Finding the right base can make or break a trip to Menorca. While the island is famous for its hidden coves and sleepy inland villages, staying near Mahón Harbour places you at the vibrant heart of its cultural capital. This natural port—one of the largest in the world—offers a unique blend of maritime history, gastronomic excellence, and convenient access to the rest of the island.
The harbor is not just a place to catch a ferry; it is a destination in itself. The waterfront promenade buzzes with life, from sleek superyachts docking for the summer to traditional fishing boats unloading the day’s catch. Choosing accommodation here means you are steps away from sunset cocktails, fresh seafood, and the gentle lapping of the Mediterranean Sea.
However, the area surrounding the port is diverse. The geography ranges from the historic old town perched high on the cliff to the modern, lively quayside below. Depending on whether you prioritize panoramic views, quiet luxury, or proximity to the ferry terminals, your ideal location will vary significantly.
We have analyzed the local hospitality scene to bring you a curated selection of the finest places to stay. Our criteria focus on guest comfort, location practicality, distinctive character, and value for money. Whether you are a solo traveler on a sailing trip or a couple seeking a romantic getaway, this guide covers the spectrum.
From boutique townhouses converted from 18th-century merchant homes to contemporary hotels with rooftop pools overlooking the masts, the options are varied. You do not have to sacrifice authenticity for comfort; many of these properties seamlessly blend Menorcan heritage with modern amenities.
Read on to discover the definitive list of the best hotels near Mahón Harbour. We have also included essential booking tips to ensure you secure the best room for your specific travel style and avoid the common pitfalls of booking in this popular district.

Overall, I was a bit disappointed. I expected for the price/night at least a small balcony from a 4-star hotel room, and the bathroom shower wasn't very clean (again, I'd expect impeccable service from a 4-star). The general atmosphere at reception, the pool, and the bar was very sober. I didn't feel relaxed or particularly welcome. It's not a family hotel, at least not compared to the hotel we stayed at the previous week (but no comparison is possible, that was amazing). The location is close to the port and about a 20-minute walk from the center.

We're just back from a lovely long May bank holiday weekend in Mahon and had a great stay at the Senator Port Mahon hotel. Our rooms were modern, stylish and spotlessly clean and the staff were super-friendly and helpful. The hotel has stunning views over the harbour and is in a very quiet location whilst only being a very short walk into town. There are heaps of nice cafes and restaurants v close by too. All in a great spot - thank you for a very relaxing stay!

Will never ever be back ignorant staff bar service worst in the World bar closes 11pm unreal !!! Rooms dated and our shower flooded the thing that ruins this place is rip off taxis as the hotel gets a percentage and everywhere closes at 11pm so they make a fortune. THE rooms are dated and need renovated the staff are so rude beyond belief they think they are royality and can treat you like dirt. They are contracted seasonal workers who get paid in the winter by the Menorcan government so they dont care less about you. The prices here are EXTORTIONATE !!! YOU PAY TOURIST TAX OF €23 PER WEEK AS IT CLASSES ITSELF AS 4**** its actually a 2** so beware. There is mould in shower and hairs in bathroom that are constanly there as cleaners dont hoover the bathroom also found a long hairy centipede in bathroom !!! These rooms should be insect free if cleaned and disenfectected properly.

Update 19 April 2026: today the system has been switched to cooling in time for our last night here, which is very welcome. Updating room and general rating from 2 stars to 4. Despite the cooling issue, staff have been pleasant and helpful.
Original review: Beware! No aircon until some time in May! Although they describe rooms as "air conditioned" this is not true all year round. The management decide when to switch from heating to cooling some time in May, so if your room feels stuffy at night on sunny days around end of April or start of May, you have a choice of leaving a balcony door open and risking mosquito bites, or asking the hotel for a fan. Apparently this has been the case for some years.

We had dinner here tonight as our friends are staying at the hotel. The restaurant staff are useless. We had reserved but they didn´t know, just stared at screens. We ordered, and it was Ok until the mains arrive. A whole lenguado, not cheap laid across a plate of potato chips. Our friend asked if they could filet the fish- she asked in both Spanish and Catalan. The waiter looked confused. She asked again and the fish was taken away. Eventually the fileted fish returned, minus the potatoes and after we had all finished eating. We asked for the potatoes. The potatoes came, completely cold. We ordered a drink. 10 minutes no drink. Wait staff were crowded around the computer, not serving. I went inside to complain, ask where the drink was and return the very cold potatoes. The drink came, eventually. The potatoes were returned, hot. No apology, no concern, just a sulking attitude. DO NOT EAT HERE. Appalling attitude and service. Go anywhere else if you want to be treated as you should be. They don´t deserve any trade

Room was lovely and the staff are excellent. Great views over the harbour. Pool area was very well kept with a nice bar and snack truck. Walk into town was the only thing we didn’t like, but wouldn’t have the view if the hotel was anywhere else.

My friend and I had an excellent holiday at your Mirador des Port hotel in Menorca, 5th to 12th June. We stayed there last year and in fact we will probably go again next year. The Hotel staff were so accommodating and friendly, and the service was excellent! We received a 10% discount on everything and 51,50€ to spend in the restaurant or bar with your rewards scheme. Before the holiday, I spoke to Veronica several times, she was so helpful, and in fact at the reception to welcome us and say goodbye. We were upgraded to a suite which we very much appreciated as it meant we could have a bedroom and bathroom each. Judit was also extremely knowledgeable and helpful when we needed local information. We ate in the hotel restaurant 4 times during our stay, and each time the food and service was excellent. The standard of cleanliness is extremely high. Honestly, it was a perfect holiday. Thank you

The hotel is super cute and nicely situated. Mind you the breakfast says it closes at 11 AM and if you get there at 10:58 you won't be able to get as much as a coffee. Also if you want to stream Netflix on your phone (to the TV, from which it gives you an option to do so) good luck on getting maintenance into your room. Room service ends at 11 PM and unless you call before 10:20pm you won't be attended to because the service has apparently closed. Other than that, the rooms are super cute and the parking below the hotel is fantastic.

I stayed at Hotel Catalonia Mirador des Port for a recent vacation and it was a top notch experience. It was my first time visiting Menorca and the staff made my stay very worthwhile.
I am giving a special thanks to Cristián who was exceptional. He was attentive and genuine and ensured our group had a wonderful time visiting the bar and main floor restaurant.
The experience staying here makes me want to return!

Spacious and clean rooms. There are USB plugs built into their lamps which was great because we forgot ours.
It was self check in which I was not prepared for but the process of adding your passport info was quite simple.
During the morning, finding a cab in the area in October was so difficult. With no front desk, we couldn’t be helped.
A few hours after we left, I got a text saying I still owed the tourist tax which was only a few dollars but was annoying cause we were in a rush getting around places and that text just seemed to add to the headache. But, payment was also very seamless so it’s not as bad as I’m making it out to be. Just a text that looked suspicious at first!
The hotel was in a great location (quiet with not much going on) as it was easily walkable to pretty much anywhere in town.
No great views and nothing special but did the job of having a comfortable bed and roof over our heads!

We are staying here now, there is no reception so the code to get in is sent to you on day of arrival and entry is allowed at 2pm, all worked perfectly for us. The room is clean but basic, exactly as the photos show, fairly new and the hotel is a lovely base to get around the small area of Es Castell. We asked cleaner for 1 more pillow and it was provided immediately, the safe was not working but they responded immediately saying they would get someone to look at it. Really enjoying our stay and would recommend.

The stay was perfect. Silent, clean, warm and new hotel at the heart of Es Castell. The staff is junior but extremely kind. We loved the breakfast and the treat received by Maria, the girl at Vilar Hotel - were breakfast is served. This place is not for those looking for luxury but for natural, heartful and simple living.

This hotel seemed very new, and was very clean. Reception isn't open 24/7 but we received a text with the check in details which allowed us a smooth check in when arriving late at night. Airco was functioning well and sound isolation was great, we barely heard the other guests.
There is a free, public parking area a 3min walk away.
Would highly recommend the hotel.

Super nice hotel for a stay in Mao.
Every staff member was super sweet and friendly. They gave me nice recommendations for Restaurants.

Best part was the breakfast. Not to much stuff, product and quality oriented. Really good cheese and jamon, nice fruits and lovely cakes.
I strongly recommend this hotel.

**Edited - since the reply from the owner ***
Thanks for you reply, its a shame you did not have this quick communication when contacted before, during and after my stay. Your reply is untruthful, no alternative was offered nor were we relocated. To be clear, this is LIE and did not happen.
*********
The hotel was nice, and location is excellent.
I contacted them 3 times before arrival asking about parking and the SPA with no response. On arrival to be told there is no parking, we eventually found somewhere to park, down near the port, however it is up and down 300 steps so be aware if you have mobility issues.
The biggest disappointment however was the SPA was not even open, we were not told of this beforehand or even when we checked in. Only when we went to enquire about how we book it. Was no apology from the staff, just a "its closed". Have contacted them since and Hotels.com who we booked it with have, and they have not responded to either of us. Very Poor from what should due to its location be an excellent place to stay.
We will be back to Mahon, just not to this hotel, and i wouldn't recommend it to anyone either.

We stayed one night in this hotel, and it wasn’t very pleasant unfortunately. The main glass door that welcomed us into the hotel was half broken which wasn’t reassuring. Our room was dirty, the carpet had a lot of stains and hair everywhere on the floor, curtains had holes in them, the cups were dirty. The bathroom had black fungus around the shower glass door. The soap dispensers were broken and old, the towels had huge black marks on them. The spa as such looks nice but they’ve put wooden tables in such s humid area so the feet of the tables are starting to get black/moldy as well - the jacuzzi’s were cold, the women’s toilet was dirty. The only thing we enjoyed was the newly installed sauna and the location of the hotel as it’s very central.
We informed the manager and the only thing she could provide us with was - if we were to come back (which we won’t) a complimentary stay. For a 250€ a night the least I expected was a reimbursement to some extend, if not everything. Very disappointing and unacceptable for a 4 star hotel.
Jan Conway★★★☆☆
The hotel is perfectly located. The service where it involves human resources is excellent.
The down side is that our first night was shared with 2 mature cockroaches.
There was no outside space to sit in the hotel. Also the spa area was an additional cost of €20 each one hour hire.
The room was divided into a space for a small lounge and a space for a small bedroom. In my opinion, it would have been a better use of space without the divider as it only housed a television either side.
The place is ideal for people who want to be central. There is a cafe opposite the hotel which is excellent for morning and daytime snacks.
I would recommend the hotel for a place to stay on a weekend visit.

My wife booked the hotel very last minute whilst I booked the flights. We stayed in room 320 which was a very spacious/clean apartment/room with a small kitchenette, large sofa/sofabed beautiful bathroom, a large bedroom and a partial sea view from the balcony. Zero complaints. I couldn't figure out how to work the air con but not a problem since the weather was mild so didn't need it really.
When checking in, Christina the manager introduced herself and her enthusiasm for the hotel was great to see and really set the tone.
We booked half board and at the price we paid, we were really just expecting the usual buffet slop. But dinner was full three course ala carte each night! All the food was prepared to a high standard, tasted nice and the staff friendly. By day two they'd remembered our room number. Drinks weren't included but they were reasonably priced so again, no complaints. Breakfast was fine. A reasonable selection that should suit most people. There was only one coffee machine for most of the week which was SLOW but on the day we left, I did see they had another live which is good because the hotel wasn't busy when we were there and it caused a queue sometimes. During peak months it would have been a nightmare!
The location of the hotel is quite out of the way. Perfect for a couple like ourselves who wanted somewhere quiet and we chose it because it was out of the way. The town is about a ten minute drive for when you want to do/see things. If you are young and want action/party then this is not the right place for you.
Overall, we had a lovely relaxing stay. It really had a friendly/family run feel to the hotel. Everything was maintained to a high standard.
Thank you to everyone there for a lovely holiday.

We stayed at Calallonga Hotel Menorca as we were performing at a wedding reception at La Mola. It was positioned very nicely to the venue with easy access via taxi. The pool area was very well maintained and comfortable.
We arrived early but the staff were very friendly and accommodating. We went for lunch straight away and there was a vast menu, we ordered the chicken which was very generous portion, salmon salad and burgers. It was all very nice and a lovely setting. The waitress was very helpful and friendly and it was a very nice experience. We were tight for time but it was not a problem and everything was very good.
The breakfast was great with lots of different options to suit the team. Very nice juices, crossiants, cheeses, scrambled egss and sausages as well as fruit, teas coffee, breads.
The rooms were perfect for what we needed and it was ashame we weren't staying longer. Thank you so much for having us

I have been so fortunate to have discovered this amazing hotel several years ago it’s predominately for adults, definitely one of if not the best hotels on the island, the staff are friendly, attentive nothing is too much trouble it really should be a 5 star rating. We stayed at this lovely hotel in July and had an absolutely wonderful experience. The rooms were spacious, cosy, and spotlessly clean, creating the perfect environment to relax after long days out. The staff were truly the friendliest we’ve ever encountered — warm, attentive, and always ready to help.
A very special thanks to Jemma for her kind heart and exceptional attention. She made us feel genuinely cared for throughout our stay.
It was also my boyfriend’s birthday during our trip, and without us mentioning a thing, the team surprised him with warm congratulations. And that little piece of birthday cake during breakfast was the sweetest touch — it truly made our morning!
Many thanks to the whole team for making our stay unforgettable. We can’t wait to return!

An exceptional luxury hotel in Menorca with breathtaking views over the Port of Maó. Rarely do I feel compelled to write a review on a short stay of 2-nights.
Such was the hospitality of all the staff at Hotel Casa Miranda that I felt obliged to.
Madeleine at reception couldn’t have been more helpful and put me at ease from the moment I checked in.
For that matter, all the staff through to the cleaners were welcoming and approachable.
Finally, the value for money for the location and the quality of the room are difficult to compete with. Thank you for having me.

My friend and I had the best time in Menorca. The hotel is so lovely and clean (I have to say it is probably one of the cleanest hotels I have stayed before - there is no mould at all in the bathroom; also got really nice toiletries). Such a friendly welcome, thank you.
Glad to have found this hotel, it was in a perfect location for us.
Our room was spacious and clean, with efficient, quiet air conditioning. We had a room with a large terrace and view of the church.

FABULOUS little hotel in the heart of Mahon, but away from too much bustling noise. Also located directly across from the police station, so for anyone wanting to feel especially safe, great option.
The hotelier, Olga, was so helpful, so wonderful. She really made us feel like preferred guests. It’s like a home away from home. Gorgeous old property, originally a stately home and now converted, with so many original aspects. Comfortable bed, large rooms, easy place. Highly recommend!!

As a local freelancer, I’m always trying different places to work from, and Hotel Agamenon was a great surprise.
I visited the bar area during the morning and around lunchtime. It was very quiet and peaceful, which made it perfect for getting some work done. This may have been partly because it is not yet peak season, but the atmosphere was ideal for working. There are power outlets on every column, making it ideal for remote workers and business travelers alike.
The views are absolutely stunning, overlooking Isla del Rey and the Port of Mahón. It’s a beautiful setting to spend a few hours.
Antonio the waiter was very friendly and welcoming, which made the experience even better.
The only small suggestion I would make is to offer a larger glass for iced coffees. Other than that, I had a very pleasant experience and would happily return.

We had a wonderful 4 night stay.
Whilst our room was in need of some updating the view from our balcony was stunning. The common areas we in good order, with the pool and sun loungers being a lovely oasis at the end of a hot day!
The breakfast was very good with plenty of choice, and the hotel is only a 10 mins walk from the bars and restaurants in Cala Fonts.
But, what made our stay special was the staff. From the moment we arrived until we left they could not do enough for us. They were always professional as well as being friendly and helpful. All the staff were excellent but a special mention needs to go to Andrea, Carol, Cili and Marigia on reception and Harold and Barbara in the bar/restaurant.
We'll happily return!

Only giving 4 stars because of the location.
Everything at the hotel was fantastic. The breakfast is very fresh and you get to eat while overlooking the ocean (see video). The staff are all very helpful and incredibly friendly. If you're looking for a quiet hotel away from the hustle of Menorca, this is a perfect place.
My ONLY complaint is how far this hotel is from the bigger areas with shopping and beaches in eastern Menorca. The village itself is very nice and has quite a few restaurants.
Wayne Harper★★★★★
From the moment we arrived we were made to feel very welcome, reception where fantastic and so helpful, all the bar/restaurant staff were so good, the room view was the best I've ever had in 30 years, cleaning staff where so pleasant, absolutely great holiday and the staff and views made it one of our best ever, thank you!!

Our stay at Seth Agamenón Hotel in Menorca was absolutely exceptional. We spent 6 nights there during the second week of August and could not have asked for a better experience.
The hotel was spotless, aesthetically pleasing, and very charming. We booked both breakfast and dinner, and the buffets exceeded our expectations: everything was tasty, plentiful, and offered a great variety of dishes. Having breakfast and dinner in the restaurant with its beautiful sea view made the experience even more special.
The staff made our stay even more memorable – always friendly, helpful, and smiling, whether at the buffet or at the reception. A special mention goes to Andrea, whose kindness and warm smile truly stood out.
To our surprise, upon arrival we were even allowed to check in early at 11 a.m., which was a wonderful start to our holiday.
We truly loved our stay and would love to come back!

Although this is a hostel, it feels like a proper hotel. Everything is incredibly organized and clean, especially for such a reasonable price. Lovely place, just like the pictures. Small hotel, quite new, well located. The rooms are clean, comfortable bed and nice shower. You barely see the staff but they are quite nice and helpful. The down side is that you if go down to breakfast a little late there won’t be much left. Menorca was lovely, but the experience of staying at Artiem Capri made my holiday unforgettable; and a kind member of staff who helped out greatly.
The hotel itself is clean, there is a lounge area, a mini bar, coffee machine and a stocked drinks fridge to enjoy downstairs just across from reception. There is a lift which helped getting up and down in the heat.
My boyfriend and I were on the second floor and we had a well rested stay. We stayed in the Urban Balcony room. There was no noise from the other rooms (either above or below us), the AC and fan in the room were extremely efficient, and there is a mini fridge which we found really helpful to keep our drinks cold. The shower runs both hot and cold water quickly, and the pressure was good. The balcony was lovely to sit outside and admire the views.
The pool and jacuzzi on the 6th floor is a great touch. We used them once during our stay, in the evening around 7pm-ish, and it was pretty much empty.
When we arrived, I had already completed the check-in process online beforehand via email, so this made the introduction at the front desk much more efficient.
My boyfriend and I were attended to by Lucy, and from our entry of the hotel right until the exit, she was amazing. She explained all the amenities of Artiem Capri, and made sure we were comfortable. She always greeted us with a smile. We had even called reception at one point due to transportation issues, and Lucy again helped us out.
Overall, this is a great place to stay and I would recommend it to anyone who is looking to book. It truly made our holiday so much more enjoyable knowing that after being out in the heat and soaking Menorca in, we were able to rest well and be treated with so much kindness. 🙂

After a bad experience at another hotel, we booked Artiem Capri for 5 days and it was the best decision ever. Even though it's not right on the beach, the location is very central, convenient for everything, and super strategic. The entire team was fantastic from start to finish. A special touch is that 100% of our room proceeds went to charity, which is an amazing initiative that makes you feel great about staying here. The property is spotless, with always super clean rooms, an incredible Turkish bath smelling of essential oils, and a pool with a spacious two-story solarium so there is plenty of room for everyone. The breakfast and the massage we had were also excellent. The icing on the cake is their "The Green" service, which includes snacks and soft drinks at your disposal for free: an incredible value. When we had a small issue with the room, Eva was amazing and helped us immediately. Plus, since our flight was delayed, they let us stay by the pool until the afternoon. This hotel is truly fantastic and everyone should go!

Fantastic hotel in the heart of Menorca’s city center.
The location is ideal for exploring the town on foot.
The facilities are really impressive: Great little breakfast, mini bar in the lobby, great spa, relaxing hammam, and a lovely swimming pool.
The rooms are large, clean, and well equipped, with a fridge and very comfortable bedding.
A huge thank you to Eva and Cécile for their warm welcome and exceptional kindness throughout our stay.
They were always smiling, helpful, and attentive, and they made us feel Truly Welcome.
We would definitely recommend this hotel and would be happy to return!

In my opinion, the Artiem Capri Hotel in Mahon stands out as a solid choice for travelers who value exceptional amenities and welcoming hospitality without paying overinflated prices. The rooms themselves are clean, comfortable, and remarkably quiet, anchored by a huge TV and a shower that delivers incredible water pressure after a long day of exploring, even if the lack of AirPlay integration is a minor inconvenience. The staff across the board are wonderfully friendly and attentive in their daily interactions. What really pushes this hotel well above its competitors in this price category is the culinary offering and social spaces. The breakfast is just outstanding, featuring rich and high-quality food that outperforms most places in a simliar price bracket, while the cozy lounge area stocked with refreshments and light snacks provides a great refuge to recharge. Heading up to the sixth floor reveals a compact, elevated pool area that serves up fantastic panoramic vistas over the surrounding city skyline.
That being sai there are several distinct operational flaws here that keep this hotel from earning top marks. In my opinion, the balcony setup in certain rooms is borderline unusable. Ours looked directly into a neighbor's window just a few meters across, but the real issue was its placement directly above the building's central air-conditioning exhaust fans. The constant blast of trapped heat pushed the balcony temperature to an unbearable 40 degrees Celsius, effectively reducing the space to nothing more than a glorified clothes-drying rack, which is further restricted as a non-smoking zone. Furthermore, walking into the lobby feels like stepping into an industrial freezer set around, what felt like, 18 degrees, creating a brutal physical shock when returning from the muggy 37-degree heat and high humidity outside or the other way around.
Housekeeping also fell short on basic execution and attention to detail. We had to repeatedly remind the staff to keep our twin beds separated because they kept pushing them back together into a double every single day, and the floor cleaning was questionable at best, as evidenced by beach sand lingering in our bathroom clear through our fourth day. It remains a fantastic stay overall, but these functional details prevent it from achieving true perfection.

Good location, just a short walk to the front for amazing views of Mao docks, a short 5 min walk into town.
The room was very basic, was expecting at least a window comparing the pictures of the advert, but we made it work.
Service was brilliant and the onsite Cafe and Bar were excellent and very reasonably priced.

The hostal is very clean and comfortable. The reception Man is exceptionally kind and helpful demonstrating flexible approach and making our stay even better. Thank you!

Just a Hostel with small rooms (good bed though) But location and especially the service is outstanding! Very friendly staff. You get real coffee con leche and a refill if you like and not the machine stuff they have in 4* hotels. The cafeteria is filled with travelers and locals in the morning making the place an authentic melting point to start your day.

I arrived and checked in at almost midnight. The room was beautiful and clean, and the receptionist was very welcoming.

Plus:
Lovely modern deco.
Great value breakfast.
Comfortable beds.
Lots of hot water.
Less than plus: no hairdryer in the room.
Electric timer in public places, does not give you time to open your room door and key in room electrics.

We only stayed for two days, but the staff made it genuinely enjoyable. The rooms are alright, but the real highlight was how welcoming and friendly everyone was. Martin took the time to show us the best spots on the island and had great recommendations for food and activities. The housekeeping team were equally attentive, kind, and a genuine pleasure to interact with. A big thank you to all of them.

The true highlight of this hotel is the staff: they shared the best spots on the island that perfectly matched what we were looking for, without us even asking, driven purely by their passion and love for the island ✨ The location is convenient for the port, and the old town is within walking distance if you don’t mind a short stroll. The room was clean and well kept.

Lovely relaxing stay. We stayed here for my birthday. I went with my boyfriend. Had a rooftop pool. This hotel was not busy so managed to have a swim in the morning. Highly relaxing.

Rooms are not secure - the codes to the room are easily guessed. There was never anyone at reception; we had to phone each time to get someone. None of the lights in our room worked (except bathroom) and the air con was incredibly loud so we ended up sleeping in a warm and dark room. Luckily we were only there one night.
However, hotel was clean and the staff were friendly when they did appear.

EDIT: Customer service after our stay was very bad.
The common room downstairs had two cockroaches that were laying dead and squashed on the floor for several days (and we saw another one in the hallway) and I returned home with suspected bedbug bites, of course, these cannot conclusively be attributed to the hotel, as I only realised after leaving the hotel that the bites were more consistent with bedbugs than with mosquitos and did therefore not check the room. We informed the hotel after departing and their response was disappointing to say the least.
With regard to the cockroaches (photos were sent to the hotel): they said that this can just sometimes happen when they "...they filter out of the street door because of the heat..."
With regard to the chance of bed bugs: the hotel told us that they have regular checks and that they "...have reviewed the history and their comments and everything is positive...."
What strikes me as odd about these responses is the fact that there was no attempt to rectify the problem. "oh we will have the room checked immediately" would have been the type of response that we would have expected, instead of quasi "well no one else complained so it must be fine and we will wait until our next inspection".
By that logic, then there is never a first time for bed bugs to appear, if the people before us didn't have a problem in the room, then it's not possible that we did?
In many cases, hotels would offer compensation for cockroaches, even "only" in the common areas.
I am against leaving bad reviews for rectifiable issues without reaching out to the establishment first, as bad reviews have a large impact on businesses, however, good customer service is key and the ability to work on problems is also essential. Even "just" cockroaches are not normal.

We stayed at this hotel for over a week. Firstly I would like to mention that the hotel is more like a hostel with private rooms and a cleaning service than a hotel. However it was clean and the cleaning staff was very nice and whereas our stay was not in any way bad, we wouldn’t choose to stay again.
Check in: check in took too long, and was over-complicated for the person who checked us in who we felt bad for because the app or whatever they use wasn’t working, everywhere else we stayed took much less time 2/10
Location: location was good, walkable to the port of Mahon and to Es Castell. 8/10
Rooms: Clean, but small and not enough hooks and not enough space for towels in the bathroom. The beds are okay, but not overly comfortable and queen-sized. Our mini fridge became warm when turned to both min and max, it was only cold when set to medium, so our food perished. The TV was good, but there were only 20 Spanish channels, we had the foresight to pack an HDMI cable. The room had a large mirror which we liked. Light came through under and around the door at night. 5/10
Facilities: Pool looked nice, although we didn’t go in it. Apart from that, there are no other facilities, no bar, no breakfast etc. the Wi-Fi was good. 3/10
Cleaning: The rooms themselves were very clean, however, the seal in the shower had some black parts and there was no toilet brush. The cleaning fluid also smells like vinegar. 6/10 (but not because of the staff!)
Security: Room codes are a joke, once you know one you know all of them, we won’t write it here, but it’s ridiculous. 1/10
Staff: the cleaning staff were lovely, always very friendly and helpful. There were no other staff, not even a receptionist. 10/10 (for the people we met)

Fantastic stay. Really clean, modern and has all the amenities you would need. Even lovely AirConditioning! I'd say it would closer to be 4 star than 3 star! Absolutely would stay again and would recommend to friends and family.
Emma Cadman★★★★☆
This hotel is lovely. The room was medium sized and very clean. The bed was extremely comfortable and the shower was delightful. There was a little noise as other guests came and went but that was mostly because other than that it was so quiet.
Checking in was hassle free, and the team on the reception at la Isla were really friendly and helped wherever possible.
The hotel is less than a 5 minute walk in to the town, where you'll find plenty of restaurants and shops. I would highly recommend if you're looking to spend a few days in mahon.

All very friendly and good service. We had a relaxing time. Breakfast for hotel guests was a little disappointing as we ate in the adjoining hostal that had a limited menu.

Amazing family hotel in the center of Mahon.
Everyone extremely helpful and kid, rooms are large and nicely equipped. We will come back when in Mahon again.

Lovely boutique hotel in the Center , private hotel with limited service but gives you the peace and quiet you need. Bathroom are so awesome they should have more amenities and more towels
Essential Tips for Choosing Your Hotel Near Mahón Harbour
Selecting the right hotel requires a bit more thought here than in other parts of Menorca due to the unique topography of the port. The distance between the "old town" and the "port" is short on a map but involves a significant change in elevation. The following tips will help you navigate the local landscape, understand the logistics of getting around, and ensure your expectations match the reality of your chosen accommodation.
Understand the Cliff Divide
Mahón is essentially split into two levels: the historic center above and the harbor below. While many hotels advertise "harbor views," staying on the cliff top (in the old town) offers stunning panoramas but requires a walk down a steep slope or a short taxi ride to reach the restaurants on the water’s edge. Conversely, staying at the port level puts you right next to the boats but means a climb up to visit the main shopping streets and museums.
Check for Parking Availability
If you are renting a car to explore Menorca’s beaches, parking near the harbor is notoriously difficult. The quayside is largely pedestrianized and the old town features narrow, one-way streets. Always verify that your hotel offers private parking or valet service. If not, you may find yourself parking in a public lot several blocks away and hauling luggage over cobblestones.
Consider the Noise Factor
The harbor is a working port and a social hub. While the sound of water is soothing, the clinking of glasses and late-night music from bars can carry across the water until the early hours, especially in summer. If you are a light sleeper, look for hotels that advertise soundproofed windows or request a room facing away from the main promenade.
Look for Ferry Proximity (If Needed)
If your itinerary includes an early morning ferry to Mallorca or Barcelona, staying at the lower port level is a massive advantage. You can simply walk to the terminal in minutes rather than navigating the winding road down from the old town with your suitcases. Check the exact location of the hotel relative to the Estación Marítima before booking.
Don’t Overlook the Boutique Options
While Menorca has its share of large chain hotels, the true charm of Mahón lies in its boutique and family-run establishments. Many are housed in historic buildings with original features like exposed stone walls and interior courtyards. These often provide a more personalized service and a stronger sense of place than their larger counterparts, often at a similar or better price point.
Choosing a hotel near Mahón Harbour places you at the crossroads of Menorcan culture. It is a decision that favors the traveler who appreciates urban energy alongside island relaxation. The convenience of stepping out for a morning coffee by the water or an evening stroll past the illuminated boats is unmatched.
By selecting a property that aligns with your physical mobility needs and your desire for either nightlife or tranquility, you ensure a seamless visit. Take the time to review the specific amenities of the hotels listed above, and you are certain to find a harbor-side retreat that feels like a home away from home.
