12 Best Sushi Spots in Saint-Tropez

While Saint-Tropez is world-renowned for its glittering marina, private beach clubs, and celebrity clientele, the culinary landscape extends far beyond rosé and truffle pizza. For discerning travelers and locals alike, the quest for exceptional Japanese cuisine has become a vital part of the Riviera lifestyle. The demand for precision-cut fish, perfectly seasoned rice, and innovative maki has turned this Provençal fishing village into an unexpected haven for sushi aficionados.

The unique geography of Saint-Tropez plays a significant role in the quality of the sushi available here. Being situated directly on the Mediterranean allows chefs access to local catches like sea bream (dorade), red mullet (rouget), and langoustines, which can be integrated into traditional Edomae-style preparations. This fusion of French maritime terroir with Japanese technique creates a dining experience that is distinctly "Tropézien."

However, the influx of luxury tourism has also created a market saturated with high-priced establishments where the view often overshadows the quality of the food. Distinguishing between a tourist trap serving frozen fish and a true culinary destination requires local knowledge. We have analyzed the sourcing practices, rice preparation, and chef credentials to identify venues that honor the true spirit of sushi.

Whether you are looking for a glamorous dinner spot after a day at Nikki Beach or a quiet, authentic omakase experience tucked away from the harbor crowds, the options are diverse. From traditional nigiri to contemporary fusion rolls that cater to the Riviera palate, there is a style to suit every preference. The key is knowing where to look beyond the flashy signage and champagne menus.

In this guide, we focus on restaurants that prioritize craftsmanship and ingredient integrity. We consider not only the taste but also the atmosphere, service, and overall value proposition—elements that are crucial when dining in one of the most expensive postal codes in France. You will find venues ranging from historic institutions to modern izakayas.

We have curated a list that balances the classic with the contemporary, ensuring that every recommendation meets a high standard of freshness and authenticity. Read on to discover where to find the most exquisite cuts of bluefin tuna, the most delicate rolls, and the most memorable Japanese dining experiences in the Gulf of Saint-Tropez.

This is the best sushi I have had. I was visiting for the day and stumbled across this little restaurant. The staff were accommodating and really friendly. I wasn’t expecting much for a small hole in the wall, but the sushi was amazing! Highly recommend eating here. The prices are reasonable and affordable for good quality food.

Amazing sushi!! Super friendly staff and fish were amazing quality. You really get amazing quality and quantity for the price, very worth it. They turn into smash burgers at 12am and is the only one in Saint Tropez. Try it out 100% if you’re near, will definitely be back!

The best late night food if you want to eat something Asian and good at the same time. The food is amazing, quick and simple. Can't ask for more for such a small restaurant with a little outdoor area seating and a very friendly service.

Found this spot searching for Asian food on Google as we needed a break from Italian and French food. The owner was super friendly. The food was so good. The poke bowl was amazing. We also ordered yakisoba and a few rolls. All were good. There are only a few tables outdoor so it’s not much of an ambiance, but it’s great for a quick, casual meal. Would come again!

Very rude and unprofessional service. We waited for someone to take our order, but no one came. When we finally got up to leave and explained that we had been waiting, the staff member dismissively replied, “Alright, goodbye.” This is no way to treat customers. Basic courtesy and respect should be the bare minimum. A very disappointing experience.

We had dinner here one evening as a couple, and it was one of the best dining experiences we’ve ever had, possibly the best of all. The food was absolutely outstanding: beautifully presented, full of flavor, and the menu offered an excellent variety of choices. The setting is breathtaking, with a magnificent view, and the service was truly impeccable from beginning to end. A special thank you to the wonderful staff, who even surprised me with a little bouquet of flowers as we were leaving the hotel. Such a thoughtful gesture made an already unforgettable evening even more special. The only minor downside was that, since the restaurant is surrounded by a beautiful garden full of flowers, there were a few bees flying around. Some guests were understandably a little nervous, but the staff handled the situation immediately by lighting coffee grounds to gently keep the bees away and using a racket when needed. Their attentiveness and professionalism were impressive. Every detail of this place is carefully curated, making it truly exceptional. We can’t wait to come back the next time we’re in the French Riviera. Thank you for turning a peaceful dinner into such a romantic and memorable experience.

Every visit only makes me more eager to discover the next location. It's rare to find a restaurant group that delivers such remarkable consistency across every branch around the world. Each destination has its own unique identity, yet they all reflect the same uncompromising standards of excellence, refined hospitality, exquisite cuisine, and timeless elegance. No matter where I go, the experience is always memorable, making me look forward to the next one with even greater anticipation

Absolutely one of the best dining experiences I’ve ever had. Matsuhisa St. Tropez exceeded every expectation—from the outstanding food and beautiful atmosphere to the exceptional service. A special thank you to the reception team, who were incredibly welcoming, professional, and genuinely helpful from the moment we arrived. They made us feel valued and ensured everything was perfect throughout our visit. Every dish was outstanding, the quality was exceptional, and the overall experience was simply unforgettable. Without a doubt, one of the best restaurants I’ve ever been to. Highly recommended, and I can’t wait to come back!

Always pleasure being in this restaurant. Amazing atmosphere, food, service and experience. There was a DJ that night and the music was very good. The place is extremely beautiful and the hotel also. It is one of the best hotels in the region.

The service was absolutely terrible! The food was awful. The atmosphere was good, but the waiting time for the food was 2 hours, the beverages came after 40 minutes. The waiters were not polite. It was such a chaos… for this price I would say do not come!!!!!!

In a small plaza with a few other restaurants. I ordered online ahead of time and it took longer than estimated but the staff is very nice and it is worth the wait! I got a few rolls and a salad and everything was delicious. The quality is very good as well. They have outdoor seating and limited parking also.

Very easy to order online, food was ready at the right time and the staff were friendly. The food was super, the little details like a branded napkin and soy sauce included made the takeaway feel luxury!

Great sushi on the way back from Pamppelone beach. You should try the Lobster & Foie Gras sushi.

The place has a variety of dishes, thai wok, sushi and others. The kids menu is quite good too. Ideal to have a meal with an Asian beer

Good sushis ans sashimis. A bit over priced but this is Saint Tropez. When you take one set with a drink you reach easily 30 Euros. Thus is why I did not give a fourth stars. You have various choice. This is not a restaurant but a take away with few chairs on parking lot near the main street to Saint Tropez. I will recommend if you want to eat fast and avoid Mc Donalds. It will fill your stomach with good think. You can find better and cheaper around if you have time. If not try pain bagnat.

Insider Tips for Navigating the Saint-Tropez Sushi Scene

Dining out in Saint-Tropez during the high season can be a logistical challenge, especially when you are craving high-end Japanese cuisine. To ensure you have the best possible experience, there are several unwritten rules and local nuances you should understand before making a reservation. From timing your visit to understanding the local pricing structure, a little preparation goes a long way in this glamorous coastal town.

Book Ahead, Especially in July and August

Saint-Tropez is not a town where you can simply walk into a top-tier restaurant at 8 PM and expect a table. The most sought-after sushi spots are often fully booked days or even weeks in advance during the summer. If you have your heart set on a specific restaurant, make a reservation as soon as your travel dates are confirmed. Many venues also offer two seating times, with the later slot often being more relaxed and less rushed.

Consider a Late Lunch

To avoid the intense dinner rush and the notorious traffic jams entering the village, consider booking a sushi lunch instead. Many high-end restaurants offer lunch menus that are significantly more affordable than their dinner counterparts, providing better value for the same quality of fish. A late lunch also allows you to enjoy the natural light and sea views that are often lost in the evening darkness.

Understand the "Tropézien" Markup

Be prepared for prices that are higher than what you might pay in Paris or London. The cost of real estate, the importation of specific Japanese ingredients like real wasabi or specific rice vinegars, and the seasonal nature of the town all contribute to a premium. If a sushi restaurant in the port seems unusually cheap, it is often a red flag regarding the quality and origin of the fish.

Look for Local Fish Specials

While classic salmon and tuna are staples, the best chefs in Saint-Tropez take advantage of the daily catch from the local fish market. Ask your server if there are any "specials" featuring local Mediterranean fish. Eating a nigiri made from a sea bream caught in the bay just hours earlier is an experience you cannot replicate elsewhere and demonstrates the chef’s connection to the region.

Verify the Rice

In Japanese cuisine, the rice (shari) is just as important as the fish. A common failure in Western sushi restaurants is serving rice that is too cold, too hard, or overly vinegared. When evaluating a spot in Saint-Tropez, pay attention to the temperature and texture of the rice. It should be slightly warm or at room temperature and hold together loosely, falling apart gently in the mouth.

Plan Your Transport

Driving into the center of Saint-Tropez during peak season is notoriously difficult. If you are planning to enjoy sake or wine with your meal, arrange for a water taxi or a private driver in advance. Parking at the Port can take hours to find, and the stress of driving can ruin the relaxed, Zen atmosphere of a good sushi dinner.

Ultimately, the perfect sushi experience in Saint-Tropez is about more than just the food; it is about the atmosphere and the moment. Whether you are dining with a view of the yachts in the harbor or in a minimalist dining room that transports you to Tokyo, the combination of French luxury and Japanese precision is a unique cultural fusion.

As the sun sets over the Mediterranean and the lights of the port begin to twinkle, enjoying a plate of expertly crafted sushi becomes a quintessential part of the modern Saint-Tropez experience. Trust the local favorites, be willing to explore beyond the main promenade, and you will discover that this iconic village holds its own as a true destination for Japanese gastronomy.
