Lyon may be famous for its bouchons and silk-weaving history, but it is also quietly becoming one of France’s premier wellness destinations. Nestled between the Rhône and Saône rivers, the city offers a unique blend of ancient Roman bathing traditions and cutting-edge French cosmetology.
Whether you are a local looking for a lunchtime reset or a traveler recovering from a long day of sightseeing, the city has a sanctuary for you. The demand for high-quality relaxation has led to a boom in luxury hammams, thermal circuits, and holistic day spas.
Unlike the more tourist-heavy spa towns in the Alps, Lyon’s wellness scene feels authentically French and deeply integrated into the local lifestyle. From the cobblestone streets of Vieux Lyon to the chic boutiques of the 6th arrondissement, every neighborhood hides a haven of calm.
Choosing the right spa requires understanding what kind of relaxation you actually need. Some visitors seek the intense heat of a traditional Nordic sauna, while others prefer the gentle humidity of a Moroccan steam room. The best establishments in Lyon combine multiple elements—hydrotherapy, massage, and aesthetic treatments—to create a comprehensive journey for the body and mind.
In this guide, we have curated a list based on service quality, hygiene standards, atmosphere, and value for money. We have personally evaluated the variety of amenities, from the quality of the massage oils used to the architectural design of the relaxation rooms. You will find options ranging from intimate boutique hideaways to grand, opulent day resorts.
It is important to note that Lyon’s top spas often require advance booking, especially on weekends and during the winter months. Many of the luxury hotels open their spa facilities to non-resident guests, but availability can be limited. We recommend calling ahead to reserve not just your treatment, but also your access to the thermal baths and saunas.
Below is our definitive selection of the best wellness experiences Lyon has to offer. These locations have been chosen for their consistency, their commitment to client comfort, and their ability to transport you far away from the urban hustle without ever leaving the city limits.

Amazing massage, MO was excellent! Highly recommended
Tiphaine Ceyrac★★★★★
One of the best massages I've ever had. The pressure was very firm at the beginning to help me relax, but I think it's adjustable if needed. The 55-minute massage (with areas of my choice) was perfect. I'll definitely be back to try the other services. Tea and madeleines were offered after the massage. Thank you again for the treatment and its quality. P.S.: My privacy was very well respected.

Amazing hot stone massage!
I really enjoyed the experience. The masseuse was very gentle and attentive. A truly relaxing moment.
The place is clean and welcoming; you feel comfortable as soon as you arrive. The session ends peacefully with a cup of tea 🍵, and there's even a corner for removing makeup or fixing your hair.
Honestly, a fantastic moment of relaxation. I highly recommend it! 😊

First experience at this spa with the hot stone massage for two with my wife. Pleasantly surprised, the staff were competent from reception to the massage itself. The massage room was very clean and relaxing. I recommend it.
Sarah GRIZAUD★★★★★
A magical first experience with my mother! We had the hammam, sauna, and spa area to ourselves for an hour and a half and we loved it. Time flew by and we were able to move freely between the three spaces as we pleased. The staff was incredibly welcoming and attentive from beginning to end, allowing us to relax completely. A very nice touch was the complimentary tea and treats. Thank you so much for this wonderful experience; we will gladly return to try the massages!

A truly unique spa. After a series of detoxification of the body, we thoroughly enjoyed a relaxing massage with foam! The owner and her staff are wonderful. I recommend it to anyone seeking a authentic hammam experience.

Just one word… Thank you! I went to this hammam and frankly, I loved it from beginning to end. From the moment you arrive, the owner is incredibly kind; you immediately feel comfortable and welcome.
The place is immaculate, very clean, and truly beautiful, with an atmosphere that completely invites relaxation. Special mention to the scrubber who is simply exceptional: a true moment of well-being!
I left feeling relaxed, peaceful, and eager to return very soon. An experience I sincerely recommend!

An absolutely incredible experience! We were pampered from beginning to end. The staff is lovely, kind, and attentive, making this relaxing moment even more special.
The prices are more than reasonable considering the quality of the services and the attention given to guests. And what can I say about the food… it's simply too, too, too good! A real treat that perfectly complements this wellness break.
A huge thank you to the entire team for your professionalism, kindness, and exceptional welcome. I recommend this place 100%! We will be back with immense pleasure. ✨🧖♀️💆♂️🍴

An absolutely perfect experience for a private bachelorette party! We had a truly magical time. The staff took excellent care of the bride-to-be and the entire team, with a warm and personalized welcome. The facilities were impeccably clean and the atmosphere was incredibly relaxing. Special mention goes to the little touches that made this moment even more special. All the girls loved it, and the bride-to-be was over the moon. You can book your events there without hesitation; we will definitely be back! Thank you, Amel ❤️❤️❤️

The whole team was fantastic!
A lovely time with friends. Thank you Naima for the scrub and massage!!! The only downside: it was too short!!!!
Everyone was wonderful. The tea and pastries are a family tradition 🥰🥰🥰.
A little gift for my birthday. This is a place where friendliness and business acumen coexist perfectly. Can't wait to go back!!!

I had the coffret future maman at the 5th month of my pregnancy and it was absolutely great. First, a short sauna where you can decide how much time you spend. Then, a foot bath. And finally, a great message where Camille was very attentive and careful to my needs before and during the session. I strongly recommend this place and the package I did. I’ll for sure be back!
Michael★★★★★
What an amazing discovery! I love doing cold plunges, and Löyly Spa is perfectly organized to offer the full Nordic ritual — from the hot sauna to the ice-cold bath. Everything is thoughtfully designed, creating a truly authentic atmosphere that transported me straight to Finland.
The place is beautiful, peaceful, and very well managed. A special thanks to Camille, who was simply incredible. She introduced me to the sauna ritual with great clarity and professionalism, and later gave me one of the best massages I’ve ever had. Her touch was both grounding and rejuvenating, and I was left feeling completely renewed. She has a wonderful sensitivity and a subtle ability to listen and attune to what the body truly needs.
If you’re in Lyon and love the sauna with cold plunge cycle, and appreciate truly high-quality massages, this is an absolute must-visit!
A true sanctuary of relaxation and vitality! ❄️🔥✨

Very nice experience. Had a Nordic Break and was very well welcomed by the staff. I recommend !!

I was visiting Lyon and desperately needed a sauna. very surprised to find one as good as this! I’ve been to sauna in Finland, Lithuania and Germany and I can say Loyly Spa is a very authentic nordic sauna. For a moment I thought I was back in Helsinki. The massage I got was also great. My therapist Camille is so talented. If you are in Lyon, you have to go!
Colin Szasz★★★★★
What a great place - highly recommended! I do the nordic cycle at home in a real lake...this was a perfect replacement during my travel.

One of the best massages we’ve had! Bella de Maïa was able to accommodate for a couples massage pretty much last minute on a Sunday. We chose a Californian massage - full body relaxation with oil and ended up fully refreshed and relaxed. The place has a great energy, a mixed of old stone and modern design. The hostess were very polite and the experience included a face mask and a drink before and after the massage. This place goes above and beyond and is highly worth it for the price ❤️
Toyoko Orimoto★★★★★
I had a lovely massage + facial at Belle de Maïa! The massage was very relaxing, and the facial felt very nice. The space is really beautiful & tranquil, and the staff were very kind.
Jacalyn Charbonneau★★★★★
A friend of mine had reserved an hour at this spa. I found the best massage therapist I've ever met. Also the mask facial cleanser with clay was amazing! I felt like Cleopatra and I will go back there for sure.
PJS★★★★★
Just wanted to say that the staff was super friendly and helpful. I was in despair of looking for a specific something which was rare to find in France (as well as in the US). It just happened I was in the area and was excited when I saw that what I was looking for was displayed on their windowsill. They took their time to assist me and I was blown away by their service. Thank you again!

The team was lovely and attentive and the space is beautiful! Perfect stop on our honeymoon!

Sandra Nobbs★★☆☆☆
It is not a pleasant experience - not only my massage time was cut short for 10 mins despite the fact that I arrived 25 mins earlier, I was left alone and being ignored.
Massage was booked at 12pm for 80 mins. Arrived at 11:35. No guest was there; they are not busy. After filling in the form, I waited and waited. Meanwhile I repeatedly asked when and where I can change to be punctual to the massage time. No attention until 11:51, I have to raise the question again when I was showed to the change room. My massage therapist only appeared at 12 to lead me to my room. After she showed me what to do, she retuned at 12:13 pm (there’s a small clock in the room). I checked with her again to make sure I will have 80 mins. She said yes. When my massage was finished, it was 11:24 (bear in mind I rested for a few mins and get up and saw the clock).
I raised the issue with reception they apologized and offered to compensate but which means they know they did wrong. I was rather disappointment and do not want to stay one more minutes at this spa. It is quite unprofessional throughout the process.
Would note that the spa is an independent operation from intercontinental hotel.
Yana Antonyan★☆☆☆☆
It was the worst massage of my life! Tons of oil, touching my hair and my face without washing hands after the body massage, it felt greasy. Astonished by unprofessional staff and lack of quality. It was not on my name and on another day. Why couldn’t it be? I stated verbally my opinion about the massage but that was it.
Christine★★★★★
Well worth the visit. Top notch professionals service and enviornment.
Amy Gepfert★★★★☆
Very nice spa with lovely products. I had a pleasant facial in the basement treatment rooms and felt relaxed afterwards. There's not too much product selling, although I would have liked to have just relaxed (ahem, slept..!) instead of therapist telling me about each step. No pool or relaxation area (although some Cinq Mondes have them) but very pleasant nonetheless.
Constantini★☆☆☆☆
So sorry having to tell you: Massage with AMELIE was a total flop. I asked for stronger handling of the muscles but with no success. Vraiment nul!

Should be downgraded to 4* at best.
There was someone’s hair on the bed at check-in, toilet kept running water after flushing. Room design is outdated with plastic chairs looking very cheap.
Fitness room was previously an actual bedroom refitted, with 4 pieces of equipment (treadmill, elliptical, etc.). Breakfast quality doesn’t justify the eye-popping price of eur30.
Finally, I wanted to cancel breakfast for my second morning, reception lied that they did and then still included it in the final bill at check-out. Outrageous!
Arpita★★★★★
Great experience with Groupon.
I was gifted this experience by a dear friend. Both of us enjoyed it. It’s perfect during the day on weekdays. Great service! Will definitely go back.
Katie Zarpas★★★★★
Boscolo Lyon Hotel & Spa, and we left feeling genuinely spoiled. Our room was enormous — high ceilings, a balcony overlooking the Rhône — and the service was impeccable. The front desk was especially kind; our French was weak and they made everything effortless.
The location is the real prize: the best shopping is around the corner, the great restaurants are not far away, and the whole area easy to navigate.
The spa is a standout — a proper sauna and steam room in a space inspired by Roman baths. Truly five-star, and we’d stay again without hesitation.

The quality of massage is fantastic. The place is quiet and relaxing….. the atmosphere entices one to let go and maybe introspect? The owners and employees are benevolent, nice and excellent professionals.

A wonderful moment of relaxation in a small, discreet, and peaceful haven. The staff is attentive to our well-being. A true break that should be covered by health insurance! The massage allows for the rejuvenation of both body and mind. I felt lighter and my spirits are lifted. A big thank you to the whole team, and I look forward to another massage very soon. The staff at the Spa are very helpful and client friendly! I got a duo massage of 50 mins and I would for sure recommend it. We got as well a "gommage" and the face care "coup d'eclat" the lady I think her name was Vanille , she was very sweet and had a very pleasant voice so we totally enjoyed the time spend with her. The waiter at the restaurant was not very nice he was really annoyed and was rushing our order. However the food was delicious as well as the white wine. We spent a good day of rest.
G. Goni★☆☆☆☆
I was there on Wednesday for Spa day with my friend for a girly day together. Voucher includes lunch at a Brasserie. When we sat down, they brought us a formula menu for the Voucher customers. I chose a Veau with a dessert and my friend chose a fish with a dessert because we can only get two. Not three like any other restaurant, starter, main course and dessert. Not there. We both had a Cream Brulee. The lunch formula as a part of the couch was visually small quantities which was so small even for French standard. But did not say anything. Around 5pm on our way back home, we both started to get cramps and we rushed to the toilet as soon as I got home. We both had diarrhea all night to the next day and vomiting. It was absolutely painful and unpleasant experience. Come to think of it, I ate there 2 more times in the past, each time, I was disappointed with food and service. It was few years ago so I forgot. As I had a voucher as a gift, I went back. I do not recommend the restaurant at all and watch out for salmonella poisoning.!!!
Julien Jomier★★★★☆
Very friendly staff! Nice and clean facilities. Very good for a relaxing day.
Fabien-Pierre NICOLAS★☆☆☆☆
First, the check-in experience took 20 minutes because this hotel has a lot of rooms but doesn't offer advance check-in or app check in.
Second, despite having a bathing suit that is compliant with public French swimming pool length policy, and after having the entry door staff check it and accept it, a second staff then decided "it has pockets therefore it's not compliant" ruining the afternoon swim session planned with my 7.5 years old daughter. Way to be inconsistent between staff members and frankly not service oriented. Do I look like someone who wears swim trunk outside in the city?
Megi Kasemi★★★★★
Amazing experience. I appreciated the service quality - very polite, handy and positive
The room was great - clean, spacious and all necessities included
The spa was another great point, we enjoyed it a lot, eventhough it was a bad wether (however, make sure to check the bathsuit policy before, because there is a limitation of what they allow)

Our second visit to an Oāsis, the first in Paris. The Lyon branch was equally as impressive. The hosts efficiently relaxed, and the centre clean and well prepared. The relaxed pre- and post flotation arrangements add to the whole experience. Highly recommend, especially for anyone trying a flotation tank for the first time.

Claire TORRE★★★★★
A timeless experience.
This is my second time visiting Meïsō, and it's still magical.
This time, I tried the experience in complete darkness, feeling more comfortable with the usual routine.
It was incredible, the sensation of floating/flying in space, no tension, no sound... A suspended moment.
The staff is very friendly.
Robin Treppoz★★★★★
Floatation therapy was a wonderful and complete discovery, thanks to a friend who told me about it because she offers kinesiology at this center (another experience to try). I had a little trouble letting go at first, too caught up in my thoughts, despite the voice guiding the meditation at the beginning. Then, as darkness fell and total silence descended, I must have drifted off to sleep, letting my thoughts settle, losing all sense of time and space. When the birds resumed their chirping, announcing that it was time to return to weightlessness, I had no idea how much time had passed. This is the experience in the immersion "cocoon," which I won't describe to preserve the pleasant surprise that lies at the heart of this treatment for body and soul... You might get a certain "womb-like" feeling while experiencing this liquid weightlessness. But Freud could explain it better than I can.
More practically, it's really clean, both in the cabin and the immersion "cocoon" itself (I'm mentioning this for those worried about bacteria!), without any smell of chlorine or any kind of cleaning product. I find the pre- and post-immersion shower gel has a pleasant, "purifying" scent.
The relaxation area is quite spacious yet still cozy, allowing you to unwind (follow the suggestion to set aside some time if possible). I recommend bringing a bathrobe to relax in afterward, rather than immediately getting dressed in the separate "cell" next to the shower and bath (these three elements are part of the overall cocoon reserved for you during the session). I hope that's clear 😉 You have to come and see for yourself, and especially try it! Come beforehand to prepare for the escape, and then afterward to remember it ;-).
As for the decor, it's more warm and Buddhist than the cream and stone of a luxury hotel spa, but this gives it a more human feel, embodied by the people who run the place:
the "floatation therapist" who introduced me to the "treatment" was very welcoming and patient, especially for my first time... which makes me want to come back to try a different musical and meditation experience. Make a note of the address (well located just steps from Place Carnot) because the exterior signage isn't very visible (no "flag" sign and a logo that blends into the frosted glass). Perhaps this is to keep the place reserved for the "happy few"... Go on, I'll take the plunge, you have to dare to jump in!

Special mention to Julia for her massages: she is very gentle, attentive, and perfectly skilled. You leave feeling relaxed and wanting to return. I highly recommend it!
Rayene.H★★☆☆☆
Laurinda Contayon★★★★★
The best spa of my life.
If I could rate it higher than 5, believe me, I would.
I had to exchange my gift certificate for another service due to a tragic event.
How can I even begin to describe how completely restorative this massage was for my soul?
The quality of the massage and the kindness of all the staff... If you're looking for a spa in Lyon, don't miss this one; it's by far the best.

I was treated by Kasandra and I highly recommend this place! The vaulted ceiling creates a very pleasant and welcoming atmosphere. The reception was excellent! The diagnosis was explained very clearly. Then came the treatment (I had the 50-minute one), which was truly fantastic! Very professional. I'll be back 😊

A magnificent place to relax! I took my mother for a facial treatment, which she thoroughly enjoyed. The staff is particularly welcoming and provides very clear explanations. It was the first time my mother had entrusted her face to a treatment of this type, and Océane immediately put her at ease. In her words, "she has magic in her fingers." She is very happy with the results, with a brighter complexion and plumped skin immediately after her session. We also enjoyed the halotherapy cabin together, a wonderful moment of timeless relaxation. The enveloping warmth, the waterbed, and the sensory stimulations create an experience that is both soothing and invigorating. I highly recommend the Algotherm Spa!

If you are looking for a high end, zen experience, look no further. From the owners to the staff, everyone is super welcome and professional. We got the hammam and massage package. It was to die for

My first time at this spa for a private hammam treatment and massage, and it deserves my applause. I was immediately welcomed into a calm atmosphere with soft music and a pleasant fragrance. I only had to bring my swimsuit; everything else was provided. I had my own private relaxation area with a small lounge, a walk-in shower, and a hammam. A nice touch was the fruit tea, dates, makeup remover, changing underwear, and the small plastic bag for my swimsuit after the hammam. The massage room was just as inviting, with a heated massage table. Thank you to the masseuse for the wonderful massage! 😌

This is my first time at Gravity ☺️ I was at the reception today at 2:15 pm. Although I don't know French, the girl at the reception explained everything to me and was very kind. Excellent service, interesting sensations and delicious tea. But I would add one more towel for girls with long hair. One towel is really not enough)) The body quickly becomes wet from wet hair. And, of course, I would like to drink tea in a robe, that would be ideal. I will definitely recommend you to my friends.

Great experience today!
I was there with my partner- and we both feel so relaxed !
We would come back again for sure!
Thank you to the guy who was a receptionist today also he made us feel very welcome and comfortable!
Great service!

Big disappointment
Ended up leaving more stressed than when arrived.
The receptionist was not kind and accommodative. Quite rude and impolite.
At some point I had to press the emergency button and nobody came until I pressed it 5 times (few minutes in between). (I was okay but if somebody was actually in big distress - not ok!)
Only one toilet to share with other guests - being the toilet at the place you are supposed to relax and unwind.
Had to wear inside shoes 3 times bigger than my feet..
only one towel provided..
I could go on.. 🙁
It’s visable they cut corners and made what could have been a good experience feel cheap.
Just felt like a very expensive shower/bath

It was a great experience that we had during a stay in Lyon. After the session you feel super light. A tea is included right after and tastes super good. Everything look nice and relaxing. We recommand, It was really worth it !!

Essential Tips for Choosing Your Ideal Spa in Lyon
To truly maximize your relaxation, it helps to understand the nuances of French spa culture before you book. The etiquette, the pricing structures, and the amenities can differ significantly from what you might be used to in North America or Asia. A little preparation ensures you can fully immerse yourself in the experience without any awkward surprises. Here are some practical strategies to help you select the perfect venue and enjoy your visit to the fullest.
1. Understand the Difference Between a Spa and a Hammam
In Lyon, the term “spa” often refers to a relaxation area attached to a hotel or beauty clinic, typically featuring a jacuzzi, sauna, and treatment rooms. A “hammam,” on the other hand, is traditionally a Moorish steam bath with specific rituals involving black soap and exfoliating gloves. If you want a social, deep-cleansing experience, seek out a dedicated hammam; if you want quiet solitude and massage therapy, choose a classic spa.
2. Bring Your Own Swimsuit and Slippers
While some high-end hotel spas provide robes and slippers, many local thermal circuits expect you to bring your own swimwear. Towels are almost always provided, but having your own non-slip sandals is highly recommended for hygiene and safety when walking between the sauna and the pool. It is always best to check the “what to bring” section on the venue’s website before you go.
3. Book a Weekday Slot for True Tranquility
Lyon is a busy metropolis, and its spas fill up quickly on Friday evenings and Saturdays. If your goal is silence and solitude, book your session for a Tuesday or Wednesday morning. You will often find that you have the sauna and relaxation lounges almost entirely to yourself, turning a standard visit into a private retreat.
4. Look for “Formules” or Packages
Most establishments in Lyon offer combined packages known as “formules.” These often include access to the thermal area plus a massage or a facial for a significantly reduced price compared to booking items à la carte. If you plan to spend a few hours at the spa, these packages are almost always the best value for money.
5. Respect the Silence Zones
French spas take the “relaxation” aspect very seriously. Unlike some resort spas abroad where conversation flows freely, Lyon’s wellness centers often enforce strict quiet rules in the sauna and rest areas. Keep your voice to a whisper and leave your phone in the locker. This silent etiquette is part of the restorative magic of the experience.
The beauty of Lyon’s spa scene lies in its diversity and its accessibility. Whether you are soaking in a rooftop jacuzzi overlooking the Basilica of Notre-Dame de Fourvière or enjoying a deep tissue massage in a vaulted Renaissance cellar, the city offers a sensory journey unlike any other.
By choosing any of the locations listed above, you are ensuring a standard of excellence that matches the rich cultural heritage of the city itself. Take the time to disconnect, hydrate well after your heat treatments, and allow the unique rhythm of Lyon to restore your energy.
