12 Budget-Friendly Hotels near Sainte-Chapelle

Finding a comfortable place to stay in Paris that does not drain your travel budget can feel like a challenge, especially when you want to be in the heart of the city’s history. The area surrounding Sainte-Chapelle, nestled within the vibrant Île de la Cité and the neighboring Latin Quarter, is one of the most enchanting districts in the capital. While this locale is famous for luxury landmarks, it is also surprisingly accessible for budget-conscious travelers who know where to look.

Staying near this 13th-century Gothic masterpiece places you within walking distance of Notre-Dame, the Conciergerie, and the charming bookstalls along the Seine. You do not need a five-star address to enjoy the magic of the neighborhood; you simply need a strategic base. The area is well-connected by the Cité, Saint-Michel, and Cluny-La Sorbonne metro stations, making it easy to explore further afield while sleeping close to the medieval heart of Paris.

The key to finding affordable accommodation here is understanding the layout of the local streets. While the island itself hosts a few high-end properties, the narrow lanes of the 5th arrondissement—just across the bridge—offer a dense concentration of budget-friendly independent hotels. These establishments often trade sprawling lobbies and elevators for character, exposed beams, and unbeatable locations.

When traveling on a budget, prioritizing location over square footage can dramatically enhance your trip. By saving money on accommodation, you free up your wallet for the experiences that matter most, such as skipping the line at Sainte-Chapelle to see its stunning stained glass or enjoying a long dinner at a traditional bistro on Rue Saint-André des Arts. A simple room is all you need when the city itself serves as your living room.

This guide focuses on practical, wallet-friendly hotels that offer cleanliness, safety, and a prime location without the premium price tag. We have looked beyond the major chain hotels to find family-run properties and hidden gems that offer genuine Parisian character. Whether you are a solo traveler, a couple on a romantic getaway, or a student of history, these options prove you do not need to compromise on atmosphere to save money.

Below is a curated selection of accommodations that balance cost and comfort, all situated within a short stroll of the Sainte-Chapelle. These hotels have been chosen for their consistent value, positive guest feedback regarding cleanliness, and their proximity to the River Seine and the island’s historic core.

If you are from the US and know the travelodge or motel6 brand, this hotel is similar. The rooms are not sanitary. We got two rooms, one on Floor 6 and one on Floor7. There were ants in the room on Floor7. We told the front desk about it and they said they would clean it up and there were ants still everyday. So we couldn’t bring any food or drinks up to our room in case we’d get infested. On Floor6, the carpet hadn’t been vacuumed since the last person as there were toe nail clippings all over the carpet. There were mold issues in the rooms. My husband got hives from sleeping on the bed, unsure if that’s from bed bugs but possibly. Why stay here? If you are on a budget, need to get multiple rooms (we had 3) and staying for many days, then this makes sense. There was no hot water for showers the entire time. So hopefully you go in a heatwave. Some decent things- it’s safe, friendly staff, nice to get the breakfast included, close to many restaurants and sites, air conditioning was great, view of Eiffel Tower from the room. I recommend getting the deluxe suite, it was a decent size.

Don't let the 2 stars freighten you. This hotel is soo good. After a very inconvenient experience at the Ibis budget hotel, me and my friend had to find an immediate solution and book a new hotel. The only one within our price range and good accessibility was this one and let me tell you, we should have booked it first. We had to book it the same day of arrival so you can guess how stressful it all was, but as soon as we arrived in this hotel we were greeted by the amazing and nice guy at the reception. We loved every single detail especially since it brought us back in time with the beautiful elevator. The room(bathroom as well) and halls are small, but it's Paris so it's part of the experience. Everything was clean and new, the view was amazing, there was hot water, good Wi-Fi and the best part was the amazing location. Notre Dame is 10 minutes away on foot, there are many local restaurants and cafés nearby, markets open late in the night and many cute bookstores. If you want the best stay in Paris, then this is for you. When I come back in Paris again, this will be my choice 100%.😊

Affordable hotel in a fantastic location with everything you might need within walking distance on a safe and quiet street. The breakfast was surprisingly good with plenty of options and all the staff we encountered were very friendly and could communicate in English. Clean room, hot water and working AC. The room even had a French balcony with views of the Eiffel Tower in the distance which was a very nice surprise. Only complaint is that the room was very small, especially the bed which barely fit two people. Would definitely recommend this hotel if you’re looking for an affordable option in the 6th!

I recently stayed at this hotel for 4 nights, I loved the vintage vibe and what is great about it, is the location, you have everything near, and if not, you’re very close to the metro lines that take you directly to the wished places. Although it was a nice stay, in the last day I noticed a good amount of ants on the floor (mind you the floor is fully covered with a carpet), and that was not very nice, thankfully I didn’t notice on the first day otherwise I would go insane. Other then that everything else was nice, just inspect your room right from the start. The staff would clean the room everyday - not sure if they thoroughly cleaned it but we would always find everything nicely folded.
Nextbiteoflife Expats In Spain★★★☆☆
It's exactly what it says it is - A two star hotel. It's in a five star location however. The rooms are tired, clean, but the layout is funky. We had the double room but it requires climbing over my husband to get up from the bed. Forget about watching tv if you don't speak French, and you bump your head into it often. Every staff member we interacted with was fantastic. There is a tiny elevator but we are used to that in Spain so no big deal. We spent five nights, and for what we paid, I expected more, even if it's Paris.

We paid €420 for two nights at Hôtel de Nesle and would not return. At this price, we got (we didn't realise at the time of booking!) a room with NO private toilet; guests had to use a communal toilet in the corridor. The shower and sink were openly inside the bedroom, without proper bathroom privacy. This was especially inappropriate for a twin room booked for two adults. We complained immediately after seeing the room and requested a refund, but this was refused. We were offered a different room for the second night only after we had already paid and had limited practical options in Paris. That room had the only added benefit of ensuite bathroom. Both rooms had serious issues. We documented dirt, dust, stained bedding, deteriorated/dirty sealant, damaged finishes, poor maintenance, ants, excessive street noise and a hairdryer with a taped electrical cable and visible internal elements. A historic building can have character, but it does not excuse poor hygiene, ants, defective equipment, lack of bathroom privacy or unclear disclosure of communal toilet facilities. The impression the hotel makes on ther website and advertising is massively different what it actually is. The hotel offered only a €60 voucher for a future stay, which is meaningless because we would not stay there again. We are pursuing a refund through authorities.

Amazing stay here - staff were incredibly helpful and friendly. Super well located, right next to the Batobus stop. Quirky and charming rooms.

What a funky GEM! I adored this unique boutique hotel. Nothing fancy but TONS of character. Each room has its own theme and is lovely. The inner garden is perfect for a home made Happy Hour. The manager is so very helpful (let me check in very early and carried my heavy bag to my room). He also had a great sense of humor. Centrally located to everything and the cafe on the corner was a perfect place for a night cap.

The location of the hotel was excellent; we were able to walk everywhere. It’s very close to the Louvre Museum and many other attractions. Everyone at the reception was very sweet. The owner was very attentive and helped us a lot. Everyone was very friendly and welcoming. The hotel was clean, and our room was cleaned every day. We chose a room with a shared toilet, but the toilet was quite small. Other than that, everything was great. Thank you for everything! I will definitely recommend this place.
Kaj Granath★★★★★
Charming small boheme style hotel with great location on a calm side street just off Pont Neuf and rue Dauphine. I used to stay here in the 1980s, when it was still run by Mme Nesle herself. Today it's owned by her grandchild. Now it's renovated to much better standard, but still with the odd charm and oriental decorations in place (and no television in the room). My room even had a small private terrace. Simple but nice and clean, with very friendly staff. There is no breakfast, but plenty of food options nearby. It was a very nice experience to return almost 40 years later and spend a Saturday night here again.

I love this hotel with unbeatable location and extremely rare old 17th century house. You are transported back in time with modern amenities inside the room. I experienced a royal suite and a single room looking into the coutyard. Both were enchanting. The breakfeast is offered at 10 € but if you like it you can add more, which I did because it was high quality and truly French in an interesting room. The hotel is managed, should I say hosted, by the lovely Francisco, who has an amazing conversation at any level you wish -from philososphy to poetry to sociology to animal love. His welcome is extremely warm and extra requests always supported. He is a kinder staff you cannot find anywhere else, in contrast to another woman who was there sometimes and not so welcoming.

You will be in the middle of the hustle and bustle of the Latin Quarter. The hotel staff are incredibly nice! The rooms are clean with modern bathrooms with excellent water pressure! If you are looking for a room with a TV, fridge, gym, in room bars- probably not for you. Want to stay literally across the street from Notre Dame and walk around in the middle of Latin Quarter, then it's a winner!!!
Christian Roman★★★★★
This must be one of the most authentic hotels we’ve ever stayed in. Its beautiful interior, with many original features, sits just across the street from Notre Dame and right next to the Shakespeare and Company bookstore, transporting you to the Paris of the 17th century. Our room was comfortable, offering a view of the Cathedral and easy access to walk along the river to the Eiffel Tower, the Champs-Élysées, the Louvre, and more. Just around the corner, you’ll find the best creperie ever—perfect for enjoying a wonderful meal while watching the lively, chaotic rhythm of Parisian traffic.
Charlene Higgins★★★★★
This hotel is beautiful. The staff are wonderful and the service is impeccable. There are books and art everywhere. It's very safe. Serge Gainsbourg stayed here. I understand why. It's simply my favourite hotel in Paris. Humble and not pretentious. Safe and secure. Classy and arty.
Christina Yianni★★★★☆
I just wanted to say that I really loved the hotel! It was well located and certainly had lots of character and charm. The only thing that really did concern me greatly was the fire escape. I was on the top floor and would have to put a lever down to open a ladder to the roof. I can imagine that if the wooden stair did catch alight, and this exit was needed, I would find it really hard to use, especially in an alarmed state. That's my only concern but did feel that it was a big one as potentially compromised the safety of my family. I loved everything else about it, including the staff.

This my first time in Paris, so I cannot compare this hotel with others. I chose this one because the location is perfect! All the main attractions are close, and there are many nice restaurants nearby. We walked everywhere and did not use public transport. The staff were very kind and friendly. I felt very welcome. The hotel is small and cozy, but the building is old. The stairs are small, and the rooms are also small. The furniture and the bathroom are old, there not enough power sockets in the room, so it is better to bring an adapter. But we only came back to sleep, so it was not a big problem. The location and the friendly staff made our stay very nice!I would stay here again because the location and service is excellent.
Leoni Kaczmareck★★★★☆
We booked for 4 nights. ✅ BIG PLUS: Hot water boiler, friendly staff, great location, they’re RENOVATING the hotel rooms. ❌ BIG MINUS: VERY very NOISY from the streets even with ear plugs, dusty corners in the room, old bathroom, stains on bed cover, dirty old narrow staircase, every night people/drunks were peeing and pooping on the broadway in front of our window. 🥐 Breakfast 8,50€ for 1 croissant, 1 piece of baguette, Jam & Nutella & Butter in Small plastic boxes, 1 coffee, 1 juice. ➡️ PRICE/VALUE for a 2-star hotel and the location is okay. I wouldn’t book it again because it was so noisy from the streets, I had a bad night sleep even with ear plugs.
Kyle Johnson★★★★★
The Hotel Flor Rivoli is an absolutely charming find in the heart of Paris, perfectly balancing value and access, making it an excellent base for exploring the city. The location is its strongest asset—truly unbeatable. Situated right near the Louvre and key metro stops, stepping outside puts you instantly in the middle of Parisian life and within walking distance of many major sights. The service was equally impressive; the staff were incredibly kind, welcoming, and always ready with helpful local advice, making us feel right at home. Considering the prime area, the cost was surprisingly reasonable, offering fantastic value for the location. The only minor points to note are related to its central position. The room, while impeccably clean and charmingly decorated, was on the small side, as is common in historic Parisian buildings. Due to being right on the street, it was also a little noisy at night, but that’s the trade-off for being in the very center of the action. Overall, the superb location, great service, and excellent price point make Hotel Flor Rivoli a highly recommended choice for travelers prioritizing access and value.
Эрик Осийчук (Lamirian)★★★★★
Incredible location! Not too heavy, but nive breakfast. Clean rooms. I would go here again. Just the location alone is worth a lot.
András★★★★☆
The hotel is in a fantastic location, close to the subway. The staff was friendly and helpful. The room was clean and tidy, and the bed was very comfortable. Unfortunately, the window could not be opened, which would have been nice for ventilation, as there was a smell of water leak(like a foot odor) in the room. The carpet should be replaced and a wall socket should be installed next to the bed on the left.

I asked if they had french fries, and they flatly said no. However, 30 minutes later, the table next to me was eating french fries they had ordered. They didn't explain why; they just said "No!" It can't be because I'm Asian and they were annoyed. It can't be discrimination. I want to believe that. Is it because I don't speak French? The waiter here didn't offer any explanation. They just said "No!" That's unfriendly.

My husband & I celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary last week & stayed at the Hotel Cluny Square June 1-9, 2026. Everything about our stay was perfect! Front desk staff was friendly & knowledgeable, breakfasts were superb & included with our stay, location was excellent & we were able to walk to the museums, Eiffel Tower, gardens, etc., our room was very clean with superb housekeeping services & we turned on the a/c only at night to keep out the street noise, which was the right thing to do for us. We would definitely stay here again.

By far one of the loveliest hotels we have stayed at! We absolutely loved our stay here and can’t recommend it enough. The location is perfect, the staff is lovely and the rooms are very clean and comfortable. My husband surprised me for my birthday with the VIP package it included champagne, chocolates and roses waiting in our room when we arrived and it was wonderful. It was our first time in France and seeing that with the stunning wrap around balcony actually brought me to tears. Book this hotel!! You will not regret it.

A very pleasant stay! We arrived in Paris early and the owner was very kind in allowing my wife and I to check in early. The room was clean with a beautiful balcony, the bed was comfortable, and the hotel is very centrally located for traveling anywhere in Paris or beyond. Due to its very close proximity to both Metro and RER stations. As some other reviews noted the rooms are a bit small, but nothing out of the ordinary. Overall we had a wonderful stay and would stay again!

Anyone leaving negative reviews simply wasn't prepared for a hostel experience. Our room was great, standard bunk beds etc, we even had it to ourselves one night! The location is easy to find and feels safe and welcoming. Breakfast is generic but included and very appreciated (there's a coffee machine 😛). The buildings are very old, so expect one outlet per room, though there's an extension with USB ports and European outlets. The shower and sink are en-suite but the toilet is down the hall, make sure you bring your own hand soap for the sink. Reception was wonderful, and there's locked luggage storage available even after checkout, inside you'll also find individual cubbies with self-set passcodes. Just make sure to label your bags. Great location with a cafe and restaurant in the same alley. Worth noting: payment isn't processed until a few days before your stay, and you'll be told which of their 3 locations you're in via your reminder email.
Philipp Scholz★★☆☆☆
For 40 euros a night you get: 1. Toilets outside of your room. And weird toilet paper. 2. No shampoo for the shower. 3. Extra towels cost 6 euros. 4. There are three hostels so if you arrive at the address your app tells you to go to, they will send you to a different location and you have to walk another 300m. 5. Breakfast cereal bowls are the smallest I have ever seen. Legitimately, 3-4 cm deep??? 6. Picture down below is where you placed used cutlery after breakfast. They have comfortable mattresses. That's the one bonus I'll give them. And it's generally clean. Don't know how this can have 8.3/10 on Hostelworld.
Sander Sinan Erdal★★★★☆
As others have pointed out - this is a hostel! It‘s naturally rather rudimentary and I do think they should provide soap but other than that it’s a great place to stay in an amazing location. Staff was super nice and helpful too. I would definitely stay here again

Terrible place! There is no wifi on the rooms, they dont provide normal sockets for charging, just USB. The shower is IN THE ROOM and 💀 with just a curtain for privacy, I waited 7 minutes and there was just ice cold water. The beds are tiny and uncomfortable. The doors provide little no sound protection so you can hear yelling running kids from 8:00-23:00. I had to leave 2 nights early, paying 100% because I could not stay in this dump.

We both ordered steak (filet and rib eye) and watched it being cooked over an open fire at the back of the restaurant. Both of our steaks were cooked perfectly and the sides were delicious. We enjoyed our meals with the very good house red!

Very nice food - I had the Fillet Mignons of Pork crushed potatoes and house salad. Very filling, fresh salad, nice sauce, good price. Definitely more authentic that some of the more polished-looking bigger restaurants along the road, further from Rue Rivoli. Would definitely eat there again if in the area. One of the better Espresso coffees I had on this trip. Also there is an area downstairs for the bookcrossing initiative.

Great service staff. Fast service. Had the hanger steak and duck confit, with Creme brûlée. food was tasty for a mid range restaurant. Booked this very last minute for a short stay and we will absolutely stay here again. Excellent hotel, right off RER B for easy CDG access. For anyone with mobility concerns- there is no elevator and steep stairs! They will carry your luggage. We stayed in the top floor suite that sleeps 5. Great for a family, wouldn’t do it with a group of adults. Had only 3 for this stay and it worked out well. The staff was so nice and helpful. Wish it had been a longer stay!

We had a wonderful stay at Le Presbytère in Paris. The hotel is incredibly well located in Le Marais, right in the middle of one of the city’s liveliest neighbourhoods, yet somehow the moment you step inside it feels peaceful and serene. It’s a small hotel, but it feels very luxurious. The rooms are unique, beautifully designed, spotless, and both cozy and plush at the same time. The staff were all very friendly, especially Jérémy, who went above and beyond to be kind to my 8 year old daughter, who had decided she wanted to become his friend 🙂 We had breakfast one morning and were really impressed by how generous it was, especially considering children eat free. The only downside, if I had to mention one, is that there’s no elevator. But this is communicated very clearly by the hotel in advance, so it wasn’t a surprise at all, and they were happy to help with luggage. Still, after a long Paris day, the walk up to our third floor room could feel like a bit of a climb. Overall, I would wholeheartedly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a safe, clean, charming and extremely well located place to stay in Paris.

This a quaint boutique hotel right in the middle of everything! Perfect central location for visiting all the sites of Paris. Walk to Notre Dame, but very close to Chalet Metro that connects to everything. Lots of shops and cafes to choose from as well. The area has a lively night life yet is perfectly safe. Beds were super comfy with nice linens, and probably the nicest bathrooms/showers you can get in the city at this price point! We stayed in the room with the buttresses through it which was very unique. I would not recommend this room if you are up frequently in the middle of the night. I forgot they were there and hit my head the first night. But I still recommend it for the experience! The real jewel is the 24hr staff who welcomes you by name! Both employees we interacted with were very happy and helpful. I won't hesitate to recommend this hotel to all my clients. FYI - the pink flowers in the pictures were not there during my stay in June. They said they are taken down during the summer?? This was my only disappointment of the stay!

Some places are simply hotels. Le Presbytère is an experience. From the moment we arrived, we felt genuinely welcomed. This beautiful boutique hotel, located right in the heart of Paris, combines a perfect location with warmth, elegance, and an atmosphere that is truly unique. Every room has its own personality and charm—you can feel the history of the building while enjoying every modern comfort. From here, you can reach so many of Paris' most beautiful sights within minutes. And for those arriving by car, there is even a secure public underground parking garage just a short walk away. What truly makes this hotel exceptional, however, is its incredible team. Jeremy and his colleagues go far beyond what you would normally expect from hotel staff. Their kindness, genuine hospitality, and thoughtful recommendations for exploring Paris made our stay unforgettable. They don't just welcome guests—they make you feel at home. Thank you, Jeremy, and thank you to the entire team, for an absolutely wonderful stay. We will most certainly return to Le Presbytère whenever we come back to Paris. God bless you all. S&S

This hotel is amazing. The location is perfect, right on the doorsteps of bars and restaurants, as well as being close to the RER B stop. The room was very clean and has all the conveniences you need. There is a chargeable mini bar that is reasonably priced compared to most hotels. The hotel staff are very friendly and helpful, and always there to greet you with a smile (merci!). If I came back to Paris I wouldn't stay anywhere else. 5 stars.

Insider Tips for Booking Budget Hotels near Sainte-Chapelle

Securing a great rate in this historic district requires a bit of strategy and local know-how. The difference between a standard price and a bargain often comes down to when you book, how you book, and what you are willing to accept in terms of amenities. Here is how to maximize your savings while ensuring you stay in a safe and comfortable environment.

Travel in the Shoulder Season
The prices in Paris fluctuate wildly based on tourism peaks. If you want to stay near Sainte-Chapelle without paying premium rates, avoid the summer months of July and August, as well as the December holiday rush. The best times for lower rates are typically April to mid-May and October to early November. During these periods, the weather is often pleasant enough for walking, but the hotels are more willing to offer competitive pricing.

Embrace the "Classic" Room
In older Parisian buildings, the most affordable room categories are often classified as "Classic" or "Single" rooms. These rooms are frequently located on the higher floors (often accessible by a narrow staircase due to a lack of elevators) and offer less floor space. If you are traveling light and do not mind a bit of a climb, these rooms provide the exact same location and service as the suites for a fraction of the cost. Always check the room size in square meters before booking to avoid surprises.

Look for Breakfast Exclusions
While a hotel breakfast is convenient, it is rarely worth the €10 to €15 surcharge when you are on a strict budget. The streets around the Latin Quarter and Saint-Michel are packed with traditional boulangeries where you can buy a fresh croissant and coffee for just a few euros. Opting for a "room only" rate allows you to eat like a local and saves you a significant amount of money over a multi-day stay.

Check for Air Conditioning and Elevators
Older budget hotels in the 5th arrondissement often lack modern amenities like air conditioning and elevators. While this keeps the prices low, it can be uncomfortable if you are visiting during an unexpected heatwave or if you have mobility restrictions. If these are important to you, filter your search results specifically for these amenities. Be aware that adding these filters often pushes you slightly out of the "budget" category, so weigh your physical comfort against your financial goals.

Book Directly with the Hotel
While third-party booking sites are great for research, the best rate is often found by emailing or calling the hotel directly. Small, family-run hotels near the Île de la Cité frequently offer "direct booking" discounts or free upgrades for guests who bypass the large travel agencies. It also allows you to ask specific questions about the room layout, the noise level, or the view, ensuring you get exactly what you need for a restful stay.

Choosing a budget hotel near Sainte-Chapelle allows you to experience the romance of Paris without the financial stress that often accompanies a city break. By focusing on the smaller, characterful hotels that line the winding streets of the Latin Quarter, you are choosing authenticity over extravagance. You are paying for the location, the safety of the neighborhood, and the convenience of being able to walk back to your room after an evening concert in the chapel.

The true value of these accommodations lies in their proximity to the city’s soul. When you step out of your hotel in the morning, you are not spending an hour on the metro; you are immediately immersed in the scent of fresh bread, the sound of the river, and the sight of centuries-old architecture. That is an experience that no amount of luxury amenities can replace, and it is available to every traveler who knows where to look.
