12 Best Pharmacies in Nantes

Finding a reliable pharmacy in Nantes is about much more than simply filling a prescription. Whether you are a resident managing a chronic condition, a parent needing pediatric advice late at night, or a traveler who forgot essential medication, the quality of your local pharmacien can significantly impact your health. A great pharmacy offers personalized consultations, a wide range of natural products, and the ability to navigate the French healthcare system with ease.

The city of Nantes, with its vibrant neighborhoods ranging from the historic Bouffay district to the modern Île de Nantes, is served by a dense network of highly trained professionals. While most pharmacies in France offer a standard of care that is globally respected, some establishments distinguish themselves through exceptional service, specialized compounding, or extended hours. Knowing where to go before an emergency arises saves valuable time and reduces stress.

This guide focuses on the establishments that locals trust for their expertise in fields like homeopathy, dermatology, and maternal care. We have considered factors such as accessibility, staff knowledge, and the availability of hard-to-find medical devices. The goal is to connect you with a pharmacy that feels less like a retail shop and more like a community health hub.

In France, pharmacists are often the first point of contact for minor ailments, and they hold the authority to dispense specific medications that would require a doctor’s visit elsewhere. This makes the choice of pharmacy a critical component of your overall well-being. From language accessibility for expats to the speed of prescription fulfillment, the details matter.

Whether you live in the city center or the surrounding suburbs, you need a location that fits seamlessly into your routine. Some of the best options are located near major transit lines or medical centers, ensuring you can access care when you need it most. We have analyzed the local landscape to provide a curated list of trusted names.

Below is a selection of the highest-rated and most trusted pharmacies in the Nantes area, recognized for their commitment to patient care and professional excellence.

Overpriced, 45min wait time in line because the employees have no sense of urgency, and items are often not in stock. Go to a different pharmacy, there's plenty of better ones

5 stars for the very polite and professional staff in a crowded pharmacy at the center of the city. They have a privilege card but they do not always ask me for it because of the pressuring time. I recommended it to all my friends.

Slowest pharmacy in the world. You can have 5 peoples doing nothing, looking at you, when 30 people are queuing to get their medecins Really felt that they were giving the middle finger to everyone. Plenty of better chemist around thanks god Edit following the answer : No there was a queue of 30 peoples and none of pharmacist was talking to any customer. Only 1 out of 5 were in the working at the check out

My daughter came to your pharmacy this morning after being turned away by the large pharmacy in Paris for a strep throat test. I wanted to thank you. Apparently, she was very well received, and you agreed to perform the test based on her symptoms. I am her mother, and I live 330 km away. Obviously, she doesn't have a doctor in Nantes, so I thank you for taking care of her.

I could give you 5 stars, because you truly deserve them, but there's a recurring problem. I've been coming to this pharmacy for two years for my regular medication. As long as my prescription and supplemental insurance are up to date, everything goes very smoothly. The pharmacists and pharmacy technicians recognize me, know my file, and the dispensing is generally quick. However, when I deal with one of your employees, the wait is consistently much longer. Each time, she has to ask the pharmacists the same questions, double-check things that have already been verified, or ask for information again about a medication I've been taking for years. For several months now, I regularly find myself waiting at least twenty minutes, sometimes more than forty, while a pharmacist intervenes or she goes to get one. I completely understand that she wants to be thorough. She's polite and friendly, and I don't fault her attitude. However, these repeated delays are becoming a real problem. I come here specifically to pick up medication for ADHD, and waiting this long is particularly difficult. Today, with the heat, a 20- to 30-minute wait was the last straw. When she started explaining how to take a medication I've been taking for years, I had to interrupt her. I would like to continue coming to your pharmacy, as I am very satisfied with the rest of the team, who are professional and efficient. However, I would prefer not to be served by this particular employee from now on. I don't like writing this kind of review, but this situation has become far too frequent.

Not once in four years have I received good service... Oh wait, there was one last year with the lovely apprentice (intern?)! Otherwise, there are always hours-long waits, even during off-peak hours, and the pharmacy staff are condescending, giving out brand-name medications when you specifically ask for the generic... I recommend the Madeleine pharmacy; the staff are wonderful caregivers, not salespeople like here.
Avi cii★★★★★
Always a warm welcome from the pharmacists who are very friendly.

Hello, I want to report the salesperson with the blue glasses. He's very unpleasant in his responses, for no reason. Arrogant and condescending at every opportunity. He needs to take a good look at himself. When you work in a profession like yours, it's good to be at least a little more considerate. I absolutely do not recommend him, and this isn't just a one-off experience: living in the neighborhood, I've encountered this same behavior from him several times. The Madeleine pharmacy in the area is a much better alternative. In short: avoid him
Mary Verger★★★★★
No worries at all about this pharmacy! Every time I walk in, I'm very happy. The staff is very pleasant and competent. A pleasure to go there... as long as you're not too sick, of course 😂

Friendly staff under a tonne of pressure. They had a queue out the door for hours but yet they were still friendly. (And spoke very good English to us non French speakers) All the people complaining about having to queue depsite booking are incapable of reading, because it mentions on doctolib that they don't do appointments. Bring your own pen, and queue up and wait. Highly recommend for rapid antigen, PCR test results in Nantes. We got our result in 30 mins like they promised Go early in the day to give them time to sort any complications before they close at 7pm.

Various products here with affordable prices. The staffs are friendly, a guy that can communicate well in English, he was very helpful and gave me wise suggestions on products for my skin condition. The store is 5 mins walk from the bus station. There’s a awkward moment when the security gate went wrong, it rang when I left, even though I paid all my bill. But the staff told me it’s okay, the gate often gives false alarm. 5* for the professional service.

Hello, Not very friendly. First of all, I didn't know I had to insert my health insurance card. Then I was rushed out, the explanations about taking the medication were rushed, in short, it's all pointless anyway. Besides, I had six boxes of medication; a small bag would have been nice (you're going to talk to me about the environment, okay?). But instead, thank me for stopping by. And last time, you tried to sell me a cold compress for my back when it was for my wisdom teeth! Thanks and goodbye.

First time I've ever left a review for a pharmacy, and I won't be going back! The woman was very cold… it happens. However, when I asked about a specific type of medication, she gave a curt response and seemed reluctant to offer advice or suggest alternatives. I felt like I was bothering her more than anything else.
Linda Khoury★☆☆☆☆
I was verbally assaulted in this pharmacy and had to leave in a state of shock after coming in for information about a prescription! The so-called "pharmacist" became completely uncontrollable when she realized the medication had been dispensed by another pharmacy downtown. Not only did she refuse to help me, but her sudden and excessive anger frightened me so much that I had no choice but to leave the pharmacy immediately. This happened in broad daylight, but I was so panicked that I feared for my safety. I'm still shaken when I think about it. In short: Unacceptable! I had been to this pharmacy several times before to buy beauty products. The moment I came in for information, not to buy anything, the so-called "pharmacist" behaved in a manner unbecoming of her profession, barking furiously instead of speaking politely! Following the inappropriate and shameful response from "the manager": At no point did I specify a precise date of my visit to your pharmacy regarding this outrageous verbal attack. You have the monstrous audacity to deny events that clearly occurred in your pharmacy. You don't even demonstrate a modicum of empathy after reading about the situation and the emotional shock it caused me that day! Perhaps you should consider changing professions, just like that so-called "pharmacist" who verbally attacked me so furiously in your establishment? Ultimately, the only false and defamatory statements here are yours, as it is my right to testify to a situation I truly experienced and which was particularly traumatic. Since then, simply walking down the street near your pharmacy makes me extremely uncomfortable. Are you even aware of the sensitivity of some people? Your attitude is not only unhealthy but also unworthy of this profession. Read your own words again and note how violent they are, when I was simply reporting the reality of a personal experience! It seems to me that the truth bothers you because you are perfectly aware of these scandalous behaviors within your pharmacy, since you are clearly reproducing them yourself in writing!

Just a bad experience, which I think could happen elsewhere. Nevertheless, I wanted to share our unfortunate experience. The pharmacist recommended a magnesium brand that is unfortunately not recommended for pregnant women. My partner realized this herself after three days of treatment. We want to take every precaution. No compensation was offered. We regret this. Thank you anyway to the whole team. Happy New Year.

Excellent pharmacy. I've been going there for many years and have always received a very warm welcome from all the pharmacists who have run the business. I buy my over-the-counter products there, especially the HT26 Preparation range. I highly recommend it!
Georges MOMO★☆☆☆☆
I've been there several times, and the service is just appalling. It's honestly not worth it. ################ Update But you come on social media to apologize, when it's so simple: just serve your customers. The first time, about three months ago, we took the prescription, she looked at it for a few minutes, I felt like she was nitpicking, she called over the man who seemed to be the manager, he looked at it, typed on the machine, and said no, we couldn't serve you. Without arguing or getting angry, I left. And at another pharmacy, I was served in a few minutes with courtesy, everything was done with a smile. The second time, I hesitated, but since I was in the store, another woman took the prescription and started asking questions again. I immediately said, "Madam, if there's a problem, give me my health insurance card and the prescription. I'm going somewhere else before we close," because it was already 7 p.m. The woman told me to wait a little, sir, and I waited a few minutes. Later, she said, "Oh, you've never been here before." I said, "Madam, please give me your health insurance card and the prescription." She gave them to me, and I left. Unfortunately, by the time I got to the other pharmacy, it was closed. The next day, I was served elsewhere once again without any problem. Twice? I'm willing to believe it's a coincidence. But I'm not sure.
Françoise Le Lievre★☆☆☆☆
Absolutely avoid this place. The "manager" is incredibly arrogant. She plays with words and is completely unhelpful. She doesn't hesitate to make sarcastic remarks about the patient's situation. A disgrace to the profession. She would have excelled at directing traffic! At the pharmacy in Paris, I was received with kindness and attentiveness. Two words unknown at the pharmacy in the city center.

Lili Lala★☆☆☆☆
Needing an on-call pharmacy in the evening for an emergency, the Nantes police station directed me to this pharmacy on Place Viarme. Even when the police officer called the pharmacy to let them know I was coming, he hung up and said, with an amused air, "Well, it seems the person here isn't very keen on seeing you, but oh well, it's their job!" That sets the tone... Once I arrived, the woman who served me (in her fifties, with a brown bob and glasses) was very condescending and really treated me like an idiot (to put it politely) the whole time. Since it was nighttime, the patient has to stay outside, and the pharmacist speaks to us from a small window that opens. So she opens this small window when I arrive and waits. Not a hello, nothing at all. I then explained my situation to her. She was speaking from a distance, away from that small window, and with the noise of the trams, cars, pedestrians, and surrounding bars, I was really struggling to hear what she was saying. When I pointed out that I was having trouble hearing her, she rolled her eyes (but didn't move closer or speak louder) and then launched into some nonsensical "explanations." She started talking about numbers and letters in a QR code (which I was supposed to figure out where to find) and then blurted out a long email address that I was expected to memorize and spell myself, all while asking me to show her my ID. When I asked her to repeat the things I hadn't understood or heard, she lost her temper and told me she wouldn't be able to give me my medication if she didn't have what she needed (???). I explained to her that I really wanted to give her everything she needed, but that I couldn't understand anything she was saying and only heard half of what she was saying. I also explained that I really needed these medications and that's why I went through SOS Médecins and then Waldeck Rousseau, and she finally told me she would see what she could do. After a long and unpleasant back-and-forth (I had to figure out on my own what she really wanted in order to get my medication), I finally got my drugs. I regret giving this review to the pharmacy because I don't know what the quality of service is like during normal daytime hours, and I want to clarify that I have nothing against the staff in general. I understand that working nights can sometimes be difficult; I've been there myself. But that in no way gives anyone the right to be unpleasant, especially in a medical emergency where stress and pain are already present.
Anne HENRION★★★★★
A pharmacy where you feel warmly welcomed and listened to. The staff also give excellent advice! A big thank you to you.

Once in line, the pharmacist asked the woman behind me to go to the counter first. I replied that I was first, but the pharmacist winked at her and said it was fine, before continuing to serve the woman who arrived later. The pharmacy practices serious discrimination against Asians. I found the person in charge and was told I had only waited 30 seconds! Wrong!

How to Choose the Right Pharmacy for Your Needs

Selecting a pharmacy goes beyond proximity; it is about finding a partner in your health journey. The following tips will help you identify a location that aligns with your specific medical requirements and lifestyle preferences. Whether you need specialized pediatric care or simply a quick refill, knowing what to look for ensures you receive the best possible service.

1. Verify Extended and Night Hours (Gardes)

Most standard pharmacies close by 7:30 PM, but medical needs do not follow a schedule. Before you need it, identify the pharmacie de garde schedule for nights and Sundays. In Nantes, this schedule rotates, and you can usually find the assigned pharmacy posted on the door of any closed establishment or via the local police station. Saving this information on your phone prevents panic during late-night emergencies.

2. Look for Specialized Compounding (Préparations Magistrales)

Not every pharmacy has the laboratory equipment to create custom medications. If you require a specific dosage that is not commercially available, or if you need a medication without a certain allergen or dye, you need a pharmacy that offers compounding services. These pharmacists can prepare creams, capsules, or syrups tailored specifically to your doctor’s exact specifications.

3. Assess the Parapharmacy Selection

For non-prescription needs, the quality of the parapharmacy section matters. A top-tier pharmacy will stock high-end dermo-cosmetic brands like Avène, La Roche-Posay, and Bioderma, as well as quality nutritional supplements. The staff should be able to explain the difference between similar products and recommend the most cost-effective option rather than simply pushing the most expensive brand.

4. Check for Language Accessibility

Nantes is home to a large international student and expat population. If French is not your first language, navigating medical terminology can be daunting. Look for pharmacies where the staff speaks English or other languages. This ensures that you fully understand dosage instructions, potential side effects, and drug interactions without ambiguity.

5. Inquire About Vaccination Services

In recent years, French pharmacists have been authorized to administer certain vaccinations, including the flu shot and COVID-19 boosters. Choosing a pharmacy with a certified vaccinator on staff saves you a trip to the doctor’s office. It is often faster and requires less waiting time, making it a convenient option for busy professionals.

6. Consider Digital Services and App Integration

The best pharmacies in Nantes have modernized their operations. Look for establishments that offer a mobile app or online portal where you can pre-order refills. This is particularly useful for chronic medications. Instead of waiting in line, you simply receive a notification when your prescription is ready for pickup, ensuring your treatment is never interrupted.

Finding the right pharmacy creates a safety net for you and your family. By prioritizing expertise and convenience now, you ensure that when illness strikes, you are met with competent care rather than confusion. Take the time to visit a few locations on this list to find the one that feels right for your specific health philosophy and logistical needs.
