12 Best Hotels Near El Sardinero Beach

A trip to the northern Spanish city of Santander offers a rare blend of urban sophistication and wild Atlantic beauty. While the city center boasts incredible pintxos bars and cultural landmarks, the true heartbeat of the region lies along its coastline. For travelers planning a maritime escape, the area surrounding the iconic El Sardinero Beach is the undisputed epicenter of leisure, luxury, and local life. It is a place where the elegance of the Belle Époque era meets the relaxed rhythm of modern Spanish beach culture.

Choosing the right base is essential to enjoying everything this stunning stretch of the Cantabrian Sea has to offer. Whether you are seeking a romantic getaway, a family vacation, or a solo surf retreat, the neighborhoods hugging the bay provide distinct atmospheres and amenities. From grand historic hotels that have hosted royalty to modern boutique apartments with sea views, the options are as varied as the tides themselves.

Staying near El Sardinero means more than just having a short walk to the sand. It places you directly within the city’s most vibrant leisure district, surrounded by high-end dining, the historic Gran Casino, and the lush gardens of the Magdalena Peninsula. You will wake up to the sound of waves and enjoy the unique privilege of an evening paseo along the promenade as the sun dips below the horizon.

The area is divided into two main sections: the first beach (Primera Playa) and the second beach (Segunda Playa). The first tends to be livelier, with a bustling promenade and easy access to the city center, while the second offers a slightly more relaxed vibe, backed by prestigious residential streets. Your choice of hotel location will shape the rhythm of your daily routine, from morning coffee spots to sunset viewing points.

Given the popularity of this destination, accommodation quality can vary significantly. It is crucial to look for properties that offer not just proximity, but also comfort, soundproofing, and modern conveniences. The best hotels here understand that guests come to unwind; they provide spaces that serve as a sanctuary after a long day of sunbathing, swimming, or exploring the coastal paths.

To help you navigate the selection process, we have curated a list of the finest accommodations within walking distance of the golden sand. We had a very good stay at Gran Hotel Sardinero. The location is excellent, just a short walk from the beach, making it a great choice for anyone wanting to enjoy the ocean. The hotel was comfortable and clean. The breakfast was quite simple, with a limited but adequate to start the day. Overall, it's a great hotel with an unbeatable location, and I would happily stay here again.

Pros: - Great location, just a short walk from the beach. - Spacious and comfortable two-bedroom rooms. Cons: - The breakfast was disappointing, with a very limited selection. It felt like it was only enough to fill you up rather than offer a satisfying or enjoyable meal.

The hotel itself is beautiful at a very nice location but all around the hotel incl. The hotel itself the constructions were very annoying 😤😤😤. Everywhere noise inside and outside... I guess they re preparing for the upcoming season but I could not enjoy my stay very much... Anyhow 4 stars.
Steven Goldingay★★★★★
Modern and comfortable. Great location. Did not eat in the hotel, but there are many nice places to eat in the surrounding area.
Richard Brown★★★★★
Wow! Superb up market accommodation in a stunning hotel/room on the sea front. Views from our window on a sunny day were fantastic. Huge room with masses of storage, extremely comfortable beds and a very big bathroom with quite the most powerful shower you could want. The standards of fit and finish in the rooms are of the highest quality. What you get for the price is amazing. This would cost twice as much in the UK. Had breakfast and again the quality & presentation of food was tremendous. I know this is a superlative heavy review, but it is justified. (Oh, I forgot the car lift into the car park. Genuine 'laugh out loud' moment).

Really great location at the end of El Sardinero beach. Easy access to the promenade and beach. Customer service was excellent. The hotel team were always very helpful, particularly Jeimy at reception who helped up with restaurant bookings. The room was on the small side but accommodated us fine. The big bonus was the Panorama restaurant providing great food and drink with good service. Thanks for a great break in Santander.

I had a fantastic stay at Hotel Chiqui in Santander, and what truly made the experience exceptional was the outstanding service at the front desk. Héctor and Christina went above and beyond to make me feel welcome from the very first moment. They were not only professional and efficient, but also genuinely warm and attentive. Whether it was offering local recommendations, helping with arrangements, or simply greeting guests with a smile, they made a lasting impression. Their attention to detail and willingness to help with anything—big or small—really elevated the entire stay. It’s rare to come across such dedicated hospitality, and they are a true credit to the hotel. Thanks to them, my visit to Santander was even more enjoyable. I would absolutely return and highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a comfortable stay with exceptional service.
Diana Herrmann★★★★☆
Lovely room with fantastic ocean views and terrace. Weird little stopper coming out of the floor just in front of the toilet that I kept stepping on. Jeimy at front desk was super helpful. It would have been nice to have some fresh veggies, sliced tomatoes or lettuce salad with breakfast as well
Lisa BMA★★★★★
Beautiful location on beach in Santander. We were fortunate to have a room with terrace overlooking the Infiniti pool and beaches. So. Worth. It. Clean rooms, reliable wifi, nice breakfast with option to eat outside. Must ask for gluten free at breakfast if needed. Helpful front desk at check in and when taxi needed. Ismael was very helpful at check it and made us feel at home. Note parking is in short supply - reserve ahead of you can, only 20 spaces. Share all other parking spots with other hotel guests, beach goers, and fisherman. Again, worth it!
Anastasia Boardman★★★★★
A beautiful hotel in a fabulous location! Ismael, Cristina and Jeimy were so helpful from check in until check out. The rooms were spacious and had a beautiful view of the ocean, a stunning place to wake up each morning. We had the breakfast where there were more than enough options and friendly staff. The hotel is very peaceful and I would definitely recommend!

We booked due to the excellent location. Views over the beach. Plus excellent walking and public transport. Nearby restaurants. The staff welcome was friendly. It was clean and comfortable. But it’s not a child friendly hotel. We’d paid another full adult price to make our room three person occupancy, so our son had a bed. But on arrival there was no third bed. They quickly rectified that, but that made the room very tight. The website and information available for guests requires improvement. A hotel of this rating shouldn’t require its guests to have to work out the arrangements. We would recommend the breakfast buffet and excellent public transport and paths along the seafront. We didn’t try the restaurant as on arrival to ask about whether there was a menu infanta the waiter walked right past me. Then seemed annoyed when I picked up a menu whilst I waited for him to decide if he wanted to help.

The best thing about this hotel is the location! Right beside the beach. While hotel says car parking is free trying to find a spot close to the hotel is not easy and we had to park a good bit away from hotel. We stayed for 4 nights. Hotel rooms are too small. We didn’t have a sea view and one morning grass cutting took place at 8am right below our window! Air conditioning not very effective Lowest temperature setting was 19degrees. Very little storage space for clothes and had to leave clothes in suitcase Room was clean and bathroom facilities clean and adequate Room service daily was very good Breakfast was good and room very bright and staff lovely. Hotel cafe had lovely food.

We stayed at Dorma for one night. The place was fairly clean but rather small. However, the worst part was the attitude of the breakfast staff. Since it was the last day of our group trip, everyone was saying our goodbyes, which may have briefly blocked the passage. But one breakfast waitress (a short-haired lady) had a very bad attitude—she looked angry and was quite rude. When I greeted her, she remained expressionless, which made us feel very uncomfortable. This is not the kind of attitude expected from service staff and is unacceptable. In addition, the hotel’s air conditioning system was out of order, and we were not informed in advance. When we asked at the front desk, the staff told us to open the window, but unfortunately it was still very hot at night, and we slept poorly. Although we were not very satisfied with the stay, there were still some positive aspects worth mentioning. The front desk staff during check-in had a very good attitude, especially a long-haired female staff member (unfortunately I don’t know her name). She welcomed us with fruit and snacks, along with a warm smile. This was a highlight of our stay and deserves recognition.

Poor value for money. I would not recommend it or return. The sea view is attractive, but there are better hotels slightly away from the promenade. A short walk might be worthwhile. Finding parking might be challenging. Room 509

The place is great! The people are nice..the room with a view is really pretty. The beds, however, are two twins and do separate while you're sleeping..not so good, unless you fighting with your girlfriend 😂

You may be paying for a standard room anywhere from 150-250€ for this 4 stars hotel as I did. As they cater to groups at one of the two attractive locations in the city (still secondary as it is away from the centre) they can be as disrespectful as they want and not give you nothing in the room in the forms of amenities. And they give you fake and lowest of lowest coffee capsules in paper cups.. Not even the minibar is full. It is so empty and so barren it is highway robbery. I extended my stay for two more days, but booked at another hotel and breathed deep when i left. And you know what? I have told this to the staff, at least three of them. All i got is shoulder shake. That’s how it is. Ans they have an wifi connection interface that doesn’t work; and they don’t even tell you that.. it is ok that you spend half an hour trying to connect. And the trash basket? It can stay right in the middle of the bathroom for two days. No problem!! And what is it with fleuorescent lighting in the pavilion at the entrance..? A joke?

Newly renovated and modern rooms, spacious and nice beach deco. It has a fridge. It’s a 5 minute walk from the ocean, it has restaurants near and a supermarket.

We spent 4 days at Hotel Santemar Santander. A very nice town, a good hotel, one single rainy day. The location is very close to the ocean side, breakfast is fantastic. I recommend.
Mila Pospisil★★★★☆
Great location, very close to a lovely beach, restaurants, cafes, shops. Wheelchair accessible room - shower very spacious, room not so much, 1 reclining bed and one single bed, couldn't get to a fridge & a window as there wasn't enough room between the beds and the table for a wheelchair. Very clean. Staff was ever so helpful, couldn't do enough for us. Restaurant - food was good, big portions. Our waiter was amazing. Gym was good with all necessary equipment. Be aware of the underground parking, it says max 1.9m but it's a bit lower. We would return.

Best location! So close to the beach and restaurants, with an amazing ocean view. We enjoyed the rooms; they were always kept clean and well maintained. The staff, in general, were polite and helpful. We wish there had been a small shop in the hotel lobby where guests could buy quality beach towels and other small necessities, as there was only one surf shop in this whole area with a very limited selection.
Nina Bokii★★★★★
We absolutely loved everything! The location is wonderful, and the staff was incredibly polite and always ready to help with any request. Everything was very comfortable, and the view from the terrace is simply beautiful. For my next visit to Santander, I won't be looking for a different hotel, despite my usual habit of staying at new ones.

преди 3 минути на Google We were at the hotel from May 27 to 30, we have never seen parties being held in a hotel outside right under the windows of the rooms, noisy parties lasting until after 12 midnight. Absolutely impossible for a person to sleep and rest. We couldn't sleep for two nights in a row. We complained at the reception and they said that nothing could be done. I do not recommend the hotel, this is a violation of people's peace and rest

We recently celebrated our wedding day at the Gran Hotel Victoria, and we couldn't have asked for a more perfect experience. ❤️ From the beautiful ceremony that the team set up, to the delicious dinner and the truly unforgettable party, everything went perfectly smoothly. The staff made us and our guests feel welcome and cared for — their attention to detail, professionalism, and genuine warmth truly made the day magical. We would like to sincerely thank the entire team for helping us create memories that will last a lifetime. Beautiful building and great location, the hotel is across the road from Playa del Sadinero. The bed was super comfy, we slept very well on both nights. There was plenty of savoury and sweet options for breakfast. It's 1.3miles from the centre which made a lovely walk every day along the coast, or in the evenings you can grab an Uber to the hotel for €5 which takes less than 10 minutes. The service was very good, we had a lovely chat with Jesus, the owner who was very welcoming at breakfast. We would stay here again! Bear in mind when you stay this is an old building with lots of character which we really like, but we're glad we brought ear plugs.
Barbara Grillo★★★★★
We loved it! The property has a lot of personality, with all those paintings and the carefully crafted antique-style furnishings, like a museum. It's a original hotel that you may or may not like if you're not a fan of small spaces. The double room was small but intimate, with an upper floor connected by a spiral staircase that houses two single beds and a very pleasant sitting area. The bathroom is compact, suitable for us short people. The breakfast was rich and tasty, including scrambled eggs. The price was worth the overnight stay. You can sleep well with the sound of the waves in the background. It's a great place to relax and have a vacation. There's parking on all the surrounding streets. The hotel has a sea view, surrounded by elegant apartment buildings. The entire staff was welcoming. Thank you, and I would come here again! It was truly rewarding!

Such a beautiful hotel in a great location for exploring Santander. Very close to the airport as well, around 15 minutes drive I think. Our room 202 was lovely with a little Juliette balcony. On the small side but that wasn't a problem. There was a kettle provided No hairdryer Breakfast available. We had the buffet all you can eat for 10 euros, plenty to choose from I'd definitely stay again!

You know those moments when you lie awake wondering how to explain in your Google review..? The decor is certainly nice and that’s why you book, but it isn’t backed up by anything. The staff is there, but not warm, interested or welcoming. That’s the main problem. A welcome drink mentioned, but not offered. I walked 40k to get there, but no interest shown. Just pointed to my mini room. Then there are flash lights outside of the room till 10pm so it’s super bright in the room, the heating cannot be turned off, the chatter of the receptionist right outside your door, loads of mosquitoes but no nets or warning not to open the windows, and the mattress is completely worn with the form of all people who came before you…that’s my opinion at 4.30am with fresh blood stains on my hands from finally hitting the mosquitoes 🦟😒
Lorenzo Fedon★★★★☆
Great location and beautifully decorated, some pieces of furniture are not so good especially the kettle which was half broken and I had to place it on the ground to make it work because its cable couldn’t reach the socket from the service table, also the lack of a small fridge is a bit problematic especially in the summer and all the plants at the windows were fake, but friendly staff, good cleaning service, slightly small room (but still good for few days) very romantic and memorable, nice outdoor space, we will definitely come back

We loved our one night stay at the Rhin Garden Hotel, Santander. It’s an adult-only boutique hotel of just 26 rooms and is less than 2 years old. Our room had lovely modern decor, a very comfortable super-king bed (180cm), high-tec lighting and AC with a control panel by the entry door. Due to rainy weather, we didn’t use the garden and heated swimming pool, however it looked a fabulous, relaxing space and the pool very inviting. They serve a quality breakfast - a large selection of fresh fruit, pastries and breads, delicious guacamole, smoked salmon, meats and cheeses. Great coffee and fresh orange juice - fantastic. There is a two bay drop-off/pick-up point outside the hotel, however the hotel has its own secure car park around a block away. Absolutely recommend this hotel when visiting Santander.
Audrey Hennessy★★★★★
I really liked this hotel. Our room was small but with a great view over the pool. Breakfast was very fresh and tasty , with hot food as an option. All the staff were very nice . A really nice touch was a small bottle of Rioja on arrival, the room was also presented with a bathrobe and slippers, toothbrush and tooth paste , comb and razor . The rooms had a number of usbc charging ports as well as regular usbc ports. Location was 2 mins from the fabulous beach and a 25 min walk along the coast to centre of Santander . Great location and a very impressive boutique hotel.

I almost want to gatekeep this place, but I had the most perfect stay in Santander at the Rhin Garden Hotel. The hotel, rooms, and grounds are immaculate and absolutely beautiful. I stayed in a terrace room, which I loved — the beds were incredibly comfortable, the shower was excellent, and all the thoughtful extras made my stay feel so luxurious. The Rituals products in the bathroom were such a lovely touch, and I slept like a baby. The interiors are modern, stylish, and beautifully designed. Breakfast was fresh, beautifully presented, and had everything you could want, all served perfectly. The restaurant food and wine selection were also exceptional. My stay was made even more special by Narmin, who was so friendly, attentive, and professional throughout. I also didn’t catch the name of the blonde lady who checked me in, but she went above and beyond for me as well. A short bus ride from downtown, in the heart of Sardinero beach area. I will definitely be back on my next trip to Santander.

What a wonderful hotel! Everything about it was well thought out and guest orientated. The design of the entire hotel is sleek and stunning. The rooms were stylish, high tech and fantastic toiletries, robes etc provided for guests. The pool area was just beautiful. Staff are friendly and speak multiple languages. Unfortunately we had to leave early in the morning for our flight and couldn’t have breakfast but staff very kindly provided us with an amazing packed breakfast to take away. They couldn’t have taken care of us any more. My only regret is we didn’t stay longer. Until next time! Thank you
Angelika V.★★★★★
My husband and I stayed at the hotel for about a week. It was amazing! The hotel has a very charming decor and a cozy atmosphere. The outdoor pool area is small but because of the surrounding trees and plants it felt very private and relaxing. The room was very comfortable and the bathroom had sensor lights, which made it feel very high-tec and modern. We particularly enjoyed the breakfast area and how the breakfast was managed. I would like to separately highlight how welcoming, helpful, and attentive all of the people who manage the hotel are. The service deserves praise. Thank you Rhin Garden for a lovely experience! ❤️

Spacious & comfortable rooms Welcoming staff on reception Very easy access to the North Sardinero beach Bland decoration in some of the communal areas but that did not detract from our overall satisfaction

Overrated and smelly - not a 4 star hotel. Bad: Very bad odor - stench coming from sewage coming from bathroom. We changed the room and the second had the same bad odor. Ventilation in the bathroom was either missing or broken. Water pressure at the sink was barely there. You spent time just to wash your face. Garage parking was expensive 16 EUR/day. Outside parking was very narrow for the safety of a rental car. Breakfast was lacking variety Good: Big rooms, good location, dinner in the half board was very good.
Plain John Smith DL1★★★★☆
Stayed here for one night prior to getting the ferry back to the UK. From the outside the hotel looks like a concrete monstrosity built in the 1960's or 1970's. However, it is totally different on the inside, being very spacious and modern, especially the rooms. Reasonably quick and friendly check in. Large and secure underground parking is available for €15 a night, however I was advised by a local lady that there was free on street parking all around the area of the hotel. Modern room with a large comfortable double bed and a walk in shower and also a small balcony area. A TV, fridge and a safe were also in the room. The area around the hotel is largely residential buildings. A short walk away is a seafront beach area which was very scenic and popular with locals. This is a great location to get a drink or a meal. Literally across the road from the hotel is the home ground of Real Racing Club Santander,  so it will be pretty busy in the immediate area on match days. All in all I would be happy to stay here again.

Lovely quirky rooms, even the ones without harbour views, which I didn't request, but very comfortable and faultless attentive service. For the harbour and sea views you can always pop out to the pavement seating for a vino. Great team supporting check-in and intros to the city. Can't fault it so far!

Another stay with Vincci, they continue to exceed my expectations. The staff are outstanding - friendly, helpful, and genuinely welcoming. Special thanks to Julián (Reception), Tino (Breakfast), the lobby bar team (Patricia), and Inma (Housekeeping). The breakfast is delicious and well worth it, with great attention to detail. The location is perfect, with buses right outside to Magdalena and El Sardinero, plus plenty of great restaurants, cafés, the waterfront, and the amazing pistachio gelato at Via Mazzini nearby. I'll be back. Vincci is my hotel brand of choice.
Jagdeep Wadhwani★★★★☆
No frills. waterfront hotel. If you are planning to drive in, they do not keep adequate space in their loading zone which is difficult because they are on a very busy road and right next to a bus stop. The hotel needs to investigate why the loading zone has cars parked there on a permanent basis. Leaving a small space for guests is highly inconvenient and not a welcoming experience.
Marcell Balint Magyar★★★★☆
I stayed here one night to visit a friend and run the half marathon. The location of the hotel was the differentiating factor in being so close to the harbor and the start of the race. However, I wouldn’t the hotel was particularly well taken care of. The bathroom had clear signs of water damage, moldy smell, and I got a tiny room with no view. For a quick stay it was ok and I’m sure they have better rooms.

Not only was it clean, cosy and extremely comfortable, the people were very friendly and cooperative. The room we had was a studio apartment with kitchen, a refrigerator and a microwave which made our stay very pleasant and comfortable. Moreover, the hotel is located perfectly close to the beach. The breakfast was wholesome and fresh. Totally loved the stay. Would highly recommend.

Located 2 minutes walk from the beach and a 35 minute walk to the center of Santander. The room/apartment that I stayed in had a good sized family lounge, kitchen with hotplates, fridge and microwave. I found the bed to be very comfortable. Staying at Suite Home Pinares is like living within a piece of Santander's history. This beautiful 19th-century palace has been restored with exquisite taste, preserving period decor that transports you to the past without sacrificing 21st-century comforts (elevator included). What makes the stay truly unforgettable is the location, right in front of El Parque de los Pinares, which guarantees absolute tranquility and makes this the perfect place to disconnect, all while remaining close to Sardinero Beach. The decor is curated to the last detail, featuring classic furniture and photographs that take us back in time, alongside modern and cozy rooms. Additionally, having on-site outdoor parking is a true luxury in this part of the city. The service is friendly and attentive, with a simple yet varied breakfast, much like its 'sibling accommodation' (see my Suite Home Sardinero review), but served in a dining room that exudes elegance.

Very handy located close to the city center but in a quiet neighbourhood of Santander, close to the beach and a lovely walk to the center and other main attractions. There is a paid safe parking on site which really helps when coming with a car. The staff was very friendly and gave us great tips to where to eat in the city, things to do and see while the check-in process was also very quick and easy. The breakfast was plentiful and efficient when going out early to explore. The room was quiet even though facing the street, with good space, comfortable bed and linen, cute decoration and a spacious bathroom. Overall very good quality at an affordable price. Really enjoyed our stay and would come back.

Good points : good location, parking spaces available somewhat close to the hotel Bad points : Wi-Fi not working at all, rooms are very small and not easy to get around, rooms are not very clean (I would average but on the low side), beds are very uncomfortable (spring-loaded and not homogeneous at all, sheets are not soft), halls and rooms smell weird (like a mixture of fragrances and fish). Halls are definitely the most dirty and smelly part of the hotel. I would not recommend staying here, even if the price is fairly low off-season.

Overall for solo traveler it's a good place in affordable prices. Enjoyed a pleasant stay, with friendly staff, cozy rooms, and a convenient location for city exploration. Recommended for a affordable visit.

Hosteria Santander (et non pas Santander) is a nice place to be. The rooms are very well insulated, cleaning is perfect. Facilities are limited. Take care when you make your reservation because prices are not so different from Hotel Rio Santander who's next and who is rated 4 stars while Hosteria Santander is rating 2 stars plus. I think that comparatively breakfast could be included.

Great location and friendly staff. Wifi is good. The only negative was that the bathroom had a terrible smell.

Essential Tips for Booking Your Stay

To ensure your trip to El Sardinero is flawless, it is wise to plan ahead and understand the local nuances. The popularity of this beach means that the best rooms with sea views are often reserved months in advance, particularly during the summer season. By keeping a few key strategies in mind, you can secure the perfect room at the best possible rate while avoiding common travel pitfalls.

  • Book Early for Summer Festivals: Santander hosts major events like the Baños de Ola and the Semana Grande festival in July. If your dates coincide with these, availability drops rapidly and prices soar; booking four to six months in advance is highly recommended.
  • Prioritize Soundproofing: The promenade is lively, especially on weekends. If you are a light sleeper, request a room facing the interior courtyard or one that specifically advertises double-glazed windows to ensure a peaceful night’s sleep.
  • Consider Parking Logistics: Parking near the beach can be notoriously difficult and expensive during peak season. Always verify that your chosen hotel offers private parking or a discounted rate at a nearby public garage before you arrive.
  • Understand the Microclimates: The weather in Santander can change quickly. Even in summer, mornings can be misty. Choosing a hotel with a spa, indoor pool, or a comfortable lounge area is a smart investment for those occasional rainy Atlantic days.
  • Explore the Second Beach for Families: If you are traveling with children, hotels near the Segunda Playa often provide a slightly quieter atmosphere. The sand there is expansive, and the area feels less crowded than the first beach, offering a more relaxed environment for little ones.

The magic of Santander is not just in its sights, but in the feeling of the sea breeze and the warmth of its people. Staying near El Sardinero allows you to immerse yourself in this coastal lifestyle without the need for a car or public transport. You can spend your days surfing, sunbathing, and eating fresh seafood, all within a stone’s throw of your room.

As you plan your journey to this jewel of the Cantabrian coast, remember that the right hotel is the foundation of a great trip. Whether you choose a grand historic landmark or a sleek modern retreat, the proximity to the sand and surf will elevate your experience. You will leave with a deep appreciation for the Cantabrian Sea and the elegant city that guards its shores.
