Aix-en-Provence is a city that seduces the senses long before you even sit down at a table. The ochre facades, the murmur of a hundred fountains, and the golden light of the South of France create an atmosphere that demands exceptional food. While the region is famous for its markets and vineyards, the pizza scene here has quietly become a point of local pride.
In recent years, Aix has moved beyond the standard tourist traps to embrace a culture of wood-fired ovens, slow-fermented doughs, and high-quality Mediterranean toppings. Whether you are a student looking for a late-night slice or a traveler seeking a refined dining experience, the city offers a remarkable range of options. The competition among pizzaiolos is fierce, which means quality standards are incredibly high.
The secret to the best pizza in Aix lies in the ingredients. You will find pies topped with San Marzano tomatoes, creamy fior di latte, locally pressed olive oil, and herbs that taste like they were picked minutes before hitting the dough. Many of the top establishments have also embraced the Neapolitan standard, resulting in blistered, airy crusts that are soft in the middle and crisp on the edge.
However, navigating the sheer volume of pizzerias can be overwhelming, especially if you are only in town for a short visit. From hidden gems tucked away in the narrow streets of the Vieil Aix to bustling terraces on the Cours Mirabeau, the choices are endless. Knowing where the locals actually go is the key to avoiding a mediocre meal.
To help you cut through the noise, we have curated a list based on dough quality, sauce flavor, atmosphere, and consistency. These are not just places to eat; they are destinations that represent the best of Aix’s culinary evolution.
Whether you crave a classic Margherita, a truffle-infused white pizza, or a creative twist on a Provençal favorite, there is a spot on this list for you. Here are the fifteen best pizza spots in Aix-en-Provence that you absolutely must try.

Normally love this place but the older woman today was veerrryyyyy cheap with the portions. Almost no cheese nor arugula. The middle was delicious but after that my sandwich was so sad... 😭

Whenever I come to visit Aix-en-Provence, I always make sure to visit my favourite bakery in France. I’m always greeted with a smile by staff (who can also speak English), the croissants & pan au chocolates are the best I’ve ever had and the bread and baguettes are consistently to the highest standard. I couldn’t recommend this place enough 🥐

Amazing little bakery, with great Coffee and Desserts. Breads are awesome too. Bathroom available to use with purchase, if you stay to eat. Tables overlooking the Kitchen. Friendly Staff

Fabulous bakery we stumbled across. We had a sandwich and a pastry. The bread was perfectly cooked. Crispy on the outside and soft in the middle. Meat was delicious as well. Chocolate croissant was one of the best I’ve had in France. Again perfectly crispy on the outside and soft in the middle. Very reasonable prices and great service. Highly recommend.

À really great little Boulangerie where you can sit inside or outside and have a great breakfast. The staff are hard working and friendly. It is very busy and very popular so you may have to wait! It has a wide range of bread and beautiful cakes and the croissants are the biggest and best ever! You must try!!

Best service in town, but mostly, best bread and sandwiches in town. I had the speck sandwich and it was amazing. The staff were all very kind and it showed that they wanted you to feel welcome. Would definitely go back. I also had the raspberry tart, which, on top of looking fabulous, tasted like heaven.

Gorgeous place and delicious food. A bright and pleasant staff who worked with our lack of French. The Carbonara was incredible. And the Salad Italian was brilliant too. We both loved our meals.
Other pizzas looked great but we’re glad for our choices. Definitely recommend this place.

Unfortunately, this was the most disappointing joint of our French trip. However, saying that, it was still a good time! Especially the cute olive and half moon pizza gimmick!
One server (he has curly hair and glasses) was so nice and caring to all his customers and made me smile, even though he wasn't our waiter. The atmosphere was solid and all, but it started to rain and there was no umbrella, and he offered to move every plate and cup and everything for us. We declined, but it was so nice. Our waitress was pretty nonchalant and distracted by comparison, but she wasn't terrible.
The three cheese pizza my dad got was 100% the highlight. Also, the spreadable Italian chorizo, Nduja, was fantastic on my pizza. However, everything else about my pizza and my mom's and brother's were just really mediocre to bad. The pesto was unfortunately worse than most store bought pestos for me. However, the cheese and crust was wonderful throughout, most toppings were just mediocre outside of that chorizo.
This isn't a place I'd advise somebody not to go to, but I would recommend stopping by "Les fils à maman" just nearby instead. Yes, even if you're craving Italian: because their risotto is fire.

I personally liked everything about this place… the food was great, the staff was friendly, nice and quick. We’ve got our order quite fast. The waiter was very nice and funny. There was nothing to complain about… so definitely worth visiting. I appreciate it’s not a 5* restaurant, however, it’s a 5* restaurant in their niche.

We had a lovely lunch sitting outside. The service was good, they were busy so the waiter was efficient but friendly. We ordered the buffalo tomatoes salad and prosciutto and tomatoes pizza. The portion size was big, we shared the food and left full. The pizza was different from what I am used to, but still good. Would come back to try the pasta.
Edited. We came back to try the pasta Vongole (clam pasta) and it was amazing. Came back the next day for another plate! (Drizzling some of their chili oil kicks up the pasta a notch!)

The pizzas were pretty good, though the dough lacked that fermented fragrance. The tiramisu was a let-down — the biscuit was barely soaked, making it very dry. The service, however, was lovely.

Really nice place with amazing Pizza! The service was so great and friendly, he put a small table up for us to eat in front of the shop.
The Pizza itself is incredible! A big variety of different toppings on a nice thin dough with a perfect crust.
One whole Pizza was more than enough for two people. You can also order sizes for take away that are already prepared and don't take as long as freshly made pizza (of course).
Also speaking English was absolutely no problem and the ambience is just soooo cool!

Victims of their own success? Had booked a table for 12.45. Arrived at 12.40 and were still waiting to be seated at 13.00 having been told three times we would have our table in two minutes! The place was very busy but obviously short-staffed. We saw several people leave without having been served because they were waiting too long. In the end we gave up and left. Will try another time and see if it's any better.

Avoid at all costs, there is a million places to have a nice pizza in aix so don’t feel obliged to eat at this place. Tourist trap, unorganised and for a new restaurant not clean at all. Mario should stick to pluming.

We went back twice for dinner in our 3 night stay. This little spot is off the beaten path and offers really warm service and delicious food! With a big menu to choose from and a little deli, the restaurant makes for a very good choice in Aix! In particular our pizza was really excellent and you can definitely taste the quality of the ingredients in the pastas and pizza. The restaurant takes pride in their food and what they offer. The only thing better than the food was the friendliness from all the family involved in this family-fun business - definitely a lot of heart goes into Little Italy.

As an American with Latino and Sicilian roots , I’m always on the lookout for real flavor and authenticity and Little Italy By Fratelli ISQUINTA completely blew me away. The food here is outstanding. You can taste the quality in every bite the ingredients are fresh, the spices are perfectly balanced, and every dish feels made with genuine love for Italian cooking.
The pizza crust was spot-on: light, crispy, and full of flavor, with toppings that tasted like they came straight from Italy. The sauces were rich and bold without being heavy, and everything had that perfect homemade touch.
On top of that, the staff was incredibly friendly and outgoing the kind of energy that makes you feel instantly welcome. You can tell they really care about their guests and take pride in what they do.
If you’re in Aix-en-Provence and want a taste of true Italian passion and warmth, Little Italy is an absolute must. I can’t wait to go back it honestly felt like a little piece of home. 🇮🇹❤️🍕

★★★★★ A Hidden Gem in Aix-en-Provence! 🍕
🇮🇹
If you’re craving authentic Italian pizza, this is the place to be. After traveling through Italy and enjoying some incredible pizzas there, I can honestly say this is the best pizza I’ve had outside of Italy.
The dough is exceptional—light, airy, and perfectly crisp, thanks to its long fermentation. Every ingredient tastes fresh and high quality, from the creamy burrata to the delicate Italian ham. Each bite is full of authentic flavor.
The service was warm and welcoming, and the atmosphere made the experience even better.
If you’re in Aix-en-Provence, don’t miss this place. Whether you love classic Italian pizza or want to try something special, you’ll leave impressed.
Highly recommended—I will definitely be back! 🇮🇹❤️🍕

I have been here two times with work and family and it has not disappointed! The place itself is slightly off the beaten track but still close enough to the town centre. It's not a huge place so if you want seating you'd better book or hope they have a table spare! I was lucky on both my visits that ad hoc seating was available.
This franchise seems to be family run and they are very passionate and attentive in what they do. The table service is excellent and they can make adjustments if you have any dietary requirements. Not to mention the chilli oil is actually spicy!
All the pizza's I've had here have been excellent and the people I've taken here haven't had complaints. They are quite sizeable so one is definitely enough for one person, although some may need to share! The timing is also incredible as it never felt like a wait for the pizzas and they always came out properly cooked! One minor criticism is perhaps given the amount of crust, some selections of dips would be good! But the dough on it's own with some oil is tasty so I am mostly ok with it not being available.
They also do takeaway so if you really struggle to get a table then definitely try to get a takeaway as the pizza will taste great whether served off a plate or eaten from a box!
If you haven't been and want your pizza fix then come here! You won't be dissappointed.

Brilliant little gem of a pizzeria in the heart of Aix. The pizzas are out of this world and very good value too! We will definitely go back when we return to Aix, which we hope will be soon! Book in advance because it is quite small and gets very busy, even on a Sunday night…

This was THE BEST PIZZA I have ever had. The burrata pizza was incredible. The Délices de Capoue was also amazing. Don’t think twice, just go. You will not regret it. The staff were incredibly kind and friendly. It is located near a beautiful alley of buildings. The one thing to note is you do have to get one pizza / person when you sit down. Honestly this worked out great because we got to try two amazing pizzas and it was so worth it. The tiramisu was a perfect dessert to complete the meal. We will definitely return! Thanks for a great meal!!

Nut allergy friendly; I was worried about the pesto sauce but I trusted the servers let the chef know, and they washed down the grill appropriately.
Time to food: 13 minutes
Arrived at around 9:20PM and was seated at the bar. I went totally with the chef's recommendation. I had a lovely Domaine Combier - Crozes-Hermitage Cuvée Laurent rouge 2024, the Piadina with coppa de parme, parmesan, and red peppers, and a biscoff tiramisu with an espresso to wash it down. Total was 17.5 euro.
Honestly, I wish I had found this spot earlier! I ate at several "nice" spots around town during the week. The Piadina here was leagues above the pizza at La Rotunde at half the price. Everyone was polite and friendly. They even do a student discount. It's an amazing quaint little spot.

The five stars must be made up. It’s not a very good place to eat!. Only ate here because we were hungry and it had excellent reviews. A bit of a scam. The few tables in the restaurant were taken so we were seated across the street in a large room that was very noisy and had no ambiance. We were given menus that showed only the piadina or pasta dishes for €8. Since we were hungry, we chose to try out this Italian street food. Ordered penne bolognese and a piadina. It arrived in about 3 minutes - fast but that tells you something. The vegetables in the piadina were still cold. My friend barely touched his bolognese and said it was tasteless. The waiter was very enthusiastic and offered us a dessert that he insisted is part of the meal. I hadn’t seen that in the menu but said ok. He brought me a special tiramisu in a cup and my friend a panna cotta in a cup. The dessert was not at all like tiramisu but it was very good. But when we went to pay, were given a much larger bill - charged 14 euros for the unpleasant food and dessert and water. When i pointed out that the food was €8 on the menu, the woman we had to pay (owner??) pointed to a sign outside the restaurant that says €14 for a dish, drink and dessert. That was definitely NOT on the menu. Such a scam!! It was definitely NOT worth €14. I can get better pizza for €4. AVOID AVOID AVOID.

American family on vacation and we wanted something that was unique but still very familiar on our third day in Aix. Found this place randomly and so glad we had dinner here. All had the piadia meals, which included the sandwich, a drink, and desert for $14 euro. The sandwich is like a grilled wrap- but imagine something super Italian and on steroids. Wraps are boring. This was NOT boring. Loved it. We took their recommendation and ordered one with smoked ham and grilled zucchini. Why is this so good? You can get it to go, dine in and it was also available on Uber eats for delivery. Already missing eating here.

Great fresh homemade pasta, affordable price, tasted like something you could actually get in Italy, and I went here with my Italian friends multiple times so, you can trust me on that !!!

We had a wonderful time here tonight. The two pizzas we ordered were both incredible. The service was friendly, welcoming, and very accommodating. We made a reservation at the last minute, but I’m so glad we did because it filled up quickly after we arrived right at 7pm. We’ll remember this place for a long time!

Pizza is really really good. Maybe one of the best that I have eaten. Mole Cola some italian origin style of Coca Cola was perfect. Much better than original Cola, and less sugar and less carbonated. Marius Pizza was my personal best. We have tried 4 different and all was good.

This is the best pizza I’ve had in a long time! I’m definitely coming back for the La Bonne Mère.

Randomly passing by to have to a quick bite to save time, and the Focaccia was so unexpectedly delicious and crispy, it was so good we went back to try the pizza and equally amazing. Quite a delightful discovery in town.

30 years ago I was buying my pizzas here and they didn’t change the recipe which is awesome because they have the best dough! For me the best dough is thin and crispy. If you like pan pizza just move forward.
They sell slices which is great so I can buy two :
Royale and 4 cheeses are my fav.
On top of that, even though you don’t have much of interaction with the guy you order from, he manages to be super kind and make this time a nice moment. Talking about the young guy with glasses, thanks a lot!

We've seen accidentally such a long line to wait to order while looking around places for lunch.
It was a nice experience to talk with other tourists from all over the world to wait their order.
I remember one European asked me how famous it is, even I was also totally a passer-by.
The staff was very kind to foreigners and speedy for the take-out.
Very delicious with cheap price.

It is a hole in the wall, with a wood fire oven and a talented pizzaiolo, delivering great quality pizza. It was made fresh, quick and was delicious. Unfortunately they only have a couple of seats to enjoy it there, but it is worth doing it. They have a good variety of flavors, and the traditional open pizza and a folded one to make it easier to taste it to go.

Two guys selling pizza from a window in an alley, oddly enough, this was my favorite food at Aix En Provence. Fresh seafood in the area but this pizza took the cake for me. Cheers!

We stopped by a couple days ago while spending the afternoon in Aix. It was about 1:30 and needed a bite to eat and saw this place down a side street. It’s a small shop right in the alley with about three tables to sit down. The pizza was quite good, we had the Quattro Fromage Carne and it was very tasty. The Margherita looked fantastic, I kind of regretted not getting that but maybe next time. The service was okay, a bit slow but no worries we were not in a rush. The pizza came out hot and was freshly made on the spot so that was appreciated. The pricing was pretty reasonable, the pizza was 15 Euros and we also shared a Coke. I would definitely come back and would recommend if you are looking for some pizza in Aix en Provence.

Wonderful experience from start to finish. You know it’s going to be good when it starts with petting a very friendly dog. Human service was excellent too :). Friendly, helpful, all that you could ask for. My wife and I shared a focaccia sandwich to start. Delicious. A whole sandwich on its own would have been enough for lunch. We shared a pizza (The Roman). It was superb. We sat and ate and drank in the most peaceful of settings. Even the pigeons splashing me from atop the fountain was fun. There’s lots of pizza in Aix and some others may be very good. Give them a try but do yourself a favor and don’t miss out on this gem.

Came here for the margarita pizza and it didn’t disappoint! Nice atmosphere with tables in the large “triangle” median. Server was really nice and she worked hard to ensure we were enjoying our evening. Gelato also great!
One tiny suggestion for the pizza crust would be less use of corn meal on the bottom. Otherwise perfection and much appreciated, thanks!

We had the most delicious pizza while sitting next to the fountain. It was a truly memorable lunch, but then we left my precious bag of watercolours and sketches behind on the table. We had left France by the time we realised and it was too late. Estel very kindly posted the bag to our home address and we can’t thank her enough for the care she gave us and rescued us. Not only are the pizzas amazing, but the staff are incredible as well.
Recommend!!! 😍😍😍😍

Beautiful location as well as the interior of the restaurant, the pizza master really knows his job, I'm impressed after trying one of the best pizzas of my life (pizza with truffles). The lady who served us presented the wines and food beautifully, which is exactly what I believe is required for a good waiter. Filip sends you warm greetings and recommendations to his guests and is confident that he will return to this restaurant one day ☺️

Great pizza, super nice staff, great central location next to a beautiful little fountain. Thanks for a great pizza !
Tips for Enjoying Pizza in Aix-en-Provence
To truly maximize your culinary experience in this vibrant city, it helps to understand the local dining culture and how to navigate it like a pro. Pizza in Aix is often treated as a leisurely social event rather than a quick meal, so adjusting your expectations regarding timing and service will greatly enhance your evening. Here are some essential tips to ensure you get the best slice possible during your visit.
1. Book ahead for dinner service.
Aix-en-Provence is a bustling city, and the best tables—especially those on outdoor terraces—fill up fast. Most top-tier pizzerias take reservations, and if you are dining between 7:30 PM and 9:30 PM, walking in without one often means a long wait or disappointment.
2. Understand the service hours.
Unlike in larger capitals, many quality restaurants in Aix close their kitchens between lunch and dinner. Don’t expect to find a great wood-fired pizza at 4:00 PM. Plan your meal around the standard French times: roughly 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM for lunch, and 7:00 PM onwards for dinner.
3. Look for the wood-fired oven.
The hallmark of a superior pizza in this region is the "four à bois" (wood-fired oven). The intense, dry heat creates a char and texture that electric ovens simply cannot replicate. If you can see the oven from the dining room or smell the wood smoke, you are likely in the right place.
4. Embrace the local aperitif culture.
Before your pizza arrives, do as the Aixois do and enjoy an aperitif. A glass of cold, dry Rosé de Provence or a local Pastis pairs beautifully with the anticipation of a meal. It primes the palate for the rich, savory flavors of the pizza and is an integral part of the dining ritual.
5. Don’t skip the spicy oil.
Most authentic Italian pizzerias in Aix will offer "huile piquante" (spicy olive oil) on the table. A drizzle of this over a Margherita or a Diavola can elevate the flavors significantly. It is a staple condiment that locals use liberally, and it complements the sweet tomato sauce perfectly.
The beauty of the pizza scene in Aix-en-Provence is that it reflects the city itself: sophisticated yet unpretentious, traditional yet open to innovation. Whether you are sitting on a cobblestone square listening to a street musician or tucked into a modern bistro, the experience is about more than just the food. It is about the warmth of the service, the quality of the local wine, and the joy of slowing down.
As you explore the streets and follow the scent of baking dough, you will quickly realize why this city has become a quiet powerhouse for Italian cuisine in the South of France. Buon appetito, or as they say here, bon appétit.
