Strasbourg’s culinary reputation often revolves around choucroute, tarte flambée, and hearty Alsatian meat dishes. Yet beneath the timber-framed facades of Petite France and the modern glass of the European Parliament district lies a thriving plant-based scene. Over the past decade, the city has evolved from a challenging destination for vegetarians into a genuine gastronomic hub for meat-free dining.
The shift reflects a broader change in French eating habits, but Strasbourg adds its own cross-border twist. Influenced by both German heartiness and French technique, local chefs have embraced vegetables, legumes, and dairy in creative ways. You will find everything from cozy, family-run bistros to sleek, contemporary spaces where vegetables take center stage with remarkable sophistication.
For the visiting vegetarian, this means no more settling for a sad side salad or a plate of plain pasta. Instead, you can explore inventive seasonal menus, artisanal cheese boards, and plant-forward interpretations of regional classics. Many restaurants now clearly label vegetarian and vegan options, and staff are generally more knowledgeable about dietary needs than in years past.
The city’s compact size is another advantage. Most of the best vegetarian-friendly restaurants sit within walking distance of the cathedral, the university, or the Krutenau district. You can easily plan a full day of sightseeing around breakfast, lunch, and dinner without needing a car or tram pass.
Whether you are a strict vegetarian, a flexitarian, or simply someone who appreciates beautifully prepared vegetables, Strasbourg offers remarkable variety. From casual lunch spots to elegant evening destinations, the options below represent the finest meat-free dining experiences in the Alsatian capital right now.
Each venue has been selected for its consistent quality, creative use of seasonal produce, and welcoming atmosphere. While some are fully vegetarian, others are omnivore restaurants that treat vegetarian cooking with exceptional care and respect.

We had a great experience at Harmonie Bowl and Juice. Gluten-free and vegetarian options were absolutely no problem here; in fact, everything on the menu is both gluten-free and vegan, which made things really easy.
The menu isn’t huge, but there’s definitely something for everyone. The food was very, very tasty, especially the spring rolls, which were our highlight.
The service was very friendly, and the ambiance is lovely. We were lucky to get a cozy spot by the window, which made the visit even more enjoyable.
Overall, a place we’d happily come back to!

Amazing food, super friendly staff and great atmosphere. I had the Tokyo Bowl and a cheesecake, everything so delicious! Without a doubt my favourite vegan place in Strasbourg.

We went for dinner at Harmonie Bowl & Juice.
We ordered spring rolls, homemade iced tea, mate, noodle soup, curry and carrot cake for dessert.
Spring rolls: very tasty, really good.
Homemade iced tea: unfortunately disappointing. It was basically cold tea with a few berries and no real flavor. For €4.50, I expected more – I could have made it better myself.
Noodle soup: very tasty and comforting, perfect for cold weather.
Curry: also very tasty. You can choose between noodles or rice; we chose noodles.
Carrot cake: unfortunately didn’t taste like carrot cake and was rather dry. €6 for a small slice felt a bit expensive.
The service was excellent – the staff speaks English, French, and German.
Despite a few small downsides, we would come back.
Gabriella★★★★★
The food was absolutely delicious! The different flavours and ingredients used make up such tasty dishes. The service was a bit slow, it seems they’re a tad understaffed, but the staff was polite.

Harmonie Bowl and Juice | 100% Vegan Restaurant, Strasbourg France | Table Service.
We discovered Harmonie Bowl & Juice recently and we loved it!
We had:
The juice of the day, which was carrot, apple, oranges and ginger...
As a starter, we had the Nems and Crudités...
We then had the Phnom Penh soup...
And the Crêpe au Curcuma...
These three dishes were excellent! We really enjoyed them!
For dessert:
The Cheesecake...
And the Cake of the day...
We also enjoyed the desserts
The restaurant is spacious and nicely decorated... They offer indoor and outdoor seasonal seating. They are located in a very nice Plaza in the City Center of Strasbourg.
We had an Awesome Vegan Food Experience in this restaurant! We can't wait to go back!

Warmly welcomed in the restuarant. Cosy nice atmosphere. Mango Lassi was quite sweet but refreshing. Dahi Puri was crispy but lacked authentic chutney flavours. Aloo paratha was heavy on the spices specially black pepper. Overall food tasted okay. Also it takes time to get each dish served.

In Strasbourg for a few days and wanted to try Indian food so we chose Rasoi, and enjoyed our meal.
I ordered the Paneer Butter Masala with plain rice and thought the dish was light on flavor but very good. We ordered some Onion Bhaji for a starter and we both thought the dish was amazing.
My partner ordered the Malai Kofta and enjoyed the flavors. Overall, very good food and great service.

Thanks to Google Maps for showing us this place when we were literally craving some good Indian food in Strasbourg!
The restaurant is just a 5-minute walk from Notre Dame de Strasbourg, so the location is really convenient. The setting is beautiful, with both indoor and outdoor seating. We chose to sit inside and really enjoyed the atmosphere.
The lady who served us was actually one of the owners, and she was extremely humble, warm and sweet. She suggested some of their best dishes for us, and we are so glad we listened to her recommendations.
The pani puri was top notch. It looked so fancy when it arrived in little shot glasses, and having it served that way made the whole experience even more fun! The puris were crisp, the fillings were flavourful, and I really enjoyed the chutneys. The bhajis were also excellent and had that comforting, homestyle Indian taste.
For the main course, we ordered the mushroom and matar curry, which was packed with flavour and had the level of spice we were looking for. The kadhi pakora was another highlight. It had that proper Punjabi character, with the tangy yoghurt-based kadhi and pakoras soaking up all that flavour.
Overall, we had a really lovely dining experience. But honestly, one of my favourite parts was getting to chat with the owner herself. She was genuinely such a lovely person and made us feel very welcome.
I would 100% visit again whenever I’m back in Strasbourg. If you are craving proper Indian food in the city, this is definitely a place worth visiting.
Wishing the team lots of success. They truly deserve it!

PLEASE BE AWARE! ⚠️ Hygiene concerns:
My husband and I were on a short visit to Strasbourg, with limited time, and the wait for our food was excessively long (1 and a half hours since we arrived and left, and we were the first guest and almost the last to be served). The experience was quite disappointing.
To start, we ordered an Indian salad and some spring rolls, and we found a piece of SOIL in both. It was really unpleasant. We informed the waitress, who simply said, “I’m sorry,” but did not offer to remove the dishes from the bill or provide any kind of compensation.
My husband ordered the tofu masala, and honestly, he ended up very disappointed. It was a completely bland dish that seemed as though cubes of tofu had simply been cut up on the spot and thrown directly onto the plate before being served. The flavor left a lot to be desired. On the other hand, my mushroom masala was tasty.
The service was very friendly, but that does not make up for the extremely long wait or finding a chunk of soil in 2 plates. I would not come back.
expatmum 2★★★☆☆
I love Indian food and regularly go to them so I was quite excited to try this one but was left underwhelmed. The presentation of the dishes was good but the taste was nothing spectacular. There was an amusement bouche which was a non descript fried thing. I got a starter that was supposed to be crispy and it really wasn't and the curry was fine but nothing more. For 27 euros, I found it expensive for nothing great.

What a find for two vegans looking for a delicious meal on a hot afternoon! Absolutely delicious, fresh food and the desserts were cold (a Black Forest cake - we’d been looking for a vegan version for days) was cold and stupendous. Highly recommend if you are in Strasbourg.

A lovely little café with a romantic outdoor seating area and a cosy indoor space, a friendly atmosphere – thanks in particular to the lovely staff – and a good selection of hot and cold drinks, delicious cakes and light bites. The highly creative and delicious vegan burger deserves a special mention! Everything is reasonably priced despite the prime city centre location. Highly recommended!

They offer several gluten-free options, all delicious and full of flavor. As someone with celiac disease, I felt confident and safe with the choices they provided. I highly recommend it!

First of all the service was great, the waitress was so kind to translate the whole menu for us. But unfortunately I felt the food was overpriced with small portion sizes. It was tasty but for these prices I do expect to have a bit more. The “chicken” wraps were really good but the Gulasch and Rösti were just too small in size but tasty tho.
Masoud Torkan★★☆☆☆
The only option they have for the brunch is a gluten-free menu.
Unfortunately, it is not tasty at all. And super ordinary with no connection between items.
The salad was not fresh and I can say it was old. You can see in the pictures.
But the staff is nice and helpful and the atmosphere is amazing.

Felt like stepping into another world when I entered the restaurant. At times they do play tibetan videos, many cultural decorations and what we enjoyed most is the reading shelf with Dalai Lama books!
We strongly recommend the lentil soup, beef noodle soups and the mini cake! The flavours are amazing!!
The cake they explained is made from special flour from Tibet and usually they have it for breakfast every morning. Desserts are not common in their culture.
The service is good, the lady speaks English which helped us as we are not strong in French. I took the chance to learn French by reading the French books.
It is very vegetarian friendly!!
We visited the place 3 times across 2 days 🙂

Me and my boyfriend went there for dinner. I recommend reserving a a table because it got full fairly quickly. The food was delicious, they have vegetarian and vegan options, the waitress was really kind and spoke slowly l, so I understood her with my mid french. I really recommend the mixed veggie plate, because I was so sad when I was finished eating because it tastes that good. I also wish I lived closer so I could eat there more often.

I expected better after the past high reviews, but I did not like the ambience at all and the food was very disappointing.
I came for the Ramen, but I don’t recommend it. Their other plates look much better. I was disappointed that the ramen looks mostly like frozen vegetables soaked in a store bough broth. There are more peas than noodles In this dish, the portion size is way too small, and there is barely any ramen liquid. I do not recommend their ramen but maybe other stuff is better. There is very little liquid and I am sorry that I have to pay 12 euro for an awful meal that had nothing good about it.

Good food and nice atmosphere. The place was cute and nicely decorated. A menu with a main meal, a drink, and a dessert costs 16,5e and a single chicken bowl I took was around 13e. The bowl was tasty and fresh. We also took a tiramisu which was fine. Would recommend.

Everything we had was super delicious even though the kitchen was “closed”! We had green gazpacho, pizza (only item I wouldn’t recommend), stew, lemon cake, lemon pie, quiche, and a cherry pudding thingy. All items (except pizza) were great tasting and satisfying.
It was a hot day (95 degrees Fahrenheit) and the restaurant was not air conditioned and there were ZERO fans. Very uncomfortable so I suggest not going when it was hot.

The best vegan restaurant ever. The food was all very tasty with lots of options from sweet to savory. We also ordered a very flavourful cold brew coffe. The view and atmosphere was lovely with very nice staff. 10/10 would recommend💖

La Bouture has a cozy, student-friendly atmosphere—it’s a good spot to hang out and get some work done, especially when the libraries are closed. The vibe is relaxed and quiet enough to focus, but the place could be a bit cleaner. Our table wasn’t really clean when we arrived, which was a bit annoying while trying to study.
I tried the cactus and it was okay—not bad, just nothing special. The hot chocolate didn’t really meet expectations; it tasted a bit strange and not very comforting, which is kind of the whole point of hot chocolate.
On the bright side, the bathrooms were super clean—honestly cleaner than our table.
Overall, I wouldn’t come here for the food or drinks, but if you’re looking for a peaceful place to study with a chill vibe and decent Wi-Fi, it’s a solid option.

Food ok-ish.
We unfortunately didn’t feel very welcome with children. I do think, though, that the experience might be quite different if you ask to have brunch in the children’s room itself. That way, the staff may feel more relaxed about the children playing.
The place is advertised as kid-friendly and has a dedicated play area, which is exactly why we chose it for brunch. Our children were playing and behaving like normal children do in a space designed for them, yet we constantly felt as though we were somehow being hurried to leave — even though, for most of the time, they were the only children in the playroom.
We eventually decided to leave when the waitress came over and told us, with a very visibly annoyed attitude, that the children were “on the table.” When I went to check, they were actually only sitting on one of the chairs in the playroom, calmly, at a table that had been empty until them, when another family wanted to sit there. Of course they needed to move, and they did immediately. But this could have been communicated normally, rather than as though the children had done something terrible!
At that point, it really reinforced the feeling that we were expected to leave, even though I hadn’t even finished my coffee. For a place that specifically promotes itself as family- and child-friendly, the whole experience felt surprisingly uncomfortable.
Of course, nobody expects the restaurant to be a daycare (as they remind you :)) ), and children remain entirely the parents’ responsibility. What I still don’t understand is whether parents are actually supposed to be able to have brunch nearby (as they advertise) while their children play independently in the children’s room, or whether a parent is expected to stay in the room with them at all times, regardless of the child’s age, simply for the staff to feel comfortable. The way the space is advertised suggests the former, but our experience made it feel much more like the latter. If it is the last option I do not understamd why we were not placed in the room, although it was free for 90% of the time we were there.
I think they should reconsider their advertising and decide if they really want children on the ground :)). Seems a little bit stressful for them as a business.

Very delicious food and a lovely, cozy atmosphere. The staff were very friendly, although you could tell they were a bit overwhelmed at times. Our request to have the coffee served together with the food was unfortunately ignored. Overall, however, it’s highly recommended with excellent food—just keep in mind that it is on the expensive side.
Practical Tips for Vegetarian Dining in Strasbourg
Navigating a new city’s food scene can feel overwhelming, especially when dietary preferences limit your choices. These practical suggestions will help you eat well, avoid disappointment, and discover the full depth of Strasbourg’s vegetarian offerings without unnecessary stress.
Learn a few key French phrases. While many servers in central Strasbourg speak some English, knowing how to say “Je suis végétarien(ne)” or “Est-ce que ce plat contient de la viande ou du poisson?” goes a long way. It shows respect and helps avoid misunderstandings about hidden ingredients like lardons, gelatine, or fish stock.
Book ahead for dinner, especially on weekends. Strasbourg is a busy tourist and business destination. The most popular vegetarian-friendly restaurants fill up quickly from Thursday through Saturday. A quick phone call or online reservation ensures you are not left wandering the streets hungry.
Look beyond the word “vegetarian” on menus. Many traditional Alsatian dishes can be adapted. Munster cheese, spaetzle, and onion tart are naturally meat-free or easily modified. Ask if a dish can be prepared without meat, and you will often be surprised by how accommodating kitchens can be.
Explore the markets for casual meals. Strasbourg’s outdoor markets, particularly the Place Broglie market on Wednesdays and Fridays, are excellent for assembling a picnic. Fresh bread, local cheeses, seasonal fruit, and Alsatian wines make for a memorable and affordable lunch.
Do not ignore the surrounding neighborhoods. The Krutenau district near the university tends to offer more progressive, plant-forward menus than the heavily touristic streets around the cathedral. A short ten-minute walk can dramatically improve both quality and value.
Strasbourg has quietly become one of the most rewarding French cities for vegetarian travelers. The combination of Alsatian generosity, French culinary discipline, and a growing respect for plant-based eating means you can eat exceptionally well without compromise. From inventive tasting menus to humble bowls of spaetzle with melted cheese, the city rewards those who seek out its best tables.
Take your time, ask questions, and let the local food culture surprise you. The twelve restaurants above offer an excellent starting point, but they are only the beginning of what this dynamic border city has to offer.
