12 Best Pharmacies in Rouen

Finding a reliable pharmacy in Rouen is about more than just filling a prescription. Whether you are a resident navigating the historic cobblestone streets or a visitor caught in the rain with a sudden migraine, knowing where to find knowledgeable staff and specific health products is essential. The French pharmacy experience is distinct, offering a high level of medical consultation that often saves you a trip to the doctor for minor ailments.

The city of Rouen, with its mix of medieval architecture and modern urban sprawl, hosts a dense network of pharmacies. However, not all are created equal in terms of opening hours, specialty services, or inventory. While many are clustered around the Rue du Gros-Horloge and the banks of the Seine, others serve the quieter residential neighborhoods on the Rive Droite and Rive Gauche.

When selecting a pharmacy here, you should consider more than just proximity. Look for establishments that offer on-site orthopedics, veterinary supplies, or specialized dermatology lines if you have specific needs. Additionally, the ability of the staff to speak English can be a deciding factor for the large expat community and the many tourists who visit the Cathedral of Notre-Dame.

French pharmacies are heavily regulated, which means you can generally trust the quality of the medicine you receive, but the level of customer service varies. The best pharmacies in Rouen distinguish themselves by offering personalized advice, remembering repeat customers, and maintaining stock of hard-to-find homeopathic remedies. They also provide crucial public health services such as flu vaccinations and blood pressure monitoring.

Navigating the "garde" (on-call) system is another critical aspect of pharmacy access in Rouen. If you need medication late at night or on a Sunday, you cannot simply walk into any closed storefront. You must locate the designated "Pharmacie de Garde," which rotates weekly, a service that is vital for urgent pediatric needs or unexpected antibiotics.

Below, we have compiled a list of the most reputable pharmacies in the Rouen area. These selections are based on their accessibility, the breadth of their services, and their reputation for professional care.

My friend bought a product here that didn't work. She went back to change it for a new one. They refused because she had bought it in a pair. Zero customer service. They made a mistake, then they should fix it.
Marc P★☆☆☆☆
Don't get cold medicine from them! I got scammed. Asked for a decongestant/ sinus relief. They sold me some herbal remedy with no medical ingredients. Provided no other option. It did nothing. Found out that it was far more expensive than something like advil sinus. They should not have a license.
Pablo Reclusa★☆☆☆☆
Do never go there! I was on holidays with my boyfriend and he went to that pharmacy since his nose was clogged ans requested sinutab or something similar. My surprise comes when he is back in the hotel and the pharmacist gave him some pills that were similar. The pills were a herbal remedy based on some eucalyptus esence, colza oil and gelatin. The product did not even have a prospect, the paper inside was just a list of all the products from the same brand. And the indication was, ´winter diseases´. Basically, the pure definition of a scam, people like that should have their license removed. If you are going to buy expensive herbs or sugar balls, I do recommend go directly to an herbal expert or to the candy store.

Merci! To the staff at the Grand Pharmacie du centre Rouen. As a tour guide I often have to help my guests when they forgot or lost their medication..this time I was the one who needed help. They were very kind and helpful and spoke English. I appreciate their service and cannot thank them enough. Merci...

So, I arrive, the security guard stops me because of my bag. I show it to him, and he offers me a cashier. He's just doing his job; he's not rude. I ask about the sunscreen, and he tells me it's downstairs. I go downstairs to the aisle, but I can't find it. I spend 10 minutes looking, but I still can't find it. I come back, and the cashier next to me sees me looking for the product and doesn't have any customers, so she doesn't help me. She's standing right across from the aisle and me. Luckily, a brunette woman walks by. I show her a picture of what I want and explain that the website said they had it in stock. She confirms, goes to look elsewhere, and brings it back. A nice woman. I go to pay, in cash. It's upstairs, and there's a long queue: one on the left for "without a prescription" and one on the right for "prescription." It's very slow. It was going well until I overheard a customer complaining from behind a Black woman with a stroller that "there were only Black Arabs and it stank." So, this was the customer's comment, not the staff's. But it was 24-25°C outside... Overall, the experience was okay, especially considering the cashier who wouldn't help me and the long wait. The woman's comment touched me, for the sake of those who heard it. 👎

Absolutely fantastic pharmacist! A very warm welcome, attentive, and above all, excellent advice. You can tell they're a true professional who takes the time to explain things and offer tailored solutions. It's reassuring to deal with such a serious and caring pharmacist. I highly recommend them!

This is my second experience with this pharmacy. The first time, everything went perfectly: the woman was very kind and gave me good advice. Today, however, I dealt with a man. I tried my best, but he was nonchalant and didn't explain things well, to the point that we had to ask a lot of questions. It's a shame, because the first time, the woman really made an impression on me. But now, I don't feel ready to go back.

Saturday, March 28, 2026. On-call pharmacy today. I called because I had run out of formula for my 3-month-old baby, without realizing it earlier in the day. The pharmacist criticized me several times, saying I should have stocked up on formula at home, without knowing my personal or financial situation. She also told me she didn't normally sell formula while on call, which surprised me (another pharmacy I contacted later confirmed there was no problem with this). The price of the formula was already high (€25.99), well above what you usually find, and she added a €10 surcharge for being on call. She eventually removed the charge, but specified that it would be the first and last time. I appreciate the gesture, but the service was very unpleasant. As a tired new mom, I felt judged rather than helped. I do not recommend this pharmacy.

This pharmacy was recently taken over by a very helpful and attentive young pharmacist. The team is very pleasant and patient. While waiting your turn, you can hear aggressive comments from other customers. I admire the patience of both the staff and the pharmacist.

Hello, On August 16, 2025, I went to this pharmacy because of an urgent issue. Not being a regular customer and unable to provide proof of my medication, my anxiety, due to my usual experience elsewhere, was palpable, especially since regulations apply to dispensing the medication I needed. Thank you to the team who helped me: first the pharmacy technician, then the pharmacist, for very understandable and justified reasons. I went to a pharmacy, not a supermarket. The welcome I received was that of a healthcare professional, not a shopkeeper. A big thank you for the help I received, which was delivered with a truly professional, non-commercial approach.
Aurélie Gomis (Gomisia)★☆☆☆☆
Completely shocked, my husband went to get Coquelusedal and Doliprane for my son. The woman asked him the child's weight, which was 13 kg. She gave him Coquelusedal for children 30 months to 15 years old, but my son is 19 months old! Luckily, I checked before giving it to him! And she gave him Doliprane for children weighing 6 to 12 kg because she was out of the one for children 13 kg and over! Anything goes, even at the risk of endangering children. Bravo! Thank you for calling and apologizing!

Does age make you better? Not at this pharmacy... With a broken foot, I would have liked to have my crutches before the weekend, but the pharmacist clearly didn't agree. If you have an electronic prescription, don't even bother. I wasn't there to get high, just to relieve the pain in my foot... Open until 7:30 pm, but apparently after 7 pm, a smile is no longer the order of the day.
Ophélie FLAMENT★☆☆☆☆
This is the first time in four years that I've been refused a prescription despite having one, and this has been with the same doctor for years. I understand that it might be a safety precaution due to fear of the pharmacy, but the dismissive tone of the person I was dealing with—and I was quite surprised, since that's not how her colleagues usually act—made me feel like a criminal. I regularly buy hygiene products here and come for the medications I need. Speaking of the medications in question, I was about to buy two. I was stunned by the refusal without any explanation. Before I even had a chance to pay, she took the merchandise back, which, by the way, is over-the-counter. So, we suddenly become parasites overnight. Anyway, that was the last time I'll be here.

A trusted pharmacy for over 10 years. This has been our family's pharmacy for over 10 years, and we recommend it without hesitation. The team is always very welcoming and attentive. A genuine mutual trust has developed over the years. They are incredibly accommodating: when we run out of our usual medication and the prescription has expired, they agree to fill it for us until we can go back to the doctor to renew it. It's a huge relief in our daily lives when it comes to managing our health. A really nice little bonus: their loyalty card, which allows you to receive a small gift from the pharmacy after spending a certain amount (if I understood correctly ☺️). A caring, professional team that truly cares about its patients. A big thank you to you all. Ms. Chemin

First time I went to this pharmacy, I didn't think ordering a breast pump would be so complicated for them. The first person I spoke to said they did have one in stock, but they needed a deposit check. I said okay, I'd set it aside and come back the next day with the check. No more pumps available, but a new one arrived that same afternoon. Okay, I waited, wrote the check, signed the contract, everything was fine, just to pick it up. The afternoon passed, and they told me, "Oh, no, misunderstanding, it'll be tomorrow." Okay… The next day we went to pick it up, and surprise, they asked me for payment! Why not be upfront about it from the start, especially on the first day? I told them it was "urgent," and no one mentioned the amount to pay. We're waiting for the contract to be signed, or it's not stated anywhere. I should have gone somewhere else from the beginning. This is completely unprofessional. Never again.

In my opinion, the Clos Saint-Marc pharmacy is simply the best pharmacy in Rouen! The entire team is exceptional: each pharmacist is kind, pleasant, attentive, and incredibly patient. You truly feel valued and supported, which is invaluable. The owner, for his part, is particularly attentive to the well-being and needs of his customers—it's immediately apparent. I also greatly appreciate all the little touches that make a difference: the pouches for storing prescriptions, the practical cases for your health insurance card or supplemental insurance card… Everything is designed to make our daily lives easier. It's a place where you feel welcomed, advised with professionalism and kindness, and where you always leave with a smile. An exemplary pharmacy that I wholeheartedly recommend!
Elena grare★☆☆☆☆
I am very disappointed by the reception and lack of consideration at this pharmacy. During my first visit, I arrived with a severe sore throat (tonsillitis, confirmed the next day by a doctor). Being in such a difficult state, I expected at least some advice or guidance. The pharmacist was unhelpful, unable to provide me with clear information, and made me feel like I was bothering her. During my second visit, I found myself without birth control pills because my prescription had expired, with a doctor's appointment only a few days later. Despite the situation, no effort or temporary solution was offered. I was simply told that "nothing could be done," without any explanation or alternative. I understand that there are rules, but the lack of listening, empathy, and willingness to help is hardly acceptable in a healthcare setting. One expects a minimum of advice and support, especially in urgent situations. I do not recommend this pharmacy.

I don't even know where to begin, the advice is so bad... Wrong dosage! Lack of product knowledge! And to top it all off, I asked for a mini tube of La Roche-Posay cream (white with a blue logo) for eczema, and she pulls out a huge tube of Avène moisturizing cream. I explained that the tube wasn't even bigger than my index finger, and that it wasn't the right brand or product... and to my utter surprise, she showed me an even bigger bottle for atopic skin! Clearly, she also lacks competence; she doesn't listen to what she's asked or explained. So, for a pharmacy technician or pharmacist (I haven't checked her diploma or title), I find it very disappointing.

Honestly, it was a bizarre experience from the start. I felt uneasy as soon as I walked in. The looks were so haughty and strange that I almost left immediately. I thought, "Maybe I'm just imagining things, forget it..." But no, what followed confirmed my initial impressions. The service was interminable. I waited and waited... and when it came time to collect my medication (which was numerous and bulky), they asked me, "Would you like a bag? It'll be 5 cents." I said yes, of course, and mentioned that I was paying by card. And then: "Oh no, that's not possible." Excuse me? So, no bag. They literally told me to put everything in my pocket. Who does that? Besides, it was pouring rain outside, I was holding an umbrella in one hand, and in the other, I was juggling a stack of medicine boxes. The result? Everything fell to the floor as soon as I walked out the door. I completely understand the idea of avoiding waste and charging for bags. But a minimum of common sense and, above all, humanity is necessary. In a supermarket, it's logical; I bring my own reusable bags. But here, we're talking about medication given to a sick person, with no alternative offered, and on top of that, it's pouring rain. I've never seen anything like it. And when I expressed my incomprehension, the response was: "That's the way the system is," accompanied by strange gestures and mocking shrugs. I'm willing to believe that some people don't like their job, but in this case, perhaps it's time for a career change. Because working in a pharmacy is, above all, about supporting, listening to, and helping patients, not making their lives even more difficult with inappropriate behavior and deplorable service. Honestly, first and last time I'll ever set foot in that place. I return to my usual pharmacy, where at least I am received with respect and humanity.

How to Choose the Right Pharmacy in Rouen

Selecting the right pharmacy requires a bit of strategy, especially if you are managing a chronic condition or have specific wellness goals. While the list above provides excellent starting points, you should know what to look for when you walk through the door. A great pharmacy is a partner in your health, not just a retailer of boxes and bottles.

Check for Specialized Services: Before settling on a regular pharmacy, ask if they offer services like "entretien pharmaceutique" (pharmaceutical interviews) for patients on blood thinners or asthma medication. If you have a baby, look for a pharmacy that stocks a wide range of baby milks and offers advice on colic. For those with skin issues, a pharmacy with a dedicated dermo-cosmetic section and trained aestheticians is invaluable.

Understand the French System: In France, you often need to see a pharmacist for minor issues before you see a doctor. If you have a sore throat or a suspected urinary tract infection, the pharmacist can often perform a rapid test (TROD) on the spot and dispense medication without a prescription. Choose a pharmacy where the staff is willing to take the time to listen rather than one that simply points to a shelf.

Consider Digital Access: Many of the best pharmacies in Rouen now offer "click and collect" services. This is particularly useful if you are buying bulky items like baby diapers or specific supplements that are not always in stock. Check if the pharmacy has an active website or app where you can upload your prescription (ordonnance) in advance, ensuring your medication is ready when you arrive.

Look for "Parapharmacie" Space: If you are interested in natural remedies, essential oils, or high-end cosmetics, the physical layout of the store matters. Pharmacies with a large "parapharmacie" area (the section for non-prescription items) usually allow you to browse freely without feeling rushed. This is ideal for comparing sunscreens or finding hypoallergenic products for sensitive skin.

Assess Language Capabilities: For non-French speakers, navigating medical terminology can be daunting. While many pharmacists in Rouen have some English proficiency, it is safer to frequent pharmacies near the university or tourist centers where multilingual staff are more common. Don’t be afraid to ask if someone speaks English; a good pharmacist will find a way to communicate effectively regarding dosages and safety.

Loyalty and Local Knowledge: Finally, remember that pharmacies in France are independent businesses, even if they belong to buying groups. Building a relationship with one specific pharmacist means they will have a record of your allergies and past medications. This local knowledge is critical for preventing adverse drug interactions and ensures you receive consistent, personalized care every time you visit.

Rouen’s healthcare landscape is robust, and its pharmacies are the frontline of that system.
