12 Best Restaurants Near Museo Reina Sofía

Located in Madrid’s vibrant Atocha district, the Museo Reina Sofía is one of Spain’s most important cultural landmarks. Housing Picasso’s monumental Guernica alongside works by Dalí and Miró, it draws art lovers from across the globe. But after hours of walking through 20th-century masterpieces, visitors inevitably face a pressing question: where should I eat?

The neighborhood surrounding the museum—spanning the edges of Lavapiés, Huertas, and Atocha—is a dynamic culinary crossroads. Here, traditional Madrid taverns sit shoulder-to-shoulder with contemporary bistros, ethnic eateries, and market-driven tapas bars. The diversity reflects the area’s dual identity as both a historic working-class barrio and a hub for international tourism.

Because the museum sits near the Atocha train station, the surrounding streets see heavy foot traffic from commuters, travelers, and locals alike. This means the restaurant scene is highly competitive, and quality rises to the top. You can find everything from a quick €3 caña and tapa to a multi-course tasting menu within a ten-minute walk of the museum’s glass elevators.

However, not every restaurant near a major tourist attraction is worth your time or money. Some rely on foot traffic rather than return customers, serving overpriced paella and lackluster jamón to unsuspecting visitors. Knowing where the locals eat—and which kitchens treat ingredients with respect—makes all the difference.

That’s why we’ve curated this list based on firsthand visits, conversations with Madrid food writers, and consistent feedback from neighborhood regulars. We prioritized places that offer genuine hospitality, fair pricing, and a true sense of place. Whether you have 30 minutes between gallery visits or an entire evening to linger, you’ll find an option that fits.

For the best experience, remember that Spanish dining hours differ from much of Europe. Lunch is typically served from 1:30 PM to 4:00 PM, while dinner rarely starts before 8:30 PM. Many kitchens close between 4:00 PM and 8:00 PM, so plan your museum visit accordingly.

Below, you’ll find our selections organized by style and occasion. Each recommendation is located within a 15-minute walk of the Reina Sofía’s main entrance, with several just steps from the museum doors.

Saez Munoz (review prior to mine) said it all. Food was tasty, not particularly special nor memorable, service was lacking in engagement, Atmosphere = you should go. Service wasn’t bad, but we expect excitement about recommendations and an acknowledging glance whenever they pass. We could feel something lacking, even without any issues. A bit underwhelming. Especially for the price.

Overall a good experience but it lacked excellence because of a couple of minor issues which for the reputation the restaurant has and it’s on the Michelin Guide should not have happened. The welcome was warm and the table was perfect. We ordered our starters and one was the croquettes. Unfortunately these were simply placed on the table in a bowl with no attempt made at decoration etc, felt like we were in a normal Tapas bar rather than a restaurant, they were also served whilst our drinks were being poured. The other starter was presented well though cutlery was also present on the plate despite the table setting. The main course we both chose the sirloin and this dish tasted very good but needed some colour on the plate. The coffee ordered with dessert was missing though we were not charged. Our expectation was high and these minor points bring our rating down which is disappointing so hopefully the team can work with this feedback as we would not hesitate to recommend the restaurant. Also being a fan of history the staff did not make any attempt to offer a tour of the restaurant which I think would appeal to a lot of customers

Bodega de los Secretos is one of the most unique dining experiences in Madrid. From the moment you walk in, it feels like you've stepped into an underground castle, with stunning stone archways and historic vaulted chambers creating an unforgettable atmosphere. The ambiance alone makes this restaurant worth visiting. The staff was friendly, attentive, and made us feel welcome throughout the entire evening. The wine selection was excellent, perfectly complementing an outstanding meal. Every dish was beautifully prepared and absolutely spectacular. If you're looking for a memorable restaurant that combines incredible food, great wine, exceptional service, and a truly one-of-a-kind setting, Bodega de los Secretos is a must-visit in Madrid.

Everything we ate here was absolutely amazing. Would highly recommend the duck confit! My husband and I would certainly come back when in Madrid. Alexis, our server, was also a star. He was so helpful in giving us recommendations and providing excellent service!!
Sasa Radenkovic★★★★★
What a place! I booked it months ago for me and my wife, and it was amazing! We had really nice place, the girls were so nice to talk to, the speak english really well. We had some croquetes with Iberico ham and tomato burrata for appetisers, and got some homemade bread with vegetable sauce. I was really amazed because bread is something important in our country, it was really nice and crunchy. For main dish she took rice with sea food, and I had grilled pyrenees entrecote and potatoes. The meat was so soft, so juicy, the flavours were amazing! The seafood risotto was also really good according to my wife, fresh, delitious! We had some vine and there was no space for desert. The price was just little over 100 euros which is more than fair considering the amount of food we had and the place we went to. We will be returning to Bodega 100%!

We absolutely loved La Malontina! It was, without a doubt, our favorite restaurant in Madrid and the best meal we had during our entire visit. Everything was exceptional. From the delicious, authentic food to the warm and welcoming atmosphere. The restaurant is cozy, beautiful, and full of charm, making you feel like you’re experiencing the real Madrid. The service was outstanding. Roberto took wonderful care of us, and all of the ladies on the service team were incredibly kind, friendly, attentive, and genuinely happy to help. Their hospitality made our lunch even more memorable. Thank you for such a wonderful experience. We will definitely recommend La Malontina to anyone visiting Madrid, and we can’t wait to come back on our next trip! Muchas Gracias!

Our best meal in Spain let alone Madrid. We’d eaten here for years ago and remembered it as we entered. Only 8 tables, can seat no more than 20 so you need a reservation. They brought amazing bread with roasted peppers to start. We had the Galician clams special in green sauce that was superb redolent with garlic and herbs. Then the whole monkfish baked simply with oil salt and herbs with potatoes. Dessert was a chocolate cookie, think brownie, with salted caramel gelato washed down with espresso. The white wine was their recommendation from Galicia and was fantastic. Could not recommend this place more. And listen to the mailers recommendations. We didn’t have it but the pasta with prawn looked amazing also.
KS Chak★★★★★
After being turned away yesterday because they were full, we made sure to have a reservation today - and it was worth it! La Malontina is a very intimate, small space, so booking is essential. The food was outstanding and beautifully presented. High-quality ingredients and a cozy atmosphere. Definitely one of our highlight of our trip!
Marie Yang★★★★☆
The kindest server ever - they saw that I didn’t enjoy the leek and took it off the check without me even asking for it. The rest of seafood I ordered are all super fresh and amazing - highly recommend the clams and scallops.
Albert Ka Shing LAI★★★★★
We stumbled upon this amazing local Spanish restaurant with a hint of Asian fusion. We ordered the octopus stew and seared scallops, which were absolutely delicious and flavourful. My husband had the leeks and monkfish, both fresh and tasty. The attentive service and fantastic recommendations for our dishes made the experience even better. For desserts, the carrot cake is a must try. Highly recommend trying it if you’re in Madrid, and it is good value for money as we did have 3 glasses of wine as well. Points to note, better book a table in advance as it is a cozy restaurant with around 20 seats only.

Amazing experience! The cocktails were absolutely incredible, the food was delicious, and the whole atmosphere was unforgettable. A special thanks to Moises, who took such great care of us and made our evening even more enjoyable. Everything was perfect we had an amazing time and would definitely come back!

Great food, fun atmosphere, and a really unique place. We tried the Crazy Tasting Menu and everything we had was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. The cocktails were also excellent and served in very creative glasses. The décor and overall vibe make the experience different from a typical restaurant, and the staff were friendly and attentive throughout the evening. The only small downside is that the tables are quite close to each other, so it can feel a bit crowded when the restaurant is full. Other than that, we had a fantastic time and would definitely come back. Highly recommended if you’re visiting Madrid!

What a fun place! We were at their location across the street, called Chic. We wanted something different and this checked all the boxes. We had to order everything at the same time, but food and drinks came out quickly. Ask about portion sizes if you aren't sure - the bao buns are ordered by each bun, not i.e. a plate of 3 & the risotto was too large to eat by yourself. All of the drinks were tasty & they brought us a free shot at the end! We would visit again!
Brant Brown★★★★★
Rosi La Loca is a wonderfully ridiculous stop in Madrid, and I mean that as a compliment. This is not the place for a quiet, candlelit dinner where you whisper about life goals. It is bright, loud, colorful, creative, and committed to the bit. The energy is the main event. The food and sangria were good, but what you really remember is the room, the plating, the snakes holding drinks, the neon bathroom situation, and the general feeling that someone gave a design team sugar and no adult supervision. The sangria was excellent, and the ham croquettes were the standout. Truly A+. Like lay-in-bed-later-thinking-about-them good. Service was also fun and friendly, which matters in a place this playful. It could easily become gimmicky and annoying, but it didn’t. The staff seemed to understand the assignment. A couple of practical notes: the QR menu is terrible, so bring patience or someone at the table who enjoys fighting technology before dinner. Seating can also be a little awkward, depending on where they put you. I’d reserve ahead, go in expecting more “colorful outing” than traditional fine dining, and not make this your big romantic Madrid dinner unless your version of romance includes pink lighting and cocktail snakes. Overall, I loved it. I’d score it a 4.5 that gets rounded up to a friendly 5. It is not quite a 5 in the traditional restaurant sense, but it absolutely delivers on what it is trying to be: fun, memorable, creative, and a little nuts in the best way.

My first dinner in Madrid and it was a great experience. Excellent food, beautiful atmosphere, and professional service. I arrived late due to a navigation issue, but the staff handled it gracefully and still welcomed me warmly. They also carefully accommodated my dietary restrictions and prepared a non-alcoholic celebratory shot for me. Bravas Locas and Burrata Alocada were delicious. Great value for the quality of the experience.

We went here for dinner. We were greated kindly and got a table without reserving. We chose four dishes because we were quite hungry. The patatas bravas were amazing, the patatoes were cooked to perfection, as were the calamares. We had the house special flatbread pizza and the chorizo on that was so so good, mouth watering good. Then we had the beef ribs with the same amazing patatoes, the meat had quite a lot of fat and some tougher pieces, but aside from that the taste was great. Overall great experience, the owner was also very nice and even made the effort to learn some english to communicate with us. Our server Alejandro spoke english very well and it was easy to communicate.
Felix★★★★★
A great place to eat with generous portions. Many dishes are big enough to share and the prices are actually comparatively low. The service was great and the atmosphere was nice as well. The food was quite salty but that is easily made up for by the generous portions for such a low price!

I love this place! I have been to Madrid twice in a month’s time and I was so happy to find this restaurant again. Of course I went back in and ate their delicious food. Their service is kind and friendly. I love the mushroom croquettes and the chicken and ham ones are good too. The charcuterie board is perfect, we actually couldn’t finish eating all the food. Sorry but I ate their delicious other croquettes before taking the photo! Yum!

An incredible dinner experience!! Thank you so much to everyone at El Secreto for a great dinner, welcoming hospitality, I felt like I was talking with friends. Definitely recommend and will definitely come back 🙂

Found this by accident, luckily. 😀 Extremely nice location, stylish and cosy. Food is classical Spanish cuisine with some new crossover elements. Really recommend it, definitely on my bucket list next time I will be in Madrid. 👍

We had Catalina as our server and our experience was amazing! She was so knowledgeable about the menu and just a good server overall. The food was also amazing, we got 2 different croquettes, the bao buns, and the steak and it was all delicious. Highly recommend this spot!

The location is really nice and the servers are friendly. The fish was not good. The burger and pork cheeks were good though. The bacalao with beets was really bad. The fish had no seasoning at all, not even salt. The beet puree was a strange pudding texture. The fact that two of us didn’t finish our food should have told them it wasn’t good. Also, we ordered the tartar (mango and avocados) but instead we received the Russian salad. It was good though.
Scott Colson★★★★★
We stopped here for tapas after our tour of the Palace, based on the reviews. Excellent food, good service, and we were seated looking out the window, so we could watch people going by. I highly recommend this location. Food is great! Menu is available via QR code and in five different languages. Staff easily spoke Spanish and English with us
Cοnstantinos Chronakis★★★★★
Delicious food! I ordered the artichokes with jamon and the pork cheek stew. Both of them were exceptional. The stew had a very hearty and homemade feeling. The portions were quite large, so they can definitely be shared between 2. For those 2+ a bottle of water and bread I paid 43€ (no tip included), but as I said the portions are large enough to share. I visited solo, so it was easy to find a table, but I wouldn't suggest going at peak hours without a reservation if you have a group of 2+. The staff speaks English and the dark haired waitress with the glasses was very polite and welcoming.
Keila Sierra★★★★★
Gloria Bendita was the first restaurant we chose as we touched down in Madrid. We were looking for a place that we could sit outside, enjoy a nice warm welcoming atmosphere, and have some phenomenal traditional Spanish food. They exceeded our expectations with all of the above. What made it even more special was our waitress, Rocio. She was welcoming, very friendly and accommodating. If you’re looking for a place that has great steak, seafood, and sangria, this is your place.

Very tasty, fresh dishes. Cute cat on the coffee was an extra nice touch. The food sizes were good value for money too. Was pleasing to see a fully accessible (and clean) gender neutral toilet too. Mind you, I don't think any of the inside seating is wheelchair friendly, but outside is. We would happily come back again. Thank you!

Fantastic brunch spot! Fresh, high-quality ingredients, excellent specialty coffee, and beautifully presented dishes. Friendly service, a great atmosphere, and outstanding value. One of the best breakfast and brunch experiences in Madrid. Highly recommended! What a breakfast in Madrid!

This spot is amazing! If you’re looking for whole fruits, whole vegetables, and really great fresh squeezed juices come here! Everyone is friendly & the service is quick. Every single thing I tried was delicious. Gluten-free options bread, crêpes, and pancakes, and absolutely delicious coffee and tea. I tried something every single day I was in Madrid because I loved it so much.!!

Had brunch here recently. Overall, it was alright and the atmosphere was nice, but I was a bit disappointed with the cinnamon roll as it didn’t taste fresh. The rest was okay, but I expected better, especially for the pastries.
Magdalena Jamroziak★★★★★
A small, cozy spot with healthy and delicious food—perfect for lunch or a mid-morning bite. We had to wait a bit for a table, but it was definitely worth it. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, and the food feels fresh and thoughtfully prepared. A great place to relax and enjoy something wholesome.

A very cozy place with a warm and pleasant atmosphere. We were welcomed with a smile and served quickly. It was also lovely that they had candles available, and the pastry chef beautifully decorated the dessert at my request. We even all sang “Happy Birthday” together for my husband, which made the moment truly special. A wonderful place - I highly recommend it. The presentation of the dishes might differ slightly from the photos on Instagram, but they are still absolutely delicious.

While searching for a place to have authentic paella near our hotel, we stumbled upon Taberna Restaurante El Típico Madrid, and it was easily the best culinary find of our trip. The food here is outstanding—truly a level above other options in the area. We started with the house sangria, which was excellent and perfectly balanced. For the meal, the seafood paella was the star, but everything we ordered was top-tier: the garlic shrimp was sizzling and flavorful, the grilled octopus was tender, and the fried eggplant with honey was a delicious surprise. We even tried the pork ribs, which were fall-off-the-bone tender. What really made the evening special was the staff. Both the waiter and waitress were incredibly friendly, attentive, and made us feel like locals. We truly hit the jackpot with this one. If you are in Madrid, do not miss this gem!
Sh.k★★★★★
In total: very nice place and very good service. We had steak. They should ask how the costumers want their steak. A vegetable dish, which needed to be cooked 3/4 minutes longer. However it was delicious. We didn’t have much time so we ate it. And crispy pork ribs, Torreznos. Really Fantastic. We loved it. Mojito: less ice please
Artur Pliachenko★★★★★
We loved the experience here! Everything was delicious and the atmosphere in general was great. I loved the Roquefort Tenderloin which came with fries – the sauce on the meat was so good mmmmm… the portions are not big, so if you’re very hungry you’re probably need starters or another main dish. Definitely recommend.
Damian Górecki★★★★★
Absolutely the best experience. Very close to the city center, but on a side street where it’s quiet and cozy. The food - paella and the meats were top of the top. Everything was prepared perfectly. And the white wine was delicious. This is exactly what I look for in restaurants when I’m on vacation. The service is the best. Everyone is friendly and helpful. Thank you so much again for your help during our “little” heart incident, especially to Gustavo, he did everything he could to help. You are all the best and I will definitely be back someday.

Really great, best part may have been the appetizer I didn't have a pic but it's a platter with guac, hummus some other stuff. Really damn good, food was solid. They had a dj good house music. It was early and not many people there, but both my wife and I were pleasantly surprised. Also the paloma drink were fire, if I wasn't so exhausted from museums I would have stayed and drank a few more.

Pretty atmosphere, excellent service and delicious food. My wife had the Caesar's Salad which was huge and very delicious. I ordered the fried cod bites which were tender, moist, and perfectly seasoned. A great choice either prior to or after a visit to the museum.

The place itself is quite amazing. Large outdoor and indoor space with striking features. The food was very slow to arrive. The pasta was cold and did not have enough pesto. In addition the staff has perhaps forgotten how one smiles.

After spending time in front of Picasso’s Guernica, my brain cells felt thoroughly exhausted and I needed to recharge before continuing my visit to the Reina Sofía Museum. I found the terrace of Nubel on the lower level of the museum and, without expecting much, ordered a couple of dishes whose descriptions sounded tempting. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food in a place that could easily have been overpriced and mediocre—but wasn’t. A delicious gazpacho was the perfect start, followed by a beautifully presented fish tartare with delicate, well-balanced flavors. Nubel gave me exactly the energy boost I needed to continue exploring the museum and fully appreciate the works of Spain’s other great artists.
Madeleine Avanzado★★★★★
The morning crowd was a bit much for me and my daughter that day so we decided to take a break and grab an early (for Spain) bite around noon. The restaurant area was quiet and comfortable with whimsical menus and food presentation. Our server was very attentive and helpful to point out when we were overordering. Servings were very generous and definitely for sharing. Food tasted great. We got back to the museum to vastly reduced crowds.

Great restaurant with a bar area at the front and tables at the back. The tables for 2 are tiny and you are very close to the next table, we were lucky in that both neighbouring tables were finishing up as we arrived. Service was very efficient. Food was delicious. We had a bottle of wine (16.50),baby squid with salad, tortilla and a beef dish. The squid was so good we ordered a second portion. The bill came to a reasonable 42.40

We had a wonderful time at Taberna El Sur. The service was amazing as was the food. It was very busy, despite being fairly early on a Monday evening, and the crowd looked to be made up of more locals than tourists, which is always a good sign. We had the iberico plate, moussaka, pork cheeks, octopus and garlic prawns. The only slight miss was that the prawns had a bit of grit in them, though the flavor was great. We tried a number of Spanish wines, each better than the last. Highly recommend.

we had a fantastic experience dining here! first of all, the restaurant is small but cozy and clean, with the staff welcoming us in as soon as we stepped through the door. the menu is english-friendly, so it was easy for us to order traditional spanish food. my favourite was the Chipirones a la plancha, the squid 🦑was seasoned well and cooked to perfection, happiness in every bite! the mayo paired really well with it, as well as the fresh salad. it was also nice to try the ham/mushroom croquetas and Tortilla de Patatas 🥔. the sweet and refreshing sangria was also the perfect drink alongside the dishes on a hot day. the host also gave us complimentary bailey shots after our meal, which was so nice 🫶 really recommend this place if you're looking to try some traditional, authentic spanish food and tapas!!! 💪🍷

We dined here as a group of three and had a great experience. The food was really delicious, and the prices were very reasonable for the quality. The staff were also very friendly and welcoming, which made our meal even more enjoyable. Definitely a great place to enjoy Spanish food in Madrid. Highly recommended!
Bob Excell★★★★★
This was not our first visit to this restaurant. We have been a number of times before, but I decided it was time for an update. This little bar is not a super deluxe dinning establishment, it is a wonderful Taberna with a good range of drinks including vermont on tap, typical of so many bars in Madrid. The wine list is small with a reasonable selection of good priced wines. A wonderful selection of starter and main dishes to enjoy. Don't over order there isn't the space on your table, service is good even when very busy. Tables are small and the stalls for table eating are smaller than most, but don't let this deter you, there is a bench seat against the wall running both sides of the entire length of the dinning area. It always appears to be busy so it can feel a little cramped, but that all adds to the atmosphere. During our meal we spoke to our neigbouring tables on one side a couple from Canada who first visited with their son and this was their second visit. On another table sat 4 young students they dine here regularly. Considering this the age ranges from young 20's , a couple in their 50's and us two young at hart retired 69 & 73 year oldies. I hope this all helps explain the warm welcome and wonderful atmosphere that makes this restaurant our favouite when visiting Madrid and I do suggest you give it a try, but remember it is a bar not a 5star restaurant, but excellent value for money Our bill may not be typical of others but we did go a little overboard with 4 starters between us, 2 mains and a shared desert not to mentioning bottles of wine, water, beer, liquors and coffees. Our total spend does include our tip for the great service.

This was the best falafel I’ve ever had! It was so fresh, it was crunchy but moist and so delicious! I didn’t even need the tahini sauce because I didn’t want to take away from the flavor it already was giving me! The sauce was very good but I just didn’t need it! The service was excellent! I am a solo traveler and I didn’t have a reservation but they got me a seat at the very small bar and accommodated me perfectly! Danielle was the bartender and server who was very busy but never made me feel like he didn’t have time for my questions and was very attentive 🙂 I also got the Arabic cheese with roasted peppers - very delicious - the cheese was a soft cheese - tangy and sharp, creamy and salty! I’m so glad I stopped in! Another amazing dining experience in Madrid!

Cozy chic place with possibly the best hummus & pita I’ve ever had. Seriously - it’s smooth & gorgeous. I enjoyed the trio dips - hummus, babaganoush, labneh. Fresh details like pomegranate seeds & sumac, pecans & fresh mint. Divine. The falafel pita was also delicious and expertly crafted together, so every bite had tahini. The drinks are just as tasty & complement the food perfectly. It is super small, so make a reservation. The only knock I have against it is the bar seating is uncomfortable.

Incredible restaurant in Madrid. We were handed water on arrival, very nice touch. We had the labneh cream and the falafel pita. The pita was incredible tasty and very well filled. The labneh cream was the perfect starter to an amazing lunch. For desert we had the chocolate mousse and yes, like that say on the menu “make room for dessert, it’s worth it”. Incredible experience, please continue with the work.

Incredible experience!!! Food was 10/10. The coli crunch was amazing, and so was the chorizo omg. Such a great experience, and would definitely need to return! Service was great too

So far it is the best restaurant with middle east cuisine we’ve been in. We don’t have photo of the food because everything was so delicious and was eaten right away😍 Splendid! 💯 % recommended❤️‍🔥

This café has that cute, cozy, local vibe. Everything was absolutely delicious, and the staff were very kind and friendly. It has a warm, simple, "homey" atmosphere! Natural pear and lemon juice, a delicacy. We served Tortilla de patatas hecha con huevos amperos, pan con tomate y ensaladita.❤️

This is a charming cute cafe with lovely food, nice ambience, good value for money & a very friendly host. The potato leek cold soup and quinoa salad is amazing, and the fish pie was simply delish. To pair that with sangria / tinto de verano tops it all.

Pristine service from Fernando, followed by the best lentil soup I’ve had in my life! The most unique thing here is the revolving menu on a daily basis. This component made me feel like I was 8 years old again at my Abuela’s house. Everything we ordered was simply majestic and this is a place that deserves much more accolades.

We went to Matilda after reading the reviews and will say that this place does surprise you . The food quality , taste and preparation is top class. We managed to get a table as we went in early but I can tell you that it is frequented by locals and tourists alike . We had avocado toast and a Spanish omelette and both were top class. Will definitely recommend to people visiting that area.

What a nice gem to find. It is a small cozy place. The waiter was wounderful a spoke very well English and French. He was paying attention to every little detail to make sure we had an extraordinary experience (which we had). We started with salad and gazpacho. I normally am not crazy about gazpacho but this one had watermelon in it, which intrigued me. What a great discovery!!! It was absolutely delicious and refreshing. We also had meat balls in tomato sauce and ham. Food & service were extraordinary. Very well priced and potions are generous. Best sangria I ever had. We were too full for desserts that looked fabulous on other tables. A must go place in Madrid

Excellent dining experience at La Cabaña Argentina. We enjoyed an outstanding meal, with perfectly cooked meats, high-quality ingredients, and authentic flavors that truly capture the essence of Argentina. Everything we ordered was delicious, and the portions were generous. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, making it a great place to enjoy time with family and friends. The service was attentive, friendly, and professional, which made the experience even more enjoyable. We highly recommend La Cabaña Argentina to anyone looking for authentic Argentine cuisine and a memorable dining experience. We will definitely be back!

Really nice steak house. We’re from Canada and have been to lots of really high end steak houses and this is overall a very good steak restaurant. The food: we got the ribs and ribeye, both were delicious. The chimichurri / oil sauce that comes on each table is also extremely good. We asked for medium for the ribeye but it came rare (this seems to be a very common issue at this restaurant) - we didn’t mind rare but would’ve preferred medium or even medium-rare. The sauteed veg was deliciously seasoned and generously portioned. Bread service with olives and butter was also good (the bread was warm and fresh). The octopus was one of the highlights of this restaurants and one of the best we’ve had on our multiple trips to Spain. We also loved our cocktails and they have some unique ones that you should try. Service: wonderful and friendly service, attentive, the food and drinks came fast. Cost: it’s quite expensive even for a big city like Madrid. However, it’s definitely a bit of an upscale dining experience, and a centrally located restaurant

We had reservations for 10pm and they were able to accommodate us half hour earlier. Service was top notch. Food was just as good. Burrata appy was awesome. 500g ribeye and fries were outstanding Their cheesecake with dulce de leche ice cream not your usual beyond delicious!!

Very nice place. Not a tourist trap. We went twice on our stay in Madrid. One of the best Tenderloin and the second time Rib Eye i ever had, if not the best. The Service is great, friendly and helpfull waiters. The athmophere is like a real Argentinian Cabana. Portions were big. We didnt manage a desert after we had a starter and main course. The second time we skipped the starter, for that we had desert. A little on the pricy side, we paid 75 per petson inclusive wine and an apero. But worth every cent. We will be back when in madrid.

I had an absolutely amazing meal at this Argentinian steakhouse! Everything we ordered was fantastic, starting with a wonderfully fresh salad. The charcoal octopus, artichoke and the Provoleta cheese were to die for. But the absolute highlight was the ribeye—it was pure thunder! Add in the top-notch service, and it was a perfect dining experience. I highly recommend checking this place out.

Tips for Dining Near Museo Reina Sofía

Choosing the right restaurant is only half the equation. Understanding how dining works in Madrid will help you avoid tourist traps, save money, and eat like a local. Keep these practical tips in mind before you sit down at any table near the museum.

1. Embrace the menú del día at lunch.
From Monday to Friday, most restaurants offer a fixed-price lunch menu that includes a starter, main course, dessert or coffee, bread, and a drink. Prices near the Reina Sofía typically range from €12 to €18, making it the best value meal you’ll find. Portions are generous, and the quality often matches what you’d pay double for at dinner.

2. Avoid restaurants with photo menus and sidewalk touts.
If a host is standing outside aggressively inviting you in, or the menu features glossy photos of paella in multiple languages, keep walking. These establishments cater exclusively to tourists and rarely serve food that represents Madrid well. Authentic places let their reputation and full dining rooms speak for themselves.

3. Order the tapa that comes with your drink.
In many traditional bars around Lavapiés and Atocha, ordering a caña (small beer) or vermut automatically comes with a free tapa. It might be a few olives, a slice of tortilla, or a small portion of stew. This is one of Madrid’s great culinary traditions, and it’s an excellent way to sample a bar’s cooking without committing to a full meal.

4. Make reservations for dinner, especially Thursday through Saturday.
Madrileños take dinner seriously, and popular restaurants fill up quickly. If you have your heart set on a specific spot, call ahead or book online. For dinner, aim for 8:30 PM or 9:00 PM—arriving earlier may mean a nearly empty dining room, while arriving after 10:00 PM can leave you waiting for a table.

5. Walk five minutes further into Lavapiés or Huertas.
The immediate blocks around the museum have the highest concentration of tourist-oriented restaurants. Walking just five to ten minutes into the neighboring barrios opens up dramatically better options at lower prices. Calle Argumosa, Calle de las Huertas, and the streets around Plaza de Lavapiés are particularly rewarding.

6. Check if the kitchen closes in the afternoon.
Many sit-down restaurants close their kitchens between 4:00 PM and 8:00 PM. If you finish at the museum in the late afternoon and want a full meal, look for bars that serve raciones all day or plan to wait until dinner service begins. Café-style spots near the museum’s courtyard often serve sandwiches and pastries during the gap.

The area around Museo Reina Sofía rewards curious eaters who are willing to explore beyond the most obvious storefronts. By following local rhythms, seeking out family-run kitchens, and timing your meals thoughtfully, you’ll discover why Madrid’s food culture is among the most beloved in Europe. Buen provecho.
