Big selection. Good produce. Nice location.
Joseph Lane★★★★★
Clean and spacious. Much larger than appears from the entrance, very well stocked
Crystal Harris★★★★★
It had all the basics. Clean well organized. Some of the workers were very patient and accommodating of me as a tourist who couldn’t understand the language. Surprisingly a handful spoke English and more than you would expect spoke Spanish so that was a big help. I especially like the produce and the fresh food section.
Sof★★★★☆
Pretty good supermarket but often very crowded. Layout a little bit confusing.
Valerian Guillot★★★★☆
Great choice of groceries, but not necessarily the best quality for fruits and veggies. The overall security of the shop and its surroundings isn’t great.

This place, which is within walking distance from our hotel, has free parking. There’s also a halal food spot open until 11:30 PM. Additionally, it’s an area with cheaper gas stations. I recommend it!
michelle Kssili★★★★☆
Its reasonably priced and clean. I spend too much time looking for what I need because they keep moving products around. Gets fustrating when you are in a hurry.
Chester Lee★★★★★
Parking is easy, They just renew it inside, it is much bigger, full of nice things.
Nobby Tu23★★★☆☆
Big supermarket, but weirdly laid out. I couldn't work out if being renovated but it was very spread out. Had everything youd need.
Pauline Davies★★★★★
It was just so lovely to have such a choice of food. People wanting out of Europe just don't know whst they are missing.

This is the second time I’ve run into a creepy man doing racist gestures toward me at the entrance of this store. It’s disgusting.
Rudie Vissenberg★★★☆☆
Relatively large assortment for a little supermarket. Staff at the cash register work hard and try to minimise the queue. Price wise it is a standard Carrefour. Easy to have it so near.
kdb 1900★☆☆☆☆
Terrible staff. We arrived shortly before closing time and instead of just telling us politely that we can't enter anymore the employee shouted at us that he wanted to leave so nobody could enter anymore. Never again!
Megan King★☆☆☆☆
If I could give this place 0 stars I would. The staff is so rude and incompetent there. I try to go there as rarely as possible even though it is the closest grocery store to me, but sometimes you just need butter. The staff disrespect me over the stupidest stuff and since I don't speak French very well I am not able to complain effectively. It makes my blood boil.
Levon Alyanakian (Levon's Travel's)★☆☆☆☆
Slow and short staffed. The self checkout registers were closed but they looked totally functional ?

Sonia Santos★★★★★
The staff helped me to find the items I needed, in English, they are so friendly that, Kofi, somebody who had a coffe in his hand, offered me his, when I asked where is the coffee machine. So happy 😁

I have been here three times. Twice I was harassed by people asking for money. They are quite threatening, not just regular homeless people. Always drunk people outside. Don’t feel safe at all. Will never return. My partner has been harassed on two separate occasions also by strange scammers. It’s as if the store is under siege by criminals.

Ashfaque Khan★☆☆☆☆
Pathetic unhelpful staff. I was billing on the self checkout machine and my bill was € 25.58, and I paid € 25 with my restaurant card but I couldn't pay the rest € 0.58 with my bank card on the machine as it was not accepting a bank card for less than a Euro. The staff over there asked me to move to the billing counter and she said that my payment was not processed for the earlier €25 but in fact it was. Since I don't speak French yet as I am an international employee, they did not even make an effort to check the machine to see if there has been a payment made. And ultimately I had to pay the entire amount again with my bank card. Pathetic behaviour and kinda border lining on cheating your customer. I'll attach photo proofs as soon as my bank statement is available. PS: I have attached the transaction proofs from my bank account and ticket restaurant, thus proving that your store charged me twice for the order, and I have attached the order bill as well. I will share the same over mail with you. It will be great if your employees can learn some basic decency to not treat a foreigner as a cheat wrongly and instead help him.
Helen Lee★☆☆☆☆
I arrived outside this store at 21:54 to be told by the Security Guard it was closed. I pointed out the shop closes at 22:00 but he wouldn't allow me in. I am from England and on holiday. It was a Saturday night and I needed urgent medical supplies which I could have rushed in and purchased in minutes but instead I was left devasted that I wasn't allowed in and nowhere else in Montpellier was open. A very kind French couple who also tried to get in offered to help me but were unable. If a shop says is closes at 22:00 that's when you stop customers entering not at 21:54.
Martin Ha★★★★☆
huge selection of groceries. all clean and tidy. bright intetior. but quite expensive. good for small snacks, but not for weekly shoppings.

Attention, very dangerous place. Never go there!!! I left my eletric scooter just in front of the entrance with a chain during the day and It was broken and stolen while I was shopping. The employee said they could not do anything, they have cameras and do not not even could look at the camera. Just said go to the police. They also have a security guard in front of it. So disappointed with Carrefour and the attention gave to me during this episode!! That was my only vehicle to go to supermarket, carry my stuff and go to university. I have just bought it less than two weeks. No words to describe this feeling and how Carrefour did not care about it, even it happening inside their store! Mercy beaucoup Carrefour!!
Robko Is happy★☆☆☆☆
It appears there may be an issue with the coffee machine regarding change. To ensure you have the necessary funds, it's advisable to prepare exact change beforehand. Alternatively, you could make a small purchase to break a larger bill. This way, you can still enjoy a delicious cup of coffee without any inconvenience. Thank you for your understanding.

Super U et Drive offers a convenient and efficient shopping experience, combining the quality of a traditional supermarket with the ease of online shopping and drive-through pickup. The process is straightforward: customers can browse and order groceries online, selecting from a wide variety of fresh produce, pantry staples, and household essentials. The website is user-friendly, with clear categories and a helpful search feature. You can also see current promotions and customize your shopping list easily. After placing your order, you select a convenient pickup time. At the Drive location, the staff is friendly and quick to assist. They load your groceries directly into your car, ensuring a smooth and hassle-free experience. The products are well-packed, and the quality of fresh items like fruits, vegetables, and meats is excellent. Super U et Drive is perfect for busy individuals or families who value their time without compromising on quality. It’s a service I would highly recommend for its convenience, reliability, and customer-friendly approach.
Wayne Justin★★★★★
Such a great supermarket with well stocked shelves and a nice selection of products that you don't often see. They have a fantastic section with homemade products from local sellers which is really interesting. Their reasonable pricing on everything beats most of their respective competition too. I'm definitely going to start shopping here more often.
Noah von der Forst★☆☆☆☆
I got forced by the staff to open my bag and if I didn‘t do it, they wouldn‘t let me go. The security agent stood in front of me with arms open and stopped me from going out. I felt physically threatened and intimitated by this person which is why I gave in and opened my bag, even though I didn‘t want to. This act represents a „séquestration arbitraire“ and is against the French law. A security agent doesn‘t have the right to hold somebody against their will and must accept a „No“ of a customer. I‘ve already talked to the store manager, however he hasn‘t been understanding either and was very condescending to me. I understand that store policy says that you‘re supposed to show your bag. However, federal law is above store policy which means the staff must not make somebody do something that he doesn‘t want to - only police officers have the right to do so. The security agent turned out to be a nice person and I don‘t hold a grudge against him personally. He only does his job and gets asked by his superiors to do unlawful things. The store manager also forbid me from entering the store again which is a shame since what I did was not even illegal. I admit that at some point I had an emotional outburst (caused by my social anxiety) and threw my sandwich and bottle behind the protection shield and wanted to escape which however cannot be the reason for that since the manager wasn‘t aware of that. The person to blame in this case is the manager of this supermarket who doesn‘t seem to care about federal laws and trains his staff to threaten their customers.
Nina N★★★★★
Super U is by far the best supermarket in France. Their prices are very reasonable, the choice of products is very good, the layout is very well planed. I am on vacation in Montpellier and I am really enjoying shopping here. Compared to the overpriced Casinos and basic choice of items of Lidl I prefer to shop at Super U. Where I currently live, we mainly have Auchan and Carrefour and they are loosing by far to Super U in my personal opinion. I wish we had this store where I currently live.
Jamie★★☆☆☆
The store itself is nice, well equipped with quality selection. Issue is with checkout lady who accuses you of shoplifting and demands to unlawfully search your bags with not even an apology when she finds nothing.

This isnt about the place itself but about one of the security guards that was extremely disrespectful with his language. I told him i had to catch the next tram he said “je m’en fous” and “vous restez avec moi” in a very aggressive and disrespectful tone. All this was to remove an antivol from an item which i didnt know about, he said he wanted to verify my purchases when i made all of them right in front of him.
Kari Q.★★☆☆☆
Convenient on a Sunday when everything else nearby is closed. However, if you have a choice you should avoid. The only staff I saw was the security at the self-check out exit. The store was packed and cramped, and an absolute mess. Baskets, carts, food left stranded everywhere which made the cramped space even worse. Only recommend if desperate.
Tofa Ben★☆☆☆☆
The worst bakery ever 🤮🤮🤮🤢. Don't get anything from them Bad customer service The guy tried to trick me into buying an uncooked, doughy pain au chocolat. To make matters worse, the prices are completely overpriced for such terrible quality. Avoid this place!
Станіслав Жежер★☆☆☆☆
The security treats you like a criminal for no reason and always checks your stuff or asks for receipts when you bkught the item right in front of their eyes. Genuinely don't understand the point of this behaviour
Gislaine Camargo Doo (Mme Camargo)★☆☆☆☆
If you seek peace in both body and mind, it’s best to leave this place. It is filled with negativity. And perhaps… even Montpellier deserves a new name—"Montarabius.”

Tips for Smart Grocery Shopping in Montpellier

Navigating the grocery landscape in a French city involves understanding local habits, seasonal rhythms, and pricing structures. While the supermarkets listed above offer great variety, knowing how to shop efficiently will save you both money and time. Here are essential strategies to help you master the art of buying groceries in Montpellier.

1. Embrace the Markets for Fresh Produce
While supermarkets are convenient, you should not miss the open-air markets that define French food culture. The Marché des Arceaux and Marché du Lez offer fruits, vegetables, and cheeses that often surpass supermarket quality. For the best balance, buy your dry goods and pantry staples at a supermarket, but source your seasonal produce and meat from local vendors.

2. Understand the "Drive" Service
Many hypermarkets on the outskirts of Montpellier, particularly the larger E.Leclerc and Carrefour locations, offer a "Drive" service. This allows you to order your groceries online and pick them up at a designated time without leaving your car. It is a massive time-saver for families and busy professionals looking to avoid navigating crowded aisles.

3. Look for "Fidélité" Cards
Almost every major chain in France offers a loyalty card that translates directly into cashback or discounts on fuel. Signing up is usually free and can be done at the register or via the store’s app. If you shop frequently at a specific chain like Casino or Carrefour, accumulating points on these cards can lead to significant annual savings on your grocery bill.

4. Timing is Everything for Clearance
If you are budget-conscious, pay attention to the "dates limites de consommation" (use-by dates). French supermarkets are very strict about freshness, meaning items like meat, fish, and dairy are heavily discounted on the day they expire. Shopping in the early evening often yields 30% to 50% off stickers on premium proteins and ready-to-eat meals, perfect for freezing.

5. Navigate the Bio (Organic) Sections Wisely
France has a deep appreciation for organic food, and most supermarkets in Montpellier dedicate large sections to "Bio" products. However, these can be pricey. Compare the prices of branded organic items with the store’s generic brand (like Carrefour Bio or Monoprix Green). Often, the generic organic options are significantly cheaper and come from the same production facilities.

6. Check the "Anti-Gaspi" Aisles
In recent years, French law has required supermarkets to donate or sell imperfect produce and short-dated goods rather than throw them away. Look for the "Anti-Gaspi" (anti-waste) sections or baskets usually located near the entrance. You can find dented cans, slightly bruised fruit, and day-old pastries at a fraction of the original cost.

Finding the right supermarket in Montpellier ultimately depends on your specific lifestyle and location. If you live in the Écusson (historic center), you will likely rely on the convenience of city-center Monoprix and Carrefour City stores for daily shopping, while saving larger weekly hauls for trips to the outskirts where parking is easier.

By mixing the efficiency of these modern supermarkets with the authenticity of the local markets, you can enjoy the very best of what this Mediterranean region has to offer. Bon appétit and happy shopping as you explore the culinary treasures of Montpellier.
