12 Best Spas in Avignon

Nestled along the banks of the Rhône, Avignon is a city that pulses with history, art, and the vibrant rhythm of Provence. From the imposing Palais des Papes to the gentle chime of church bells, the senses are constantly engaged. Yet, for the weary traveler, this historic energy often calls for a counterbalance of deep rest and physical renewal.

Fortunately, the ancient city has long understood the value of thermal waters and therapeutic touch. Avignon and its immediate surroundings have cultivated a sophisticated wellness scene that rivals its cultural offerings. Here, the tradition of self-care is not merely an afterthought; it is woven into the local lifestyle.

Whether you have spent the day navigating cobblestone streets or driving through the lavender fields of the Luberon, your body deserves a sanctuary. The region’s spas combine Provençal ingredients—think olive oil, honey, and local herbs—with modern techniques to deliver profound relaxation. It is the perfect way to balance sightseeing with serenity.

However, choosing the right retreat can be overwhelming when options range from ancient thermal baths to sleek, modern boutique hotels. You want a place that matches your specific needs, whether that is a romantic couples treatment, a deep tissue massage, or a full day of hydrotherapy.

This curated guide cuts through the noise to bring you the most exceptional wellness addresses in the city. We have evaluated these locations based on their treatment quality, atmosphere, expertise of staff, and unique offerings to ensure you find the perfect fit.

Below, you will discover the top destinations where you can unwind, detoxify, and recharge during your stay in the heart of Provence.

Magnificent spa, I loved spending time here. We received a wonderful welcome and had the pleasure of being alone inside – pure bliss. This spa has everything you could need, and although we didn't have the chance to try the treatments, I'll definitely be back to do so someday. If you're staying at the hotel, remember to book your appointment in advance.

To celebrate our three-year anniversary with my partner, I wanted to make it special by giving him a relaxing and pampering day. It was a first for him, as he's never taken the time to enjoy a break before. Thank you to Tiffany and Stéphanie for the hour-long massage that started the day in the best possible way. Now, off to a restaurant followed by a unique activity that I hope my darling will enjoy. We'll be back (he's already confirmed it). Thanks also to the entire spa team, who have always welcomed me with kindness and hospitality.

Thank you, Lola, for this incredible experience! A wonderfully gentle Polynesian massage that helped our mom truly relax. My sister and I enjoyed the spa for an hour, which was absolutely delightful. We highly recommend this spa! Thank you again, Lola! ✨

Fantastic find! The Novotel's NovaSpa is truly amazing: hammam, sauna, flotation tank… jacuzzis. Everything is perfect for relaxing. I especially loved the salt wall, it's incredibly soothing. You leave feeling completely relaxed, I highly recommend it!
Olivia GILLY★★★★★
Passing through Avignon during the festival, the hotel parking lot was easily accessible, perfect for picking up a car without the sweltering heat. Access to the spa from the hotel is very easy to find. We discovered, as a couple, the Polynesian ritual: a scrub and mango wrap followed by a massage. Two hours of pure bliss. An exceptional physical release. I would definitely do it again. Highly recommended!

Fantastic experience at NovaSpa! The space is functional and pleasant, the pools are brand new, and the staff are attentive and welcoming. I had a wonderful time there with my mom for my birthday. We absolutely loved the sensory shower and went home feeling soothed and relaxed. We'll definitely be back! 😄

A wonderful experience at the Kokoon Spa in Le Pontet, a gift from my wife for my birthday. The setting is particularly pleasant and conducive to relaxation. The pool allows for a few laps in complete tranquility, and the massage was perfectly tailored to my needs, providing a truly enjoyable moment of well-being. The snack was also a delightful surprise, with a trompe-l'œil mango that was as beautiful as it was delicious. A successful and relaxing break that I highly recommend.

A fan of massages and relaxation areas, I won't hesitate to return. The welcome is warm without being overly formal. We were treated with great care. And what can I say about the massage... it's the best I've ever had the pleasure of experiencing. A huge thank you to Alexandra for her technique, her gentleness, and her expertise. It felt like a massage tailored just for me. The little pastry and drink after the massage were very pleasant. Thank you for this wonderful experience.

Thank you to Alexandra for this very relaxing massage 😌 it was great 👍 The cabins and common areas are very well-maintained and comfortable. The pool area is lovely. We appreciated the cool water during this heatwave. Spotless cleanliness Very friendly welcome from all the staff. The only downsides: unpleasant sewage smells and the layout of the lockers/changing rooms (it's impossible to access your locker if someone is changing).

A true discovery. I had an excellent relaxing time at the Kokoon Spa in Le Pontet. The one-hour massage was truly exceptional. Thank you, Delphine, you are wonderful and so passionate about what you do, because you do it so well. (I've been to many spas and had many massages, but I would say this is the best massage I've ever had.) 🤗 Thank you again. The pastries and chocolate bars are created by renowned pastry chefs and chocolatiers. A real treat. 😍 The reception staff are very approachable and incredibly kind. I highly recommend it if you need some time to yourself.

Yesterday, I had the immense pleasure of celebrating my daughter's birthday at Spa Cocoon in Le Pontet, and I must say it was an absolutely magical moment. The manager is a remarkable person, incredibly kind and professional. The décor of Spa Cocoon is simply enchanting: soft lighting, natural materials, a soothing atmosphere that invites relaxation. The staff, the massage therapists—everything was perfectly orchestrated. My daughter experienced a dream come true, and I highly recommend this exceptional place. A huge thank you to the entire team; you made this day an unforgettable memory.

First experience in February with the head spa: a wonderful moment in a sublime setting. The welcome was warm, the treatment incredibly gentle. Second experience today with a back and extremity massage: A magical moment full of softness. I left feeling completely relaxed! In short, it's a real treat! If you need to unwind, I highly recommend it. We'll probably run into each other there because I'll definitely be back! 😁

A must-visit! My session with Fouzia was incredibly kind and gentle. The starry sky immediately set the mood. The treatments were fabulous; you completely relaxed in the cozy, zen atmosphere. The decor is superb, and as an added bonus, we were offered a drink and some cookies while we waited for our hair to be styled and dried. In short, everything is so well thought out to make us love the experience and want to come back. Thank you, Fouzia, for this wonderful moment. See you very soon.
Laurine Mangot★★★★★
An incredible experience! I chose the 30-minute head spa, which is actually the shortest option, and it was exceptional. Fouzia's movements were incredibly gentle and fluid. Everything was perfectly executed and so relaxing. In addition to her professionalism, Fouzia is very kind and immediately puts you at ease. I will definitely be back. Thank you again!

A place that's both elegant and cozy. A warm and welcoming atmosphere throughout your stay in this beautiful space where zellige tiles and tadelakt plaster vie for attention on the walls... Hammam, scrub, and massage with argan oil: pure bliss, and to finish, a melt-in-your-mouth chicken tagine... Let yourself be carried away... you'll leave feeling 1000% revitalized. And I should add that I have no financial interest in this establishment, which I've just discovered... and I promise myself I'll be back.

I bought a gift certificate for €80 at full price in October, yet I couldn't even use the treatment. The first appointment was cancelled without explanation, and then I had to wait over three months for a new date. There was absolutely no flexibility, no customer service whatsoever: only text messages, the phone was never answered. The most shocking thing was their complete refusal to find a solution for just two days after the validity date had expired, offering only the option of paying 50% of the additional treatment cost or taking a day off work. The certificate had already been redeemed long ago. A very bad experience, with no consideration for the customer whatsoever. Their poor customer service makes it feel more like a scam than a relaxing experience. Avoid at all costs.

A truly perfect moment ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The "Dreams's Sensation" treatment is very comprehensive; everything is delightful and highly professional. I've been wanting to get it done at this salon for a while now, and I think it will be hard to find better than Pauline. I can't wait to offer it to my loved ones. Thank you again 😊

A wonderful experience! Pauline is very attentive to her clients' well-being. The treatment was both relaxing and enjoyable. Thank you so much!
Papouilles & Asmr Avignon By Leastyl'esthetique★★★★★
An absolutely exceptional moment of well-being. The head spa is of remarkable quality, combining technical expertise and gentleness in every touch. The massages provide deep relaxation, almost timeless. Everything is carefully considered: the ambiance, the welcome, the precision of the movements… You can feel genuine expertise and a sincere attention to the client. A high-end sensory experience that I recommend without hesitation.
Noëmie Combe★★★★★
I received a gift certificate to visit Pauline's salon and I will definitely be back. A warm and welcoming atmosphere. I was able to understand the cause of the minor skin issues on my scalp thanks to her camera, and she gave me lots of advice on how to treat them. During the massage, I was completely immersed in relaxation. The pressure during the massage was perfect. I will be back to pamper myself. Thank you, Pauline, for your professionalism! ✨

We had a wonderful 2 person’ Lumière sur le Corps experience. The hammam, scrub and massage were all excellent, and the Halima was incredibly kind and welcoming. We left feeling completely relaxed and would highly recommend L’Hivernage! A special thank you to Halima for her help with our booking and for accommodating us despite the language barrier. Would highly recommend this spot!
Rosy Xie★★★★★
I had a truly wonderful experience at L'Hivernage. When I first called the shop from my US phone number, Halima promptly reached out to me via WhatsApp. She was able to accommodate my requested appointment time with just one day’s notice and personally welcomed me when I arrived. This was my first Hammam experience, and I was both excited and a bit nervous. Despite I cannot speak French, Halima went out of her way to communicate clearly and made me feel extremely welcome and comfortable. The scrub and the hot room were incredible, and the massage afterward was so relaxing that I drifted into the sweetest dreams. After traveling solo internationally for over a week and feeling quite exhausted, my visit to L'Hivernage was exactly what I needed. I slept for 12 hours afterward and woke up feeling completely refreshed and recharged. If you’re visiting town, don’t miss this hidden gem! It’s truly amazing, and I’ll be recommending it to all my friends and family for their future visits as well.

Night at the end of March 2026, the service was completely inadequate and the advertising bordered on false: - The sauna door didn't close (unusable) - The welcome drinks were forgotten - The abundance of Nespresso capsules (promised on the website) was reduced to four small, low-quality capsules - No duvet or blanket, just a sheet... Those who are sensitive to the cold and crave comfort should avoid this place. - A nauseating smell. And on top of everything, even after informing the owners: no empathy, no attempt at compensation. In short, a disaster to be avoided at all costs.
Bibigou★★★★★
Everything was perfect. We appreciated the charm and elegance of the place. Everything is conducive to a pleasant stay for two. The only downside: limited parking nearby, but there are car parks not far away. Once settled in, the city of Avignon unfolds before us. We'd love to come back!
dorian Salinas★★★★★
A wonderful stay in a very cozy setting, ideal for disconnecting. The facilities are top-notch: special mention goes to the jacuzzi and hammam, which are perfect. I really appreciated the blackout curtain that effectively separates the sleeping area. One small drawback, however: the large bay windows give the impression of being overlooked, even though this isn't actually the case. Adding curtains in this area, as with the sleeping area, would make the space even more private. This won't stop me from happily returning!
El Bobo★★★★★
I highly recommend this accommodation as it is truly magnificent and very well-equipped. If you want to spend a pleasant and relaxing time, this is the place to choose. The owner is very kind, attentive, and responsive to the tenant's needs. Thank you again, and see you very soon!

Our family, which includes children, had a wonderful time at this beautiful hotel. The hotel has a luxurious feel in an absolutely stunning setting. The rooms are well designed and appointed and very clean. We were in suites to accommodate our large number and they were great. The bathrooms are very large and nice - with jacuzzi tubs and great showers. The grounds are overflowing the flowers and cozy spots for sitting and there are both indoor and outdoor pools for swimming, as well as games and ping pong. There is a small, but well-appointed gym and a small spa that we didn’t have time to take advantage of. Parking was a breeze. Every one of the staff members we encountered was so friendly and helpful and kind, from the bellman to the front desk to the restaurant. Even in this massive heatwave, the rooms stayed adequately cool. All in all, this was good value for a hotel in this area in summer. We ate dinner in the restaurant and it had wonderful service from the wait staff. The food was good and in the typical French style with it drawn out and taking some time. We had a beautiful table in the garden under a gazebo, but the flies and mosquitos were very, very bothersome (in June) though the restaurant did offer us bug spray right away, which we did use, as we were getting bitten! The food was good and the staff could not have been friendlier - they were wonderful!
Julianna Purcell★★★★★
Beautiful hotel and complex. Fosters a tranquil environment of peace through the beautifully manicured premises from the beautiful flowers throughout to the sweet scents that abound the lobby area. The pool is perfect for summer with Provance-esque hedgerows surrounding. The poolside drinks were superb. Perhaps... the culmination of this stay was the Michlin Restaurant. Superb service in a beautiful outdoor atrium environment with excellent food that cannot be beat. A truly wonderful experience.

We had a wonderful time at Auberge de Cassagne. The room, service, and food was all wonderful. They kindly brought some sweets for our anniversary and were extremely attentive to every need. The food was superb. The staff was professional, accommodating, and thoughtful. The property is a private complex in the middle of a residential neighborhood. It was the perfect base for travel into Avignon, Arles, and St. Remy.

Incredible on all fronts. What may have been my best meal yet, certainly top 10! On a "small world" note, was enjoying a great cocktail at Le Rose Bar - Hôtel le Pigonnet • Aix en Provence and my server asked where we were staying...when I told him we had 4 wonderful days at Auberge de Cassagne & Spa, he (Thomas Villareal) said he started his career there and wanted me to expressly give his blessings to Sylvie Boucher (the owner of Auberge) who he said treated him very well as he was learning the ropes of the service industry. #leadership

If you were thinking of staying here cause it says 4 stars, then stay way. This place is more akin to a best western / Ramada at best. We visited the hotel as part of a tour group. It's clear that the hotel is not operated at a level of quality I'd expect. Our rooms were very small with awkward placements of the bed and furniture. We had enough room to open exactly 1 luggage at a time. The furnishing and lights look fancy but they are only surface level, looking a bit closer you can see mold everywhere. And then there was room service -- or in other words lack of... We put up the tag requesting our room be cleaned and left a tip on the table for the service -- then left for the entire day. After we came back we still had our towels on the floor and the beds were still messy. Our family had a total of 3 rooms. 2 of the rooms had an okay view. The third room's window looked straight at a restaurant with clear view of what was happening in the room. WiFi.. is bad. I ended up using my data plan instead since it cut out so much. The breakfast is decent. It had a mix of fruits and bread (the chocolate croissant was good). But the expected level was not there.. I hope the quality of this place can improve over time. This was a very disappointing visit, and it definitely felt like we weren't welcome here.

Flawless stay — ideal for exploring Provence This hotel ticked every box. The room was immaculate and comfortable, the spa and pool were a wonderful way to recharge after full days out, and breakfast was a great start each morning. What really sets it apart is the location — right by the TGV station, making day trips around the south of France incredibly convenient. Add in genuinely friendly staff and excellent value for money, and you have a hotel that’s hard to fault. Would stay again without hesitation. Highly recommended!
Bob Lee★★★★★
I'll extract 2 comments from emails I received from the hotel regarding my booking and my request to use the Spa. From the reservation team 1) Furthermore, regarding the spa, I invite you to contact them to reserve your appointments as soon as possible. From the Spa Team 2) Thank you for your message and for your interest in our spa facilities. Unfortunately, the spa will be exceptionally closed for maintenance works throughout the entire week. Annoying as we were looking forward to using the facilities. We pointed this out during check in and cannot compliment enough how well our issue was handled. Apart from this, everything about our short stay was very nice indeed.
Cody Williams★★★★☆
Your property needs bell attendants, or guest services attendants to help take luggage to and from our rooms. It would also be nice to have a sandwich of some type offered in your restaurant. There were no English language TV stations offered. There were German and Asian but not others.
Jiaqi Zhang★★★★☆
We chose this hotel because it’s new and we trusted the Accor brand, but the experience was very disappointing. Our first room 114 faced the main road, and the traffic noise at night was unbearable. The windows are not soundproof, so we couldn’t sleep properly. Around 11pm, we called the front desk, but they said it was the first time hearing about noise and refused to change our room with unprofessional attitude. Only on the second day did they move us to room 105, which faced the pool and was much quieter.

Tips for Choosing the Right Spa in Avignon

To ensure your wellness experience is as seamless as it is relaxing, there are a few local nuances and practical details you should consider before booking. Avignon’s spa culture ranges from historical public baths to private luxury hotels, and understanding these differences will help you align your expectations with reality. Whether you are a solo traveler looking for quiet meditation or a couple seeking a shared journey, these practical tips will guide you to the right door and help you navigate the local etiquette with confidence.

Book in advance, especially during the Festival. If you are visiting in July during the Festival d’Avignon, spa slots fill up weeks ahead. Securing your reservation online before you arrive is essential to avoid disappointment.

Understand the difference between a Spa and a Thermal Center. Avignon is close to traditional medical thermal spas, but many city locations are "wellness spas" focused on relaxation rather than medical treatment. If you need therapeutic hydrotherapy for a specific ailment, verify the facility’s credentials first.

Check for hotel guest priority. Many of the highest-rated spas are located within luxury hotels, such as those near the Palais des Papes. While they accept outside guests, hotel residents often get priority booking times, so call ahead to confirm availability for non-residents.

Embrace Provençal ingredients. Look for treatments that utilize local products like olive oil from Les Baux, lavender from Sault, or grape extracts from Châteauneuf-du-Pape. These offer a unique regional touch that you won’t find in standard chain hotel spas.

Ask about the "Espace Détente." In France, access to the relaxation area (sauna, hammam, jacuzzi) is often separate from the massage price. When comparing prices, ask if the "Espace Détente" is included in the cost of your treatment or if it requires a supplementary fee.

Communicate your preferences. While many therapists speak English, learning a few French words like "plus doux" (softer) or "plus fort" (stronger) can significantly improve your massage experience. Don’t hesitate to indicate your pressure preference before the session begins.

Finding a moment of stillness in a city so rich with history is a true luxury. Whether you choose a subterranean vaulted spa in a historic building or a sun-drenched pool overlooking the Rhône, the act of slowing down allows you to appreciate the beauty of Avignon on a deeper level. The French concept of bien-être—well-being—is taken seriously here, and allowing yourself a few hours of pampering is not an indulgence but a necessary part of the Provençal experience.

After your treatment, take your time re-emerging into the city. Enjoy a quiet glass of Côtes du Rhône at a nearby café and let the calm carry you through the rest of your evening. Your body and mind will thank you for taking the time to rest, ensuring that your memories of Avignon are not just of its sights, but of how wonderfully you felt while visiting them.
