Finding a reliable pharmacy is essential whether you live in Santa Cruz de Tenerife or are visiting the island. Access to professional healthcare advice, prescription medications, and everyday wellness products should be convenient and stress-free. The city offers a robust network of farmacias equipped to handle both routine needs and urgent requirements.

Navigating the local healthcare system can feel different if you are coming from abroad. Understanding how these establishments operate will help you get the care you need quickly and efficiently.

Santa Cruz de Tenerife is the bustling capital of the island, stretching from the harbor to the surrounding hills. Because of this varied geography, the city is served by pharmacies in the commercial center, residential neighborhoods, and near major medical facilities. Knowing where to find a trusted professional can save you valuable time.

Many visitors to Tenerife are surprised by the level of expertise available at local counters. Pharmacists here are highly trained and can often diagnose minor ailments, recommend over-the-counter treatments, and advise on the correct use of prescriptions. They act as the first line of defense for non-emergency medical issues.

For tourists, dealing with sunburn, insect bites, or stomach upsets is common. A local pharmacy can provide immediate relief without the need for a lengthy visit to a clinic. They can also help you source equivalents for medications you may have forgotten to pack.

This guide highlights a selection of well-regarded pharmacies across the city. The list includes locations that are known for their customer service, professional staff, and convenient opening hours. Whether you need a late-night refill or a specific dermatological product, you have options.

A beautiful location, but a mixed experience The pharmacy is modern, spacious, and located in a lovely green area — which already makes it appealing. It’s clean, bright, and well-organized inside. But my overall experience was mixed. To be honest, it feels more like a beauty store than a pharmacy. Shelves filled with cosmetics and skincare make it look more commercial than health-focused — and that’s a bit confusing when you come in looking for medical advice or treatment. One time, I was helped by a very kind and attentive pharmacist. But on another visit — a completely different story. I was given a medication that looked different: new packaging, different brand. And instead of explaining that it’s actually the same product, just in a different form (which the pharmacist surely knows and could easily clarify to reassure me), she chose silence. No explanation, no effort to make me feel confident about the purchase. It felt like: “Don’t want it? Fine.”

One of the few pharmacies on the island that always has the prescriptions I need in stock right away, and has a huge selection of vitamins, skincare, haircare, and supplement options.

This pharmacy is huge and reminds me of Boots drugstores in the UK. It offers easy access for people with limited mobility. You can find, besides the medicine, medical devices and hygiene products. The staff is helpful and friendly. If you happen to shop by car, finding parking may be challenging.

Was not in fact open 24/7. Very irresponsible to waste people's time like this on medical matters.

A more American approach to drug stores. Its a bit too clinical and cold. Its 24 hours so thats a plus.

Always very helpful staff! Very clean, wellstocked, and neat little pharmacy, with opening hours 7 days a week. I prefer this pharmacy because they do speak a bit of English, due to my Spanish is still very bad and limited.
José Jesús Bonilla Díaz★☆☆☆☆
It used to be a great pharmacy, very friendly and always trying to help. Lately, that's not the case anymore. I asked for their email address so the vet could send them a prescription, and they told me, as I understand, that they weren't going to print one for me. The other thing happened about a month ago. I went in with a prescription for gabapentin, and they told me it had been withdrawn from the market and that I'd have a hard time getting it, which fortunately was resolved at the next pharmacy. Anyway, they've lost a customer of many, many years. Obviously, they don't care since they have plenty of customers, but there's my experience with Farmacia Ofra.

I am very satisfied with the service I received at Ofra Pharmacy. The entire team stands out for their professionalism, friendliness, and personal touch. They always provide clear and dedicated advice, answering any questions with great knowledge and patience. It's clear they care about their customers' well-being and offer a high-quality service. Furthermore, they usually have everything I need, and if something isn't available, they get it quickly. Without a doubt, a trustworthy pharmacy that I highly recommend.
Anna★★★★☆
Good pharmacy with friendly and professional service. The staff is usually helpful and answers questions clearly. They have a good variety of products and, in general, the service is quick. One area for improvement is that during peak times the wait can be a bit long. Overall, a recommendable pharmacy.

I've been buying my mother's medication there for years, but I won't be going back. What a shame! The service had always been good until today. I was served by a very young, blonde girl in a blue uniform (which makes her think she doesn't have to listen or be polite, let alone friendly). She was rude! Arrogant! I've been a pharmacist for 25 years and I know how to treat patients. Many years, courses, and customer service training. This young woman has nothing! No training, no manners. It's such a shame to have people like that ruining such a good place as that pharmacy used to be.

I went to buy three sachets of antibiotics because the prescription says so, but they only gave me one. I insisted, and they said it was one. I went home, checked, and there were three. How am I supposed to go back home sick??? IT WAS THREE, AND I TOLD THEM SO!

Friendly and open for very long hours. We went there for emergency care and got everything we needed. Easy to reach, right next to the "Puente Zurita" tram station.

Even though I visited the pharmacy frequently because it was close to my house, I won't be going back. The thing is, my prescription was for compression stockings for varicose veins. They put them in a bag with some other medications, I paid, and left. Once home, I noticed the stockings had lace trim. Naturally, the box had a woman's silhouette on it. When I went back to the pharmacy to exchange them, a different employee (not the one who had helped me initially) told me I couldn't exchange them because they had already been removed from the prescription and that, besides, those stockings weren't for men or women, and that I had been prescribed those specific stockings (all this in a rude and argumentative manner) and that it didn't matter what they looked like. Of course, I told her that I had been prescribed compression stockings, not compression stockings with lace. In the end, I told her not to worry, that I wouldn't be coming back. I'll figure out what to do with the stockings later.

I'm giving it one star because I can't give less. A blonde girl with a ponytail and glasses, I'd been shopping for a few minutes when I arrived and she just said "this way" without any further explanation. I came to my station and said "HELLO," but she remained completely silent. I showed her a picture of the product I needed, paid for it, and didn't even say goodbye. I was very disappointed because I've been there before and I've never been treated like that. I understand you might be having a bad day, like we all do, but not even a "HELLO"? I'm not asking you to throw me a party; I also work in customer service and I know it's complicated, but it's not my fault you had a bad day...
Jacqueline González del Pino★☆☆☆☆
Terrible service and organization. I've never had so many problems at a pharmacy. I feel there's no willingness to advise or assist customers; they don't offer the different product or medication options they have, and there's no apparent coordination between the staff on different shifts. Even though it's the closest pharmacy to me, it won't be my first choice.
Carolina O ́Neill★★★★★
Excellent pharmacy! They answer all my questions, always dedicating the time I need, whether it's about medication, diet, or beauty. Their recommendations are always spot on. Excellent service. Highly recommended. Thank you!
Alicia De Pablos★★★★★
They always have medications in stock, and you don't have to wait to be asked. Changing the parking space to the nearest corner was a great idea, but the problem is that some inconsiderate people park there to run errands in the area, leaving someone inside to cover their tracks. Today I had to drive around the block several times, which is a real hassle for the area, and the same car was still parked in the space. Later, I checked with the pharmacy and found out they weren't buying anything, just running errands. What nerve! The pharmacy was already calling the police.
Cricker★☆☆☆☆
I went to purchase medication (January 9, 2024). They told me it was out of stock but that they had a more concentrated alternative. They indicated the dosage, but after consulting with a doctor and reading the package insert, I discovered the dosage they gave me was incorrect (it was far too low). I filed a complaint, and in their response (received today, January 23, 2024), it mysteriously turns out that the information they initially provided was correct. It's impossible to file another complaint since I only have my word against theirs. I simply hope they learn from this and don't provide incorrect information in the future, as this time I only lost 4-5 euros, but next time I could lose much more. I'm leaving this review here to see if they "understand the patient's complaint" and acknowledge the error, which we can all make, but which they have never admitted. Best regards.

Walking into this pharmacy instantly makes you start healing faster. Unbeatable feeling. The warm welcome, the eagerness of the providers and the positive vibes and energy of real Healthcare Providers, it is palpable. They're the medical team who works at the very place where the most important part of the well-being process takes place. When you finally acquire those medicines that might have taken you pain, time and frustration to have them adequately prescribed. Here, the patient is the most inportant person and as such, he/she is also part of the healiing team. The service provider's team in this pharmacy not only dispensers what the doctor ordered, but they do so in the most caring, loving and empathic way. They deliver both, the goodies and the sincere and genuine feeling that can only arise when you really are the focus of their mission. Effortlessly, displaying their disposition to assist you, using real attentive listening skills, ready to answer any questions; graciously, delivering to you not only what you need, but also a comforting feeling that you also take home with you. The work pace in this establishment is agile and precise. No stress. Just people doing what they love doing. The atmosphere is amicable and allows for any kind of spontaneous chatting that can easily bursts rays of joy in all directions and is appreciated it by all who are present. And the pharmacists do it all with a smile and an honest appreciation for your business. They thank you for allowing them to assist you with your needs. It's like an oasis for the persons suffering an illness that goes beyond physical pain. You will be treated exactly how you deserve when you are in the house of Maria Nieves:) Thank you all for the service, the personal attention and the smiles I received during my last visit. It was a treat visiting you 🙂 😀 Keep it up 👏 Cheers! Javier S.

A large modern pharmacy with helpful and professional staff. Lots of space, and a wide range of para-pharmaceuticals are on display. It's well staffed and fulfilment of prescriptions is rapid. Advice regarding appropriate non-prescription items for minor ailments, is available. As is advice regarding the suitability and usage of beauty and cosmetic products.
Javier Díez★☆☆☆☆
My experience was terrible. I went to buy a product, and the person helping me told me to go to the back register, where there was no one, implying she was taking it there to ring me up. After a while, she told me they didn't have it, without giving me any options, like, "We ordered it for you..." For example. I bit my tongue and didn't say anything because I thought it was awful to send me to a register at the back of the pharmacy for nothing. She could have saved me the trouble by saying she'd check if they had it. Also, as I was leaving, the woman who had helped me sarcastically said how nice I was... anyway. I don't think the treatment I received was appropriate for a customer service department. To my surprise, I see I'm not the only one who's had bad experiences. They really need to look into this...
lihua guo★☆☆☆☆
Beware of the new girl, Pilar, the blonde with curly hair and glasses. If you arrive 10-15 minutes before closing time, she'll scold you for being late and make faces at you. If she doesn't want to work with the public, she'd be better off in the stockroom making faces.
X G★☆☆☆☆
The blonde pharmacist, Pilar, with curly hair, around 60 years old. What a rude woman... I went to ask her for some medication with my social security card. And she tells me I can't pick it up until a certain day. I tell her to order it for me and that I'll have it by the time I come to pick it up because I have to take it before some tests. To which she replies in a super rude and condescending tone, "You should have gone to the doctor first..." Excuse me? Who does she think she is? I've been shopping here my whole life. Next time I'm refusing to be served by this woman. What arrogance! Who does she think she is to talk to me like that? If you go to this pharmacy, pray you don't get Pilar because you'll leave there feeling awful because of her arrogance!

We found this pharmacy working on Saturday evening as we needed essentials and medications for some injuries. The staff was very attentive and listened to what we wanted. The lady who spoke English at our request was running around the store to pick the stuff we asked for as we had a lot of requirements. The assistants were wonderful, but the owner's management was deplorable. To save money, she doesn't cover staff absences and there are no pharmacists. An inspection should be carried out to assess the working conditions.

I was there yesterday afternoon and Fermín, a very nice guy, helped me. He recommended some products for a cold that just wouldn't go away, and I've already felt much better in just one day. I like pharmacies like this where they take the time to ask about your symptoms, going beyond simply trying to sell you the usual remedies, to offer the best advice. I hope they always maintain that approach and that the staff is like that, because it makes you want to come back.
Juan carlos Santana★★★★★
Excellent service, super friendly staff from the moment you arrive until you're served, good parking outside—these are the kinds of pharmacies you'll love coming back to.
Light Shine★☆☆☆☆
I parked in the pharmacy's parking lot and went upstairs to get a prescription from the doctor's office. I was going to use it at his pharmacy. It took me 10 minutes to come back down because I had to wait for the doctor to finish. When I got back down, my car almost got towed and I almost got a ticket. If I'd been there for half an hour, I would have kept quiet, but for 10 minutes, especially since I was going to his pharmacy to buy something, that seems like a terrible thing to do. That's why the world is the way it is. I understand that some people take advantage, but I wasn't gone for more than 10 minutes. Besides, it was expensive. I won't be shopping there again.
Joaquín Leyton Toro★★★★☆
A well-known pharmacy next to García Sanabria Park and 10 meters from Plaza de los Patos; very professional.
Canderina Gonzalez★☆☆☆☆
Every time I've been there they've been very friendly, except today. The blonde girl who served me—there was another one, hence the clarification—had a haughty and unfriendly attitude, making faces because I had to go back in several times to get my medication. I was a customer until today. It's a real shame about that attitude and that kind of attitude.

It's a good pharmacy, very large, and has almost everything. The place is really clean and well-organized, and the staff are helpful, although it would be better if they had a smile on their faces. Thank you so much for your dedication and customer service. You have the best team. And observing our seniors, the time you dedicate to them is invaluable; they feel cared for. I've never written a review of the hundreds I have on Maps, but I wanted to do it this time. Something's wrong with the customers queuing up on the street, and there are only two customers inside to serve them. The pharmacy is average-sized, but people don't go inside to wait their turn; they line up at the door, and everyone else waits outside. I think they should put up a sign where you can wait or take a number or something. Here's my suggestion: don't queue outside next time. ☺️😊🙃 This has never happened to me before. The pharmacist was very attentive and took her time to advise me.

My experience at this pharmacy was very unpleasant. An older employee with long white hair made completely erroneous and inappropriate comments and diagnoses about a young child, without having the information or expertise to do so. Her behavior was unsympathetic, inappropriate, and offensive. In a healthcare setting, professionalism, discretion, and above all, respect are expected, especially when dealing with minors.

Tips for Using Pharmacies in Santa Cruz de Tenerife

Understanding the local pharmacy culture in Spain will make your experience much smoother. Whether you are a resident managing a chronic condition or a traveler needing a quick remedy, there are specific protocols and services you should know about. The following tips will help you navigate the system with confidence and ease.

Look for the Green Cross
In Spain, pharmacies are marked by a prominent green cross, often illuminated. If the cross is lit, the pharmacy is currently open. This is the universal symbol you should look for when walking through the streets of Santa Cruz.

Know the "Farmacia de Guardia" System
Pharmacies rotate night and weekend duties. When a pharmacy is closed, it will post a sign on the door listing the nearest "farmacia de guardia" (on-duty pharmacy). Local newspapers and Google Maps also list the current duty pharmacy for late-night emergencies.

Don’t Expect Over-the-Counter Painkillers on Shelves
Unlike in some countries, medications like ibuprofen or paracetamol are kept behind the counter. You must ask the pharmacist for them. This allows the professional to ensure the medication is safe for you and provide correct dosing instructions.

Bring Your EHIC or Insurance Details
If you are a European traveler, bring your European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) to access state healthcare and prescriptions at reduced rates. For non-EU visitors, travel insurance details are often required for reimbursements on prescribed medications.

Pharmacists Can Help with Minor Injuries
If you have a small cut, a rash, or an allergic reaction, you can often skip the doctor. Spanish pharmacists are qualified to assess minor conditions and provide appropriate treatment. This saves you time and reduces the burden on local clinics.

Check for the "Botiquín" Sign
Some smaller shops and rural areas have a "botiquín" (first-aid kit) rather than a full pharmacy. However, in a major city like Santa Cruz, you will always have access to a full-service pharmacy. If you are traveling to remote parts of the island, stock up in the capital first.

Finding the right pharmacy in Santa Cruz de Tenerife is usually a straightforward process thanks to the high density of qualified professionals in the city. Whether you need a specific prescription filled or simply advice on managing a travel-related illness, the local staff are equipped to help you in multiple languages, including English and German in many central locations.

Remember that pharmacists are your partners in health. By understanding the local system, respecting the consultation process, and knowing where to go after hours, you ensure that your time in Tenerife remains healthy and enjoyable. Always keep the address of a central pharmacy handy, especially if you are staying in a holiday rental or exploring the island extensively.
