Finding a reliable pharmacy in Avignon is about more than just filling a prescription. Whether you are a resident navigating the winding streets of the intra-muros area or a traveler who has run out of essential medication, access to accurate pharmaceutical advice is crucial. In France, pharmacies are highly regulated and serve as the first point of contact for many health concerns, offering expert guidance that goes far beyond simply dispensing pills.
The French pharmacy experience differs significantly from what many international visitors might expect. You will find that these establishments are not just retail spaces but centers of medical consultation, where trained professionals can assess minor ailments, recommend appropriate over-the-counter treatments, and advise on general wellness. In a city like Avignon, with its mix of ancient architecture and modern living, pharmacies balance tradition with cutting-edge healthcare.
Choosing the right pharmacy often depends on your specific needs, such as extended opening hours, homeopathic expertise, or specialized dermatological products. While many pharmacies are scattered throughout the city center and the surrounding neighborhoods, not all offer the same level of service or stock the same specialized items. Knowing where to go for a specific need can save you significant time and stress, especially if you are dealing with a health issue.
For tourists exploring the Palais des Papes or the Pont d’Avignon, convenience is usually the top priority. You need a pharmacy that is centrally located, perhaps one that speaks English and can handle the nuances of foreign prescriptions. For locals, the priority might be a neighborhood pharmacy that knows their family history and offers personalized care, or one that stocks a specific brand of natural supplements.
This guide aims to simplify that search by highlighting the most reputable and accessible pharmacies in Avignon. We have considered factors such as location, customer service reputation, range of products, and the specific expertise of the pharmacists on staff. The goal is to provide you with a practical resource that ensures you receive the best possible care while in the historic capital of the Vaucluse.
Below, you will find a curated list of the best options available in the city, followed by practical advice on how to navigate the French pharmacy system effectively.

Between my knowledge of French and the lovely woman in the pharmacy with her English, I was successful in getting cough medicine and throat lozenges.
Many thanks to the lovely woman who assisted me.

Could not get them to acknowledge receipt of my prescription, either via the email address they point you to, or via the website that they ask you to set up an account with. Total failure and rude to boot. Avoid this place and use Saint Agricol instead.

I was looking for a behind the counter medicine and the pharmacist quickly and kindly helped in English. This place also has a huge beauty and skincare selection! Great prices and offers and I received 3 free gift.

Guilliaum and his colleagues rescued my vacation. I am an American tourist in Avignon experiencing an asthma flare. I went to the pharmacy to obtain replacement rentals for my nebulizer and O2 concentrator because both of them stopped working. In addition, I did not speak French. Guilliaum was patient, kind, and professional in helping me to rent and operate a nebulizer. He also helped to search for an O2 concentrator with other vendors, after the rental through his pharmacy proved impossible.
He rescued my vacation and for that I am very grateful. I recommend their services enthusiastically!

We needed Covid tests 1 day before our flight back to the USA. (USA still required negative test for entry as of 5/22/22. This Pharmacie in Avignon, FR is approved by the government so we went as soon as they opened. Unfortunately, testing didn’t start until 9:00am and we had a 10:40 TGV train to Paris. We explained our urgency and the pharmacist made an exception. I forgot the pharmacist’s name but want to thank her for helping us on a Monday morning! You can get tested at CDG but our timeframe was tight. Also keep in mind the airport can be very busy including the pharmacies. At CDG I saw several frantic tourists trying to find a pharmacie for Covid testing.

Fantastic pharmacy for English speakers visiting Avignon! I came down with a nasty case of bronchitis on my trip. I managed to see a doctor online, and he prescribed some medicines. After trying for several hours and completely failing to even get my prescription acknowledged at a larger pharmacy in town, I tried Saint Agricol and they filled the prescription on the spot in a matter of minutes. This is the place to go!

Wonderful pharmacy that can handle international visitors with ease. I was so thankful that they spoke English, and so helpful. I needed to get a French Health Pass, and they made it so seamless and convenient. I saw a man in there to get a covid test, and noticed that they had him go sit in a cushioned chair for the test; it struck me that they went out of their way to make the test process as comfortable as possible.

Staff is very friendly but prices are high and you often have to wait a long time.
One plus is that it is a human size pharmacy. Not a supermarket like most are now
now. So if you need advice it is a better choice.

We waited almost three weeks without getting a response from the French government with our French version of a COVID certificate. We had heard that you could get them here in France at pharmacy once you arrived.
So we arrived today in Avignon and went to this pharmacy which was just around the block from our hotel.
What great people here who submitted the paperwork for us and printed off two COVID certificates for us at no charge. They saved our day and we are good to go for our two week vacation.
They also have a great selection of natural and traditional remedies in a very clean store.
Brian Maither★★★★★
After being declined a covid pass at over a dozen pharmacies in Lyon and Cannes, these folks made it happen for me with my Canadian vaccination information - and no charge. I would have been totally happy to pay, so much trouble saved, don't know why all of the others do not participate. Sooooooo helpful, and everyone wins. Oh yes, and they do all the other pharmacy type things too 😉

Karine Sinadoucaoudin★☆☆☆☆
I am disappointed with my experience.
I am being treated by a dermatologist via teleconsultation for isotretinoin, and I was refused my prescription because I didn't have my patient record booklet, despite presenting the documents usually provided by my doctor.
What is particularly problematic is the lack of consistency within the team: some staff members have dispensed the medication to me with the same documents, while today it was refused. It would be desirable for the rules to be the same for everyone to avoid putting patients in difficult situations. I think it would be important for the team to meet so that everyone applies the same rules and procedures.
Furthermore, I was asked for blood test results, even though it is a personal document, only to be refused my medication. This situation is all the more incomprehensible as no suitable solution was offered to me.
As a loyal customer for over 15 years, I find it regrettable to encounter this type of situation. Fortunately, there are still pharmacies that understand it's 2026, that teleconsultations are increasingly common, and that demonstrate understanding and flexibility regarding this type of medical follow-up.
I will not be returning.
MED VTC★☆☆☆☆
This pharmacy was a huge disappointment. The saleswoman, in her fifties and lacking in professionalism, couldn't even properly count the boxes of medication she was supposed to dispense, and her sarcastic tone bordered on contempt. I do not recommend this pharmacy.
Adeline Cannaud★☆☆☆☆
I really do not recommend this pharmacy. There's very little choice and, most importantly, the staff are extremely unpleasant, incompetent, and don't help customers when a product isn't in stock.
Florence Debonne★★★☆☆
Good pharmacy, pleasant staff, it's a shame they don't recommend products without going through the labs which have exorbitant prices.
Daniel *B (Dan-Dan13)★★★★★
I wanted to thank the whole team, because I went through some difficult times and there is kindness, as well as attractive prices in this pharmacy which I recommend.

The lady and gentleman, both in their fifties, are friendly and business-minded. The young brunette, however, is very unpleasant and couldn't care less about the customers. A shame for a neighborhood pharmacy.
Michel Degrandis★☆☆☆☆
The worst pharmacy in the neighborhood. The staff is unfriendly and unprofessional, even towards regular customers. I'm switching to another pharmacy, and there are plenty of others. The only positive is the young woman. 👍
Jade Franco-Ehrmann★★★★★
The pharmacist was very welcoming. I had come to get my PCR test done. I was a little apprehensive, but fortunately, the pharmacist was very understanding and gentle; I hardly felt a thing. Moreover, she was very accommodating, allowing me to get tested urgently so I could see my family.
Marine Jeangeorges (Mindfultrotter)★☆☆☆☆
This pharmacy charges exorbitant prices! We went there for non-reimbursed vaccines, trusting them, and ended up paying twice the price charged by their competitors. They offered no compensation whatsoever, and when we tried to understand the discrepancy, we were treated very rudely and the pharmacist brushed us off!

Having recently moved to Vedene, I only go to this pharmacy, which was recommended to me by friends and family, because I have several health issues. Sometimes I'm served by very kind and pleasant people, but the woman I see most often (blonde highlights, gold hexagonal glasses, and today coral nail polish) is so unpleasant. Not a hello, not a smile, not at all friendly. Once, she even complained because I had too many prescriptions and she had to go on break. I don't know if she thinks it's fun to have so many prescriptions and therefore so many health problems, but I don't come here for pleasure, you know, and yet I always manage to smile! Today, I came with all the necessary documents for my treatment (official documents signed by my endocrinologist), and she questioned their authenticity. Next time, it doesn't matter if my number is on her counter; I will refuse to be served by this person! You should pay her for her smile and friendliness; you'd save a lot of money! Frankly, I find it unacceptable for healthcare staff to have such an attitude! We don't come here to shop, but for real health problems that sometimes debilitate us, and it's certainly not for pleasure. While the rest of the staff I dealt with were truly excellent, she really tarnishes the image of the pharmacy and the overall experience. It's a shame because, in the end, since I had more opportunities to be served by this woman than by others, it's the negative aspects that stick with me.
bélé montoya★★★★★
I deliberately go out of my way to come to this pharmacy even though there are others closer to home. The reason: Sandra.
I don't know her personally, but her warm welcome, her smile, her professionalism, and the quality of her advice make all the difference. She's a true ray of sunshine who inspires confidence.
Thank you, Sandra, for your kindness and dedication every day.

Chris Lassiaz★☆☆☆☆
Small, very noisy pharmacy. During my visit, there was an argument at the register, which created an unpleasant atmosphere. So I left immediately without buying anything. I finally found what I was looking for at the Marcatand pharmacy.
N Melh★☆☆☆☆
I am very disappointed with my experience at this pharmacy. An employee made judgmental comments about me and behaved in a way that I found disrespectful and unprofessional.
She claimed, in particular, that I had taken her picture, which is completely false. Faced with this accusation, I asked a manager, who came to serve me and calm her down, to check the security camera footage. Fortunately, this gentleman intervened to defuse the situation and asked her to return to her post.
What shocked me most was that this woman—I won't mention her name to avoid public embarrassment—seemed more interested in arguing and imposing her point of view than in welcoming and advising customers professionally. A pharmacy should be a place of listening, respect, and confidentiality, not a place where customers feel judged or uncomfortable.
From what I've seen, this type of behavior unfortunately doesn't seem to be an isolated incident. I therefore urge management to be vigilant so that all customers are welcomed with the respect they deserve.

This is my favorite pharmacy; I go there whenever I need something, always with complete confidence. The service is impeccable: a warm welcome, attentive listening, and consistently sound advice. You can feel a genuine respect for the customer here.
The team is simply remarkable. The pharmacists are incredibly kind, highly professional, and always ready to help with compassion and patience. A special thank you to Anna, who often helps me personally—she is charming, thoughtful, and genuinely kind.
The two gentlemen on the team are also very courteous, available, and always ready to assist. What I appreciate just as much is that every single member of staff takes the time to listen to you, understand your needs, and support you with warmth and respect.
Another significant advantage: the pharmacy is ideally located, right next to the Leclerc supermarket, making it very convenient for everyday use.
You feel confident here: if a product is out of stock, it is ordered immediately, with clear instructions on when it will be available for pickup.
I have rarely seen such a level of service and dedication in France. A passionate, caring, and highly professional team.
I wholeheartedly recommend this pharmacy. Thank you to the entire team – you are fantastic!

Practical Tips for Navigating Pharmacies in Avignon
Understanding the nuances of the French pharmaceutical system can greatly enhance your experience and ensure you receive the correct care without unnecessary delays or costs. Whether you are dealing with a minor emergency or simply need to restock a daily supplement, approaching the counter with a bit of local knowledge goes a long way. Here are some essential tips to keep in mind when visiting a pharmacy in Avignon.
Look for the Green Cross
In France, pharmacies are identified by a distinctive neon green cross, usually flashing or illuminated. Unlike in some countries where drugstores sell groceries and cosmetics alongside medication, a French pharmacie is exclusively dedicated to health and beauty products. If you need aspirin, bandages, or baby formula, this is the only legal place to purchase them.
Understand the "Garde" System
Pharmacies in France operate on a rotating schedule for nights, Sundays, and public holidays. If you need medication outside of standard hours (usually 9 AM to 7 PM), you must find the pharmacie de garde. The local police station, local newspapers, or the website Service-Public.fr can usually direct you to the on-duty pharmacy in Avignon. Do not expect to simply walk into any store late at night.
Bring Your Prescription Details
If you are a tourist, bring your original prescription and, ideally, a letter from your doctor stating your diagnosis and the generic name of the medication. While French pharmacists are highly trained, they cannot legally substitute a foreign brand name without understanding the active ingredient. Having the generic name (INN) ensures they can provide the correct equivalent if your specific brand is not available in France.
Don’t Hesitate to Ask for Advice
French pharmacists are trained to diagnose minor conditions like colds, allergies, or mild skin irritations. Rather than going to a doctor for a simple issue, you can describe your symptoms directly to the pharmacist. They are legally empowered to recommend and dispense appropriate over-the-counter treatments, saving you the cost and wait time of a general practitioner visit.
Check for "Parapharmacie" Sections
If you are looking for high-end skincare, sunblock, or specialty baby products, look for a pharmacy with a large parapharmacie section. These areas are dedicated to non-medicinal health and beauty products. French pharmacies are famous for carrying some of the best dermatological brands in the world, often at prices lower than department stores.
Finding the right pharmacy in Avignon ensures that your stay or daily life in this beautiful city remains comfortable and healthy. The professionals working behind these counters are dedicated to public health and are often multilingual, especially in tourist-heavy areas. Whether you need urgent care or simply a recommendation for the best local sunscreen to combat the Provençal sun, you are in capable hands. Take the time to locate the pharmacy nearest to your accommodation upon arrival, so you are prepared for any eventuality during your time in the City of the Popes.
