15 Best Pizza Spots in Marseille

There is something undeniably magical about eating pizza in Marseille. Perhaps it is the proximity to the Mediterranean, the scent of salt in the air, or the city’s deep-rooted Italian heritage that dates back centuries. In this bustling port city, pizza is not viewed as fast food or a late-night afterthought; it is a culinary institution, a source of local pride, and a daily ritual for many residents.

The Marseille pizza scene is refreshingly diverse, offering a fascinating split between two distinct styles. On one side, you have the iconic “pizza camion” culture, where beloved food trucks have been slinging wood-fired pies from the same street corners for decades. On the other, a new wave of passionate Neapolitan artisans is elevating the dish with slow-fermented doughs and premium imported ingredients.

Navigating this crowded landscape can be overwhelming for both first-time visitors and long-time locals. With hundreds of trucks, trattorias, and modern pizzerias scattered across the city’s diverse arrondissements, the choice of where to eat can be paralyzing. Knowing which spots prioritize quality ingredients over cheap fillers is the key to a memorable meal.

This guide aims to cut through the noise and bring you straight to the best dough in the city. We have considered the quality of the char, the tang of the sauce, the integrity of the crust, and the atmosphere of the location. Whether you are looking for a quick slice by the Old Port or a sit-down dinner with a view, Marseille has a pie for you.

Below, you will find a curated selection of the best places to satisfy your craving, ranging from legendary institutions to hidden neighborhood gems. Get ready to discover why Marseille is often considered the undisputed pizza capital of France.

A truly SPLENDID experience! ✨ Just like its name says: Splendid! The food was a 10/10 🤤, but what truly made our visit special was the amazing team. From the moment you arrive, the lovely receptionist welcomes you warmly and escorts you to your table. Our waiter, Francesco, was absolutely wonderful—attentive, friendly, helpful, and so accommodating when communicating in another language. ❤️ We also met the bartender, who came directly to our table to bring us our drinks. He told us he is from Equatorial Guinea, which is why he speaks Spanish. Everyone was incredibly kind and welcoming! 🥰 The atmosphere is already beautiful thanks to the stunning design, but the wonderful staff makes it even more special. Without a doubt, our favorite restaurant in Marseille 🇫🇷❤️. Would we come back? Absolutely! We’d return every time we visit Marseille. ✨

Although the average of the rated metrics is below 3, I rounded my rating up to 3 solely because of our server, Max, whose outstanding hospitality and constant smile stood out despite the apparent team issues around him. First of all, the rude attitude of the greeter overseeing the seating was unacceptable. Shouting at guests and calling them to follow from halfway across the room? Why not guide guests properly and handle the situation professionally? Secondly, the décor was excessively overdone — especially the plastic flowers covering the ceiling. But why? The extravagant decoration seemed to overshadow the kitchen’s work and the presentation of the dishes. Perhaps intentionally so, to distract from the mediocre food. Yes, the ingredients were fresh, and the flavors showed some balance and contrast, but with such a limited menu, I expected every plate to offer something memorable. Instead, it was a complete disappointment. Last but not least, serving both the entrée and the main course with the same cutlery — and asking guests to keep it while clearing the plates — felt completely inconsistent with the restaurant’s exaggerated attempt at sophistication. It reflected poor table etiquette and lack of attention to detail. I agree with the other reviews there is nothing particularly impressive about the food. However, if you are simply looking for an Instagrammable place, then it may still be worth a visit. Finally, despite specifically ticking the box requesting a management response in the survey they asked us to complete, there has been absolutely no follow-up or acknowledgment.

The experience, the decor, the staff, the food, everything about Splendido was amazing! Highly recommend if you're in the area. The only little caveat is that my wife and I are a bit sensitive to Air Conditioning and their tables for 2 all have A/C blowing over them. That said, the staff graciously moved us outside and everythig went smoothly from the service transition to the food and the care. Thank you to everyone that accommodated and served us!
Gul Kazmaz★★★★★
We visited this Italian restaurant and both the bar and the décor were amazing. I especially loved the bathroom design. We started with Caesar salad and arancini, which were very tasty. The portions were quite large. We had pizza and risotto, and both were truly excellent. For dessert, we had tiramisu, which was perfect. The service and staff were very friendly and welcoming. We were very satisfied overall and would definitely recommend this Italian restaurant in Marseille.
Nadiia Rudenko★★★★☆
Great spot if you’re coming for pizza and cocktails — that’s definitely what this place does best. The pizza was genuinely delicious: flavorful, well-made, and definitely worth ordering. I also really enjoyed the truffle rice balls — such a tasty starter and one of the highlights of the meal. The risotto, however, was a bit disappointing. It was seafood risotto, but there was very little fish in it, and it felt like there was far too much rice compared to the actual seafood. The pasta was also just average and didn’t stand out. So my honest recommendation: come here for the pizza, cocktails, and appetizers — they’re great. But if you’re specifically craving pasta or seafood risotto, this probably wouldn’t be my first choice.

Love everything here from the cheerful convivial atmosphere to of course the pizza! Pizza Champêtre looks and taste amazing - the ricotta cheese, oyster mushroom and roquette are superb combination of texture and flavours. The Parma harm starter was lovely and I enjoyed the robust house red. Service was very welcoming. Definitely need to book - it was packed on a Wednesday evening.

came here on a wednesdey evening - not a lot of people, so very chill ambiente. the pizza was delicious, very good dough without beeing “too doughy” like other neapolitan pizzas. i had an Nduja, so spicy but the added honey made it super tasty! also a “castagna” beer, which was a novelty for me. if i’m ever in town again, i’ll be sure to come back ❤️‍🔥 hopefully they will have cookies next time i come visit… 😜

Best pizza I’ve had! Run by really kind italian owners who were very accommodating and even explained the entire menu to us in English. It was not greasy at all and very filling. Definitely worth visiting and an authentic experience!

La Casa di Mario is a small true Italian restaurant and pizzeria in the Vieux Port area, just behind the Opéra de Marseille. They can proudly display the “50 Top Pizza” badge, a guide to the best Neapolitan pizzerias in the World. That’s the reason why I went there. And, since their pizza is actually excellent, I visited them twice during my “marseillais stay” Delicious food. Great service. Fair prices. Highly recommended. For the record, the same owners have also another restaurant in the same neighborhood, Le Tribeca de Mario.
Nicky Blondé★★★★★
Best pizza I ever had! Wow what a taste bomb and the crust is superb. Also very friendly service from Malek. If you’re in Marseille you’ll definitely need to stop by.
Marco Hensold (El_Comandante)★★★★★
I usually don’t go to the same place twice when I’m traveling, but the pizza here was so good that I had to come back and try another one. I had the Nduja and the Diavola, and both were amazing.

Very popular place. The pizzas here are delicious and enormous. Definitely need 2 people to eat 1 pizza. The pizza du chef with the pistachio crust is amazing. You have to try it. I ended up chatting with both tables either side of me with fellow diners who were incredibly friendly and had a really pleasant evening even though my French is terrible.
Bernard Algharib★★★★★
We tried La Tribeca on a Saturday night and it was very busy, with lots of people, but despite that the service was surprisingly fast and efficient. The outdoor seating is really nice and adds to the overall experience. We ordered several pizzas as well as the ravioli with truffle and burrata, and everything was absolutely delicious. The pizzas have a really great crust and the portions are generous, which we really appreciated. Overall, a great spot with good food and a lively atmosphere, definitely worth visiting.
Beth Kelly★★★★★
We visited this restaurant in March 2026. The food was excellent. Everything we ordered was great. We've had pizza in many countries including Italy and this is top notch ingredients and taste! It was very busy and we sat down the waiter was warm, kind and he assisted us with wine selection; we didn't realize he was the owner until ready to leave. As a final gesture of kindness he agreed to take a picture with me and made my heart smile. Thank you for a wonderful experience! Highly recommend this establishment.
Carswift★★★★★
Went there recommended by my sister who visited in 2023. Pizza is really good, tomato sauce is authentic, dough is proper stuff. Would definitely go back if in Marseille. It is super busy and getting a table can be tricky.
Arun Sharma★★★★★
Amazing pizza! I really wasn't expecting anything fantastic, but I was very wrong. A lovely location right on the marina, with beautiful views. A reasonable amount of outdoor seating, protected from the wind and rain. We had the gnocchi inside a pizza dough bowl, and a Diavola pizza. Both very amazing. Lovely airy dough, incredible sauce and flavours. Prices were on the high side, but €50 for 3 drinks and 2 main meals was acceptable. Would recommend

It is written happy hours for cocktails but when we ordered a cocktail during the happy hours, the waiter said the cocktails are not in the happy hours. I ordered the tripleta, it was good and tasty, my wife ordered the truffle one but she was very disappointed because she did not feel the truffle taste at all, it was more a cheese pizza than truffle pizza lol. Plus the service was not extraordinary. The location is central so it is a good thing. Once again no hard feeling here, we are just telling our experience the day we were, not telling it is always like that.

We arrived late to our hotel. Pizza is never high on our choices but we found this place nearby and we have had one of the finest and freshest pizzas ever. It's no frills but we sat down while the owner cooked and his wife prepared the anchovies and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. We could not speak highly enough of them.
Adam Manfred★★★★★
Nice family run spot for wood fired fresh pizza. You can watch them make it and they are very fast less than 10 minutes for 3 pizzas. Staff is friendly and welcoming to tourists (speaks multiple languages including English). My French is not very good and the gentlemen reminded me that with 3 pizzas you get a free drink which in other places they would not have offered. Good, honest, service and delicious pizza. Highly recommend the Armenian pizza!

The staff here is incredibly kind! The hostess has amazing english and was super friendly. The delicious pizza and free water was the cherry on top. Cant recommend it more!

Found ourselves hungry after traveling to Marseilles from Washington DC. It was Sunday and we struggled to find a restaurant open. We met the owner and he told us of the multigenerational recipe for his wood fire pizza. It was delicious and ready for us very quickly. The home maid crust was amazing. It is definitely a repeater for us.

Nice spot and the people are very friendly. The pizza here is especially good and I’ve ordered it to go numerous times. Finally went in person and the outdoor space is nice (but remember to bring mosquito repellant). I tried the lasagna which was good, a classic lasagna. I’d probably stick to the pizza as it’s especially delicious.

Superb authentic Italian restaurant. I am a big pizza lover and i have visited some famous pizzerias around the globe, like in Italy, Paris, Singapore. I can say that I really loved the taste of pizza's here and quality of products used are good too. They have special pizza's with Zucchini base instead of tomato or white cream base. If you visit here then do give it a try. Also, probably this is the first Italian restaurant i have visited, where they put fresh basils directly plucked from the plants inside the shop. Importantly, all the people working here were very polite and kind. Thanks for a good service.
Sabrina Meierhofer★★★★★
This place deserves 6 stars. The service is kind, everyone very sympatic, even the cooks, but the waitress is the best. It has a nice, clean and confortable little place for eating there, well decorated, where locals eat. But the best off all is the food. We fell in love with it. Sadly we had to return from our vacations in Marseille, now my little son keeps asking if they can send us food by plane 😂 So, if you are traveling, passing by, on vacation, or even have the luck to live there, please visit in our behalf.

The best Italian restaurant in Marseille. Gabriele is the best server I’ve met at any restaurant, you will always be greeted with warmth and a smile. The restaurant is spacious and cozy, so you know you are very welcome to spend a great evening there. Every dish is consistently well made and the pizza bufala is to die for. I also highly recommend the antipasti and the cannoli! Don’t hesitate and just come visit this restaurant, it will be your new favorite

Excellent food and service! To start, we ate the Insalata Italiana (not pictured) that was incredible. We ate the carbonara and the risotto della nonna, both equally amazing (we would definitely reccomend the risotto! We were a little skeptical about it, but it turned out to be incredible). We also chose a very pleasant Italian rosé wine. To top it off we had the profiteroles. Just delicious! Definitely worth trying (we shared it between two people). The service and the ambiance were also spot on! Great place!

Marseille june 11th 2025 The welcome is excellent. We were directed to the terrace for a table of 4 people. Léa, the waitress, quickly takes our orders with great cordiality. The service is impeccable, fast, efficient, and friendly. The food is very good. I really enjoyed my tuna tartare and a pavlova for dessert. If you want to have a good time with friends around a good table, I highly recommend this restaurant.

Best Italian in Marseille! We loved Trattoria Partenope! The food was absolutely delicious and so authentic - it felt like we were in Naples. Big portions, fresh ingredients and great value. The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming to our family. Lively atmosphere right in the Old Port. Highly recommend if you want real Italian food. We will definitely come back!

No loud music maybe we came earlier. We ordered escalope, Milanese , they are excellent 👌.service is good. Next time I want to try their pizza. I ate too much authentic Naples pizza in France already but still want because I can't have authentic pizza back in the US.

The craziest (in a good way) restaurant I’ve been to so far! And some of the best Italian food I’ve ever tasted! At first, we got a margherita pizza and a tartufo. Both were excellent, just how they should be made. But seeing how amazing the dishes at other tables looked and how good they smelled as they passed by, we decided to come back for another round. So, we returned a few days later! This time, we started with some arancini that were even better than the ones I had in Palermo! Then came the 'Milanese,' an incredible chicken escalope, served with some very tasty and fragrant pasta, plus the Vesuvio pasta with burrata that still makes my mouth water when I think about it! The surprise at the end was the very reasonable bill we paid. Walking into this place feels like being teleported from Marseille straight to Naples! You get the exact vibe of the famous Italian city, not just in the way the restaurant is decorated but also in the warm and lively way the staff and regulars interact. If you’re looking for somewhere quiet, this might not be the place for you. But if you’re after a lively, authentic atmosphere and a night to remember, this trattoria is definitely the answer! I think their motto should be 'we'll make it work!' because they truly had a solution for every situation, even if it was a bit unexpected. Let me explain briefly: we first showed up on a very busy Sunday evening, and at first glance, there were no tables available. But they made it happen, and like magic, spots opened up. I won’t spoil the surprise of how the menu is presented, but it’s funny, you’ll see! When we came back a few days later, they had run out of the amazing ice cream served in a lemon or orange. No problem—they made it work and served it in a glass, swapping the lemon with limoncello on the spot. It turned out to be fantastic! Definitely recommended and worth five stars, with just one note: the second time we went when it was less crowded, the music was a bit loud.

If I could, I would give trattoria 6 starts. What an authentic delicious Italian experience I had with my daughter on the last evening of our French holidays. Both the food, service, venue, atmosphere are unforgettable. What a gem!!!!

Essential Tips for Enjoying Pizza in Marseille

To truly eat like a local, it helps to understand the unwritten rules of the Marseille pizza scene. The culture here is unique, blending French dining habits with Italian culinary precision. By adjusting your expectations and timing, you can avoid tourist traps and eat exactly like a true Marseillais.

1). Know the “Truck” vs. “Table” Difference

Decide what kind of experience you want before you set out. The legendary pizza trucks (camions) are perfect for a casual, affordable, and incredibly fast dinner, usually eaten on a bench or by the sea. Traditional sit-down pizzerias offer a more relaxed pace, better wine lists, and often a more refined dough, but require reservations, especially on weekends.

2). Respect the French Dinner Schedule

If you want to beat the rush at the most popular trucks or restaurants, arrive early. Most kitchens and trucks don’t get busy until 8:00 PM or later. Showing up at 7:00 PM will often mean a shorter wait and a hotter pizza. If you arrive at 9:30 PM on a Saturday, be prepared to queue, as this is the peak dinner hour in Marseille.

3). Embrace the Local Specialties

While a classic Margherita is a great test of quality, Marseille has its own unique twists. Look for pizzas featuring local anchovies, Emmental cheese (a French favorite that differs from Italian mozzarella), or spicy North African merguez sausage. These regional toppings reflect the city’s unique cultural melting pot and are rarely found outside of France.

4). Check the Wood Fire

Not all heat is created equal. The best pizzas in Marseille, whether from a truck or a restaurant, are cooked in wood-fired ovens. The high heat and smoky flavor are essential for achieving the leopard-spotted char on the crust. If you see an electric oven in a tourist-heavy area near the Vieux-Port, it is usually best to walk away.

5). Go Beyond the Old Port

While the Vieux-Port is beautiful for a stroll, the dining options directly on the water are often overpriced and cater to tourists. To find the best quality-to-price ratio, venture into the neighborhoods. Areas like Endoume, Le Camas, and Notre-Dame-du-Mont are where you will find the true neighborhood favorites where locals eat weekly.

The beauty of Marseille’s pizza culture lies in its accessibility and lack of pretense. It is a food that brings together every social class, from fishermen to artists, all united by a love for a perfectly blistered crust and high-quality olive oil. Whether you choose a storied institution or a modern newcomer, you are participating in a tradition that defines the city’s gastronomic identity.

As you explore the city, let your nose guide you toward the scent of burning wood and baking dough. Every corner of Marseille holds a potential new favorite, and the only way to find yours is to eat your way through the list. Buon appetito.
