Finding a reliable pharmacy in an unfamiliar city or after regular business hours can be stressful. Whether you are a resident running out of essential medication or a traveler dealing with a sudden headache, knowing where to go saves valuable time. In Murcia, the city centre is well-equipped with numerous farmacias that offer professional advice, over-the-counter remedies, and prescription services.
The Spanish pharmacy system is highly regulated, ensuring that you receive safe and qualified care wherever you go. Most pharmacists in Murcia speak at least some English, especially in the central tourist areas, making communication easier for international visitors. They are trained to assess symptoms and recommend appropriate treatments without requiring a doctor’s visit for minor ailments.
Location is often the most critical factor when you are feeling unwell or are pressed for time. The city centre of Murcia is walkable, but navigating the winding streets while searching for a green cross can be frustrating. This guide consolidates the most central options so you can head directly to the nearest open door.
Beyond simply dispensing medication, these establishments often provide services like blood pressure monitoring and nutritional advice. They are pillars of the local community, offering a level of personalized care that you rarely find in larger retail environments. Understanding their role helps you utilize their services more effectively.
Many visitors are unaware of the "guardia" system, which ensures that a pharmacy is always open 24 hours a day, even on Sundays and holidays. If you need urgent medication late at night, you must locate the "Farmacia de Guardia" designated for that specific shift. The list below includes central locations that can usually direct you to the nearest on-duty store if they are closed.
Whether you need sunscreen, baby formula, or a specific prescription refill, the following locations offer convenient solutions. We have focused on establishments within walking distance of the Cathedral and the main shopping districts. This ensures you are never too far from professional help while exploring the heart of Murcia.
Below is a curated list of the most accessible and reputable pharmacies in the heart of Murcia, ensuring you can find professional healthcare support right when you need it.

An excellent pharmacy, highly recommended. From the moment you walk in, you notice the professionalism, the friendly approach, and the genuine interest in helping every person who walks through the door.
I want to give special mention to the pharmacist, Ana Belén, whose service has always been impeccable. She stands out for her friendliness, her approachability, her professionalism, and the clear and kind way in which she explains things. It's clear she loves her job and strives to offer the best possible service to everyone.
Every time I've visited, I've been treated with kindness, patience, and a great willingness to answer questions, explain treatments, and recommend the most suitable products for each situation. Something I particularly appreciate is the very personal touch. You don't feel like just another customer, but like someone they genuinely want to help.
The facilities are very well-maintained, the service is fast, and the team inspires confidence and expertise. It's reassuring to know you can count on professionals who take the time to give you the best possible service.
In short, a leading pharmacy known for its human and professional qualities. I will definitely continue to trust them and would recommend them to anyone looking for excellent pharmaceutical care.

Edited* Written in 2024. A month ago, a guy in glasses helped me a lot. He explained the medication to me and was very nice.
However, during my last visit, I was attended by another staff member who was rude and impatient. She probably misread the number of days on the prescription. She may have read it right, but for whatever reason she only gave me half the amount of the prescribed medication. And I inquired, and she replied with an attitude, as if she was doing me a favor by presenting me the right amount of medications (instead of just half), that she had to make an extra trip to the back to carry the medication one more time. I cannot recommend this pharmacy anymore, the only good thing is that it is 24 hours, but there are some other 24/7 pharmacies in Murcia.

I do not recommend this pharmacy. I bought a box of enoxaparin for €108.18. They told me that to get a refund I would need to bring the prescription and the receipt, but no one mentioned that I needed to bring the box. Now they won't refund me because I don't have the box. I'm writing this here so they can't scam anyone else; it's information they should communicate to their customers.

I do not recommend this pharmacy, and let me tell you about my experience. After twenty-five years of being a loyal customer, I received simply shameful treatment.
A few days ago, I bought some eye drops, and they sold them to me in poor condition. I didn't think much of it, but the box was crushed on one side, and the flap was slightly open.
At first, I didn't think much of it, but imagine my surprise when I realized the eye drops weren't working at all. Luckily, I still had the previous bottle, and thanks to that, I was able to manage.
They've been stringing me along for three days on the phone, conducting surveys about how I use the eye drops. I received nine phone calls in three days.
Finally, the owner assured me he would replace the product with a new one. He even scheduled an appointment for me at a specific time, but at the last minute, he changed his mind, called me, and told me he wasn't going to give me a refund. He brazenly suggests he's not even sure it's a doctor-prescribed treatment. I told him it's a chronic treatment, prescribed by my ophthalmologist at Reina Sofía Hospital. But unfortunately, insurance doesn't cover this type of eye drop, so I never carry a prescription. He's displaying a terrible double standard, since he hasn't cared that I didn't have a prescription when selling it to me all these years.
Distrust towards a customer of over twenty-five years. I feel deeply cheated. The worst part is the stark contrast between the innocence of his staff and the owner's malice, as the woman I spoke to let slip that they've processed refunds for other customers without any issues.
Lack of professionalism and empathy. Disgraceful treatment of such a long-time and loyal customer. There are much better pharmacies in the area with better, more courteous, and empathetic staff. 👎👎👎
Raquel Boluda noguera★★★★★
I'm very happy with the service from the whole team. They're always there to answer any questions, they give you plenty of time, and they explain everything clearly. You can tell when people are committed to ongoing professional development and enjoy their work. Congratulations, because I'll definitely be a regular customer. It's so nice to have a pharmacy you can trust where they make you feel right at home.

After many years as a customer, I won't be returning. I went to buy medication with a prescription from the hospital. A short girl with straight, dark hair served me and gave me the wrong medication twice.
The second time I tried to point it out, she told me the medication I wanted didn't exist (liquid ibuprofen in sachets = Ibudol, it couldn't be simpler). I bought it at another pharmacy and showed her again that it did exist, asking to speak to her manager or for a complaint form. Her response was to check how much I had paid for the wrong medication. She took it out of the till (even though I had paid by card, which I told her) and threw the coins at me to make me leave quickly.
Of course, I left the incorrect medication on the counter since she had thrown the money in my face and it was hers. They shouldn't hire people like that; it does a disservice to their professionalism.

Excellent service. The staff is incredibly helpful. They always have the medication I need, because most pharmacies have to order it, which means I have to come back. They have a monthly SMS notification service that alerts you when your medication is available. They also have their own parking lot and lockers for dropping off Inpost and Amazon orders.

The service at this pharmacy is disappointing. The staff demonstrates a lack of experience and, on several occasions, seem more focused on chatting amongst themselves than on properly serving customers. Furthermore, there is a constant staff turnover, which suggests a lack of stability and organization. I believe the manager should better supervise the service and prioritize training and retention for the team to provide more professional service, consistent with what is expected of a pharmacy.

Terrible customer service. Went into buy something and the pharmacist decided I was a thief. Demanded to look in my bag of shopping. I think he does not want customers. Went elsewhere and treated with kindness. A pharmacy to avoid
Patry Mismamente★☆☆☆☆
I went to this 24-hour pharmacy because I needed medication and brought my dog, a Border Collie, who was leashed, well-behaved, and perfectly clean. I was told I couldn't bring him inside and had to leave him tied up at the door, with no further explanation other than it was the manager's decision.
Since it's an on-call pharmacy, where people go out of necessity, I find this policy unreasonable, especially when there was no one else in the store and the service would have only taken about two minutes.
I ended up having to go to another 24-hour pharmacy where there was no problem bringing my dog in. He went inside and sat down for the two minutes I was served... I think they should clearly state this policy to avoid these kinds of situations.
Ana Mondéjar★☆☆☆☆
I went to pick up a veterinary medication and they wouldn't sell it to me. I understand that the prescription was incomplete (although other pharmacies have always dispensed it to me that way). Even so, the service was appalling; there are many ways to say things. Politeness and good customer service should never be optional. I don't recommend going there.
Inma pérez★☆☆☆☆
My boyfriend went to buy Cysticlean tablets. They charged him an exorbitant €60 when I've bought them for less at other pharmacies. To make matters worse, five minutes after buying them, he tried to exchange them for a different type (tablets instead of sachets), but they wouldn't let him because they don't accept exchanges or returns. Ridiculous and shameful; it's better to spend the money at a more honest pharmacy.
Carmen Jiménez★★★☆☆
A few nights ago, I went to the pharmacy because I needed a generic medication, but they wouldn't sell it to me because they said it required a prescription. But they did sell me the brand-name, more expensive one.
Today, I asked for it again at a different pharmacy, and they gave it to me without any problem. And honestly, I don't understand it because it's true that I got it at a pharmacy in another town before, but seeing this today, I'm confused. Well, it's still a business, after all.

You ask them for something and they always have something else "the same or better," but above all, more expensive.
It's happened to me with shampoos, sunscreen... and well, in the end you trust the person who serves you. (Then you buy it and there's always a considerable price difference.) But today I said NO. I'm not going there. I went to get oral rehydration solution and they brought me two. One for €3.20, the other for €13, and it turns out the €3.20 one REQUIRES A PRESCRIPTION. I refused to buy it. I went to another pharmacy and bought it without any problem. For €3.20, and I'm sending a photo so you can see that it DOESN'T REQUIRE A PRESCRIPTION.

I understand that we sick people can be a real nuisance.
Today, February 14, 2026, I was in line. There were three employees: two women and a man. When it was my turn, I went to the register that had become free, and as I approached to order, the man turned around, walked away, and left me standing there talking to myself. He didn't even bother to say hello, nothing, as if there was no one behind the counter. He could have at least told me to move to another register because he was busy.
(I don't know, maybe he was having a bad day). Nothing at all.
At 67 years old, I've had all sorts of experiences, especially having worked in customer service for 43 years of my life.
But to be ignored like this man was a rude and unpleasant gesture.
I'm giving it fewer stars because I can't. Of course, anyone who wants to can go and shop there.
By the way, I'm not giving the gentleman's details, because there's only one gentleman, and he's upstairs.
On another note, I bought a pack of 20 regular Couldina tablets, the usual kind in the white and blue packaging, and they charged me €14.74. I think that's outrageous. I'm correcting the stated price of €14.74; the price I paid was €14.94.

The attention and kindness of the pharmacy technician Consuelo is truly remarkable. Not all pharmacies strive for diligence and kindness, and Consuelo managed to resolve a significant problem I had with my medication, all while emphasizing that it was simply her job and not making a big deal of it.
Thank you so much, Consuelo.

I'm six months pregnant and went to get medication for heartburn. According to the "pharmacist or technician," there was nothing available without a prescription that was suitable for pregnant women. I told her about a medication my doctor had prescribed and asked if she could check if it was safe during pregnancy. She replied that if the doctor had told me to, who was I to doubt him? And as if I didn't trust someone with a degree! I think it's great that you don't feel like working, but it's not the customers' fault. It doesn't cost anything to check on the computer whether a medication is safe or not, since my doctor has prescribed other medications that turned out to be unsafe, and that's why they always recommend consulting the pharmacist as well. If you go to Gran Vía, there's another pharmacy where the staff were very kind and gave me excellent advice. If you're looking for information about a medication, you're better off not looking there. There are plenty of other pharmacies in the area; you can treat your customers like that.

Located on the corner of Plaza de las Flores and Plaza de Santa Catalina, this pharmacy is perfect for any need you may have. Whether you need medication or any other pharmaceutical product and you're in the city center, in this traditional tapas district of Murcia, this pharmacy is the place to go.
Recently renovated and modernized, they've recently added an awning at the entrance, which is very practical given the amount of sun the premises receive due to its orientation.
Essential Tips for Using Pharmacies in Murcia
Navigating the healthcare system in a new country can be daunting, but a little preparation goes a long way. Whether you are a local or a tourist, understanding how Spanish pharmacies operate will save you time and ensure you get the correct treatment. Here are some practical tips to enhance your experience and ensure you receive the best possible care.
Look for the Green Cross
Unlike in some countries where drugstores are combined with general retail, Spanish pharmacies are distinct. They are identified by a bright green cross, often animated or illuminated. If you are looking for basic toiletries or cosmetics, you might find them here, but they are primarily medical facilities. Do not expect to find groceries or hardware; focus on health-related products.
Know Your Brand Names
Medication names can vary significantly between countries. A drug you know by one name in the UK or US may be sold under a completely different brand in Spain. If you rely on a specific medication, write down the active ingredient rather than the trade name. Pharmacists in Murcia are excellent at matching the generic compound to the appropriate local brand.
Understand the Siesta Hours
While the city centre is busy, many smaller businesses still observe a midday break. However, due to the essential nature of their service, most central pharmacies in Murcia remain open continuously from morning until late evening. It is still wise to check the specific hours of the location you plan to visit, as smaller neighborhood shops may close briefly for lunch.
Ask for the "Farmacia de Guardia"
If you need medicine in the middle of the night or on a public holiday, regular shops will be closed. Every pharmacy in Spain is required to post a sign on their door listing the nearest "Farmacia de Guardia" (on-duty pharmacy) for that day. You can also check local newspapers or the official College of Pharmacists website for the nightly schedule.
Don’t Hesitate to Ask for Advice
Spanish pharmacists are highly trained healthcare professionals who can diagnose minor conditions. If you have a cold, a minor skin rash, or a mild allergic reaction, you can save time and money by consulting the pharmacist before going to a hospital. They will tell you if your condition is manageable over-the-counter or if you need to see a doctor.
Keep Your Prescription Handy
If you are traveling from another EU country, your home prescription is generally valid in Spain, provided it has been issued by a qualified professional. For non-EU visitors, it is best to carry a copy of your prescription and a letter from your doctor. This helps the pharmacist verify the medication and ensures there are no legal issues with dispensing controlled substances.
Use Digital Payment Methods
While cash is accepted everywhere, contactless payments and credit cards are widely used in Murcia. Most pharmacies in the city centre have modern point-of-sale systems. However, if you are purchasing a very low-cost item, having a few coins can speed up the transaction significantly.
Murcia’s city centre is compact and pedestrian-friendly, making it easy to access professional healthcare quickly. The pharmacists here are accustomed to serving a diverse population, from university students to international tourists, and they are generally very patient and helpful. Do not let a minor health issue ruin your trip or your day.
By knowing where to go and how the system works, you can resolve medical concerns efficiently. Keep this guide handy as you explore the beautiful streets of Murcia, and rest assured that expert advice is never more than a few steps away.
