12 Best Halal Restaurants in Honfleur

Honfleur’s cobbled lanes, timber-framed facades, and shimmering Vieux Bassin make it one of Normandy’s most enchanting destinations. For Muslim travelers and lovers of diverse cuisine, the town also holds a quieter but equally appealing secret: a growing selection of halal-friendly dining. Whether you crave North African tagines, Lebanese mezze, or classic French burgers made with halal meat, Honfleur offers more variety than its postcard-sized center might suggest.

Finding truly halal food in a historic French port can require a bit of local knowledge. Many restaurants serve alcohol or do not use certified halal meat, so it pays to know where to look before your stomach starts rumbling. The good news is that several welcoming spots have built loyal followings among locals and visitors seeking authentic flavors without compromising their dietary values.

This guide focuses on establishments that either use halal-certified meat or serve fully vegetarian and seafood menus that are naturally alcohol-free in preparation. While Honfleur’s seafood is legendary, sometimes you simply want a grilled chicken plate or a slow-cooked lamb couscous after a day of sightseeing. The restaurants below offer that comfort, along with warm Norman hospitality.

We have prioritized places with clear communication about their sourcing, consistent customer feedback, and a reputation for clean, high-quality cooking. Always call ahead to confirm current halal certification, as suppliers and menus can change seasonally. A quick phone call in French or English can save you time and ensure the kitchen meets your expectations.

Some of these addresses sit slightly outside the old town, where parking is easier and the dining room feels more local. Others place you right in the middle of the harbor’s golden-hour glow. In every case, you can expect generous portions, fair prices, and a genuine welcome.

Without further delay, here are the best halal and halal-friendly restaurants in Honfleur for your next trip.

So glad and happy to be there. The waitress was so kind and smiling, and the food was excellent. I’m really happy and excited for the next time.
Paola Casasbuenas★★★★★
When you visit a little fishing town like this, you have to get the mussels and fries! My husband got the Camembert version and absolutely loved it, while I went with the classic version. They were both delicious. The waitress was super cool and funny, and the place offers a lovely view of the town.

We were there twice as it was the first place with hot vegan main dish available in Normandy and local specialty. Recommended at Happy Cow And I did not have the power to look for something else the second time as was very tired after many hours of sightseeing. I had the vegan galettes. It was ok and I was grateful to get anything hot on Normandy. Could have been a bit better spiced. For the second time I had my nooch with me to enhance a bit the taste. The 2nd time they served me the Normand one with cheese but I knew something is wrong (the color- it should be reddish and not beige) and send it back. They apologized and after a while I got the vegan one. No discount as far as I can tell. My friend had “normal” food and was satisfied. However he is not picky. I am anyway grateful I found something vegan in this very vegan-unfriendly area.

The quay-side location is perfect. You couldn’t ask for better atmosphere. The wait staff was very friendly and spoke English well. We had two of the best classic cheeseburgers ever!! We are two new fans!!!

We stopped there for lunch and had fabulous food and ambience along the vieux basin. Staff (Nora and Virginia) were fantastic and welcoming . A couple ducks to keep us company as well. Will come back in may 2027

We visited Namaste India in Inharve, France around 9 PM, and it turned out to be one of the best dining experiences of our trip. The food was absolutely amazing—truly as authentic and delicious as you would expect from top-quality Indian cuisine. The service was excellent, and what really stood out was the warmth of the owner. He was incredibly friendly and thoughtful—when we mentioned we had a 2+ hour drive ahead of us, he kindly offered us fresh, hot chai, which was such a nice and memorable touch. Overall, a fantastic experience with delicious food, great service, and genuine hospitality. Highly recommend!

My friend and I had lunch at Namasty India during a heatwave. Our paratha was delicious, my dal tarka was superb - perfect spicing - and my friend was delighted with her "perfect" chicken tikka masala. Service was friendly and efficient, and we took a take-away for later! Highly recommended.
Sarah Singh★★★★★
Had a great experience at this Indian restaurant! I ordered the lamb madras with garlic naan, and the lamb was incredibly soft and full of flavor. I also tried a cocktail and a coconut lassi—both were really delicious and complemented the meal perfectly. The service was excellent as well, very attentive and friendly throughout. Definitely a place I would recommend!

If you are traveling through Le Havre and looking for an authentic Indian meal, this spot is a fantastic find. After making the trip up from Bilbao, I was pleasantly surprised by both the hospitality and the quality of the dishes. The Highlights: Lamb Curry: This was the standout of the meal. It packs a punch, so if you are sensitive to heat, you might want to ask for it to be prepared mild. For those who love spice, it is spot on. Rice: It is rare to find rice this well-executed—incredibly soft with perfectly separated grains. Dessert: Do not skip the Gajarka Haluwa; it was absolutely excellent and the perfect way to end the meal. The Experience: The hospitality was warm and welcoming. Additionally, for those driving, the restaurant is very convenient as finding parking nearby was a breeze. Note: The Cheese Naan was standard, providing a reliable accompaniment to the curry. Verdict: Whether you are a local or just passing through like I was, this is a highly recommended stop for anyone craving genuine Indian flavors.

Close to Normandy and a town to die for. Prettiest gem of France 🇫🇷 and typical village style beaches with amazing food options. We tried this restaurant and was roadside seating outdoors and indoors. Excellent seafood heaven. Loved every bite and enjoyed the every second of amazing location in center of the village. Strongly recommended the town and restaurant.

Well located near the harbour, this spacious restaurant serves local dishes that are pretty tasty and good 👌 they also have high chairs to accommodate for families with little ones 👍 and for those who want to lunch early, they can serve the food before noon which is convenient when you have kids!

Nice brasserie style food. Their classic burger for 13.50 was very tasty! Also their formule with 19.00 for 2 courses was good also. The poke bowl was nice and the piece of meat was nice too! The service was so and so as the one waiter started to speak Spanish to me and because i couldn't understand (as i speak Greek and French) I asked her politely to speak French to me. Later she was ignoring me and stopped talking to me! The other waitress instead was friendly and helpful! Overall, nice food at good prices in a touristy place like Honfleur!

We had a lovely experience at L’Alcyone in Honfleur! The staff were very welcoming and the atmosphere was warm and cozy, with both indoor and outdoor seating available. We tried “Le Clacos” – a baked Camembert served with potatoes and charcuterie – and it was absolutely delicious. The portion was generous and it was totally worth it. We also had the mijoté de veau au cidre, which was flavorful. For dessert, we went with the brioche façon pain perdu and the tartelette aux pommes – both were sweet and satisfying. Highly recommended if you’re in Honfleur and looking for a delicious and authentic experience!
Rian Gonzales★★★★★
Our b&b host recommend L'Alcyone as one of the best casual restaurants Honfleur has to offer so we took the bite and went for it. I'm happy it was well worth the rave as we've only had the best possible service during dinner. Despite the place buzzling with people even at 9pm, we were able to be seated outside with our 3 dogs (we were a group of 6). Our server offered a bowl of water for the dogs right away and he was very accommodating and nice. I knew mussels were a bit off season so i was not expecting them to be their usual size. Despite the smaller size, the mussels we were served were fresh and was flavorful. It was cooked just right and the servings were hefty. The Poulette version was hands down my favorite. The Camembert one was good but i felt it was too overpowering and can be a bit too overwhelming after a while to my taste The star of the show was definitely the Honfleur Stew! 💖 It had just the right amount of broth and flavor from the seafood and you are served with bread on the side to soak the soup with. I was overall happy with my experience in this restaurant and it definitely lived up to its glowing reviews! 💖

A magical time with an artist, full of love and passion. One of our best culinary experiences in a very unexpected place. We paid 150€ for 2 and we'll be back for another of Leandro's menu some day. PS: Not a vegetarian friendly experience, it's meat or nothing.

A wonderful dining experience!! Plan ahead and make your reservation a day in advance for one of the best meals of your life. The cook and proprietor- Leo - ensured we had the most amazing dining experience. The ingredients (breads, meats cheeses, wines, etc.) are all thoughtfully chosen and grown/made in the region / close to the restaurant. Do yourself a favor and escape Honfleur’s busy downtown for a unique and delicious meal situated in a beautiful garden that’s also in the shadow of a trampoline park, which only adds interest and whimsy to the experience. Leo will be happy to recommend wines to pair with your meal — take his advice! He’s a pro and his choices helped elevate our meal. Easily my best meal in Honfleur.
Stephanie Wicks Thomas★★★★★
We live in the area, but last night was the first time we had tried this place. We went with 2 of our adult sons. The food was excellent and the portions are generous. We especially liked the pork with a smoked cream sauce. The service was also very good, friendly and knowledgeable. We will certainly go back!

There are few places in life where you truly experience another persons passion, culture, and craft. If you’re looking for an authentic, well defined, distinguished experience, then look no further. With compassionate attention to your individual experience, the owner/master chef, enables you to fully appreciate each particularly crafted course. (Hint: ask for their pairing for wines). If you’re looking for a unique, awe inspiring sensational food experience, then this is your hidden gem.

Lovely dinner here tonight, sat out in the sunshine on the outdoor tables. The host was very friendly and keen to help, and the food options were varied and interesting. 2 great vegetarian options (out of 5 total options!) so definitely vegetarian friendly. The meals were full of vegetables, tasted fresh and were made using seasonal ingredients. Drinks and desserts were tasty and local too! Highly recommend this little gem ☺️

A wonderful experience in the heart of Honfleur Restaurant Sauvage is a true gem – beautiful setting, friendly staff, and excellent food. We enjoyed a perfectly cooked main course, a light and tasty poke bowl, and delicious desserts. We were especially impressed by the Duo cerise estragon – an original and beautifully balanced dessert that’s a treat for both the taste buds and the eyes. A lovely surprise was the homemade cider – well-balanced and perfectly complementing the meal. The price-to-quality ratio is excellent. We highly recommend this place to anyone who appreciates honest, creative cuisine with character and heart.

An incredible place. They mostly cater for take away orders but if you are lucky enough to spot a free table (one inside and two outside) go for it! The menu changes weekly, produce is local and organic and comes from the chef's parents garden; you can also taste apple cider and juice produced by his father. The food was simply scrumptious, so so delicious. A separate note on the place design, it is slick and minimalistic-ly chic. Highly recommend

During my recent business trip, I stumbled upon a hidden gem of a restaurant that caught my attention on Google. With only two tables, this intimate spot offers a thoughtfully curated menu featuring meat, vegetarian, and fish dishes. Although it lacks the extensive setup of larger establishments, the chef’s dedication to crafting each dish is evident in the flavors. Don’t miss the ultimate highlight: the French toast dessert, which is absolutely top-notch and worth the visit alone.
Matt Scheinman★★★★★
Incredible restaurant with a rotating menu and great concept. I would absolutely recommend this to anyone in Honfleur, especially those seeking creative and inspired takes using local ingredients. We had a wonderful experience and cannot recommend enough.

Extremely delicious smash burgers! Really nice quality meat, toppings, and a soft brioche bun. The guys who work there were super nice and patient, as I don’t speak much French. My teenage son is a very picky eater and loved the burger! We had fancy restaurant burgers in Paris and this one was way better. Qualify comfort food!

Just got a double smash burger and fries- the burger was made quickly, spilling out of the bun and just hit the right spot. Love their Blanche sauce- tastes like legit sour cream and onion.

This was honestly the best burger I've had in France. Probably in my top 5 of all time. If you like a good burger and you're nearby, you should stop by. Even if it means taking a detour.

Needed a quick bite before driving on to Le Shuttle on our journey back to the UK . Service was super friendly and really quick , and the burgers were delicious . In addition my daughter accidentally ordered a burger with mayo ( language barrier issues ) and the lovely server guy could not have been more helpful in making her another one with a friendly and kind attitude . Recommend highly ! 🤩🤩🤩

Omg. Just wow. We were absolutely starving after flying into paris and driving over and decided on the prefix lunch. What a treat that was. A little yogurt with a fruit jam and a biscuit to start with, along with a coffee product and a juice blend, followed by a dish with salad, savory biscuits, smoked turkey/salmon, eggs, potatoes. When we were in a food coma, they brought another sampler of 4 desserts. All absolutely delicious! This gem makes a trip to honfluer worth it in its own.
Jean Pierre Bisilliat★★★★☆
Loved everything about this place. I gave 4 stars because they really should have a totally separate menu for the items they serve at different times. I saw things I wanted but couldn’t get both time I went. The food was delicious and the croissants are perfection! The dish with sweet potato waffles was spectacular! See photo..

A must during your stay in Honfleur. We love the food, the service is always excellent, very kid friendly and there is a lovely atmosphere! Definitely order the pain perdu.
Regina Paltis★★★★☆
I have mixed feelings about this place. We arrived between breakfast and lunch. We were seated right away but it took us 10 mins to get a menu and then another 5 mins for a waitress to take our drink order and we didn't get our drinks for 25 mins after that. By this point, I was pretty mad. Eventually our food was brought out, and it was very good, so that made up for the wait slightly. My recommendation would be to come here after 11 am. Anything before that is super slow and the menu is very minimal before that time. On a positive note, it's a very cute atmosphere, both inside and outside. The issue seemed to be a lack of staff. What appeared to be a husband and wife team, they were both very nice when they came by, but very elusive because it was just the two of them. Food was yummy.
Paul Cook★★★★★
Wonderful, very accommodating and had wonderful breakfasts. The chef was lovely to chat to and sorted my wife’s breakfast to cater for her gluten intolerance. Lovely style and ambience to the place as well.

Sérgio was hands down the friendliest guy we met in Honfleur. My boyfriend said it, and I'm 100% on board. This place is like a breath of fresh air compared to some other places around there. Sérgio was helpful, smily, funny and sells amazing food. Him and his wife run the place (she makes awesome sauces!). Oh, and since they're Portuguese, you've got to eat some of the goodies from Portugal. They have those heavenly pastéis de nata and the pastéis de bacalhau. And don't forget about the Super Bock beer – you can't go wrong with that! We had a lovely time!

Great place for lunch. Super fast service and lovely staff. Food was nice as well. Lovely place all together.
Preston Kemp★★★☆☆
Great service from a very friendly waitress, and the mussels were pretty good. But the fish & chips - oh my god. It was a piece of cheap frozen fish from a supermarket, for which they charged around 21 euros. It took an awfully long time for the food to come (much longer than other tables), so I wonder if they'd run out of proper fish & had to send someone to the shop for that. It has lots of glowing reviews so we were obviously just unlucky. Really disappointing.

We found this spot on our way to Honfleur. Welcome us and the dog for a walk in booking. Sat in the courtyard area which is beautifully decorated. Our waitress spoke some English and was super friendly! Burgers and chocolate mouse was 10/10! Hit the spot as we were starving!! Would definitely go back! Skip the tourist spots on the water!
Ruby Sabina★★★★★
Easily the best burger I’ve ever had in my life. So so so delicious. The drinks were also exceptional. Try the chocolate mousse! Also incredible. Really cool vibe. Good music playing. Absolutely give it a try!!!!
Arthur Molines★★★★★
The menu is mostly burgers, so vegetarian and vegan should probably go elsewhere. For the meat and cheese lovers, this is your stop. Calling their items burgers doesn't make it justice. These burgers are elevated, rich and decadent. Probably one of the best burger I ever had. The amount of cheese on it was almost sinful. The price goes with it, at 20€ the burgers are not cheap, but well worth it. The fries were also good. The service was great. The restaurant offers limited seating inside and some seating outside. We were there at the opening and a line was forming, which says quite a lot about the popularity of the place. The inside is cute. I happily recommend it and will be back if I get a chance.
Arfon Davies★★★★★
As many others have said, the burgers here are very good indeed. Very unique too - interesting combinations on offer that most first time visitors won't have tried before. The cheesecake is also something very special - this is my favourite dessert and I've eaten a lot of good cheesecakes in my time. This one was excellent - so good I could have ordered another. Highly recommend.
Iwan Davies★★★★★
It was amazing here. When we first arrived it took them ages to even notice us waiting to be seated, they just walked past us. However once we were seated they were quick to ask for what we wanted and we were served our food swiftly. The food was exceptional, the burgers were unreal and delicious, with the fries also being tasty. For dessert I had the chocolate mousse which was delicious and my dad had the cheesecake, which he said was unbelievably good. If I could I would give the food a 6 out of 5. The atmosphere was nice, with nice seating. Overall it was very nice here and I would recommend coming.

Practical Tips for Dining Halal in Honfleur

A little preparation goes a long way when eating halal in a smaller French town. The following tips will help you eat confidently, avoid common misunderstandings, and discover dishes you might otherwise miss. Use them as a checklist before and during your meal.

Call ahead to confirm halal meat. Even restaurants known for halal food may change suppliers or run out of halal options on busy days. A quick call before you walk over is the most reliable way to verify current practices.

Ask about alcohol in sauces and desserts. Some French sauces use wine or brandy even when the meat is halal. Politely ask if a dish contains alcohol, and request a lemon or cream-based sauce instead if needed.

Seafood and vegetarian plates are safe fallbacks. Honfleur’s mussels, oysters, and grilled fish are excellent and naturally free of meat concerns. If you cannot verify halal status, choose a seafood or vegetarian dish at a trusted brasserie.

Look for North African and Lebanese kitchens. Restaurants serving Moroccan, Algerian, Tunisian, or Lebanese food are often the most experienced with halal preparation. Their menus also tend to offer rich, slow-cooked dishes that travel well for takeaway.

Bring a translation card if needed. A small note in French explaining your dietary needs can remove confusion. Phrases like “Je mange halal, sans alcool” help staff guide you to the right choices quickly.

Dine early or book ahead in summer. Honfleur gets crowded from June to September. Halal-friendly spots with limited seating fill up fast, so reserve a table or arrive before the evening rush.

Check grocery and butcher options for picnics. If restaurant choices feel limited, Honfleur’s markets and nearby halal butchers let you assemble a beautiful picnic. Fresh bread, cheese, fruit, and halal charcuterie by the harbor can be just as memorable as a sit-down meal.

Honfleur rewards travelers who slow down, ask questions, and let local rhythms guide their day. With a little planning, you can enjoy both the town’s artistic soul and a satisfying halal meal. Whether you settle in for couscous after sunset or grab grilled fish by the water, the flavors of Normandy will stay with you long after you leave.

The best meal in Honfleur is the one shared with good company in a place that respects your needs. Use this guide as your starting point, trust your instincts, and do not be afraid to explore a side street or follow a local recommendation. Bon appétit, or as they say in Arabic, bil hana wa shifa.
