15 Best Restaurants in Zaragoza

Zaragoza sits in the heart of the Ebro Valley, where the culinary landscape is as rich and layered as its 2,000-year history. Unlike the coastal hubs of Barcelona or Valencia, this Aragonese capital offers a distinct, hearty gastronomy rooted in inland traditions, local produce, and a deep respect for slow cooking. For food lovers, exploring the city is a journey through rustic tapas bars, avant-garde tasting menus, and century-old bodegas that have barely changed their recipes.

The local cuisine is defined by its geography. The harsh, dry winds of the Cierzo shape the agriculture, producing robust vegetables like the Borraja (borage) and the famous Cebolla Fuentes de Ebro, a sweet, tender onion that is practically a delicacy. Lamb, particularly the Ternasco de Aragón, is a point of pride, often roasted slowly in wood-fired ovens until it falls off the bone. These ingredients form the backbone of a dining scene that values substance over superficial trends.

Navigating the restaurant scene here requires understanding the local rhythm. Lunch is the main event, often lasting two hours and featuring a "Menú del Día" that offers incredible value for a three-course meal with wine. Dinner starts late, usually after 9:00 PM, and is often a lighter affair centered around tapas and wine. To eat well in Zaragoza is to adapt to this pace and embrace the social aspect of the table.

The historic center, particularly the area known as El Tubo, is a labyrinth of narrow streets packed with standing-room-only bars. Here, the tapas culture thrives, with each establishment specializing in a single signature item—perhaps a mushroom croquette, a specific braised pork cheek, or a unique anchovy preparation. Moving between these bars is a local sport, often accompanied by a glass of Garnacha or a local craft beer.

For those seeking a more formal dining experience, Zaragoza has seen a quiet culinary revolution in recent years. Young chefs trained in the world’s best kitchens are returning home to reinterpret Aragonese classics with modern techniques. They are elevating humble ingredients like migas (fried breadcrumbs) and chilindrón sauce into fine dining masterpieces, earning the city a growing reputation on the national gastronomic map.

This guide cuts through the noise to highlight the essential dining experiences in the city. It balances the historic institutions that have fed generations of Zaragozanos with the new wave of innovators pushing boundaries. Whether you are looking for the perfect croqueta, a succulent roast lamb, or a creative tasting menu, this list serves as your culinary compass.

Quality, authenticity, and a sense of place are the primary criteria for inclusion. We have prioritized restaurants that source locally, treat their staff well, and offer a genuine taste of Aragon rather than generic tourist fare. These are the tables where locals eat, celebrate, and argue about who makes the best sauce in town.

Perfect restaurant on a hot Zaragoza evening. Stunning food. Very helpful staff who spoke English to us and gave us a QR code to see the images of the menu. Shared plates for 2. We had carpaccio pork. Amazing, pumpkin ravioli in Aragon sauce, and slow cooked lamb shoulder. All delicious. White and local Grenache red wine. Bread. Quiet. Comfortable and perfect. 70€ with a tip which I don’t normally do but was deserved. Well done.
Mark Villamor★★★★★
Where do we start? We got the tataki baturro, alcachofas, y el carpaccio de presa. The artichoke had crispy edges with soft center smothered with a creamy white sauce with a hint a pork. The tataki was cooked well, medium rare with a roasted tomato with a hint of brininess from the olives. We didn’t make reservations but they made space for us. The servers were great and described the meals well. (I wish we had more photos but we ate it before we could take the photos)

I came here because someone recommended this place. The restaurant itself is absolutely beautiful — very stylish, with great design and attention to detail. You can tell a lot of thought went into creating the atmosphere. As for the food, it was okay for me — decent and perfectly edible, but not something that made me go “wow” or left me thinking about it afterwards. The service was a bit mixed. Some of the waiters were friendly and smiling, while others felt less welcoming. When I arrived, I was told I only had one hour for my meal because the table was reserved, even though the restaurant was empty at the time, which felt a little strange. Overall, I’d say my experience was around a 6–7/10.

La Flor was the highlight of our Zaragoza visit. We came in for an early lunch on a Thursday. It definitely is a must if you love good food, prepared with care and inspiration. We had the infamous artichokes, the anchovy appetizer, the lamb shoulder, and the tataki baturro. Nothing disappointed us. We were totally overwhelmed with the flavor combinations and presentation. Definitely share the tikaki. And definitely make a plan to visit and hopefully Suedy and Viorica be your servers.
Sjaak Blaauw★★★★★
Food is of excellent quality, unusual combinations, well excecuted & beautifully presented. Wine list is thoughtfully curated and reasonably priced. The restaurant is modern and thoughtfully designed. Sound is not traveling throughout, more absorbed. So for a chance you can hear your table mates without them having to scream… such a joy in these days where most restaurants make you think that you’re at a heavy metal concert… Service… it was a pleasure observing the staff operating as a team, effortlessly so. It was like watching a play! Our main server knew the menu inside out, was personable and made us feel like guests. kudos to whomever orchestrates this!

An umami explosion in this award winning restaurant by Alex Vinãl! The umami Marino and the Russian/potato salad were our favourite! Carolina, the girl who served was adorable! So engaging and welcoming! We had a very nice discussion with her and she served us with such care and so gracefully!
Paul Pithers★★★★☆
Food was good, unfortunately the service was soulless and the constant walking of boxes past my table was off putting, the service girls need to smile more and not unpack drinks by my head (seated next to the bar) banging and making noises breaking down cardboard boxes at the end of the bar . It would be a fourstar for food and 3 star for atmosphere and service . You should not 🚫 prepare the bar in the middle of service. Bad form .great job chefs, great job 👏I will say that nearly every dish was sweet and after finishing the meal I felt that there was too much sweetness throughout the menu for me to enjoy a balanced flavour experience. The sweetness of the Cannelloni was actually not enjoyable although edible. Sometimes less is more and each dish was very complex in flavours by the end I was actually regretting asking for cheese cake . Water was from a plastic bottle and not glass . It was my 20th wedding anniversary today and my wife chose Nolan Gras , I am ok with the overall experience but it did not wow me , I think the Taco was my favourite and yes it was sweet too ,
Martín Pellicano★★★★★
Excellent place. Make reservation in advance on website. Every dish is so different from the rest that the best advice I can give is to taste them all. As a personal recommendation go with 2 plates per person and share your choice with your +1 to leave no taste behind. My favorite are the ravioli “Marco Polo”and the “Secreto a la brasa” but I would say to eat the later as the last one because to enjoy more the rest of the dishes.
Maria Perilli★★★★★
Incredible restaurant, the food is the most amazing I’ve ever had! I was pleasantly surprised by the variety of flavors and cultural influences. The quality of the ingredients is unmatched. Not to be missed while visiting, enjoy! (Be sure to make reservations)

Amazing experience at this restaurant. The food is great and the service even better. The waitress was super kind and helpful. I can totally recommend this restaurant! The Cheesecake tastes a little to cheesy though

They have different kind of tasting menu starting from 40€/pax, up to 60€/pax. We took the one of 55€ and was really worthy. The only contra the service is a bit slow but at the same time is understandable, the restaurant is completely full....

La Bodega de Chema delivered an outstanding dining experience. The food was amazing and Jaime provided exceptional service that goes above and beyond, as he translated our poor Spanish, and helped us make perfect dish choices. If you are looking for a great meal, look no further. You have found the place to eat in Zaragoza!

Here’s the English version of your text: We took my aunt to eat here during the Christmas season. Even so, the service was excellent. We chose the “menú aragonés,” which allowed us to try the delicious local migas. We had ternasco, and my husband ordered cod, which, although it cost a little more, was delicious. We highly recommend this place! Located in old town do better use public transport.
Constantinos Calogirou★★★★★
A memorable experience of local food and service, well done!

Must reserve your table since it is very popular with locals. Arogonese grilled meats precede by spectacular starters and followed by delicious deserts, wine and coffee. Great restaurant.
Honest Reviews Only★★★★★
Made a lunch stop here during our drive from Girona to San Sebastian. We ordered the set lunch, and it was so so good! The Google reviews for this place were spot on. The service staff were lovely, and every dish we ordered from the set lunch was just amazing. The memorable dishes were the lamb tripe, which was prepared in a way that it wasn't chewy at all, and the pork dish that was perfectly crispy on the outside, with every piece just melting in my mouth. We had such a wonderful experience, and will definitely go back if we're visiting Zaragoza again.
Laura P★★★★★
Great food, nicely decorated, good service. Very good prices if you take the menu of the day (from Tuesday to Friday, at noon): with 20 euro per person you receive first course, second course, desert, water and wine. Big portions. Can’t say anything bad about this place, I would gladly come here again

Stumbled across this little place on our way back to the hotel and what a stroke of luck! One of the most authentic Spanish tavernas in the city. Although the waitresses didnt speak English, they were ever so patient and helpful in guiding us through the menu helping us to order. LAlthough not cheap, the Octopus and the Cachopo were delicious and filling. The wine was very good as well! The rest of the food that was being served up looked great as well. Recommend!!
Susanne (Suzie)★★★★★
My boyfriend and I went out for dinner - the place was very busy, but they still managed to find us two seats at the counter. Everything was truly delicious. The ham and cheeses were really special and of excellent quality, and the same goes for the octopus and the meat. Highly recommended!
Camelia Georgiana Din★★★★★
Excelent food, servive and atmosphere!!! The beat cheese cake(dessert) that i have tasted. Just great for a perfect food!
Anthony Durkin★★★★★
Myself and my partner had the best tapas ever at this place. The service from Paco was fantastic and the restaurant was so busy and it was a Tuesday evening!
CON ENT★★★★★
We walked in without a reservation (rookie mistake!) and were met with surprise — apparently everyone books ahead. The staff hesitated at first but quickly went out of their way to fit us in. What luck! Everything was fantastic: cheese with garlic, anchovies, tuna, and the veal cheeks (Kalbsbäckchen). And the wine… just perfect. A delightful spot with genuine hospitality and incredible food. Highly recommended — but make a reservation!

We wanted a nice meal that wasn’t overrun with people and stumbled upon this place. It was a 15-20 minute walk from Old Town in a non-descriptive building. I thought that we were in the wrong place. We didn’t have reservations but they (luckily) were able to accommodate us. We were able to get by with our passable Spanish. They had an English menu. We’re so glad that we went as the meal was a pleasant surprise. If you’re into vermouth, the you’re in luck as they have a great selection. We got complimentary bread and little shot of soup. We tried the false baby squid which was served with some fancy special effects. Sooo good! The meatballs with truffle was out of the world. The server offered me a nice local Gewürztraminer. Divine!

While journeying from Madrid to the Pyrenees, the need to halt for a meal became apparent. Zaragoza, lying midway, emerged as the logical choice for dining. My search for Zaragoza restaurants quickly led me to Mazmorra, spotlighted by its lofty Google Maps ratings as the second-best restaurant in Zaragoza. The urge to experience it was instant. Upon arrival, it was the onset of lunchtime, and the place was noticeably unoccupied. Despite this, a brief hesitation due to reservations was encountered. However, once we mentioned our journey and intent to dine and depart within an hour, they graciously accommodated us at a table. This proactive approach to customer service, even amidst uncertainty, set the stage for what was to become a memorable dining experience. Situated in an unremarkable neighborhood, Mazmorra doesn't immediately impress as one of the top restaurants of a mid-sized city. The ambiance upon entering did not scream exceptional. Yet, certain details hinted that this was no ordinary place. Eager for a taste of uniqueness, we ordered a variety of 5-6 starters and main courses. It was evident that great care was put into the presentation of the dishes. The tapas offered a departure from the typical fare found in Spanish restaurants. While the meats were far from disappointing, they also didn't boast the extraordinary flavors we anticipated. Ultimately, we explored different tastes, but the overall performance fell short of the expectations set by the restaurant's high ratings.
Robert Krecker★★★★★
Very good food with local ingredients and a fantastic service, I can highly recommend this restaurant.
Lorna O. Davison (Anrold)★★★★★
Frequented by locals the food here is exceptional. I had the best meatballs in 71 years. The truffle sauce could not have been better. The marcona almonds added just the right amount of crunchy flavor. The servers were warm, friendly and very competant. On the list of very memorable meals in my life.

I found this restaurant in a random search and I am forever changed! From first appetizers to the final dessert, each dish was prepared amazingly and was mouth-watering and beautifully presented. Our waiter was patient with our broken Spanish and hilarious— he also had great recommendations! From start to finish this was more than a meal, it was an experience. And a fabulous one at that!
Benny Kwong★★★★☆
We tried thee red wine by the glass and they were good selections. Very attentive service. Their dessert menu is not up to date with many dessert items weren't available that evening. Tapas and other main dishes were all good, but not spectacular for about €60 per person with wine.
Emilie★★★★★
Very good experience, the staff was so nice and explain us what was the best to try, the food was fresh and the concept very local!
Kay Bee★★★☆☆
The only table available for 2 was outside. We thought that we picked out until 2 separate tables started lighting up their cigarettes throughout dinner. It’s a shame because it made it hard to enjoy the meal when all I can taste was ten cigarette. It was a nice evening. You can see the edge of the church. The food, drinks and staff were amazing. We had a late lunch so we could finish the final dish.
Liana Kiseleva★★★★★
We visited Zaragoza for just couple of hours, chose this restaurant to have lunch and didn’t regret for a second! We loved it! As my son asked me to write: “If we could give more starts, we would definitely do!” Starting with the greeting and continuing with the advice and being super supportive with the kids’ menu and my preference of the salad which they didn’t have in the menu – everything was amazing! Especially homemade gazpacho and 10stars Lamb leg (Gabi Orte). We were super lucky with the best server ever Jose – thank you so much for such a great experience 🧡

This restaurant offers a fantastic gastronomic experience. It’s easy to see that the chef is very talented, all the dishes were fantastic. The sommelier was very friendly and recommended a lovely regional wine. Definitely recommended
Christian Breitkreutz★★★★★
Spectacular restaurant. When I walked in I was afraid that it was closed. Or - even worse - not visited at all. But when the staff came around he took me up to the second floor where the lunch restaurant is located. I went for the tasting menu for 59 Euros and I did not regret it at all. It started with four appetizers. Bites, rolls and a soup. Next was my favorite: chicken filled ravioli with a strong mushroom aroma. After that grilled fish and braised super tender beef. The menu came to an end with two wonderful desserts. I would definitely come back. Great discovery. If you plan to come check out their opening times. The time windows are quite small.

Tasting menu was absolutely amazing, visually but also a great combination of flavours. Very good service and they accommodated us even if we arrived late and without any reservation. Must try if you are around.

A bit pretentious for my liking. The food was nice, but the size was really tiny. The sirloin was really overcooked even though I ordered rare. The place is really charming and the staff too.

Delightful small restaurant, only about 10 tables. You definitely need to book, several disappointed customers were turned away. On paper the menu was fairly standard but the quality was superb with really attentive service that timed the arrival of each dish to perfection. A little more expensive than elsewhere but only a little.

After having visited several other beautiful cities in Spain and experienced so many yummy dishes, we came to Casa Unai to find out what more one can expect of this country! Excellent service and quality of dishes and wines they offer! We had a lovely lunch first, then we came back again for the dinner! Thank you very much for your great service.

We were looking for a good seafood restaurant and found this perfect spot. Very kind staff, a cozy enviornment in a rather small place so you can feel the familiarity in the room. Well the food was perfect. We rarely had so well cooked seafood, so moist and delicious. Simple, but very tasty. Each bite is a new experience. A must try place in Zaragoza!

This is such an amazing place, well worth the price. You will have to book well in advance (months ahead, especially on a weekend booking) and plan on having a long lunch. From there on, everything is fantastic. Lots of small but beautifully presented, deliciously tasting dishes. The wine menu and pairing to the meal could be improved a bit, but on the other hand the prices were extremely reasonable. Do go to this place of you have the time to spend and the will to plan in advance, you won't regret it

Fantastic service,. Good foodie experience. 40€ fixed menu set.

Fantastic dinner with an excellent service. Each meal was delicious with very nice choice of Spanish wines to pair with. For such quality the price we paid is very modest.
Stella So★★★★★
The quality of all the ingredients was excellent, and the dishes were all made with amazing creativity and attention to detail. Recommendations: The food was a bit too salty for my liking. I had to eat the bread at the same time to dilute the saltiness. Also, it was excellent that they places the bread on hot stones to keep it warm. However, after the first couple of dishes, the stones (and the bread) was no longer warm, and I just wish they could design something to keep the bread warm throughout the whole meal. Thank you.

Absolutely amazing lunch with impeccable service and incredible dishes. It was worth the wait (you have to book well in advance). Also the price was good (50€ per person for a fixed menu with multiple dishes. We also got a bottle of really good wine for 29€).

Outstanding! Food was delicious. Service was wonderful. Huge and complex flavours and textures with a lot of variety. Stand outs were the salmon tartare and the chicken satay. Reasonable wine. Good beer. Dining room is plain and brightly lit.

I love this approach, menu with several selected dishes and brought to perfection. No endless menus. They look good to the eye but taste even better. All ingredients serve their purpose, no "extras" just to make it richer or to look better. They also give you short guides on how to best savor/consume the dish, although that's totally optional.
Mitko “MrSir” Tochev★★★★★
This was an unexpected surprise. We were actually waiting in line at another restaurant close by and didn't want to wait, so we took a chance on this place. My god did it not disappoint. We liked it so much that we ended up making a reservation to come back the following night for dinner again. There were just too many tasty looking dishes to try all at once. All of their food items have an incredible palette and balance. Even things as simple as a russian salad are elevated by adding additional emulsions of olives and sweet potatoes. The risotto is exactly what risotto should be. Mushroomy, truffly, cheese goodness. They hadn't used the traditional rice for it either which gave it more texture. The fried chicken and potatoes had a similar wide array of flavours that complimented each other. The cold cuscus side dish in the middle of the plate broke down the smooth warm mushiness of the potatoes, and added a little crispness to the whole dish. The octopus dish came with another interesting selection of sorbet and sauces that when mixed together went just heavenly with the slightly charred fresh octopus tentacles. My wife was pregnant when we visited so we asked for the steak dish to be more on the well done side. That did not in anyway seem to take away from the taste or texture of the cut. Similar themes of alchemy and mixology carried through with the desert. The staff was really friendly and even though most of them didn't speak English, they quickly sent their young server over who did. She was very thorough and did a great job translating and explaining what each dish was, instead of leaving us at the mercy of google translate. Overall 5/5, this was everything we looked for in a restaurant and so far the best food we have had in our trip to northern Spain. PS: don't bother with the lineup at Mr. Dumbo down the road.

Very friendly people and breathtaking place.

Walked 30mins here for supper as listed under Indian restaurants on tripadvisor but isn't. After lots of laughs, signing and animal noises the waitresses and I deciphered the menu. So I had a tapas size but plenty of hummous with flad bread, hot pieces of lamb and quarters of tomato on top. It was delicious and other people's food looked interesting and imaginatively served. Before my meal arrived i was given what I translated to be a local dish of tempured fried borage leaves -again delicious. This, the waitress told me, was on the house so all I paid was 5 euros. Such a fun hour with excellent food and such lovely staff in a back street away from the town centre but obviously well known by the locals. Thank you and well deserved 5 stars. Adios

Ground floor was too crowded and noisy but we were offered a table on the upper floor where the service staff and atmosphere was excellent. Order taking was friendly and efficient. Food was served very fast and tasted delicious. Good for a quick stop and recharge in the hot afternoon.

This place is phenomenal! The food, the service, the ambiance...5+ stars! It's absolutely worth waiting for. The tapas are outstanding and Dmitri our waiter, (sorry if incorrect spelling) was above and beyond on making all of the patrons feel special and welcomed. You definitely can't beat the price, but importantly you can't beat the taste! It's a must if you are in Zaragoza.

We arrived early, perhaps too early to get much atmosphere, but the food itself was excellent and well-priced. I recommend the meatballs (pictured) especially.

We are visiting from Miami and we traveled to Zaragoza to meet a friend from Madrid. Walked around the city and found this wonderful restaurant. The wine and tapa selection was incredible, and the food delicious! Our waiter Carlos was extraordinary and served a very busy crowd with a smile on his face. We will definitely be back in the near future.

Service is good and fast, the food tasted good but the portions are extremely small. It is not worth the price, for 2-3 bites you pay around 5 euros per tapa. We left hungry and annoyed because we were debating between a Mexican restaurant vs this one. And by the time we left Meli the mexican restaurant was closed. We regret not trying the mexican restaurant since it clearly had better portions for the price and raving reviews.

Casa Lac was one of the highlights of our time in Zaragoza. The restaurant beautifully showcases Aragonese cuisine with outstanding local produce, refined cooking and impeccable service in a historic setting. The Pencas de acelga rellenas de jamón ibérico were exceptional—delicate Swiss chard stems stuffed with Iberian ham and served in a silky mushroom velouté. It's easy to see why they're the restaurant's signature dish. We also loved the Patatas confitadas con huevo a baja temperatura y trufa, a beautifully presented confit potato with creamy low-temperature egg and truffle that was rich, comforting and packed with flavour. The Albóndigas crujientes de venado y cerdo ibérico sobre fondo de parmentier were another highlight—crispy on the outside, tender inside, with the venison and Iberian pork creating a wonderfully rich flavour, perfectly complemented by the smooth potato parmentier. For dessert, we chose the apple tart, which was beautifully made with crisp pastry, perfectly cooked apples and just the right balance of sweetness. We paired the meal with the local Terrae Finca La Dehesa Garnacha Blanca, an excellent organic wine from Aragón that complemented every course perfectly. From the warm, professional service to the exceptional food and wine, Casa Lac fully deserves its reputation. A must-visit for anyone looking to experience authentic Aragonese cuisine in Zaragoza.

We had an amazing dining experience! ✨ It was our first time visiting Zaragoza, and we were truly amazed by the food. The soup is an absolute must-try—so delicious that I ended up using bread to wipe the bowl clean! 😂 (I’m no food critic, but trust me, it’s that good.) The steak was also very nice, though I’d recommend visitors try some of the other fantastic dishes on the menu. And the dessert… wow. Simply incredible! A wonderful meal from start to finish. Highly recommend!

The atmosphere really adds to the experience. It’s welcoming, clean, and has a relaxed vibe that makes you want to stay and enjoy your meal. Whether you’re going for something healthy or just want a good, fresh meal, this spot definitely delivers.

Two days in a row. This tell you how much we loved this place. Amazing service - shout out to Angelo and the food tapas and daily menu are superb. We tried the pea soup and tomato soup with such as entree and don’t skip on the cheesecake - wow amazingly good. A whole another level of gastronomy experience. Today we will try the ternasco de Aragon - a must they say when you’re in Zaragoza ( suckling lamb ) - wow. Tender and succulent and delish. A dish to remember Loved their ribera wines as well as white wine Rueda. Definitely a must to try when you’re in town
Jica Coronel★★★★★
The “local” food here was good. We had the lamb dish, local vegetable dish, ravioli dish (highlighted on menu photo) and French toast dessert. The place gets really busy closer to 3pm (large groups). You may also opt to eat from the tapas menu and sit outside.

I would definitely visit again—this is the best restaurant I’ve been to on my Spain trip so far. 🥰🥰🥰 Every dish was absolutely delicious and beautifully prepared. The staff were also wonderful: friendly, kind, and very helpful. Everything was excellent. A truly memorable dining experience!

Very cute, welcoming restaurant. Cute decorations with murals of the city and delicious food. We had the pork in wine sauce and the solomillo. Both were perfectly cooked and full of flavor. I also had the lemon sorbet with champagne which I wasn’t expecting to be so creamy - very pleasantly surprised. The kitchen usually closes at 3:30pm, they kept it open an extra 20 minutes waiting for us to arrive, they were so lovely!

Classic traditional restaurant from Aragón. The food was tasty but a bit heavy, nothing wrong with that, as it’s part of the culture. Lovely family-style atmosphere and super friendly owners. A nice place for a casual meal, full of locals, with fantastic value for money.

Best food I've had in Spain so far! I was looking for ternasco/lamb and found it at La Riconada de Lorenzo. Ternasco is a regional specialty. We had a lamb crepe in wine sauce, Aragon chorizo, Monkfish in marinara with crayfish and clams, roasted Aragon lamb/ternasco with potatoes, lemon and raspberry sorbretto for dessert, finished with tea and scotch. Crazy good roasted lamb.

The food was exceptional! The artichoke was my favorite. So delicious! The migas was surprisingly good with the grapes that our waitress recommended. And the lamb shoulder was so rich. Simply divine

A great choice for enjoying Cuban cuisine. I tried Timbal de arroz con ternera served with fried platano maduro chips and a fried egg. I particularly enjoyed the chips. As for dessert, I had a Cuban tart, which looked like a birthday cake, it was incredibly sweet!
Juan Uribe★★★★☆
Very decent Cuban cuisine restaurant with decently sized plates. The tamal is delcious, and the honey mustard Paladar salad is also good. Very friendly staff, some of them are Cuban.

Can't believe I hadn't found this place before. Delicious authentic Cuban food. Went with some friends and we got different dishes to try them all. Can't wait to go back.

Practical Tips for Dining in Zaragoza

To truly enjoy the culinary scene in Zaragoza, it helps to understand a few local customs and logistical details that can make or break your experience. From timing your meals correctly to knowing what to order, a little preparation goes a long way in ensuring you eat like a local rather than a lost tourist. Here are the essential strategies for navigating the city’s food landscape effectively.

1. Master the "Menú del Día"
The best value in the city is the fixed-price lunch menu offered on weekdays. Usually priced between €15 and €25, it includes a starter, a main course, dessert, bread, and a drink. This is how working locals eat, and it allows you to try high-end cuisine at a fraction of the dinner price.

2. Go Early or Go Late for Tapas
If you are visiting El Tubo on a Friday or Saturday night, be prepared for crowds. Locals typically start their tapas crawl around 8:00 PM, but the real rush hits at 9:30 PM. Arrive just as the bars open for a more relaxed experience, or embrace the chaos and push your way to the bar—it is part of the charm.

3. Order the Local Wine
Skip the international brands and ask for a "crianza" from the Somontano, Cariñena, or Campo de Borja appellations. These Aragonese wines are often incredibly affordable and pair perfectly with the rich, savory flavors of the local cuisine. A glass of red Garnacha is usually cheaper than a bottle of water.

4. Don’t Skip the Vegetables
It might be tempting to focus solely on meat, but Aragonese vegetables are a revelation. Look for dishes featuring "Borraja" (borage) or "Cardo" (cardoon), especially in winter. These fibrous, earthy greens are cooked in ways that highlight their unique textures and are a point of regional pride.

5. Check for Closures
Many of the best traditional restaurants close on Sunday evenings and all day Monday. Additionally, August can be tricky as some family-run establishments take their annual holidays. Always check the restaurant’s social media or make a quick phone call to avoid a wasted trip.

Zaragoza rewards the curious eater. It is a city where you can stand at a marble bar eating a single perfect tapa in five minutes, then sit down for a three-hour lunch that feels like a family gathering. The lack of pretense is refreshing; even the most acclaimed chefs here remain grounded in the hospitality of the region.

As you plan your visit, remember that the best meals often come from wandering without a strict itinerary. Allow yourself to get lost in the side streets of the Casco Viejo, follow the sound of clinking glasses, and ask the person next to you what they are eating. That is where the true flavor of Zaragoza lies.
