Yes, there are lockers to store your backpack, and a storage rack that locks your bag up, in the entrance to the gift shop. The museum is lovely. Certainly visit it if you’re in town. It’s a nice collection of Landscape paintings of the local area, a little bit of modern art, some modern photos, some old furniture, and a little bit of religious art. I enjoyed it.

The tickets doesn't cost a lot like the two castles near Fussen, and we enjoyed this castle way better. This place has long ancient history based on the geographic location of Annecy. It's well maintained and illustrated. Standing there, feeling the history happened in the room, there was no pretentious. It was an experience that we didn't expect before we walked in.

Really beautiful castle, well preserved. I was there over Easter weekend, and since it was the first Sunday of the month, entrance was free. The exhibitions inside are truly interesting; absolutely recommended if you're visiting Annecy!

Excellent contemporary floor - keep climbing the stairs - it's worth it. There is a wild funny video that greets you. There are also some giant story telling photos that combine reality and fiction (pre AI I believe.) To make it more fun they have magnetic puzzles of those images that you can play around with. Breugel's Massacre of the Innocents was in a temporary exhibit on the 2nd floor when I visited. Seeing it was thrilling! The stairs are very challenging however and the space is not handicap accessible. If you find this helpful please like and follow.

I visited Carrefour Chambéry Chamnord and overall it feels like a regular large Carrefour at first. The store is spacious, well lit and the aisles were quite easy to walk through. 🛒 What I really liked was the international section with “Produits du Monde”. There are products from different countries, such as Japan, Korea, Spain, Portugal and more. 🌍 The shelves looked well organized, and the flags above the aisles make this area easy to find and also nicer to browse. You can tell that some effort went into this part of the store. There are a few really interesting products, especially if you enjoy trying snacks, sauces or ingredients from other countries. 🍜🍪 Apart from that, it is still a normal big supermarket, but the international corner makes the shopping experience more enjoyable and a bit more interesting. My overall impression was positive.

After wandering through the bustling streets of the Old Town, the gardens provide a refreshing, tranquil contrast, perfectly situated between the charm of the Old Town and the sparkling shores of the lake. The lush greenery and expansive lawns make it a fantastic spot for a leisurely stroll. We found it to be the perfect place for a relaxed lunch. We spent a wonderful afternoon enjoying a meal beneath the canopy of a huge, ancient tree, which provided lovely shade and a peaceful atmosphere. What makes the park even more enjoyable is how well-maintained it is: Cleanliness: You will find bins located throughout the park, making it easy to keep the area pristine. Convenience: There is plenty of access to public restrooms, which is a huge plus when you are out exploring for the day.

The park itself has nothing special, but the view of the lake surrounded by mountains is truly beautiful. One point worth mentioning is that there is a pier here from which boats depart for short cruises on the lake. Unfortunately, during the tourist season, it becomes incredibly crowded. Not only is it impossible to find a bench to sit on, but you can't even find a spot to lie down on the grass... so it might be a good idea to visit it outside the tourist season

This is a lovely park right between the old town and the lake. It is large with a range of options from shady treed areas to open spaces. There is a kids playground that is fenced off. You are right by the lake with plenty of water sport options available. A nice place to eat lunch, exercise or just relax.

We absolutely loved our trip to Annecy! I highly recommend taking a leisurely stroll along the waterfront and exploring this charming park. The views of Lake Annecy and the surrounding mountains are absolutely stunning, and the gardens themselves are beautifully maintained and wonderfully inviting. It’s the perfect spot to relax and soak in the natural beauty of this picturesque French town.

This church is absolutely stunning! Are you curious if it's worth a visit? Totally! I mean, what else can you do in Annecy? Plus, the breeze adds an extra thrill! It's a bit of a climb, but think of it as a fantastic workout after savoring a delicious meal downstairs

Beautiful solemn basilica that honors Jesus Christ and the stories of St. Jane Chantal and St. Francis de Sales.

Very nice church with beautiful modern stained glass windows. The staff was wonderful and they had a nice collection of candles. The view from the hill is very beautiful as well.
Chris Dreisch★★★★★
Walked all the way around the basilica until we reached it. Awe inspiring. It’s a newer church, but the craftsmanship of the church itself is nice. Inside the church is magical all it’s own. The garden/yard of the church must be private and the church must keep that to themselves. Well worth the visit with nice views of Annecy.

The Canal du Vassé is one of two man-made canals running through the old city. Its head is at Lake Annecy’s northern shore where it flows west under the scenic Pont des Amours and into town, becoming the ‘zone d’amarrage du canal du Vassé’ - one of the city’s main ports for pleasure-boat berths. The Vassé angles northwest where it is covered by Rue Vaugelas, both following the line of the old moat along the former northern enceinte. Deeper into the centre the waters turn south, emerging into the open air again at Passage Gruffaz, ducking briefly under Église Notre Dame de Liesse, before bending west once more to flow beneath our very feet.
Paul Petyt★★★★★
Canal du Vassé is a beautiful and peaceful spot in Annecy, lined with majestic plane trees and offering a scenic walk along the water. The calm, reflective waters make it an ideal place to relax, take photos, or enjoy a quiet moment away from the busier areas of the city. It’s especially picturesque in the early morning or at sunset, with the boats gently moored along the canal. A lovely place to experience the natural charm of Annecy.

From the outside, it looks simple and modest compared to other grand European cathedrals, but once you step inside, the atmosphere is calm, quiet, and surprisingly elegant. The interior has a clean, classical design with beautiful arches and subtle details that give it a peaceful charm. It’s not overly crowded, so you can take your time, sit down, and enjoy a moment of silence away from the busy streets outside. It’s not about being the biggest or most famous cathedral—it’s about the calm feeling you get while you’re there. A nice quick stop while exploring Annecy. 👉 Check my profile for more travel tips and hidden spots.
Dr. Reviews★★★★★
The Cathedral stands in between buildings near to the Police Municipal. There are two stairways that bring you to the front (entrance) of the church. The Cathedral holds a charm of the old very well, does not look run down like some of the other churches around. Still, the Cathedral needs maintenance. The high ceiling of the Cathedral is able to enable any hymns sung in the Cathedral sound majestic. The doors of the Cathedral stood out since many of the other church doors seem to have been replaced with plywood or so it seems. The main structure of the church is made of granite and marble. The interior of the church seems to have been designed splendidly using good wood. The doors are open to public since the church is situated in the middle of touristy areas.
Wisanu Tuntawiroon★★★★★
Originally constructed between 1535 and 1538 as a chapel for the Cordeliers convent, the building gained prominence in 1538 when it became the refuge for the Bishop of Geneva during the Protestant Reformation. Elevated to cathedral status in 1822, it has since stood as the seat of the Diocese of Annecy. Notably, during the French Revolution, the cathedral was repurposed as a “Temple of Reason,” reflecting the era’s secular ideologies .

Lake Annecy and the surrounding bridge area are a beautiful, clean, and family-friendly destination. Renting a pedal or speed boat is a must for enjoying the stunning views. The water near the shore makes it a great place for children to play under adult supervision.

It's absolutely beautiful in every season. This time we finally visited in the summer, and the bright sunshine, the reflections on the water, and the vibrant color of the lake were stunning.

A truly magical place. The views from the bridge are absolutely stunning, and our adventure in Annecy became even more special on a beautiful sunny day. While standing on the bridge and taking countless photos with your family, friends, partner, or whoever you are travelling with, do yourself a favour and take a one-hour boat tour. On one side of the bridge you have breathtaking views of the lake and mountains, while on the other side you will find the traditional wooden boats waiting to depart. At €30 per person, the boat tour was worth every euro. We enjoyed an unforgettable trip with a wonderful guide who provided explanations in both French and English. If you visit Annecy, this is an experience not to miss. 🙏🏽⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Prabhat Subedi★★★★★
Pont des Amours is a truly magical place and one of the highlights of Annecy. The bridge offers breathtaking views of the turquoise waters of Lake Annecy and the surrounding mountains. The scenery is picture-perfect from every angle, making it an ideal spot for photos, a peaceful walk, or simply enjoying the beauty of nature. The atmosphere is romantic, calm, and unforgettable, especially during sunrise or sunset. A must-visit landmark that perfectly captures the charm and beauty of Annecy
Amatta Arengel★★★★★
This is a place from which two wonderful, different landscapes open up. Accordingly, the impressions they give are different. From one side of the bridge you can look at the majestic lake, let your thoughts go far, far away, and on the opposite side of the bridge - a canal in the middle of the city, it's peace, it's romance... and beautiful photos:)

The Conservatory of Art and History was formerly the Grand Seminary of the Diocese of Geneva. It currently houses the services of the Culture and Heritage Center of the Haute-Savoie Department. We are giving it a low rating because, despite arriving during official opening hours (which were even posted on the door), and with the building open and staff inside, we were told we couldn't visit because it was "closed."

Amazingly beautiful church in the downtown historic area of Annecy. The church sits in a large square in Annecy, not far from the park and the lake. Beautiful inside, the church has a large main aisle with side isles and side chapels. Mass had just ended so the smell of insense filled the church as did the smoke. Quiet place to rest from the hot sun.
Loo Yeo★★★★★
Inside Notre-Dame-de-Liesse, Annecy’s layers line up with unusual clarity. The nave reads as a Latin-cross basilica, its round arches and side aisles drawing the eye towards the crossing dome, while the devotional altars explain the city around it: Saint Francis de Sales on one side, Our Lady of the Rosary on the other. This is not the medieval collegiate church of the Counts of Geneva, whose choir, tombs and Marian shrine were destroyed during the Revolution. It is the nineteenth-century rebuilding, grafted onto surviving fragments and ordered through Sardinian neo-classical discipline: pilasters, cornices, pale walls and controlled axes. Yet the old Marian centre survives in another form, turning architecture, doctrine and Annecy’s Salesian memory into one legible interior.
John Leaver★★★☆☆
Worth sticking your nose in to see some of the architecture and nice stain glass windows. Not the most impressive church though.
Aidan Murphy★★★★★
Simply an amazing church in the heart of Annecy , the Architecture is simply mind blowing with its massive arches throughout the church and side alcoves . It is a special place , the alter in huge , the statues and art on the walls fantastic . As always there are simple wood pews that add to the serenity of this special place . Definitely well worth a visit when your in town .
Wisanu Tuntawiroon★★★★★
Founded in the 14th century by the Counts of Geneva, the church was constructed on the site of an ancient oratory and a medieval square, near a medieval hospice, underscoring the area’s long-standing religious significance. It served as a necropolis for the comital family. During the French Revolution in 1793, the church suffered significant damage, with its choir destroyed and the building repurposed. Restoration efforts between 1846 and 1851 led to the reconstruction of the church, preserving elements like the 16th-century bell tower and a Gothic window on the south wall .

At Quai de l’Île, Annecy’s canal view rests on a 19th-century reworking of the Thiou. The quay set a straighter bank along the water and drew the riverfront façades into a more ordered line, opposite the older Palais de l’Île. Across the channel, water doors and mooring rings preserve hints of an earlier town that dealt with the river at building level. The Thiou had long supplied mills, craft activity and later industry, so its current carried economic pressure as well as water. From the 1870s, sluices regulated the lake outlet, flood risk and industrial flow. The view gathers these changes in plain sight: ordered façades, remade bank, managed current.
Catalin Hulea★★☆☆☆
The city of Annecy is nicknamed the “Venice of the Alps,” and I honestly don’t know whether the people who say that have never actually seen Venice… or if their imagination is so powerful that it could put even the most famous sci-fi authors to shame. So, to be clear: if you have a small mountain river for which you dig a channel to prevent flooding, and that channel sometimes splits in two, you don’t suddenly have a “little Venice”—you just have a city with a stream running through it. To be honest, my walk along the Thiou River reminded me more of Dutch towns — but of course it sounds far more glamorous, and far easier to pronounce “Little Venice” than “Little ’s-Hertogenbosch” (yes, this is actually a Dutch city, not a keyboard malfunction). Now, to be fair, the city is picturesque, but… 1. It’s incredibly crowded, comparable only to the tourist centers of major European capitals, except here everyone is holding ice cream 2. Speaking about ice cream - Annecy is full of tourist traps — I saw dozens of people queueing to buy the city's famous ice cream, which is no different from the anonymous ice cream sold just a few streets away (if you’re in the area, try a small experiment and see if you can tell the difference) 3. The terraces are packed, and many of them have prices that shocked me — and I lived for three years in London, one of the most expensive cities in the world 4. The historical buildings converted into museums don’t live up to expectations — in many of them there is (almost) nothing to see Final rating: 2 stars for a visit in the middle of the tourist season. The experience would probably be far more enjoyable at any other time of year, preferably when half of Europe isn’t there with you.
Emir Celâl Er★★★★★
La venice des alpes… If you visit somewhere close, such as Geneva for example, you should visit here. Don’t forget to eat a pizza too.
Wisanu Tuntawiroon★★★★★
Situated along the Thiou River, Quai de l’Île is renowned for its colorful facades and historic buildings that exude a Venetian charm. The quay’s vibrant atmosphere is complemented by the presence of local cafes and artisanal shops, inviting visitors to indulge in delicious French pastries and unique souvenirs . The quay is home to the iconic Palais de l’Île, a 12th-century structure that has served various roles, including a courthouse and a prison. Today, it functions as a museum, showcasing Annecy’s rich history and architectural heritage .

The undisputed emblem of Annecy, proudly displayed in every tourist brochure, the Palais de l'Île manages the rare feat of being far more impressive as a photo than as an actual place you can visit. If you walk past it, admire the exterior, and keep going - you’ve already seen everything that really matters Stepping inside, any expectation of a medieval atmosphere is effectively crushed. The interior resembles everything except a medieval building. Apart from the stone walls and a few stubborn wooden doors that clearly survived by accident, almost nothing inside shows the slightest interest in the castle's actual past. The exhibition is a thrilling collection of pictures and documents about the city's recent evolution — because, apparently, that's exactly why people pay to visit a medieval monument. The single room containing something vaguely historic is the kitchen, which naturally becomes a human traffic jam, as all visitors eventually realize that this is the only place where there is anything remotely worth seeing. Taking photos here is an excellent exercise in patience (and disappointment). Navigation is another challenge. The signage is so unclear that you might skip rooms entirely (not that you'd notice) and then, without any warning, you open a door and find yourself back on the street, standing exactly where you started. This is usually the moment when tourists stop, look around in confusion, and ask the inevitable questions: "Wait... that's it? Did I miss something? Or was the visit really over before it began?" So, in conclusion, this is a perfect example of how a postcard can promise a medieval experience and deliver a (really short) walk through the Land of Boredom.
Loo Yeo★★★★★
Island of Stories. Palais de l’Île is the building Annecy uses to tell its own story. Once saved from demolition and listed as a historic monument in 1900, it has become the old town’s emblem, printed on brochures, fridge magnets and “Venice of the Alps” posters. Inside, the former audience rooms and cell blocks now house the city’s architecture and heritage centre, with models, plans and temporary exhibitions about how Annecy grew around its canals. The museum route leads you through damp former prison cells at water level and back up into well-lit galleries, so the contrast between punishment and interpretation is hard to miss. In a compact space, you move from medieval stronghold to modern heritage brand in a few rooms.

We enjoyed following the peaceful trail from Annecy up to the animal park. The hike is hilly but not too strenuous. The deer are beautiful and we were lucky to quietly walk and get close to them. There were also mountain goats. The hike included a beautiful look out points over the city. We spent about 1.5hrs walking there and back. There are rustic toilets at the top

A beautiful park with animals, the only one I could find in Annecy so far. It's very relaxing there, and 50 m away there is a great spot from which you can see a beautiful city landscape. It may be hard to get there on foot, car recommended. Although, not impossible and totally worth it. Great place, must visit. Bring vegetables with you, there is only bread to feed the animals there, and it's not very good for them.
Peter Vanham★★★★★
Only three types of animals - deer, bigger deer, and goats. But the space is nevertheless huge, as it is part of a giant forested mountain. There are plenty of options for kids to play creatively, such as hide and seek, look for sticks or chestnuts, build a camp, and for sporty people there are dozens of trails.
Alexey Subach★★★★★
Nice park with animals (mostly deer), the entrance was free. The park itself is pretty small so if you climb up just for it - don’t have too high expectations

I just visited this place and I assumed animals are free but they live in a borderline and its kinda sad to watch them not being free in the mountain. Some of them look good physically but I saw two animals looked unhealthy

The Claude Louis Berthollet statue in Annecy is a compelling tribute to one of France’s most influential chemists, beautifully situated in the Jardins de l’Europe, a serene park along the shores of Lake Annecy. Born in 1748 in nearby Talloires, Berthollet was a pioneering scientist best known for inventing bleach (eau de Javel) and advancing chemical equilibrium theory. His contributions to science and his role in Napoleon’s Egyptian expedition are commemorated in this bronze monument, sculpted by Carlo Marochetti and inaugurated in 1843. The statue features four detailed bas-reliefs depicting pivotal moments in his life, including his collaboration with Lavoisier and his presence alongside Bonaparte in Egypt .

Claude Louis Berthollet was born in Talloires, near Annecy, then part of the Duchy of Savoy, in 1749. He is known for his scientific contributions to the theory of chemical equilibria via the mechanism of reverse chemical reactions, and for his contribution to modern chemical nomenclature. On a practical basis, Berthollet was the first to demonstrate the bleaching action of chlorine gas, and was first to develop a solution of sodium hypochlorite as a modern bleaching agent. He was a chemist who became vice president of the French Senate in 1804 and became a member of the London - Edinburg - Swedish and Netherland Academies of Science.

Essential Tips for Visiting Annecy

To ensure your trip is as smooth as it is memorable, it helps to understand the local rhythm and logistics. Annecy is a popular destination year-round, but the experience changes dramatically with the seasons. The following recommendations will help you navigate the city like a seasoned traveler, avoiding common pitfalls and maximizing your enjoyment of the lake, the mountains, and the historic center.

1. Choose Your Season Wisely
Summer (June to August) offers the best weather for swimming and sunbathing, but it also brings significant crowds and higher accommodation prices. Spring and early autumn are ideal for hiking and cycling, with mild temperatures and fewer tourists. Winter transforms the area into a cozy alpine retreat, though many lake activities pause.

2. Embrace the Bike Culture
Annecy is one of the most bike-friendly cities in France. The dedicated cycling path around Lake Annecy is flat, safe, and incredibly scenic. Renting a bike for a day is often faster and more enjoyable than trying to find parking near the popular beaches and villages.

3. Visit the Markets Early
The Old Town markets, particularly the Marché de la Vieille Ville, are a sensory delight but get packed by mid-morning. Arrive before 9:00 AM to browse local cheeses, cured meats, and fresh produce without the elbow-to-elbow crowds. This is also when the best produce is still available.

4. Wear Sturdy Footwear
While the city center is flat, the cobblestones can be slippery, especially when wet. If you plan to visit the châteaux or hike up to viewpoints like the Basilica of the Visitation, you will encounter steep, uneven paths. Comfortable, grippy shoes are non-negotiable for a comfortable day of exploring.

5. Pack for Microclimates
The weather in the Alps can change rapidly. A sunny morning by the lake can turn into a chilly, windy afternoon in the mountains. Always carry a light waterproof jacket and layers, even in the height of summer, especially if you are heading out on a boat or up into the surrounding peaks.

6. Use the "Lac" Shuttle Services
During the summer months, the local government operates shuttle buses that connect the city center to the various beaches and villages around the lake. Using these services eliminates the stress of parking and allows you to enjoy a glass of local wine with lunch without worrying about driving.

The magic of Annecy lies not just in its postcard-perfect views but in the lifestyle it represents. It is a place that encourages you to linger over a coffee on a sun-drenched terrace, to dip your toes into the glacial water, and to lose track of time wandering through its historic arcades. The city’s commitment to preserving its natural environment and architectural heritage is evident everywhere you look, making it a model for sustainable tourism.

As you plan your departure, you will likely find yourself already dreaming of a return visit. Annecy has a way of capturing the hearts of travelers, offering a sense of peace and rejuvenation that is increasingly rare. Whether you came for the mountains, the water, or the history, you will leave with a deep appreciation for this jewel of the Haute-Savoie region.
