Reims is a city that lives on two great appetites: a hunger for history and a love of good food. As the unofficial capital of the Champagne region, it draws visitors from around the world who come to tour its grand cathedral, trace the steps of French kings, and taste some of the most celebrated sparkling wines on earth. But a trip here does not have to come with a Michelin-starred price tag.
Beyond the chalk cellars and Gothic facades, Reims has a thriving everyday dining scene shaped by students, market vendors, and families who know exactly where to eat well without overspending. The city’s affordable restaurants range from traditional brasseries and crêperies to modern bistros with a creative edge. These are places where the welcome is warm, the portions are generous, and the bill is refreshingly reasonable.
Eating affordably in Reims does not mean settling for forgettable food. In fact, some of the most memorable meals in the city are found in modest dining rooms where the focus stays on seasonal produce, regional cheeses, and slow-cooked classics. A good value menu here often includes two or three courses, giving you a true taste of the Champagne-Ardenne region without the formal atmosphere of high-end dining.
Whether you are spending a long weekend exploring the Avenue de Champagne or stopping for a single night on the way to Paris, knowing where the locals eat will transform your visit. The right restaurant can introduce you to regional specialties such as jambon de Reims, lentil salad with mustard vinaigrette, and the famous pink biscuits served with a glass of local wine.
This guide is built for travelers who want to eat honestly and spend wisely. Every restaurant on this list offers a dependable meal at a price that respects your budget, with a focus on quality ingredients and genuine hospitality. You will find options for lunch, dinner, and everything in between, all located within easy reach of the city’s main sights.
Below, you will find a curated selection of the best affordable restaurants in Reims, chosen for their consistency, character, and value. After the list, read on for practical tips that will help you eat even better while keeping your budget intact.

Absolute gem of a place. It's rare thing to see super friendly and professional service in France because usually it's 50/50. Have had multiple visits and everyone is super friendly, professional and fast in service.
Would specifically bring out Clara because she really stood out in service. Thank you for making our experience wonderful.
And special Thanks to Thomas.
Merci.

Great restaurant in Reims. We had dinner there and absolutely loved it! My first beouf a la tartar and it was delicious. And lots of salad came also with it, which was for me extra good news.
Staff is really friendly and helpful. Big thanks to the team!
Really recommend this place! Good choice!
Anastasia van Sas★★★★★
The food was very good! Felt like a proper home cooked meal, and the starters were also perfect. Would definitely recommend.

We ate twice at the Sacrés Petits Coches in Reims, once at the beginning of our journey, and once at the end. Both times the service was friendly, prompt, and on point, and the food was excellent. It's the kind of food you would have eaten at a roadside Inn back in the day, local ingredients and solid "cuisine de tradition", no pretentious chefs in this kitchen. It was a perfect way to open and end our travels. I highly recommend.
Luca Cantone★★★★★
A lovely evening: even though we booked late, our table was ready and waiting for us. The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming. The food was excellent, especially the meat dishes (steak and roast chicken). The desserts were superb. A relaxed and cosy atmosphere.

A local bistro with a selected seasonal daily menu, nothing fancy but the food was really good.

Fantastic find! Delicious food, a warm atmosphere, and a welcoming place. We had a wonderful time. I highly recommend this place!

We ordered there a combo o chicken and steak, and both were delicious, very well done and tender. My 3 and 4 y olds were able to eat it easily and loved it as well. I would definitely recommend this restaurant.
If you like some plain meat options different than hamburgers very nicely done and on a simple and relaxing set without over-complications, this is the place for sure, there are plenty of seats.
The lady who served us was also very friendly. As soon as she noticed that I had some difficulty speaking French, she immediately switched to English and did a great job explaining the menu and the different options.
I will definitely come back the next time I am in Reims.
Courtney Payne★★★★★
Everything was excellent! The chicken was crispy and juicy, the poivre sauce was delicious. Even the salad dressing was great. Highly recommend for a no be frills meal in Reims.
Chahna Gorania★★★★★
We ordered the chicken dishes from the menu and they certainly didn’t disappoint. The chicken was cooked perfectly, incredibly tender, and packed with flavour thanks to the amazing seasoning.
The fries were also delicious and complemented the meal really well. In fact, this ended up being our favourite meal of the entire trip and the best food we had in the region.
The service was excellent throughout, with a warm and welcoming atmosphere that made the experience even better. We would highly recommend this place to anyone visiting the area.
Alexandros Markatis★★★★★
Amazing place for a quick lunch or dinner. I went there late afternoon so there was no waiting line. The staff was super friendly and spoke in English, as my French is not very good (apologies for that). The Irish Angus was tender and nicely salted, the chicken was perfect and the chips hand cut and crispy. Highly recommended place!!
Rian Gonzales★★★★★
Been wanting to try this restaurant since every time I pass by it's always full of customers. I'm happy we came around lunch time and got their formule which was a complete meal + a choice of drink or dessert for €17.
I'm usually fond of restaurants that specialize only on one thing and La Brigade is one of those. It's a pretty straightforward concept, no frills, fast and an enjoyable dining experience. I got an onglet de bœuf and my husband had a poulet pané. The beef was a bit overcooked than what i ordered but I still enjoyed my experience in the restaurant anyway. The fries were perfectly cooked, they feel like fait maison and not industriL 💖 the roquefort miel and chimi-pesto sauces were delightful and I'm excited to try the other sauces 😊 the framboise pastèque tea and citronnade maison were super good, I highly recommend it! 💖
Our server was very nice and courteous despite a busy lunch service. People were starting to pile up at the cashier and he took the initiative to give us the bill and process our payment at the table.
I'm definitely coming back to try their other offerings 😊💖

Amazing food and service for a great price. I had the duck in orange sauce and it was delicious! The servers were all very friendly and helpful.
While the menu is mainly duck dishes, there are a few chicken and beef dishes available. The drinks menu had something for everyone too (and they do have champagne!).
Really recommend this place 🙂
Steve Parkes★★★★★
Didn't really know what to expect. It's highly recommended but cheap! In reality, a great little restaurant serving the very best of duck dishes. We started with the Thai Duck Croquettes which were fabulous, but they looked so nice we dived right in without taking a photo! Staff were great, and although we've had cheaper wines, it was a very nice bottle. Would 100% go back.
Niels van Elten★★★★☆
Service is amazing and good humoured, good jokes 11/10 40€ tip.
The duck is the star of the show, with amazing mayo. The side dishes are quite decent but nothing to write home about. The fries under the duck soaks them nicely in the duck fat. However, they were a bit soggy likely due to some older oil and not double frying the fries.
All in all I would recommend coming by here, and just ordering the duck.
*the cheese platter is just one type of cheese, the cheese is nice and pairs well with cote du rhone or an even bolder wine. It being one cheese better suits it as an appetiser as well.
**at night some of the upstairs tables have some bright white streetlights shining straight in your eyes. This is difficult to prevent. Maybe some little curtains at these spots would improve the atmosphere. However, I am not gonna lower my atmosphere rating for that, because the toilet had epic disco lights.
ananya shetty★★★★★
If there’s one place that deserves a spot on the must-try list in Reims, it’s “Canard Street”.Absolutely delicious every bite is full of rich duck flavour.
You can tell they know what they’re doing, and they do it really well. Soooo tasty… I’ll definitely be back.
Wonderingchef★★★★☆
Good lunch spot, good service and welcoming staff. Tasty food all round.
My only issue was a slightly gritty bit in a small part of my salad or I would of given 5 stars all round. That being said I will be back to tey more of their tasty canard

Julie Knott★★★★☆
We arrived here on a Tuesday night with a reservation, but were shown a table that was less than ideal. It was so hot & noisy inside that we decided to relocate to the terrace area. It was better. We shared a baked cheese with honey dish. Then our mains of pepper steak & honey glazed salmon were fine, but not impressive. The salad was very basic. It was an adequate meal.
Eerik Heijari★★★★★
Easy French dinner with very informal setting and relaxed atmosphere. Food was really good, especially the brisket and the ribs. Fries were excellent. Personally I would prefer actual mayonnaise or more rich sauce to accompany the ketchup. No reservation needed, just queue a bit and voila! Recommended😊
Louisa Moore★★★★☆
We were staying in Reims for a couple of nights while touring the nearby champagne houses and were searching for a local but hospitable place to eat dinner, and Le Tablier looked homey and welcoming so we decided to give it a try.
This is exactly the kind of brasserie you hope to stumble into in the middle of Reims. It's right on Place Drouet d'Erlon with a big, lively terrace facing the Subé fountain. That means it gives off great people-watching vibes, although in December it was too chilly to dine outside.
The atmosphere of the restaurant hits that sweet spot between cozy, rustic, and modern. It feels relaxed but still polished, like a place that knows what it's doing without trying too hard. The tables are packed too closely together, which was a nice change as to the European norm. We were able to enjoy our dinner and conversation without touching elbows with fellow guests. To be fair, we were dining at an "off" time, so it wasn't very busy. Your mileage may vary if you visit during the popular dinner hours.
The staff were genuinely welcoming, especially to foreign visitors, which honestly stands out by French standards. English menus were available, service was friendly and easygoing, and nothing felt rushed. We were greeted warmly by the host, who immediately started speaking to us in English (how do they ALWAYS KNOW?!). We still tried to speak some French to him, which he appreciated. I swear attempting to converse in the local language does wonders when you're a tourist in Europe!
The cocktail menu is extensive and creative, and we had some excellent cocktails along with a solid house wine (typical in France) that set me back a whopping 5 Euros LOL. My hubby's cocktail was beautifully presented and garnished with dried fruit, and it was nice and strong. Even the bread basket deserves a shout out for the simple, fresh, and very snackable crusty, sliced baguette.
Food-wise, everything was quite tasty. My snail-loving hubby said the escargots (9 Euros for a half dozen) were plump, garlicky, and perfectly done. He never, ever passes up the chance to order this dish whenever we are in France, and he really raved about these. I opted for the Salmon Amandine (24 Euros), which was served with a cider and mustard sauce and butter mashed potatoes. My fish was flavorful and well-cooked, and the portion was quite large. My husband went with a steak and potatoes dish, which he said was rich and satisfying. The potatoes were fried in what tasted like duck fat, and everything was well seasoned.
Even by American standards, the portions were huge. These are definitely generous brasserie-style plates, so much so that we skipped on dessert (and the selections sounded incredible). For escargots, salmon, beef, a cocktail, glass of wine, bottled water, and all that atmosphere, we paid about €80, which felt like a great deal for the quality and location. It's not cheap, but it's worth it.
I would definitely recommend Le Tablier to visitors in the area. It's a great choice for a casual, fun meal with tasty drinks right in the heart of Reims.

Danielle served us today for our quick lunch. She was so sweet. Had the burger social and pasta dish. Food was delish!!!!!
Phil Vella★★★★★
Friendly service and they have a very decent vegan burger on the menu! Bit too noisy for my liking today, seems to be some kind of festival going on, and they have a live band just outside the door with the PA cranked up to full volume!

What makes this place really special is that it’s run and managed by Jérôme himself, who also cooks everything on the menu- the food is absolutely delicious - authentic, traditional French cuisine!
The atmosphere is just as impressive. Jérôme has an incredible sense of style, and every detail in the restaurant is thoughtfully curated by him.
What made the experience unforgettable, though, was Jérôme himself. He is a truly warm and attentive host who clearly takes pride in making sure his guests feel welcome and looked after. At the end of our meal, he even gifted me a piece of his homemade savoury cake (“cake salé”), which was such a thoughtful and generous gesture.
I left feeling genuinely impressed and grateful for the experience. This is more than just a place to eat - it’s a place to connect, enjoy, and appreciate real passion for food and hospitality.
Thank you , Jérôme! We are definitely coming back 🙂
Michael Dabbs★★★★★
We arrived slightly late (by French standards!) for lunch so there was only space at the bar. Jolly host Jerome looked after us until we were the last ones there! We had terrine, chicken leg, pork cheek, a plate of cheese, damson tart, chocolate torte, multiple glasses of champagne and red wine, with a couple of coffees, too. Old school but the best school. Lovely lunch!!
Veronique Ortega★★★★★
Best food and dessert of my life. We started with a wonderful salad, chicken sausage and ratatouille and the best dessert- apricot cheesecake. The service was from the nicest man ever. According to other reviews he’s the one man show. So sweet and really did a great job serving everyone in the restaurant. We were pressed with time to catch the train and he gave us a Tupperware container for the dessert to go. The best experience ever. A definite repeat when we come back. Thank you very much!
Tammy Gordon★★★★★
This was the best meal I've had in France!!!
The owner was unbelievable. He not only serves, cooks but also entertains his guests. His server was also amazing. Helped me pair my lunch with a drink and with flair. The cheese bread that was brought out before my meal was perfect. It was light, airy and moist. The salmon was my main. Cooked to perfection. The rustic baked baby potatoes and puree of cauliflower, cabbage and celery paired beautifully. For dessert I had the flan... I dont even know how he could could be so talented. At first I thought the crust was too thick but I was wrong.
As a pastry chef myself I couldn't have anticipated the absolute perfection of my meal. He's a Picasso for your palate.
Bravo monsieur.
Can not recommend this restaurant enough!!!
Also Kayla was a Superb hostess❤️
Marc Augenstreich★★★★★
I waited a bit to publish this. I went there many times. My mind is set : very good typical French home cuisine, nice wine and Champagne choice. People are here to enjoy a quiet atmosphere, Jérôme is a wonderful host. He does everything himself !
If you plan to go there on your way back from a visit to the cellars near by : book with a large advanced time schedule.
Looking forward to returning there soon.

We sat out on the terrace with a view of the Basilica - magical. It was a Monday night so we didn't have a problem getting a table. There is QR code for the English version of the menu. There were not many vegetarian options for me, so I opted for the cheese salad, which was huge & had many elements. I followed up with the salmon tartare, which was good. My partner had the sausage starter & the beef skewers, both of which he enjoyed. It was hard to fit all the plates on the tiny table.
Kellie Whyte★★★★★
Fantastic food! Huge servings! Luc was very attentive! We spoke no French so he had a lot of patience! Really friendly and accommodating. Worth a visit! X
TheBMH28★★★☆☆
It's was ok........ starter (snails) was beautiful, unfortunately thats where the quality ended, the rotisserie chicken was served cold and nor crispy skin etc. The crepe deserts tasted like heated up supermarket crepes. We were so looking forward to a traditional French restaurant experience, unfortunately this was not it. The serving staff were lovely though.

Great find in the City Centre, as most restaurants in Reims are closed on Sunday afternoon. Friendly English speaking staff, who provided great service and were willing to help.
Food was much better than anticipated, as it looked very much like a typical “Tourist restaurant”.
Escargots were delicious, in just the right amount of garlic butter. Salmon Poke bowl for main course, with lots of chunks of delicious fresh salmon. My fellow diners also commented on the quality of their meals. The XXL Profiterole, really was huge. It was filled with ice cream and totally impossible to finish.
Highly recommend Le Gaulois and will definitely return next time I happen to be in Reims
Toril Andrea S. Valseth★★★★★
Such a great place. The waitress we had was super from the beginning to the end. We got a nice booth even we were only two people. The food was superb. Onion soup was the best we have had in ages. So much taste, but not salty. The escargots, yummy, great flavor, perfectly made. And the beef cheeks, so tender, flavorful, but not overly salted. The meet just fell apart. We had a great time there, relaxing and laid back athmosphere. They didnt stress us, even we were finished. Had a good coffee at the end. Will definately go back everytime we are in Reims. We came back the next day, for the daily lunch. Roastbeef, gosh, so good. Service was just as good.
We have been there a again since i wrote my review. Everytime just as good as before. Super.

We randomly stopped here on a Sunday morning while traveling in Reims. The food was amazing! The portions are large and flavors savory. Alex took great care of us and spoke English to us travelers. Merci Beaucoup.
Foteini Koukouviti★★★★★
A highly recommended restaurant! Although, it appears a bit touristy, we had the best beef tartare, and the onion soup was also very good. The staff were polite, and the service was fast.
GoûteEnRoute★★★★★
Just steps from the cathedral’s soaring spires, this charming bistro offers swift service, which is a welcome relief for visitors balancing sightseeing and lunch. The dishes arrive quickly, allowing you to enjoy a satisfying meal without feeling rushed. The food itself is genuinely delicious — from expertly seared meat to fresh seasonal vegetables, everything is fait à la maison, and each plate has clearly been prepared with care and flavour in mind. One thing to note: the venue is so popular that there is often a long queue outside, especially at peak lunch or dinner times. It’s definitely worth the wait, but arriving a bit earlier or booking ahead is a good idea.

The BEST wine bar in Reims, with an infinite variety to choose from and so many great champagnes to taste. I absolutely adored this place! If you are visiting Reims you should check out this Wine bar, it has everything you will be looking for when visiting Reims. Also The tapas is very good, the mixed platter of Cheese and meat is delicious.
The service is amazing, the waiter is always very friendly and smiling (tall blond guy with glasses and a lady with dark hair), well done to you both, you both made our experience very enjoyable.

Well, this is a must-visit address for any wine lover (amateur or connoisseur !)
Aline is a wonderful host, quick to help choose the bottle that best suits each client's palate !
We went in looking to try a Syrah bottle ; the first she recommended (can't remember the name) was quite nice, light, fruity ! We ordered a second different Syrah bottle - Château de L’ou : Infiniment 2017 - which was really amazing. More depth, astringency, and a mild finish ! Her advice was spot on !
We also ordered appetizers ; the beef empanadas were super delicious ! Till next time...!
Update 07/02/24 :
Still a great address to taste excellent wine and enjoy a delicious meal!
Went there today with 2 wine lovers, and it was exquisite.
The boss (Aline) is super friendly and helpful to get the best wine experience with the dishes ordered.
I tried the brocoli and ham pie; great starter, fresh fluffy pie with nice flavours.
The main dish was Spanish pork meatballs called "albondigas" marinated in a delicious tomato sauce, with grenailles potatoes. Very tasty dish, savorous meat and potatoes cooked perfectly.
The whole accompanied with a Syrah bottle "Infiniment" that was fruity and light.
Never disappointed when coming to this joint!

Really delicious and fresh brunch/lunch fare for the health conscious. Expat Americans who miss those coastal city health food brunch spots would love this place. The celery juice blend I had was so good. As was the chicken bowl with avocado and accompanying bread. Will definitely come back. The terrace is on a very beautiful town square. Inside is a standard hipster atmosphere with a fleet of cute little French waiters (tous bruns) and an efficient and friendly hostess.
If you're an American please don't annoy the busy stuff with a lot of substitution requests. This is not done in France. The chefs put the plates together thoughtfully and they are perfect as they are.

I am so glad we came here. We didn’t have a booking but there were many tables. It’s on the main square, but it’s not a tourist trap and it seems to be a family run business. Very friendly staff who were patient with my basic French!
Food was absolutely delicious, we rolled out!

My wife and I were looking for a high quality, family run restaurant with French cuisine and this place was conveniently located right across the road from our accommodation in Reims. We were not disappointed at all.
Highly recommend the veal medallions and be sure to try out the nougat ice-cream. I'm not even a fan of nougat and I loved it. My only misstep here was accidentally ordering a cheaper glass of champagne. After our visit to caves du vin for tastings earlier in the day this particular wine was a disappointment. Ask the waiter for a recommendation. When in Reims...
btw - We were extremely fortunate to secure a walk-in table at this venue. They were turning people away after us. Be sure to book!

A lovely little wine bar, very stylish and neat. We came for a glass of wine and beer and stayed for dinner. The hosts were both very friendly and helpful with my student French. And the food was very tasty and fresh.

Food is great. The feuilleté d’escargot(Puff pastry-wrapped escargot) is divine we even ordered a second one!

Great place. Super fresh. I can tell they have a high level of pride in what they do. Spotless bathroom.

Came here while on vacation. The restaurant is beautiful inside and the staff is friendly and attentive. Food was delicious. I ate a risotto, which I loved, but I thought the ham on top was quite unnecessary. Pizza was good but I also found there was too much ham, but this is a personal preference.

Lovely experience for the vibe, food and service. Reasonably priced and Mikita was lovely and friendly, and spoken good English which helped us a lot but we did try! They gave a bread with the meal free of charge. I had the lasagna, which was a slight twist than traditionally but very lovely and it came with a nice side salad. We shared the peaches sorbet and pistachio tiramisu which was a must have!

Everything about this place was great. So great, that we've repeated it in two days - the Milanese schnitzel is probably the best I've had in my life and the risotto with flambeed gambas THE best risotto I ever.
The staff is super nice, the place is spacious and beautiful and the food is to die for.
Can't wait to return. 🥂❤️

A fantastic dining experience! The prawn risotto was absolutely delicious and cooked to perfection. We also had dessert, which was equally tasty—a great way to end the meal.
The interior design is beautiful and creates a wonderful atmosphere. Pro tip: You definitely need to visit the restrooms! The design and decor there are very interesting and worth a look.
The service was top-notch, and the champagne was excellent. I highly recommend this place for both the food and the unique vibe!

I had a wonderful experience at Harold Le Restaurant in Reims. I stopped in for an Americano and a slice of cake, and both were absolutely delightful — the coffee was smooth and well-balanced, and the cake was fresh and delicious.
The service stood out just as much as the food; the staff were genuinely friendly, attentive, and accommodating, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The restaurant itself is beautifully artistic, with thoughtful details in its design that make it feel both stylish and inviting.
A lovely bonus is the gift shop next door, filled with exquisite and unique pieces that complement the restaurant’s creative ambiance. It’s the kind of place where you can enjoy not only excellent food and coffee, but also a truly memorable experience.
Highly recommended if you’re in Reims!

Quite possibly the best meal of our entire European vacation! Quiet tucked away courtyard was an absolute treat for our weekday lunch before wine tasting. The service was incredibly warm and attentive. The food hard to beat - the gazpacho was perfect for a hot day! Highly recommend Harold to all in Reims.

Really great little place tucked off the busy street. The staff was really efficient and accomodating particularly going the extra mile for children to enjoy there experience too! Two swaps from the kids menu!
Really nice dishes, fresh food.
I recommend for a nice experience and a break away the hustle and bustle while remaining very affordable (and not chain food).
Tips for Eating Affordably in Reims
The secret to dining well in Reims without overspending is to eat like a local. Restaurant culture here follows a clear rhythm, and once you understand it, you can enjoy excellent food at a fraction of the tourist price. Use these practical tips to make the most of every meal.
Choose the lunch formula. Many restaurants in Reims offer a fixed-price lunch menu called a formule or menu du jour. These menus are usually available only on weekdays and often include a starter and main course, or a main course and dessert, for a significantly lower price than the evening à la carte options. Plan your main meal for midday and save considerably.
Look beyond the cathedral square. Restaurants directly facing the Cathédrale Notre-Dame or the main pedestrian shopping streets tend to charge higher prices for the convenience. Walk five or ten minutes into the Boulingrin, Forum, or Clairmarais neighborhoods, and you will find better value with more local character.
Embrace the regional classics. Affordable restaurants in Reims often shine brightest when serving traditional dishes. Try the lentil salad, potée champenoise, or andouillette if you are feeling adventurous. These dishes rely on local ingredients and long-standing recipes, which keeps prices fair and flavors authentic.
Check for student-friendly spots. Reims is home to a large university population, especially around the Sciences Po campus and the Fac de Droit. Cafés and small bistros in these areas frequently offer budget-friendly daily specials, generous sandwiches, and cheap coffee menus that are open to everyone.
Share a planche or order à la carte. Many wine bars and casual restaurants serve planches of cheese, charcuterie, or regional ham that are large enough to share. Pairing a planche with a glass of local Bouzy Rouge or a simple crémant can be a satisfying and affordable alternative to a full multi-course dinner.
Skip the expensive Champagne pairings at dinner. It is tempting to order Champagne with every meal, but restaurant markups on well-known houses can be steep. Instead, ask for a glass of coteaux champenois, a still wine from the region, or choose a modest house Champagne by the glass. You will still taste the terroir without stretching your budget.
Ask about the ardoise. Many of the best value kitchens in Reims write their daily specials on a blackboard, or ardoise, rather than printing them on the permanent menu. These dishes are often based on what was fresh at the market that morning and represent the best balance of quality and price.
Reims proves that a city famous for luxury can also be wonderfully generous to travelers on a budget. The restaurants listed here reflect a dining culture that values craft, tradition, and hospitality over pretense. A simple lunch of terrine, bread, and a glass of local wine can feel just as special as a formal tasting menu when it is made with care.
As you plan your visit, remember that eating affordably is not about choosing the cheapest option on every corner. It is about finding the places where locals trust the kitchen, the ingredients are respected, and the welcome feels genuine. Those are the meals you will remember long after the Champagne bubbles have faded.
