Menton, the pastel-hued jewel of the French Riviera, is often celebrated for its lemons, its gardens, and its uniquely mild microclimate. Yet, just steps from the Italian border, a quiet culinary revolution has been simmering. Here, the glitz of Monaco gives way to a more authentic, sun-drenched dining scene where Provençal traditions meet Ligurian flair.
For too long, visitors treated this border town as a day-trip destination, snapping photos of the old port before retreating to Nice. However, those who linger into the evening discover a gastronomic landscape that punches well above its weight class. From Michelin-starred tasting menus to rustic beachside grills, Menton offers a depth of flavor that defies its small size.
The unique geography of Menton dictates its menu. The steep terraced hillsides provide the town with its famous citrus, while the Mediterranean supplies the kitchens with rockfish, sea bream, and anchovies. This is a cuisine defined not by heavy creams or rich butter, but by olive oil, fresh herbs, and the bright acidity of locally grown lemons.
Dining in Menton is often a game of two halves: the historic Old Town, with its vaulted passages and hidden squares, and the seafront, where terraces offer panoramic views of the Baie du Soleil. Knowing where to sit and what to order is the key to unlocking the best the city has to offer.
Whether you are seeking a romantic dinner under the stars, a quick bite of socca, or a long, lazy lunch overlooking the harbor, the options are varied and exciting. The influence of nearby Italy is undeniable, resulting in a hybrid cuisine that is neither strictly French nor Italian, but distinctly Mentonnais.
To help you navigate this vibrant food scene, we have curated a list of establishments that represent the very best of the city. These are places where the ingredients are respected, the service is warm, and the views are unforgettable.

Such a lucky find in Menton! If youβre tired of the usual tourist traps, go to Mont GoΓ»t. The food tastes so fresh, you can tell itβs all homemade.
The best part, though, was the host. He was incredibly sweet and didn't blink when I asked about animal-free options; he just put together a vegan version of the Lebanese platter for me on the spot. It was so delicious and filling. I really appreciate it when a place actually puts effort into dietary requests instead of just offering a side salad.
Super warm vibes and great prices, definitely check them out. I will be back for sure!

In a town with plenty of good Italian restaurants this Lebanese restaurant is a welcome change. The chef/owner is a gracious host serving excellent food. The food is freshly prepared, with the amount of walk in people buying take aways plus the full tables in the small seating area there is a need to prepare the foods regularly.
There were two of us, at the chef's suggestion we shared a Lebanese platter, and a viande (meat) plat du jour. Each item was delicious, and there were many delicious choices between the two mains. The bottle of rosΓ© was perfectly chilled, served in quality wine glasses.
A large tour group of youngsters on a daily stipend arrived while we were eating. Our host helped explain the choices, the vegan and other options that were requested. The group all left happy with their meals.
I enjoyed every morsel I ate. The food was sublime, filling but not heavy. My wife and I left very satisfied.
The host is a great man serving good food at a very reasonable price.

What a great place - little bus ride from Menton (but beautiful moonlit walk back along the promenade).
Small menu - but then you know its done right - wife had lamb rack with truffle pasta with pomegranite - she loved it!! I had the Angus entrecote cooked to perfection served on a warm plate (tres importante) with some great frites (maybe too many) and a local herb sauce - was brilliant.
You have to try the lemon tiramasu - just glorious and of course the standard cognac and double espresso.
The steak and lamb a little expensive but well worth the spoil.
Hugely friendly and efficient serveuse who topped the evening with a smile.

LβOrangerie was a wonderful surprise in Menton. From the moment we arrived, we received a warm, professional, and genuinely attentive welcome.
Every dish fully lived up to our expectations, not only because of the quality and freshness of the ingredients, but especially because of the chefβs precision and excellent execution. The combination of Mediterranean cuisine with subtle Japanese influences brings personality and balance to each dish while always allowing the ingredients to shine.
After our experience, we completely understand the recognition from the Michelin Guide. The quality of the ingredients, precise cooking, flavors, and attention to detail can truly be appreciated in every dish.
Excellent cuisine, outstanding service, and a very pleasant atmosphere. Without a doubt, one of the best dining options in Menton and a restaurant we would definitely return to.

We had the β¬39 set menu for dinner. The food was not exceptional, but the quality was good given the price.
For starters, the red pepper mousse was flavorful, but a little too firm and not quite cold enough for my liking. Given the weather these days, I think it would have been more refreshing if it had been served cooler. The gazpacho was also well-balanced and fresh.
For the main courses, we ordered the salmon tataki. We wonβt compare it with the salmon tataki weβve had in Japan, but the salmon itself was good quality, with a nice balance of fatty richness and firm texture. The portion was generous, and the salmon was seared perfectly, with the interior remaining raw. The rice underneath, however, was not as chewy and fluffy as we would have liked, and the sauce was a little bland. The acidity of the pickled vegetables was great for cutting through the richness of the salmon, although it could be a little overpowering.
The pork was also cooked perfectly, and the fattier parts of the cut complemented the texture nicely. The sauce and vegetables were reasonable, although nothing particularly memorable.
The parfait was a little disappointing. It was a good combination of seasonal fruits, but nonetheless felt like not much work had gone into the dessert. The chocolate terrine, on the other hand, was rich and silky.
We would also like to mention that only two pieces of bread are served with the meal at a time, with more provided upon request. We felt that the portion was a little insufficient and, to be honest, somewhat ungenerous.
Service was okay. The servers were generally polite and did what they needed to do, but nothing more. We passed by the restaurant another day towards the end of service and stopped to look at the menu. The server who had previously served us happened to be there, but did not respond when we said, βHave a good evening.β It gave us the impression that, as long as you are a client, they will do their job, but there is little warmth or attentiveness beyond that.
The atmosphere, however, was pleasant, with an occasional breeze that made the outdoor seating enjoyable. A nearby restaurant had live music playing, which added nicely to the experience. When making the reservation, we were given the option of sitting indoors, outdoors under the tent, or outdoors without the tent. We would recommend sitting outside when the weather is good, as it really complements the dining experience.

Was in Paris for some Parisian Pride and Lyon Bouchon before Nice, dropping by in Menton for a lunch and I must rate this is the best pairing we ever had throughout the journey, the flavour and taste turns out as one of the best experience, we had white asparagus and seafood sashimi as starter, Salmon Tataki for both my daughter while I had Tuna and wife having Veal Tenderloin to perfection. Dessert was an absolute completion tocthe courseβ¦

We tried Entree II last week on a holiday in Menton. We were both pleasantly impressed. The food was top quality and the presentation was really good. The lady serving us was very nice and helpful. A fantastic spot for classic French cuisine. The duck magret (duck breast) in sauce was simply magnificentβan absolute standout. The starters and the egg dishes were decent, but the duck really stole the show. They also have a very solid wine list featuring an excellent selection of Natural Wines.
The service was wonderful, and our waiter was an absolute super guy who made the whole experience even better. Everything was just great. Incredibly delicious and easily the best restaurant I visited in Menton. I highly recommend it!

Overall, a pleasant experience . The service was excellentβour waiter was absolutely wonderful, friendly, and attentive. As for the food, the duck breast was really good and well-cooked, while the egg starter was simple and classic. The only minor downside was the sauce and the french fries, which weren't quite to our taste. Still a very nice dinner overall, largely thanks to the great staff!

This place was amazing. I was there before 12'o clock but they allowed us to take a seat first during waiting and take a look at the menu first. Foie gras was so soft and delicate that I didn't want to have them even with baguette. They recommended beautiful duck breast and wine also, perfectly well paired. It was my last meal in France this time and I don't have any regret about my choiceπΈ

We came expecting a sea view after a friend requested one, only to realise the restaurant doesnβt actually overlook the sea! Instead of brushing it off, the waiters completely ran with the joke and kept the light-hearted humour going all evening, which we absolutely loved.

Unfortunately, our experience at this restaurant was very disappointing.
My friend and I ordered one large pasta to share along with a drink each. The waiter accepted our order without mentioning any issue. A few minutes later, a woman came out of the kitchen and aggressively insisted that we had to order two separate dishes. Since nobody seemed to speak English, communication was difficult and involved a lot of hand gestures rather than a clear explanation of their policy. If ordering only one dish was not allowed, the waiter should have informed us before accepting the order.
What made the situation even more uncomfortable was that members of the staff stood by our table and waited until we ordered another dish. We felt pressured rather than welcomed.
The food itself was okay, but nothing exceptional. Unfortunately, the unpleasant treatment from the staff overshadowed the entire meal, making it difficult to enjoy the food. Throughout our visit, we felt as though we were being looked down upon and that our presence was somehow an inconvenience.
Good service can make an average meal enjoyable, but poor service can ruin it completely. Sadly, that was the case here.

totally not recommend this restaurant. The service was terrible, they were ripping off tourists, the food was mediocre, and the ambiance was just average. During our 15-day trip to the South of France, we ate at 20 restaurants, and this was the most expensive and worst experience we had. We didn't want to give a bad review; every business is struggling. But given how rude they were, we had to tell the truth. We chose this restaurant because other restaurants were crowded at lunchtime, while this one was less packed, and the Google rating seemed acceptable. Upon entering, we were the only customers seated indoors. Our group of seven was crammed into three small tables, which was extremely cramped. We asked for an extra table, but were refused. After we sat down, the waiter (pictured in photo 2) was very impatient, constantly rushing us and pressuring us to order. We wanted salad, but it wasn't on the menu. He offered to make us two small vegan mixed salads, but when we paid the bill, we found that each salad cost β¬23. At other restaurants, it would have cost less than β¬10. We ordered a cappuccino, but the bill listed it as a beef carpaccio. When we disputed the bill, the staff immediately admitted it was a mistake. However, his expression and attitude clearly indicated he was lying, trying to get away with it since we were tourists. At the end, they even gave us their shop's QR code, asking us to leave a 5-star review. We don't want to give any bad reviews, but after eating at 20 restaurants, this one clearly had a problematic attitude, and our experience was terrible. We don't recommend eating at this restaurant.

Actually went here because this is probably the only place in Menton that accepts Cheques Vacances Connect. But I didnβt regret coming.
Foods were so fresh. Staffs were friendly even though the restaurant was packed.
They let me dine in by myself. Which is sometimes rare if the restaurant is full. Thanks will come back.

Lady boss was so sweet and hospitable to all the customers. It's my first time in Menton and the pinsa jambon was very delicious. The cheeseburger that the girls at the next table ordered was also a good-sized portion. Overall it was a lovely dining experience and I highly recommend it. Thank you for being absolutely lovely πΉ

The place is not fancy and does not have a large menu but they surprised us with the quality of the food and friendly service. The chicken ceaser salad my wife had was great and so was their pizza.

What can I sayβ¦ it was absolutely refreshing to eat at a place that has amazing service !! The hostess was so sweet and energetic with us. It really felt like weβve locals here !! The pizza was as good as the service.
Small details matter: She noticed that my unopened coke was sitting in the heat for too long so she came over and switched it up for me with a nice cold one without me asking ! Love it !

Well well wellβ¦ I must say I have eaten in a lot of restaurants, but this must be talked about. We just came across this restaurant without a booking and they were very amenable to get us a table. The reason I chose this restaurant was because I noticed that everyoneβs food looked fantastic. I must say that EVERYTHING that came out of the kitchen looked fantastic, and the taste was perfect. These guys certainly know their stuff.. Small Menu meaning they can produce great food every time. The staff were absolutely first class. This restaurant was in a side street in Menton but I understand they have a larger one near the port. I cannot rate this highly enough. Definitely worth a tryβ¦. Thank you for my perfect meal x

I visited Lβeventail Menton on the 6th August 2026 for dinner with a friend . We felt very welcomed and I have a little dog . They were dog friendly and the service was quick and everyone smiley with good energy.
For a started we shared the printemps de rouleux and then we had a pad Thai each. They have all the vegetarian options so I have the tofu pad Thai and my friend has the chicken pad Thai. Portion sizes are very filling and we both polished off the plates. Definitely recommend to anyone staying in Menton. We went to the restaurant in the little side street in town, apparently they have the same restaurant on the beachfront so I will try this out another time for sure .

The fried chicken salad was incredibly good! Somehow, the batter was still very crispy even after being mixed in with the salad greens, veggies, and dressing. And each piece of fried chicken was cooked perfectly. Loved it!

Friendly staff, exceptional service, and outstanding food. One of the best Asian fusion restaurants weβve visited, with creative and innovative dishes that are full of flavor. Everything was beautifully presented and expertly prepared. Highly recommended!
Tips for Dining in Menton
To make the most of your culinary journey in this border town, a little local knowledge goes a long way. The dining culture here is distinct, blending the leisurely pace of the French Riviera with the casual elegance of the Italian coast. Here are some essential tips to ensure your meals are as smooth as the local olive oil.
1. Understand the "Menton Miracle"
Menton is known for its microclimate, which is warmer than the rest of the CΓ΄te d’Azur. This means that outdoor dining is often viable well into October and begins early in March. However, this also means that prime terrace tables at the best restaurants get very hot in the peak summer sun. Always book a table in the shade for lunch, or opt for a later dinner starting at 8:30 PM when the heat has broken.
2. Embrace the Lemon
It is impossible to talk about Menton without mentioning the lemon. The Menton lemon is sweeter and less acidic than standard varieties, and it appears in savory dishes, not just desserts. Be adventurous and order the lemon risotto, lemon-infused seafood pasta, or even a lemon-based sauce with your fish. It is the defining flavor of the region and a true marker of local authenticity.
3. Reserve Ahead for the Old Town
The Vieille Ville (Old Town) is a labyrinth of steep, narrow staircases and pedestrian-only lanes. While this is incredibly charming, it means the restaurants here are physically small. Tables are at a premium, especially on weekends when tourists from Italy and Monaco drive over for dinner. A last-minute walk-in is often a recipe for disappointment; a quick phone call or online booking the day before is essential.
4. Watch the Service Hours
Like much of France, Menton observes strict meal times. Lunch is typically served from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM, and kitchens close promptly. If you arrive at 2:30 PM looking for a full meal, you will likely be turned away. Dinner service generally starts no earlier than 7:30 PM. If you are hungry in the "off hours," head to a café near the market for a croissant or a slice of pissaladière to tide you over.
5. Cross the Border Mentality
Because you are so close to Italy, the standard for pizza, pasta, and espresso is exceptionally high. Donβt assume you must eat strictly French food to eat well. Some of the best meals in Menton are served in establishments that lean heavily into their Ligurian heritage. Look for menus featuring "Pasta Fresca" or "Fritto Misto" to experience the true cross-cultural nature of the city.
6. Explore the Covered Market
Before you commit to a restaurant for dinner, take a stroll through the MarchΓ© des Halles. This covered market is the beating heart of Mentonβs food scene. Seeing what the local fishermen and farmers are selling that morning will give you a great indicator of what is freshest on the menus that evening. It is also the perfect place to buy edible souvenirs, such as lemon olive oil or candied citrus.
Dining in Menton is an exercise in slowing down. It is about watching the light change over the old port, savoring the salinity of the sea air, and appreciating the fusion of two great culinary cultures. Whether you opt for a high-end gastronomic experience or a simple plate of pasta by the beach, the memory of the flavors will linger long after you have left the bay.
So pull up a chair, order a glass of chilled RosΓ© de Provence or a crisp Italian Vermentino, and let the unique rhythm of Menton dictate your meal. You will quickly find that the food here is just as colorful and vibrant as the town itself.
