I would not recommend unless you have to. Dirty supermarket inside and outside. Lots of people sitting outside the supermarket drinking alcohol, not safe !!

Long hours, with wide selection of everything.

We were staying in Avignon for a few days. Shopped for beer, wine and liquor. Also picked up a few small souvenirs to take home. Store was clean and well-stocked. Not a massive selection, but it’s a tiny store. Our French is terrible, but the cashier was efficient and smiled.
IamMusavaRibica★★★★★
A large selection of various products organized nicely on shelves, it was not difficult to find anything specific, there is a lot of food to choose from. The cashier was also nice and fast, we didn't wait a lot to pay. Some reviews mention dirty and empty shelves, I haven't seen anything like that. This is definitely one of the best accessible grocery stores in this area. They even provide a public microwave (see photos)
Ka Zh★★☆☆☆
They should be closing at 10:00pm but yesterday we just walked in at 9:51pm and there was a man stopped us looking around and rushing us to pay right away, it makes sense that he needs to do cleaning so he can get off work on time but it’s not fair for customers! You should follow store closing hours, OR, you should be changing your store hours to 9:50pm instead of 10pm….it’s a good store with great selections but we don’t have not a good experience here

Great place for getting your groceries and more - this place is like Target of America, huge place and good price.

I don't usually shop at Leclerc. But I am glad I did today. This in-town supermarket is conveniently located, nearby the old city. It offers a wide choice of produces that are reasonably priced. The bakery displays many different types of breads and pastries.
What I truly appreciate most is the staff dedication to service. At the till or at the fruits and veggies corner, you deal with pleasant and efficient professionals.
For the shoppers in hurry, there is a pool of automated tills where there is no waiting line.
Adding to these positive comments, I have to mention that there is plenty of space to park your car, motorbike or bicycle, which is really convenient in a residential area.
Well, I will go back to buy more.

Much better than Lidl nearby which is so chaotic and has one very rude cashier. 🙄

I had a very disappointing experience at Carrefour Avignon. The store was noticeably dirty, with cluttered aisles and a general lack of cleanliness. Even worse, there was water leaking from the ceiling in some areas, which not only looked unsafe but also made walking around uncomfortable.
The staff were unhelpful and quite rude when approached for assistance, which added to the overall unpleasant atmosphere. For such a large retailer, I expected a much higher standard of hygiene and customer service. Definitely not a place I’d want to shop at again anytime soon.
Wilder Foerster★☆☆☆☆
Weird arrangement of product along aisles - first offers and gardening appliances, then electronics and apparel, then meat and fish with pastries. Difficult to find specific products compared to other Carrefour markets. Very rude cashier not returning the correct amount of change. Our amount due was 77.33, we gave 100.34, but were returned less euros than that. When told so, the cashier refused to give out the remaining money owed. After a lengthy and uncomfortable discussion, we received the money and some rude comments
Carrefour is within a little shoping center, lots of dubious and seemingly homeless men lurking around, at the entrance a few beggars. Felt weird and not safe. Adjoining Carrefour gas station looked derelict with smashed in windows at the cashier, bent poles and paint peeling off the station. Parking lot full of debris and looked derelict.

I had the pleasure of being interrogated by a cashier because she wanted to know what I had in my bags( I was in Lidl prior to this and bought items) Apparently my explanation was not enough. She had to make a fuss and call over several of her colleagues. Thank goodness for receipts and lidl carrying their own brands. Otherwise, I'd be locked up for grocery theft.
Martyn★★☆☆☆
Well-stocked with a wide range of produce, large parking area, convenient to the main road. However, the culture shock was that it appeared quite normal for the checkout personnel to wait while the locals suddenly remembered they'd forgotten something during the checkout process. No rush to fetch the missing items and the checkout operator just waited patiently. Evidently standard practise as I noticed the same was occurring at the other checkouts.
This happened twice whilst I was only 3rd in the queue. Many payments also appear to be made by foid vouchers, which need checking and whilst neither of the two customers in front of me had large baskets, I waited 25 minutes in the queue. All that can be said is that I was the "foreigner" in this quarter of largely French colonial immigrants and when in Rome, one must do as the Romans.

Auchan Hypermarché Avignon Sud Mistral 7 is a great store if you’re vacating in the Avignon area, they had a great selection of everything really , a one stop shop really . We went in for a couple of items , left with half a large trolly .
The staff were very friendly, I had to get their help a few times at the self checkouts . As I wasn’t a French speaking customer. So a big thanks to the staff at Auchan Hypermarché Avignon Sud Mistral 7 .
The carparks are so big around the site . So you’re guaranteed to find a space . Just remember where you’ve left the car there all numbered

The Auchan Hypermarché Avignon Nord Le Pontet For me it’s a great store even though we only had 30 minutes to do our shopping has it closes at 12:30 on a Sunday . We did grab 10 items of clothing which were a bargain . The store was very clean the staff were great towards me as a tourist my French is very limited which can make things difficult, but a big thumbs up to the staff . I can’t comment on the rest of the store as only visited the clothing department . We shall be back in a few days to go right through the place .Overall a great visit be it a short visit .

Terrible experience at the entrance of this store.
While getting in to the store I was stopped by a security guard who asked to look inside of my bag and lock my bag, once I asked why I was told that it was due to high terrorist activity.
This is completely acceptable, however, what it is not acceptable is the fact I was the only person who was stopped, other white people with bags were not stopped. Their answer was that they were women and therefore in their logic, women do not steal and are not terrorists.
This was 100% racially motivated regardless of what these people say.
I asked for a complaint book and it was not given to me.
I asked to speak with the manager and I was told today it was a very special day for the store and the manager was not available.
I will be pursuing this further, this type of discrimination is not acceptable.

I absolutely love this place. It has everything. I even bought a perfect jean jacket for 20 euros! I buy great food gifts for the family at Auchan. It is my go to when I get to Avignon.

I saw the place absolutely stinks like fish. Secondly the security guard here is absolutely absurd. There was a gate that was open so my mom and I walked through the gate and got a basket and he chased us down and forced us to leave the store. Take everything out of our basket to re-enter in another place. Can you imagine? They actually hate you here. They hate customers. They clearly hate their lives and their jobs and they find a petty little reason to act like a dictator what a sad existence.

How to Choose the Right Supermarket in Avignon
Not every store fits every shopping mission. To get the most out of your budget and time, it helps to match the store to your specific needs. Whether you are hunting for the cheapest staples or the freshest local goat cheese, these practical strategies will help you shop smarter.
Match the store to your mission. Use large hypermarkets on the outskirts for big weekly shops where you need bulk items, cleaning supplies, and a wide variety. Reserve the smaller city-center stores for daily fresh bread, fruit, or a quick dinner ingredient to avoid paying premium prices for pantry staples.
Understand the French "Drive" system. Many large supermarkets in Avignon offer a "Drive" service where you order online and collect your groceries without leaving your car. This is an excellent time-saver for families or those with busy schedules, though it usually requires a car to access the pickup points outside the city center.
Look for regional Provençal products. To experience the local cuisine, check the aisles for regional labels. Look for "AOC" or "IGP" markers on items like honey from Provence, rice from Camargue, or tapenade. Larger stores often have a dedicated "Produits Régionaux" section that offers high quality at lower prices than tourist shops.
Consider the parking and accessibility. If you are driving, navigating the narrow streets of the historic center can be stressful. The large retail zones in areas like Mistral 7 or Cap Sud offer free parking, making them much more practical for heavy loads than trying to find a spot near the ramparts.
Don’t ignore the in-store bakeries and deli counters. The quality of a supermarket’s fresh counters can vary wildly. Look for stores with an in-house bakery that bakes bread throughout the day and a deli counter that stocks local cheeses and saucisson. These services often rival dedicated artisan shops for quality at a fraction of the price.
Check the seasonal produce sections. Avignon is surrounded by some of the best farmland in France. A high-quality supermarket will have a strong rotation of local, seasonal produce. Shopping for fruits and vegetables in season not only tastes better but is significantly cheaper and supports the local agricultural economy.
Shopping for groceries in Avignon offers a unique opportunity to blend the convenience of modern retail with the rich culinary heritage of Provence. By knowing where the locals go for their weekly hauls versus their daily baguettes, you can eat exceptionally well without overspending.
Whether you are preparing a simple picnic for the Pont d’Avignon or cooking a full Provençal feast, the right supermarket will have you covered. Bon appétit!
