Bordeaux is synonymous with world-class wine, but its culinary reputation has evolved dramatically over the last decade. While the city remains a bastion of traditional French gastronomy—think entrecôte à la bordelaise and canelés—a vibrant plant-based scene has quietly taken root. For vegetarians, navigating a city historically focused on meat and fish can sometimes feel limiting, but that is no longer the case.
Today, Bordeaux offers a diverse array of dining options that celebrate vegetables, legumes, and dairy in creative ways. From cozy neighborhood bistros to chic, contemporary dining rooms, chefs are embracing the region’s incredible produce. Whether you are a strict vegetarian or simply looking to reduce your meat intake, the "Port of the Moon" has a seat waiting for you.
The key to eating well here is knowing where to look beyond the tourist-heavy terraces. The best vegetarian spots are often tucked away in the vibrant Chartrons district, the trendy Saint-Pierre quarter, or near the bustling Marché des Capucins. These areas have become hubs for innovative cooking that prioritizes freshness and flavor over tradition for tradition’s sake.
In this guide, we have curated a list of the absolute best places to eat meat-free in Bordeaux. We have focused on restaurants that offer dedicated vegetarian menus or exceptional à la carte options that go beyond the standard "salade de chèvre chaud." You won’t have to settle for a plate of sides here.
We have evaluated these establishments based on the quality of ingredients, creativity of the dishes, atmosphere, and value for money. Our goal is to ensure you experience the best of what this beautiful city has to offer, regardless of your dietary preferences.
Whether you are visiting for a weekend of wine tasting or are a local looking for a new favorite haunt, these restaurants prove that Bordeaux’s food scene is inclusive and exciting. Here are our top picks for the best vegetarian dining experiences in the city.

I searched for a vegetarian restaurant and it wasn't an easy task in Bordeaux, Mamacam did not disappoint, a really friendly owner/chef prepared a lovely 3 course menu, all.dishes very fresh and homemade. We would definitely come back!

Stopped by for coffee and cake and wasn't disappointed, lovely charming service and yummy cake. I like the decor and ambience and will be back for more. Plenty of quaint seating and could be a good spot for a romantic lunch.

Fabulous restaurant for vegan / vegetarian food. We had lunch here twice because the food and chef were so good. It's small, has restricted opening hours and a limited menu. However, it's just a delightful little place, the chef is wonderful and the combination of foods and flavours is so wholesome and tasty and we loved it.
Katharina Julia Stopka★★★★★
What a gem! Mammacam is a cozy and intimate spot where you can really feel the love put into every dish. The food was absolutely delicious, and you can tell right away that only high-quality, fresh ingredients are used. The atmosphere is warm and personal, with the chef herself serving with a smile, which makes the experience even more special.
The cookies were truly the best I’ve ever had – perfectly baked and full of flavor. After the meal, I was even given thoughtful tips on other vegan-friendly places to check out in Bordeaux, which was such a kind touch.
Highly recommended for anyone looking for authentic, flavorful vegan food in a welcoming setting.
Kenton Price★★★☆☆
Disappointing and expensive. Expected plates to be €9.50 as per photos on here but they are now €13. We had coffee and disappointing cake and left feeling ripped off. Pity, the owner is lovely and we had high hopes, but the food just wasn't very good.

Highly recommend this lovely restaurant!!! Nice people, charming space and very tasty vegetarian food options!
Very creative and tasty dishes - watermelon sashimi and roasted peppers for starters were a great choice!
Roasted vegetables and fermented peaches plus dates as the main course were amazing as well!
Homemade ginger kombucha was delicious, too.
Unfortunately we couldn’t try their dinner menue as we went their for lunch!

Ate three delicous meals here. A delight for a vegetarian. Visually beautiful and very tasty. Good amout of food.

I really liked the ambiance of this cafe, the board games, the decor - it felt friendly and relaxed. I also loved the crockery - so nice to look at and use.
I came for brunch and it was good. Definitely one of those times when looks can be decieving. On first glance the grey sauce with my main plate was not appealing - but it was really tasty! The cookie was the best bit though - absolutely delicious!
My egg was also runnier than I personally like, which was a shame. Still, a very lovely experience while in Bordeaux and I would come back if I return to the city.

I ordered a homemade citrone infused water and it was ok. I think it cost 3 euros.
I took the weekday lunch set.
For starters I took the watermelon chirashi with rice and green peas. Basically it was watermelon marinated with soya sauce.it was very salty due to the marination. The portion is quite small and it cost 7 euros. In my opinon, not value for money and I felt like I was eating soya sauce with rice.
For the mains, I ordered the corn gnocchi with vegetables. The poach egg was perfect but overall taste was ok. Portion quite small for 14euro.
For dessert , I ordered a vegan hazelnut with raisins cake.
With the set lunch, all three items come up to $23 euro.
That's the reason why I gave 3 stars - the overall taste of the food and size of the portions vs. the price tag.
Service was excellent though and I left a little tip ! 😀

I honestly would have ate here every day, but we weren’t in Bordeaux for that long so only managed to eat here twice. First day we tried a Buddha bowl of fresh vegetables and tempeh with peanut sauce which was so good. Next time I tried the kimcheeze burger and creme brûlée. Honestly this was amazing vegan food and such a welcome surprise to find that I had to review it to spread the word.
Basia Pawlik★★★★★
One of the best places to eat in Bordeaux and on top of it fully vegan with big menu to choose from. Chicken skewers were possibly the best ones I ever had. Food is absolutely delicious and filling, the place also is very nice looking. The only problem I had was the fact, that smoking outside is allowed, so you may be unfortunate to seat between clouds of smoke (I don’t blame the place itself, it is a sad habit everywhere). I’ll definitely come back once again in Bordeaux
Julien Penalba★★★★★
Very tasty food (we are not vegan by any means but we enjoyed it). The vegan chicken was better than a lot of chicken I ate. It was super hot inside despite the airco (didn’t seem to do much)
Helena Kwong★★★★★
Incredible food! The veggie ribs were standout—so flavorful, perfectly seasoned, and full of texture. Everything tasted so fresh and well-layered. Highly recommend giving this place a try!

Amazing food in this place tucked away close to the St Michel basilica. The food is full of flavours and freshly cooked. Apparently one of Bordeaux’s favourite vegetarian restaurant. I concur, the only thing service was a tad slow. But it won’t stop us going back next time we are in Bordeaux. Also, thank you for accommodating us without a reservation on a Saturday night!

Excellent vegan food and warm service. I was absolutely thrilled to stumble upon this fully vegan restaurant with many gluten free options. Food is clearly prepared with care and love and the wine recommendations are great. Definitely visiting again!
Zara Quiroga★★★★★
It’s “easy” for Dis Leur to stand out in the Bordeaux vegan dining scene because there isn’t honestly much “competition”. But the thing is that, the food served here, would stand out even in cities where there is much more on offer. The dishes are creative in terms of flavor combinations and beautifully presented. It’s not the kind of place you come to stuff yourself though. There are also limited menu options, which I believe keep changing (so at least you can check to see if you fancy them before you reserve) - 2 appetizers, 2 mains and 2 desserts, plus vegan cheese platter if you go for it. Come with that in mind and enjoy tasting and enjoying as you go. The atmosphere is nice and cozy, a bit elegant, but certainly not stiff. A great place for a date night, I’d say. I simply LOVE how committed to everything local, seasonal and sustainable - from kitchen, to table, to drinks.. even in the bathroom. I would return, for sure, and I’d recommend dining here for anyone into good food and pleasant dining experiences - you don’t need to be a vegan for that!
naomi mason★★★★★
Without a shadow of a doubt, this is one of the best dining experiences I've ever had, and one of the best vegan meals I've ever eaten.
Everything was perfect, the waitress was kind and attentive, the menu was thoughtful and innovative, the food itself was absolutely delicious and even more, it was beautifully presented. I honestly felt like every course got better and better. The poached pear dessert was absolutely delicious!
Highly recommended and I will certainly be coming back when I return to Bordeaux!
Tanyo Sertev★★★★★
This was definitely our highlight of our trip to Bordeaux. The service was immaculate. The food was divine. Even our non vegan friend was impressed. Can't recommend this place enough, honestly! ❤️❤️❤️
Sarah Marie Mooney★★★★★
This place was amazing! The staff were friendly and helpful. The menu, although small, was varied and delicious.
One of our party ordered two starters instead of a main meal, the other two each ordered a different main. We then ordered the cheese duo and the cafe gourmand for dessert. So we tried most of the menu! All the food was very well presented.
If you're looking for a special vegan dining experience in Bordeaux then you must go here.

A very sweet and local-feeling place in Bordeaux. We had a warm dish with lots of vegetables and noodles, and it was really tasty. It was fresh, comforting, and full of flavor. Also a great option if you don’t want to eat meat, which is not always easy to find while traveling. We really enjoyed it and would definitely recommend this place.

Wonderful. Meal of the day restaurant. English only will have a tougher time, but super easy to order with a bit of French. Or just say oui and get a plate. Any option will be perfect. They also have wine, beer, sodas, etc to drink. And after, a dessert or coffee.

Lovely little vegetarian cafe, had some great options for us vegans too!
They have a lighter/brunch style option for pre midday, and then full menu from 12 onwards.
Great selection of cakes too and the vegan cookie cake was so good, we had seconds!

Had a truly outstanding and creative meal--the best meal I've had in a long time! The service was impeccable and the environment was bright, friendly, and casual. Do yourself a favour and check out this restaurant, especially when they have a special menu.

While walking around came across there interesting plat d jour for lunchtime so decided to go in. Suggest you go into the main restaurant area rather than the patio area at the front as it’s lovely in there. All the food is sourced from there farm so only the freshest of produce. All our dishes were very tasty and well presented. 1st course was duck 2nd course was veal and dessert was pear. All the staff were relaxed including the chefs so the whole experience was amazing. Will definitely come back here again and recommend to anyone.

Wonderful experience, short menu of excellent dishes, everything was great.
Goksu Cali★★★☆☆
We came to Les Recoltants with really high expectations, having backed up by our local friends, we were hoping for a great experience. But the service, although kind, fell short. The serving times were very long, there was no real attention. Empathizing with the fact that the hot weather played a role on the motivation, we still felt that it was hard to request something. About food, the "entree" was delicious. The gazpacho was not up to standards. The main course was ok but dull. For the price point it was not what we wished for. Having said that, we admire the philosophy of the restaurant and would like it to do better and match the idea with execution with more precision.
Good luck!
Philippe★★★★☆
The focus is on the ingredients. They're minimally transformed and elegantly served. The dishes were not exactly to my taste and I forced myself a bit to finish, but I appreciate their focus on high quality products and they have a good sense of how to mix textures. Many of their starters and several of their main items are cold, which I would really have liked to know before ordering as I don't like cold food nearly as much (particularly on a frisky late October day). You pay at the entrance when you live by telling them your table number.

The restaurant has such a lovely ambiance—airy, cozy, and welcoming. The food was generally good, although the regular salad was a bit tasteless. Overall, we enjoyed everything else we ordered, especially the kids’ meals. The service was also great, and the staff were very friendly, attentive, and accommodating. Overall, we had a pleasant dining experience and would be happy to come back.

When we arrived they took forever to seat us, same during serving and took them slightly over half an hour to provide us with a bill and be able to pay for the food
The food was great but not worth all the waiting around. Completely different treatment for non french speakers.
Marina Cerezo★☆☆☆☆
We went to this restaurant to celebrate my sister’s birthday while staying in Bordeaux. Terrible decision.
I informed them in advance that it was her birthday, and yet they still gave us a table at the back of the rooftop. The variety on the menu was very limited and the quality… it’s just not what you expect for the price you are paying.
But the worst part was that I had ordered a surprise birthday cake in advance, which I paid €32 for, and they didn’t even remember. Once our table was cleared and 20 minutes had passed with no cake arriving, I had to go and ask for it twice. They told us it was ready but that they didn’t know which table it was for. That was a lie — it wasn’t ready at all. The had to improvise a cake last minute.
Once the cake was ready they still couldn’t find the table (even though we had reminded them 3 times).
The result: the cake finally arrived at 11.30 (we finished dinner at 10.30), served in a pot, raw and melted. It couldn’t even be cut into pieces, so we had to eat it straight from the pot.
And obviously, it was no longer a surprise for my sister. With all this chaos going on, she obviously realised what was happening.
Absolutely disappointing service from the restaurant. We didn’t receive a single apology.
The best thing about this place: the views.
Ning Leow★★★★☆
It was the rare restaurant that could accommodate a massive group of 20 without a reservation.
Service was friendly but it was challenging to get the servers’ attention, and our food did take an hour after putting in our orders before they started to arrive, so we were left ravenous for a while. My steak was so-so with a rarely dry under seasoned cous cous, but their deviled eggs appetiser and pizzas were great!
John Soanes★★★★☆
Nice spot with epic views. Just had burgers, flavourful and properly cooked.

**Restaurant Review**
This spot takes French cooking in an exciting direction. The chefs use classic French techniques but add spices from Mexico to Asia, giving every dish a surprising twist without ever feeling heavy-handed. The flavors are bright, layered, and memorable.
The ingredients—whether it’s fish, poultry, or produce—are all sourced locally, and you can really taste the freshness. The menu feels adventurous while still being comforting and balanced.
Their wine list is fantastic, with bottles from all over France. It’s broad enough for any mood, whether you want a crisp white from Alsace or a deep red from Bordeaux. The staff are also great at suggesting pairings.
Service is spot-on: welcoming, attentive, and knowledgeable without being stuffy. It all adds up to a dining experience that’s both relaxed and special—a place that makes you want to return

A bar with a connoisseur's wine list and a creative aproach to cuisine. The menu is super tiny, we literally tried 90 per cent in one sitting, but there wasn't a single miss. Interesting flavor combinations, including watermelon and tuna sashimi with local spices, presented in the most artistic fashion. Very kindly priced, too.

Practical Tips for Vegetarian Dining in Bordeaux
While Bordeaux is increasingly accommodating, the French dining culture still operates on specific rhythms and etiquettes that can impact your experience. Knowing how to navigate menus, meal times, and local terminology will ensure you eat well without any hiccups. These practical strategies will help you maximize the quality of your meals and avoid the common pitfalls that vegetarians sometimes face in traditional French cities.
Understand "Végétarien" vs. "Végane"
In France, "végétarien" generally means lacto-ovo vegetarian (dairy and eggs are included). If you avoid all animal products, you must specifically ask for "végane" or "sans produits laitiers ni œufs." Do not assume that a vegetarian dish is dairy-free, as French cuisine loves butter and cream.
Check for "Plats du Jour"
Many traditional brasseries will offer a daily special (plat du jour) that is often vegetarian, even if the main menu looks meat-heavy. Always ask the server what the daily special is, as chefs often use this as an opportunity to showcase seasonal vegetables from the market.
Lunch Service is Strict
Bordeaux restaurants typically serve lunch from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM and dinner from 7:30 PM onward. If you arrive at 3:00 PM or 6:00 PM, most kitchens will be closed. Plan your day around these hours, or look for "service continu" (continuous service) cafes if you need to eat outside standard times.
Look for "Cuisine du Marché"
Restaurants that advertise "cuisine du marché" (market cuisine) are your best allies. This means the chef shops daily at local markets and builds the menu around what is fresh. These establishments are almost always more willing and able to create a stunning off-menu vegetarian plate using the day’s produce.
Don’t Skip the Entrées
Sometimes the most creative vegetarian food in a traditional French restaurant is found in the starter section (entrées). It is perfectly acceptable to order two or three entrées as your main meal. This allows you to sample a variety of textures and flavors, such as a velvety soup, a composed salad, and a vegetable terrine.
As Bordeaux continues to evolve as a culinary destination, the distinction between "vegetarian food" and simply "good food" is blurring. The restaurants featured here are not just alternatives for those who don’t eat meat; they are destinations in their own right.
