the filet of beef with gnocchi cheese & walnuts was also very good
So was the strawberry cocktail for that matter
Lively room open to the front. Sand floor. Really nice decor
Classy & elegant with great service

The food selection is not the regular but nice fusion touches adds to it. Service is average. The avocado with crab is so good. The main we tried the kufta and lamb chops and it was fine.
Atmosphere is nice especially late in the night when it turn like a club with loud music and party vibes.

A Cozy Culinary Escape
From the moment you step inside, this place feels like a warm hug. Soft lighting, thoughtful details, and a relaxed, intimate vibe make it the perfect spot to unwind. Whether you’re tucked into a corner with a glass of wine or laughing over plates with friends, the atmosphere invites you to stay a while.
And the food? Absolutely incredible. Every dish is made with care — rich in flavor, beautifully presented, and just the kind of comfort food you crave but rarely find done this well. From the first bite to the last, everything was chef’s kiss.
A true hidden gem that feels like home, but tastes like something out of a dream. Can’t wait to go back.

The place looked amazing but… sorry… one of the most rude service ever! We asked for some water and no idea how many times we were if ignored. The waiter I believe she woke up with her left foot. With such attitude people should not got I work. The food was good but really… service killed all of the experience. At the end we said who is paying what. The lady was unable to calculate and add our orders and all the time was telling we don’t wanna pay for something. We were waiting 10 minutes or more that she was able to add all things… we were 6 people and really… we just took a main dish… I will never go back there again!

Le Petit Pointu in Saint-Tropez delivers Provençal charm with a warm terrace, attentive service, and delicious seafood. My favourite was the Thai style prawn wok! It's great for a relaxed dinner and soaking in Saint-Tropez's old-town vibe, with a solid wine list to pair with the meals.

I’ve been dining at this charming little restaurant for years, and it never disappoints. Today’s meal was no exception—everything was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully prepared.
The menu features Mediterranean cuisine with subtle Asian influences, showcasing high-quality ingredients and delightful flavor combinations. A wonderful spot that consistently delivers a memorable dining experience.

A really chill restaurant in Saint-Tropez. Unusually it’s open in between 14-19 o’clock, so perfect for eating in between this time. The staff was really sweet and friendly and the ambience also really cool in ocean atmosphere 😀
The only small negative point were the kind of expensive prices, but I thinks it’s just normal in Saint-Tropez.

We ordered the ricotta and truffle ravioli, octopus bolognese, and fish & chips. Everything was absolutely delicious. The staff were incredibly friendly and created such a positive vibe. Highly recommended!

Le Petit Pointu is a charming seafood spot in St-Tropez with a lot going for it. The location is excellent, nestled conveniently near the heart of town, making it easy to find and a great choice for a meal after exploring the area.
The food is delicious. The menu offers a delightful variety of fresh fish and seafood, all expertly prepared.
However, the service could be improved. During my visit, there was only one server handling all the tables, which made things a bit slow. While the server was friendly and did his best, the pace of service was noticeably delayed.
Overall, if you're in no rush and looking for good seafood at a fair price, Le Petit Pointu is worth a visit.

We dined at Bou on our first evening in St. Tropez, and it was exceptional. The service struck the perfect balance—attentive and present whenever needed, yet entirely unobtrusive. The restaurant features lovely outdoor seating with a wonderful ambiance, complemented by an excellent wine selection. Authentic and high-quality, this is definitely not a tourist trap. As for the cuisine, the food was spectacular; the bluefin tuna, lamb chops, fillet, and kofte were all perfectly cooked and beautifully seasoned. I highly recommend Bou to anyone seeking a memorable, romantic evening.

Fantastic experience for our party of 7 at BOU. Great quality meats and sides for a reasonable price for the waterfront of St Tropez, but more importantly warm, friendly and personalised service for our large group, particularly from the lovely Manon, would definitely be back!

We had a wonderful experience here. The food and service were excellent, and the sea bass was one of the best I’ve ever had, perfectly cooked and incredibly fresh. The location is stunning, and watching the beautiful sunset while having dinner made the evening even more special. Highly recommended if you’re looking for great food, warm hospitality, and an unforgettable setting!

I come to Saint Tropez a lot and highly recommend due to the location with a great view of the port and sea. a diverse and interesting menu, but the highlight is the helpful and friendly service, very accommodating and a special mention to leia who always has the most friendly and professional service with a smile
How to Choose the Right Traditional Restaurant
Selecting the perfect spot in Saint-Tropez requires a bit of strategy, especially during the high season when demand is high and quality can vary. While the restaurants listed above have proven their worth, knowing how to vet a menu or a dining room will ensure you have the best possible experience. A little local knowledge goes a long way in distinguishing a memorable meal from a mediocre one.
- Look for "Cuisine du Marché": This phrase indicates that the chef prepares the menu based on what was available at the local market that morning. It is a hallmark of traditional French cooking and guarantees that your ingredients are seasonal and fresh, rather than frozen or imported.
- Check the Catch of the Day: Since Saint-Tropez is a fishing village, traditional restaurants should offer whole fish or "poisson du jour." Ask how the fish is prepared; if the server struggles to describe the local species like loup de mer (sea bass) or rouget (red mullet), you might be in a tourist trap.
- Prioritize Provençal Wines: A true local establishment will have a wine list dominated by Côtes de Provence, particularly the crisp, dry Rosés that define the region. If the list is filled exclusively with international heavyweights and ignores local vineyards, the restaurant may not be focused on regional pairing.
- Embrace the Leisurely Pace: Traditional French dining is not fast food. Service is intended to be relaxed and unhurried. Do not expect the check to arrive immediately after your plate is cleared; lingering over coffee or a digestif is part of the culture.
- Reserve Ahead, Especially in Summer: Even the most hidden traditional bistros fill up quickly in July and August. If you are visiting during peak season, call or email a few days in advance. This ensures you get a table and allows the kitchen to prepare for your arrival.
The beauty of dining traditionally in Saint-Tropez lies in the contrast it provides to the town’s high-energy reputation. It is a chance to step away from the paparazzi and the nightclubs and connect with the slower, more sensual rhythm of the French Riviera.
Ultimately, a meal here is more than just sustenance; it is a cultural immersion. By choosing one of these authentic establishments, you are supporting the local families and fishermen who keep the true spirit of Saint-Tropez alive for future generations.
