Aix-en-Provence is a city that lives by its own rhythms—sunlit terraces, the murmur of fountains, and an unmistakable air of quiet luxury. It is no surprise, then, that the beauty scene here is far from ordinary. Whether you are a local looking to refresh your routine or a visitor hoping to soak up that Provençal glow, the city’s salons and spas offer a refined take on self-care.
The challenge is not finding a place to book an appointment—it is choosing the right one. From tucked-away ateliers run by sought-after colorists to serene wellness spaces that blend French pharmacy science with Mediterranean botanicals, the options are as varied as they are impressive. Each address has its own philosophy, clientele, and signature touch.
For the discerning client, the best beauty spots in Aix are about more than a quick trim or a coat of polish. They are about the experience: the weight of a warm towel, the precision of a French-girl balayage, the unhurried consultation that makes you feel truly seen. In a city known for its art de vivre, grooming is simply another form of daily artistry.
We have walked the cobbled streets of the Quartier Mazarin, browsed the boutiques near Cours Mirabeau, and listened to what locals actually recommend over coffee. The result is a curated guide that prioritizes technical skill, product quality, hygiene standards, and that intangible feeling of being well looked after from the moment you step through the door.
This list includes hair salons, aesthetic institutes, nail bars, and holistic spas, each selected for its reputation and consistency. Whether your priority is a corrective color treatment, a deep-tissue massage, or a flawless gel manicure before a wedding at a nearby château, there is an address here for you.
Before you book, consider what kind of atmosphere helps you unwind. Some of these spaces are buzzing, social hubs where you can chat and people-watch. Others are hushed, minimalist sanctuaries designed for complete sensory reset. Both have their place in a well-rounded beauty routine.

Very professional. My hair needed color, cut and style as I am traveling for an extended time. Beautiful color, cut and style. Highly recommend. Staff were very accommodating with my limited French. McKayla (sp) was outstanding. Her boss was hands on with her recommendations on color and style. Thank you ladies for your professional skill. 5+stars

They saved my hair!! After a horribly botched balayage and cut at another hairdresser's, they took me in quickly to save my hair. Thank you so much! I'll post a before and after photo.

This is my third time coming in for a blonde balayage (often touch-ups!) and the result is impeccable. The stylists are attentive and know their clients well, offering professional and always sincere advice. You can trust them completely!

I'm very happy with my first babylight balayage with Johanna. It was my first visit, and I wholeheartedly recommend this salon. It has everything I need: a warm welcome, personalized advice, and high-quality service. Marjorie and Johanna are very professional and friendly (a rare quality these days!).

I got full highlights done, and they came out very good! I believe Pauline was my hairdresser (I can't completely remember if that was her name!), and she was very precise and took her time to ensure they came out well. She took the time to make sure I got the result I wanted, and I would absolutely recommend her! Almost every person in the salon was very kind and approachable!
I am new to Aix and only speak a little French. Pauline was understanding, and we figured out effective ways to communicate to the best of both our abilities, which was very appreciated. My only issue was at the end of my visit, I was told by a different hairdresser that I should be speaking French in France and not English, as I was trying to thank my stylist for her work. I completely agree with this statement, but it was disheartening because I had been doing my best during the appointment to speak as much French as I could. It just felt a little upsetting to feel like my effort wasn't good enough for the salon, even if the comment was not intended to be rude. I am aware I could know more French than I do, but that is why I had tried to carefully choose a salon that seemed flexible enough to try and communicate with me. Once again, I overall had a wonderful experience at the salon and love my hair; I just wish that comment had not been made by that hairdresser, as it ruined an otherwise positive experience for me.

At last a hairdresser that listens and cuts beautifully! Elise did a fantastic job and this is going to be my permanent salon. A lovely essential oil scalp massage started the Aveda experience, a lovely wash and a fabulous haircut. Loved it!

Laurie did a toner to fix a balayage I wasn't happy with. The result is more than perfect 😊 And the blow-dry was just perfect too. On top of that, Laurie is very friendly and gives great advice on how to care for your hair. A big thank you, I'll be back!

This salon truly lives up to its name; it's so welcoming, the atmosphere is gentle, an ode to kindness. Laurie deserves a review to highlight her wonderful work. She takes the time to understand what you want so you leave feeling delighted. Her technique for achieving a blonde balayage with natural, luminous highlights is incredible. And she's also kind and bubbly. This is where I'll be getting my hair done from now on. A huge thank you! ☀️

Certainly will not recommend it to anyone. Simple thing like hair colouring their stylest failed to do properly, she did not put enough cream on the hair to highlight it Properly, left me waiting for over 3. 5 hours when it was obvious that the amount she put or the shade wasn't working then decided to rush as they were closing in less than an hour, washed my hair and added a colour for max 15 mins !! Made no difference to my hair colour what so ever,in fact I do much better job at home and guess what they charged me over €300 for this ... my whole day was wasted

Great hairdresser in Aix. The staff are very friendly and can speak some English. I showed them a photo of what I wanted and she replicated it to perfection! Easy online booking system which made this hairdresser even easier to pick!

I wholeheartedly recommend this hairdresser who does an exceptional job, in addition to being very professional with her clients!

I got my braids done at Suzanne's on June 20th, the day before Fête de la Musique. The experience was excellent; Suzie is a very kind hairdresser who takes the time needed for her clients. She listens attentively and is especially gentle. The braids are beautifully done. I highly recommend her.
Elisa leriche★★★☆☆
A regular customer who gets braids done once a year was unfortunately disappointed with this service.
An appointment was scheduled for 9 am for a 3-hour service. I arrived at 10 am, and the service started at 10:30 am.
At 11:30 am, she stopped to take her 11 am client, so there was a significant delay.
Then came the hairstyle, which was supposed to last 3 weeks to a month with proper care. Unfortunately, it only lasted a week; she forgot to secure the braids, so they came undone. The mirror was dirty.
The price was quoted as €100 via text message, but it was €110 in person. I won't be returning, unfortunately.
And a little advice: take care of your clients before spending all day on the phone.
Severac Lucie★★★★★
Suzanne is a sweet and, above all, very kind and pleasant person!
She knows her job! Her prices are reasonable.
I recommend her because I am very happy with the service.

I walked in for a blow dry without an appointment and they accommodated me within a few minutes (I got very lucky)! The stylist was incredibly skilled and lovely to work with. She did a fabulous job and was so nice navigating my bad French. The style has lasted 6+ days, no frizz even in the heat!!! I’d definitely come back here on future visits to Aix.

Visiting Aix en Provence for one week, I decided to try this salon for a cut and color. I didn't have an appointment and just stopped in. They were so amazing! They fit me in immediately and gave me excellent service despite my terrible French speaking skills. Everyone was kind and made me feel welcome. My cut and color is fantastic! I love it. What a very skilled hairdresser. Thank you. If I lived here, this would be my permanent salon.

Exceptional service and staff. I travelled to Aix en Provence the weekend preceding my wedding which was taking place on Monday 30th Aug. Having passed through Paris specifically to get my colour (balayage) done, I was disappointed by the results - I had yellow hair 2 days before my wedding! I went straight to the Dessange salon on Saturday afternoon, without a reservation - the staff immediately jumped into action, seating me straight away and putting a very competent (and patient) young lady (I think her name was Lea) in charge of fixing my colour. Two hours later, I came out with a beautiful colour - my wedding day was saved thanks to the wonderful staff of this salon. I can not thank you all enough for how well you looked after me. Excellent, kind and professional service.
Hurmat Ahmad★☆☆☆☆
Got colour and simple cut. They have deceiving pricing. Wash after applying colour is extra. Conditioner is also extra. The cut took 2 minutes and it’s not even. It was a simple trim, no layers. Colour doesn’t have good coverage. Basically I paid twice as much as is advertised.
Julie Carney★★★★★
Wow! What a great experience. I was hesitant to get my hair done in Aix without knowing anything about the place, or speaking very good french. It was recommended by our landlord, so I took a walk to the salon to make an appointment and they were very welcoming, and also made sure there was someone there who could speak English, if I needed it. It's an upscale salon, very clean and it's clear they have good people working there. I can't remember the name of the woman who cut my hair (sorry! But she was lovely with very thick blond hair cut short), and she explained (in french) what she was planning to do, and Allison (who did my color, and beautifully) confirmed in English that I understood. They offered coffee, tea, water, etc and were very attentive. I had a ballyage for color--haven't had that in a long time--and it was beautiful! They took their time, and the result was fantastique!
How to Choose the Right Salon or Spa in Aix-en-Provence
Selecting the perfect beauty spot often comes down to a few practical considerations that go beyond the menu of services. A little preparation ensures that your appointment feels less like a transaction and more like a genuine investment in your well-being. Keep the following advice in mind as you browse the options above and plan your visit.
Book well in advance, especially on weekends. Aix-en-Provence is a compact city with a high demand for quality beauty services. The most sought-after colorists and facialists often have waiting lists of two to three weeks. If you are visiting for a specific event, secure your appointment before you even book your train ticket.
Ask about the product lines used. French beauty philosophy is deeply rooted in cosmetology and dermo-cosmetics. A reputable salon will be transparent about whether they use brands like Biologique Recherche, Kérastase, Oribe, or local Provençal labels. If you have sensitive skin or color-treated hair, ask for a patch test or a strand test during your first consultation.
Embrace the French approach to subtlety. The most trusted aestheticians in Aix are known for enhancing rather than transforming. If you want a natural, sun-kissed balayage or a “no-makeup” facial that prioritizes skin health, you will be in excellent hands. Communicate your goals with reference photos, but trust their training—less is very often more here.
Consider the language barrier with kindness. While many practitioners in Aix speak some English, the vocabulary of beauty can be specific. Learning a few key French terms—such as mèches for highlights, coupe for haircut, or soin du visage for facial—will make the consultation smoother and show respect for the local craft.
Factor in the Provençal pace. Appointments in the south of France are rarely rushed. A blow-dry may include a head massage, and a manicure often comes with a long chat about the best market for lavender honey. Leave buffer time in your schedule so you can enjoy the ritual rather than watching the clock.
Aix-en-Provence rewards those who treat beauty as part of a broader lifestyle rather than a last-minute errand. After your appointment, take a slow walk down the Cours Mirabeau or find a quiet square for a glass of rosé. That post-salon hour, when you feel polished and at ease, is often the most memorable part of the experience.
Wherever you choose to book, you are participating in a local culture that values craft, conversation, and the quiet confidence that comes from looking like the best version of yourself. In Aix, beauty is not about perfection—it is about presence.
