15 Best Restaurants in Biarritz

The culinary landscape of Biarritz is as dramatic and refined as its legendary Atlantic coastline. Once a humble whaling village, this elegant seaside town on the French Basque coast evolved into a playground for European royalty, and with that prestige came an expectation for exceptional gastronomy. Today, dining here is not merely about sustenance; it is an integral part of the local culture, blending the rustic, earthy traditions of the Basque Country with the sophisticated techniques of modern French cuisine.

Visitors often arrive expecting only fresh oysters and sea views, but the reality is far more diverse and exciting. From bustling pintxo bars in the Halles market to Michelin-starred dining rooms overlooking the ocean, Biarritz offers a spectrum of flavors that cater to every palate and budget. The unique geography of the region—nestled between the Pyrenees mountains and the sea—provides chefs with an abundance of high-quality produce, including Espelette pepper, Ibaïama pork, and line-caught tuna.

Navigating this rich food scene can be overwhelming, especially when you are trying to distinguish the timeless institutions from the fleeting tourist traps. The best restaurants in Biarritz share a common thread: a deep respect for local ingredients and an unwavering commitment to hospitality. Whether you are looking for a romantic dinner after a day of surfing at the Côte des Basques or a long, lazy lunch paired with Irouléguy wine, the city delivers with aplomb.

The influence of the sea is, of course, paramount. The local fishing fleet brings in daily catches of hake, sardines, and spider crab, which appear on menus within hours of being unloaded at the Port des Pêcheurs. However, the inland farms are just as important, supplying the region with the famous Ossau-Iraty cheese and the sweet, fiery peppers that define Basque cooking. This marriage of land and sea is the defining characteristic of the local food identity.

To truly eat well here, one must embrace the local rhythm. Meals are events meant to be savored slowly, often starting with a glass of crisp Txakoli wine and a selection of small bites. The French dining etiquette remains, but there is a relaxed, sun-kissed energy that makes even the most upscale establishments feel welcoming to travelers fresh off the beach.

We have curated a selection of the city’s most compelling dining destinations to guide you through this vibrant culinary scene. This list prioritizes flavor, atmosphere, and authenticity, ensuring that your gastronomic journey through Biarritz is as memorable as the sunsets over the Bay of Biscay.

Very friendly and quick service. The presentation of the food is very good and the atmosphere is nice! The food itself is decent, but still a tiny bit rough around the edges. The intestines of the crevettes were not removed, some of the chips (fries) were not cooked so well and the squid tentacle was a bit dry. I am not saying the food was bad, this is critique on a high level, but this is what takes a star away for me.

A really great experience at Chez BB: Bistroquet Biarritz. The hot dog and monkfish tail were delicious. We also had calamari as a starter — highly recommend it 🙂 The service was excellent, and the waiters spoke English 🫶 Definitely recommend visiting! 🇺🇦

Excellent sand quick service when ordering Moules Frite. They came pretty small but don't let the size fool you, they were delicious. Soft and delicate, moules marinière we're everything we expected. This came with fries and bread. A comment on the fries, very good! Unusual size and seasoned with paprika, would definitely come back here for this dish, or try a new one! I've been coming to Biarritz a long time and there's always been a restaurant here, don't remember if it was always Chez Bibi but we recommend a visit. Don't be in a rush, enjoy the ambiance and French food!

Only restaurant that serves food after 2:30pm. Great location. Service was super nice and was helpful to find vegetarian options.

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our lunch at Marius. We were experiencing some travel problems and the staff pushed back our booking an hour without any hesitation at all. Upon arrival a lovely lady put our suitcase and baggage away for us without any fuss. The food that followed was nothing short of perfect. We had ham and sardines to start which were both divine. Then we had tuna and pork, also very lovely. Cooked to perfection. Sides were vegetable and salad, simple and beautifully fresh. We shared il flottante for dessert, an absolutely perfect end to the meal. So light and fluffy! The surroundings of the restaurant are just stunning, surrounded by beautiful green countryside, with some horses trotting around happily in a field a few metres away from where we ate. A gorgeous experience, beautiful food- this is a must if you are in Biarritz!!

My husband & I were traveling abroad San Sebastian and others towns nearby. We had made an stop in Biarritz. We booked Marius in early advance. We were not disappointed at all. We find out that Marius dishes were delicious, we plenty fresh & cooked vegetables and great meat dishes. Desert was chocolate suffle. Delicious Country Basque Cuisine! There is a beautiful small hotel next door. Beautiful views from the Restaurant.

Absolutely wonderful!! Setting idillic. Food exceptional. Service perfect. So happy we were fortunate enough to visit!!

We visited this restaurant just 15 minutes from the center of Biarritz, and although we hadn’t heard anything about it beforehand, we quickly realized we had found something special. As soon as we arrived, we noticed almost every table had the same dish — cod with clams — so we knew we had to try it. And it did not disappoint. The flavors were incredibly refined — this is far from a typical restaurant. Each dish felt like a carefully crafted culinary experiment. Even the bread deserves special praise — simple yet exceptional. Everything we tried was delicious. The service was wonderful, warm and attentive. You truly feel like staying longer, especially with the beautiful terrace and horses quietly passing nearby. A hidden gem.

One of the best restaurants we’ve ever been too! The food was amazing, special tastes. We loved all the dishes and the dessert. The atmosphere is lovely and beautiful. The stuff were very nice and the service was great. Would definitely recommend it to people visiting biarritz

The hidden gem in Biarritz. The small restaurant with a homemade dish. Very dish are delicious. The quality and quantity are the same. The price is reasonable (cheaper than others restaurants in Biarritz)

Don’t be put off by its location, this is a wonderful couple run local restaurant. The food is beautifully cooked. I asked for just simple salad for starters and I was given beautifully dressed white asparagus, Toms and lettuce, we also had hot buttered snails. Dish of the day, mussels and chips, absolutely delicious, also had rare duck. Good local carafes of wine. Lovely friendly service
Martin Sampson★★★★★
This is an absolute gem of a restaurant in Biarritz and you absolutely must add it to your itinerary. Run by a married couple (speaking French and Spanish) they will delight you with a small but perfectly cooked menu which includes homemade desserts. The value for money you get here is second to none. I HIGHLY recommend the escargot and the duck dishes. The pistachio Panna cotta we had afterwards was an absolute treat!

Very enjoyable experience: we started with the idea to have the discovery menu (5 dishes) with the wine pairing, but shifted to the full experience of the signature menu after the first couple of dishes... Every serving is a joyful multi-sensorial tasting. A minus is the lack of a detailed menu (there is only an artistic, more descriptive, one), including the sequence of dishes and their several components, that would help to appreciate them more. Anyway, highly recommended.
Kaleena Cruz★★★★★
An incredible and memorable dining experience. I let them know in my reservation that we had one vegetarian in our party, and they happily accommodated the request. The vegetarian menu was given just as much thought as the main menu, which I appreciated! Can't wait to go back!
John Quist★★★★★
One of the most fascinating, playful and delicious dining experiences I’ve ever had. At Après Demain in Biarritz, the entire tasting menu is built around the 7 deadly sins — each dish more surprising, theatrical and bold than the last. From dramatic presentations like a wooden box smoking with anger, to a seductive take on duck for lust, or a dessert that looks like it came from a fairytale forest… every course was unexpected and full of flavour. Truly a must-visit. The chef is a legend — fearless, creative and unforgettable.

Amazing food, inventive menu and delicious wines. We were seated in the terrace which was beautiful. The staff were fantastic, very friendly and knowledgeable. Highly recommended!

Happened upon this place by accident on our way back to our hotel we were lucky enough to secure an early booking for the next evening. What a stroke of luck. One of the best dining experiences I have ever had. Lovely attentive staff, thoughtful high concept dishes but utterly delicious food balanced beautifully by an easy going ambience, excellent value.

Dinner at Marloe, located in the outskirts of the city in an austere modern building with the interior a bit more modern, expansive and cold than we expected from such a highly rated French Bistro. Luckily the food and service made up for the visual let down. The Chickpea soup, Scallops, and seafood Cannelloni were well prepared and presented.
Molly Boyd★★★★★
My sister and I went on a quick trip to Biarritz from San Sebastián and we’re recommended Marloe. We enjoyed the tasting menu with wine pairing and were beyond impressed. We loved every dish and were so satisfied with the service. We would give this 10 stars if we could!
Tim Wong★★★★★
A perfect dinner experience with great decor and atmosphere, polite service and awesome food. I had the autumn velouté soup with chestnuts and mushrooms, the chef’s signature lobster with its bisque and risotto, and the crepes suzettes (which was made from scratch and the steps explained to me). Overall definitely highly recommend, I only had 1 night’s stay in Biarritz and felt very fortunate I got to dine here! Thanks to the whole team at Marloe for a great dinner.
Eric Beydoun★★★★★
Great experience, food and service at Le Marloe Biarritz. We ordered a number of appetizers, entrees, drinks, and desserts, and were blown away by all of them. Of course I personally had to try the Xmas specialty of the moment Volail with truffle and foie gras. I've never eaten such a moist piece of chicken. The customer service was exceptional and the chefs specialty the "Omar" was bursting with flavor. A must, if you're ever in Biarritz.
Francesco★★★★★
Absolutely exceptional 👌 the greatest service and accomodation I experienced in Biarritz. Not a single dish disappointed, they were all very exciting, but the carpaccio was the most memorable. If in Biarritz, this place should be amongst your top selection.

One of the best meals I have ever had. From start to finish service and food were incredible. Highly recommend as a must in Biarritz. Stand outs for us were the tacos and duck on the bone amazing! Looking forward to trying more dishes next time. 👍🏻

This is a great place to watch the sunset while dining. The food itself was pretty good. The cod was very tasty, but one could‘ve gotten more out of the lobster pasta. Our waiter was a friendly, funny and patient. All in all, a pretty good place if you want a nice ambiance at the beach.

Friendly welcome, efficient service, tasty food, great view to the Atlantic. Thanks to the team at L'Impératrice.

Best escargot and hake we have had in France on this trip. The cocktails we had before dinner were really excellent and the sommelier made great wine suggestions for dinner. Price was very reasonable for what all we had.
C R★★☆☆☆
I ordered a salad and french fries from the menu as a main course and received the kitchen leftovers.. I had to call and ask the waiter if this was the salad, and he replied it was called “the salad of the day” when asked, bc it was looking like anything but a salad, instead it was consisting mainly out of stewed broccoli and cauliflowers (which was cut with a contaminated knife bc I could taste the shrimp out of it) hummus, and a not so fresh decorative salad leaf with cherry tomatoes on top… and the French fries? In oil soaked chunky potato wedges... The only thing nice was the ambience, now it has 2-3 hours passed since I had the dinner and my stomach is still upset. I don’t like leaving negative thoughts and reviews on the internet but as a vegetarian I felt very disappointed. So I wouldn’t recommend it if you are a strict vegan/vegetarian.

Having made the rounds of several Bouillons across Paris and Bordeaux, I can say with some authority that this one stands apart — a cut above its siblings in every culinary respect. The kitchen delivers with a confidence that the others rarely match, and the room hums with that particular energy one quietly hopes for but seldom finds. A reservation is not merely advisable — it is essential. Tables are claimed within moments of opening, and rightly so. Do not leave this to chance.
N Kbln★★★★★
We had amazing duck Confit with fries, but it was so great we forgot to take photos, and we got Mousse au chocolat, they were quite generous with portion as you can see. Atmospheres was great, amazing stuff and really tasty food! Highly recommended!

We had a great dinner at Bouillon Hortense in Biarritz. I ordered the chicken, which was incredibly juicy and full of flavor, especially with the creamy sauce — simple, comforting, and perfectly cooked. Philippe had the beef, and after tasting it I can confirm it was just as delicious and tender. The food felt classic and well-executed, exactly what you hope for in a place like Bouillon Hortense. We’d happily come back.
M de Paris★★★★★
Excellent restaurant close to the sea with great food for a very affordable price. Atmosphere : the place is located close to the casino, 1min away from the beach. We sat outside and it was lovely. Food wise : we got to try many things. The eggs with truffle, rillettes, beef tartare, fish of the day, duck confit, sausage and mash potatoes, It was all good. Price wise : very affordable for the type of food and quality served. Service wise : they were very accomodating with us, got us a table outside big enough for our group. All good. Overall it’s a total recommendation. I’ll certainly come back.

L'Entre Deux in Biarritz is a lovely refined spot. It wasn’t easy to book — I tried twice before securing our table. We shared the tasting menu for two, and every course impressed us. Great find, fully recommend!

One of the best bistro in Biarritz. Great location, warm, and tastefully decorated. The food was excellent, fresh, and well prepared. Good wine list. Well deserved a Michelin recommendation. Highly recommended dishes are: Beef Filet Mignon, Pork Filet, scallops, and Foie Gras.
Zomb Phil★★★★★
The food was creative and tasteful. The waitress very friendly. The atmosphere cosy.

This place is truly a hidden gem that mostly locals are aware of. We came here for dinner following recommendation of a local guide and had the best meal out of all the places we dined at in Biarritz. Their Discovery dinner option was a five-course meal personally curated by Le Chef and showcasing delicately delicious gaspacho, the "perfect egg" appetizer covered with a cloud of creamy-veggie foam, seared tuna soaking in zucchini-tomato bath, divinely soft duck paired with fricassée de chanterelles, and creative half-melted chocolate and milk dessert impossible to explain or describe with words. Long story short, we licked all the plates enjoing every bit of this gastro-indulgence and paid a very modest price for such a delicious treat and outstanding service. I highly recommend to check out this amazing place situated slightly off the beaten path for tourists but still in the heart of charming Biarritz.
Ole Bøe Johansen★★★★★
We had an amazing time! The food was amazing and the service was fantastic. We ordered the set menu with the house recommendations and everything worked perfectly! The "perfect egg" was actually perfect! Well worth the trip!

An excellent experience from start to finish. The tasting menu was thoughtfully designed, with creative and flavorful dishes. The service was impeccable: attentive from the very beginning, asking about any allergies and paying close attention to every detail. A restaurant I would highly recommend for anyone looking for a high-quality dining experience. As a small suggestion for improvement, I chose the fully vegetarian tasting menu, while my companion selected the vegetarian menu with fish. In our opinion, the fish portion in the latter was quite small, and we felt it could have played a more prominent role to better distinguish it from the fully vegetarian menu.
Carsten Matthäus★★★★★
My 16-year-old son and I visited Dialogues one Wednesday evening. It was a real treat. The sophistication of the dishes, the way the courses were presented, the atmosphere, the service – everything was of such a high standard that it provided the perfect end to our trip to France. We’re taking home many wonderful culinary memories. Thank you very much!

Fair to say I had the best meal of my life there! We stumbled upon this restaurant by accident and it absolutely blown us away! We had the 7 course lunch menu for 55€ and we thought the first course alone was the entire menu! 🥹 the starter came with lots of little canapés and other delicious treats. We were almost ready to go and pay when they started bring in another amazing dish after dish 😱the value for many is absolutely amazing! The ambience of the place is also great and service equally professional. I can’t stress enough how amazing this place is!

This was one of the best dîning expériences in my life. It was rather a gastronomic theater than a dinner. Expensive, but it worths the price. As they don’t serve meat (only sea food and veggies), I didn’t have this heavy feeling of overeating after compare to the majority of other set menu.

The food was absolutely stunning, really thoughtfully combined flavours and vegetables elevated to be the main star, all beautifully presented. t looks a bit intimidating from outside but the service was excellent too, really helpful and friendly waitress.

Great casual and affordable restaurant in Biarritz. We had a mixed appetizer plate of grilled peppers, calamari, ham, and croquetas, a seafood risotto, fish and chips, a beer, and a 50cl bottle of wine, all for 69 euros. The food was delicious, the service was friendly (and multilingual), and the ambiance was excellent. I'd definitely go back.

The combined platter was a nice choice, I wasn’t hungry but wanted to try the specialties of the region all in one plate: serrano ham, pimentos dal padron, accras de morue and the fried calamars. Outstanding really, i was tempted to try other dishes but unfortunately this plate was more than enough for me.

We had a lovely lunch at Le Saleya. Being a group of six people, we came last minute and could only be seated upstairs. If you want the terrace, you have to make a reservation probably the day before. The food was perfect. That was the only restaurant in our 4 days Basque country trip, that could satisfy all 6 members of our family without any wishes open (except me, the dad who had to pay the bill 😂) The staff was very polite and helpful. I would definitely come back.

The food is excellent. Each dish was well-balanced, whilst maintaining distinct and interesting textures. For €45, a three-course at that level is a great find in the heart of Biarritz. The service was relaxed and friendly yet professional and responsive. Thanks to all the team at Le Saleya.

10/10 isn’t an understatement. Le Saleya is a beast. Highly recommend. I went with the chef’s tasting menu, and it was epic from start to finish. The first course was an explosion of fresh flavors that immediately woke up my palate and set the tone for everything that followed. Over the course of the meal I had miso trout, octopus, foie gras, and veal’s head, among other dishes. Before eating here, I had always rejected both octopus and foie gras. This restaurant completely changed my mind. The difference at Le Saleya is multifold: exceptionally fresh ingredients, creative flavor pairings, and precise execution. Every dish was cooked perfectly and balanced in a way that felt thoughtful rather than overcomplicated. For an American traveling in France, this was the kind of meal that reminds you why French cuisine has the reputation it does. If you want a memorable dining experience rather than just another restaurant meal, Le Saleya absolutely delivers. After paying my bill, I told the staff they deserved a Michelin star. The response was priceless: “We don’t care about a Michelin star. We just want to see people smile.”

Food quality is excellent, with fresh ingredients and tasty combinations. They are not accustomed to having children or babies at the restaurant, so they did not have the high chair. Very positive experience overall.

We had an amazing dinner here! My husband and I had three course menu and it did not disappoint. I wish we had more time in Biarritz and would visit again!

Great value-for-money restaurant in a secondary area of town. The interior has a freshly unassuming style. The food is creative and well elaborate from high quality products, but the portions of the degustation menu are a bit too small. The service was gentle but tending to slow. With a few twists, this restaurant could become a first-class option in the area.

I just want to say the head chef who came up with the menu and whoever chose the wine, wow. We had the most creative and interesting meal of our lives and for a reasonable price. I can't imagine this level of finish is available outside of most Michelin stars. The chef is a true magician and artist. Fermenting done right. The balancing of flavours was beautiful. The raspberry dessert genuinely brought tears to our eyes. It's not often the vegetables and the dessert become the highlight for us. Coming to this restaurant is an event for the evening. Drink their wine and get the 6 course.

An absolutely amazing dinner - I think maybe the best restaurant I have ever been to. You are so lucky if you can get a reservation here. The food was unbelievable and great value - such creative and beautiful dishes (especially the beef tartare with radish sorbet). The service was wonderfully kind and friendly. You absolutely must go here if you are in Biarritz.

The best meal I had during my three-week trip in France. Even though I had good food along the trip, this restaurant is simply WOW. The presentation is amazingly beautiful and the food is excellent! Everything here is great. Thank you for your outstanding services.

The name of this restaurant is an acronym, which means fall, winter, spring, and summer because the menu changes with the seasons. Last night, I enjoyed the 6-course tasting menu (62€) and each course was as delicious as it was beautiful. Although they don't officially offer a wine pairing, they were kind enough to offer us half pours of different wines with each dish. The service was friendly, relaxed, and informative. I'll definitely return to experience a different seasonal menu.

Very good restaurant, the platters lack taste and creativity compared to similar places in the region. Overall a good experience!

Essential Tips for Dining in Biarritz

Dining out in Biarritz is a highlight of any visit, but a little local knowledge goes a long way in ensuring you get the best table and the most authentic experience. The city operates on a unique schedule that blends French dining customs with the laid-back nature of a surf town. Understanding the nuances of timing, ordering, and local etiquette will not only save you from frustration but will also elevate your appreciation of the Basque table.

1. Embrace the Lunch Menu (Formule du Midi)
If you want to experience fine dining in Biarritz without breaking the bank, book your main meal at lunchtime. Many of the city’s top-tier restaurants offer a "formule" or "menu du jour" at noon that is significantly cheaper than their evening à la carte offerings. It is the best way to taste the cuisine of a high-end chef while keeping your travel budget intact.

2. Book Ahead, Especially in Summer
Biarritz is one of the most popular resort towns on the Atlantic coast, and the best restaurants fill up days, if not weeks, in advance during July and August. Do not rely on walking in off the street for a dinner table at a reputable spot. A quick phone call or online reservation is essential to avoid disappointment.

3. Understand the Tipping Culture
While service is included in the bill by law in France, it is customary to leave a little extra for good service in Biarritz. A tip of 5% to 10% in cash, or simply rounding up the bill, is greatly appreciated by the waitstaff. It is a gesture of gratitude rather than an obligation.

4. Don’t Skip the Pintxos
While this list focuses on restaurants, the pre-dinner ritual of hopping between bars for pintxos (the Basque version of tapas) is sacred. Head to the area around Les Halles market in the early evening. Order a glass of Txakoli or local cider and point to the colorful bites on the bar. It is a cheap, social, and delicious way to start your night before heading to your dinner reservation.

5. Dress Smart Casual
Biarritz is elegant but rarely stuffy. While you can wear flip-flops to a beachside café at lunch, most restaurants expect a "smart casual" dress code for dinner. Men can get away with a collared shirt and nice jeans, while women often wear a stylish dress or chic separates. Leave the sportswear at the hotel.

6. Watch the Market Days
If your schedule allows, align your visit with a day when Les Halles is bustling. While the market is closed on Mondays, the surrounding streets come alive on weekends with producers selling cheese, charcuterie, and wine. Many restaurants feature specials based on what is freshest at the market, so the weekend menus are often the most exciting.

Exploring the restaurants of Biarritz is a journey through the heart of Basque culture. The pride local chefs take in their region is evident in every plate, from the simplest grilled sardine to the most complex gastronomic creation. By planning your meals with a bit of intention, you open the door to flavors that define this stunning corner of southwest France.

Ultimately, whether you are sitting on a terrace watching the waves crash against the lighthouse or tucked away in a cozy dining room in the old town, the food of Biarritz connects you to the landscape. It is a sensory experience that lingers long after the last bite of gâteau basque has been savored, inviting you to return to this coastal paradise again and again.
