Dijon, the historic capital of Burgundy, is a city best appreciated from the ground up—or, in this case, from the sky down. While the cobblestone streets and medieval architecture tell the story of the Dukes of Burgundy, a new generation of venues is offering a different perspective. The city’s elevated dining scene has quietly become a highlight for locals and savvy travelers alike.
Finding a great rooftop spot in Dijon isn’t just about the altitude; it is about the atmosphere. Unlike coastal cities where the sea dominates the view, Dijon offers a panoramic vista of terracotta roofs, Gothic spires, and the rolling vineyards of the Côte d’Or in the distance. These terraces provide a unique vantage point to watch the sunset paint the city in hues of gold and amber.
The culinary culture of Burgundy naturally extends to these high-altitude retreats. You won’t just find generic snacks; instead, expect curated menus featuring local cheeses, escargot, and, of course, exceptional regional wines. Whether you are looking for a quiet morning espresso or a vibrant evening aperitif, the vertical landscape of the city has something to offer.
Because space in the historic center is limited, the best rooftops are often hidden gems, accessible through boutique hotels or tucked away on upper floors of modern buildings. This exclusivity makes finding the perfect terrace feel like a true discovery. It is an experience that combines the region’s famous hospitality with a breath of fresh air.
We have explored the heights of the city to bring you a curated guide to the most impressive terraces. From lush garden settings to sleek, contemporary lounges, these locations offer more than just a drink—they offer a memory. You will find options suitable for romantic dates, casual meetups with friends, and solo relaxation.
To help you navigate the scene, we have compiled a list of the twelve best rooftop cafes and bars in Dijon. Each location has been selected for its unique view, quality of service, and authentic connection to the Burgundian lifestyle.

We visited Pica-Pica for both lunch and dinner, and both experiences were excellent. This brand-new restaurant, which opened in April 2026, has already become one of my favorite spots in Dijon.
The atmosphere is warm and relaxed, the team is genuinely welcoming, attentive, and passionate, and the food speaks for itself. The kitchen is honest and consistent across the board, with fresh ingredients, well-balanced flavors, and dishes prepared with care rather than unnecessary complexity.
The pricing is also very fair for the quality of the experience, making it a place that’s easy to recommend whether you’re stopping by for a quick lunch or enjoying a leisurely dinner.
A fantastic addition to Dijon- on the rooftop in the center - I’ll definitely be back.

We only came for a drink. Good beer and nice mocktail. Service was very friendly and we got a place with Nice view.
Dogs are allowed.
we would come back.

A really nice experience. Food very well presented and very edible. Staff coped well with the multinational group of 11.

Managed to finally get in last night. Stepped into an overcrowded bar then led to a table packed into the outside dining space. No view of the city unless you tiptoe and stand over the large grey borders from that area. Rather pretentious and more about being seen there than a nice place to be.

It’s expensive, did take a margarita (you won’t have salt sadly). The view + service people + atmosphere is nice. But it’s expensive :/

Nikki Bishop★★☆☆☆
The weirdest meal experience I have ever had. Not because the food was experimental (as it didn’t really seem to be )but because they packed away the restaurant around us! They stated lunch service until 2.30 and we arrived before 2 pm but as diners left they literally cleared the tables around us until we were left sitting on the only table in the restaurant! Luckily we only had one course and so could then leave but it was really rude!
John Primmer★★★☆☆
Wanted to try the Sunday Brunch as we were staying in Dijon for a few days. Pretty standard buffet fare, only 'experimental' dish I could find was th sous vide boiled egg. Huge range of hot and cold items. A good family experience. €32 adult, €16 children. Maybe need to try it another time to see what is on the experimental menu.
K B★★★☆☆
The food on the brunch was mostly okay, with some exceptions. Not worth the price though, and did not meet my expectations. Tough and overcooked meat, overcooked vegetables. The cheese board seemed to have a nice selection, but was completely messed up, so I have no idea of which cheeses I ate.
And some kind of "free entertainment" was going on throughout the brunch - a false singing, live cover band with terrible music taste at way to high volume. I wouldn't come back!
George Kassar★★★★★
Excellent service and super friendly waiters. Very tasty food. Surprisingly very budget friendly. Highly recommended !

Like a horrible cafeteria - certainly not worth the time or money going there - 2 hot main courses in offer today dried out and cold, small choice of entrees and small choice of desserts the only redeeming thing was the cheese platter and that was scarce there is much more to offer in this village of even in the town central

wow!!! 💙 we were amazed at the ingredients, arrangement and price. Not dog friendly. But the service and food was incredible for breakfast or brunch. I dont say this often but I highly recommend this place. Casual but pleasant atmosphere within a health center. So you can also watch the steam rise as you eat the art

Just average food, not super well balanced flavor-wise. The toasts are overhyped in my opinion; mint tea was delicious though. Not great service as they got wrong two of the dishes within my group….

What a marvelous surprise. The toasts are one of kind and very refined. The chef plays with ingredients, flavours, and colors. Ingredients are very fresh. Taste is wonderful. Thank you Chef Dawood.

It was the best brunch we had in Dijon. Everything was very delicious. Nice smiling waitress who helped us and brought a chair for our baby was amazing. If I come to Dijon again, I will visit again and I will recommend this place for breakfast to those who visit Dijon.

Great position and plenty of tables outside (there are also tables opposite the cafe). Fast, efficient friendly service. Get here before 2:15pm if you want lunch on a Saturday as kitchen closes at 2:30pm and kitchen closes at 2pm week days. Around 3:30pm the kitchen will then start serving crepes and ice cream. Drinks served all day. Enjoy!

I don’t understand how this restaurant is highly rated. We sat for half an hour before our order was taken. Food came fast but not hot, not tasty. We had ordered a bottle of wine and somehow that came out after our food. Poor service and food, only salvaged by good atmosphere.

I had the best meal in my 10-day trip to France in this restaurant. The staff is very pleasant and will make you feel welcome and the food is really superb. Excellent wine selection and really reasonable prices. The atmosphere is also great, feeling modern but with many historic details. Highly recommended in Dijon!

We just happen to pass by when arriving to our hotel. What a pleasant surprise! Even though it was already past 22h30 they still offered food. La Causerie des Mondes is a wonderful café/restaurant offering excellent coffee as well as tea and chocolate. They have a great bakery with a delicious assortment of sweet treats, and their menu had a small but interesting selection of meals, as well. Its location is just a few minutes’ walk from the palace but it's away from the jammed streets that plague most of the central area during the tourist season. Consequently, its atmosphere is relaxed and comfortable, both in their outside seating area as well as a charming interior space.

This is a wonderful restaurant serving very fresh food and wonderful desserts. We enjoyed a perfect lunch outside with excellent service. When you see a chalkboard menu, stop and try it.

Came here at a recommendation from another bar and it’s amazing. The cocktails are fantastic and the bartender/mixologist is great. I sat at the bar just to watch them work. She was great and made me anything I asked for. The best cocktail I’ve had in Dijon for sure. A must visit.

Cozy athmosphere in a nicely decorated bar. Service was very good and fast. The cocktails are good with some interesting inventive versions of well-known cocktails - but they're not mind-blowing. But definitely decent, good drinks. Would go again.

We didn't try the house cocktails, but the team made beautiful negroni and old fashioned-style drinks for us with French spirits that were delicious. Small plates were also very good, but especially the époisse emulsion served with roasted potatoes. Very welcoming service and cozy atmosphere.

One of my personal top 10 cocktail bars world wide.
Super inventive drink menu that is perfectly executed. Menu has both classics done their way and some novel inventions. All the drinks we had were perfectly crafted and balanced.
The vibe is excellent, the bar has super cozy areas and even some set apart rooms.

First time in Dijon and went to Monsieur Motarde after hearing about it. The place was fabulous and the wine was great. The people were polite. However when asked for the bill, we were asked to go to the counter to pay. When I'm paying 12€ for a glass of wine, I want my bill to come to the table. Moreover the guy asked me if I wanted to add 10% tips, and it was already on the screen. I think that's a very poor judgement given there was no service other than serving the wine. If the bill was brought to the table I would have think differently.
Sarah G★★★★★
Very beautiful and cozy atmosphere in an old building nicely renovated and decorated.
Extensive list of cocktails, wines, whiskies..
Friendly service.
Isabel Diaz★★★★★
I had the loveliest time at Monsieur Moutarde in Dijon! I sat out in their gorgeous garden – such a beautiful and relaxing setting, the perfect spot to unwind. I was so impressed with their creative mocktail menu; it’s fantastic to see such interesting non-alcoholic options. I tried two and both were absolutely delicious and refreshing.
The snacks were equally wonderful – I especially enjoyed the gyoza (Raviolis Japonais aux légumes et au poulet, Duo de sauces Soja, Oignons frits, Coriandre) which were bursting with flavour and perfectly paired with the dipping sauces.
The staff were warm, attentive, and the service was impeccable from start to finish. Monsieur Moutarde is truly a gem in Dijon – I can’t wait to return! 🌿🍹🥟

A great place to grab a drink in Dijon. If you’re visiting, this should be a definite stop on your list. The atmosphere is really amazing from chic indoor seating areas to the outdoor patio that makes you feel relaxed just sitting there. The cocktails are great too - definitely try one of their signature drinks, it just adds to the experience.

We had great breakfast and lunch experience in this real french ambience café. Atmosphere is vibrant, food is very tasty, service is very polite and professional. Great choice of traditional dishes. We even got a free after lunch drink, and it was delicious. 😋

We had a late lunch before an afternoon appointment. Convenient location in the pedestrian downtown area, one block away from the historic Les Halles (G. Eiffel). While the restaurant was busy we were seated almost immediately. Chose a table outside, easily accessible by wheelchair (only one step). Friendly staff attended to us quickly and took our orders. Typical French cuisine and comfort food. Very reasonable prices. Only a few minutes later our dishes were served. We had a Croque Monsieur, Beef Tartare, and a Carpaccio. All served with a side of green salad and French fries.
SEONG YEON LEE★★★★★
Delicious and very reasonably priced. They were kind to us even though we dont speak french well. It looked like a local favorite. I regret not having enough time to try the dessert because we were in a hurry. Even though they seemed very busy, they didn't turn us away. Instead, they kindly asked us to wait at the bar with drink and later showed us to table. I found them friendly.
Philippe Kouache★☆☆☆☆
Don't waste your time and money at this restaurant. It’s a disgrace to Dijon—the gastronomic capital—and a total tourist trap! The beef wasn't even Charolais (just generic EU origin); out of a 300g portion, half was gristle and fat. The sauce was tasteless, and the salad had black leaves. It was truly shameful—and the worst part was the restrooms 😠. Absolutely disgusting. Honestly, give this place a miss. The only saving grace was the service
Alexey Subach★★★★☆
This was one of the few places that were open a bit later than the typical lunch time. The food was descent. By the time we arrived they had run out of all the lunch offerings like steaks and we had to choose from a small set of options. The steak tartare was tasty but it tasted like salad and I could not taste any meat there because the meat was minced too finely and there was too much mayo inside. The carpaccio was accompanied by hard cheese and sundried tomatoes and the meat was also barely distinguishable. The meat was sliced very well in thin pieces though. The dishes came with sides (fries and salad) and those were good. There was a staff member who spoke French and the staff was friendly overall
Tips for Enjoying Dijon’s Rooftop Scene
A visit to a rooftop terrace requires a bit of local knowledge to maximize the experience. The weather, timing, and local customs can significantly impact your enjoyment. By planning ahead, you can ensure you get the best seat in the house and experience the city like a true local.
Book Ahead for Golden Hour: Sunset is the most coveted time on any terrace. Dijon is no exception, as the view of the city glowing in the evening light is spectacular. Most popular spots have limited outdoor seating, so calling ahead to reserve a table for the early evening is highly recommended, especially on weekends.
Understand the Aperitif Culture: In France, the pre-dinner drink, or apéritif, is a sacred ritual. Rooftops are the perfect place to participate. Order a local Kir (white wine with crème de cassis, invented in Dijon) or a glass of Crémant de Bourgogne. Service often slows down as the terrace fills up, so embrace the relaxed pace rather than rushing.
Check the Weather and Dress Accordingly: Even on a warm day, rooftops in Dijon can catch a breeze, making the temperature feel cooler than at street level. It is wise to bring a light jacket or scarf, particularly if you plan to stay after the sun goes down. Conversely, check for shade availability if you are visiting during the peak afternoon heat.
Look Beyond the Menu: While the drinks are important, the real value of a rooftop in Dijon is the geography. Ask the staff to point out landmarks such as the Palace of the Dukes or the Cathedral of Saint Benignus. Many terraces offer a direct view of the "Toison d’Or" architectural details you simply cannot see from the street.
Explore Different Times of Day: A rooftop café in the morning offers a completely different vibe than at night. Consider visiting a terrace for a mid-morning coffee when the city is waking up and the crowds are thin. Alternatively, a late-night digestif allows you to see the city’s monuments illuminated against the dark sky.
The rooftop café scene in Dijon is more than just a trend; it is a reflection of the city’s ability to blend history with modern leisure. It offers a pause from the rigorous museum tours and wine tastings, allowing you to simply sit and absorb the atmosphere. The perspective from above gives you a true sense of the city’s layout and its relationship with the surrounding vineyards.
Whether you are a first-time visitor or a long-time resident, taking the time to elevate your experience is always worthwhile. As the sun dips behind the hills of Burgundy and the lights begin to twinkle below, you will understand why these terraces have become an essential part of the Dijon experience.
